⁴⁶ For if you love those loving you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?

¹ And beware not to do your righteousness before men in order to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward in the presence of your Father in the heavens.

¹⁰ And it came to pass, of Him reclining in the house, that behold, many tax collectors and sinners having come, were reclining with Jesus and His disciples. ¹¹ And having seen it, the Pharisees said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with the tax collectors and sinners?”

¹⁹ The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold a man, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and of sinners!’ But wisdom is justified by her deeds.”

¹⁷ And if he fails to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he fails to listen to even to the church, let him be to you as the pagan and the tax collector.

³¹ Which of the two did the will of the father?” They say, “The first.” Jesus says to them, “Truly I say to you that the tax collectors and the prostitutes go before you into the kingdom of God. ³² For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him; and you having seen, did not even repent afterward to believe him.

³² And if you love those loving you, what credit is it to you? For even sinners love those loving them. ³³ And indeed, if you do good to those doing good to you, what credit is it to you? For even sinners do the same. ³⁴ And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive back, what credit is it to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, that they might receive the same amount. ³⁵ But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He is kind to the ungrateful and evil.

¹ Now all the tax collectors and the sinners were drawing near to Him to hear Him.

¹³ But the tax collector, standing afar off, was not even willing to lift up the eyes to heaven, but was striking his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, the sinner!’

² And behold, a man by name called Zacchaeus, and he was a chief tax collector, and he was rich.

⁷ And having seen it, all were grumbling, saying, “He has entered to stay with a sinful man.”

²⁰ For what kind of credit is it, if sinning and being struck, you shall endure? But if you shall endure doing good and suffering, this is commendable before God. ²¹ For to this hereunto you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow after His steps: ²² “Who committed no sin, neither was deceit found in His mouth.” ²³ Who being reviled did not retaliate; suffering did not threaten, but He gave Himself over to Him judging justly.
