¹ And Jesus resuming his discourse spake unto them again in parables, ² saying, The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king, who made a wedding-feast for his son; ³ and sent his servants to call those that were invited to the wedding: and they would not come. ⁴ Then he sent other servants, saying, Tell them that are invited, I have prepared my dinner, my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready; come to the wedding. ⁵ But they slighted him, and went away, one to his field and another to his merchandize: ⁶ and others seized his servants, and shamefully abused them, and slew them. ⁷ And when the king heard of it, he was highly provoked, and sent his troops, and destroyed those murderers, and burnt their city. ⁸ Then saith he to his servants, The feast is ready, but they that were invited were not worthy of it: ⁹ go therefore into the public streets, and as many as ye meet with invite to the wedding. ¹⁰ And those servants went out into the high-ways, and brought in all they met with, both bad and good: and the wedding was filled with guests. ¹¹ But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man that had not put on a wedding-garment, and saith to him, ¹² Friend, how camest thou in here without a wedding-garment? and he was struck speechless. ¹³ Then said the king to his attendants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him up, and throw him out into the darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of the teeth: ¹⁴ for there are many called, but few approved. ¹⁵ Then the pharisees went and consulted how they might insnare Him in his discourse. ¹⁶ And they send to Him their disciples along with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art a man of truth, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest for any man; for thou regardest not the person of men: Tell us therefore what thou thinkest, ¹⁷ Is it lawful to give tribute to Cesar, or not? ¹⁸ But Jesus knew their malice, and said, Why do ye tempt me, ye hypocrites? ¹⁹ Shew me the tribute-money. And they brought Him a Roman Penny. ²⁰ And He saith unto them, Whose image and inscription is this? ²¹ They answered, Cesar's. Then saith He unto them, Render therefore to Cesar the things that are Cesar's; and to God the things that are God's. ²² And when they heard this, they marvelled, and left Him and went away. ²³ On the same day came the sadducees to Him, who say there is no resurrection, ²⁴ and asked Him, saying, Master, Moses said, If any man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up seed unto his brother. ²⁵ Now there were with us seven brothers, and the first married and died, and having no issue left his wife to his brother; ²⁶ likewise the second also, and the third, even to seven; ²⁷ and last of all the woman died also; ²⁸ therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her. ²⁹ But Jesus answered them, Ye are mistaken, not knowing the scriptures nor the power of God: ³⁰ for in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels of God in heaven. ³¹ But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read what is spoken to you by God, ³² saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. ³³ And when the people heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine. ³⁴ But when the pharisees heard that He had silenced the sadducees, ³⁵ they gathered together again, and one of them, an interpreter of the law, propounded a question, to try Him, ³⁶ and said, Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law? ³⁷ And Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind: this is the first and great command. ³⁸ And the second is like it, ³⁹ Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. ⁴⁰ On these two precepts depend all the law and the prophets. ⁴¹ Now while the pharisees were thus gathered together, Jesus asked them, ⁴² saying, What think ye of the Messiah? whose son is He? They say unto Him, David's. ⁴³ He saith unto them, How then does David by inspiration call Him Lord, ⁴⁴ saying, The Lord said unto my Lord, "Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?" ⁴⁵ therefore if David call Him Lord, how is He his son? ⁴⁶ And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor did any dare, from that day, to ask Him any more such questions.

¹⁵ And Jesus said unto them, Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn, while the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then they will fast. ¹⁶ As no one putteth a piece of new cloth to an old garment; for its new patch teareth away from the old garment, and the rent is made worse: ¹⁷ nor do they put new wine into old vessels; otherwise, the casks burst, and the wine is spilt, and the vessels are destroyed: but they put new wine into new vessels, and both are preserved.

⁴³ Now when an impure spirit is gone out of a man, he wanders through dry desert places, seeking rest, and findeth none: ⁴⁴ then saith he, I will return into my house, that I came out of; and when he cometh, he findeth it empty, swept, and set off to advantage: ⁴⁵ then he goeth and taketh with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there; and so the last state of that man is worse than the first. And thus shall it be to this wicked generation.

³ saying, "Behold a sower went out to sow; ⁴ and as he was sowing, some seeds fell by the way-side, and the birds came and ate them up: ⁵ some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth; and they soon sprung up indeed, because they had no depth of earth; ⁶ but when the sun rose, they were burnt up, and withered; because they had no root: ⁷ and others fell among thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked them: ⁸ but others fell on good ground, and yielded fruit, some an hundred-fold, some sixty, and some thirty. ⁹ He that hath ears to hear, let him hear." ¹⁰ And the disciples came to Him and said, Why dost thou speak to them in parables? ¹¹ And He answered them, saying, Because it is granted unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not granted:

¹ For the gospel-kingdom is like the master of a family, who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard: ² and agreeing with the men for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard: ³ and going out about the third hour he saw others standing in the market-place doing nothing, ⁴ and said to them, Go ye also into the vineyard, and what is reasonable I will give you: so they went. ⁵ And going out again about the sixth and ninth hour he did in like manner. ⁶ And going out about the eleventh hour, he found others standing without work, and saith to them, Why stand ye here all the day doing nothing? ⁷ They say unto him, because no one hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatever is reasonable ye shall receive. ⁸ Now when evening was come, the owner of the vineyard saith to his steward, Call the work-men and pay them their hire, beginning from the last even to the first. ⁹ And when those came who were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every one a penny: ¹⁰ but when the first came, they thought that they should receive more; and they also received every one a penny. ¹¹ And after they had received it they murmured against the master of the house, ¹² saying, These last have worked but one hour, and thou hast made them equal to us, who have borne the burthen and heat of the day. ¹³ But he answered, and said to one of them, Friend, I do thee no wrong; didst not thou agree with me for a penny? ¹⁴ Take what is thine, and be gone: it is my pleasure to give to this last as I do to thee; ¹⁵ and may I not do what I will with my own? ¹⁶ Is thine eye evil because I am good? Thus the last shall be first, and the first last; for there are many called, but few chosen.

²⁸ But what think ye of this? There was a man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, Son, go, work to day in my vineyard: ²⁹ and he answered I will not; but afterwards repenting, he went. ³⁰ And coming to the second, he spake in like manner: and he answered, Yes, Sir; and went not. ³¹ Now which of the two did the will of his father? They say unto Him, The first. Jesus replied, Verily I say unto you, that publicans and prostitutes enter into the kingdom of God before you: ³² for John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye did not believe him; but publicans and harlots believed him; and though ye saw that, ye did not repent afterwards, to believe him. ³³ Hear another parable, There was a certain man, a master of a family, that planted a vineyard, and made a fence about it, and put a wine-press in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and travelled abroad. ³⁴ And when the fruit-season drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, to receive the fruits of it: ³⁵ and the husbandmen took his servants and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ And he sent again other servants more than the first: and they did the like to them. ³⁷ At last he sent unto them his Son, saying, They will reverence my Son. ³⁸ But when the husbandmen saw the Son, they said among themselves, This is the heir, come, let us kill him, and seize on his inheritance: ³⁹ so they took him and cast him out of the vineyard and slew him. ⁴⁰ When therefore the lord of the vineyard cometh, what will he do to those husbandmen? ⁴¹ They answer, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out the vineyard to other husbandmen, who will render him the fruits in their seasons. ⁴² Then saith Jesus to them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, "The stone which the builders refused, is made the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?" ⁴³ Therefore I tell you, that the kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation, that will bring forth the fruits thereof. ⁴⁴ And he that stumbleth at this stone shall be bruised, but on whomsoever it falls, it will crush him to pieces. ⁴⁵ And when the chief priests and pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that He spake of them: ⁴⁶ and would have seized Him, but that they were afraid of the people; because they took Him for a prophet.

³³ And in many such parables spake He the word to them, as they had ability to hear it: but spake not to them without a parable. ³⁴ And He explained all to his disciples in private.

¹⁰ And He said, To you it is granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but I speak to others in parables, that in seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.

