And because of this, He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that, death having taken place for redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, those having been called might receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.
For where there is a will, it is necessary to establish the death of the one having made it.
For a will is affirmed after death, since it is not in force at the time when the one having made it is living,
wherefore neither has the first been inaugurated apart from blood.
For of every commandment having been spoken by Moses to all the people according to the Law, having taken the blood of calves and of goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, he sprinkled both the book itself and all the people,
saying, “This is the blood of the covenant, which God commanded unto you.”
And likewise he sprinkled also the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry with blood.
And almost all things are purified with blood according to the Law, and apart from blood-shedding there is no forgiveness.
Therefore it was necessary indeed for the representations of the things in the heavens to be purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
