¹ Ὅλως (Actually) ἀκούεται (is reported) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you) πορνεία (sexual immorality), καὶ (and) τοιαύτη (such) πορνεία (sexual immorality) ἥτις (as) οὐδὲ (not even) ἐν (among) τοῖς (the) ἔθνεσιν (pagans), ὥστε (so as for) γυναῖκά (the wife) τινα (one) τοῦ (of the) πατρὸς (father) ἔχειν (to have). ² καὶ (And) ὑμεῖς (you) πεφυσιωμένοι (puffed up) ἐστέ (are), καὶ (and) οὐχὶ (not) μᾶλλον (rather) ἐπενθήσατε (have mourned), ἵνα (so that) ἀρθῇ (might be taken) ἐκ (out of) μέσου (midst) ὑμῶν (of you) ὁ (the one) τὸ (the) ἔργον (deed) τοῦτο (this) πράξας (having done)! ³ Ἐγὼ (I) μὲν (indeed), γάρ (though) ἀπὼν (being absent) τῷ (-) σώματι (in body), παρὼν (being present) δὲ (now) τῷ (-) πνεύματι (in spirit), ἤδη (already) κέκρικα (have judged) ὡς (as) παρὼν (being present) τὸν (the one) οὕτως (so) τοῦτο (this) κατεργασάμενον (having produced), ⁴ ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ‹ἡμῶν› (our) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) συναχθέντων (having been gathered together) ὑμῶν (you), καὶ (and) τοῦ (-) ἐμοῦ (of me) πνεύματος (in spirit), σὺν (with) τῇ (the) δυνάμει (power) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), ⁵ παραδοῦναι (to deliver) τὸν (-) τοιοῦτον (such a one) τῷ (-) Σατανᾷ (to Satan) εἰς (for) ὄλεθρον (destruction) τῆς (of the) σαρκός (flesh), ἵνα (so that) τὸ (the) πνεῦμα (spirit) σωθῇ (may be saved) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord). ⁶ Οὐ (Not) καλὸν (good is) τὸ (the) καύχημα (boasting) ὑμῶν (of you). οὐκ (Not) οἴδατε (know you) ὅτι (that) μικρὰ (a little) ζύμη (leaven) ὅλον (all) τὸ (the) φύραμα (lump) ζυμοῖ (leavens)? ⁷ ἐκκαθάρατε (Cleanse out) τὴν (the) παλαιὰν (old) ζύμην (leaven), ἵνα (that) ἦτε (you may be) νέον (a new) φύραμα (lump), καθώς (as) ἐστε (you are), ἄζυμοι (unleavened). καὶ (Also) γὰρ (for) τὸ (the) πάσχα (Passover lamb) ἡμῶν (of us) ἐτύθη (has been sacrificed), Χριστός (Christ), ⁸ ὥστε (so that) ἑορτάζωμεν (we might celebrate the feast), μὴ (not) ἐν (with) ζύμῃ (leaven) παλαιᾷ (old), μηδὲ (not) ἐν (with) ζύμῃ (leaven) κακίας (of malice) καὶ (and) πονηρίας (wickedness), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐν (with) ἀζύμοις (unleavened bread) εἰλικρινείας (of sincerity) καὶ (and) ἀληθείας (of truth). ⁹ Ἔγραψα (I wrote) ὑμῖν (to you) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἐπιστολῇ (letter) μὴ (not) συναναμίγνυσθαι (to associate with) πόρνοις (the sexually immoral), ¹⁰ οὐ (not) πάντως (altogether) τοῖς (with the) πόρνοις (sexually immoral) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) τούτου (of this), ἢ (or) τοῖς (with the) πλεονέκταις (covetous) καὶ (and) ἅρπαξιν (swindlers), ἢ (or) εἰδωλολάτραις (idolaters) — ἐπεὶ (since) ὠφείλετε (you would need) ἄρα (then) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) ἐξελθεῖν (to depart). ¹¹ νῦν (Now) δὲ (however), ἔγραψα (I wrote) ὑμῖν (to you) μὴ (not) συναναμίγνυσθαι (to associate with him) ἐάν (if) τις (anyone) ἀδελφὸς (a brother) ὀνομαζόμενος (being designated), ᾖ (he is) πόρνος (sexually immoral) ἢ (or) πλεονέκτης (a coveter), ἢ (or) εἰδωλολάτρης (an idolater) ἢ (or) λοίδορος (verbal abuser), ἢ (or) μέθυσος (a drunkard), ἢ (or) ἅρπαξ (swindler) — τῷ (with) τοιούτῳ (such a one) μηδὲ (not even) συνεσθίειν (to eat). ¹² Τί (What) γάρ (for) μοι (is it to me) τοὺς (those) ἔξω (outside) κρίνειν (to judge)? οὐχὶ (Not) τοὺς (those) ἔσω (within) ὑμεῖς (you) κρίνετε (do judge)? ¹³ τοὺς (Those) δὲ (however) ἔξω (outside) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) κρίνει (will judge). “Ἐξάρατε (Expel) τὸν (the) πονηρὸν (evil) ἐξ (out from) ὑμῶν (yourselves) αὐτῶν (that).”

²⁰ ἀλλὰ (but) ἐπιστεῖλαι (to write) αὐτοῖς (to them) τοῦ (-) ἀπέχεσθαι (to abstain from) τῶν (the) ἀλισγημάτων (pollutions) τῶν (of the) εἰδώλων (idols), καὶ (and) τῆς (-) πορνείας (sexual immorality), καὶ (and) ‹τοῦ› (that) πνικτοῦ (which is strangled), καὶ (and) τοῦ (from) αἵματος (blood).

²⁹ ἀπέχεσθαι (to abstain) εἰδωλοθύτων (from things sacrificed to idols), καὶ (and) αἵματος (from blood), καὶ (and) πνικτῶν (from what is strangled), καὶ (and) πορνείας (from sexual immorality). ἐξ (From) ὧν (these) διατηροῦντες (keeping) ἑαυτοὺς (yourselves), εὖ (well) πράξετε (you will do). Ἔρρωσθε (Farewell).”

¹¹ ἐδηλώθη (It was shown) γάρ (for) μοι (to me) περὶ (concerning) ὑμῶν (you), ἀδελφοί (brothers) μου (of me), ὑπὸ (by) τῶν (those) Χλόης (of Chloe), ὅτι (that) ἔριδες (quarrels) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you) εἰσιν (there are).

¹¹ νῦν (Now) δὲ (however), ἔγραψα (I wrote) ὑμῖν (to you) μὴ (not) συναναμίγνυσθαι (to associate with him) ἐάν (if) τις (anyone) ἀδελφὸς (a brother) ὀνομαζόμενος (being designated), ᾖ (he is) πόρνος (sexually immoral) ἢ (or) πλεονέκτης (a coveter), ἢ (or) εἰδωλολάτρης (an idolater) ἢ (or) λοίδορος (verbal abuser), ἢ (or) μέθυσος (a drunkard), ἢ (or) ἅρπαξ (swindler) — τῷ (with) τοιούτῳ (such a one) μηδὲ (not even) συνεσθίειν (to eat).

⁹ Ἢ (Or) οὐκ (not) οἴδατε (know you) ὅτι (that) ἄδικοι (the unrighteous ones) Θεοῦ (of God) βασιλείαν (the kingdom) οὐ (not) κληρονομήσουσιν (will inherit)? μὴ (Not) πλανᾶσθε (be deceived): οὔτε (neither) πόρνοι (the sexually immoral), οὔτε (nor) εἰδωλολάτραι (idolaters), οὔτε (nor) μοιχοὶ (adulterers), οὔτε (nor) μαλακοὶ (effeminate), οὔτε (nor) ἀρσενοκοῖται (homosexuals),

¹³ “Τὰ (The) βρώματα (foods) τῇ (for the) κοιλίᾳ (belly) καὶ (and) ἡ (the) κοιλία (belly) τοῖς (the) βρώμασιν (for foods),” ὁ (-) δὲ (but) Θεὸς (God) καὶ (both) ταύτην (this) καὶ (and) ταῦτα (these) καταργήσει (will destroy); τὸ (-) δὲ (and) σῶμα (the body is) οὐ (not) τῇ (-) πορνείᾳ (for sexual immorality), ἀλλὰ (but) τῷ (for the) Κυρίῳ (Lord), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) τῷ (for the) σώματι (body).

¹⁸ Φεύγετε (Flee) τὴν (-) πορνείαν (sexual immorality). πᾶν (Every) ἁμάρτημα (sin), ὃ (whatever) ἐὰν (if) ποιήσῃ (might do) ἄνθρωπος (a man), ἐκτὸς (outside) τοῦ (the) σώματός (body) ἐστιν (is); ὁ (the one) δὲ (however) πορνεύων (sinning sexually), εἰς (against) τὸ (the) ἴδιον (own) σῶμα (body) ἁμαρτάνει (sins).

¹² ἄρα (So) εἰ (if) καὶ (even) ἔγραψα (I wrote) ὑμῖν (to you), οὐχ (it was not) ἕνεκεν (for the sake of) τοῦ (the one) ἀδικήσαντος (having done wrong), οὐδὲ (nor) ἕνεκεν (for the sake of) τοῦ (the one) ἀδικηθέντος (having suffered wrong), ἀλλ’ (but rather) ἕνεκεν (for the sake of) τοῦ (-) φανερωθῆναι (being revealed) τὴν (the) σπουδὴν (earnestness) ὑμῶν (of you), τὴν (which is) ὑπὲρ (for) ἡμῶν (us) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God).

²¹ μὴ (lest) πάλιν (again) ἐλθόντος (having come) μου (of me), ταπεινώσῃ (should humble) με (me) ὁ (the) Θεός (God) μου (of me) πρὸς (as to) ὑμᾶς (you), καὶ (and) πενθήσω (I should mourn over) πολλοὺς (many) τῶν (of those) προημαρτηκότων (having before sinned) καὶ (and) μὴ (not) μετανοησάντων (having repented) ἐπὶ (of) τῇ (the) ἀκαθαρσίᾳ (impurity) καὶ (and) πορνείᾳ (sexual immorality) καὶ (and) ἀσελγείᾳ (sensuality) ᾗ (that) ἔπραξαν (they have practiced).

¹⁹ Φανερὰ (Evident) δέ (now) ἐστιν (are) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) τῆς (of the) σαρκός (flesh), ἅτινά (which) ἐστιν (are) πορνεία (sexual immorality), ἀκαθαρσία (impurity), ἀσέλγεια (sensuality),

³ Πορνεία (Sexual immorality) δὲ (however), καὶ (and) ἀκαθαρσία (impurity) πᾶσα (all), ἢ (or) πλεονεξία (covetousness), μηδὲ (not even) ὀνομαζέσθω (let be named) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you), καθὼς (as also) πρέπει (is proper) ἁγίοις (to saints),

⁵ Νεκρώσατε (Put to death) οὖν (therefore) τὰ (the) μέλη (members) τὰ (which are) ἐπὶ (upon) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth): πορνείαν (sexual immorality), ἀκαθαρσίαν (impurity), πάθος (passion), ἐπιθυμίαν (desire) κακήν (evil), καὶ (and) τὴν (-) πλεονεξίαν (covetousness), ἥτις (which) ἐστὶν (is) εἰδωλολατρία (idolatry),

⁷ οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ἐκάλεσεν (has called) ἡμᾶς (us) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἐπὶ (to) ἀκαθαρσίᾳ (impurity), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐν (into) ἁγιασμῷ (holiness).

²¹ καὶ (And) ἔδωκα (I have given) αὐτῇ (her) χρόνον (time) ἵνα (that) μετανοήσῃ (she might repent), καὶ (and) οὐ (not) θέλει (she is willing) μετανοῆσαι (to repent) ἐκ (of) τῆς (the) πορνείας (sexual immorality) αὐτῆς (of her).

⁸ Τοῖς (-) δὲ (But) δειλοῖς (to the cowardly) καὶ (and) ἀπίστοις (unbelieving) καὶ (and) ἐβδελυγμένοις (having become abominable) καὶ (and) φονεῦσιν (murderers) καὶ (and) πόρνοις (the sexually immoral) καὶ (and) φαρμάκοις (sorcerers) καὶ (and) εἰδωλολάτραις (idolaters) καὶ (and) πᾶσιν (all) τοῖς (-) ψευδέσιν (liars), τὸ (the) μέρος (portion) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐν (is in) τῇ (the) λίμνῃ (lake) τῇ (-) καιομένῃ (burning) πυρὶ (with fire) καὶ (and) θείῳ (brimstone), ὅ (which) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) θάνατος (death) ὁ (-) δεύτερος (second).”

⁶ Ταῦτα (These things) δέ (now), ἀδελφοί (brothers), μετεσχημάτισα (I have applied) εἰς (to) ἐμαυτὸν (myself) καὶ (and) Ἀπολλῶν (Apollos) δι’ (on account of) ὑμᾶς (you), ἵνα (so that) ἐν (in) ἡμῖν (us) μάθητε (you may learn) τό (-), “Μὴ (not) ὑπὲρ (beyond) ἃ (what) γέγραπται (has been written),” ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) εἷς (one) ὑπὲρ (for) τοῦ (-) ἑνὸς (one) φυσιοῦσθε (you be puffed up) κατὰ (over) τοῦ (the) ἑτέρου (other). ⁷ τίς (Who) γάρ (for) σε (you) διακρίνει (makes different)? τί (What) δὲ (now) ἔχεις (have you) ὃ (which) οὐκ (not) ἔλαβες (you did receive)? εἰ (If) δὲ (now) καὶ (also) ἔλαβες (you did receive it), τί (why) καυχᾶσαι (boast you) ὡς (as) μὴ (not) λαβών (having received it)? ⁸ ἤδη (Already) κεκορεσμένοι (satiated) ἐστέ (you are); ἤδη (already) ἐπλουτήσατε (you have been enriched); χωρὶς (apart from) ἡμῶν (us) ἐβασιλεύσατε (you reigned), καὶ (and) ὄφελόν (I wish that) γε (really) ἐβασιλεύσατε (you did reign), ἵνα (so that) καὶ (also) ἡμεῖς (we) ὑμῖν (you) συμβασιλεύσωμεν* (might reign with).

¹⁸ Ὡς (As to) μὴ (not) ἐρχομένου (coming) δέ (now) μου (of me) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you), ἐφυσιώθησάν (have become puffed up) τινες (some).

