¹ The word that has been unto Jeremiah from Yahweh, in the king Zedekiah's sending unto him Pashhur son of Malchiah, and Zephaniah son of Maaseiah the priest, saying, ² `Inquire, we pray you, for us at Yahweh, for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon has fought against us; perhaps Yahweh does deal with us according to all His wonders, and does cause him to go up from off us.'" <sup>3</sup> And Jeremiah said unto them, `Thus do you say unto Zedekiah, ⁴ Thus said Yahweh, Elohim of Israel:Lo, I am turning round the weapons of battle That [are] in your hand, With which you do fight the king of Babylon, And the Chaldeans, who are laying siege against you, At the outside of the wall, And I have gathered them into the midst of this city, ⁵ And I--I have fought against you, With a stretched-out hand, and with a strong arm, And in anger, and in fury, and in great wrath, ⁶ And I have smitten the inhabitants of this city, Both man and beast, By a great pestilence do they die." ⁷ And after this--an affirmation of Yahweh, I give Zedekiah king of Judah, And his servants, and the people, And those left in this city, From the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, Into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, And into the hand of their enemies, And into the hand of those seeking their life, And he has smitten them by the mouth of the sword, He has no pity on them, Nor does he spare, nor has he mercy." ⁸ And unto this people you do say, Thus said Yahweh:Lo, I am setting before you the way of life, And the way of death!" ⁹ Whoso is abiding in this city--dies, By sword, and by famine, and by pestilence, And whoso is going forth, And has fallen unto the Chaldeans, Who are laying siege against you--lives, And his life has been to him for a spoil." ¹⁰ For I have set My face against this city for evil, And not for good--an affirmation of Yahweh. Into the hand of the king of Babylon it is given, And he has burned it with fire." ¹¹ And as to the house of the king of Judah, Hear you a word of Yahweh;" ¹² O house of David, thus said Yahweh:Decide you judgment at morning, And deliver the plundered from the hand of the oppressor, Lest My fury go forth as fire, And has burned, and none is quenching, Because of the evil of your doings." ¹³ Lo, I [am] against you--an affirmation of Yahweh, O inhabitant of the valley, rock of the plain, Who are saying, Who comes down against us? And who comes into our habitations? ¹⁴ And I have laid a charge against you, According to the fruit of your doings, An affirmation of Yahweh, And I have kindled a fire in its forest, And it has consumed--all its suburbs!"

¹⁷ And the king of Babylon causes Mattaniah his father's brother to reign in his stead, and turns his name to Zedekiah. ¹⁸ A son of twenty and one years [is] Zedekiah in his reigning, and eleven years he has reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother [is] Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah,

¹⁸ And the chief of the executioners takes Seraiah the head priest, and Zephaniah the second priest, and the three keepers of the threshold, ¹⁹ and out of the city he has taken a certain eunuch who is appointed over the men of war, and five men of those seeing the king's face who have been found in the city, and the head scribe of the host, who musters the people of the land, and sixty men of the people of the land who are found in the city, ²⁰ and Nebuzaradan chief of the executioners takes them, and causes them to go unto the king of Babylon, to Libnah, ²¹ and the king of Babylon smites them, and puts them to death in Riblah, in the land of Hamath, and he removes Judah from off its land.

¹⁵ And sons of Josiah:the first-born Johanan, the second Jehoiakim, the third Zedekiah, the fourth Shallum.

¹² and Adaiah son of Jeroham, son of Pashhur, son of Malchijah, and Maasai son of Adiel, son of Jahzerah, son of Meshullam, son of Meshillemith, son of Immer.

¹⁰ and at the turn of the year has king Nebuchadnezzar sent and brings him in to Babylon, with the desirable vessels of the house of Yahweh, and causes Zedekiah his brother to reign over Judah and Jerusalem. ¹¹ A son of twenty and one years [is] Zedekiah in his reigning, and eleven years he has reigned in Jerusalem;" ¹² and he does the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh his Elohim, he has not been humbled before Jeremiah the prophet [speaking] from the mouth of Yahweh;" ¹³ and also, against king Nebuchadnezzar he has rebelled, who had caused him to swear by Elohim, and he hardens his neck, and strengthens his heart, against turning back unto Yahweh, Elohim of Israel.

¹² and their brethren doing the work of the house [are] eight hundred twenty and two; and Adaiah son of Jeroham, son of Pelaliah, son of Amzi, son of Zechariah, son of Pashhur, son of Malchiah,

²⁵ Thus said Yahweh of Hosts, Elohim of Israel, saying, Because that you have sent in your name letters unto all the people who [are] in Jerusalem, and unto Zephaniah son of Maaseiah the priest, and unto all the priests, saying,

¹ The word that has been unto Jeremiah from Yahweh, in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah--it [is] the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar, ² And then the forces of the king of Babylon are laying siege against Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet has been shut up in the court of the prison that [is] in the house of the king of Judah, ³ Where Zedekiah king of Judah has shut him up, saying, `Wherefore are you prophesying, saying, Thus said Yahweh, Lo, I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he has captured it;"

¹ And reign does king Zedekiah son of Josiah instead of Coniah son of Jehoiakim whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had caused to reign in the land of Judah,

³ And Zedekiah the king sends Jehucal son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah son of Maaseiah the priest, unto Jeremiah the prophet, saying, `Pray, we beseech you, for us unto Yahweh our Elohim.'"

¹ And Shephatiah son of Mattan, and Gedaliah son of Pashhur, and Jucal son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur son of Malchiah, hear the words that Jeremiah is speaking unto all the people, saying,

¹ A son of twenty and one years [is] Zedekiah in his reigning, and eleven years he has reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother [is] Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah." ² and he does the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh, according to all that Jehoiakim has done, ³ for, because of the anger of Yahweh, it has been in Jerusalem and Judah till He has cast them from before His face, and Zedekiah does rebel against the king of Babylon."

