Whiston(i)
30 Jesus answered, and said, This voice came, not because of me, but for your sakes.
31 Now is the judgment of the world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all things unto me.
33 But he said this signifing what death he should die.
34 The multitude answered him, We have heard out of the law, that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, that The Son of man must be lift up? Who is therefore this Son of man?
35 Jesus therefore said unto them, Yet a little while is the light among you: walk therefore while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
36 While ye have the light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.
37 But though he had done so many miracles before them, they believed not on him:
38 That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?
39 Therefore they could not believe, because Esaias said,
40 He hath blinded [them], that they should not see with [their] eyes, nor understand with [their] heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.
41 But these things said Esaias, when he saw the glory of God there, and spake of him.
42 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also, many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess [him], lest they should be put out of the synagogue.
43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
44 Jesus therefore cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.
45 He that seeth me, seeth him that sent me.
46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me, should not abide in darkness.
47 And if any one hear my words, and keep them not, I judge him not: for I came not that I might judge the world, but that I might save the world.
48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
49 For I have not spoken of my self; but the Father who sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
50 And I know that his commandment is life eternal: what therefore I speak, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
13 1 Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come, that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
2 And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Scarioth the Son of Simon that he should betray him.
3 He knowing that the Father had given him all things into [his] hands, and that he was come from God, and that he went to God.
4 He riseth from supper, and laid a side [his] garments, and took a towel, and girded himself.
5 After that, he taketh and poureth water into a bason, and began to wash his disciples feet, and to wipe [them] with the towel wherewith he was girded.
6 He cometh therefore to Simon Peter. He saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not yet, but thou shalt know hereafter.
8 Peter saith unto him, Lord, Thou shalt never wash [my] feet. Jesus answered, If I shall not wash thee, thou hast no part with me.
9 Peter saith unto him, Lord, not the feet only, but also the hands and the head.
10 Jesus saith unto him, he that is washed, needeth not to have his head washed, but his feet only, for he his clean all over, and ye are clean, but not all.
11 For Jesus knew who should betray him.
12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken [his] garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
13 Ye call me Master, and Lord: and ye say well; for I am.
14 If I then [your] Lord and Master, have washed your feet, how much more should ye do it:
15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
16 Verily, verily I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his Lord, neither he that is sent, greater than he that sent him.
17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.
18 I speak not of you all; I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me, hath lift up his heel against me.
19 Now I tell you before it come, that when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am [he].
20 Verily, verily I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send, receiveth me: and he that receiveth me, receiveth him that sent me.
21 When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily I say unto you, that one of you will betray me.
22 The disciples therefore looking one on another, doubted of whom he spake.
23 Now there was leaning on Jesus bosom, on of his disciples whom also Jesus loved.
24 Simon Peter therefore beckned to him, to ask who he should be of whom he spake.
25 He then lying on Jesus breast, saith unto him, Lord, who is he?
26 Jesus answereth him, and saith, He it is to whomsoever I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Scarioth [the son] of Simon.
27 And Satan entred into him. And Jesus saith unto him, What thou dost, do quickly.
28 But no one at the table knew why he spake this unto him.
29 For some thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things we have need of against the feast: or that he should give something to the poor.
32 God shalt also glorifie him in himself, and shall straightway glorifie him.
33 Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, that Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say unto you.
34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35 For by this shall all know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
36 He therefore having received the sop, went immediately out: and it was night,
36 Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus said to him, Whither I go thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow afterwards.
37 When therefore he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him:
37 He saith unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.
38 Jesus answered, Wilt thou lay down they life for my sake? Verily, verily I say unto thee, that The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.
14 1 And he said to his disciples, Let not your heart be troubled: Believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Fathers house are many mansions, But if not I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I shall go to prepare a place for you, I come again, and will receive you unto my self, that where I am, ye may be also.
4 And whither I go, ye know, and the way ye know.
5 Thomas who was called Didymus, saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest, and how do we know the way?
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
7 If ye had known me, ye would have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you; and yet hast thou not know me Philip? he that hath seen me, hath seen the Father; and how sayst thou, Shew us the Father?
10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I have spoken unto you, I spake not of my self: but the Father, that abideth in me, he doth his works.
11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe for the very works sake,
12 Verily, verily I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do, shall he do also, and greater than these shall he do; because I go unto the Father.
13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do [it].
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 The Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him, for he abideth with you, and is in you.