¹⁶ Upon which He said, A certain man made a great supper and invited many;

²⁴ Another parable propounded He unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like a man, who sowed good grain in his ground:

³¹ Another parable delivered He unto them, saying, The gospel-kingdom is like a grain of mustard-seed, which a man took and sowed in his field. ³² Which is indeed one of the lest of all seeds: but when it is grown, is the greatest among herbs, and even becometh a tree; so that the birds of the air come and lodge in it's branches. ³³ Another parable spake He unto them, saying, The gospel-kingdom is like leaven, which a woman took and put into a large quantity of dough, till the whole was leavened.

⁴⁴ Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hid in a field, which a man having found conceals, and being rejoiced at it goes and sells all that he has, and purchases that field. ⁴⁵ Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking precious pearls, ⁴⁶ who, having found one of great value, went and sold all that he had, and bought it. ⁴⁷ Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net, that was cast into the sea, and inclosed fishes of various sorts;

¹ Then will the kingdom of heaven be like ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom: and five of them were wise, ² and five were foolish. ³ The foolish ones took their lamps, and took no oil with them: ⁴ but the wise took oil in their vessels as well as in their lamps. ⁵ Now while the bridegroom stayed, they were all drowsy and fell asleep: ⁶ and in the middle of the night there was a cry, The bridegroom is coming, go out to meet him. ⁷ Then all the virgins rose up and trimmed their lamps: ⁸ and the foolish ones said to the wise, Give us of your oil, for our lamps are going out: ⁹ but the wise answered them, saying, Least there should not be enough for us and you, go rather to them that sell it, and buy for yourselves. ¹⁰ And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and they that were ready went in with him to the wedding-feast, and then the door was shut. ¹¹ Afterwards came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us: ¹² but he answered them, Verily I declare unto you, I do not know you. ¹³ Watch therefore, for ye know not the day, nor the season in which the Son of man cometh. ¹⁴ For as a man, who was going to travel abroad, called his servants, and delivered to them his stock: and to one he gave five talents,

¹⁶ Upon which He said, A certain man made a great supper and invited many; ¹⁷ and sent his servant at supper-time to say to them that were invited, Come, for all things are now ready. ¹⁸ And they all with one consent began to make excuses; the first said, I have bought a field, and I must go and see it, pray have me excused. ¹⁹ And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and am going to try them, pray have me excused. ²⁰ And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. ²¹ So the servant came and told his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go directly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the lame, and the blind. ²² And the servant said, Sir, it is done according to thine order, and still there is room. ²³ And the lord said to the servant, Go out into the high-ways and hedges, and press them to come in, that my house may be filled: ²⁴ for I tell you, that none of those men who were invited, shall taste of my supper.

²⁹ He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, who standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth with great joy at the bridegroom's voice. Therefore my joy is complete. ³⁰ He must increase, but I must decrease.

² For I am jealous over you with a godly jealousy, having espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

²⁴ As the church then is subject to Christ, so also should wives be to their own husbands in every thing. ²⁵ Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave up Himself for it: ²⁶ to sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, ²⁷ that He might prepare it for Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any such thing: but that it should be holy and unblameable. ²⁸ Men ought so to love their wives, as their own bodies: he that loveth his wife, loveth himself. ²⁹ For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord also doth the church: ³⁰ for we are members of his body, as if taken out of his flesh, and of his bones, as Eve was out of Adam's. ³¹ For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. ³² This mystery is great: but I speak concerning Christ and the Church.

⁷ Let us rejoice and exult and give glory to Him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. ⁸ And it was given to her, that she should be arrayed in fine linen clean and bright: for the fine linen is the righteousness of the saints. ⁹ And he said unto me, Write, Happy they who are invited to the marriage-supper of the Lamb. And he said unto me, These are the true words of God.

² and saying, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand:

⁶ but go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. ⁷ And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand: and in confirmation of your doctrine heal the sick,

³⁴ And when the fruit-season drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, to receive the fruits of it:

³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

⁷ And He calleth unto Him the twelve, and sent them forth two and two, and gave them power over impure spirits; ⁸ and ordered them to take nothing for their journey, but a staff only; no bag, nor bread, nor money in their purse: ⁹ but to tie on their sandals, and not to put on two coats. ¹⁰ And He said unto them, wheresoever ye enter into a house, there stay till ye leave that place. ¹¹ And whosoever will not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, it shall be more tolerable for Sodom or Gomorrah in the day of judgement, than for that city.

¹ And He called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases: ² and He sent them forth to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. ³ And He said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; nor two coats a piece. ⁴ And into whatever house ye enter, continue there, till ye leave that place. ⁵ And whosoever will not receive you, when ye depart from that city, shake off the very dust from your feet, for a testimony against them. ⁶ And they went from town to town, preaching the gospel and healing every where.

³⁴ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killest the prophets and stonest them that are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and ye would not?

¹⁵ And one of those; who sat at table with Him, hearing these things, said unto Him, Happy is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God. ¹⁶ Upon which He said, A certain man made a great supper and invited many; ¹⁷ and sent his servant at supper-time to say to them that were invited, Come, for all things are now ready.

²⁸ Therefore his father came out and desired him.

²⁷ But those mine enemies, who would not have me to reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

⁴⁰ and they testify of me: and yet ye will not come to me, that ye may have life.

⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, opposing and reviling him.

²¹ and saith to Israel, "All the day long have I stretched out my hands to a disobedient and gainsaying people."

²⁵ See that ye reject not Him that speaketh; for if they escaped not, who rejected him that gave forth divine oracles on earth, much less shall we, if we turn away from Him that speaketh from heaven:

¹⁷ And the Spirit and the bride say, Come; and let him that heareth say, Come. And let him, that thirsteth, Come. And let him, that desireth it, take the water of life freely.

³⁶ And he sent again other servants more than the first: and they did the like to them.

⁸ Then saith he to his servants, The feast is ready, but they that were invited were not worthy of it:

¹ After these things the Lord appointed also seventy others, and sent them two and two before Him, into every city and place, whither He himself was about to come. ² And He said unto them, The harvest indeed is great, but the laborers are few: pray therefore to the Lord of the harvest, that He would send out workmen to his harvest. ³ Go your ways: behold I send you forth as lambs in the midst of wolves. ⁴ Carry neither purse, nor bag, nor shoes; and salute no one by the way. ⁵ But whatever house ye come into, first say, Peace be to this house: ⁶ and if there be a child of peace there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall return upon yourselves. ⁷ But remain in the same house, eating and drinking such as they have; for the laborer is worthy of his hire. ⁸ Go not from house to house. And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you; ⁹ and heal those in it that are sick, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come unto you. ¹⁰ But into whatever city ye come, and they receive you not, go out into the streets of it and say, ¹¹ even the dust that cleaveth to us out of your city we wipe off against you: but know this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. ¹² And I tell you, it shall be more tolerable in that day even for Sodom than for that city. ¹³ Wo unto thee, Chorazin, wo unto thee, Bethsaida, for if the miracles wrought among you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long ago have repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. ¹⁴ But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgement than for you. ¹⁵ And thou Capernaum, which art exalted even to heaven, shalt be cast down to hell. ¹⁶ ---He, that heareth you, heareth me; and he, that rejecteth you, rejecteth me; and he, that rejecteth me, rejecteth Him that sent me.

¹⁷ and sent his servant at supper-time to say to them that were invited, Come, for all things are now ready.

⁴⁶ and said unto them, thus it is written, and thus it was necessary that the Christ should suffer, and rise again from the dead on the third day; ⁴⁷ and that in his name should be preached repentance and remission of sins to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

⁵⁰ that any one may eat thereof and not die. ⁵¹ I am the living bread, which came down from heaven: if any one eat of this bread, he shall live for ever. And the bread, that I will give, is my flesh, which I will give up for the life of the world. ⁵² The Jews therefore cavilled amongst themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? ⁵³ Then said Jesus unto them, I tell you truly, that unless ye eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. ⁵⁴ He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁵⁵ For my flesh is truly food, and my blood is truly drink: he that feedeth on my flesh and drinketh my blood, ⁵⁶ abideth in me and I in him. ⁵⁷ As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father; so he that feedeth on me he also shall live by me.

⁸ But ye shall receive power from the holy Spirit coming upon you: and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and to the uttermost part of the earth.