²⁴ And the chief of the executioners takes Seraiah the head priest, and Zephaniah the second priest, and the three keepers of the threshold,

¹ Yahweh spoke to Moses saying: ² Speak to the sons of Israel that they may return and encamp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, before Baal-zephon. Over against it you shall encamp by the sea. ³ So Pharaoh will say of the sons of Israel: They are perplexed in the land; the wilderness has closed in on them. ⁴ Thus I will make the heart of Pharaoh steadfast, so he will pursue after them. Then I will be glorified in Pharaoh and in all his army; and the Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh. Hence they did so. ⁵ When it was told to the king of Egypt that the people had run away, the heart of Pharaoh and his servants was turned as to the people, and they said: What is this we have done that we dismissed the sons of Israel from our service? ⁶ So he hitched up his chariots and took his people with him. ⁷ And he took six hundred chosen chariots and all the riders of Egypt and third fighters in all of them. ⁸ Thus Yahweh made the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt steadfast; and he pursued after the sons of Israel. The sons of Israel were going forth with a high hand, ⁹ yet the Egyptians were pursuing after them, and they overtook them encamping by the sea--all the horse-chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen and his army-- at Pi-hahiroth before Baal-zephon. ¹⁰ So Pharaoh, he drew near. Then the sons of Israel lifted their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were journeying after them. Now they became exceedingly fearful, and the sons of Israel cried to Yahweh. ¹¹ They said to Moses: Is it for lack of tombs in Egypt that you have taken us to die in the wilderness? What is this you have done to us bringing us forth from Egypt? ¹² Is not this the word which we spoke to you in Egypt, saying: Leave off from us and let us serve the Egyptians, for it better for us to serve the Egyptians than for us to die in the wilderness. ¹³ Then Moses said to the people: Do not fear! Station yourselves and see the salvation of Yahweh which He shall work for you today, for you see the Egyptians today, you shall not anymore see them again unto the eon. ¹⁴ Yahweh,He shall fight for you; as for you, you shall be silent. ¹⁵ Yahweh said to Moses: Why are you crying to Me? Speak to the sons of Israel that they should journey.

¹ And it comes to pass, when Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem hears that Joshua has captured Ai, and does devote it (as he had done to Jericho and to her king so he has done to Ai and to her king), and that the inhabitants of Gibeon have made peace with Israel, and are in their midst, -. ² that they are greatly afraid, because Gibeon [is] a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it [is] greater than Ai, and all its men--heroes. ³ And Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem sends unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying, ⁴ `Come up unto me, and help me, and we smite Gibeon, for it has made peace with Joshua, and with the sons of Israel.. <sup>5</sup> And five kings of the Amorite (the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon) are gathered together, and go up, they and all their camps, and encamp against Gibeon, and fight against it. <sup>6</sup> And the men of Gibeon send unto Joshua, unto the camp at Gilgal, saying, `Let not your hand cease from your servants; come up unto us [with] haste, and give safety to us, and help us; for all the kings of the Amorite, dwelling in the hill-country, have been assembled against us.. ⁷ And Joshua goes up from Gilgal, he, and all the people of war with him, even all the mighty men of valor. ⁸ And Yahweh said unto Joshua, `Be not afraid of them, for into your hand I have given them, there does not stand a man of them in your presence.. ⁹ And Joshua comes in unto them suddenly (all the night he has gone up from Gilgal), ¹⁰ and Yahweh does crush them before Israel, and it smites them--a great smiting--at Gibeon, and pursues them the way of the ascent of Beth-Horon, and smites them unto Azekah, and unto Makkedah. ¹¹ And it comes to pass, in their fleeing from the face of Israel--they [are] in the descent of Beth-Horon--and Yahweh has cast upon them great stones out of the heavens, unto Azekah, and they die; more are they who have died by the hailstones than they whom the sons of Israel have slain by the sword.

¹ And the sons of Israel add to do the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh when Ehud is dead, ² and Yahweh sells them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, who has reigned in Hazor, and the head of his host [is] Sisera, and he is dwelling in Harosheth of the Goyim;" ³ and the sons of Israel cry unto Yahweh, for he has nine hundred chariots of iron, and he has oppressed the sons of Israel mightily twenty years. ⁴ And Deborah, a woman inspired, wife of Lapidoth, she is judging Israel at that time, ⁵ and she is dwelling under the palm-tree of Deborah, between Ramah and Beth-El, in the hill-country of Ephraim, and the sons of Israel go up unto her for judgment.

²⁷ And the sons of Israel ask of Yahweh, --and there [is] the ark of the covenant of Elohim in those days,

¹⁰ and Samuel is causing the burnt-offering to go up--and the Philistines have drawn nigh to battle against Israel--and Yahweh does thunder with a great noise, on that day, upon the Philistines, and troubles them, and they are smitten before Israel. ¹¹ And the men of Israel go out from Mizpeh, and pursue the Philistines, and smite them unto the place of Beth-Car. ¹² And Samuel takes a stone, and sets [it] between Mizpeh and Shen, and calls its name Eben-Ezer, saying, `Hitherto has Yahweh helped us..

²² And they ask again at Yahweh, `Has the man yet come hither?' and Yahweh said, `Lo, he has been hidden near the vessels..

⁶ And Jonathan said unto the young man bearing his weapons, `Come, and we pass over unto the station of these uncircumcised; it may be Yahweh does work for us, for there is no restraint to Yahweh to save by many or by few.. <sup>7</sup> And the bearer of his weapons said to him, `Do all that [is] in your heart; turn for you; lo, I [am] with you, as your own heart.. ⁸ And Jonathan said, `Lo, we are passing over unto the men, and are revealed unto them;" <sup>9</sup> if thus they say unto us, `Stand still till we have come unto you,' then we have stood in our place, and do not go up unto them;" ¹⁰ and if thus they say, `Come up against us,' then we have gone up, for Yahweh has given them into our hand, and this to us [is] the sign. <sup>11</sup> And revealed are both of them unto the station of the Philistines, and the Philistines say, `Lo, Hebrews are coming out of the holes where they have hid themselves.. ¹² And the men of the station answer Jonathan, and the bearer of his weapons, and say, `Come up unto us, and we cause you to know something.' And Jonathan said unto the bearer of his weapons, `Come up after me, for Yahweh has given them into the hand of Israel.. ¹³ And Jonathan goes up on his hands, and on his feet, and the bearer of his weapons after him; and they fall before Jonathan, and the bearer of his weapons is putting to death after him. ¹⁴ And the first smiting which Jonathan and the bearer of his weapons have smitten is of about twenty men, in about half a furrow of a yoke of a field,

