²² πλεονεξίαι (covetous desires), πονηρίαι (wickednesses), δόλος (deceit), ἀσέλγεια (sensuality), ὀφθαλμὸς (an eye) πονηρός (evil), βλασφημία (slander), ὑπερηφανία (pride), ἀφροσύνη (foolishness).

³⁰ Τοὺς (The) μὲν (indeed) οὖν (therefore) χρόνους (times) τῆς (-) ἀγνοίας (of ignorance) ὑπεριδὼν (having overlooked) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God), τὰ (-) νῦν (now) παραγγέλλει* (He commands) τοῖς (-) ἀνθρώποις (men) πάντας (all) πανταχοῦ (everywhere) μετανοεῖν (to repent),

²⁰ τὰ (The) γὰρ (for) ἀόρατα (invisible qualities) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἀπὸ (from) κτίσεως (the creation) κόσμου (of the world), τοῖς (by the) ποιήμασιν (things made) νοούμενα (being understood), καθορᾶται (are clearly seen), ἥ (the) τε (both) ἀΐδιος (eternal) αὐτοῦ (of Him) δύναμις (power) καὶ (and) θειότης (divinity), εἰς (for) τὸ (-) εἶναι (to be) αὐτοὺς (them) ἀναπολογήτους (without excuse). ²¹ Διότι (For) γνόντες (having known) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God), οὐχ (not) ὡς (as) Θεὸν (God) ἐδόξασαν (they glorified Him), ἢ (or) ηὐχαρίστησαν (were thankful), ἀλλὰ (but) ἐματαιώθησαν (they became futile) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) διαλογισμοῖς (thinking) αὐτῶν (of them), καὶ (and) ἐσκοτίσθη (was darkened) ἡ (the) ἀσύνετος (foolish) αὐτῶν (of them) καρδία (heart). ²² φάσκοντες (Professing) εἶναι (to be) σοφοὶ (wise), ἐμωράνθησαν (they became fools), ²³ καὶ (and) ἤλλαξαν (they changed) τὴν (the) δόξαν (glory) τοῦ (of the) ἀφθάρτου (immortal) Θεοῦ (God) ἐν (into) ὁμοιώματι (a likeness) εἰκόνος (of an image) φθαρτοῦ (of mortal) ἀνθρώπου (man) καὶ (and) πετεινῶν (birds) καὶ (and) τετραπόδων (quadrupeds) καὶ (and) ἑρπετῶν (creeping things). ²⁴ Διὸ (Therefore) παρέδωκεν (gave up) αὐτοὺς (them) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἐπιθυμίαις (desires) τῶν (of the) καρδιῶν (hearts) αὐτῶν (of them) εἰς (to) ἀκαθαρσίαν (impurity) τοῦ (-) ἀτιμάζεσθαι (to dishonor) τὰ (the) σώματα (bodies) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐν (between) αὐτοῖς (themselves), ²⁵ οἵτινες (who) μετήλλαξαν (changed) τὴν (the) ἀλήθειαν (truth) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐν (into) τῷ (the) ψεύδει (falsehood), καὶ (and) ἐσεβάσθησαν (reverenced) καὶ (and) ἐλάτρευσαν (served) τῇ (the) κτίσει (created thing) παρὰ (beyond) τὸν (the One) Κτίσαντα (having created it), ὅς (who) ἐστιν (is) εὐλογητὸς (blessed) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages)! ἀμήν (Amen). ²⁶ Διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this) παρέδωκεν (gave up) αὐτοὺς (them) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) εἰς (to) πάθη (passions) ἀτιμίας (of dishonor). αἵ (-) τε (Even) γὰρ (for) θήλειαι (females) αὐτῶν (of them) μετήλλαξαν (changed) τὴν (the) φυσικὴν (natural) χρῆσιν (use) εἰς (into) τὴν (that) παρὰ (contrary to) φύσιν (nature). ²⁷ ὁμοίως (Likewise) τε (then) καὶ (also) οἱ (the) ἄρσενες (males), ἀφέντες (having left) τὴν (the) φυσικὴν (natural) χρῆσιν (use) τῆς (of the) θηλείας (female), ἐξεκαύθησαν (were inflamed) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ὀρέξει (desire) αὐτῶν (of them) εἰς (toward) ἀλλήλους (one another), ἄρσενες (males) ἐν (with) ἄρσεσιν (males), τὴν (the) ἀσχημοσύνην (shame) κατεργαζόμενοι (working out), καὶ (and) τὴν (the) ἀντιμισθίαν (recompense) ἣν (which) ἔδει (was fitting) τῆς (of the) πλάνης (error) αὐτῶν (of them), ἐν (in) ἑαυτοῖς (themselves) ἀπολαμβάνοντες (receiving). ²⁸ Καὶ (And) καθὼς (as) οὐκ (not) ἐδοκίμασαν (they did see fit) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) ἔχειν (to have) ἐν (in their) ἐπιγνώσει (knowledge), παρέδωκεν (gave up) αὐτοὺς (them) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God) εἰς (to) ἀδόκιμον (a depraved) νοῦν (mind), ποιεῖν (to do) τὰ (things) μὴ (not) καθήκοντα (being proper); ²⁹ πεπληρωμένους (being filled with) πάσῃ (all) ἀδικίᾳ (unrighteousness), πονηρίᾳ (wickedness), πλεονεξίᾳ (covetousness), κακίᾳ (malice); μεστοὺς (full) φθόνου (of envy), φόνου (murder), ἔριδος (strife), δόλου (deceit), κακοηθείας (maliciousness); ψιθυριστάς (gossips), ³⁰ καταλάλους (slanderers), θεοστυγεῖς (hateful to God), ὑβριστάς (insolent), ὑπερηφάνους (arrogant), ἀλαζόνας (boastful); ἐφευρετὰς (inventors) κακῶν (of evil things), γονεῦσιν (to parents) ἀπειθεῖς (disobedient); ³¹ ἀσυνέτους (foolish), ἀσυνθέτους (untrustworthy), ἀστόργους (heartless), ἀνελεήμονας (unmerciful); ³² οἵτινες (who) τὸ (the) δικαίωμα (righteous decree) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐπιγνόντες (having known), ὅτι (that) οἱ (those) τὰ (such) τοιαῦτα (things) πράσσοντες (doing), ἄξιοι (worthy) θανάτου (of death) εἰσίν (are), οὐ (not) μόνον (only) αὐτὰ (them) ποιοῦσιν (are practicing), ἀλλὰ (but) καὶ (also) συνευδοκοῦσιν (are approving of) τοῖς (those) πράσσουσιν (practicing them).