¹⁹ Now they that were dispersed by the trouble, which arose about Stephen, travelled as far as Phenicia, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but the Jews only. ²⁰ But some of them were Cyprians, and Cyrenians, who when they came to Antioch, discoursed with the Grecians also, preaching the Lord Jesus.

⁴⁶ Then Paul and Barnabas boldly said, It was necessary that the word of God should be first spoken to you; but since ye reject it, and judge not yourselves worthy of eternal life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles:

¹⁷ And after three days Paul called together the chief of the Jews. And when they were come together, he said unto them, Brethren, though I have done nothing against the people of the Jews, or the customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered a prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans: ¹⁸ who when they had examined me, would have set me at liberty, because there was no crime worthy of death found in me: ¹⁹ but the Jews opposing it, I was obliged to appeal to Cesar; though not as having any thing to accuse my nation of. ²⁰ For this reason therefore I desired to see and to speak to you: because that for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain. ²¹ And they said to him, We have neither received letters concerning thee from Judea, nor has any of the brethren, that is come hither, related or spoken any ill of thee. ²² But we would willingly hear from thee what thou thinkest: for as to this sect, we know that it is every where spoken against. ²³ And having appointed him a day, many came to him at his lodging; to whom he discoursed and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them of the things concerning Jesus, both from the law of Moses, and from the prophets, from morning till evening. ²⁴ And some regarded the things that were spoken, but others did not believe. ²⁵ And so disagreeing one with another they separated, when Paul had said one word, to wit, that the holy Spirit spake rightly by Esaias the prophet to our fathers, ²⁶ saying, Go to this people and say, Ye shall hear by the hearing of the ear, and not understand; and in seeing ye shall see, and not perceive: for the heart of this people is stupified, ²⁷ and they hear heavily with their ears, and have closed their eyes; least they should see at all with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. ²⁸ Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent to the Gentiles, and they will hear it. ²⁹ And when he had said these things, the Jews departed, having much debate among themselves. ³⁰ And Paul abode two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came to him: ³¹ preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ, with all freedom, none forbidding him.

³² He that spared not his own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him freely give us all things?

⁷ Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new mass, without leaven. For our paschal lamb, even Christ, was slain for us. ⁸ Wherefore let us keep the feast, not with the old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavening of sincerity and truth.

²² And he that received the seed among the thorns, is one that likewise heareth the word; but the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches choketh the word, and so it becometh unfruitful.

³⁸ for as in the days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, till the day that Noah entered into the ark, ³⁹ and knew not of it till the deluge came and took them all away; so shall be also the coming of the Son of man.

²⁶ And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. ²⁷ They were eating, drinking, marrying, and being married, till the day that Noah went into the ark: and the flood came and destroyed them all. ²⁸ And as it was likewise in the days of Lot; they were eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, and building: ²⁹ but the very day that Lot went out from Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. ³⁰ Thus shall it be in the day that the Son of man is revealed. ³¹ In that day, whoever shall be on the house-top, and his goods in the house, let him not come down into it to take them away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back. ³² Remember Lot's wife. Whosoever shall seek to save his life, shall lose it;

¹³ but others scoffing said, they are full of sweet wine.

²⁵ And as he was reasoning of justice, temperance, and a future judgement, Felix trembled, and said, Go thy way for this time, and I will take a proper opportunity to call for thee again.

⁴ Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness, and forbearance, and long-suffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

⁶ Now to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace:

⁹ But they, that will be rich, fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which plunge men into ruin and perdition. ¹⁰ For the love of money is the root of all evils, which some coveting after have been led astray from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

⁴ headstrong, conceited, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God,

³ how shall we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation? which began to be declared by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by them that heard Him;

¹⁵ Love not the world, nor the things that are in the world; for if any one love the world to excess, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the desire of the flesh, and the desire of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but of the world.

¹⁰ Blessed are they, who are persecuted for righteousness sake; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ¹¹ Blessed are ye when men shall revile and persecute you, and utter all manner of reproach against you falsly, for my sake: ¹² rejoice and be exceeding glad; for great will be your reward in heaven: for so they persecuted the prophets, that were before you.

¹² And when ye come into the house, salute them: ¹³ and if the family be worthy, let your peace come upon it; but if they be not worthy, your salutation shall return to you. ¹⁴ And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hearken to your words; when ye come out of that house or city, shake off the very dust of your feet: ¹⁵ for I tell you verily, it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha, in the day of judgement, than for that city. ¹⁶ Behold I send you forth as sheep into the midst of wolves: be ye therefore prudent as serpents, and innocent as doves. ¹⁷ Beware of evil men; for they will deliver you up to their councils, and will scourge you in their synagogues. ¹⁸ And ye shall be brought before governors and kings on my account, for a testimony to them and to the nations:

²² and ye shall be hated by all men for professing my name; but he that perseveres to the end shall certainly be saved. ²³ But when they persecute you in one city, flee into another: for verily I tell you, ye shall not finish your commission through the cities of Israel, before the Son of man shall come. ²⁴ The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord: ²⁵ it is sufficient sure for the disciple that he be treated as his master, and the servant as his lord. If then they call the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more his domestics?

³⁵ and the husbandmen took his servants and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ And he sent again other servants more than the first: and they did the like to them. ³⁷ At last he sent unto them his Son, saying, They will reverence my Son. ³⁸ But when the husbandmen saw the Son, they said among themselves, This is the heir, come, let us kill him, and seize on his inheritance: ³⁹ so they took him and cast him out of the vineyard and slew him.

³⁴ For behold I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes; and some of them ye will kill and crucify, and some of them ye will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: ³⁵ that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel, to the blood of Zacharias the son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Verily I tell you, all these things shall come upon this generation. ³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

¹⁹ If ye were of the world, the world would love its own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. ²⁰ Remember what I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you: if they have observed my word, they will also observe yours.

² for they will excommunicate you: yea, the time is coming, that whosoever killeth you, will think that he offers an acceptable service to God. ³ And these things will they do unto you; because they have not known the Father, nor me.

¹ And while they were speaking to the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the sadducees came upon them, ² being vexed that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead. ³ And they laid hands on them, and put them into custody till the next day: for it was now evening.

⁴⁰ So they took his advice, and having called for the apostles and scourged them, they charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. ⁴¹ And they departed from the presence of the council rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer disgrace for his name.

⁵¹ Ye stiff-necked, and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the holy Spirit: as your fathers did, so do ye. ⁵² Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? and slew those who prophesied concerning the coming of that righteous One, of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers; ⁵³ who received the law by the ministration of angels, and yet have not kept it. ⁵⁴ And when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart and gnashed their teeth at him. ⁵⁵ But he being full of the holy Spirit looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God: ⁵⁶ and he said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing at the right hand of God. ⁵⁷ Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord,

¹ And Saul was well pleased with his execution. For at that time there was a great persecution against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all dispersed through the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.

¹⁴ For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God, which are in Judea, in Christ Jesus, in that ye also have suffered the same things from your own countrymen, as they have from the Jews: ¹⁵ who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; who are displeasing to God, and contrary to all men:

⁴⁰ When therefore the lord of the vineyard cometh, what will he do to those husbandmen? ⁴¹ They answer, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out the vineyard to other husbandmen, who will render him the fruits in their seasons.

⁴² saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at lest in this thy day, the things relating to thy peace--- but now they are hid from thine eyes. ⁴³ For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast up a trench about thee, and surround thee, and keep thee in on every side, ⁴⁴ and shall lay thee to the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another: because thou didst not regard the time of thy visitation.

²¹ and those that are in the midst of it, depart; and let not them that are in the countries enter into it.

²⁴ and they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and be led captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trampled down by the Gentiles, till the times of the Gentiles too shall be fulfilled.

¹⁶ forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, thus going on to fill up their sins perpetually: but wrath is coming upon them to extremity.

¹⁷ For the time is coming when judgement is to begin at the house of God: and if at us first, what will be the end of those that obey not the gospel of God? ¹⁸ And if the righteous be saved with difficulty, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

¹¹ And into whatsoever city or town ye enter, inquire who in it is a worthy person, and there remain till ye leave the place. ¹² And when ye come into the house, salute them: ¹³ and if the family be worthy, let your peace come upon it; but if they be not worthy, your salutation shall return to you.