⁴⁵ And David said unto the Philistine, `You are coming unto me with sword, and with spear, and with buckler, and I am coming unto you in the name of Yahweh of Hosts, Elohim of the ranks of Israel, which you have reproached. ⁴⁶ This day does Yahweh shut you up into my hand--and I have smitten you, and turned aside your head from off you, and given the carcase of the camp of the Philistines this day to the fowl of the heavens, and to the beast of the earth, and all the earth do know that Elohim is for Israel. ⁴⁷ and all this assembly do know that not by sword and by spear does Yahweh save, that the battle [is] Yahweh's, and He has given you into our hand.. ⁴⁸ And it has come to pass, that the Philistine has risen, and goes, and draws near to meet David, and David hastes and runs to the rank to meet the Philistine, ⁴⁹ and David puts forth his hand unto the vessel, and takes thence a stone, and slings, and smites the Philistine on his forehead, and the stone sinks into his forehead, and he falls on his face to the earth. ⁵⁰ And David is stronger than the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smites the Philistine, and puts him to death, and there is no sword in the hand of David,

⁶ and Saul asks at Yahweh, and Yahweh has not answered him, either by dreams, or by Urim, or by prophets.

¹⁵ And Samuel said unto Saul, `Why have you troubled me, to bring me up?' And Saul said, `I have great distress, and the Philistines are fighting against me, Elohim has turned aside from me, and has not answered me any more, either by the hand of the prophets, or by dreams; and I call for you to let me know what I do..

² and Jeroboam said to his wife, `Rise, I pray you, and change yourself, and they know not that you [are] wife of Jeroboam, and you have gone to Shiloh; lo, there [is] Ahijah the prophet; he spoke unto me of [being] king over this people;" ³ and you have taken in your hand ten loaves, and crumbs, and a bottle of honey, and have gone in unto him; he does declare to you what becomes of the youth..

³ and the king of Israel said unto his servants, `Have you not known that ours [is] Ramoth-Gilead? and we are keeping silent from taking it out of the hand of the king of Aram!. <sup>4</sup> And he said unto Jehoshaphat, `Do you go with me to battle [to] Ramoth-Gilead?' and Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, `As I am, so you; as my people, so your people; as my horses, so your horses.. <sup>5</sup> And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, `Seek, I pray you, to-day, the word of Yahweh;. ⁶ and the king of Israel gathers the prophets, about four hundred men, and said unto them, `Do I go against Ramoth-Gilead to battle, or do I forbear?' and they say, `Go up, and the Lord does give [it] into the hand of the king.. ⁷ And Jehoshaphat said, `Is there not here a prophet of Yahweh besides, and we seek by him?. <sup>8</sup> And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, `Yet--one man to seek Yahweh by him, and I have hated him, for he does not prophesy concerning me good, but evil--Micaiah son of Imlah;' and Jehoshaphat said, `Let not the king say so..

³ And a messenger of Yahweh has spoken unto Elijah the Tishbite, `Rise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and speak unto them, Is it because there is not an Elohim in Israel--you are going to inquire of Baal Zebub elohim of Ekron?

¹¹ And Jehoshaphat said, `Is there not here a prophet of Yahweh, and we seek Yahweh by him?' And one of the servants of the king of Israel answers and said, `Here [is] Elisha son of Shaphat, who poured water on the hands of Elijah.. ¹² And Jehoshaphat said, `The word of Yahweh is with him;' and go down unto him do the king of Israel, and Jehoshaphat, and the king of Edom. <sup>13</sup> And Elisha said unto the king of Israel, `What--to me and to you? go unto the prophets of your father, and unto the prophets of your mother;' and the king of Israel said to him, `Nay, for Yahweh has called for these three kings to give them into the hand of Moab.. <sup>14</sup> And Elisha said, `Yahweh of Hosts lives, before whom I have stood; for unless the face of Jehoshaphat king of Judah I am lifting up, I do not look unto you, nor see you;"

¹³ `Go, seek Yahweh for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found, for great [is] the fury of Yahweh that is kindled against us, because that our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according to all that is written for us.. ¹⁴ And Hilkiah the priest goes, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, unto Huldah the prophetess, wife of Shallum, son of Tikvah, son of Harhas, keeper of the garments, and she is dwelling in Jerusalem in the second, and they speak unto her.

¹ And it comes to pass, in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth of the month, come has Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, he and all his force, against Jerusalem, and encamps against it, and builds against it a fortification round about. ² And the city enters into siege till the eleventh year of king Zedekiah,

⁹ And come out unto them does Zerah the Cushite with a force of a thousand thousand, and chariots three hundred, and he comes in unto Mareshah, ¹⁰ and Asa goes out before him, and they set battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah. ¹¹ And Asa calls unto Yahweh his Elohim, and said, `Yahweh! it is nothing with You to help, between the mighty and those who have no power; help us, O Yahweh, our Elohim, for on You we have leant, and in Your name we have come against this multitude; O Yahweh, our Elohim you [are]; let him not prevail with You--mortal man!" ¹² And Yahweh smites the Cushim before Asa, and before Judah, and the Cushim flee, ¹³ and Asa and the people who [are] with him pursue them even to Gerar, and there fall of the Cushim, for they have no preserving, because they have been broken before Yahweh, and before His camp; and they bear away very much spoil,

