²⁰ Verily I tell you, that ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

⁴ Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted.

³⁸ But when the husbandmen saw the Son, they said among themselves, This is the heir, come, let us kill him, and seize on his inheritance:

³⁹ And they that passed by reviled Him, shaking their heads, ⁴⁰ and saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it again in three days, save thyself: if thou art the Son of God, come down from the cross. ⁴¹ And in like manner the chief priests also insulting Him, with the scribes and elders, ⁴² said, He saved others, himself He cannot save: if He be the king of Israel, let Him come down now from the cross, and we will believe Him: ⁴³ He trusted in God, let Him deliver Him now, if He will own Him; for He said, I am the Son of God. ⁴⁴ And one of the thieves also, that were crucified with Him, cast the same reproach upon Him.

⁶² Now the next day after the preparation, the chief priests and pharisees went together to Pilate, saying, Sir, we remember that this impostor, ⁶³ when He was alive, said, After three days I will rise again: ⁶⁴ order therefore the sepulchre to be secured till the third day, least his disciples should come and steal Him away, and tell the people, He is risen from the dead: and so the last error will be worse than the first. ⁶⁵ But Pilate said to them, Ye have a guard of your own, go and make it as secure as ye will. ⁶⁶ So they went and made the sepulchre safe, sealing the stone, and setting a guard to watch it.

⁷² Then Peter called to mind the word which Jesus had said to him, Before the cock crow twice thou wilt deny me thrice. And he covered his face and wept.

²⁹ And they that passed by reviled Him, shaking their heads and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest, the temple, ³⁰ and buildest it in three days, save thyself and come down from the cross. ³¹ And the chief priests likewise scoffing at Him among themselves, with the scribes, said, He saved others, Himself He cannot save: let Christ, ³² the king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe in Him. And even they that were crucified with Him, reviled Him.

¹⁰ and she went and told those that used to be with Him, who were mourning and weeping;

²¹ Blessed are ye that hunger now; for ye shall be satisfied. Blessed are ye that weep now; for ye shall laugh.

⁴⁵ And when He rose up from prayer, He came to his disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow;

⁶² And Peter went out and wept bitterly.

²⁷ And there followed Him a great multitude of people, and of women, who also bewailed and lamented Him: but Jesus turning to them said,

⁴⁷ And when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this man was righteous. ⁴⁸ And all the multitudes that came together to this affecting sight, seeing what happened, smote on their breasts and returned. ⁴⁹ And all his acquaintance stood at a distance, and the women that followed Him from Galilee, beholding these things.

¹⁷ And He said unto them, What subjects are these, which ye are discoursing of to one another as ye walk, and why are ye sorrowful?

²¹ But we hoped that it was He that would have delivered Israel: and besides all this, to-day is the third day since these things were done.

⁶ sorrow hath filled your heart.

³³ These things have I spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have trouble: but be of good courage, I have overcome the world.

²⁵ Now there stood near the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleopas, and Mary Magdalene. ²⁶ Jesus therefore seeing his mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, saith to his mother, Woman, behold thy son: ²⁷ and then saith to the disciple, Behold thy mother. And from that hour the same disciple took her to his own home.

²⁰ And when He had said this, He shewed them his hands and his side. The disciples therefore rejoiced when they saw the Lord.

⁴⁶ And continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they partook of their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, ⁴⁷ praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

⁴¹ And they departed from the presence of the council rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer disgrace for his name.

² through whom also we have admission by faith into this grace in which we stand, and boast in hope of the glory of God. ³ And not only so, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation worketh patience,

¹¹ And not only so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received reconciliation.

¹⁰ as sorrowing, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing all things.

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering,

⁶ And ye became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word tho' in much affliction, yet with joy of the holy Ghost.

¹⁶ And may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and our God and Father, who hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation, and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts, ¹⁷ and establish you in every good word and work.

² Account it all joy, my brethren, when ye fall into various trials:

⁶ In which ye rejoice, tho' now for a little while, if need be, ye are grieved through various trials. ⁷ That the proof of your faith, which is much more precious than of gold, (that perisheth, though tried by fire) may be found unto praise, and honor, and glory, when Jesus Christ shall be revealed: ⁸ whom having not seen ye love; in whom, though now ye see Him not, yet believing ye rejoice with joy ineffable and full of glory; receiving the end of your faith,

²⁴ Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy:

¹⁴ And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they who come out of great affliction, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. ¹⁵ Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in his temple: and He that sitteth upon the throne shall dwell among them. ¹⁶ They shall hunger no more, nor thirst any more, nor shall the sun nor any violent heat fall upon them. ¹⁷ For the Lamb, that is in the midst of the throne, shall feed them, and shall lead them to fountains of living waters: and God will wipe off every tear from their eyes.

¹⁰ And those that dwell upon the earth shall triumph over them, and be merry, and send presents to one another: because these two prophets had tormented those that dwelt on the earth.

⁷ As much as she hath glorified herself and indulged to luxury, so much torment and sorrow give her; because she saith in her heart, I sit as a queen, I am not a widow, and I shall see no sorrow.