¹² Ἄρα (So) οὖν (then), ἀδελφοί (brothers), ὀφειλέται (debtors) ἐσμέν (we are), οὐ (not) τῇ (to the) σαρκὶ (flesh), τοῦ (-) κατὰ (according to) σάρκα (flesh) ζῆν (to live). ¹³ εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) κατὰ (according to) σάρκα (flesh) ζῆτε (you live), μέλλετε (you are about) ἀποθνήσκειν (to die); εἰ (if) δὲ (however) πνεύματι (by the Spirit) τὰς (the) πράξεις (deeds) τοῦ (of the) σώματος (body) θανατοῦτε (you put to death), ζήσεσθε (you will live).

¹³ ὡς (As) ἐν (in) ἡμέρᾳ (daytime), εὐσχημόνως (properly) περιπατήσωμεν (we should walk), μὴ (not) κώμοις (in reveling) καὶ (and) μέθαις (drinking), μὴ (not) κοίταις (in sexual immorality) καὶ (and) ἀσελγείαις (sensuality), μὴ (not) ἔριδι (in dissension) καὶ (and) ζήλῳ (jealousy).

¹¹ καὶ (And) ταῦτά (such) τινες (some of) ἦτε (you were); ἀλλὰ (but) ἀπελούσασθε (you were washed), ἀλλὰ (but) ἡγιάσθητε (you were sanctified), ἀλλὰ (but) ἐδικαιώθητε (you were justified), ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματι (name) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) καὶ (and) ἐν (by) τῷ (the) Πνεύματι (Spirit) τοῦ (of the) Θεοῦ (God) ἡμῶν (of us).

