¹ In those days, as the number of the disciples was increasing, complaint was made by the Greek-speaking Jews against the native Jews that their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution of food.

¹³ "A curse on you, you hypocritical scribes and Pharisees! For you bolt the doors of the kingdom of heaven in men's faces, for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you let those who are trying to do so go in.

⁴¹ So they accepted his message and were baptized, and about three thousand persons united with them on that day.

⁴⁵ And so they continued to sell their property and goods and to distribute the money to all, as anyone had special need.

⁴⁷ constantly praising God and always having the favor of all the people. And every day the Lord continued to add to them the people who were being saved.

⁴ But many of those who heard their message believed, and the number of the men grew to about five thousand.

³⁵ and to put it at the disposal of the apostles; then distribution was continuously made to everyone in proportion to his need.

¹⁴ but still a vast number of people, both men and women, who believed in the Lord, continued to join them,

²⁸ "Did we not positively forbid you to teach anymore on this authority, and yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and now want to bring on us the people's vengeance for this man's death!"

⁷ So God's message continued to spread, and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem continued to grow rapidly; a large number, even of priests, continued to surrender to the faith.

²⁹ and he continued to speak courageously in the name of the Lord, and to speak and debate with the Greek-speaking Jews. But they kept trying to murder him.

³⁹ So Peter at once got up and went with them. When he reached there, they took him to the room upstairs, and all the widows took their stand around him, crying and showing him the shirts and coats that Dorcas had made while she was still with them.

⁴¹ He gave her his hand and lifted her to her feet, and calling in the Lord's people and the widows, he gave her back to them alive.

²⁰ But there were some of them, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, who on reaching Antioch began to speak to the Greeks too, and proceeded to tell them the good news about the Lord Jesus.

¹⁰ You must stop grumbling, as some of them did, and for it were destroyed by the destroying angel.

²² Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they descendants of Abraham? So am I.

⁵ circumcised when I was a week old; a descendant of Israel; a member of the tribe of Benjamin; a Hebrew, a son of Hebrews. Measured by the law, I was a Pharisee;

⁴ But if a widow has children or grandchildren, they must first learn to practice piety in the treatment of their own families, and to pay the debt they owe their parents or grandparents, for this is acceptable to God. ⁵ But a woman who is really a widow and lives alone has fixed her hope on God, and night and day devotes herself to prayers and entreaties,

⁹ No widow under sixty years of age should be put on this roll. A widow must have had but one husband,

¹ You must let your brotherly love continue.

²⁷ A religious worship that is pure and stainless in the sight of God the Father is this: To look after orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep one's own self unstained by the world.

⁵ Or, do you think that the Scripture means nothing when it says, "He jealously yearns for the Spirit that He causes to dwell in your hearts"?

⁹ Stop muttering against one another, brothers, so as to keep from being judged yourselves. Look! The Judge is standing at the very door.