³⁷ He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me: ³⁸ and he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

³⁵ But they who are counted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:

³⁶ Watch therefore and be constant in prayer, that ye may be counted worthy to escape all these things, which shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

⁵ Which are a demonstration of the just judgement of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:

⁴ Thou hast a few names even in Sardis, which have not defiled their garments, and they shall walk with me in white; for they are worthy.

¹⁴ Happy are they that do his commandments, so shall they have a right to the tree of life, and may enter in by the gates into the city.

¹⁵ And He said unto them, Go to all the world and preach the gospel to every one: ¹⁶ he that believeth and is baptized, shall be saved; but he that believeth not, shall be condemned.

⁴⁷ and that in his name should be preached repentance and remission of sins to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

⁴⁷ for so the Lord hath commanded us, saying, "I have appointed thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation to the utmost part of the earth."

⁸ On me, who am less than the least of all saints, was this grace bestowed, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

³⁸ the field is the world; the good seed are the children of my kingdom; and the tares are the children of the wicked one.

⁴⁷ Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net, that was cast into the sea, and inclosed fishes of various sorts; ⁴⁸ which, when it was full, they dragged to the shore, and sat down and gathered the good into vessels, and threw out the bad.

¹¹ But when the king came in to look at the guests, he saw there a man that had not put on a wedding-garment, and saith to him, ¹² Friend, how camest thou in here without a wedding-garment? and he was struck speechless.

¹ Then will the kingdom of heaven be like ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom: and five of them were wise, ² and five were foolish.

¹⁰ And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and they that were ready went in with him to the wedding-feast, and then the door was shut.

⁹ What! know ye not that the unjust shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor the effeminate, nor sodomites, ¹⁰ nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor rapacious persons, shall inherit the kingdom of God. ¹¹ And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the spirit of our God.

²¹ when I come again, my God should humble me among you, and I should be grieved for many of those who have sinned heretofore, and have not repented of the impurity, and fornication, and lewdness which they have practised.

¹⁹ They went out from us, but they were not of us: for if they had been indeed of us, they would have continued with us; but this was done that they might be made manifest, because all, that are with us, are not indeed of us.

¹⁴ But I have a few things against thee; for thou hast there those that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to cast a stumbling-block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit fornication. ¹⁵ So thou hast also them that hold the like doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which I hate.

²⁰ But I have a few things against thee; because thou sufferest the woman Jezabel, who saith that she is a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication and to eat things sacrificed to idols. ²¹ And I gave her time to repent of her fornication, and she repented not. ²² Behold I will cast her into a bed, and those that commit whoredom with her, into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds: ²³ and I will cut off her children by death; and all the churches shall know, that I am He who searcheth the reins and hearts, and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

⁹ And they sung a new song, saying, Worthy art thou to take the book, and to open its seals; for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood, out of every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation;

⁹ After this I beheld, and lo, a great multitude, which no one could number, out of all nations, and tribes, and people, and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and with palms in their hands;

⁶ And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the noise of many waters, and as the sound of mighty thunders, saying, Alleluia, for the Lord God the almighty reigneth.

¹² Whose fan is in his hand, and He will thoroughly cleanse his floor, and gather the wheat into his granary, but will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

³⁰ Let both grow together till harvest, and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, First gather the weeds together, and bind them in bundles to burn them; but carry the wheat into my barn.

³¹ So when the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then shall He sit upon his glorious throne: ³² and all nations shall be assembled before Him; and He shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides the sheep from the goats:

²² and this righteousness of God is by faith in Jesus Christ unto all and upon all believers; for there is no difference;

¹⁴ But put on the Lord Jesus, and make not provision for the flesh to gratify its irregular desires.

⁵ Wherefore judge nothing before the time; even until the Lord come, who will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every one have praise from God.

³ yet we shall not be found naked.

²⁷ For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ, have put on Christ:

²⁴ and to put on the new man, which according to the image of God is created in righteousness, and true holiness.

¹⁰ and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge, after the image of Him that created him. ¹¹ Wherein there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, slave, or free: but Christ is all and in all.

¹² For the word of God is lively and efficacious, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, and of the very joints and marrow, and judging the thoughts and intentions of the heart. ¹³ And there is no creature concealed from his sight: but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him, to whom we are to give an account.

²³ and I will cut off her children by death; and all the churches shall know, that I am He who searcheth the reins and hearts, and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

⁴ Thou hast a few names even in Sardis, which have not defiled their garments, and they shall walk with me in white; for they are worthy. ⁵ He that overcometh shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name from the book of life; but I will own his name before my Father, and before his angels.

¹⁸ I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayst be rich; and white raiment that thou mayst be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness may not appear: and anoint thine eyes with eye-salve, that thou mayst see.

¹⁵ "Behold, I come as a thief: blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, that he may not walk naked, and his shame be seen."

⁸ And it was given to her, that she should be arrayed in fine linen clean and bright: for the fine linen is the righteousness of the saints.

²⁰ For I tell you, that unless your righteousness exceed that of the scribes and pharisees, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

¹³ But he answered, and said to one of them, Friend, I do thee no wrong; didst not thou agree with me for a penny?

⁵⁰ And Jesus said to him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? then they came up and laid hands on Jesus, and apprehended Him.

² sold a possession, and secreted part of the price, his wife also being conscious to it; and bringing: some part, laid it at the feet of the apostles. ³ But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan so filled thine heart, that thou shouldst lie to the holy Ghost, and keep back part of the price of the land? ⁴ While it remained, did it not remain thy own? and when sold, was it not in thy own power? what is the meaning that thou hast taken this into thine heart? Thou hast not lyed to men, but to God. ⁵ And Ananias at the hearing of these words fell down and expired: and great fear came on all that heard these things. ⁶ And some of the young men arose, and wrapped him up; and they carried him out, and buried him. ⁷ And about the space of three hours after, his wife also came in, not knowing what had happened. ⁸ And Peter said to her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much. And she said, Yes, for so much. ⁹ Then Peter said unto her, Wherefore have ye agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold the feet of those, who have been burying thy husband, now at the door, and they shall carry thee out. ¹⁰ And immediately she fell down at his feet and expired: and the young men coming in found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her by her husband. ¹¹ And great fear came upon the whole assembly, and upon all that heard these things.

²⁰ But Peter said unto him, Let thy money perish with thee, since thou thoughtest to purchase the gift of God with money. ²¹ Thou hast no part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. ²² Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray to God, if so be the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee: ²³ for I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness and bond of iniquity.

¹⁹ it saith to those under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world obnoxious to the justice of God.

¹¹ and sinneth as being self-condemned.

¹² and the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into the outer darkness; where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

²⁹ Or, how can any one enter into the house of a strong man, and take away his goods, unless he first overpower the strong man? and then indeed he may strip his house.

⁴² and there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

⁵⁰ and shall cast them into the fiery furnace, and there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

⁵¹ and will cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with hypocrites: where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

³⁰ and cast out the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness, where there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

²⁸ and there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves shut out.

¹⁸ Verily, verily I say unto thee, When thou wast younger, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst about where thou wouldest: but when thou art old, thou shalt stretch out thine hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee where thou wouldest not.

⁵⁴ And when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart and gnashed their teeth at him.

¹¹ and he came to us, and taking up Paul's girdle, and binding his own hands and feet, he said, Thus saith the holy Spirit, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man whose girdle this is, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.

⁹ who shall be punished with everlasting destruction, by the presence of the Lord and by his glorious power:

⁴ For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgement; and if He spared not the old world,

¹⁷ These are wells without water, clouds driven by a storm, for whom thick darkness is reserved for ever.

⁶ and the angels that kept not their primitive state, but left their proper abode, hath He reserved in everlasting chains, under darkness, to the judgement of the great day:

¹³ wandering stars, for whom blackness of darkness is reserved for ever.

²⁷ And nothing shall enter into it that defileth, and practiseth abomination and falshood: but those only who are written in the Lamb's book of life.