¹ And it comes to pass after this, the sons of Moab have come in, and the sons of Ammon, and with them of the peoples, against Jehoshaphat to battle. ² And they come in and declare to Jehoshaphat, saying, `Come against you has a great multitude from beyond the sea, from Aram, and lo, they [are] in Hazezon-Tamar--it [is] En-Gedi.. <sup>3</sup> And Jehoshaphat fears, and sets his face to seek to Yahweh, and proclaims a fast over all Judah;" <sup>4</sup> and Judah is gathered to inquire of Yahweh; also, from all the cities of Judah they have come in to seek Yahweh. <sup>5</sup> And Jehoshaphat stands in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of Yahweh, at the front of the new court, <sup>6</sup> and said, `O Yahweh, Elohim of our fathers, are not You--Elohim in the heavens? yea, You are ruling over all kingdoms of the nations, and in Your hand [is] power and might, and there is none with You to station himself. ⁷ `Are not You our Elohim? You have dispossessed the inhabitants of this land from before Your people Israel, and do give it to the seed of Abraham Your friend to the eon, <sup>8</sup> and they dwell in it, and build to You in it a sanctuary for Your name, saying, <sup>9</sup> If evil does come upon us--sword, judgment, and pestilence, and famine--we stand before this house, and before You, for Your name [is] in this house, and cry unto You out of our distress, and You do hear and save. <sup>10</sup> `And now, lo, sons of Ammon, and Moab, and mount Seir, whom You did not grant to Israel to go in against in their coming out of the land of Egypt, for they turned aside from off them and destroyed them not, ¹¹ and lo, they are recompensing to us--to come in to drive us out of Your possession, that You have caused us to possess. ¹² `O our Elohim, do You not execute judgment upon them? for there is no power in us before this great multitude that has come against us, and we know not what we do, but on You [are] our eyes.. <sup>13</sup> And all Judah are standing before Yahweh, also their infants, their wives, and their sons. <sup>14</sup> And upon Jahaziel, son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah, the Levite, of the sons of Asaph, has the Spirit of Yahweh been, in the midst of the assembly, <sup>15</sup> and he said, `Attend, all Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and O king Jehoshaphat, Thus said Yahweh to you, You fear not, nor are afraid of the face of this great multitude, for not for you [is] the battle, but for Elohim. ¹⁶ To-morrow, go you down against them, lo, they are coming up by the ascent of Ziz, and you have found them in the end of the valley, the front of the wilderness of Jeruel. ¹⁷ Not for you to fight in this; station yourselves, stand, and see the salvation of Yahweh with you, O Judah and Jerusalem--be not afraid nor fear you--to-morrow go out before them, and Yahweh [is] with you.. ¹⁸ And Jehoshaphat bows--face to the earth--and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem have fallen before Yahweh, to bow themselves to Yahweh. ¹⁹ And the Levites, of the sons of the Kohathites, and of the sons of the Korhites, rise to give praise to Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, with a loud voice on high. ²⁰ And they rise early in the morning, and go out to the wilderness of Tekoa, and in their going out Jehoshaphat has stood and said, `Hear me, O Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem, remain stedfast in Yahweh your Elohim, and be stedfast; remain stedfast in His prophets, and prosper.. <sup>21</sup> And he takes counsel with the people, and appoints singers to Yahweh, and those giving praise to the honor of holiness, in the going out before the armed [men], and saying, `Give you thanks to Yahweh, for to the eon [is] His kindness.. ²² And at the time they have begun with singing and praise, Yahweh has put ambushments against the sons of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, who are coming in to Judah, and they are smitten, ²³ and the sons of Ammon stand up, and Moab, against the inhabitants of mount Seir, to devote and to destroy, and at their finishing with the inhabitants of Seir, they helped, a man against his neighbor, to destroy. ²⁴ And Judah has come in unto the watch-tower, to the wilderness, and they look unto the multitude, and lo, they [are] carcases fallen to the earth, and there is none escaped, ²⁵ and Jehoshaphat comes in, and his people, to seize their spoil, and they find among them, in abundance, both goods and carcases, and desirable vessels, and they take spoil to themselves without prohibition, and they are three days seizing the spoil, for it [is] abundant. ²⁶ And on the fourth day they have been assembled at the valley of Blessing, for there they blessed Yahweh:therefore they have called the name of that place, `Valley of Blessing,' unto this day. ²⁷ And they turn back, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat at their head, to go back unto Jerusalem with joy, for Yahweh has made them rejoice over their enemies. ²⁸ And they come in to Jerusalem with psalteries, and with harps, and with trumpets, unto the house of Yahweh. ²⁹ And there is a fear of Elohim on all kingdoms of the lands in their hearing that Yahweh has fought with the enemies of Israel, ³⁰ and the kingdom of Jehoshaphat is quiet, and his Elohim gives rest to him round about.

²¹ and Yahweh sends a messenger, and cuts off every mighty one of valor--both leader and head--in the camp of the king of Asshur, and he turns back with shame of face to his land, and enters the house of his elohim, and those coming out of his bowels have caused him to fall there by the sword.

¹ {For the Sons of Korah, Contemplating{ O Elohim, with our ears we have heard; Our fathers, they recounted it to us:The deed You effected in their days, in the days aforetime." ² You, by Your hand, You evicted the nations, And You planted them there. You brought evil to the national groups, And You sent them in." ³ For neither by their sword did they tenant the land, Nor did their arm bring salvation for them. But it was Your right hand and Your arm of power and the light of Your countenance, For You held them dear." ⁴ You are He, my King and my Elohim, Who is determining the grand salvation of Jacob."

⁸ Go; perceive the deeds of Yahweh, Desolations which He has placed on the earth, ⁹ Who is making wars cease unto the end of the earth. He shall break the bow, and He cuts away the spear; He shall burn the battle carts with fire." ¹⁰ Relax and know that I am Elohim; I shall be exalted among the nations; I shall be exalted in the earth. ¹¹ Yahweh of hosts is with us; Our Impregnable Retreat is the Elohim of Jacob. {Permanent{

⁴ For behold, the kings, they congregated; They crossed over together." ⁵ They themselves saw, so they were amazed; They were filled with panic; they hurried away." ⁶ Quivering had taken hold of them there, Travail like one giving birth, ⁷ Like the east wind, Which broke up the ships of Tarshish." ⁸ Just as we had heard, so we saw, In the city of Yahweh of hosts, In the city of our Elohim. Elohim, He shall establish it for the eon. {Interlude{ "

