²¹ Οὐ (Not) πᾶς (everyone) ὁ (-) λέγων (saying) μοι (to Me), ‘Κύριε (Lord), Κύριε (Lord),’ εἰσελεύσεται (will enter) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens), ἀλλ’ (but) ὁ (the one) ποιῶν (doing) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me), τοῦ (who is) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) οὐρανοῖς (heavens).

⁵⁰ ὅστις (Whoever) γὰρ (for) ἂν (-) ποιήσῃ (shall do) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me) τοῦ (who is) ἐν (in) οὐρανοῖς (the heavens), αὐτός (he) μου (My) ἀδελφὸς (brother) καὶ (and) ἀδελφὴ (sister) καὶ (and) μήτηρ (mother) ἐστίν (is).”

³¹ Τίς (Which) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) δύο (two) ἐποίησεν (did) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (of the) πατρός (father)?” Λέγουσιν (They say), “Ὁ (The) πρῶτος* (first).” Λέγει (Says) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) οἱ (the) τελῶναι (tax collectors) καὶ (and) αἱ (the) πόρναι (prostitutes) προάγουσιν (go before) ὑμᾶς (you) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).

³⁵ ὃς (Whoever) ‹γὰρ› (for) ἂν (-) ποιήσῃ (shall do) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), οὗτος (he) ἀδελφός (brother) μου (of Me), καὶ (and) ἀδελφὴ (sister), καὶ (and) μήτηρ (mother) ἐστίν (is).”

¹³ οἳ (who) οὐκ (not) ἐξ (of) αἱμάτων (blood), οὐδὲ (nor) ἐκ (of) θελήματος (will) σαρκὸς (of flesh), οὐδὲ (nor) ἐκ (of) θελήματος (will) ἀνδρὸς (of man), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐκ (of) Θεοῦ (God) ἐγεννήθησαν (were born).

¹⁷ ἐάν (If) τις (anyone) θέλῃ (desires) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ποιεῖν (to do), γνώσεται (he will know) περὶ (concerning) τῆς (the) διδαχῆς (teaching), πότερον (whether) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God) ἐστιν (it is), ἢ (or) ἐγὼ (I) ἀπ’ (from) ἐμαυτοῦ (Myself) λαλῶ (speak).

² μὴ (Never) γένοιτο (may it be)! οἵτινες (Who) ἀπεθάνομεν (we died) τῇ (-) ἁμαρτίᾳ (to sin), πῶς (how) ἔτι (still) ζήσομεν (shall we live) ἐν (in) αὐτῇ (it)?

¹¹ οὕτως (So) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you), λογίζεσθε (consider) ἑαυτοὺς (yourselves) εἶναι (to be) νεκροὺς (dead) μὲν (indeed) τῇ (-) ἁμαρτίᾳ (to sin), ζῶντας (living) δὲ (however) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus).

⁴ Ὥστε (Likewise), ἀδελφοί (brothers) μου (of me), καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you) ἐθανατώθητε (have been put to death) τῷ (to the) νόμῳ (law) διὰ (through) τοῦ (the) σώματος (body) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), εἰς (for) τὸ (-) γενέσθαι (to belong) ὑμᾶς (you) ἑτέρῳ (to another), τῷ (to the One) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead) ἐγερθέντι (having been raised), ἵνα (so that) καρποφορήσωμεν (we should bear fruit) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God).

² καὶ (And) μὴ (not) συσχηματίζεσθε (be conformed) τῷ (to the) αἰῶνι (age) τούτῳ (this), ἀλλὰ (but) μεταμορφοῦσθε (be transformed) τῇ (by the) ἀνακαινώσει (renewing) τοῦ (of the) νοός (mind), εἰς (for) τὸ (-) δοκιμάζειν (to prove) ὑμᾶς (by you), τί (what is) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), τὸ (-) ἀγαθὸν (good) καὶ (and) εὐάρεστον (well-pleasing) καὶ (and) τέλειον (perfect).

⁷ Οὐδεὶς (No one) γὰρ (for) ἡμῶν (of us) ἑαυτῷ (to himself) ζῇ (lives), καὶ (and) οὐδεὶς (no one) ἑαυτῷ (to himself) ἀποθνῄσκει (dies).

¹⁵ καὶ (And) ὑπὲρ (for) πάντων (all) ἀπέθανεν (He died), ἵνα (that) οἱ (those) ζῶντες (living), μηκέτι (no longer) ἑαυτοῖς (to themselves) ζῶσιν (should live), ἀλλὰ (but) τῷ (to the One) ὑπὲρ (for) αὐτῶν (them) ἀποθανόντι (having died) καὶ (and) ἐγερθέντι (having been raised again).

