Luke 19

VIN(i) 1 Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 A man named Zacchaeus was there—he was a chief tax collector, and he was wealthy! 3 He tried to see who Jesus was. Being a short person he could not see over the crowd. 4 So he ran on ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see Him, since Jesus was about to pass that way. 5 But when Jesus reached the spot he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, come down at once, for I must stay at your house to-day." 6 He came down at once and welcomed him gladly. 7 But when they saw this, everyone began to mutter that he had gone to be the guest of a sinner. 8 Now Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, Behold, Lord, I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anyone of anything, I repay them quadruple. 9 Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man too is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came, to seek and to save what was lost. 11 Now while they were listening to these things, he went on and told a parable, because he was near Jerusalem and they thought that the kingdom of God was going to appear immediately. 12 So He said, “A man of noble birth went to a distant country to lay claim to his kingship and then return. 13 He called ten of his servants and gave them ten coins. He said to them, 'Invest this money until I come back.' 14 But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We do not want this man to rule over us.’ 15 When he returned from procuring his kingship, he summoned the servants to whom he had given the money, to find out what each one had earned. 16 The first servant came and said, 'Sir, your coin has earned ten more coins.' 17 "'Well done, good servant,' he replied; 'because you have been faithful in a very small matter, be in authority over ten towns.' 18 then the second came, and said, Lord, your pound has produc'd five more. 19 The king said to him, 'You take charge of five cities.' 20 Then another servant came and said, ‘Master, here is your mina, which I have laid away in a piece of cloth. 21 for I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man. You take up what you did not lay down, and reap what you did not sow.' 22 He said to him, 'I will judge you out of your own mouth, you wicked servant! You knew that I was a hard man, taking up what I did not lay down and reaping what I did not sow? 23 Why then didn’t you put my money on deposit, and upon coming I would have collected it with interest?’ 24 And he said to those standing by, 'Take the mina away from him, and give it to him who has ten minas.' 25 ‘Master,’ they said, ‘he already has ten!’ 26 'I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given. But from the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. 27 But those enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slay them before me.'" 28 After Jesus had said this, He went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. 29 When He approached Bethphage and Bethany by the hill called the Mount of Olives, He sent on two of His disciples, and 30 “Go to the village ahead of you,” He said. “As you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, 'Why are you untying it?' say to him: 'The Lord needs it.'" 32 So those who were sent went and found it just as he had told them. 33 While they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, "Why are you untying the colt?" 34 They said, "The Lord needs it." 35 They brought it to Jesus. They threw their cloaks on the colt, and set Jesus on them. 36 As He rode along, the people spread their cloaks on the road. 37 When he had almost reached the place where the road led down the Mount of Olives, every one of the many disciples began in their joy to praise God loudly for all the miracles that they had seen: 38 Blessed is the King that comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest! 39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, rebuke your disciples." 40 He replied, "I tell you, if they were quiet, the stones would cry out!" 41 As Jesus approached Jerusalem and saw the city, He wept over it 42 and said, “If only you had known on this day what would bring you peace! But now it is hidden from your eyes. 43 For the days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, and surround you and hem you in on every side, 44 They will level you to the ground—you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation from God.” 45 And he entered into the temple courts and began to drive out those who were selling, 46 "It is written," he told them, "my house shall be a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of robbers." 47 And He was teaching daily in the temple; but the chief priests and the scribes, as also the leaders of the people, were trying to destroy Him, 48 Yet they could not find a way to do so, because all the people hung on His words.