⁵ Remember His marvelous works that He has done, His miracles and the judgments of His mouth, ⁶ O seed of Israel, His servants, Sons of Jacob, His chosen ones." ⁷ He is Yahweh, our Elohim; His judgments are in all the earth." ⁸ He remembers His covenant for the eon, The word He enjoined on a thousand generations, ⁹ That He contracted with Abraham, And by His oath to Isaac." ¹⁰ He ratified it to Jacob as a statute, To Israel as a covenant eonian." ¹¹ Saying, To you shall I give the land of Canaan, The region of your allotment." ¹² When they became few adult males in number, Only a few, and sojourners in it, ¹³ Then they walked from nation to nation, From one kingdom to another people." ¹⁴ He would not permit any man to exploit them, And on their behalf He reproved kings:" ¹⁵ Saying, You must not touch My anointed ones, And to My prophets you must not do evil!" ¹⁶ He called forth a famine on the earth; He broke off the entire stock of bread. ¹⁷ He sent a man before them, Joseph, who was sold as a slave." ¹⁸ They humbled his feet in fetters; His soul was inserted in iron ¹⁹ Until the era when His word came to pass, When the saying of Yahweh had refined him." ²⁰ The king sent and let him loose; The ruler of the peoples opened his way. ²¹ He constituted him lord over his house And ruler among all his acquisitions, ²² To discipline his chiefs at his soul's desire, So that he should make his elders wise." ²³ Then Israel came down to Egypt, And Jacob sojourned in the country of Ham." ²⁴ Then He made His people exceedingly fruitful And made them more plentiful than their foes. ²⁵ He turned their heart to hate His people, To plot against His servants." ²⁶ He sent Moses, His servant, And Aaron whom He had chosen." ²⁷ He placed the words of His signs before them, And His miracles before the country of Ham." ²⁸ He sent darkness, and it became very dark, And they could not defy His words." ²⁹ He turned their waters to blood, And He put their fish to death." ³⁰ Their country swarmed with frogs, Into the chambers of their kings." ³¹ He spoke, and there came a mixture of flies, Lice in all their territory." ³² He turned their downpours to hail, With fiery bolts blazing in their country." ³³ He smote their vines and their fig trees, And He broke down the trees of their territory." ³⁴ He spoke, and the locust came, And the young-locust and they were without number." ³⁵ It devoured all the herbage in their country And devoured the fruit of their ground. ³⁶ Then He smote all the firstborn in their country, The beginning of all their virility." ³⁷ Thus He brought His people forth with silver and gold, And there was no one stumbling among their tribes." ³⁸ Egypt rejoiced at their going forth, For alarm over them had fallen upon them." ³⁹ He spread a cloud as a blanket, And a fire to light up the night." ⁴⁰ They asked, and He brought forth quail, And He satisfied them with bread from the heavens." ⁴¹ He opened a rock, and waters gushed out; They flowed into the arid places as a stream." ⁴² For He was mindful of His holy word With Abraham, His servant, ⁴³ And He brought His people forth with elation, His chosen ones with jubilant song." ⁴⁴ He gave the countries of the nations to them, And they took over the toil of the national groups, ⁴⁵ In order that they should keep His statutes And should preserve His laws. Praise Yah!

¹ Give acclamation to Yahweh, for He is good, For His benignity is eonian;" ² Give acclamation to the Elohim of elohim, For His benignity is eonian;" ³ Give acclamation to the Lord of lords, For His benignity is eonian;" ⁴ To the One alone working great marvels, For His benignity is eonian;" ⁵ To the One making the heavens with understanding, For His benignity is eonian;" ⁶ To the One situating the earth above the waters, For His benignity is eonian;" ⁷ To the One making the great lights, For His benignity is eonian;" ⁸ The sun for ruling over the day, For His benignity is eonian;" ⁹ The moon and stars for ruling over the night, For His benignity is eonian;" ¹⁰ To the One smiting Egypt in their firstborn, For His benignity is eonian;" ¹¹ And Who brought forth Israel from their midst, For His benignity is eonian;" ¹² By a steadfast hand and by an outstretched arm, For His benignity is eonian;" ¹³ To the One severing the Sea of Weeds into severed parts, For His benignity is eonian;" ¹⁴ And Who caused Israel to pass through its midst, For His benignity is eonian;" ¹⁵ And Who shook off Pharaoh and his army into the Sea of Weeds, For His benignity is eonian;" ¹⁶ To the One conducting His people through the wilderness, For His benignity is eonian;" ¹⁷ To the One smiting great kings, For His benignity is eonian;" ¹⁸ And Who killed prestigious kings, For His benignity is eonian;" ¹⁹ Sihon king of the Amorite, For His benignity is eonian;" ²⁰ And Og king of Bashan, For His benignity is eonian;" ²¹ He gave their country as an allotment, For His benignity is eonian;" ²² An allotment to Israel, His servant, For His benignity is eonian;" ²³ Who in our lowliness remembered us, For His benignity is eonian;" ²⁴ And Who tore us off from our foes, For His benignity is eonian;" ²⁵ Who is giving nourishment to all flesh, For His benignity is eonian;" ²⁶ Give acclamation to the El of the heavens, For His benignity is eonian."

¹ Behold! The hand of Yahweh is not too short to save! And His ear is not too heavy to hear! ² But rather your depravities become a separation between you and your Elohim. And your sins conceal His face from you, from hearing you."