¹³ Enter ye in at the strait gate; for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be who go in thereat: ¹⁴ whereas the gate is narrow, and the way troublesome, which leadeth into life, and few there be that find it.

¹⁶ Is thine eye evil because I am good? Thus the last shall be first, and the first last; for there are many called, but few chosen.

²² And unless those days be shortened, no one would be saved; but for the sake of the elect those days shall be shortened.

²³ And one said to Him, Lord, are there but few that shall be saved? ²⁴ But He said unto them, Strive to enter in at the strait gate; for I tell you, many will desire to enter in, and shall not be able.

¹⁰ Wherefore, my brethren, be the more diligent thus to make your calling and election sure; for if ye do these things ye shall never fall.

¹⁴ These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for He is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and those that are with Him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

¹³ And they send to Him some of the pharisees, and of the Herodians to insnare Him in his discourse: ¹⁴ and these, when they came, said to Him, Master, we know that thou art a man of truth, and carest for no man; for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to pay tribute to Cesar, or not? should we give, or should we not give? ¹⁵ But He knew their hypocrisy, and said to them, Why do ye tempt me? bring me a penny, that I may see it. ¹⁶ So they brought one: and He saith to them, Whose is this image and inscription? And they said Cesar's. ¹⁷ And Jesus answered and said unto them, Render then unto Cesar the things that are Cesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at Him.

⁵³ As He was saying these things unto them the scribes and pharisees began vehemently to attack Him, and urge Him to speak of many things, ⁵⁴ laying snares for Him, and endeavouring to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse Him.

²⁰ And they watched Him and sent out spies, pretending to be righteous men, to lay hold of his words, that they might deliver Him up to the power and authority of the governor. ²¹ And they asked Him, saying, Master, we know that thou speakest and teachest rightly, and acceptest not the person of any, but teachest the way of God in truth: ²² is it lawful for us to give tribute to Cesar, or not? ²³ But He perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why do ye tempt me? ²⁴ Shew me a penny: whose image and inscription hath it? and they answered, Cesar's. ²⁵ Then said He unto them, Render therefore unto Cesar the things that are Cesar's, and to God the things that are God's. ²⁶ And they could not take hold of his word before the people: and they marvelled at his answer and said no more.

³ Wherefore consider Him who endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself, that ye may not give out, fainting in your minds:

¹¹ How is it then that ye do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread, when I bid you to beware of the leaven of the pharisees and of the sadducees? ¹² Then they understood, that He did not bid them beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the pharisees and of the sadducees.

²⁴ and asked Him, saying, Master, Moses said, If any man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up seed unto his brother.

²⁶ likewise the second also, and the third, even to seven;

¹⁸ And He said, Go into the city, to such a man, and tell him, The master saith, my time is near, I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples: and the disciples did as Jesus ordered them,

⁴⁹ and going directly up to Jesus, he said, Hail master, and kissed Him.

⁶ And the pharisees went out, and immediately took counsel with the Herodians against Him, how to destroy Him:

¹⁵ And therefore as He was giving them a charge, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod,

¹⁷ And as he went out into the way, there came one running and kneeling to Him, and asked Him, Good master, what shall I do, that I may inherit eternal life?

¹⁴ and these, when they came, said to Him, Master, we know that thou art a man of truth, and carest for no man; for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to pay tribute to Cesar, or not? should we give, or should we not give?

⁴⁰ And Jesus said unto him, Simon, I have something to say to thee: (and he replied, Master, say on.)

²¹ And they asked Him, saying, Master, we know that thou speakest and teachest rightly, and acceptest not the person of any, but teachest the way of God in truth:

¹⁸ He, that speaketh from himself, seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh the glory of Him that sent him is true, and there is no imposture in him.

⁶ Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me.

³⁷ Pilate therefore said unto Him, Art thou then a king? Jesus answered, Thou sayest right, I am a king. For this end was I born, and for this came I into the world, even that I might bear witness to the truth. Every one that is of the truth, heareth my voice.

¹⁷ For we are not like many who adulterate the word of God: but as with sincerity, but as from God, and in the sight of God, we speak concerning Christ.

² but have rejected shameful disguises, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by the manifestation of the truth, recommending ourselves to every man's conscience, in the sight of God.

¹⁶ Wherefore we henceforth know no one according to the flesh: and if we have known even Christ after the flesh, yet now we thus know Him no more.

¹⁰ For do I now persuade you to obey men or God? Or do I seek to please men? if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

⁶ And as to those who seemed to be men of note, whatever they were, it is all one to me, (God accepteth no man's person) for even these eminent persons added nothing more to me.

⁴ but as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God, who trieth our hearts.

¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above first is pure, then peaceable, mild, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

²⁰ But we know that the son of God is come, and hath given us understanding, that we may know Him that is true, and we are in Him that is true, and in his son Jesus Christ: He is the true God, and eternal life.

²⁵ And when he came into the house, Jesus prevented him and said, What thinkest thou, Simon? Of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? Of their own children, or of other people?

¹ Now in those days an edict was published by Augustus Cesar, that all the world should be enrolled or taxed,

¹ Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Cesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea and Trachonitis,

¹² Upon this Pilate sought to release Him; but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou release this man, thou art not Cesar's friend; for whosoever maketh himself a king, opposeth Cesar. ¹³ Therefore when Pilate heard this he brought Jesus forth, and sat down on the tribunal, in a place called the Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha. ¹⁴ (And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour.) And he saith to the Jews, Behold your king. But they cried out, ¹⁵ Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your king? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Cesar.

³⁷ After him arose Judas the Galilean, at the time of the registring, and drew much people after him: but he also perished, and all that followed him were dispersed.

⁷ are come hither also, and Jason has privately received them. And they all act contrary to the decrees of Cesar, saying, there is another king, one Jesus.

⁸ he answering in his own defence, Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Cesar have I committed any offence.

²² But we would willingly hear from thee what thou thinkest: for as to this sect, we know that it is every where spoken against.

⁶ For you pay them tribute also for this reason; because they are God's ministers, continually attending hereunto. ⁷ Render therefore to all what is their due: tribute to whom tribute is due, custom to whom custom, reverence to whom reverence, honor to whom honor.

¹ And the pharisees and sadducees came to Him, and captiously asked Him to shew them a sign from heaven. ² But He answered them, In the evening ye say, It will be fair weather, for the sky is red: ³ and in the morning, It will be foul weather to-day, for the sky is red and lowring. Ye hypocrites, can ye distinguish the appearance of the sky, and not discern the signs of these times? ⁴ This wicked and degenerate race demand a sign; but no sign shall be given them, except that of the prophet Jonah. And so He left them and went away.

³ And the pharisees came to Him to ensnare Him, and asked Him, whether it was lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?

⁸ And Jesus, who knew immediately in his spirit that they were thus reasoning within themselves, said unto them, Why do ye dispute these things in your hearts?

⁵ And again, he sent another; and him they killed: and many others, beating some, and killing others.

²² but Jesus knowing their thoughts, answered and said unto them, What are ye disputing in your hearts?

⁴⁷ And Jesus knowing the thought of their heart, took a child and set him by Him, and said unto them,

²⁵ And behold, a lawyer stood up to try Him, and said, Master, what must I do to inherit eternal life?

²³ But He perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why do ye tempt me?

²⁵ for He knew all men, and He had no need that any should testify concerning man; for He knew what was in man.

⁶ This they said to tempt Him, that they might have something to accuse Him of. But Jesus stooping down, wrote with his finger upon the ground.

⁹ Then Peter said unto her, Wherefore have ye agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold the feet of those, who have been burying thy husband, now at the door, and they shall carry thee out.

²⁸ But that same servant, as he was going out, met with one of his fellow-servants, who owed him but an hundred pence; and he laid hold on him and seized him by the throat, saying, Pay me what thou owest me:

² and agreeing with the men for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard:

⁶ And I heard a voice in the midst of the four animals saying, One measure of wheat for a denary, and but three measures of barley for a denary: but see that thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

²⁴ Shew me a penny: whose image and inscription hath it? and they answered, Cesar's.