² Οἴδατε (You know) ὅτι (that) ὅτε (when) ἔθνη (pagans) ἦτε (you were), πρὸς (to) τὰ (-) εἴδωλα (idols) τὰ (-) ἄφωνα (mute), ὡς (even as) ἂν (-) ἤγεσθε (you were led), ἀπαγόμενοι (being carried away).

²¹ μὴ (lest) πάλιν (again) ἐλθόντος (having come) μου (of me), ταπεινώσῃ (should humble) με (me) ὁ (the) Θεός (God) μου (of me) πρὸς (as to) ὑμᾶς (you), καὶ (and) πενθήσω (I should mourn over) πολλοὺς (many) τῶν (of those) προημαρτηκότων (having before sinned) καὶ (and) μὴ (not) μετανοησάντων (having repented) ἐπὶ (of) τῇ (the) ἀκαθαρσίᾳ (impurity) καὶ (and) πορνείᾳ (sexual immorality) καὶ (and) ἀσελγείᾳ (sensuality) ᾗ (that) ἔπραξαν (they have practiced).

¹⁹ Φανερὰ (Evident) δέ (now) ἐστιν (are) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) τῆς (of the) σαρκός (flesh), ἅτινά (which) ἐστιν (are) πορνεία (sexual immorality), ἀκαθαρσία (impurity), ἀσέλγεια (sensuality),

²¹ φθόνοι (envyings), μέθαι (drunkennesses), κῶμοι (carousing), καὶ (and) τὰ (things) ὅμοια (like) τούτοις (these), ἃ (as to which) προλέγω (I forewarn) ὑμῖν (you), καθὼς (even as) προεῖπον (I warned before), ὅτι (that) οἱ (those) τὰ (such) τοιαῦτα (things) πράσσοντες (doing), βασιλείαν (kingdom) Θεοῦ (God’s) οὐ (not) κληρονομήσουσιν (will inherit).

² ἐν (in) αἷς (which) ποτε (once) περιεπατήσατε (you walked), κατὰ (according to) τὸν (the) αἰῶνα (age), τοῦ (the) κόσμου (world) τούτου (of this), κατὰ (according to) τὸν (the) ἄρχοντα (ruler) τῆς (of the) ἐξουσίας (authority) τοῦ (of the) ἀέρος (air), τοῦ (the) πνεύματος (spirit) τοῦ (-) νῦν (now) ἐνεργοῦντος (working) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) υἱοῖς (sons) τῆς (-) ἀπειθείας (of disobedience), ³ ἐν (among) οἷς (whom) καὶ (also) ἡμεῖς (we) πάντες (all) ἀνεστράφημέν (lived) ποτε (once) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) ἐπιθυμίαις (desires) τῆς (of the) σαρκὸς (flesh) ἡμῶν (of us), ποιοῦντες (doing) τὰ (the) θελήματα (things willed) τῆς (of the) σαρκὸς (flesh), καὶ (and) τῶν (of its) διανοιῶν (thoughts); καὶ (and) ἤμεθα (we were) τέκνα (children), φύσει (by nature), ὀργῆς (of wrath), ὡς (as) καὶ (even) οἱ (the) λοιποί (rest).

¹⁷ Τοῦτο (This) οὖν (therefore) λέγω (I say) καὶ (and) μαρτύρομαι (testify) ἐν (in) Κυρίῳ (the Lord): μηκέτι (No longer) ὑμᾶς (are you) περιπατεῖν (to walk) καθὼς (as) καὶ (also) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (Gentiles) περιπατεῖ (are walking), ἐν (in) ματαιότητι (the futility) τοῦ (of the) νοὸς (mind) αὐτῶν (of them), ¹⁸ ἐσκοτωμένοι (being darkened) τῇ (in the) διανοίᾳ (understanding), ὄντες (being) ἀπηλλοτριωμένοι (alienated from) τῆς (the) ζωῆς (life) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), διὰ (because of) τὴν (the) ἄγνοιαν (ignorance) τὴν (-) οὖσαν (being) ἐν (in) αὐτοῖς (them), διὰ (on account of) τὴν (the) πώρωσιν (hardness) τῆς (of the) καρδίας (heart) αὐτῶν (of them), ¹⁹ οἵτινες (who) ἀπηλγηκότες (having cast off all feeling), ἑαυτοὺς (themselves) παρέδωκαν (have given up) τῇ (to) ἀσελγείᾳ (sensuality), εἰς (for) ἐργασίαν (the working) ἀκαθαρσίας (of impurity), πάσης (all) ἐν (with) πλεονεξίᾳ (greediness).