¹⁷ Τοῦτο (This) οὖν (therefore) λέγω (I say) καὶ (and) μαρτύρομαι (testify) ἐν (in) Κυρίῳ (the Lord): μηκέτι (No longer) ὑμᾶς (are you) περιπατεῖν (to walk) καθὼς (as) καὶ (also) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (Gentiles) περιπατεῖ (are walking), ἐν (in) ματαιότητι (the futility) τοῦ (of the) νοὸς (mind) αὐτῶν (of them),

²² ἀποθέσθαι (Are to have put off) ὑμᾶς (you), κατὰ (concerning) τὴν (the) προτέραν (former) ἀναστροφὴν (way of life), τὸν (the) παλαιὸν (old) ἄνθρωπον (man), τὸν (which) φθειρόμενον (is being corrupted), κατὰ (according to) τὰς (its) ἐπιθυμίας (desires) τῆς (-) ἀπάτης (of deceit), ²³ ἀνανεοῦσθαι (to be renewed) δὲ (then) τῷ (in the) πνεύματι (spirit) τοῦ (of the) νοὸς (mind) ὑμῶν (of you), ²⁴ καὶ (and) ἐνδύσασθαι (to have put on) τὸν (the) καινὸν (new) ἄνθρωπον (man), τὸν (-) κατὰ (according to) Θεὸν (God) κτισθέντα (having been created) ἐν (in) δικαιοσύνῃ (righteousness) καὶ (and) ὁσιότητι (holiness) τῆς (-) ἀληθείας (of truth).

⁷ μὴ (Not) οὖν (therefore) γίνεσθε (be) συμμέτοχοι (partakers) αὐτῶν (with them). ⁸ Ἦτε (You were) γάρ (for) ποτε (once) σκότος (darkness); νῦν (now) δὲ (however), φῶς (light) ἐν (in) Κυρίῳ (the Lord); ὡς (as) τέκνα (children) φωτὸς (of light) περιπατεῖτε (walk)—

¹⁷ διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this), μὴ (not) γίνεσθε (be) ἄφρονες (foolish), ἀλλὰ (but) συνίετε (understand) τί (what) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord is).

⁶ μὴ (not) κατ’ (with) ὀφθαλμοδουλίαν (eye-service) ὡς (as) ἀνθρωπάρεσκοι (men-pleasers), ἀλλ’ (but) ὡς (as) δοῦλοι (servants of) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ποιοῦντες (doing) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐκ (from) ψυχῆς (the heart),

⁹ Διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this) καὶ (also) ἡμεῖς (we) ἀφ’ (from) ἧς (the) ἡμέρας (day) ἠκούσαμεν (we heard), οὐ (not) παυόμεθα (cease) ὑπὲρ (for) ὑμῶν (you) προσευχόμενοι (praying) καὶ (and) αἰτούμενοι (asking) ἵνα (that) πληρωθῆτε (you may be filled with) τὴν (the) ἐπίγνωσιν (knowledge) τοῦ (of the) θελήματος (will) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἐν (in) πάσῃ (all) σοφίᾳ (wisdom) καὶ (and) συνέσει (understanding) πνευματικῇ (spiritual),

⁷ ἐν (in) οἷς (which) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you) περιεπατήσατέ (walked) ποτε (once) ὅτε (when) ἐζῆτε (you were living) ἐν (in) τούτοις (them). ⁸ νυνὶ (Now) δὲ (however), ἀπόθεσθε (put off) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you) τὰ (-) πάντα (all these things): ὀργήν (anger), θυμόν (rage), κακίαν (malice), βλασφημίαν (slander), αἰσχρολογίαν (foul language) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) στόματος (mouth) ὑμῶν (of you).

¹⁸ ἐν (In) παντὶ (everything) εὐχαριστεῖτε (give thanks); τοῦτο (this) γὰρ (for) θέλημα (is the will) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐν (in) Χριστῷ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) εἰς (toward) ὑμᾶς (you).