⁷ οὐ (not) μόνον (only) δὲ (now) ἐν (by) τῇ (the) παρουσίᾳ (coming) αὐτοῦ (of him), ἀλλὰ (but) καὶ (also) ἐν (by) τῇ (the) παρακλήσει (comfort) ᾗ (with which) παρεκλήθη (he was comforted) ἐφ’ (as to) ὑμῖν (you); ἀναγγέλλων (relating) ἡμῖν (to us) τὴν (-) ὑμῶν (your) ἐπιπόθησιν (earnest desire), τὸν (-) ὑμῶν (your) ὀδυρμόν (mourning), τὸν (-) ὑμῶν (your) ζῆλον (zeal) ὑπὲρ (for) ἐμοῦ (me), ὥστε (so as) με (for me) μᾶλλον (the more) χαρῆναι (to rejoice). ⁸ Ὅτι (For) εἰ (if) καὶ (also) ἐλύπησα (I have grieved) ὑμᾶς (you) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἐπιστολῇ (letter), οὐ (not) μεταμέλομαι (I do regret it). εἰ (Though) καὶ (even) μετεμελόμην (I did regret it); βλέπω (I see) [γὰρ] (indeed) ὅτι (that) ἡ (the) ἐπιστολὴ (letter) ἐκείνη (that), εἰ (if) καὶ (even) πρὸς (for) ὥραν (an hour), ἐλύπησεν (grieved) ὑμᾶς (you). ⁹ νῦν (Now) χαίρω (I rejoice), οὐχ (not) ὅτι (that) ἐλυπήθητε (you were grieved), ἀλλ’ (but) ὅτι (that) ἐλυπήθητε (you were grieved) εἰς (unto) μετάνοιαν (repentance); ἐλυπήθητε (you were grieved) γὰρ (for) κατὰ (according to) Θεόν (God), ἵνα (so that) ἐν (in) μηδενὶ (nothing) ζημιωθῆτε (you might suffer loss) ἐξ (through) ἡμῶν (us). ¹⁰ ἡ (The) γὰρ (for), κατὰ (according to) Θεὸν (God) λύπη (grief), μετάνοιαν (repentance) εἰς (to) σωτηρίαν (salvation) ἀμεταμέλητον (without regret) ἐργάζεται (produces); ἡ (-) δὲ (and) τοῦ (the of the) κόσμου (world) λύπη (grief), θάνατον (death) κατεργάζεται (produces). ¹¹ Ἰδοὺ (Behold) γὰρ (for), αὐτὸ (this very) τοῦτο (same) τὸ (thing), κατὰ (according to) Θεὸν (God) λυπηθῆναι (to have been grieved), πόσην (how much) κατειργάσατο (has produced) ὑμῖν (in you) σπουδήν (earnestness), ἀλλὰ (but instead) ἀπολογίαν (reasoned defense), ἀλλὰ (but) ἀγανάκτησιν (indignation), ἀλλὰ (but) φόβον (fear), ἀλλὰ (but) ἐπιπόθησιν (longing), ἀλλὰ (but) ζῆλον (zeal), ἀλλὰ (but) ἐκδίκησιν (vindication)! ἐν (In) παντὶ (everything), συνεστήσατε (you have proved) ἑαυτοὺς (yourselves) ἁγνοὺς (innocent) εἶναι (to be) τῷ (in this) πράγματι (matter).

²⁰ Ἀλλὰ (But) ἔχω (I have) κατὰ (against) σοῦ (you) ὅτι (that) ἀφεῖς (you tolerate) τὴν (the) γυναῖκα (woman) Ἰεζάβελ (Jezebel), ἡ (the one) λέγουσα (calling) ἑαυτὴν (herself) προφῆτιν (a prophetess) καὶ (and) διδάσκει (teaching) καὶ (and) πλανᾷ (misleading) τοὺς (-) ἐμοὺς (My) δούλους (servants) πορνεῦσαι (to commit sexual immorality), καὶ (and) φαγεῖν (to eat) εἰδωλόθυτα (things sacrificed to idols). ²¹ καὶ (And) ἔδωκα (I have given) αὐτῇ (her) χρόνον (time) ἵνα (that) μετανοήσῃ (she might repent), καὶ (and) οὐ (not) θέλει (she is willing) μετανοῆσαι (to repent) ἐκ (of) τῆς (the) πορνείας (sexual immorality) αὐτῆς (of her). ²² Ἰδοὺ (Behold), βάλλω (I will cast) αὐτὴν (her) εἰς (into) κλίνην (a sickbed), καὶ (and) τοὺς (those) μοιχεύοντας (committing adultery) μετ’ (with) αὐτῆς (her) εἰς (into) θλῖψιν (tribulation) μεγάλην (great), ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) μετανοήσωσιν* (they shall repent) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) ἔργων (deeds) αὐτῆς (of her).

¹ Αὐτὸς (Myself) δὲ (now) ἐγὼ (I), Παῦλος (Paul), παρακαλῶ (exhort) ὑμᾶς (you) διὰ (by) τῆς (the) πραΰτητος (meekness) καὶ (and) ἐπιεικείας (gentleness) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), ὃς (who) κατὰ (as to) πρόσωπον (appearance) μὲν (indeed) ταπεινὸς (am humble) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you), ἀπὼν (being absent) δὲ (however) θαρρῶ (am bold) εἰς (toward) ὑμᾶς (you).

¹¹ τοῦτο (This) λογιζέσθω (let reckon) ὁ (-) τοιοῦτος (such a one), ὅτι (that) οἷοί (such as) ἐσμεν (we are) τῷ (-) λόγῳ (in word) δι’ (by) ἐπιστολῶν (letters) ἀπόντες (being absent), τοιοῦτοι (such we are) καὶ (also) παρόντες (being present) τῷ (-) ἔργῳ (in action).

² Προείρηκα (I have warned) καὶ (and) προλέγω (I warn), ὡς (as) παρὼν (being present) τὸ (the) δεύτερον (second time), καὶ (and) ἀπὼν (being absent) νῦν (now) τοῖς (those) προημαρτηκόσιν (having sinned before), καὶ (and) τοῖς (the) λοιποῖς (rest) πᾶσιν (all), ὅτι (that) ἐὰν (if) ἔλθω (I come) εἰς (to) τὸ (the same) πάλιν (again), οὐ (not) φείσομαι (I will spare anyone),

⁵ εἰ (If) γὰρ (truly) καὶ (indeed) τῇ (in the) σαρκὶ (flesh) ἄπειμι (I am absent), ἀλλὰ (yet) τῷ (-) πνεύματι (in spirit) σὺν (with) ὑμῖν (you) εἰμι (I am), χαίρων (rejoicing) καὶ (and) βλέπων (seeing) ὑμῶν (your) τὴν (-) τάξιν (good order) καὶ (and) τὸ (the) στερέωμα (firmness) τῆς (of the) εἰς (in) Χριστὸν (Christ) πίστεως (faith) ὑμῶν (of you).

¹⁷ Ἡμεῖς (We) δέ (however), ἀδελφοί (brothers), ἀπορφανισθέντες (having been bereaved) ἀφ’ (of) ὑμῶν (you) πρὸς (for) καιρὸν (the time) ὥρας (of an hour), προσώπῳ (in face), οὐ (not) καρδίᾳ (in heart), περισσοτέρως (more abundantly) ἐσπουδάσαμεν (were eager) τὸ (the) πρόσωπον (face) ὑμῶν (of you) ἰδεῖν (to see) ἐν (with) πολλῇ (great) ἐπιθυμίᾳ (desire).

¹⁹ δώσω (I will give) σοι (to you) τὰς (the) κλεῖδας (keys) τῆς (of the) βασιλείας (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens); καὶ (and) ὃ (whatever) ἐὰν (if) δήσῃς (you might bind) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), ἔσται (will be) δεδεμένον (bound) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) οὐρανοῖς (heavens); καὶ (and) ὃ (whatever) ἐὰν (if) λύσῃς (you might loose) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), ἔσται (will be) λελυμένον (loosed) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) οὐρανοῖς (heavens).”

¹⁶ ἐὰν (If) δὲ (however) μὴ (not) ἀκούσῃ (he will hear), παράλαβε (take) μετὰ (with) σοῦ (you) ἔτι (more), ἕνα (one) ἢ (or) δύο (two), ἵνα (that) ‘Ἐπὶ (upon) στόματος (the testimony) δύο (of two) μαρτύρων (witnesses) ἢ (or) τριῶν (of three), σταθῇ (may be strengthened) πᾶν (every) ῥῆμα (word).’ ¹⁷ ἐὰν (If) δὲ (now) παρακούσῃ (he fails to listen) αὐτῶν (to them), εἰπὸν (tell it) τῇ (to the) ἐκκλησίᾳ (church). ἐὰν (If) δὲ (now) καὶ (also) τῆς (to the) ἐκκλησίας (church) παρακούσῃ (he fails to listen), ἔστω (let him be) σοι (to you) ὥσπερ (as) ὁ (the) ἐθνικὸς (pagan) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) τελώνης (tax collector). ¹⁸ Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ὅσα (how many) ἐὰν (if) δήσητε (you shall bind) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), ἔσται (shall have been) δεδεμένα (bound) ἐν (in) οὐρανῷ (heaven); καὶ (and) ὅσα (how many) ἐὰν (if) λύσητε (you shall loose) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), ἔσται (shall have been) λελυμένα (loosed) ἐν (in) οὐρανῷ (heaven).

²⁰ οὗ (Where) γάρ (for) εἰσιν (are) δύο (two) ἢ (or) τρεῖς (three) συνηγμένοι (gathered together) εἰς (unto) τὸ (-) ἐμὸν (My) ὄνομα (name), ἐκεῖ (there) εἰμι (am I) ἐν (in) μέσῳ (the midst) αὐτῶν (of them).”

¹⁸ Καὶ (And) προσελθὼν (having come to them), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐλάλησεν (spoke) αὐτοῖς (to them), λέγων (saying), “Ἐδόθη (Has been given) μοι (to Me) πᾶσα (all) ἐξουσία (authority) ἐν (in) οὐρανῷ (heaven) καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth).

²⁰ διδάσκοντες (teaching) αὐτοὺς (them) τηρεῖν (to observe) πάντα (all things), ὅσα (whatever) ἐνετειλάμην (I commanded) ὑμῖν (you). καὶ (And) ἰδοὺ (behold), ἐγὼ (I) μεθ’ (with) ὑμῶν (you) εἰμι (am) πάσας (all) τὰς (the) ἡμέρας (days), ἕως (until) τῆς (the) συντελείας (completion) τοῦ (of the) αἰῶνος (age).”

²³ ἄν (If) τινων (of any), ἀφῆτε (you might forgive) τὰς (the) ἁμαρτίας (sins), ἀφέωνται (they are forgiven) αὐτοῖς (them); ἄν (If) τινων (any) κρατῆτε (you might retain), κεκράτηνται (they are retained).”

⁶ εἶπεν (Said) δὲ (however) Πέτρος (Peter), “Ἀργύριον (Silver) καὶ (and) χρυσίον (gold) οὐχ (none) ὑπάρχει (there is) μοι (to me); ὃ (what) δὲ (however) ἔχω (I have), τοῦτό (this) σοι (to you) δίδωμι (I give): ἐν (In) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) τοῦ (of) Ναζωραίου (Nazareth), [ἔγειρε (rise up) καὶ] (and) περιπάτει (walk)!”

⁷ καὶ (And) στήσαντες (having placed) αὐτοὺς (them) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) μέσῳ (midst), ἐπυνθάνοντο (they began to inquire), “Ἐν (In) ποίᾳ (what) δυνάμει (power) ἢ (or) ἐν (in) ποίῳ (what) ὀνόματι (name) ἐποιήσατε (did) τοῦτο (this) ὑμεῖς (you)?” ⁸ Τότε (Then) Πέτρος (Peter), πλησθεὶς (having been filled) Πνεύματος (with the Spirit) Ἁγίου (Holy), εἶπεν (said) πρὸς (to) αὐτούς (them), “Ἄρχοντες (Rulers) τοῦ (of the) λαοῦ (people) καὶ (and) πρεσβύτεροι (elders), ⁹ εἰ (if) ἡμεῖς (we) σήμερον (this day) ἀνακρινόμεθα (are being examined) ἐπὶ (as to) εὐεργεσίᾳ (a good work) ἀνθρώπου (to the man) ἀσθενοῦς (ailing), ἐν (by) τίνι (what means) οὗτος (he) σέσωσται (has been healed), ¹⁰ γνωστὸν (known) ἔστω (let it be) πᾶσιν (to all) ὑμῖν (you) καὶ (and) παντὶ (to all) τῷ (the) λαῷ (people) Ἰσραὴλ (of Israel) ὅτι (that) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) τοῦ (of) Ναζωραίου (Nazareth), ὃν (whom) ὑμεῖς (you) ἐσταυρώσατε (crucified), ὃν (whom) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἤγειρεν (raised) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead), ἐν (in) τούτῳ (Him) οὗτος (this man) παρέστηκεν (stands) ἐνώπιον (before) ὑμῶν (you) ὑγιής (sound). ¹¹ οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ‘Ὁ (the) λίθος (stone) ὁ (-) ἐξουθενηθεὶς (having been rejected) ὑφ’ (by) ὑμῶν (you), τῶν (the) οἰκοδόμων (builders), ὁ (which) γενόμενος (has become) εἰς (into) κεφαλὴν (head) γωνίας (of the corner).’ ¹² Καὶ (And) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (there is) ἐν (in) ἄλλῳ (other) οὐδενὶ (no one) ἡ (the) σωτηρία (salvation), οὐδὲ (not) γὰρ (for) ὄνομά (name) ἐστιν (is there) ἕτερον (another) ὑπὸ (under) τὸν (-) οὐρανὸν (heaven) τὸ (-) δεδομένον (having been given) ἐν (among) ἀνθρώποις (men) ἐν (by) ᾧ (which) δεῖ (it behooves) σωθῆναι (to be saved) ἡμᾶς (us).”

³⁰ ἐν (in) τῷ (that) τὴν (the) χεῖρά (hand) ‹σου› (of You) ἐκτείνειν (stretch out) σε (You) εἰς (for) ἴασιν (healing), καὶ (and) σημεῖα (signs) καὶ (and) τέρατα (wonders) γίνεσθαι (to take place), διὰ (through) τοῦ (the) ὀνόματος (name) τοῦ (of the) ἁγίου (holy) Παιδός (servant) σου (of You), Ἰησοῦ (Jesus).”

¹⁸ Τοῦτο (This) δὲ (then) ἐποίει (she continued) ἐπὶ (for) πολλὰς (many) ἡμέρας (days). διαπονηθεὶς (Having been distressed) δὲ (then) Παῦλος (Paul), καὶ (and) ἐπιστρέψας (having turned) τῷ (to the) πνεύματι (spirit), εἶπεν (he said), “Παραγγέλλω (I command) σοι (you) ἐν (in) ὀνόματι (the name) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) ἐξελθεῖν (to come out) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτῆς (her).” καὶ (And) ἐξῆλθεν (it came out) αὐτῇ (the same) τῇ (-) ὥρᾳ (hour).