¹⁸ καὶ (And) μὴ (not) μεθύσκεσθε (to be drunk) οἴνῳ (with wine), ἐν (in) ᾧ (which) ἐστιν (is) ἀσωτία (debauchery). ἀλλὰ (Instead) πληροῦσθε (be filled) ἐν (with) Πνεύματι (the Spirit),

⁵ μὴ (not) ἐν (in) πάθει (the passion) ἐπιθυμίας (of lust), καθάπερ (as) καὶ (also) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (Gentiles), τὰ (-) μὴ (not) εἰδότα (knowing) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God);

³ Ἦμεν (Were) γάρ (for) ποτε (once) καὶ (also) ἡμεῖς (we ourselves) ἀνόητοι (foolish), ἀπειθεῖς (disobedient), πλανώμενοι (being deceived), δουλεύοντες (serving) ἐπιθυμίαις (lusts) καὶ (and) ἡδοναῖς (pleasures) ποικίλαις (various), ἐν (in) κακίᾳ (malice) καὶ (and) φθόνῳ (envy) διάγοντες (living), στυγητοί (hateful), μισοῦντες (hating) ἀλλήλους (one another).

¹⁴ ὡς (as) τέκνα (children) ὑπακοῆς (of obedience), μὴ (not) συσχηματιζόμενοι (fashioning yourselves) ταῖς (to the) πρότερον (former) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἀγνοίᾳ (ignorance) ὑμῶν (of you) ἐπιθυμίαις (desires).

⁴ παρεισέδυσαν* (Came in stealthily) γάρ (for) τινες (certain) ἄνθρωποι (men), οἱ (those) πάλαι (long ago) προγεγραμμένοι (having been designated) εἰς (unto) τοῦτο (this) τὸ (-) κρίμα (condemnation), ἀσεβεῖς (ungodly ones), τὴν (the) τοῦ (of the) Θεοῦ (God) ἡμῶν (of us) χάριτα (grace) μετατιθέντες (changing) εἰς (into) ἀσέλγειαν (sensuality), καὶ (and) τὸν (the) μόνον (only) Δεσπότην (master) καὶ (and) Κύριον (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) Χριστὸν (Christ) ἀρνούμενοι (denying).

⁴ καὶ (And) ἡ (the) γυνὴ (woman) ἦν (was) περιβεβλημένη (clothed in) πορφυροῦν (purple) καὶ (and) κόκκινον (scarlet), καὶ (and) κεχρυσωμένη (adorned) χρυσίῳ (with gold) καὶ (and) λίθῳ (stone) τιμίῳ (precious) καὶ (and) μαργαρίταις (pearls), ἔχουσα (holding) ποτήριον (a cup) χρυσοῦν (golden) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) χειρὶ (hand) αὐτῆς (of her), γέμον (being full) βδελυγμάτων (of abominations) καὶ (and) τὰ (the) ἀκάθαρτα (impurity) τῆς (of the) πορνείας (sexual immorality) αὐτῆς (of her). ⁵ καὶ (And) ἐπὶ (upon) τὸ (the) μέτωπον (forehead) αὐτῆς (of her) ὄνομα (a name) γεγραμμένον (was written), μυστήριον (a mystery): ΒΑΒΥΛΩΝ (Babylon) Ο* (the) ΜΕΓΑΛΗ (Great), Ο* (the) ΜΗΤΗΡ (mother) ΤΩΝ (of the) ΠΟΡΝΩΝ (prostitutes), ΚΑΙ (and) ΤΩΝ (of the) ΒΔΕΛΥΓΜΑΤΩΝ (abominations) ΤΗΣ (of the) ΓΗΣ (earth).
