²⁵ for once you were going astray like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of Your souls.

³⁶ When He saw the crowds, His heart was moved with pity for them, because they were tired and scattered like sheep without a shepherd.

¹² "What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hillsides, and go and search for the one that is lost?

⁴ "What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep, and if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and continue to look for the lost one until he finds it? ⁵ And when he finds it, with joy he puts it on his shoulders, ⁶ and when he reaches home he calls in his friends and neighbors, and says to them, 'Rejoice with me, because I have found my lost sheep!'

¹¹ I am the good shepherd myself. The good shepherd gives his own life for his sheep. ¹² The hired man, who is not a shepherd and does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away, and the wolf carries off some of the sheep and scatters the flock. ¹³ This is because he is a hired man and does not care a straw for the sheep. ¹⁴ I am the good shepherd myself. I know my sheep and my sheep know me, ¹⁵ just as the Father knows me and I know the Father, and I am giving my own life for my sheep. ¹⁶ I have other sheep too that do not belong to this fold. I must lead them too, and they will listen to my voice, and all my sheep will become one flock with one shepherd.

²⁸ Take care of yourselves and of the whole flock, of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, so as to continue to be shepherds of the church of God, which He bought with His own blood.

¹ Therefore, my Christian brothers, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the Messenger and High Priest whom we profess to follow,

²⁰ May God, who gives us peace, who brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, who through the blood by which He ratified the everlasting covenant, is now the Great Shepherd of the sheep,

⁴ and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the glorious crown that never fades.