⁹ Εἰς (For) τοῦτο (this) γὰρ (indeed) καὶ (also) ἔγραψα (did I write), ἵνα (so that) γνῶ (I might know) τὴν (the) δοκιμὴν (proof) ὑμῶν (of you), εἰ (whether) εἰς (to) πάντα (everything) ὑπήκοοί (obedient) ἐστε (you are). ¹⁰ ᾧ (To whomever) δέ (now) τι (anything) χαρίζεσθε (you forgive), κἀγώ (I also); καὶ (and) γὰρ (for) ἐγὼ (I), ὃ (to whom) κεχάρισμαι (I have forgiven), εἴ (if) τι (anything) κεχάρισμαι (I have forgiven), δι’ (it is for the sake of) ὑμᾶς (you) ἐν (in) προσώπῳ (the person) Χριστοῦ (of Christ),

³ ἐπεὶ (since) δοκιμὴν (a proof) ζητεῖτε (you seek), τοῦ (-) ἐν (in) ἐμοὶ (me) λαλοῦντος (speaking) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), ὃς (who) εἰς (toward) ὑμᾶς (you) οὐκ (not) ἀσθενεῖ (is weak), ἀλλὰ (but) δυνατεῖ (is powerful) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you).

¹⁰ Διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (therefore) ταῦτα (these things), ἀπὼν (being absent) γράφω (I write), ἵνα (so that) παρὼν (being present), μὴ (not) ἀποτόμως (with severity) χρήσωμαι (I should treat you), κατὰ (according to) τὴν (the) ἐξουσίαν (authority) ἣν (that) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) ἔδωκέν (has given) μοι (me), εἰς (for) οἰκοδομὴν (building up) καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) εἰς (for) καθαίρεσιν (tearing down).

²⁰ εὐχαριστοῦντες (giving thanks) πάντοτε (at all times) ὑπὲρ (for) πάντων (all things) ἐν (in) ὀνόματι (the name) τοῦ (the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) τῷ (to the) Θεῷ (God) καὶ (and) Πατρί (Father).

¹⁷ καὶ (And) πᾶν (everything), ὅ (which) τι (what) ἐὰν (if) ποιῆτε (you might do) ἐν (in) λόγῳ (word) ἢ (or) ἐν (in) ἔργῳ (deed), πάντα (all) ἐν (in) ὀνόματι (the name) Κυρίου (of the Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), εὐχαριστοῦντες (giving thanks) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God) Πατρὶ (the Father) δι’ (through) αὐτοῦ (Him).

⁶ Παραγγέλλομεν (We command) δὲ (now) ὑμῖν (you), ἀδελφοί (brothers), ἐν (in) ὀνόματι (the name) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ‹ἡμῶν› (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), στέλλεσθαι (are to withdraw) ὑμᾶς (you) ἀπὸ (from) παντὸς (every) ἀδελφοῦ (brother) ἀτάκτως (idly) περιπατοῦντος (walking) καὶ (and) μὴ (not) κατὰ (according to) τὴν (the) παράδοσιν (tradition) ἣν (that) παρελάβοσαν* (you received) παρ’ (from) ἡμῶν (us).

¹⁸ ἀνοῖξαι (to open) ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) αὐτῶν (of them), τοῦ (that) ἐπιστρέψαι (they may turn) ἀπὸ (from) σκότους (darkness) εἰς (to) φῶς (light), καὶ (and) τῆς (from the) ἐξουσίας (power) τοῦ (-) Σατανᾶ (of Satan) ἐπὶ (to) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God), τοῦ (that) λαβεῖν (may receive) αὐτοὺς (they) ἄφεσιν (forgiveness) ἁμαρτιῶν (of sins) καὶ (and) κλῆρον (an inheritance) ἐν (among) τοῖς (those) ἡγιασμένοις (having been sanctified) πίστει (by faith) τῇ (that is) εἰς (in) ἐμέ (Me).’

⁸ ὃς (who) καὶ (also) βεβαιώσει (will sustain) ὑμᾶς (you) ἕως (to the) τέλους (end), ἀνεγκλήτους (blameless) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ).

³² κρινόμενοι (Being judged) δὲ (however) ὑπὸ (by) τοῦ (the) Κυρίου (Lord), παιδευόμεθα (we are disciplined), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) σὺν (with) τῷ (the) κόσμῳ (world) κατακριθῶμεν (we should be condemned).

⁶ ἱκανὸν (Sufficient) τῷ (to) τοιούτῳ (such a one) ἡ (is the) ἐπιτιμία (punishment) αὕτη (this), ἡ (which is) ὑπὸ (by) τῶν (the) πλειόνων (majority), ⁷ ὥστε (so that) τοὐναντίον (on the contrary) μᾶλλον (rather) ὑμᾶς (for you) χαρίσασθαι (to forgive) καὶ (and) παρακαλέσαι (to comfort him), μή (lest) πως (perhaps) τῇ (-) περισσοτέρᾳ (by more abundant) λύπῃ (sorrow) καταποθῇ (should be overwhelmed) ὁ (-) τοιοῦτος (such a one).

⁶ καὶ (and) ἐν (in) ἑτοίμῳ (readiness) ἔχοντες (having), ἐκδικῆσαι (to avenge) πᾶσαν (all) παρακοήν (disobedience), ὅταν (when) πληρωθῇ (might have been fulfilled) ὑμῶν (your) ἡ (-) ὑπακοή (obedience).

¹ Ἀδελφοί (Brothers), ἐὰν (if) καὶ (even) προλημφθῇ (should be overcome) ἄνθρωπος (a man) ἔν (in) τινι (some) παραπτώματι (trespass), ὑμεῖς (you), οἱ (the) πνευματικοὶ (spiritual ones), καταρτίζετε (restore) τὸν (-) τοιοῦτον (such a one) ἐν (in) πνεύματι (a spirit) πραΰτητος (of gentleness), σκοπῶν (considering) σεαυτόν (yourself), μὴ (lest) καὶ (also) σὺ (you) πειρασθῇς (be tempted). ² Ἀλλήλων (One another’s) τὰ (-) βάρη (burdens) βαστάζετε (bear you), καὶ (and) οὕτως (thus) ἀναπληρώσετε (you shall fulfill) τὸν (the) νόμον (law) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ).

⁶ πεποιθὼς (being persuaded of) αὐτὸ (the very thing) τοῦτο (this), ὅτι (that) ὁ (the One) ἐναρξάμενος (having begun) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you) ἔργον (a work) ἀγαθὸν (good) ἐπιτελέσει (will complete it) ἄχρι (until) ἡμέρας (the day) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus).

¹⁴ Εἰ (If) δέ (then) τις (anyone) οὐχ (not) ὑπακούει (obey) τῷ (this) λόγῳ (instruction) ἡμῶν (of us) διὰ (through) τῆς (the) ἐπιστολῆς (letter), τοῦτον (of this man) σημειοῦσθε (take note) μὴ (not) συναναμίγνυσθαι (to mix with) αὐτῷ (him), ἵνα (so that) ἐντραπῇ (he may be ashamed). ¹⁵ καὶ (And yet) μὴ (not) ὡς (as) ἐχθρὸν (an enemy) ἡγεῖσθε (esteem him), ἀλλὰ (but) νουθετεῖτε (admonish him) ὡς (as) ἀδελφόν (a brother).

²⁰ ὧν (among whom) ἐστιν (are) Ὑμέναιος (Hymenaeus) καὶ (and) Ἀλέξανδρος (Alexander), οὓς (whom) παρέδωκα (I have handed over) τῷ (-) Σατανᾷ (to Satan) ἵνα (that) παιδευθῶσιν (they may be disciplined) μὴ (not) βλασφημεῖν (to blaspheme).

¹⁸ Δῴη (May grant) αὐτῷ (unto him) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) εὑρεῖν (to find) ἔλεος (mercy) παρὰ (from) Κυρίου (the Lord) ἐν (in) ἐκείνῃ (that) τῇ (-) ἡμέρᾳ (day)! καὶ (And) ὅσα (how much) ἐν (in) Ἐφέσῳ (Ephesus) διηκόνησεν (he served) βέλτιον (very well), σὺ (you) γινώσκεις (know).

¹⁹ Ἀδελφοί (Brothers) μου (of Me), ἐάν (if) τις (anyone) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you) πλανηθῇ (might wander) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) ἀληθείας (truth), καὶ (and) ἐπιστρέψῃ (should bring back) τις (someone) αὐτόν (him), ²⁰ γινωσκέτω* (let him know) ὅτι (that) ὁ (the one) ἐπιστρέψας (having brought back) ἁμαρτωλὸν (a sinner) ἐκ (from) πλάνης (the error) ὁδοῦ (of the way) αὐτοῦ (of him) σώσει (will save) ψυχὴν (the soul) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἐκ (from) θανάτου (death) καὶ (and) καλύψει (will cover over) πλῆθος (a multitude) ἁμαρτιῶν (of sins).

¹² προσδοκῶντας (expecting) καὶ (and) σπεύδοντας (hastening) τὴν (the) παρουσίαν (coming) τῆς (of the) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἡμέρας (day), δι’ (by reason of) ἣν (which) οὐρανοὶ (the heavens) πυρούμενοι (being set on fire) λυθήσονται (will be dissolved), καὶ (and) στοιχεῖα (the elements) καυσούμενα (burning with heat) τήκεται (are melting).

¹⁶ Ἐάν (If) τις (anyone) ἴδῃ (should see) τὸν (the) ἀδελφὸν (brother) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἁμαρτάνοντα (sinning) ἁμαρτίαν (a sin) μὴ (not) πρὸς (unto) θάνατον (death), αἰτήσει (he shall ask), καὶ (and) δώσει (He will give) αὐτῷ (him) ζωήν (life), τοῖς (to those) ἁμαρτάνουσιν (sinning) μὴ (not) πρὸς (unto) θάνατον (death). ἔστιν (There is) ἁμαρτία (a sin) πρὸς (unto) θάνατον (death); οὐ (not) περὶ (concerning) ἐκείνης (that) λέγω (do I say) ἵνα (that) ἐρωτήσῃ (he should implore).

²² Καὶ (And) οὓς (those who) μὲν (indeed) ἐλεᾶτε (have mercy on), διακρινομένους (are doubting); ²³ ‹οὓς (others) δὲ› (also) σῴζετε (save), ἐκ (out of) πυρὸς (the fire) ἁρπάζοντες (snatching); οὓς (to others) δὲ (then) ἐλεᾶτε (show mercy) ἐν (with) φόβῳ (fear), μισοῦντες (hating) καὶ (even) τὸν (the) ἀπὸ (by) τῆς (the) σαρκὸς (flesh) ἐσπιλωμένον (having been stained) χιτῶνα (clothing).

³³ Ἄλλην (Another) παραβολὴν (parable) ἐλάλησεν (spoke He) αὐτοῖς (to them): “Ὁμοία (Like) ἐστὶν (is) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens) ζύμῃ (to leaven), ἣν (which) λαβοῦσα (having taken), γυνὴ (a woman) ἐνέκρυψεν (hid) εἰς (in) ἀλεύρου (of flour) σάτα (measures) τρία (three), ἕως (until) οὗ (of it) ἐζυμώθη (was leavened) ὅλον (all).”

⁶ ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ὁρᾶτε (Watch) καὶ (and) προσέχετε (beware) ἀπὸ (of) τῆς (the) ζύμης (leaven) τῶν (of the) Φαρισαίων (Pharisees) καὶ (and) Σαδδουκαίων (Sadducees).” ⁷ Οἱ (-) δὲ (And) διελογίζοντο (they were reasoning) ἐν (among) ἑαυτοῖς (themselves), λέγοντες (saying), “Ὅτι (Because) Ἄρτους (bread) οὐκ (not) ἐλάβομεν (we took).” ⁸ Γνοὺς (Having known this) δὲ (however), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said), “Τί (Why) διαλογίζεσθε (reason you) ἐν (among) ἑαυτοῖς (yourselves), ὀλιγόπιστοι (O you of little faith), ὅτι (because) ἄρτους (bread) οὐκ (not) ἔχετε (you took)? ⁹ οὔπω (Not yet) νοεῖτε (do you understand), οὐδὲ (nor) μνημονεύετε (remember) τοὺς (the) πέντε (five) ἄρτους (loaves) τῶν (for the) πεντακισχιλίων (five thousand), καὶ (and) πόσους (how many) κοφίνους (hand-baskets) ἐλάβετε (you gathered)? ¹⁰ οὐδὲ (Nor) τοὺς (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) ἄρτους (loaves) τῶν (for the) τετρακισχιλίων (four thousand), καὶ (and) πόσας (how many) σπυρίδας (baskets) ἐλάβετε (you gathered)? ¹¹ πῶς (How) οὐ (not) νοεῖτε (understand you) ὅτι (that), οὐ (not) περὶ (concerning) ἄρτων (bread) εἶπον (I spoke) ὑμῖν (to you), προσέχετε (to beware) δὲ (also) ἀπὸ (of) τῆς (the) ζύμης (leaven) τῶν (of the) Φαρισαίων (Pharisees) καὶ (and) Σαδδουκαίων (Sadducees)?” ¹² Τότε (Then) συνῆκαν (they understood) ὅτι (that) οὐκ (not) εἶπεν (He said) προσέχειν (to beware) ἀπὸ (of) τῆς (the) ζύμης (leaven) τῶν (of) ἄρτων (bread), ἀλλὰ (but) ἀπὸ (of) τῆς (the) διδαχῆς (teaching) τῶν (of the) Φαρισαίων (Pharisees) καὶ (and) Σαδδουκαίων (Sadducees).

¹⁸ Ὡς (As to) μὴ (not) ἐρχομένου (coming) δέ (now) μου (of me) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you), ἐφυσιώθησάν (have become puffed up) τινες (some). ¹⁹ ἐλεύσομαι (I will come) δὲ (however) ταχέως (shortly) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you), ἐὰν (if) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) θελήσῃ (wills), καὶ (and) γνώσομαι (I will find out) οὐ (not) τὸν (the) λόγον (talk) τῶν (of those) πεφυσιωμένων (being puffed up), ἀλλὰ (but) τὴν (the) δύναμιν (power).

² καὶ (And) ὑμεῖς (you) πεφυσιωμένοι (puffed up) ἐστέ (are), καὶ (and) οὐχὶ (not) μᾶλλον (rather) ἐπενθήσατε (have mourned), ἵνα (so that) ἀρθῇ (might be taken) ἐκ (out of) μέσου (midst) ὑμῶν (of you) ὁ (the one) τὸ (the) ἔργον (deed) τοῦτο (this) πράξας (having done)!

³³ Μὴ (Not) πλανᾶσθε (be misled): “Φθείρουσιν (Do corrupt) ἤθη (morals) χρηστὰ (good), ὁμιλίαι (companionships) κακαί (bad).”

