15 But Jeshurun grew fat, and kicked; you grew fat, thick and sated. And he abandoned God who made him, and fell away from the Rock of his salvation.
16 They provoked him to jealousy over foreigners and to anger over detestable things.
17 They sacrificed to demons, not God, to gods that they did not know, to new gods that came up of late, which your fathers did not dread.
18 "You ignored the rock that fathered you and forgot the God who gave you life.
19 The LORD saw it and became jealous, provoked by his sons and daughters.
20 He said, “I will hide my face from them. I will see what their end will be; for they are a very perverse generation, children in whom is no faithfulness.
21 They made me jealous with not God; They irritated me with their vanities: And I will make them jealous with not a people; With a foolish nation will I irritate them.
22 For a fire has been kindled in My anger, and it burns to the lowest Sheol, and consumes the earth and its produce; and sets on fire the foundations of the mountains.
23 I will heap evils upon them, and will spend my arrows among them.
24 While they are wasting by famine, and voracious birds; The burning carbuncle also shall be incurable; I will send against them the teeth of wild beasts, With the venom of serpents, trailing on the ground.
25 Outside the sword will bereave, and in the rooms, terror on both young man and virgin, the nursing infant with the gray-haired man.
26 I said: "I will scatter them, erasing their memory from the human race,
27 Were it not that I feared the wrath of the enemy, lest their adversaries should misunderstand, and lest they should say, Our hand has triumphed, and the LORD has not done all this.
