Matthew 27:3-10

Goodspeed(i) 3 Then Judas who had betrayed him, when he saw that he had been condemned, in his remorse brought back the thirty silver pieces to the high priests and elders, 4 and said, "I did wrong when I handed an innocent man over to death!" They said, "What is that to us? You see to it yourself." 5 And he threw down the silver and left the Temple and went off and hung himself. 6 The high priests gathered up the money, and they said, "It is not legal to put this into the Temple treasury, for it is blood money." 7 So after consultation they bought with it the Potter's Field as a burial ground for strangers. 8 For this reason that piece of ground has ever since been called the Field of Blood. 9 So the words spoken by the prophet Jeremiah were fulfilled: "They took the thirty silver pieces, the price of the one whose price had been fixed, on whom some of the Israelites had set a price, 10 and gave them for the Potter's Field as the Lord directed me."