⁹ μικρὰ (A little) ζύμη (leaven) ὅλον (whole) τὸ (the) φύραμα (lump) ζυμοῖ (leavens).

¹⁷ καὶ (and) ὁ (the) λόγος (talk) αὐτῶν (of them) ὡς (like) γάγγραινα (gangrene) νομὴν (pasture to grow) ἕξει (will have), ὧν (among whom) ἐστιν (are) Ὑμέναιος (Hymenaeus) καὶ (and) Φιλητός (Philetus),

¹⁶ νῦν (Now) δὲ (however) καυχᾶσθε (you boast) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἀλαζονείαις* (arrogance) ὑμῶν (of you). πᾶσα (All) καύχησις (boasting) τοιαύτη (such) πονηρά (evil) ἐστιν (is).

¹² Καὶ (And) τῇ (on the) πρώτῃ (first) ἡμέρᾳ (day) τῶν (-) ἀζύμων (of unleavened bread), ὅτε (when) τὸ (the) πάσχα (Passover lamb) ἔθυον (they were to sacrifice), λέγουσιν (say) αὐτῷ (to Him) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), “Ποῦ (Where) θέλεις (do You desire that), ἀπελθόντες (having gone), ἑτοιμάσωμεν (we should prepare) ἵνα (that) φάγῃς (You may eat) τὸ (the) πάσχα (Passover)?”

²⁹ Τῇ (On the) ἐπαύριον (next day) βλέπει (he sees) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) ἐρχόμενον (coming) πρὸς (to) αὐτόν (him) καὶ (and) λέγει (says), “Ἴδε (Behold) ὁ (the) Ἀμνὸς (Lamb) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ὁ (-) αἴρων (taking away) τὴν (the) ἁμαρτίαν (sin) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world).

³⁶ καὶ (And) ἐμβλέψας (having looked at) τῷ (-) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) περιπατοῦντι (walking), λέγει (he says), “Ἴδε (Behold) ὁ (the) Ἀμνὸς (Lamb) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God)!”

¹⁴ ἦν (It was) δὲ (now) Παρασκευὴ (the Day of Preparation) τοῦ (of the) πάσχα (Passover); ὥρα (the hour) ἦν (was) ὡς (about) ἕκτη (the sixth). καὶ (And) λέγει (he says) τοῖς (to the) Ἰουδαίοις (Jews), “Ἴδε (Behold) ὁ (the) Βασιλεὺς (king) ὑμῶν (of you)!”

³² Ἡ (-) δὲ (Now) περιοχὴ (the passage) τῆς (of the) γραφῆς (Scripture) ἣν (which) ἀνεγίνωσκεν (he was reading) ἦν (was) αὕτη (this): “Ὡς (As) πρόβατον (a sheep) ἐπὶ (to) σφαγὴν (slaughter) ἤχθη (He was led), καὶ (and) ὡς (as) ἀμνὸς (a lamb) ἐναντίον (before) τοῦ (the one) κείραντος* (shearing) αὐτὸν (him) ἄφωνος (is silent), οὕτως (so) οὐκ (not) ἀνοίγει (He opens) τὸ (the) στόμα (mouth) αὐτοῦ (of Him). ³³ Ἐν (In) τῇ (the) ταπεινώσει (humiliation) [αὐτοῦ] (of Him), ἡ (-) κρίσις (justice) αὐτοῦ (from Him) ἤρθη (was taken away). τὴν (The) γενεὰν (generation) αὐτοῦ (of Him), τίς (who) διηγήσεται (will describe)? ὅτι (For) αἴρεται (is removed) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth) ἡ (the) ζωὴ (life) αὐτοῦ (of Him).” ³⁴ Ἀποκριθεὶς (Answering) δὲ (now), ὁ (the) εὐνοῦχος (eunuch) τῷ (-) Φιλίππῳ (to Philip) εἶπεν (said), “Δέομαί (I pray) σου (you), περὶ (concerning) τίνος (whom) ὁ (the) προφήτης (prophet) λέγει (says) τοῦτο (this)? περὶ (Concerning) ἑαυτοῦ (himself), ἢ (or) περὶ (concerning) ἑτέρου (other) τινός (some)?” ³⁵ Ἀνοίξας (Having opened) δὲ (then) ὁ (-) Φίλιππος (Philip) τὸ (the) στόμα (mouth) αὐτοῦ (of him) καὶ (and) ἀρξάμενος (having begun) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (the) γραφῆς (Scripture) ταύτης (this), εὐηγγελίσατο (he proclaimed the good news) αὐτῷ (to him) — τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus).

¹⁷ ὅτι (Because there is) εἷς (one) ἄρτος (loaf), ἓν (one) σῶμα (body) οἱ (the) πολλοί (many) ἐσμεν (we are); οἱ (-) γὰρ (for) πάντες (all) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) ἑνὸς (one) ἄρτου (loaf) μετέχομεν (we partake).

³ Παρέδωκα (I delivered) γὰρ (for) ὑμῖν (to you) ἐν (in) πρώτοις (the foremost) ὃ (what) καὶ (also) παρέλαβον (I received), ὅτι (that) Χριστὸς (Christ) ἀπέθανεν (died) ὑπὲρ (for) τῶν (the) ἁμαρτιῶν (sins) ἡμῶν (of us) κατὰ (according to) τὰς (the) γραφάς (Scriptures), ⁴ καὶ (and) ὅτι (that) ἐτάφη (He was buried), καὶ (and) ὅτι (that) ἐγήγερται (He was raised) τῇ (the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) τῇ (the) τρίτῃ (third) κατὰ (according to) τὰς (the) γραφάς (Scriptures),

⁵ Νεκρώσατε (Put to death) οὖν (therefore) τὰ (the) μέλη (members) τὰ (which are) ἐπὶ (upon) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth): πορνείαν (sexual immorality), ἀκαθαρσίαν (impurity), πάθος (passion), ἐπιθυμίαν (desire) κακήν (evil), καὶ (and) τὴν (-) πλεονεξίαν (covetousness), ἥτις (which) ἐστὶν (is) εἰδωλολατρία (idolatry), ⁶ δι’ (because of) ἃ (which things) ἔρχεται (is coming) ἡ (the) ὀργὴ (wrath) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ‹ἐπὶ (on) τοὺς (the) υἱοὺς (sons) τῆς (of) ἀπειθείας› (disobedience), ⁷ ἐν (in) οἷς (which) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you) περιεπατήσατέ (walked) ποτε (once) ὅτε (when) ἐζῆτε (you were living) ἐν (in) τούτοις (them). ⁸ νυνὶ (Now) δὲ (however), ἀπόθεσθε (put off) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you) τὰ (-) πάντα (all these things): ὀργήν (anger), θυμόν (rage), κακίαν (malice), βλασφημίαν (slander), αἰσχρολογίαν (foul language) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) στόματος (mouth) ὑμῶν (of you). ⁹ Μὴ (Not) ψεύδεσθε (do lie) εἰς (to) ἀλλήλους (one another), ἀπεκδυσάμενοι (having put off) τὸν (the) παλαιὸν (old) ἄνθρωπον (man) σὺν (with) ταῖς (the) πράξεσιν (practices) αὐτοῦ (of him),

⁶ Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) ἐν (in) μέσῳ (the midst) τοῦ (of the) θρόνου (throne) καὶ (and) τῶν (of the) τεσσάρων (four) ζῴων (living creatures), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) μέσῳ (the midst) τῶν (of the) πρεσβυτέρων (elders), Ἀρνίον (a Lamb) ἑστηκὸς (standing) ὡς (as) ἐσφαγμένον (having been slain), ἔχων (having) κέρατα (horns) ἑπτὰ (seven) καὶ (and) ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) ἑπτά (seven), οἵ (which) εἰσιν (are) τὰ (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) Πνεύματα (Spirits) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ἀπεσταλμένοι (having been sent out) εἰς (into) πᾶσαν (all) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth). ⁷ καὶ (And) ἦλθεν (He came) καὶ (and) εἴληφεν (took it) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) δεξιᾶς (right hand) τοῦ (of the One) καθημένου (sitting) ἐπὶ (on) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne). ⁸ Καὶ (And) ὅτε (when) ἔλαβεν (He had taken) τὸ (the) βιβλίον (scroll), τὰ (the) τέσσαρα (four) ζῷα (living creatures) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) εἴκοσι (twenty) τέσσαρες (four) πρεσβύτεροι (elders) ἔπεσαν (fell down) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the) Ἀρνίου (Lamb), ἔχοντες (having) ἕκαστος (each) κιθάραν (a harp) καὶ (and) φιάλας (bowls) χρυσᾶς (golden) γεμούσας (being full) θυμιαμάτων (of incenses), αἵ (which) εἰσιν (are) αἱ (the) προσευχαὶ (prayers) τῶν (of the) ἁγίων (saints). ⁹ καὶ (And) ᾄδουσιν (they are singing) ᾠδὴν (a song) καινὴν (new), λέγοντες (saying), “Ἄξιος (Worthy) εἶ (are You) λαβεῖν (to take) τὸ (the) βιβλίον (scroll), καὶ (and) ἀνοῖξαι (to open) τὰς (the) σφραγῖδας (seals) αὐτοῦ (of it), ὅτι (because) ἐσφάγης (You were slain), καὶ (and) ἠγόρασας (You purchased) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God) ἐν (by) τῷ (the) αἵματί (blood) σου (of You), ἐκ (out of) πάσης (every) φυλῆς (tribe) καὶ (and) γλώσσης (tongue) καὶ (and) λαοῦ (people) καὶ (and) ἔθνους (nation),

¹² λέγοντες (saying) φωνῇ (in a voice) μεγάλῃ (loud): “Ἄξιόν* (Worthy) ἐστιν (is) τὸ (the) Ἀρνίον (Lamb) τὸ (-) ἐσφαγμένον (having been slain), λαβεῖν (to receive) τὴν (the) δύναμιν (power) καὶ (and) πλοῦτον (riches) καὶ (and) σοφίαν (wisdom) καὶ (and) ἰσχὺν (strength) καὶ (and) τιμὴν (honor) καὶ (and) δόξαν (glory) καὶ (and) εὐλογίαν (blessing)!”

⁶ ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ὁρᾶτε (Watch) καὶ (and) προσέχετε (beware) ἀπὸ (of) τῆς (the) ζύμης (leaven) τῶν (of the) Φαρισαίων (Pharisees) καὶ (and) Σαδδουκαίων (Sadducees).”

¹² Τότε (Then) συνῆκαν (they understood) ὅτι (that) οὐκ (not) εἶπεν (He said) προσέχειν (to beware) ἀπὸ (of) τῆς (the) ζύμης (leaven) τῶν (of) ἄρτων (bread), ἀλλὰ (but) ἀπὸ (of) τῆς (the) διδαχῆς (teaching) τῶν (of the) Φαρισαίων (Pharisees) καὶ (and) Σαδδουκαίων (Sadducees).

⁴ καὶ (and) συνεβουλεύσαντο (they plotted together), ἵνα (in order that) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) δόλῳ (by guile) κρατήσωσιν (they might seize) καὶ (and) ἀποκτείνωσιν (kill). ⁵ ἔλεγον (They were saying) δέ (however), “Μὴ (Not) ἐν (during) τῇ (the) ἑορτῇ (feast), ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) θόρυβος (a riot) γένηται (there be) ἐν (among) τῷ (the) λαῷ (people).”

¹⁵ καὶ (And) διεστέλλετο (He was instructing) αὐτοῖς (them), λέγων (saying), “Ὁρᾶτε (Watch out); βλέπετε (take heed) ἀπὸ (of) τῆς (the) ζύμης (leaven) τῶν (of the) Φαρισαίων (Pharisees), καὶ (and) τῆς (of the) ζύμης (leaven) Ἡρῴδου (of Herod).”

¹ Ἐν (In) οἷς (these times), ἐπισυναχθεισῶν (having been gathered together) τῶν (the) μυριάδων (myriads) τοῦ (of the) ὄχλου (crowd) ὥστε (so as) καταπατεῖν (to trample upon) ἀλλήλους (one another), ἤρξατο (He began) λέγειν (to say) πρὸς (to) τοὺς (the) μαθητὰς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) πρῶτον (first), “Προσέχετε (Take heed) ἑαυτοῖς (to yourselves) ἀπὸ (of) τῆς (the) ζύμης (leaven), ἥτις (which) ἐστὶν (is) ὑπόκρισις (hypocrisy), τῶν (of the) Φαρισαίων (Pharisees).

⁴⁷ Εἶδεν (Saw) ‹ὁ› (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) τὸν (-) Ναθαναὴλ (Nathanael) ἐρχόμενον (coming) πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν (Him), καὶ (and) λέγει (He says) περὶ (concerning) αὐτοῦ (him), “Ἴδε (Behold) ἀληθῶς (truly) Ἰσραηλίτης (an Israelite), ἐν (in) ᾧ (whom) δόλος (deceit) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (there is).”

²⁸ Ἄγουσιν (They are leading) οὖν (then) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (-) Καϊάφα (Caiaphas) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) πραιτώριον (Praetorium). ἦν (It was) δὲ (now) πρωΐ (early), καὶ (and) αὐτοὶ (they) οὐκ (not) εἰσῆλθον (entered) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) πραιτώριον (Praetorium) ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) μιανθῶσιν (they should be defiled), ἀλλὰ (but) φάγωσιν (might eat) τὸ (the) πάσχα (Passover). ²⁹ Ἐξῆλθεν (Went) οὖν (therefore) ὁ (-) Πιλᾶτος (Pilate) ἔξω (out) πρὸς (to) αὐτοὺς (them) καὶ (and) φησίν (said), “Τίνα (What) κατηγορίαν (accusation) φέρετε (bring you) ‹κατὰ› (against) τοῦ (the) ἀνθρώπου (man) τούτου (this)?” ³⁰ Ἀπεκρίθησαν (They answered) καὶ (and) εἶπαν (said) αὐτῷ (to him), “Εἰ (If) μὴ (not) ἦν (were) οὗτος (He) κακὸν (evil) ποιῶν (doing), οὐκ (not) ἄν (-) σοι (to you) παρεδώκαμεν (we would have delivered) αὐτόν (Him).”

³ ἔτι (still) γὰρ (for) σαρκικοί (fleshly) ἐστε (you are). ὅπου (Where) γὰρ (for) ἐν (are among) ὑμῖν (you) ζῆλος (jealousy) καὶ (and) ἔρις (strife), οὐχὶ (not) σαρκικοί (fleshly) ἐστε (are you), καὶ (and) κατὰ (according to) ἄνθρωπον (man) περιπατεῖτε (are walking)?