¹⁰ then Jesus saith unto him, Be gone, Satan; for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God,

²⁵ And when he came into the house, Jesus prevented him and said, What thinkest thou, Simon? Of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? Of their own children, or of other people? ²⁶ Peter saith unto Him, Of others. Jesus answered him, Then are the children free: ²⁷ but that we may not give them offence, go to the sea-side and throw in a hook, and take the first fish that comes up, and open its mouth, and thou shalt find a piece of money: that take and give them for me and thee.

³⁷ And Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind: this is the first and great command.

² And they began to accuse Him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbiding to give tribute to Cesar; saying, that He himself is Christ the king.

¹⁹ But Peter and John answered them, and said, Whether it be right in the sight of God to obey you rather than God, judge ye:

²⁹ But Peter, and the other apostles, answered, and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

⁷ Render therefore to all what is their due: tribute to whom tribute is due, custom to whom custom, reverence to whom reverence, honor to whom honor.

¹³ Be subject therefore to every human form of government, for the Lord's sake: whether it be to a king as supreme; ¹⁴ or to governors as persons sent by him for the punishment of evil-doers, and the praise of them that do well. ¹⁵ For so is the will of God, that by your good behaviour ye may silence the ignorance of foolish men: ¹⁶ as free, and yet not using your liberty as a cloke for wickedness, but as the servants of God. ¹⁷ Give due honor to all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

¹⁶ Behold I send you forth as sheep into the midst of wolves: be ye therefore prudent as serpents, and innocent as doves.

³³ And when the people heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine.

⁴⁶ And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor did any dare, from that day, to ask Him any more such questions.

¹² And they sought to lay hands on Him, but they were afraid of the people; (for they knew that He spake the parable against them) and they left Him, and went away.

¹⁵ which all your adversaries shall not be able to contradict nor withstand.

¹⁰ and they were not able to resist the wisdom and spirit by which he spake.

⁶ Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with discretion to know how ye ought to answer every one.

⁷ But when he saw many of the pharisees and sadducees coming to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

⁶ and therefore when Jesus said to them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the pharisees and of the sadducees,

¹⁸ Then come the sadducees to Him, who say there is no resurrection; ¹⁹ and they asked Him, saying, Master, Moses, in his writings tells us, if any one's brother die, and leave a wife, and leave no children, that his brother shall take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother. ²⁰ Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife and died and left no seed; ²¹ and the second took her, and died, and he left no seed neither; and the third likewise. ²² And all the seven had her, and left no seed: last of all died the woman also. ²³ In the resurrection therefore, when they rise again, whose wife shall be of them; for all the seven had her to wife? ²⁴ And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, nor the power of God? ²⁵ For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels in heaven. ²⁶ But as to the dead, that they are raised, have ye not read in the book of Moses, how God spake to him in the bush, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? ²⁷ He is not the God of the dead, but of the living: therefore ye do greatly mistake.

²⁷ And some of the Sadducees (who deny a resurrection) came to Him and asked Him, ²⁸ saying, Moses enjoined us, if any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die childless, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother. ²⁹ Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died childless; and the second took the wife, and he died childless; ³⁰ and the third took her; ³¹ and in like manner all the seven. ³² And they died and left no children. Last of all the woman also died. ³³ Therefore at the resurrection whose wife is she? for all the seven had her to wife. ³⁴ And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry and are given in marriage. ³⁵ But they who are counted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: ³⁶ for they can die no more, being like the angels: and they are the children of God as being the children of the resurrection. ³⁷ Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush; for he calleth the Lord, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. ³⁸ And He is not the God of the dead, but of the living; for to Him they are all living. ³⁹ And some of the scribes replied, Master, thou hast indeed said right. ⁴⁰ And they dared not any more to ask Him any such question.

¹ And while they were speaking to the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the sadducees came upon them,

¹⁷ Then the high priest rose up, and all that were with him, (being of the sect of the sadducees,) and were filled with rage:

⁶ But Paul, knowing that the one part were sadducees, and the other pharisees, cried out in the sanhedrim, "Brethren, I am a pharisee, the son of a pharisee: for the hope of a resurrection of the dead I am now prosecuted." ⁷ Upon his saying this, there rose a contention between the pharisees and the sadducees; and the people were divided. ⁸ For the sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor angel, nor spirit; but the pharisees acknowledge both.

¹² Now if it be preached that Christ is risen from the dead, how say some among you, that there is no resurrection of the dead? ¹³ for if there be no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. ¹⁴ And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

¹⁸ saying that the resurrection is already past; and subvert the faith of some.

²¹ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doth the will of my Father, who is in heaven:

¹⁶ And they send to Him their disciples along with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art a man of truth, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest for any man; for thou regardest not the person of men: Tell us therefore what thou thinkest,

³⁶ and said, Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law?

¹⁹ and they asked Him, saying, Master, Moses, in his writings tells us, if any one's brother die, and leave a wife, and leave no children, that his brother shall take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother.

⁴⁶ But why do ye call me, Lord, Lord, and do not practise what I teach you?

²⁸ saying, Moses enjoined us, if any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die childless, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother.

²⁷ And as it is appointed to men once to die, and after this the judgement;

³⁷ for nothing is impossible with God.

⁴⁴ And He said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all the things must be fulfilled, which are written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and Psalms, concerning me. ⁴⁵ Then He opened their mind, to understand the scriptures:

⁹ For they did not before understand the scripture, that He must rise from the dead.

⁸ What! is it judged incredible by you, that God should raise the dead?

⁴ For whatever things were written heretofore, were written for our instruction; that we through patience and the consolation of the scriptures might have hope.

²¹ that it may be made like his glorious body, according to the energy of his ability to subdue all things to Himself.

⁴³ But the righteous shall then shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

¹⁰ See that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I tell you, that their angels in heaven do continually appear in the presence of my father, who is in heaven:

³⁸ for as in the days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, till the day that Noah entered into the ark,

²⁴ And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, nor the power of God? ²⁵ For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels in heaven.

²⁷ They were eating, drinking, marrying, and being married, till the day that Noah went into the ark: and the flood came and destroyed them all.

³⁴ And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry and are given in marriage. ³⁵ But they who are counted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: ³⁶ for they can die no more, being like the angels: and they are the children of God as being the children of the resurrection.

²⁸ Wonder not at this; for the time is coming, in which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, ²⁹ and shall come forth, they that have done good to the resurrection of life, and they that have done evil to the resurrection of damnation.

²⁹ But this I say, brethren, that the time is short: it remains therefore, that even those, who have wives, be as though they had none; ³⁰ and they, that weep, as if they wept not; and they, that rejoice, as if they rejoiced not; and they, that buy, as if they possessed not; ³¹ and they, that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.

¹ Behold then what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the children of God: though for this reason the world knoweth us not, because it knew not Him. ² Beloved, we are now the children of God, but it doth not yet appear what we shall be: we know however, that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is.

⁹ And they sung a new song, saying, Worthy art thou to take the book, and to open its seals; for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood, out of every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation; ¹⁰ and hast made us to our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth. ¹¹ And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round the throne and the animals and the elders: and the number of them was myriads of myriads, and thousands of thousands;

¹⁰ And I fell at his feet to worship him: and he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellow-servant, and a fellow-servant of thy brethren, that hold the testimony of Jesus. Worship God. For the Spirit of prophecy is the testimony of Jesus.

¹³ "I desire mercy rather than sacrifice:" for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.

³ But He replied, Have ye not read what David did, when he, and his attendants, were hungry? how he went into the house of God,

⁷ and if ye had known what that scripture means, "I desire mercy rather than sacrifice," ye would not have condemned the guiltless.

¹⁶ And Jesus saith unto them, Yes, have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast procured praise?

⁴² Then saith Jesus to them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, "The stone which the builders refused, is made the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?"

³⁷ Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush; for he calleth the Lord, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. ³⁸ And He is not the God of the dead, but of the living; for to Him they are all living.

³² saying, "I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob;" but Moses trembling durst not look on.

¹⁶ But they desire a better, that is, an heavenly one; wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for He hath prepared for them a city.

²⁸ And when Jesus had ended these discourses, the people were amazed at his doctrine: ²⁹ for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes.

²² And when they heard this, they marvelled, and left Him and went away.

