⁹ νῦν (now) δὲ (however), γνόντες (having known) Θεόν (God), μᾶλλον (rather) δὲ (however) γνωσθέντες (having been known) ὑπὸ (by) Θεοῦ (God), πῶς (how) ἐπιστρέφετε (do you turn) πάλιν (again) ἐπὶ (to) τὰ (the) ἀσθενῆ (weak) καὶ (and) πτωχὰ (destitute) στοιχεῖα (principles), οἷς (to which) πάλιν (again) ἄνωθεν (anew) δουλεύειν* (to be enslaved) θέλετε (you desire)?

²⁷ Πάντα (All things) μοι (to Me) παρεδόθη (have been delivered) ὑπὸ (by) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me). καὶ (And) οὐδεὶς (no one) ἐπιγινώσκει (knows) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ὁ (the) Πατήρ (Father); οὐδὲ (nor) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father) τις (anyone) ἐπιγινώσκει (does know), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son), καὶ (and) ᾧ (to whom) ἐὰν (if) βούληται (might choose) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) ἀποκαλύψαι (to reveal Him).

¹⁴ Ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) ὁ (the) ποιμὴν (shepherd) ὁ (-) καλός (good); καὶ (and) γινώσκω (I know) τὰ (-) ἐμὰ (My own), καὶ (and) γινώσκουσί (am known) με (I) τὰ (by) ἐμά (Mine).

²⁷ τὰ (The) πρόβατα (sheep) τὰ (-) ἐμὰ (of Me), τῆς (the) φωνῆς (voice) μου (of Me) ἀκούουσιν (hear), κἀγὼ (and I) γινώσκω (know) αὐτά (them), καὶ (and) ἀκολουθοῦσίν (they follow) μοι (Me);

³ αὕτη (This) δέ (now) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (-) αἰώνιος (eternal) ζωὴ (life), ἵνα (that) γινώσκωσιν (they may know) σὲ (You), τὸν (the) μόνον (only) ἀληθινὸν (true) Θεὸν (God), καὶ (and) ὃν (whom) ἀπέστειλας (You have sent), Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) Χριστόν (Christ).

³ τὸ (-) γὰρ (For) ἀδύνατον (powerless being) τοῦ (the) νόμου (law), ἐν (in) ᾧ (that) ἠσθένει (it was weak) διὰ (through) τῆς (the) σαρκός (flesh), ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God), τὸν (-) ἑαυτοῦ (of Himself) Υἱὸν (Son) πέμψας (having sent), ἐν (in) ὁμοιώματι (likeness) σαρκὸς (of flesh) ἁμαρτίας (of sin), καὶ (and) περὶ (for) ἁμαρτίας (sin), κατέκρινεν (condemned) τὴν (-) ἁμαρτίαν (sin) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) σαρκί (flesh),

²⁹ ὅτι (For) οὓς (those whom) προέγνω (He foreknew), καὶ (also) προώρισεν (He predestined to be) συμμόρφους (conformed to) τῆς (the) εἰκόνος (image) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) αὐτοῦ (of Him), εἰς (for) τὸ (-) εἶναι (to be) αὐτὸν (Him) πρωτότοκον (firstborn) ἐν (among) πολλοῖς (many) ἀδελφοῖς (brothers).

³ εἰ (If) δέ (however) τις (anyone) ἀγαπᾷ (loves) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God), οὗτος (he) ἔγνωσται (is known) ὑπ’ (by) αὐτοῦ (Him).

¹² βλέπομεν (We see) γὰρ (for) ἄρτι (presently), δι’ (through) ἐσόπτρου (a glass) ἐν (in) αἰνίγματι (obscurity); τότε (then) δὲ (however), πρόσωπον (face) πρὸς (to) πρόσωπον (face); ἄρτι (presently), γινώσκω (I know) ἐκ (in) μέρους (part); τότε (then) δὲ (however) ἐπιγνώσομαι (I will know fully), καθὼς (as) καὶ (also) ἐπεγνώσθην (I have been fully known).

³⁴ ἐκνήψατε (Sober up) δικαίως (righteously) καὶ (and) μὴ (not) ἁμαρτάνετε (sin); ἀγνωσίαν (ignorance) γὰρ (for) Θεοῦ (of God) τινες (some) ἔχουσιν (have); πρὸς (to) ἐντροπὴν (the shame) ὑμῖν (of you) λαλῶ (I speak).

⁶ ὅτι (For it is) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God), ὁ (-) εἰπών (having said), “Ἐκ (Out of) σκότους (darkness) φῶς (light) λάμψει (shall shine),” ὃς (who) ἔλαμψεν (shone) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) καρδίαις (hearts) ἡμῶν (of us) πρὸς (for the) φωτισμὸν (radiance) τῆς (of the) γνώσεως (knowledge) τῆς (of the) δόξης (glory) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐν (in) προσώπῳ (the face) [Ἰησοῦ] (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ).

³ Οὕτως (So) ἀνόητοί (foolish) ἐστε (are you)? ἐναρξάμενοι (Having begun) Πνεύματι (in the Spirit), νῦν (now) σαρκὶ (in the flesh) ἐπιτελεῖσθε (are you being perfected)?