¹ Ὅλως (Actually) ἀκούεται (is reported) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you) πορνεία (sexual immorality), καὶ (and) τοιαύτη (such) πορνεία (sexual immorality) ἥτις (as) οὐδὲ (not even) ἐν (among) τοῖς (the) ἔθνεσιν (pagans), ὥστε (so as for) γυναῖκά (the wife) τινα (one) τοῦ (of the) πατρὸς (father) ἔχειν (to have).

⁶ Οὐ (Not) καλὸν (good is) τὸ (the) καύχημα (boasting) ὑμῶν (of you). οὐκ (Not) οἴδατε (know you) ὅτι (that) μικρὰ (a little) ζύμη (leaven) ὅλον (all) τὸ (the) φύραμα (lump) ζυμοῖ (leavens)?

⁹ Ἢ (Or) οὐκ (not) οἴδατε (know you) ὅτι (that) ἄδικοι (the unrighteous ones) Θεοῦ (of God) βασιλείαν (the kingdom) οὐ (not) κληρονομήσουσιν (will inherit)? μὴ (Not) πλανᾶσθε (be deceived): οὔτε (neither) πόρνοι (the sexually immoral), οὔτε (nor) εἰδωλολάτραι (idolaters), οὔτε (nor) μοιχοὶ (adulterers), οὔτε (nor) μαλακοὶ (effeminate), οὔτε (nor) ἀρσενοκοῖται (homosexuals), ¹⁰ οὔτε (nor) κλέπται (thieves), οὔτε (nor) πλεονέκται (coveters), οὐ (not) μέθυσοι (drunkards), οὐ (nor) λοίδοροι (verbal abusers), οὐχ (nor) ἅρπαγες (swindlers), βασιλείαν (the kingdom) Θεοῦ (of God) κληρονομήσουσιν (will inherit). ¹¹ καὶ (And) ταῦτά (such) τινες (some of) ἦτε (you were); ἀλλὰ (but) ἀπελούσασθε (you were washed), ἀλλὰ (but) ἡγιάσθητε (you were sanctified), ἀλλὰ (but) ἐδικαιώθητε (you were justified), ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) καὶ (and) ἐν (by) τῷ (the) Πνεύματι (Spirit) τοῦ (of the) Θεοῦ (God) ἡμῶν (of us).

⁸ Οὐ (Not) κατ’ (as) ἐπιταγὴν (a command) λέγω (do I speak), ἀλλὰ (but) διὰ (through) τῆς (the) ἑτέρων (of others) σπουδῆς (earnestness), καὶ (also) τὸ (the) τῆς (-) ὑμετέρας (of your) ἀγάπης (love) γνήσιον (genuineness) δοκιμάζων (proving).

²⁰ φοβοῦμαι (I fear) γὰρ (for) μή (lest) πως (perhaps), ἐλθὼν (having come), οὐχ (not) οἵους (such as) θέλω (I wish) εὕρω (I may find) ὑμᾶς (you), κἀγὼ (and I) εὑρεθῶ (might be found) ὑμῖν (by you) οἷον (such as) οὐ (not) θέλετε (you do wish); μή (lest) πως (perhaps) ἔρις (quarreling), ζῆλος (jealousy), θυμοί (anger), ἐριθεῖαι (contentions), καταλαλιαί (slander), ψιθυρισμοί (gossip), φυσιώσεις (conceit), ἀκαταστασίαι (disorder); ²¹ μὴ (lest) πάλιν (again) ἐλθόντος (having come) μου (of me), ταπεινώσῃ (should humble) με (me) ὁ (the) Θεός (God) μου (of me) πρὸς (as to) ὑμᾶς (you), καὶ (and) πενθήσω (I should mourn over) πολλοὺς (many) τῶν (of those) προημαρτηκότων (having before sinned) καὶ (and) μὴ (not) μετανοησάντων (having repented) ἐπὶ (of) τῇ (the) ἀκαθαρσίᾳ (impurity) καὶ (and) πορνείᾳ (sexual immorality) καὶ (and) ἀσελγείᾳ (sensuality) ᾗ (that) ἔπραξαν (they have practiced).

¹⁷ Τοῦτο (This) οὖν (therefore) λέγω (I say) καὶ (and) μαρτύρομαι (testify) ἐν (in) Κυρίῳ (the Lord): μηκέτι (No longer) ὑμᾶς (are you) περιπατεῖν (to walk) καθὼς (as) καὶ (also) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (Gentiles) περιπατεῖ (are walking), ἐν (in) ματαιότητι (the futility) τοῦ (of the) νοὸς (mind) αὐτῶν (of them), ¹⁸ ἐσκοτωμένοι (being darkened) τῇ (in the) διανοίᾳ (understanding), ὄντες (being) ἀπηλλοτριωμένοι (alienated from) τῆς (the) ζωῆς (life) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), διὰ (because of) τὴν (the) ἄγνοιαν (ignorance) τὴν (-) οὖσαν (being) ἐν (in) αὐτοῖς (them), διὰ (on account of) τὴν (the) πώρωσιν (hardness) τῆς (of the) καρδίας (heart) αὐτῶν (of them), ¹⁹ οἵτινες (who) ἀπηλγηκότες (having cast off all feeling), ἑαυτοὺς (themselves) παρέδωκαν (have given up) τῇ (to) ἀσελγείᾳ (sensuality), εἰς (for) ἐργασίαν (the working) ἀκαθαρσίας (of impurity), πάσης (all) ἐν (with) πλεονεξίᾳ (greediness). ²⁰ Ὑμεῖς (You) δὲ (however) οὐχ (not) οὕτως (this way) ἐμάθετε (learned) τὸν (-) Χριστόν (Christ), ²¹ εἴ (if) γε (indeed) αὐτὸν (Him) ἠκούσατε (you have heard) καὶ (and) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (Him) ἐδιδάχθητε (have been taught), καθώς (just as) ἐστιν (is) ἀλήθεια (the truth) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus). ²² ἀποθέσθαι (Are to have put off) ὑμᾶς (you), κατὰ (concerning) τὴν (the) προτέραν (former) ἀναστροφὴν (way of life), τὸν (the) παλαιὸν (old) ἄνθρωπον (man), τὸν (which) φθειρόμενον (is being corrupted), κατὰ (according to) τὰς (its) ἐπιθυμίας (desires) τῆς (-) ἀπάτης (of deceit),

²⁴ Ἡ (-) χάρις (Grace) μετὰ (be with) πάντων (all) τῶν (those) ἀγαπώντων (loving) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) Χριστὸν (Christ) ἐν (in) ἀφθαρσίᾳ (incorruptibility).

¹ Ἀποθέμενοι (Having put aside) οὖν (therefore) πᾶσαν (all) κακίαν (malice), καὶ (and) πάντα (all) δόλον (deceit), καὶ (and) ὑποκρίσεις (hypocrisy), καὶ (and) φθόνους (envies), καὶ (and) πάσας (all) καταλαλιάς (evil speakings), ² ὡς (like) ἀρτιγέννητα (newborn) βρέφη (babies), τὸ (-) λογικὸν (reasonable) ἄδολον (pure) γάλα (milk) ἐπιποθήσατε (crave), ἵνα (so that) ἐν (by) αὐτῷ (it) αὐξηθῆτε (you may grow up) εἰς (in respect to) σωτηρίαν (salvation),

² εἰς (so as) τὸ (-) μηκέτι (no longer) ἀνθρώπων (to men’s) ἐπιθυμίαις (desires) ἀλλὰ (but) θελήματι (to the will) Θεοῦ (of God), τὸν (the) ἐπίλοιπον (remaining) ἐν (in) σαρκὶ (the flesh) βιῶσαι (to live) χρόνον (time).

¹⁸ Τεκνία (Little children), μὴ (not) ἀγαπῶμεν (we should love) λόγῳ (in word), μηδὲ (nor) τῇ (in) γλώσσῃ (tongue), ἀλλὰ (but) ἐν (in) ἔργῳ (action) καὶ (and) ἀληθείᾳ (in truth). ¹⁹ [καὶ] (And) ἐν (by) τούτῳ (this) γνωσόμεθα (we will know) ὅτι (that) ἐκ (of) τῆς (the) ἀληθείας (truth) ἐσμέν (we are), καὶ (and) ἔμπροσθεν (before) αὐτοῦ (Him) πείσομεν (we will assure) τὴν (the) καρδίαν (heart) ἡμῶν (of us), ²⁰ ὅτι (that) ἐὰν (if) καταγινώσκῃ (should condemn us) ἡμῶν (our) ἡ (-) καρδία (heart), ὅτι (that) μείζων (greater than) ἐστὶν (is) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) τῆς (the) καρδίας (heart) ἡμῶν (of us), καὶ (and) γινώσκει (He knows) πάντα (all things). ²¹ Ἀγαπητοί (Beloved), ἐὰν (if) ἡ (the) καρδία (heart) ‹ἡμῶν› (of us) «μὴ (not) καταγινώσκῃ» (should condemn us), παρρησίαν (confidence) ἔχομεν (we have) πρὸς (toward) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God),

⁷ ἐκκαθάρατε (Cleanse out) τὴν (the) παλαιὰν (old) ζύμην (leaven), ἵνα (that) ἦτε (you may be) νέον (a new) φύραμα (lump), καθώς (as) ἐστε (you are), ἄζυμοι (unleavened). καὶ (Also) γὰρ (for) τὸ (the) πάσχα (Passover lamb) ἡμῶν (of us) ἐτύθη (has been sacrificed), Χριστός (Christ),

¹⁴ Μὴ (Not) γίνεσθε (become) ἑτεροζυγοῦντες (unequally yoked together) ἀπίστοις (with unbelievers); τίς (what) γὰρ (for) μετοχὴ (partnership have) δικαιοσύνῃ (righteousness) καὶ (and) ἀνομίᾳ (lawlessness)? ἢ (Or) τίς (what) κοινωνία (fellowship) φωτὶ (light) πρὸς (with) σκότος (darkness)?

¹⁷ “Διὸ (Therefore) ἐξέλθατε (come out) ἐκ (from) μέσου (the midst) αὐτῶν (of them) καὶ (and) ἀφορίσθητε (be separate), λέγει (says) Κύριος (the Lord), καὶ (and) ἀκαθάρτου (unclean) μὴ (nothing) ἅπτεσθε (touch), κἀγὼ (and I) εἰσδέξομαι (will receive) ὑμᾶς (you).”

¹¹ Καὶ (And) μὴ (not) συνκοινωνεῖτε (have fellowship with) τοῖς (the) ἔργοις (works) τοῖς (-) ἀκάρποις (unfruitful) τοῦ (-) σκότους (of darkness); μᾶλλον (rather) δὲ (however) καὶ (even) ἐλέγχετε (expose them);

¹⁴ Εἰ (If) δέ (then) τις (anyone) οὐχ (not) ὑπακούει (obey) τῷ (this) λόγῳ (instruction) ἡμῶν (of us) διὰ (through) τῆς (the) ἐπιστολῆς (letter), τοῦτον (of this man) σημειοῦσθε (take note) μὴ (not) συναναμίγνυσθαι (to mix with) αὐτῷ (him), ἵνα (so that) ἐντραπῇ (he may be ashamed).

¹⁴ Ὑμεῖς (You) ἐστε (are) τὸ (the) φῶς (light) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world). οὐ (Not) δύναται (is able) πόλις (a city) κρυβῆναι (to be hidden) ἐπάνω (on) ὄρους (a hill) κειμένη (lying). ¹⁵ οὐδὲ (Nor) καίουσιν (do they light) λύχνον (a lamp) καὶ (and) τιθέασιν (put) αὐτὸν (it) ὑπὸ (under) τὸν (-) μόδιον (a basket), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) λυχνίαν (lampstand), καὶ (and) λάμπει (it shines) πᾶσιν (for all) τοῖς (those) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) οἰκίᾳ (house). ¹⁶ οὕτως (Thus) λαμψάτω (let shine) τὸ (the) φῶς (light) ὑμῶν (of you) ἔμπροσθεν (before) τῶν (-) ἀνθρώπων (men), ὅπως (so that) ἴδωσιν (they may see) ὑμῶν (your) τὰ (-) καλὰ (good) ἔργα (works), καὶ (and) δοξάσωσιν (they should glorify) τὸν (the) πατέρα (Father) ὑμῶν (of you) τὸν (-) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) οὐρανοῖς (heavens).

²³ Καὶ (And) ἔλεγεν (He was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ὑμεῖς (You) ἐκ (from) τῶν (-) κάτω (below) ἐστέ (are); ἐγὼ (I) ἐκ (from) τῶν (-) ἄνω (above) εἰμί (am). ὑμεῖς (You) ἐκ (of) τούτου (this) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) ἐστέ (are), ἐγὼ (I) οὐκ (not) εἰμὶ (am) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) τούτου (this).

¹⁹ εἰ (If) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) ἦτε (you were), ὁ (the) κόσμος (world) ἂν (-) τὸ (as its) ἴδιον (own) ἐφίλει (would love you); ὅτι (because) δὲ (however) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) οὐκ (not) ἐστέ (you are), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐγὼ (I) ἐξελεξάμην (chose) ὑμᾶς (you) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world), διὰ (on account of) τοῦτο (this) μισεῖ (hates) ὑμᾶς (you) ὁ (the) κόσμος (world).

⁶ Ἐφανέρωσά (I revealed) σου (Your) τὸ (-) ὄνομα (name) τοῖς (to the) ἀνθρώποις (men) οὓς (whom) ἔδωκάς (You have given) μοι (Me) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world). σοὶ (Yours) ἦσαν (they were), κἀμοὶ (and to Me) αὐτοὺς (them) ἔδωκας (You gave), καὶ (and) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) σου (of You) τετήρηκαν (they have kept).

⁹ Ἐγὼ (I) περὶ (concerning) αὐτῶν (them) ἐρωτῶ (am praying). οὐ (Not) περὶ (concerning) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) ἐρωτῶ (do I pray), ἀλλὰ (but) περὶ (concerning) ὧν (those whom) δέδωκάς (You have given) μοι (Me), ὅτι (for) σοί (Yours) εἰσιν (they are).

¹⁵ Οὐκ (Not) ἐρωτῶ (I do ask) ἵνα (that) ἄρῃς (You should take) αὐτοὺς (them) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world), ἀλλ’ (but) ἵνα (that) τηρήσῃς (You should keep) αὐτοὺς (them) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) πονηροῦ (evil). ¹⁶ ἐκ (Of) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) οὐκ (not) εἰσὶν (they are), καθὼς (as) ἐγὼ (I) οὐκ (not) εἰμὶ (am) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world).

²⁰ Ποῦ (Where is the) σοφός (wise)? ποῦ (Where the) γραμματεύς (scribe)? ποῦ (Where the) συζητητὴς (debater) τοῦ (the) αἰῶνος (age) τούτου (of this)? οὐχὶ (Not) ἐμώρανεν (has made foolish) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) τὴν (the) σοφίαν (wisdom) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world)?