¹⁷ `Ah, Lord Yahweh, lo, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power, and by Your stretched-out arm; there is nothing too wonderful for You:"

²⁴ `Lo, the mounts--they have come in to the city to capture it, and the city has been given into the hand of the Chaldeans who are fighting against it, because of the sword, and the famine, and the pestilence; and that which You have spoken has come to pass, and lo, You are seeing;"

⁷ `Thus said Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, Thus do you say unto the king of Judah, who is sending you unto Me, to seek Me:Lo, the force of Pharaoh that is coming out to you for help has turned back to its land, to Egypt,

¹⁴ And the king Zedekiah sends, and takes Jeremiah the prophet unto him, unto the third entrance that [is] in the house of Yahweh, and the king said unto Jeremiah, `I am asking you a thing, do not hide from me anything.'" <sup>15</sup> And Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, `When I declare to you, do you not surely put me to death? and when I counsel you, you do not hearken unto me.'" ¹⁶ And the king Zedekiah swears unto Jeremiah in secret, saying, `Yahweh lives, He who made for us this soul, I do not put you to death, nor give you unto the hand of these men who are seeking your soul.'" <sup>17</sup> And Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, `Thus said Yahweh, Elohim of Hosts, Elohim of Israel:If you do certainly go forth unto the heads of the king of Babylon, then has your soul lived, and this city is not burned with fire, yea, you have lived, you and your house." ¹⁸ And if you do not go forth unto the heads of the king of Babylon, then has this city been given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they have burnt it with fire, and you do not escape from their hand.'" ¹⁹ And the king Zedekiah said unto Jeremiah, `I am fearing the Jews who have fallen unto the Chaldeans, lest they give me into their hand, and they have insulted me.'" <sup>20</sup> And Jeremiah said, `They do not give you up; hearken, I pray you, to the voice of Yahweh, to that which I am speaking unto you, and it is well for you, and your soul does live." ²¹ `And if you are refusing to go forth, this [is] the thing that Yahweh has shown me:" <sup>22</sup> That, lo, all the women who have been left in the house of the king of Judah are brought forth unto the heads of the king of Babylon, and lo, they are saying:Persuaded you, and prevailed against you, Have your allies, Sunk into mire have your feet, They have been turned backward." <sup>23</sup> `And all your wives, and your sons, are brought forth unto the Chaldeans, and you do not escape from their hand, for by the hand of the king of Babylon you are caught, and this city is burnt with fire.'" ²⁴ And Zedekiah said unto Jeremiah, `Let no man know of these words, and you do not die;" ²⁵ and when the heads hear that I have spoken with you, and they have come in unto you, and have said unto you, Declare to us, we pray you, what you did speak unto the king, do not hide [it] from us, and we do not put you to death, and what the king spoke unto you, ²⁶ then you have said unto them, I am causing my supplication to fall before the king, not to cause me to return to the house of Jonathan, to die there.'" ²⁷ And all the heads come in unto Jeremiah, and ask him, and he declares to them according to all these words that the king commanded, and they keep silent from him, for the matter was not heard;"

¹ In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, come has Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and all his force unto Jerusalem, and they lay siege against it;" ² in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, in the ninth of the month, has the city been broken up;"

⁴ And Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, `I have heard:lo, I am praying unto Yahweh your Elohim according to your words, and it has come to pass, the whole word that Yahweh answers you, I declare to you--I do not withhold from you a word.'" <sup>5</sup> And they have said to Jeremiah, `Yahweh is against us for a witness true and faithful, if--according to all the word with which Yahweh your Elohim does send you unto us--we do not so." ⁶ Whether good or evil, to the voice of Yahweh our Elohim, to whom we are sending you, we do hearken; because it is good for us when we hearken to the voice of Yahweh our Elohim.'"

³ for, because of the anger of Yahweh, it has been in Jerusalem and Judah till He has cast them from before His face, and Zedekiah does rebel against the king of Babylon." ⁴ And it comes to pass, in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth of the month, come has Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon--he and all his force--against Jerusalem, and they encamp against it, and build against it a fortification round about;" ⁵ and the city comes into siege till the eleventh year of king Zedekiah. ⁶ In the fourth month, in the ninth of the month, when the famine is severe in the city, and there has been no bread for the people of the land,

³ `Son of man, these men have caused their idols to go up on their heart, and the stumbling-block of their iniquity they have put over-against their faces; am I inquired of at all by them? <sup>4</sup> `Therefore, speak with them, and you have said unto them:Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Every one of the house of Israel who causes his idols to go up unto his heart, and the stumbling-block of his iniquity sets over-against his face, and has gone in unto the prophet--I Yahweh have given an answer to him for this, for the abundance of his idols, ⁵ in order to catch the house of Israel by their heart, in that they have become estranged from off me by their idols--all of them." ⁶ `Therefore say unto the house of Israel:Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Turn you back, yea, turn you back from your idols, and from all your abominations turn back your faces, ⁷ for every one of the house of Israel, and of the sojourners who does sojourn in Israel, who is separated from after Me, and does cause his idols to go up unto his heart, and the stumbling-block of his iniquity sets over-against his face, and has come in unto the prophet to inquire of him concerning Me, I, Yahweh, have answered him for Myself;"

¹ And it comes to pass, in the seventh year, in the fifth [month], in the tenth of the month, come in have certain of the elders of Israel to seek Yahweh, and they sit before me;" ² and there is a word of Yahweh unto me, saying, ³ `Son of man, speak with the elders of Israel, and you have said unto them, Thus said the Lord Yahweh:To seek Me are you coming in? I live--I am not sought by you--an affirmation of the Lord Yahweh."

⁵ And now, pray, I shall make known to you what I will do to My vineyard:I will take away its hedge, and it comes to be consumed. I breach its stone dike, and it comes to be tramped."

⁴ Barring one bows under a prisoner, or under the killed, they shall fall. And in all this His anger does not reverse, and His hand is outstretched still!"

⁴ The sound of a throng in the mountains, like many people! The sound of tumult of kingdoms, of nations being gathered! Yahweh of hosts is Musterer of the battle host"

⁵ And [to] Babylon he leads Zedekiah, and there he is till My inspecting him, --an affirmation of Yahweh--because you fight with the Chaldeans, you do not prosper.'"

⁵ they are coming in to fight with the Chaldeans, and to fill them with the carcases of men, whom I have smitten in Mine anger, and in My fury, and [for] whom I have hidden My face from this city, because of all their evil:"

⁸ and the Chaldeans have turned back, and fought against this city, and captured it, and burnt it with fire." ⁹ `Thus said Yahweh:Lift not up your souls saying, The Chaldeans surely go from off us, for they do not go;" ¹⁰ for though you had smitten all the force of the Chaldeans who are fighting with you, and there were left of them wounded men--each in his tent--they rise, and have burnt this city with fire.'"

² `Thus said Yahweh:He who is remaining in this city dies, by sword, by famine, and by pestilence, and he who is going forth unto the Chaldeans lives, and his soul has been to him for a prey, and he lives." ³ Thus said Yahweh:This city is certainly given into the hand of the force of the king of Babylon, and he has captured it.'"

