Matthew(i) 1 The Lorde vysyted Sara as he had sayd & dyd vnto her acordyng as he had promysed. 2 And Sara was with chyld and bare Abraham a sonne in hys olde age euen the same season which the Lord had appoynted. 3 And Abraham called hys sonnes name that was borne vnto hym which Sara bare hym Isaac, 4 and Abraham circumcysed Isaac hys sonne when he was .viij. dayes olde, as God commaunded hym. 5 And Abraham was an hundred yere old, when his sonne Isaac was borne vnto him. 6 And Sara sayd: God hath made me a laughynge stocke: for al that heare, wyl laugh at me. 7 She sayde all so: who wold haue sayd vnto Abraham, that Sara shulde haue geuen children sucke, or that I shulde haue borne hym a sonne in his olde age: 8 The child grewe & was weaned, & Abraham made a great feast, the same daye that Isaac was weaned. 9 Sara sawe the sonne of Hagar the Egyptian whyche she had borne vnto Abraham, a mockynge. 10 Then she sayde vnto Abraham: put away this bondemaide & her sonne: for the sonne of this bondwoman shall not be heyre with my sonne Isaac: 11 But the wordes semed verey greauous in Abrahams syghte, because of his sonne. 12 Than the Lord sayd vnto Abraham: let it not be greauous vnto the, because of the ladd and of thy bondmayde: But in all that Sara hath sayde vnto the, heare her voyce, for in Isaac shall thy seed be called. 13 Moreouer of the sonne of the bondwoman wyll I make a nacion, because he is thy seed. 14 And Abraham rose vp early in the mornyng and toke brede & a bottel with water, & gaue it vnto Hagar, puttynge it on her shoulders wyth the lad also, and sent her awaye. And she departed and wandred vp and doune in the wyldernes of Berseba. 15 When the water was spent that was in the bottel, she cast the lad vnder a bush 16 and went & sat her out of syghte a great waye, as it were a bow shote of: for she said: I wyl not se the lad dye. And she sat doune out of syghte, and lyfte vp her voyce and wepte. 17 And God herde the voice of the chyld. And the angel of god called Hagar out of heauen and sayd vnto her: What ayleth the Hagar? Feare not, for god hath herde the voyce of the chyld where he lyeth. 18 Aryse and lyfte vp the lad, & take him in thy hande, for I wyl make of hym a greate people. 19 And God opened her eyes and she sawe a well of water. And she went & fylled the bottel wyth water, and gaue the boye drynke. 20 And God was wyth the lad, & he grewe and dwelt in the wildernesse, and became an archer. 21 And he dwelt in the wyldernesse of Pharan. And his mother got him a wyfe out of the land of Egypte. 22 And it chaunced the same season, that Abimelech and Phicol his chefe captaine spake vnto Abraham sayinge: God is with the in al that thou doyst. 23 Now therfore swere vnto me euen here by god, that thou wylt not hurt me nor my chyldren, nor my chyldrens chyldren. But that thou shalt deale wyth me & the contre where thou art a straunger, acordynge vnto the kyndnesse that I haue sheweth the. 24 Then sayd Abraham: I wyl swere. 25 And Abraham rebuked Abimelech for a well of water, whych Abimelechs seruauntes had taken awaye. 26 And Abimelech answered I wyst not who dyd it: Also thou toldest me not, nether herde I of it, but thys daye. 27 And Abraham toke shepe and oxen & gaue them vnto Abimelech. And they made both of them a bonde together. 28 And Abraham set .vij. lambes by them selues. 29 And Abimelech sayd vnto Abraham: what meane these .vij. lambes which thou hast set by them selues. 30 And he auswered .vij. lambes shalt thou take of my hand, that it maye be a wytnesse vnto me, that I haue dygged thys well: 31 Wherfore the place is called Berseba, because they sware both of them. 32 Thus made they a bonde to gether at Berseba. Than Abimelech & Phicol his chefe Captayne rose vp & turned agayne vnto the lande of the Philistines. 33 And Abraham planted a wood in Berseba, and called there on the name of the Lorde, the euerlastyng god: 34 and dwelt in the Philistins land a long season.
