¹⁵ But others were saying, “He is Elijah,” and others were saying, “A prophet, like one of the prophets.”

¹⁴ And they said, “Some indeed, John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

¹⁰ And the disciples asked Him, saying, “Why then do the scribes say that it behooves Elijah to come first?” ¹¹ And answering He said, “Elijah indeed comes and will restore all things.

¹¹ And the crowds were saying, “This is the prophet, Jesus, the One from Nazareth of Galilee.”

²⁸ And they answered Him, saying, “John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.”

¹² And He was saying to them, “Elijah indeed, having come first, restores all things; and how has it been written of the Son of Man, that He should suffer many things and be set at naught? ¹³ But I say to you, that also Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they desired, as it has been written of him.”

³⁵ And some of those standing by, having heard, were saying, “Behold, He calls Elijah.” ³⁶ And one having run and having filled a sponge with vinegar, having put it on a reed, gave Him to drink, saying, “Let be; let us see if Elijah comes to take Him down.”

¹⁷ And he will go forth before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

¹⁶ And fear seized all, and they began glorifying God, saying, “A great prophet has risen up among us!” and, “God has visited His people!”

³⁹ And the Pharisee, the one having invited Him, having seen, spoke within himself, saying, “If this were a prophet, He would have known who and what the woman is who touches Him; for she is a sinner.”

⁸ and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that a prophet of the ancients had arisen.

¹⁹ And answering, they said, “John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and others, that a prophet, one of the ancients, has arisen.”

²¹ And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” And he says, “I am not.” “Are you the prophet?” And he answered, “No.”

²⁵ and they asked him and said to him, “Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?”

¹⁴ Therefore the people, having seen what sign He had done, were saying, “This is truly the prophet who is coming into the world.”

⁴⁰ Therefore having heard these words, some of the people were saying, “This is truly the Prophet.”

¹⁷ Therefore they say again to the blind man, “What do you say concerning Him, for He opened your eyes?” And he said, “He is a prophet.”

²² For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up to you a prophet like me out from your brothers. You will listen to Him in all things, as many as He might say to you. ²³ And it will be that every soul who might not heed that prophet will be utterly destroyed out from the people.’