¹⁷ And Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, `Thus said Yahweh, Elohim of Hosts, Elohim of Israel:If you do certainly go forth unto the heads of the king of Babylon, then has your soul lived, and this city is not burned with fire, yea, you have lived, you and your house." ¹⁸ And if you do not go forth unto the heads of the king of Babylon, then has this city been given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they have burnt it with fire, and you do not escape from their hand.'"

³ and come in do all the heads of the king of Babylon, and they sit at the middle gate, Nergal-Sharezer, Samgar-Nebo, Sarsechim, chief of the eunuchs, Nergal-Sharezer, chief of the Mages, and all the rest of the heads of the king of Babylon."

¹⁸ and the pots, and the shovels, and the snuffers, and the bowls, and the spoons, and all the vessels of brass with which they minister, they have taken away;"

⁵ Yahweh has become like an enemy; He has swallowed up Israel; He has swallowed up all her citadels; He has ruined its fortresses; And He is multiplying, in the daughter of Judah, complaint and complaining."

⁷ Yahweh has cast off His altar; He has disowned His sanctuary; He has surrendered the walls of her citadels into the hand of the enemy. They have raised their voice in the House of Yahweh as on the day of an appointed festival.

³⁷ Therefore, lo, I am assembling all your lovers, To whom you have been sweet, And all whom you have loved, Besides all whom you have hated; And I have assembled them by you round about, And have revealed your nakedness to them, And they have seen all your nakedness." ³⁸ And I have judged you--judgments of adulteresses, And of women shedding blood, And have given you blood, fury, and jealousy." ³⁹ And I have given you into their hand, And they have thrown down your arch, And they have broken down your high places, And they have stript you of your garments, And they have taken your beauteous vessels, And they have left you naked and bare." ⁴⁰ And have caused an assembly to come up against you, And stoned you with stones, And thrust you through with their swords, ⁴¹ And burnt your houses with fire, And done in you judgments before the eyes of many women, And I have caused you to cease from going a-whoring, And also a gift you give no more."

¹² For, if they are bringing up their sons, then will I bereave them of a human, for, moreover, woe to them when My control is away from them!"

² Yet I will gather all nations to Jerusalem to battle, and the city shall be seized, and the houses are rifled, and the women ravished. And half the city shall fare forth into deportation. Yet the rest of My people shall not be cut off from the city."

⁷ Now the king is angered, and, sending his troops, destroys those murderers and sets their city in flames."

⁶ Wherefore say to the sons of Israel: I am Yahweh; hence I will bring you forth from beneath the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rescue you from their service. I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments.

¹⁵ For by now I could have put forth My hand and smitten you and your people with the plague so that you were suppressed from the land.

²³ Guard yourselves lest you forget the covenant of Yahweh your Elohim that He contracted with you, and so you make for yourselves a carving, a physical representation of anything, against which Yahweh your Elohim had instructed you;"

³⁴ Or has an elohim ever tried to come and take for himself a nation from among another nation by trials, by signs and by miracles, by war, by a steadfast hand and by an outstretched arm and by great fear-inspiring deeds, such as all that Yahweh your Elohim did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

²⁵ Therefore the anger of Yahweh of hosts is hot among His people, and He is stretching out His hand over them, and smiting them. And disturbed are the chiefs, and their carcasses are becoming as sweepings within the streets. In all this His anger does not reverse, and His hand is outstretched still."

¹² The Syrians from the east, and the Philistines from behind, and they shall devour Israel with a whole mouth. And in all this his anger does not reverse, and His hand is outstretched still!"

¹⁷ Therefore, their choice men my Lord will not spare, and on their orphans and their widows He will not have compassion, for all of them are polluted and doing evil, and every mouth speaks decadence. In all this His anger does not reverse, and His hand is outstretched still!"

²¹ Manasseh will eat Ephraim and Ephraim Manasseh, and together they will dine on Judah. And in all this His anger does not reverse, and his hand is outstretched still!"

¹⁰ Yet they rebelled and grieved His holy spirit, and He is turning into their enemy, and He fights against them."

¹² And their houses have been turned to others, Fields and wives together, For I stretch out My hand against the inhabitants of the land, An affirmation of Yahweh."

³⁷ Lo, I am gathering them out of all the lands whither I have driven them in Mine anger, and in My fury, and in great wrath, and I have brought them back unto this place, and have caused them to dwell confidently;"

⁴ He has positioned His bow like an enemy, setting His right hand like a foe; And He is killing all that is coveted by the eye in the tent of the daughter of Zion; He has poured out His fury like fire." ⁵ Yahweh has become like an enemy; He has swallowed up Israel; He has swallowed up all her citadels; He has ruined its fortresses; And He is multiplying, in the daughter of Judah, complaint and complaining."

³³ I live--an affirmation of the Lord Yahweh, Do not I, with a strong hand, And with a stretched-out arm, And with fury poured out--rule over you? ³⁴ And I have brought you forth from the peoples, And assembled you from the lands In which you have been scattered, With a strong hand and with a stretched-out arm, And with fury poured out."

⁵ The mountains quake because of Him, and the hills dissolve. The earth is upheaving because of His presence, and the habitance and all dwelling in it." ⁶ Before His menace, who will stand? And who will rise in the heat of His anger? His fury is poured forth as fire, and the rocks are broken down because of Him."

⁷ And saying is Yahweh Elohim, "Wipe will I the humanity, which I have created, off the surface of the ground, from human unto beast, and unto the moving animal, and unto the flyer of the heavens, for I regret that I have made them.