18 I will not leave you orphans: I come to you.
19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more: but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
20 In that day ye shall know, that I [am] in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.
21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father: and I will love him, and will manifest my self to him.
22 Judas saith unto him, not Scarioth, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thy self unto us, and not unto the world?
23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If any one love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and I will come unto him, and make my abode with him.
24 He that loveth me not, will not keep my sayings: and the word which you hear, is not mine, but his who sent me.
25 These things I have spoken unto you, being present with you.
26 But the Comforter, the Holy Ghost, whom my Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I shall say unto you.
27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
28 Ye have heard that I said unto you, I go away, and come unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoyce, because I go unto the Father: for the Father is greater than I.
29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that when it shall come to pass, ye might believe me.
30 Hereafter I will not talk many things to you: for the prince of the world cometh, and hath nothing to find in me.
31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as he commanded me, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
15 1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, he taketh it away: and every one that beareth fruit, he will purge it, that it may bear more fruit.
3 --
4 As the branch cannot bear fruit of it self, except it abide in the vine: so neither can ye, except ye abide in me.
5 For I am the vine, ye [are] the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, he bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye cannot do any [thing].
6 If any one abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and they gather it, and cast [it] into the fire, and it is burned.
7 But if ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatsoever ye will, and it shall be done.
8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit, so be ye my disciples.
9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: abide ye in my love.
10 If ye shall keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I also have kept my Fathers commandments, and abide in his love.
11 But these things have I spoken unto you, that my joy in you might remain, and your joy might be full.
12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
13 Greater love hath no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
14 For ye are my friends, if ye shall do what I command you.
15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father, I have made known unto you.
16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and appointed you, that you should go and bring forth much fruit, and your fruit should remain; that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
17 These things I command you, Love one another.
18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me first,
19 If ye were of the world, the world would love its own: Because ye were not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
20 Remember the words that I said unto you, my servant is not greater than his Lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you: if they have observed my saying, they will observe yours also.
21 But these things will they do unto you for my names sake, because they know not him that sent me.
22 If I had not come, and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin.
23 He that hateth me, hateth my Father also.
24 If I had not done among them the works which no one else had done, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen me, and hated me and my Father.
25 But that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, that They hated me without a cause.
26 But when the Comforter shall come, whom I will send unto you from my Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceedeth from my Father, he will testifie of me.
27 And bear ye witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.
16 1 These things have I spoken that ye should not be offended.
2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: But the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you, will think that he doth God service.
3 And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.
4 These things have I told you, that when the hour shall come, ye may remember them that I told you. And these things I said not unto you from the beginning, because I was with you.
5 But now I go to him that sent me, and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?
6 But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.
7 But I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
8 And when he is come, he will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgement:
9 Of sin indeed, because the believe not on me;
10 And of righteousness, because I go to the Father, and ye see me no more;
11 And of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
13 When he, the Spirit of truth shall come, he will guide you in all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, he will speak: and he will tell you things to come.
14 He will glorifie me, for he shall receive of mine and will shew it unto you.
15 All things that the Father hath, are mine: therefore said I, that he taketh of mine, and shall tell it unto you.
16 A little while and ye shall see me no longer; and again, in a little while, and ye shall see me, [Because I go to the Father].
17 Some of his disciples therefore said among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while and ye shall see me no longer: and again, a little while and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?
18 What is this? A little while? we cannot tell what he saith.
19 Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him about this Matter, and said unto them, Do you enquire among your selves about what I said, A little while and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while and ye shall see me?
20 Verily, verily I say unto you, that ye shall weep and lament; The world shall rejoyce. Ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
21 A woman when she is in travail, hath sorrow, because her day is come: but assoon as she has brought forth the child, she remembreth no more the sorrow, for joy that a man is born into the world.
22 And ye now therefore shall have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one taketh from you.
23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing: Verily, verily I say unto you, If ye shall ask the Father any thing in my name, he will give [it] you.
24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
25 These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs, The hour cometh when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall tell you plainly of the Father.
26 In that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will ask my Father concerning you:
27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from the Father.
28 I came forth from the Father, and am come unto the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.
29 His disciples say unto him, lo, now thou speakest plainly, and speakest no proverb.
30 Now we know that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any one should ask thee; by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.
31 He answered them, Do ye now believe?
32 Behold the hour cometh, yea, is come, that ye shall be scattered, every one to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye may have peace. In the world ye have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