² and when the sabbath was come, He began to teach in the synagogue: and many that heard Him were astonished, and said, From whence hath He these things? and what is this wisdom which is given unto Him, that even such mighty things are done by his hands?

¹⁷ And Jesus answered and said unto them, Render then unto Cesar the things that are Cesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at Him.

⁴⁷ And all that heard Him were astonished at his understanding and his answers.

²² And they all bare witness to Him, and wondered at the gracefulness of the words, which proceeded from his mouth, and said, Is not this the son of Joseph?

⁴⁶ Never man spake like this man.

¹⁴ But the pharisees went out of the synagogue and took counsel together against Him, how they might destroy Him:

³ The foolish ones took their lamps, and took no oil with them: ⁴ but the wise took oil in their vessels as well as in their lamps. ⁵ Now while the bridegroom stayed, they were all drowsy and fell asleep:

²⁸ And one of the scribes, who heard them disputing, seeing that He answered them well, came to Him and asked Him, Which is the chief commandment of all? ²⁹ And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, "Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is the one Lord, ³⁰ and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength:" this is the first or chief commandment, ³¹ and the second is like it, even this, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself:" there is no other commandment greater than these.

⁴⁷ Therefore the chief priests and the pharisees held a council and said, What are we doing? for this man worketh many miracles. ⁴⁸ If we suffer Him to go on thus, all the people will believe on Him, and the Romans will come and destroy both our place and nation. ⁴⁹ But Caiaphas who was one of them, being high-priest that year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all; ⁵⁰ nor do ye consider, that it is better for us that one man should die for the people, than that the whole nation should perish.

²⁴ Now when the high priest, and the captain of the temple, and the chief priests heard these words, they were in doubt concerning them, what this would come to; ²⁵ when there came one and told them, saying, behold, the men whom ye put in prison, are in the temple teaching the people. ²⁶ Then the captain went with the officers and brought them, but not with violence; for they were afraid of the people least they should be stoned: ²⁷ and when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest asked them, ²⁸ saying, Did not we strictly charge you not to teach in this name? and behold ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and would bring this man's blood upon us.

²³ Now there happened at that time no small disturbance about the way which he taught. ²⁴ For one Demetrius, a silver-smith, who made silver models of Diana's temple, brought no small gain to the artificers: whom he got together, ²⁵ and with them the workmen they employed about such things, and said, My friends, ye know that by this employment we get our wealth. ²⁶ And ye see and hear, that not only at Ephesus, but in almost all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and perverted many people, saying, that they are no gods which are made by hands. ²⁷ So that we are not only in danger of this, that the business we follow will come to nothing; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana will be despised; and her magnificence destroyed, whom all Asia and the whole world worshippeth. ²⁸ Hearing this and being filled with rage, they cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

²⁸ this is the man that teaches all men every where against the people of the Jews, and the law, and this sacred place? and besides, hath brought Greeks too into the temple, and polluted this holy place. ²⁹ (For they had before seen Trophimus the Ephesian in the city with him, whom they thought Paul had brought into the temple.) ³⁰ And the whole city was moved, and there was a concourse of the people: and they laid hold on Paul, and dragged him out of the temple; and immediately the gates were shut.

¹⁸ But Jesus knew their malice, and said, Why do ye tempt me, ye hypocrites?

² And the pharisees came to Him and asked Him, "if it were lawful for a man to put away his wife," tempting Him.

³⁰ but the pharisees indeed and the lawyers rejected the counsel of God within themselves, and were not baptized by him.---

²⁵ And behold, a lawyer stood up to try Him, and said, Master, what must I do to inherit eternal life? ²⁶ He said to him, What is written in the law? How readest thou there? ²⁷ And he answered, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind: and thy neighbor as thyself. ²⁸ And He said unto him, Thou hast answered right; do this and thou shalt live. ²⁹ But he willing to justify himself said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbor? ³⁰ And Jesus replying said, There was a certain man going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among thieves, who after they had stripped and beaten him, went away, leaving him half dead. ³¹ And by chance a certain priest came down that way, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. ³² Likewise a Levite also, when he came to the place, went and looked at him, and then crossed the way and passed by. ³³ But a certain Samaritan, as he was travelling, came up to him, and when He saw him, ³⁴ he was moved with compassion, and went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine; and setting him upon his own beast, brought him to an inn and took care of him. ³⁵ And on the morrow, when he went away he took out two denaries, and gave them to the inn-keeper, and said to him, Take care of him, and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again I will repay thee. ³⁶ Which now of these three dost thou think was neighbor to him that fell among the thieves? ³⁷ And he said, He that took pity on him. Therefore said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou in like manner.

⁴⁵ And one of the doctors of the law answered and said unto Him, Master, in saying these things thou reproachest us also. ⁴⁶ And He said, Wo unto you also, ye interpreters of the law, for ye load men with insupportable burthens, and ye yourselves touch not the burthens with one of your fingers.

⁵² Wo unto you interpreters of the law; for ye have taken away the key of knowledge, ye entered not in yourselves, and those that were entering in, ye hindered.

³ And Jesus spake to the expounders of the law and to the pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath-day?

¹³ Forward Zenas the lawyer, and Apollos, on their journey carefully, that nothing may be wanting to them.

¹⁹ Whosoever therefore shall break one of the left of these commandments, and thereby teach men so to do, he shall be esteemed very little in the kingdom of heaven: but whoever shall do as well as teach them, he shall be accounted great in the kingdom of heaven. ²⁰ For I tell you, that unless your righteousness exceed that of the scribes and pharisees, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

⁶ and so honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. And thus have ye made void the commandment of God by your tradition.

²³ Wo unto you scribes and pharisees, hypocrites, who tithe even your mint, and anise, and cummin, but neglect the weightier matters of the law, judgement, mercy, and fidelity: these ye ought undoubtedly to practise, and not to omit the others. ²⁴ Blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel!

²⁸ And one of the scribes, who heard them disputing, seeing that He answered them well, came to Him and asked Him, Which is the chief commandment of all? ²⁹ And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, "Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is the one Lord, ³⁰ and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength:" this is the first or chief commandment, ³¹ and the second is like it, even this, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself:" there is no other commandment greater than these. ³² And the scribe said unto Him, Truly, Master, thou hast spoke exceeding well; for there is one God, and there is no other beside Him. ³³ And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole-burnt-offerings and sacrifices.

⁴² But wo unto you pharisees, who tithe even your mint, and rue, and all your herbs, and pass by judgement and the love of God: these ought ye to practise and not to omit the others.

²⁹ And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, "Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is the one Lord, ³⁰ and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength:" this is the first or chief commandment,

³³ And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole-burnt-offerings and sacrifices.

²⁷ And he answered, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind: and thy neighbor as thyself.

⁷ because the carnal mind is an enemy to God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be:

¹⁶ for after He had said, "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and on their minds will I inscribe them; ¹⁷ He adds, and their sins and their iniquities I will remember no more."

² and in this we know that we love the children of God, since we love God and keep his commandments. ³ For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. ⁴ For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that vanquisheth the world, even our faith. ⁵ Who then is he that overcometh the world, but he who believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

¹⁹ and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thy self.

³¹ and the second is like it, even this, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself:" there is no other commandment greater than these.

⁹ for this command, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet, and every other social precept, is summed up in this, namely, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." ¹⁰ Love worketh no evil to our neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

² but let every one of us please our neighbor for his good, to his edification.

¹⁴ For all the law is fulfilled in one precept, even in this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

¹⁰ And therefore as we have opportunity, let us do good to all men, but especially to those who are of the houshold of faith.

⁸ If ye fulfil the royal law, according to the scripture, which saith, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well.

¹² All things therefore whatsoever ye would have men do to you, do ye also in like manner unto them: for this is the doctrine of the law and the prophets.

¹⁷ For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ:

¹⁹ it saith to those under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world obnoxious to the justice of God. ²⁰ Wherefore by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified before Him: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. ²¹ But now, without the law, righteousness before God is manifested, being attested by the law and the prophets;

⁹ for this command, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet, and every other social precept, is summed up in this, namely, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."

