⁷ He ought also to have an honorable testimony from those that are without, least he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

¹¹ And he said unto them, To you it is granted to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but unto them that are without all things are delivered in parables:

³ Wherefore, brethren, look out from among you seven men of good character, full of the holy Spirit, and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this matter:

²² And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a righteous man, and one that feareth God, and of a good character among all the nation of the Jews, hath been warned from God by an holy angel, to send for thee to his house, and to hear what thou shalt say.

¹² And one Ananias, a devout observer of the law, who had a good character from all the Jews that dwelt there,

¹² For what have I to do to judge those that are without? and do not ye judge those that are within?

³² Behave inoffensively both to the Jews, and to the Greeks, and to the church of God.

³ We give no offence in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed:

²¹ looking to things that are right not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

⁵ redeeming the time.

¹² as we gave you in charge, that ye may walk decently toward those that are without, and may have need of no one's assistance.

²² Abstain from all appearance of evil.

¹⁴ I would therefore have the younger widows marry, bear children, manage houshold affairs, and give no occasion to the adversary for reproach.

²⁴ The sins of some men are notorious, leading as it were to their condemnation; and some more artful they follow after. ²⁵ So also the good works of some are manifest; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.

⁹ But they, that will be rich, fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which plunge men into ruin and perdition.

²⁶ and they may awake out of the snare of the devil, who have been captivated by him to his will.

⁵ chaste, keepers at home, good, submissive to their husbands, that the word of God may not be evil spoken of.

⁸ that he who opposeth it may be ashamed, having no evil to say of you.

¹⁴ If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the Spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: and though as to them He is blasphemed, yet as to you He is glorified. ¹⁵ But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as a malefactor, or as an intermeddler with other people's affairs. ¹⁶ But if any suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God herein.

¹² A good testimony is borne to Demetrius by all men, and by the truth itself: yea, and we also bear him like witness, and ye know that our testimony is true.
