¹ Brothers, if anybody is caught in the very act of doing wrong, you who are spiritual, in the spirit of gentleness, must set him right; each of you continuing to think of yourself, for you may be tempted too.

¹³ Go, learn what this means, 'It is mercy and not sacrifice that I want.' It is not upright but sinful people that I have come to invite."

²⁹ Put on my yoke, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls,

¹² "What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hillsides, and go and search for the one that is lost? ¹³ And if he finds it, I solemnly say to you, he rejoices over it more than he does over the ninety-nine that did not get lost. ¹⁴ Just so it is not the will of my Father in heaven that a single one of these little ones be lost. ¹⁵ "Again, if your brother wrongs you, go and while alone with him show him the wrong. If he listens to you, you have won back your brother.

⁶⁹ Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard, and a waiting girl came up to him, and said, "You, too, were with Jesus the Galilean."

⁷⁵ Then Peter remembered Jesus' words, "Before a cock crows, you will disown me three times." And he went outside and wept bitterly.

⁴ "What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep, and if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and continue to look for the lost one until he finds it? ⁵ And when he finds it, with joy he puts it on his shoulders, ⁶ and when he reaches home he calls in his friends and neighbors, and says to them, 'Rejoice with me, because I have found my lost sheep!' ⁷ Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinful person who repents than over ninety-nine upright people who do not need any repentance.

²² But his father said to his slaves, 'Bring out at once a robe, yes, the finest one, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and shoes on his feet; ²³ take the fattening calf and kill it, and let us feast and celebrate, ²⁴ because this son of mine was dead and has come to life, was lost and has been found!' So they began to celebrate. ²⁵ "Now his elder son was in the field. So, on coming in, as he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. ²⁶ Then he called one of the servant-boys and asked him what this meant. ²⁷ He said to him, 'Your brother has come back, and your father has killed the fattening calf, because he has gotten him back safe and sound.' ²⁸ So he became angry and would not go into the house. Then his father came out and began to plead with him. ²⁹ But he answered his father, 'See! I have served you all these years and have never disobeyed a command of yours, but you have never given me even a kid, so that I could celebrate with my friends. ³⁰ But when this son of yours arrives, who has eaten up your property with immoral women, you have killed for him the fattening calf.' ³¹ Then he said to him, 'My child, you have been with me all the time, and all I have is yours. ³² But we just had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and has come to life, was lost and has been found.'"

⁶ For to be thinking the things suggested by the lower nature means death, but to be thinking the things suggested by the Spirit means life and peace.

¹ Make it your practice to receive into full Christian fellowship people who are overscrupulous, but not to criticize their views.

¹ It is the duty of us who are strong to bear with the weaknesses of those who are not strong, and not merely to please ourselves.

¹⁵ But the spiritual man appreciates everything, and yet he himself is not really appreciated by anybody.

¹ So I myself, brothers, could not deal with you as spiritual persons, but as creatures of human clay, as merely baby Christians.

²¹ Which do you prefer? My coming to you with a club, or in a gentle, loving spirit?

⁵ You husbands and wives must stop refusing each other what is due, unless you agree to do so just for awhile, so as to have plenty of time for prayer, and then to be together again, so as to keep Satan from tempting you because of your lack of self-control.

¹² So the man who thinks he stands securely must be on the lookout not to fall.

³⁷ If anyone claims to have the prophetic spirit, or any other spiritual gift, let him recognize that what I now am writing is the Lord's command.

⁷ so you must do the opposite, freely forgive and comfort him, to keep him from being overwhelmed by his excessive sadness.

¹ Now I appeal to you in person, by the gentleness and fairness of Christ, I, Paul, who am so "condescending when face to face with you, but so courageous toward you when far away!"

¹¹ Now when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. ¹² For before the coming of certain people from James, he was in the habit of eating with heathen Christians, but after they came, he began to draw back and hold aloof from them, because he was afraid of the circumcision party. ¹³ The rest of the Jewish Christians, too, joined him in this pretense so that even Barnabas was influenced to join them in their pretense.

²³ gentleness, self-control. There is no law against such things.

¹⁵ You must not regard him as an enemy but warn him as a brother.

²⁵ With gentleness he must correct his opponents, for God might grant them repentance that would lead them to a full knowledge of the truth,

¹³ and keep your feet in straight paths, so that limbs may not be dislocated, but instead be cured.

³ Continue to remember those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them, and those who are being ill-treated, since you, too, are liable to similar physical punishment.

² For we all make many a slip. If anyone never slips in speech, he is a man of maturity; he can control his whole body too.

¹³ Who among you is wise and intelligent? Let him show by his noble living that his good deeds are done in humility, which wisdom prompts.

¹⁹ My brothers, if any one of you has wandered away from the truth, and someone brings him back, ²⁰ you may be sure that whoever brings a sinner back from his evil ways will save the man's soul from death, and cover up a multitude of sins.

¹⁵ but in your hearts be consecrated to Christ as Lord, and always be ready to make your defense to anyone who asks a reason for the hope you have. But you must do it in gentleness and reverence,

¹⁶ If anyone sees his brother committing a sin that does not lead to death, he will ask and God will grant him life; yea, He will grant it to any who do not commit a sin that leads to death. There is a sin that leads to death; I do not say that one should pray for that.

²² Some people, who continue to waver through doubts, you must pity ²³ and save, snatching them out of the fire; and others you must pity with dread, loathing even the clothes that are soiled by their lower nature.