⁵ so do, and acquaint them that the end of that charge is charity, out of a pure heart, and a good conscience, and faith unfeigned:

⁷ Beloved, let us love one another: for love is from God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. ⁸ He, that loveth not, knoweth not God: for God is love. ⁹ In this was the love of God manifested towards us, that God sent his only-begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. ¹⁰ Herein is love; not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent his Son to be a propitiation for our sins. ¹¹ Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

¹⁹ We love Him, because He first loved us. If any one say, ²⁰ I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for how can he, that loveth not his brother, whom he hath seen, love God whom he hath not seen? ²¹ And we have this commandment from Him, that he, who loveth God, should love his brother also.

¹⁵ Then the pharisees went and consulted how they might insnare Him in his discourse.

³⁴ But when the pharisees heard that He had silenced the sadducees,

³⁵ And Jesus spake and said, as He was teaching in the temple, How do the scribes say, that the Christ is the son of David? ³⁶ for David himself said by the holy Spirit, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand till I make thine enemies thy footstool. ³⁷ So that David himself calleth Him Lord: how then is He his son? And many of the people heard Him with pleasure.

⁴¹ And He said unto them, How do they say, that Christ is the son of David? ⁴² when David himself saith in the book of Psalms, "The Lord said unto my Lord, ⁴³ Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool." ⁴⁴ David therefore calleth Him Lord, and how is He then his son?

¹ The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

⁴ and having summoned together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he enquired of them where the Messiah was to be born: and they told him, at Bethlehem in Judea; ⁵ for thus it is written by the prophet, ⁶ "And thou Bethlehem in the land of Juda art not the meanest among the cities of the princes of Juda; for out of thee shall come forth a ruler, that shall feed my people Israel."

²⁷ And as Jesus was going from thence, two blind men followed Him, crying out and saying, Have compassion on us, O Son of David.

³³ Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped Him, saying, Thou art indeed the Son of God.

¹³ And when Jesus came into the parts of Cesarea Philippi, He asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I, the Son of man, am? ¹⁴ And they answered, Some say thou art John the Baptist, others Elias, and others Jeremias, or one of the prophets. ¹⁵ But, saith He unto them, whom do ye say that I am? ¹⁶ And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ the Son of the living God. ¹⁷ And Jesus replied and said unto him, Blessed art thou Simon son of Jonas, for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father who is in heaven.

⁹ and the multitudes, that went before and that followed, cried saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: blessed be He that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.

⁶⁹ and hath raised up an horn of salvation for us, ⁷⁰ in the house of his servant David, as He spake by the mouth of his holy prophets from the beginning,

⁴⁹ Nathaniel replied, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the king of Israel.

⁶⁸ Then Simon Peter answered Him, Lord, to whom shall we go? ⁶⁹ Thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and know that thou art the Messiah, the Son of the living God.

⁴¹ Others said, This is the Messiah. But some said, Shall the Messiah come out of Galilee? ⁴² Hath not the Scripture said, that Christ cometh of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the town whence David was.

²⁸ And Thomas answered, and said, "My Lord and my God."

²² And having removed him, He raised up David for their king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my own heart, who will perform all my will. ²³ Of this man's seed, according to the promise, hath God raised up to Israel Jesus the Saviour:

⁹ Wherefore God hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name above every name: ¹⁰ that in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of celestial beings, as well as of those on earth, and of those under the earth; ¹¹ and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

⁷ which were once gain to me, I counted loss for Christ. ⁸ Yea doubtless and I count all but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all, and I account them but dung, that I may gain Christ, and be found in Him, ⁹ not having my own righteousness which is of the law, but that which is by the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: that I may know Him, ¹⁰ and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable to his death; ¹¹ Wherein there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, slave, or free: but Christ is all and in all.

⁴ to whom coming as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen of God, ⁵ and precious, ye also are built up as living stones, a spiritual house, an holy priesthood to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. ⁶ Whence also it is said in scripture, Behold I lay in Sion a chief corner-stone, choice and precious: and he that confideth on it shall not be ashamed. ⁷ To you therefore who believe it is precious: but to them that are disobedient, the stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner,

¹² saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing. ¹³ And I heard every creature in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and on the sea, and all that are in them, saying, Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power be unto Him that sitteth upon the throne, and to the Lamb, for ever and ever. ¹⁴ And the four animals said, Amen: and the twenty four elders fell down and worshipped Him that liveth to endless ages.

³⁶ for David himself said by the holy Spirit, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand till I make thine enemies thy footstool.

²⁶ And it was revealed to him by the holy Spirit, that he should not die before he had seen the Anointed of the Lord. ²⁷ And he came by the influence of the Spirit into the temple, as his parents brought in the child Jesus to do concerning Him according to the custom of the law:

¹⁶ and said, Men and brethren, it was necessary that this scripture should be fulfilled, which the holy Ghost spake by the mouth of David, concerning Judas, who was guide to them that apprehended Jesus:

³⁰ Therefore being a prophet; and knowing that God had sworn to him with an oath, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up the Messiah, to sit on his throne; ³¹ foreseeing this he spake of the resurrection of Christ, when he said, that his soul was not left in the invisible state, nor did his flesh see corruption.

⁷ Therefore, as the holy Ghost saith, "To-day if ye will hear his voice,

²¹ for prophecy was not delivered of old at the will of man, but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the holy Spirit.

¹⁰ Here I was in the Spirit on the Lord's-day: and heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet,

² And immmediately I was in the Spirit: and behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sitting on the throne.

³⁴ For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he himself says, "The Lord said to my Lord, ³⁵ Sit thou at my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool."

² even to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, and called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is both their Lord and ours;

²⁵ For he must reign till He hath put all his enemies under his feet.

⁸ Yea doubtless and I count all but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all, and I account them but dung, that I may gain Christ, and be found in Him,

³ Who being the refulgence of his glory and the imprest image of his person, and sustaining all things by his powerful word, having by Himself performed the purging away of our sins, sat down at the right hand of the majesty on high.

¹³ But to which of the angels hath He ever said, "Sit thou at my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?"

¹² but He having offered one sacrifice for sins, is for ever sat down at the right hand of God; ¹³ waiting for the future, till his enemies be put under his feet.

² looking unto Jesus the leader and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

¹⁹ And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies gathered together to make war with him that sitteth upon the horse, and against his army.

¹¹ And I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled, and no place was found for them. ¹² And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged by the things written in the books, according to their works. ¹³ And the sea gave up the dead that were in it; and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them: and they were judged every one according to their works. ¹⁴ And death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire: this is the second death. ¹⁵ And whosoever was not found written in the book of life, was cast into the lake of fire.

⁵⁸ Jesus said unto them, Before Abraham was, I am.

³ who was of the seed of David according to the flesh, ⁴ but powerfully declared to be the Son of God, according to the spirit of holiness, by his resurrection from the dead, even Jesus Christ our Lord;

⁵ whose are the fathers, and of whom, as to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all God blessed for ever. Amen.

⁶ who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be as God. ⁷ Yet He emptied himself, assuming the form of a servant, when made in the likeness of men: ⁸ and being in the human state, He humbled himself, and was obedient even unto death, and that the death of the cross.

¹⁶ And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the Gentiles, believed on in the world, and received up into glory.

¹⁴ Seeing then the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He also himself in like manner partook of them; that by death He might destroy him that had the empire of death, that is, the devil:

¹⁶ I Jesus have sent my messenger to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am both the root and the offspring of David, the bright and morning star.

²⁷ And therefore in answer to Jesus, they said, We do not know: and He said unto them, Neither do I tell you, by what authority I do these things.

³⁴ And Jesus seeing that he answered discreetly, said to him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no one dared any more to put questions to Him.

¹⁷ Upon his saying this, all his adversaries were ashamed: but the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by Him.

⁶ and they were not able to answer Him again to these things.

⁴⁰ And they dared not any more to ask Him any such question.

⁷ And as they continued asking Him, He raised himself up and said unto them, "Let him that is without sin among you, first cast a stone at her." ⁸ Then He stooped down again and wrote on the ground. ⁹ But when they heard his answer, being convicted by their own conscience, they went out one by one, beginning at the elder, even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst of the people.

¹⁴ but seeing the man that was cured standing with them, they had nothing to say against it.
