²³ Who, when he was come, and saw the grace of God, rejoiced, and exhorted them all with steadiness of heart to adhere to the Lord.

²⁴ Then said Jesus to his disciples, If any one is willing to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me:

⁵ And Jesus, seeing their faith, saith to him that had the palsy, Son, thy sins are forgiven thee.

³¹ Therefore said Jesus to the Jews that believed on Him, If ye continue in my word, ye are indeed my disciples. ³² And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

⁴ Abide therefore in me, and I will abide in you: for as the branch cannot bear fruit of it self, unless it abide in the vine; so neither can ye, except ye abide in me.

⁴³ And when the synagogue was broken up, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas; who addressing themselves to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.

²² confirming the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and telling them that through many afflictions we must enter into the kingdom of God.

²⁶ And from thence they sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God, for the work which they had now fulfilled.

²⁴ But none of these things move me, nor do I account my life dear, so that I may finish my course with joy, and the ministry which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

³² And now, my brethren, I recommend you to God, and to the word of his grace: who is able to edify you, and to give you an inheritance among all that are sanctified.

⁵⁸ Wherefore, my beloved brethren, be stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, since ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

¹⁷ Now when I intended this, was I chargeable with levity? or what I purpose, do I purpose from carnal motives, that with me there should be yea, yea, and then no, no?

⁶ which is come unto you, even as in all the world, and is fruitful; as it hath been also among you, from the day in which ye heard and knew the grace of God in truth.

³ Incessantly remembering your work of faith, and labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father: ⁴ knowing, beloved brethren, your election by God.

² and sent Timothy our brother, and a minister of God, and our fellow-labourer in the gospel of Christ, to establish and exhort you concerning your faith; ³ that no one might be shaken by these afflictions: for ye yourselves know that we are appointed hereunto. ⁴ For when we were with you, we told you before that we should be afflicted, as it came to pass, and ye know. ⁵ For this cause being able to wait no longer, I sent to know the state of your faith, least the tempter should have tempted you, and our labor have been in vain.

⁴ greatly desiring to see thee, (for I remember thy tears,) that I may be filled with joy: ⁵ keeping in memory the unfeigned faith, that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice: and I am persuaded that it dwells in thee also;

¹⁰ But thou art well acquainted with my doctrine, conduct, purpose, faith, long-suffering, charity, patience, persecutions,

¹⁹ Having therefore, brethren, free admission into the holy places by the blood of Jesus, ²⁰ the new and living way which He hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, ²¹ his flesh, and having a great high-priest over the house of God, ²² let us draw near with sincerity, in the full assurance of faith, having our hearts cleansed from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. ²³ Let us inflexibly retain the profession of our hope, ²⁴ (for He is faithful who hath promised) and let us observe each other to the incitement of love and good works: ²⁵ not forsaking our assemblies, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another; and so much the more as ye see the day approaching. ²⁶ For if we sin wilfully after having received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins;

³² But call to remembrance the former days, in which after being enlightened, ye sustained a great conflict of sufferings; ³³ partly, being made a public spectacle by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, as ye became associates of those who were so treated: ³⁴ for ye sympathized with me in my bonds, and ye took joyfully the plundering of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance. ³⁵ Cast not away therefore your couragious profession, which hath a great recompence of reward. ³⁶ For ye have need of patience, that having done the will of God ye may receive the promise. ³⁷ For yet a little while, and He, that is coming, will come, and will not delay: ³⁸ and the just shall live by faith, but if any draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. ³⁹ But we are not of those who withdraw to perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

⁴ by which are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises; that by these ye may become partakers of a divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. ⁵ And to this giving all diligence, add to your faith fortitude; ⁶ and to fortitude knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience piety; ⁷ and to piety brotherly affection; and to brotherly affection charity. ⁸ For if these be in you and abound, they will not suffer you to be idle, nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ But he, that hath not these, is blind, or short-sighted, having forgot his baptismal purification from his former sins.

¹⁷ Do ye therefore, beloved, as ye know these things before, take heed least being seduced together with them by the error of the wicked, ye should fall from your own stedfastness. ¹⁸ But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ: to Him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

²⁸ And now, little children, abide, I say, in Him; that, when He shall appear, we may have confidence, and may not be ashamed before Him at his coming.

⁴ And I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in the truth.