²⁷ Εἴ (If) τις (anyone) καλεῖ (invites) ὑμᾶς (you) τῶν (of the) ἀπίστων (unbelieving), καὶ (and) θέλετε (you wish) πορεύεσθαι (to go), πᾶν (everything) τὸ (-) παρατιθέμενον (being set before) ὑμῖν (you) ἐσθίετε (eat), μηδὲν (nothing) ἀνακρίνοντες (inquiring) διὰ (on account of) τὴν (-) συνείδησιν (conscience).

⁴ ἐν (in) οἷς (whom) ὁ (the) θεὸς (god) τοῦ (of the) αἰῶνος (age) τούτου (this) ἐτύφλωσεν (has blinded) τὰ (the) νοήματα (minds) τῶν (of the) ἀπίστων (unbelieving), εἰς (so as for) τὸ (-) μὴ (not) αὐγάσαι (to beam forth) τὸν (the) φωτισμὸν (illumination) τοῦ (of the) εὐαγγελίου (gospel) τῆς (of the) δόξης (glory) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), ὅς (who) ἐστιν (is) εἰκὼν (the image) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).

² ἐν (in) αἷς (which) ποτε (once) περιεπατήσατε (you walked), κατὰ (according to) τὸν (the) αἰῶνα (age), τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) τούτου (of this), κατὰ (according to) τὸν (the) ἄρχοντα (ruler) τῆς (of the) ἐξουσίας (authority) τοῦ (of the) ἀέρος (air), τοῦ (the) πνεύματος (spirit) τοῦ (-) νῦν (now) ἐνεργοῦντος (working) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) υἱοῖς (sons) τῆς (-) ἀπειθείας (of disobedience),

¹⁵ ἵνα (so that) γένησθε (you may be) ἄμεμπτοι (blameless) καὶ (and) ἀκέραιοι (innocent), τέκνα (children) Θεοῦ (of God), ἄμωμα (unblemished) μέσον (in the midst) γενεᾶς (of a generation) σκολιᾶς (crooked) καὶ (and) διεστραμμένης (perverted), ἐν (among) οἷς (whom) φαίνεσθε (you shine) ὡς (as) φωστῆρες (lights) ἐν (in) κόσμῳ (the world),

⁵ αὐτοὶ (They) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) εἰσίν (are); διὰ (because of) τοῦτο (this) ἐκ (from out) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world) λαλοῦσιν (they speak), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) κόσμος (world) αὐτῶν (them) ἀκούει (listens to).

⁷ Ἀγαπητοί (Beloved), ἀγαπῶμεν (we should love) ἀλλήλους (one another), ὅτι (because) ἡ (-) ἀγάπη (love) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) ἐστιν (is); καὶ (and) πᾶς (everyone) ὁ (-) ἀγαπῶν (loving), ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) γεγέννηται (has been born), καὶ (and) γινώσκει (knows) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God).

¹⁹ οἴδαμεν (We know) ὅτι (that) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) ἐσμεν (we are), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) κόσμος (world) ὅλος (whole), ἐν (in) τῷ (the) πονηρῷ (evil one) κεῖται (lies).

⁹ καὶ (And) ἐβλήθη (was thrown out) ὁ (the) δράκων (dragon) ὁ (-) μέγας (great), ὁ (the) ὄφις (serpent) ὁ (-) ἀρχαῖος (ancient), ὁ (who) καλούμενος (is called) Διάβολος (the devil) καὶ (and) Ὁ (-) Σατανᾶς (Satan), ὁ (-) πλανῶν (deceiving) τὴν (the) οἰκουμένην (inhabited world) ὅλην (whole). ἐβλήθη (He was thrown down) εἰς (to) τὴν (the) γῆν (earth), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἄγγελοι (angels) αὐτοῦ (of him) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (him) ἐβλήθησαν (were thrown down).

¹⁷ ἐὰν (If) δὲ (now) παρακούσῃ (he fails to listen) αὐτῶν (to them), εἰπὸν (tell it) τῇ (to the) ἐκκλησίᾳ (church). ἐὰν (If) δὲ (now) καὶ (also) τῆς (to the) ἐκκλησίας (church) παρακούσῃ (he fails to listen), ἔστω (let him be) σοι (to you) ὥσπερ (as) ὁ (the) ἐθνικὸς (pagan) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) τελώνης (tax collector).

²⁵ Οὐαὶ (Woe) ὑμῖν (to you), γραμματεῖς (scribes) καὶ (and) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees), ὑποκριταί (hypocrites)! ὅτι (For) καθαρίζετε (you cleanse) τὸ (the) ἔξωθεν (outside) τοῦ (of the) ποτηρίου (cup) καὶ (and) τῆς (of the) παροψίδος (dish); ἔσωθεν (inside), δὲ (however), γέμουσιν (they are full) ἐξ (of) ἁρπαγῆς (greed) καὶ (and) ἀκρασίας (self-indulgence).

⁴⁹ καὶ (and) ἄρξηται (should begin) τύπτειν (to beat) τοὺς (the) συνδούλους (fellow servants) αὐτοῦ (of him), ἐσθίῃ (to eat) δὲ (then) καὶ (and) πίνῃ (to drink) μετὰ (with) τῶν (those) μεθυόντων (being drunkards), ⁵⁰ ἥξει (will come) ὁ (the) κύριος (master) τοῦ (the) δούλου (servant) ἐκείνου (of that) ἐν (in) ἡμέρᾳ (a day) ᾗ (in which) οὐ (not) προσδοκᾷ (he does expect), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) ὥρᾳ (an hour) ᾗ (which) οὐ (not) γινώσκει (he is aware), ⁵¹ καὶ (and) διχοτομήσει (will cut in pieces) αὐτὸν (him), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) μέρος (place) αὐτοῦ (of him) μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) ὑποκριτῶν (hypocrites) θήσει (will appoint); ἐκεῖ (there) ἔσται (will be) ὁ (the) κλαυθμὸς (weeping) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) βρυγμὸς (gnashing) τῶν (of) ὀδόντων (teeth).

²¹ ἔσωθεν (Within) γὰρ (for) ἐκ (from) τῆς (the) καρδίας (heart) τῶν (-) ἀνθρώπων (of men) οἱ (-) διαλογισμοὶ (thoughts) οἱ (-) κακοὶ (evil) ἐκπορεύονται (go forth), πορνεῖαι (sexual immorality), κλοπαί (thefts), φόνοι (murders), μοιχεῖαι (adulteries), ²² πλεονεξίαι (covetous desires), πονηρίαι (wickednesses), δόλος (deceit), ἀσέλγεια (sensuality), ὀφθαλμὸς (an eye) πονηρός (evil), βλασφημία (slander), ὑπερηφανία (pride), ἀφροσύνη (foolishness). ²³ πάντα (All) ταῦτα (these) τὰ (-) πονηρὰ (evils) ἔσωθεν (from within) ἐκπορεύεται (go forth), καὶ (and) κοινοῖ (they defile) τὸν (the) ἄνθρωπον (man).”

¹⁵ εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (then) πρὸς (to) αὐτούς (them), “Ὁρᾶτε (Beware) καὶ (and) φυλάσσεσθε (keep yourselves) ἀπὸ (from) πάσης (all) πλεονεξίας (covetousness); ὅτι (for) οὐκ (not) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) περισσεύειν (abundance) τινὶ (to anyone), ἡ (the) ζωὴ (life) αὐτοῦ (to him) ἐστιν (is) ἐκ (of) τῶν (that which) ὑπαρχόντων (possesses) αὐτῷ (of him).” ¹⁶ Εἶπεν (He spoke) δὲ (then) παραβολὴν (a parable) πρὸς (to) αὐτοὺς (them), λέγων (saying), “Ἀνθρώπου (Of a man) τινὸς (certain) πλουσίου (rich) εὐφόρησεν (brought forth abundantly) ἡ (the) χώρα (ground). ¹⁷ καὶ (And) διελογίζετο (he was reasoning) ἐν (within) ἑαυτῷ (himself), λέγων (saying), ‘Τί (What) ποιήσω (shall I do), ὅτι (for) οὐκ (not) ἔχω (I have) ποῦ (where) συνάξω (I will store up) τοὺς (the) καρπούς (fruits) μου (of me)?’ ¹⁸ καὶ (And) εἶπεν (he said), ‘Τοῦτο (This) ποιήσω (will I do): καθελῶ (I will tear down) μου (my) τὰς (-) ἀποθήκας (barns) καὶ (and) μείζονας (greater) οἰκοδομήσω (will build), καὶ (and) συνάξω (will store up) ἐκεῖ (there) πάντα (all) τὸν (the) σῖτον (grain) καὶ (and) τὰ (the) ἀγαθά (goods) μου (of me). ¹⁹ καὶ (And) ἐρῶ (I will say) τῇ (to the) ψυχῇ (soul) μου (of me), “Ψυχή (Soul), ἔχεις (you have) πολλὰ (many) ἀγαθὰ (good things) κείμενα (laid up) εἰς (for) ἔτη (years) πολλά (many); ἀναπαύου (take your rest); φάγε (eat), πίε (drink), εὐφραίνου (be merry).”’ ²⁰ Εἶπεν (Said) δὲ (then) αὐτῷ (to him) ὁ (-) Θεός (God), ‘Ἄφρων (Fool)! ταύτῃ (This) τῇ (-) νυκτὶ (night), τὴν (the) ψυχήν (soul) σου (of you) ἀπαιτοῦσιν (is required) ἀπὸ (of) σοῦ (you); ἃ (what) δὲ (now) ἡτοίμασας (you did prepare)— τίνι (to whom) ἔσται (will it be)?’ ²¹ Οὕτως (So is) ὁ (the one) θησαυρίζων (treasuring up) ἑαυτῷ* (for himself), καὶ (and) μὴ (not) εἰς (toward) Θεὸν (God) πλουτῶν (being rich).” ²² Εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (then) πρὸς (to) τοὺς (the) μαθητὰς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), “Διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), μὴ (not) μεριμνᾶτε (be anxious) τῇ (for the) ψυχῇ (life), τί (what) φάγητε (you should eat), μηδὲ (nor) τῷ (for the) σώματι (body) (ὑμῶν) (of you), τί (what) ἐνδύσησθε (you should put on). ²³ ἡ (The) γὰρ (for) ψυχὴ (life) πλεῖόν (more than) ἐστιν (is) τῆς (the) τροφῆς (food), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) σῶμα (body) τοῦ (than the) ἐνδύματος (clothing). ²⁴ κατανοήσατε (Consider) τοὺς (the) κόρακας (ravens), ὅτι (that) οὐ* (not) σπείρουσιν (they sow) οὐδὲ* (nor) θερίζουσιν (reap); οἷς (to them) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (there is) ταμεῖον (a storehouse) οὐδὲ (nor) ἀποθήκη (barn)— καὶ (and) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) τρέφει (feeds) αὐτούς (them). πόσῳ (How much) μᾶλλον (more) ὑμεῖς (you) διαφέρετε (are valuable) τῶν (than the) πετεινῶν (birds)! ²⁵ τίς (Which) δὲ (now) ἐξ (of) ὑμῶν (you), μεριμνῶν (being anxious), δύναται (is able) ἐπὶ (to) τὴν (the) ἡλικίαν (lifespan) αὐτοῦ (of him) προσθεῖναι (to add) πῆχυν (one hour)? ²⁶ εἰ (If) οὖν (then) οὐδὲ (not even) ἐλάχιστον (the least) δύνασθε (you are able to do), τί (why) περὶ (about) τῶν (the) λοιπῶν (rest) μεριμνᾶτε (are you anxious)? ²⁷ Κατανοήσατε (Consider) τὰ (the) κρίνα (lilies), πῶς (how) ‹αὐξάνει (they grow): οὐ (Not) κοπιᾷ (do they labor), οὐδὲ (nor) νήθει› (do they spin). λέγω (I say) δὲ (however) ὑμῖν (to you), οὐδὲ (not even) Σολομὼν (Solomon) ἐν (in) πάσῃ (all) τῇ (the) δόξῃ (glory) αὐτοῦ (of him) περιεβάλετο (was arrayed) ὡς (as) ἓν (one) τούτων (of these). ²⁸ εἰ (If) δὲ (however) ἐν (in the) ἀγρῷ (field) τὸν (the) χόρτον (grass), ὄντα (being here) σήμερον (today) καὶ (and) αὔριον (tomorrow) εἰς (into) κλίβανον (the furnace) βαλλόμενον (being thrown), ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) οὕτως (thus) ἀμφιέζει (clothes), πόσῳ (how much) μᾶλλον (more) ὑμᾶς (you), ὀλιγόπιστοι (O you of little faith)! ²⁹ Καὶ (And) ὑμεῖς (you) μὴ (not) ζητεῖτε (seek) τί (what) φάγητε (you might eat), καὶ (and) τί (what) πίητε (you might drink), καὶ (and) μὴ (not) μετεωρίζεσθε (be in suspense); ³⁰ ταῦτα (these things) γὰρ (for) πάντα (all) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (nations) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world) ἐπιζητοῦσιν (seek after); ὑμῶν (of you) δὲ (now) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) οἶδεν (knows) ὅτι (that) χρῄζετε (you have need) τούτων (of these). ³¹ πλὴν (But) ζητεῖτε (seek you) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) ταῦτα (these things) προστεθήσεται (will be added) ὑμῖν (to you).

⁴⁵ Ἐὰν (If) δὲ (however) εἴπῃ (should say) ὁ (the) δοῦλος (servant) ἐκεῖνος (that) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) καρδίᾳ (heart) αὐτοῦ (of him), ‘Χρονίζει (Delays) ὁ (the) κύριός (master) μου (of Me) ἔρχεσθαι (to come),’ καὶ (and) ἄρξηται (should begin) τύπτειν (to beat) τοὺς (the) παῖδας (men-servants) καὶ (and) τὰς (the) παιδίσκας (maid-servants), ἐσθίειν (to eat) τε (also) καὶ (and) πίνειν (to drink) καὶ (and) μεθύσκεσθαι (to get drunk), ⁴⁶ ἥξει (will come) ὁ (the) κύριος (master) τοῦ (of the) δούλου (servant) ἐκείνου (that) ἐν (in) ἡμέρᾳ (a day) ᾗ (in which) οὐ (not) προσδοκᾷ (he does expect), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) ὥρᾳ (an hour) ᾗ (that) οὐ (not) γινώσκει (he knows), καὶ (and) διχοτομήσει (he will cut in two) αὐτὸν (him) καὶ (and) τὸ (the) μέρος (place) αὐτοῦ (of him) μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) ἀπίστων (unbelievers) θήσει (will appoint).