³ Ἦμεν (Were) γάρ (for) ποτε (once) καὶ (also) ἡμεῖς (we ourselves) ἀνόητοι (foolish), ἀπειθεῖς (disobedient), πλανώμενοι (being deceived), δουλεύοντες (serving) ἐπιθυμίαις (lusts) καὶ (and) ἡδοναῖς (pleasures) ποικίλαις (various), ἐν (in) κακίᾳ (malice) καὶ (and) φθόνῳ (envy) διάγοντες (living), στυγητοί (hateful), μισοῦντες (hating) ἀλλήλους (one another). ⁴ Ὅτε (When) δὲ (however) ἡ (the) χρηστότης (kindness) καὶ (and) ἡ (the) φιλανθρωπία (love of mankind) ἐπεφάνη (appeared), τοῦ (of the) Σωτῆρος (Savior) ἡμῶν (of us), Θεοῦ (God), ⁵ οὐκ (not) ἐξ (by) ἔργων (works) τῶν (-) ἐν (in) δικαιοσύνῃ (righteousness) ἃ (that) ἐποιήσαμεν (did) ἡμεῖς (we), ἀλλὰ (but) κατὰ (according to) τὸ (-) αὐτοῦ (His) ἔλεος (mercy), ἔσωσεν (He saved) ἡμᾶς (us) διὰ (through) λουτροῦ (the washing) παλινγενεσίας (of regeneration) καὶ (and) ἀνακαινώσεως (renewing) Πνεύματος (of the Spirit) Ἁγίου (Holy), ⁶ οὗ (whom) ἐξέχεεν (He poured out) ἐφ’ (on) ἡμᾶς (us) πλουσίως (richly) διὰ (through) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), τοῦ (the) Σωτῆρος (Savior) ἡμῶν (of us), ⁷ ἵνα (so that), δικαιωθέντες (having been justified) τῇ (-) ἐκείνου (by that) χάριτι (grace), κληρονόμοι (heirs) γενηθῶμεν (we should become) κατ’ (according to) ἐλπίδα (the hope) ζωῆς (of life) αἰωνίου (eternal). ⁸ Πιστὸς (Trustworthy is) ὁ (the) λόγος (saying), καὶ (and) περὶ (concerning) τούτων (these things) βούλομαί (I want) σε (you) διαβεβαιοῦσθαι (to affirm strongly), ἵνα (so that) φροντίζωσιν (may take care) καλῶν (good) ἔργων (works) προΐστασθαι (to be devoted to), οἱ (those) πεπιστευκότες (believing) Θεῷ (God). ταῦτά (These things) ἐστιν (are) καλὰ (excellent) καὶ (and) ὠφέλιμα (profitable) τοῖς (-) ἀνθρώποις (to men).

²¹ καταρτίσαι (equip) ὑμᾶς (you) ἐν (in) παντὶ (everything) ἀγαθῷ (good), εἰς (in order) τὸ (-) ποιῆσαι (to do) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ποιῶν (working) ἐν (in) ἡμῖν (us) τὸ (that which is) εὐάρεστον (well pleasing) ἐνώπιον (before) αὐτοῦ (Him), διὰ (through) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ᾧ (to whom be) ἡ (the) δόξα (glory) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages). ἀμήν (Amen).

¹⁸ βουληθεὶς (Having willed it), ἀπεκύησεν (He brought forth) ἡμᾶς (us) λόγῳ (by the word) ἀληθείας (of truth), εἰς (for) τὸ (-) εἶναι (to be) ἡμᾶς (us) ἀπαρχήν (firstfruits) τινα (a certain) τῶν (-) αὐτοῦ (of His) κτισμάτων (creatures).

¹⁴ ὡς (as) τέκνα (children) ὑπακοῆς (of obedience), μὴ (not) συσχηματιζόμενοι (fashioning yourselves) ταῖς (to the) πρότερον (former) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἀγνοίᾳ (ignorance) ὑμῶν (of you) ἐπιθυμίαις (desires).

¹ Ἀποθέμενοι (Having put aside) οὖν (therefore) πᾶσαν (all) κακίαν (malice), καὶ (and) πάντα (all) δόλον (deceit), καὶ (and) ὑποκρίσεις (hypocrisy), καὶ (and) φθόνους (envies), καὶ (and) πάσας (all) καταλαλιάς (evil speakings),

¹⁴ εἴτε (or) ἡγεμόσιν (to governors), ὡς (as) δι’ (by) αὐτοῦ (him) πεμπομένοις (being sent) εἰς (for) ἐκδίκησιν (vengeance) κακοποιῶν (to evildoers), ἔπαινον (praise) δὲ (then) ἀγαθοποιῶν (to well-doers), ¹⁵ ὅτι (because) οὕτως (this) ἐστὶν (is) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ἀγαθοποιοῦντας (doing good), φιμοῦν (to put to silence) τὴν (the) τῶν (-) ἀφρόνων (of foolish) ἀνθρώπων (men) ἀγνωσίαν (ignorance),