¹⁷ ἵνα (that) ὁ (the) Θεὸς (God) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) τῆς (-) δόξης (of glory), δώῃ (may give) ὑμῖν (to you) πνεῦμα (a spirit) σοφίας (of wisdom) καὶ (and) ἀποκαλύψεως (revelation) ἐν (in) ἐπιγνώσει (the knowledge) αὐτοῦ (of Him),

²⁰ Εἰ (If) ἀπεθάνετε (you have died) σὺν (with) Χριστῷ (Christ) ἀπὸ (away from) τῶν (the) στοιχείων (principles) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world), τί (why) ὡς (as if) ζῶντες (living) ἐν (in) κόσμῳ (the world), δογματίζεσθε (do you submit to decrees): ²¹ “Μὴ (Not) ἅψῃ (you should handle)! μηδὲ (Not) γεύσῃ (you should taste)! μηδὲ (Not) θίγῃς (you should touch)!”? — ²² ἅ (which) ἐστιν (are) πάντα (all) εἰς (unto) φθορὰν (decay) τῇ (with the) ἀποχρήσει (use), κατὰ (according to) τὰ (the) ἐντάλματα (commandments) καὶ (and) διδασκαλίας (teachings) τῶν (-) ἀνθρώπων (of men), ²³ ἅτινά (which) ἐστιν (are) λόγον (an appearance) μὲν (indeed) ἔχοντα (having) σοφίας (of wisdom), ἐν (in) ἐθελοθρησκίᾳ (self-imposed worship) καὶ (and) ταπεινοφροσύνῃ (humility) καὶ (and) ἀφειδίᾳ (harsh treatment) σώματος (of the body), οὐκ (not) ἐν (of) τιμῇ (honor) τινι (a certain), πρὸς (against) πλησμονὴν (the indulgence) τῆς (of the) σαρκός (flesh).

¹⁹ Ὁ (-) μέντοι (Nevertheless), στερεὸς (the firm) θεμέλιος (foundation) τοῦ (of) Θεοῦ (God) ἕστηκεν (stands), ἔχων (having) τὴν (the) σφραγῖδα (seal) ταύτην (this): “Ἔγνω (Knows) Κύριος (the Lord) τοὺς (those) ὄντας (being) αὐτοῦ (His),” καί (and), “Ἀποστήτω (Let depart) ἀπὸ (from) ἀδικίας (iniquity) πᾶς (everyone) ὁ (-) ὀνομάζων (naming) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) Κυρίου (of the Lord).”

¹⁸ Ἀθέτησις (A putting away) μὲν (indeed) γὰρ (for) γίνεται (there is) προαγούσης (of the preceding) ἐντολῆς (commandment), διὰ (because of) τὸ (-) αὐτῆς (its) ἀσθενὲς (weakness) καὶ (and) ἀνωφελές (uselessness)—

³⁸ ὁ (The one) δὲ (however) δίκαιός (righteous) μου (of Mine) ἐκ (by) πίστεως (faith) ζήσεται (will live); καὶ (and) ἐὰν (if) ὑποστείληται (he might shrink back), οὐκ (not) εὐδοκεῖ (takes pleasure) ἡ (the) ψυχή (soul) μου (of Me) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (him).” ³⁹ Ἡμεῖς (We) δὲ (however) οὐκ (not) ἐσμὲν (are) ὑποστολῆς (of those drawing back) εἰς (to) ἀπώλειαν (destruction), ἀλλὰ (but) πίστεως (of faith) εἰς (to) περιποίησιν (the preserving) ψυχῆς (of the soul).

²⁰ Εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) ἀποφυγόντες (having escaped) τὰ (the) μιάσματα (pollutions) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world) ἐν (through) ἐπιγνώσει (the knowledge) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) καὶ (and) Σωτῆρος (Savior) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), τούτοις (in these) δὲ (now) πάλιν (again) ἐμπλακέντες (having been entangled) ἡττῶνται (they are subdued), γέγονεν (has become) αὐτοῖς (to them) τὰ (the) ἔσχατα (last state) χείρονα (worse) τῶν (than the) πρώτων (first).

³ Καὶ (And) ἐν (by) τούτῳ (this) γινώσκομεν (we know) ὅτι (that) ἐγνώκαμεν (we have come to know) αὐτόν (Him), ἐὰν (if) τὰς (the) ἐντολὰς (commandments) αὐτοῦ (of Him) τηρῶμεν (we should keep). ⁴ ὁ (The one) λέγων (saying) ὅτι (-), “Ἔγνωκα (I have known) αὐτόν (Him),” καὶ (and) τὰς (the) ἐντολὰς (commandments) αὐτοῦ (of Him) μὴ (not) τηρῶν (keeping), ψεύστης (a liar) ἐστίν (he is), καὶ (and) ἐν (in) τούτῳ (him) ἡ (the) ἀλήθεια (truth) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is).

²⁰ οἴδαμεν (We know) δὲ (now) ὅτι (that) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἥκει (is come), καὶ (and) δέδωκεν (has given) ἡμῖν (us) διάνοιαν (understanding), ἵνα (so that) γινώσκωμεν* (we may know) τὸν (Him who is) ἀληθινόν (true); καὶ (and) ἐσμὲν (we are) ἐν (in) τῷ (Him who is) ἀληθινῷ (true), ἐν (in) τῷ (the) Υἱῷ (Son) αὐτοῦ (of Him), Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστῷ (Christ). οὗτός (He) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) ἀληθινὸς (true) Θεὸς (God) καὶ (and) ζωὴ (life) αἰώνιος (eternal).