¹¹ ὁ (The) Φαρισαῖος (Pharisee), σταθεὶς (having stood), ταῦτα (thus) «πρὸς (toward) ἑαυτὸν» (himself) προσηύχετο (was praying), Ὁ (-) ‘Θεός (God), εὐχαριστῶ (I thank) σοι (You) ὅτι (that) οὐκ (not) εἰμὶ (I am) ὥσπερ (like) οἱ (the) λοιποὶ (rest) τῶν (of the) ἀνθρώπων (men) — ἅρπαγες (swindlers), ἄδικοι (unrighteous), μοιχοί (adulterers) — ἢ (or) καὶ (even) ὡς (like) οὗτος (this) ὁ (-) τελώνης (tax collector).

³⁴ Προσέχετε (Take heed) δὲ (now) ἑαυτοῖς (to yourselves), μή‿ (lest) ποτε (ever) βαρηθῶσιν (be burdened) ὑμῶν (of you) αἱ (the) καρδίαι (hearts) ἐν (with) κραιπάλῃ (dissipation) καὶ (and) μέθῃ (drunkenness) καὶ (and) μερίμναις (cares) βιωτικαῖς (of life) — καὶ (and) ἐπιστῇ (would come) ἐφ’ (upon) ὑμᾶς (you) αἰφνίδιος (suddenly) ἡ (the) ἡμέρα (day) ἐκείνη (that) ὡς (as) παγίς (a snare).

¹⁷ Ἀπῆλθεν (Went away) δὲ (then) Ἁνανίας (Ananias) καὶ (and) εἰσῆλθεν (entered) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) οἰκίαν (house); καὶ (and) ἐπιθεὶς (having laid) ἐπ’ (upon) αὐτὸν (him) τὰς (the) χεῖρας (hands), εἶπεν (he said), “Σαοὺλ (Saul) ἀδελφέ (Brother), ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) ἀπέσταλκέν (has sent) με (me), Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), ὁ (the One) ὀφθείς (having appeared) σοι (to you) ἐν (on) τῇ (the) ὁδῷ (road) ᾗ (by which) ἤρχου (you were coming), ὅπως (that) ἀναβλέψῃς (you may see again) καὶ (and) πλησθῇς (be filled) Πνεύματος (of the Spirit) Ἁγίου (Holy).”

¹³ ὡς (As) ἐν (in) ἡμέρᾳ (daytime), εὐσχημόνως (properly) περιπατήσωμεν (we should walk), μὴ (not) κώμοις (in reveling) καὶ (and) μέθαις (drinking), μὴ (not) κοίταις (in sexual immorality) καὶ (and) ἀσελγείαις (sensuality), μὴ (not) ἔριδι (in dissension) καὶ (and) ζήλῳ (jealousy).

¹⁷ Παρακαλῶ (I exhort) δὲ (now) ὑμᾶς (you), ἀδελφοί (brothers), σκοπεῖν (to watch out for) τοὺς (those) τὰς (-) διχοστασίας (divisions) καὶ (and) τὰ (-) σκάνδαλα (obstacles) παρὰ (contrary to) τὴν (the) διδαχὴν (teaching) ἣν (that) ὑμεῖς (you) ἐμάθετε (have learned) ποιοῦντας (causing), καὶ (and) ἐκκλίνετε (turn away) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτῶν (them).

¹ Ὅλως (Actually) ἀκούεται (is reported) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you) πορνεία (sexual immorality), καὶ (and) τοιαύτη (such) πορνεία (sexual immorality) ἥτις (as) οὐδὲ (not even) ἐν (among) τοῖς (the) ἔθνεσιν (pagans), ὥστε (so as for) γυναῖκά (the wife) τινα (one) τοῦ (of the) πατρὸς (father) ἔχειν (to have). ² καὶ (And) ὑμεῖς (you) πεφυσιωμένοι (puffed up) ἐστέ (are), καὶ (and) οὐχὶ (not) μᾶλλον (rather) ἐπενθήσατε (have mourned), ἵνα (so that) ἀρθῇ (might be taken) ἐκ (out of) μέσου (midst) ὑμῶν (of you) ὁ (the one) τὸ (the) ἔργον (deed) τοῦτο (this) πράξας (having done)! ³ Ἐγὼ (I) μὲν (indeed), γάρ (though) ἀπὼν (being absent) τῷ (-) σώματι (in body), παρὼν (being present) δὲ (now) τῷ (-) πνεύματι (in spirit), ἤδη (already) κέκρικα (have judged) ὡς (as) παρὼν (being present) τὸν (the one) οὕτως (so) τοῦτο (this) κατεργασάμενον (having produced), ⁴ ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ‹ἡμῶν› (our) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) συναχθέντων (having been gathered together) ὑμῶν (you), καὶ (and) τοῦ (-) ἐμοῦ (of me) πνεύματος (in spirit), σὺν (with) τῇ (the) δυνάμει (power) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), ⁵ παραδοῦναι (to deliver) τὸν (-) τοιοῦτον (such a one) τῷ (-) Σατανᾷ (to Satan) εἰς (for) ὄλεθρον (destruction) τῆς (of the) σαρκός (flesh), ἵνα (so that) τὸ (the) πνεῦμα (spirit) σωθῇ (may be saved) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord). ⁶ Οὐ (Not) καλὸν (good is) τὸ (the) καύχημα (boasting) ὑμῶν (of you). οὐκ (Not) οἴδατε (know you) ὅτι (that) μικρὰ (a little) ζύμη (leaven) ὅλον (all) τὸ (the) φύραμα (lump) ζυμοῖ (leavens)? ⁷ ἐκκαθάρατε (Cleanse out) τὴν (the) παλαιὰν (old) ζύμην (leaven), ἵνα (that) ἦτε (you may be) νέον (a new) φύραμα (lump), καθώς (as) ἐστε (you are), ἄζυμοι (unleavened). καὶ (Also) γὰρ (for) τὸ (the) πάσχα (Passover lamb) ἡμῶν (of us) ἐτύθη (has been sacrificed), Χριστός (Christ), ⁸ ὥστε (so that) ἑορτάζωμεν (we might celebrate the feast), μὴ (not) ἐν (with) ζύμῃ (leaven) παλαιᾷ (old), μηδὲ (not) ἐν (with) ζύμῃ (leaven) κακίας (of malice) καὶ (and) πονηρίας (wickedness), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐν (with) ἀζύμοις (unleavened bread) εἰλικρινείας (of sincerity) καὶ (and) ἀληθείας (of truth). ⁹ Ἔγραψα (I wrote) ὑμῖν (to you) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἐπιστολῇ (letter) μὴ (not) συναναμίγνυσθαι (to associate with) πόρνοις (the sexually immoral), ¹⁰ οὐ (not) πάντως (altogether) τοῖς (with the) πόρνοις (sexually immoral) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) τούτου (of this), ἢ (or) τοῖς (with the) πλεονέκταις (covetous) καὶ (and) ἅρπαξιν (swindlers), ἢ (or) εἰδωλολάτραις (idolaters) — ἐπεὶ (since) ὠφείλετε (you would need) ἄρα (then) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) ἐξελθεῖν (to depart).

⁶ ἀλλὰ (Instead), ἀδελφὸς (brother) μετὰ (against) ἀδελφοῦ (brother) κρίνεται (goes to law), καὶ (and) τοῦτο (this) ἐπὶ (before) ἀπίστων (unbelievers)!

¹⁰ οὔτε (nor) κλέπται (thieves), οὔτε (nor) πλεονέκται (coveters), οὐ (not) μέθυσοι (drunkards), οὐ (nor) λοίδοροι (verbal abusers), οὐχ (nor) ἅρπαγες (swindlers), βασιλείαν (the kingdom) Θεοῦ (of God) κληρονομήσουσιν (will inherit).

¹² Τοῖς (To the) δὲ (now) λοιποῖς (rest) λέγω (I say)— ἐγώ (I) οὐχ (not) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord): εἴ (If) τις (any) ἀδελφὸς (brother) γυναῖκα (a wife) ἔχει (has) ἄπιστον (unbelieving), καὶ (and) αὕτη (she) συνευδοκεῖ (consents) οἰκεῖν (to dwell) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (him), μὴ (not) ἀφιέτω (let him divorce) αὐτήν (her).

¹⁵ Εἰ (If) δὲ (however) ὁ (the) ἄπιστος (unbeliever) χωρίζεται (separates himself), χωριζέσθω (let him separate himself); οὐ (not) δεδούλωται (is under bondage) ὁ (the) ἀδελφὸς (brother) ἢ (or) ἡ (the) ἀδελφὴ (sister) ἐν (in) τοῖς (-) τοιούτοις (such cases). ἐν (Into) δὲ (however) εἰρήνῃ (peace) κέκληκεν (has called) ὑμᾶς* (you) ὁ (-) Θεός (God).

¹¹ ἀπόλλυται (Is destroyed) γὰρ (for) ὁ (the one) ἀσθενῶν (being weak) ἐν (through) τῇ (-) σῇ (your) γνώσει (knowledge), ὁ (the) ἀδελφὸς (brother) δι’ (for) ὃν (whom) Χριστὸς (Christ) ἀπέθανεν (died).

⁷ μηδὲ (Neither) εἰδωλολάτραι (idolaters) γίνεσθε (are you to be), καθώς (as) τινες (some) αὐτῶν (of them); ὥσπερ (as) γέγραπται (it has been written): “Ἐκάθισεν (Sat down) ὁ (the) λαὸς (people) φαγεῖν (to eat) καὶ (and) πεῖν (to drink), καὶ (and) ἀνέστησαν (rose up) παίζειν (to play).” ⁸ μηδὲ (Neither) πορνεύωμεν (should we commit sexual immorality), καθώς (as) τινες (some) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐπόρνευσαν (committed sexual immorality), καὶ (and) ἔπεσαν (fell) μιᾷ (in one) ἡμέρᾳ (day) εἰκοσι (twenty) τρεῖς (three) χιλιάδες (thousand).

¹⁴ Διόπερ (Therefore), ἀγαπητοί (beloved) μου (of me), φεύγετε (flee) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (-) εἰδωλολατρίας (idolatry).

¹⁸ βλέπετε (Consider) τὸν (-) Ἰσραὴλ (Israel) κατὰ (according to) σάρκα (flesh): οὐχ (Not) οἱ (those) ἐσθίοντες (eating) τὰς (the) θυσίας (sacrifices), κοινωνοὶ (fellow partakers) τοῦ (in the) θυσιαστηρίου (altar) εἰσίν (are)? ¹⁹ Τί (What) οὖν (then) φημι (do I mean)? ὅτι (That) εἰδωλόθυτόν (what is sacrificed to an idol) τί (anything) ἐστιν (is), ἢ (or) ὅτι (that) εἴδωλόν (an idol) τί (anything) ἐστιν (is)? ²⁰ ἀλλ’ (Rather) ὅτι (that) ἃ (what) θύουσιν (sacrifice) (τὰ (the) ἔθνη) (Gentiles), δαιμονίοις (to demons) καὶ (and) οὐ (not) Θεῷ (to God) θύουσιν (they sacrifice). οὐ (Not) θέλω (I do wish) δὲ (now), ὑμᾶς (you) κοινωνοὺς (fellow partakers) τῶν (-) δαιμονίων (with demons) γίνεσθαι (to be). ²¹ οὐ (Not) δύνασθε (you are able) ποτήριον (the cup) Κυρίου (of the Lord) πίνειν (to drink), καὶ (and) ποτήριον (the cup) δαιμονίων (of demons). οὐ (Not) δύνασθε (you are able) τραπέζης (of the table) Κυρίου (of the Lord) μετέχειν (to partake), καὶ (and) τραπέζης (of the table) δαιμονίων (of demons). ²² ἢ (Or) παραζηλοῦμεν (do we provoke to jealousy) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord)? μὴ (Not) ἰσχυρότεροι (stronger) αὐτοῦ (than He) ἐσμεν (are we)?

²¹ ἕκαστος (One) γὰρ (for) τὸ (the) ἴδιον (own) δεῖπνον (supper) προλαμβάνει (takes first) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) φαγεῖν (eating); καὶ (and) ὃς (this one) μὲν (indeed) πεινᾷ (is hungry), ὃς (that one) δὲ (however) μεθύει (is drunken).

¹² πρὸ (Before) τοῦ (-) γὰρ (for), ἐλθεῖν (came) τινας (certain ones) ἀπὸ (from) Ἰακώβου (James), μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) ἐθνῶν (Gentiles) συνήσθιεν (he was eating); ὅτε (when) δὲ (however) ἦλθον (they came), ὑπέστελλεν (he was drawing back) καὶ (and) ἀφώριζεν (was separating) ἑαυτόν (himself), φοβούμενος (being afraid of) τοὺς (those) ἐκ (of) περιτομῆς (the circumcision).

¹⁹ Φανερὰ (Evident) δέ (now) ἐστιν (are) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) τῆς (of the) σαρκός (flesh), ἅτινά (which) ἐστιν (are) πορνεία (sexual immorality), ἀκαθαρσία (impurity), ἀσέλγεια (sensuality), ²⁰ εἰδωλολατρία (idolatry), φαρμακεία (sorcery), ἔχθραι (enmities), ἔρις (strife), ζῆλος (jealousy), θυμοί (outbursts of anger), ἐριθεῖαι (contentions), διχοστασίαι (dissensions), αἱρέσεις (factions), ²¹ φθόνοι (envyings), μέθαι (drunkennesses), κῶμοι (carousing), καὶ (and) τὰ (things) ὅμοια (like) τούτοις (these), ἃ (as to which) προλέγω (I forewarn) ὑμῖν (you), καθὼς (even as) προεῖπον (I warned before), ὅτι (that) οἱ (those) τὰ (such) τοιαῦτα (things) πράσσοντες (doing), βασιλείαν (kingdom) Θεοῦ (God’s) οὐ (not) κληρονομήσουσιν (will inherit).

⁵ τοῦτο (This) γὰρ (for) ἴστε (you know), γινώσκοντες (realizing) ὅτι (that) πᾶς (any) πόρνος (fornicator), ἢ (or) ἀκάθαρτος (unclean person), ἢ (or) πλεονέκτης (covetous man), ὅ (who) ἐστιν (is) εἰδωλολάτρης (an idolater), οὐκ (not) ἔχει (has) κληρονομίαν (inheritance) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) βασιλείᾳ (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), καὶ (and) Θεοῦ (of God).

