⁶ And blessed is he who shall not fall away in Me.”

³ “Blessed are the poor in the spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens. ⁴ Blessed are those mourning, for they will be comforted. ⁵ Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. ⁶ Blessed are those hungering and thirsting for righteousness, for they will be filled. ⁷ Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. ⁸ Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. ⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. ¹⁰ Blessed are those having been persecuted on account of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens. ¹¹ Blessed are you when they shall insult you and shall persecute you, and lying shall say all kinds of evil against you on account of Me. ¹² Rejoice and exult, because great is your reward in the heavens; for thus they persecuted the prophets before you.

⁵⁵ Is this not the son of the carpenter? Is not His mother called Mary, and His brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? ⁵⁶ And are not all His sisters with us? Then from where came to this One all these things?” ⁵⁷ And they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in the hometown and in his own household.”

¹² Then the disciples having approached, said to Him, “Do You know that the Pharisees, having heard this saying, were offended?” ¹³ And answering He said, “Every plant that My Heavenly Father has not planted will be rooted up. ¹⁴ Leave them! They are blind guides of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.”

⁷ Woe to the world because of the causes of sin. For the stumbling blocks are necessary to come, but woe to the man by whom the offense comes!

¹⁰ And then many will fall away, and they will betray one another, and will hate one another;

³¹ Then Jesus says to them, “You all will fall away because of Me during this night. For it has been written: ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’

³⁴ And Simeon blessed them and said to His mother Mary: “Behold, this Child is appointed for the falling and rising up of many in Israel, and for a sign spoken against—

²³ And He said to them, “Surely you will say to Me this proverb, ‘Physician heal yourself! Whatsoever we have heard has been done in Capernaum, do here in Your hometown also.’” ²⁴ And He said, “Truly I say to you that no prophet is acceptable in his hometown. ²⁵ And in truth I say to you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up for three years and six months, when there was a great famine upon all the land; ²⁶ and Elijah was sent to none of them, except to Zarephath of Sidon, to a woman, a widow. ²⁷ And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed, except Naaman the Syrian.” ²⁸ And all in the synagogue were filled with anger, hearing these things, ²⁹ and having risen up, they cast Him out of the city, and led Him unto the brow of the hill upon which their town had been built, in order to throw Him over.

²⁷ And it came to pass, in His saying these things, a certain woman from the crowd, having lifted up her voice, said to Him, “Blessed is the womb having borne You, and the breasts at which You nursed.” ²⁸ And He said, “No rather, blessed are those hearing the word of God and keeping it.”

⁶⁰ Therefore many of His disciples having heard, said, “This word is difficult; who is able to hear it?” ⁶¹ But Jesus, knowing in Himself that His disciples are grumbling about this, said to them, “Does this offend you?

⁶⁶ From that time, many of His disciples departed to the back and no longer walked with Him.

⁴¹ Others were saying, “This is the Christ.” But others were saying, “Surely the Christ does not come out of Galilee? ⁴² Has not the Scripture said that Christ comes out of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?”

³² Why? Because it was not by faith, but as by works. They stumbled over the stone of stumbling, ³³ as it has been written: “Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense; and the one believing on Him will never be put to shame.”

²² Forasmuch as both Jews ask for signs, and Greeks seek wisdom, ²³ we, however, preach Christ having been crucified, a stumbling block indeed to the Jewish and foolishness to Gentiles,

¹⁴ But the natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him, and he is not able to understand them, because spiritually they are discerned.

¹¹ Now, brothers, if I still proclaim circumcision, why still am I persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished.

⁸ and, “A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense.” They stumble at being disobedient to the word, to which also they were appointed.
