Matthew 16:18-28

Moffatt(i) 18 Now I tell you, Peter is your name and on this rock I will build my church; the powers of Hades shall not succeed against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the Realm of heaven; whatever you prohibit on earth will be prohibited in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven." 20 Then he forbade the disciples to tell anyone he was the Christ. 21 From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he had to leave for Jerusalem and endure great suffering at the hands of the elders and high priests and scribes, and be killed and raised on the third day. 22 Peter took him and began to reprove him for it; "God forbid, Lord," he said, "This must not be." 23 But he turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, you Satan! You are a hindrance to me! Your outlook is not God's but man's." 24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone wishes to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me; 25 for whoever wants to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 26 What profit will it be if a man gains the whole world and forfeits his own soul? What will a man offer as an equivalent for his soul? 27 For the Son of man is coming in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he will reward everyone for what he has done. 28 I tell you truly, there are some of those standing here who will not taste death till they see the Son of man coming himself to reign."