¹⁸ καὶ (And) μὴ (not) μεθύσκεσθε (to be drunk) οἴνῳ (with wine), ἐν (in) ᾧ (which) ἐστιν (is) ἀσωτία (debauchery). ἀλλὰ (Instead) πληροῦσθε (be filled) ἐν (with) Πνεύματι (the Spirit),

³ Τοῦτο (This) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (is) θέλημα (the will) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ὁ (the) ἁγιασμὸς (sanctification) ὑμῶν (of you): ἀπέχεσθαι (To abstain) ὑμᾶς (you are) ἀπὸ (from) τῆς (-) πορνείας (sexual immorality); ⁴ εἰδέναι (to know) ἕκαστον (each) ὑμῶν (of you how) τὸ (the) ἑαυτοῦ (of himself) σκεῦος (vessel) κτᾶσθαι (to control) ἐν (in) ἁγιασμῷ (holiness) καὶ (and) τιμῇ (honor), ⁵ μὴ (not) ἐν (in) πάθει (the passion) ἐπιθυμίας (of lust), καθάπερ (as) καὶ (also) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (Gentiles), τὰ (-) μὴ (not) εἰδότα (knowing) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God); ⁶ τὸ (-) μὴ (not) ὑπερβαίνειν (to go beyond) καὶ (and) πλεονεκτεῖν (to overreach) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) πράγματι (matter), τὸν (the) ἀδελφὸν (brother) αὐτοῦ (of him), διότι (because) ἔκδικος (avenging is) Κύριος (the Lord) περὶ (concerning) πάντων (all) τούτων (these things), καθὼς (just as) καὶ (also) προείπαμεν (we told before) ὑμῖν (you), καὶ (and) διεμαρτυράμεθα (thoroughly warned). ⁷ οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ἐκάλεσεν (has called) ἡμᾶς (us) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἐπὶ (to) ἀκαθαρσίᾳ (impurity), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐν (into) ἁγιασμῷ (holiness). ⁸ τοιγαροῦν (So then), ὁ (the one) ἀθετῶν (rejecting this), οὐκ (not) ἄνθρωπον (man) ἀθετεῖ (disregards), ἀλλὰ (but) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God), τὸν (the One) καὶ (also) διδόντα (giving) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) αὐτοῦ (of Him) τὸ (-) ἅγιον (Holy) εἰς (to) ὑμᾶς (you).

⁷ οἱ (Those) γὰρ (for) καθεύδοντες (sleeping), νυκτὸς (by night) καθεύδουσιν (sleep); καὶ (and) οἱ (those) μεθυσκόμενοι (becoming drunk), νυκτὸς (by night) μεθύουσιν (get drunk). ⁸ ἡμεῖς (We) δὲ (however), ἡμέρας (of the day) ὄντες (being), νήφωμεν (should be sober), ἐνδυσάμενοι (having put on) θώρακα (the breastplate) πίστεως (of faith) καὶ (and) ἀγάπης (love), καὶ (and) περικεφαλαίαν (the helmet) ἐλπίδα (the hope) σωτηρίας (of salvation),

³ μὴ (not) πάροινον (given to wine), μὴ (not) πλήκτην (a striker), ἀλλὰ (but) ἐπιεικῆ (gentle), ἄμαχον (peaceable), ἀφιλάργυρον (not loving money),

⁵ διαπαρατριβαὶ (and constant frictions) διεφθαρμένων (corrupted) ἀνθρώπων (among men) τὸν (-) νοῦν (in mind), καὶ (and) ἀπεστερημένων (destitute) τῆς (of the) ἀληθείας (truth), νομιζόντων (holding) πορισμὸν (a means of gain) εἶναι (to be) τὴν (-) εὐσέβειαν (godliness).

⁹ Οἱ (Those) δὲ (however) βουλόμενοι (desiring) πλουτεῖν (to be rich) ἐμπίπτουσιν (fall) εἰς (into) πειρασμὸν (temptation) καὶ (and) παγίδα (a snare), καὶ (and) ἐπιθυμίας (desires) πολλὰς (many) ἀνοήτους (foolish) καὶ (and) βλαβεράς (harmful), αἵτινες (which) βυθίζουσιν (plunge) τοὺς (-) ἀνθρώπους (men) εἰς (into) ὄλεθρον (ruin) καὶ (and) ἀπώλειαν (destruction). ¹⁰ ῥίζα (A root) γὰρ (for) πάντων (of all kinds) τῶν (-) κακῶν (of evils) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) φιλαργυρία (love of money), ἧς (which) τινες (some) ὀρεγόμενοι (stretching after) ἀπεπλανήθησαν (have been seduced) ἀπὸ (away from) τῆς (the) πίστεως (faith), καὶ (and) ἑαυτοὺς (themselves) περιέπειραν (have pierced) ὀδύναις (with sorrows) πολλαῖς (many).

¹⁴ ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) ἔχοντες (having) μεστοὺς (full) μοιχαλίδος (of adultery), καὶ (and) ἀκαταπαύστους (unceasing) ἁμαρτίας (from sin), δελεάζοντες (enticing) ψυχὰς (souls) ἀστηρίκτους (unestablished); καρδίαν (a heart) γεγυμνασμένην (having been exercised) πλεονεξίας (in craving) ἔχοντες (having)— κατάρας (of a curse) τέκνα (children)! ¹⁵ Καταλιπόντες (Having left) εὐθεῖαν (the straight) ὁδὸν (way), ἐπλανήθησαν (they have gone astray), ἐξακολουθήσαντες (having followed) τῇ (in the) ὁδῷ (way) τοῦ (-) Βαλαὰμ (of Balaam) τοῦ (-) Βοσὸρ* (son of Bosor), ὃς (who) μισθὸν (the wage) ἀδικίας (of unrighteousness) ἠγάπησεν (loved);

¹⁰ Εἴ (If) τις (anyone) ἔρχεται (comes) πρὸς (to) ὑμᾶς (you) καὶ (and) ταύτην (this) τὴν (-) διδαχὴν (teaching) οὐ (not) φέρει (does bring), μὴ (not) λαμβάνετε (receive) αὐτὸν (him) εἰς (into) οἰκίαν (the house), καὶ (and) χαίρειν (to rejoice) αὐτῷ (him) μὴ (not) λέγετε (tell);

¹⁴ Ἀλλ’ (But) ἔχω (I have) κατὰ (against) σοῦ (you) ὀλίγα (a few things), ὅτι (because) ἔχεις (you have) ἐκεῖ (some there) κρατοῦντας (holding) τὴν (the) διδαχὴν (teaching) Βαλαάμ (of Balaam), ὃς (who) ἐδίδασκεν (would teach) τῷ (-) Βαλὰκ (Balak) βαλεῖν (to cast) σκάνδαλον (a snare) ἐνώπιον (before) τῶν (the) υἱῶν (sons) Ἰσραήλ (of Israel), φαγεῖν (to eat) εἰδωλόθυτα (things sacrificed to idols), καὶ (and) πορνεῦσαι (to commit sexual immorality).

²⁰ Ἀλλὰ (But) ἔχω (I have) κατὰ (against) σοῦ (you) ὅτι (that) ἀφεῖς (you tolerate) τὴν (the) γυναῖκα (woman) Ἰεζάβελ (Jezebel), ἡ (the one) λέγουσα (calling) ἑαυτὴν (herself) προφῆτιν (a prophetess) καὶ (and) διδάσκει (teaching) καὶ (and) πλανᾷ (misleading) τοὺς (-) ἐμοὺς (My) δούλους (servants) πορνεῦσαι (to commit sexual immorality), καὶ (and) φαγεῖν (to eat) εἰδωλόθυτα (things sacrificed to idols).

¹⁵ ἔξω (Outside are) οἱ (the) κύνες (dogs), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) φάρμακοι (sorcerers), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) πόρνοι (sexually immoral), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) φονεῖς (murderers), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) εἰδωλολάτραι (idolaters), καὶ (and) πᾶς (everyone) φιλῶν (loving) καὶ (and) ποιῶν (practicing) ψεῦδος (falsehood).

¹¹ Καὶ (And) ἔλεγεν (He was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ὑμῖν (To you) τὸ (the) μυστήριον (mystery) δέδοται (has been given) τῆς (of the) βασιλείας (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). ἐκείνοις (To those) δὲ (however) τοῖς (who are) ἔξω (outside), ἐν (in) παραβολαῖς (parables) τὰ (-) πάντα (everything) γίνεται (is done),

¹⁴ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτῷ (to him), “Ἄνθρωπε (Man), τίς (who) με (Me) κατέστησεν (appointed) κριτὴν (a judge) ἢ (or) μεριστὴν (partitioner) ἐφ’ (over) ὑμᾶς (you)?”

³⁶ Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Ἡ (The) βασιλεία (kingdom) ἡ (-) ἐμὴ (My) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) τούτου (this); εἰ (if) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) τούτου (this) ἦν (were) ἡ (-) βασιλεία (kingdom) ἡ (-) ἐμή (My), οἱ (-) ὑπηρέται (attendants) ἄν (-) «οἱ (-) ἐμοὶ (My) ἠγωνίζοντο» (would fight) ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) παραδοθῶ (I might be betrayed) τοῖς (to the) Ἰουδαίοις (Jews). νῦν (Now) δὲ (however) ἡ (-) βασιλεία (kingdom) ἡ (-) ἐμὴ (My) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) ἐντεῦθεν (from here).”

³ Ἐγὼ (I) μὲν (indeed), γάρ (though) ἀπὼν (being absent) τῷ (-) σώματι (in body), παρὼν (being present) δὲ (now) τῷ (-) πνεύματι (in spirit), ἤδη (already) κέκρικα (have judged) ὡς (as) παρὼν (being present) τὸν (the one) οὕτως (so) τοῦτο (this) κατεργασάμενον (having produced), ⁴ ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ‹ἡμῶν› (our) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) συναχθέντων (having been gathered together) ὑμῶν (you), καὶ (and) τοῦ (-) ἐμοῦ (of me) πνεύματος (in spirit), σὺν (with) τῇ (the) δυνάμει (power) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), ⁵ παραδοῦναι (to deliver) τὸν (-) τοιοῦτον (such a one) τῷ (-) Σατανᾷ (to Satan) εἰς (for) ὄλεθρον (destruction) τῆς (of the) σαρκός (flesh), ἵνα (so that) τὸ (the) πνεῦμα (spirit) σωθῇ (may be saved) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord).

¹ Τολμᾷ (Dare) τις (anyone) ὑμῶν (of you), πρᾶγμα (a matter) ἔχων (having) πρὸς (against) τὸν (the) ἕτερον (other), κρίνεσθαι (go to law) ἐπὶ (before) τῶν (the) ἀδίκων (unrighteous), καὶ (and) οὐχὶ (not) ἐπὶ (before) τῶν (the) ἁγίων (saints)? ² ἢ (Or) οὐκ (not) οἴδατε (know you) ὅτι (that) οἱ (the) ἅγιοι (saints) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world) κρινοῦσιν (will judge)? καὶ (And) εἰ (if) ἐν (by) ὑμῖν (you) κρίνεται (is to be judged) ὁ (the) κόσμος (world), ἀνάξιοί (unworthy) ἐστε (are you) κριτηρίων (of cases) ἐλαχίστων (of the smallest)? ³ οὐκ (Not) οἴδατε (know you) ὅτι (that) ἀγγέλους (angels) κρινοῦμεν (we will judge)? μήτιγε (How much more) βιωτικά (the things of this life)? ⁴ Βιωτικὰ (The things of this life) μὲν (indeed) οὖν (so), κριτήρια (judgment as to) ἐὰν (if) ἔχητε (you have), τοὺς (the ones) ἐξουθενημένους (being despised) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἐκκλησίᾳ (church), τούτους (those) καθίζετε (set you up)! ⁵ πρὸς (For) ἐντροπὴν (shame) ὑμῖν (to you) λέγω (I say this). οὕτως (Thus) οὐκ (not) ἔνι (is there) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you) οὐδεὶς (no one), σοφὸς (a wise man), ὃς (who) δυνήσεται (will be able) διακρῖναι (to decide) ἀνὰ (in) μέσον (between) τοῦ (the) ἀδελφοῦ (brother) αὐτοῦ (of him)?

⁵ Ἐν (In) σοφίᾳ (wisdom) περιπατεῖτε (walk) πρὸς (toward) τοὺς (those) ἔξω (outside), τὸν (the) καιρὸν (time) ἐξαγοραζόμενοι (redeeming).

¹² ἵνα (so that) περιπατῆτε (you may walk) εὐσχημόνως (properly) πρὸς (toward) τοὺς (those) ἔξω (outside), καὶ (and) μηδενὸς (of no one) χρείαν (need) ἔχητε (may have).

⁷ δεῖ (It behooves him) δὲ (now) καὶ (also) μαρτυρίαν (a testimony) καλὴν (good) ἔχειν (to have) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (those) ἔξωθεν (outside), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) εἰς (into) ὀνειδισμὸν (reproach) ἐμπέσῃ (he might fall), καὶ (and) παγίδα (the snare) τοῦ (of the) διαβόλου (devil).

³¹ καθότι (because) ἔστησεν (He set) ἡμέραν (a day) ἐν (in) ᾗ (which) μέλλει (He is about) κρίνειν (to judge) τὴν (the) οἰκουμένην (world) ἐν (in) δικαιοσύνῃ (righteousness), ἐν (by) ἀνδρὶ (a man) ᾧ (whom) ὥρισεν (He appointed), πίστιν (a guarantee) παρασχὼν (having provided) πᾶσιν (to all), ἀναστήσας (having raised) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead).”

¹⁶ ἐν (on) 〈ᾗ〉 (that) ἡμέρᾳ (day) ‹ὅτε› (when) κρίνει (will judge) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) τὰ (the) κρυπτὰ (secrets) τῶν (-) ἀνθρώπων (of men), κατὰ (according to) τὸ (the) εὐαγγέλιόν (gospel) μου (of me), διὰ (by) Χριστοῦ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus).

⁵ παραδοῦναι (to deliver) τὸν (-) τοιοῦτον (such a one) τῷ (-) Σατανᾷ (to Satan) εἰς (for) ὄλεθρον (destruction) τῆς (of the) σαρκός (flesh), ἵνα (so that) τὸ (the) πνεῦμα (spirit) σωθῇ (may be saved) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord).

⁴ Τίμιος (Honorable let) ὁ (-) γάμος (marriage be) ἐν (in) πᾶσιν (all), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) κοίτη (marriage bed) ἀμίαντος (undefiled); πόρνους (the sexually immoral) γὰρ (for) καὶ (and) μοιχοὺς (adulterers) κρινεῖ (will judge) ὁ (-) Θεός (God).

⁹ οἶδεν (then knows) Κύριος (the Lord) εὐσεβεῖς (the devout) ἐκ (out of) πειρασμοῦ (temptation) ῥύεσθαι (to deliver); ἀδίκους (the unrighteous) δὲ (then) εἰς (unto) ἡμέραν (the day) κρίσεως (of judgment) κολαζομένους (being punished) τηρεῖν (to keep);
