²⁹ Let no corrupt word come out of your mouth; but what is good to useful edification, that it may benefit the hearers.

¹⁶ So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your father, who is in heaven.

³⁴ O race of vipers, how can ye speak good things, who are yourselves so wicked? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. ³⁵ A good man out of the good treasure of the heart produceth good things; and a wicked man out of the wicked treasure uttereth wicked things: ³⁶ but I tell you, that of every idle word, which men shall speak, they shall give an account in the day of judgement; for by thy words thou shalt be justified, ³⁷ and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

²² And they all bare witness to Him, and wondered at the gracefulness of the words, which proceeded from his mouth, and said, Is not this the son of Joseph?

¹³ Their throat is an open sepulchre: with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: ¹⁴ whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:

¹⁹ But in a public assembly I had rather speak five words to be understood, that I may instruct others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.

³² If, to speak as a man, I fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantage have I, if the dead rise not? Let us eat and drink, for to-morrow we die. --- ³³ Be not deceived, bad conversations corrupt good morals.

¹² to the edifying of the body of Christ:

¹⁶ from whom the whole body being fitly joined together and compacted by the aid of every joint, according to the operation proportioned to every part, maketh an increase to the edification of itself in love.

³ But fornication, and all uncleanness, or inordinate desire, let it not be even named among you; for so it becometh saints: ⁴ nor ribaldry, nor buffoonery, nor wanton jesting, which are not meet: but rather giving of thanks.

⁸ But now put away all these also, wrath, animosity, malice, calumny, and filthy discourse out of your mouth. ⁹ Lie not one to another, seeing ye have put off the old man with his evil practices;

¹⁶ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another by psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs, with gratitude singing in your hearts to the Lord. ¹⁷ And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to our God and Father by Him.

⁶ Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with discretion to know how ye ought to answer every one.

¹¹ Wherefore comfort one another, and edify each other, as indeed ye do.

² and if any offend not in word, he is a compleat man, able to manage also the whole body. ³ Behold we put bridles into the mouths of horses, that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body as we please. ⁴ Behold also the ships which are of so great bulk, and even when they are driven by hard winds, yet are turned about by a very small helm which way soever the pilot pleaseth. ⁵ So the tongue is a small part of the body, yet boasteth great things. Behold how much fuel a little fire kindleth! ⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our several parts, defiling the whole body, inflaming the course of nature, and is set on fire by hell. ⁷ For every kind of wild beasts, and birds, and reptiles, and fishes, is tamed and hath been tamed by mankind: ⁸ but the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

¹² having a good conversation among the Gentiles; that whereas they speak against you as evil-doers, they may glorify God in the day of their visitation, on account of the good works which they behold in you.

¹ Ye women likewise, be subject to your own husbands, that if any believe not the word, they may yet without the word be gained over by the deportment of the wives,

¹⁸ For when they speak swelling words of vanity, they ensnare in the lusts of the flesh, through their lasciviousness, those who had indeed withdrawn from such as deal in error;

¹³ wandering stars, for whom blackness of darkness is reserved for ever. ¹⁴ And Enoch the seventh from Adam prophesied against these, saying, Behold the Lord cometh with his holy myriads, ¹⁵ to pass judgement upon all, and to convict all the ungodly among them of all their wicked works, which they have impiously committed, and of all the hard things which impious sinners have spoken against Him. ¹⁶ These are murmurers, complainers, who walk according to their own irregular desires; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, with admiration of certain persons for some advantage of their own.

⁵ And there was given him a mouth speaking great and blasphemous things, and power was given him to make war forty two months. ⁶ And he opened his mouth in blasphemies against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and those that dwell in heaven.
