¹ It behooves me to boast; it is not profitable indeed, but I will go on to visions and revelations of the Lord.

⁷ But I tell you the truth, it is profitable for you that I should go away; for unless I go away the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.

¹⁴ Now Caiaphas was the one having given counsel to the Jews that it is profitable for one man to perish for the people.

¹⁰ Now there was a certain disciple in Damascus named Ananias. And the Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias!” And he said, “Behold me, Lord.” ¹¹ And the Lord said to him, “Having risen up, go into the street called Straight, and seek in the house of Judas the one of Tarsus named Saul, for behold, he is praying, ¹² and he saw in a vision a man named Ananias, having come and having put the hands on him, so that he might see again.” ¹³ But Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many concerning this man, how many evils he did to Your saints in Jerusalem. ¹⁴ And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all those calling on Your name.” ¹⁵ But the Lord said to him, “Go, for this man is My vessel of choice to carry My name before the Gentiles, and also kings, and the sons of Israel. ¹⁶ For I will show to him how much it behooves him to suffer for My name.” ¹⁷ And Ananias went away and entered into the house; and having laid the hands upon him, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, the One having appeared to you on the road by which you were coming, has sent me that you may see again and be filled of the Holy Spirit.”

⁹ Now the Lord said to Paul through a vision in the night, “Do not fear, but continue speaking, and do not be silent,

¹⁷ And it happened to me, having returned to Jerusalem and of my praying in the temple, I fell into a trance ¹⁸ and saw Him saying to me, ‘Make haste and go away with speed out of Jerusalem, because they will not receive your testimony about Me.’ ¹⁹ And I said, ‘Lord, they themselves know that in each of those synagogues I was imprisoning and beating those believing on You. ²⁰ And when the blood of Your witness of Stephen was poured out, I myself also was standing by and consenting and watching over the garments of those killing him.’ ²¹ And He said to me, ‘Go, for I will send you far away to the Gentiles.’”

¹¹ But the following night the Lord, having stood by him, said, “Take courage, for as you have fully testified about Me at Jerusalem, so also it behooves you to testify in Rome.”

¹³ at midday on the road, O king, I saw, a light from heaven above, the brightness of the sun, having shone around me and those journeying with me. ¹⁴ And of all of us having fallen down to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me in the Hebrew language, ‘Saul, Saul, why do you persecute Me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’ ¹⁵ Then I said, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And the Lord said, ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. ¹⁶ But rise up and stand on your feet. For I have appeared to you for this purpose, to appoint you a servant and a witness both of that which you have seen of Me, and of the things in which I will appear to you, ¹⁷ delivering you out from the people and from the Gentiles to whom I am sending you, ¹⁸ to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those having been sanctified by faith in Me.’ ¹⁹ So then, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision,

¹² “All things are lawful to me,” but not all things do profit. “All things are lawful to me,” but I will not be mastered by anything.

²³ “All things are lawful,” but not all things are profitable; “All things are lawful,” but not all edify.

¹⁰ And I give a judgment in this matter, for this is profitable for you who not only have begun from a year ago to act, but also to will.

¹⁶ Again I say, no one should think me to be a fool; but if otherwise, receive me even as a fool, that I also may boast a little. ¹⁷ What I am saying in this confidence of boasting, I am not saying according to the Lord, but as in foolishness. ¹⁸ Since many boast according to the flesh, I also will boast. ¹⁹ For being wise, you bear with fools gladly! ²⁰ For you bear it if anyone enslaves you, if anyone devours you, if anyone takes from you, if anyone exalts himself, if anyone strikes you in your face. ²¹ I speak as to dishonor, as that we have been weak! But in whatever anyone might dare—I speak in foolishness—I also am daring. ²² Are they Hebrews? I also. Are they Israelites? I also. Are they descendants of Abraham? I also. ²³ Are they servants of Christ? I speak as being beside myself, I too above measure: more abundantly in labors, more abundantly in imprisonments, in beatings above measure, in deaths often. ²⁴ Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. ²⁵ Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked. I have passed a night and a day in the deep sea; ²⁶ in journeyings often, in perils of rivers, in perils of robbers; in perils from my own race, in perils from the Gentiles; in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness; in perils on the sea, in perils among false brothers; ²⁷ in labor and toil, often in watchings; in hunger and thirst, often in fastings; in cold and nakedness. ²⁸ Besides the external things, the pressure on me on every day is my care for all the churches. ²⁹ Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is led into sin, and I do not burn inwardly? ³⁰ If it behooves me to boast, I will boast in the things of my weakness.

⁷ and the surpassingness of the revelations. Therefore, that I should not become conceited, a thorn in my flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan, that he might buffet me, so that I should not become conceited.

¹¹ I have become a fool; you compelled me. For I ought to have been commended by you, for in no way was I inferior to those “most eminent apostles,” even though I am nothing.

¹² For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but by a revelation of Jesus Christ.

² Now I went up according to a revelation and set before them the gospel that I proclaim among the Gentiles; but apart individually to those esteemed, lest hardly I might be running or have run in vain.

³ that He made known to me the mystery by revelation, just as I have written before in brief,

²⁰ Now we know that the Son of God is come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.