¹¹ And saying am I, "Till when, Yahweh?And saying is He, "Till the cities should tumult from having no dweller, and houses, from having no human. And the ground is remaining a desolation,

¹ Behold, Yahweh making void, the land, and evacuating it! And He denudes its surface, and scatters its dwellers." ² And it comes to be, as people, so priest, as servant, so his lord, as maid, so her mistress, as buyer, so seller, as borrowee, so borrower, as lender, so him to whom is lent." ³ Voided, yea voided shall be the land, and plundered, yea plundered shall be the ground. For the mouth of Yahweh speaks this word." ⁴ Mournful, disintegrated is the earth. Enfeebled, disintegrated is the habitance. Enfeebled are the heights of the people of the land, ⁵ and the land is polluted under its dwellers. For they trespass against the laws; they vary the statute; they annul the covenant eonian. ⁶ Therefore an imprecation devours the land, and dwellers in it are guilty. Therefore the dwellers are drained out of the land, and there remain but a bit of the mortals."

²⁰ Therefore, thus said the Lord Yahweh, Lo, Mine anger and My fury is poured out on this place, On man, and beast, and on tree of the field, And on fruit of the ground, And it has burned, and it is not quenched."

³ And You, O Yahweh, You have known me, You see me, and have tried my heart with You, Draw them away as sheep to slaughter, And separate them for a day of slaughter." ⁴ Till when does the earth mourn, And the herb of the whole field wither? For the wickedness of those dwelling in it, Consumed have been beast and fowl, Because they said, `He does not see our latter end.'"

¹² When they fast, I hearken not unto their cry, And when they cause to ascend burnt-offering and present, I accept them not, For by sword, and by famine, And by pestilence, I am consuming them."

¹² Thus said Yahweh of Hosts:Again there is in this place--that is waste, Without man and beast, And in all its cities--a habitation of shepherds, Causing the flock to lie down."

¹⁷ `Therefore, thus said Yahweh:You have not hearkened unto Me to proclaim freedom, each to his brother, and each to his neighbor; lo, I am proclaiming to you liberty--an affirmation of Yahweh--unto the sword, unto the pestilence, and unto the famine, and I have given you for a trembling to all kingdoms of the earth."

²⁹ and unto Jehoiakim king of Judah you do say:Thus said Yahweh, You have burnt this roll, saying, Wherefore have you written on it, saying, The king of Babylon surely comes in, and has destroyed this land, and caused to cease from it man and beast?

²² And now, know you certainly that by sword, by famine, and by pestilence you die, in the place that you have desired to go in to sojourn there.'"

¹² Your third part--by pestilence they die, And by famine are consumed in your midst, And the third part, by sword they fall round about you, And the third part, to every wind I scatter, And a sword I draw out after them." ¹³ And completed has been Mine anger, And I have caused My fury to rest on them, And I have been comforted, And they have known that I, Yahweh, have spoken in My zeal, In My completing My fury on them."

¹⁵ The sword [is] without, And the pestilence and the famine within, He who is in a field by sword dies, And he who is in a city, Famine and pestilence devour him."

¹⁶ and I have left of them, a few in number, from the sword, from the famine, and from the pestilence, so that they recount all their abominations among the nations whither they have come, and they have known that I [am] Yahweh.'"

¹³ `Son of man, the land--when it sins against Me to commit a trespass, and I have stretched out My hand against it, and broken for it the staff of bread, and sent into it famine, and cut off from it man and beast--"

¹⁷ `Or--a sword I bring in against that land, and I have said:Sword, you do pass over through the land, and I have cut off from it man and beast--"

¹⁹ `Or--pestilence I send unto that land, and I have poured out My fury against it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast--"

²¹ `For thus said the Lord Yahweh:Although My four sore judgments--sword, and famine, and wild beast, and pestilence--I have sent unto Jerusalem, to cut off from it man and beast,

²⁷ Thus do you say unto them:Thus said the Lord Yahweh:I live--do not they who [are] in the wastes by the sword fall? And they who [are] on the face of the field, To the beast I have given for food, And they who are in strongholds and in caves by pestilence die."

²⁹ And they have known that I [am] Yahweh, In My making the land a desolation and an astonishment, For all their abominations that they have done."

³ Therefore the land shall mourn, and every dweller in it shall be enfeebled with the field life, and with the moving animals on the ground, and with the flyers of the heavens; and even the fishes of the sea shall be gathered away."

¹² Wherefore, due to you, Zion shall be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become rubbish heaps, and the mountain of the house fane heights of a wildwood."

³ I will terminate human and beast. I will terminate the flyer of the heavens and the fish of the sea, and the stumbling blocks with the wicked. And I cut humanity off the surface of the ground, (averring is Yahweh)."

²⁴ And they shall be falling by the edge of the sword and shall be led into captivity into all nations. And Jerusalem shall be trodden by the nations, until the eras of the nations may be fulfilled."

⁵⁰ a nation strong of face who neither lifts the face of the old one with partiality nor is gracious to the youth.

⁵ And the force of the Chaldeans pursue after the king, and overtake him in the plains of Jericho, and all his force have been scattered from him;" ⁶ and they seize the king, and bring him up unto the king of Babylon, to Riblah, and they speak with him--judgment. ⁷ And the sons of Zedekiah they have slaughtered before his eyes, and the eyes of Zedekiah he has blinded, and binds him with brazen fetters, and they bring him to Babylon.

¹⁷ And He causes to go up against them the king of the Chaldeans, and he slays their chosen ones by the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and has had no pity on young man and virgin, old man and very aged--the whole He has given into his hand. ¹⁸ And all the vessels of the house of Elohim, the great and the small, and the treasures of the house of Yahweh, and the treasures of the king and of his princes--the whole he has brought in to Babylon. ¹⁹ And they burn the house of Elohim, and break down the wall of Jerusalem, and all its palaces they have burnt with fire, and all its desirable vessels--to destruction. ²⁰ And he removes those left of the sword unto Babylon, and they are to him and to his sons for servants, till the reigning of the kingdom of Persia,

¹⁷ Behold Me rousing against them the Medes, who are not accounting silver, and gold--they are not delighting in it." ¹⁸ And with bows they are dashing the youths to pieces, and on the fruit of the belly they are not having compassion. And over the sons their eye is not commiserating."

¹¹ when its grass is dry. Women shall look forward, coming to enlighten it, for it is not a people of understanding. Therefore no compassion is its Maker showing to it, and its Former will not be gracious to it."

⁶ I was wroth over My people, and I violated My allotment, and was giving them into your hand, yet you show them no compassion. On the old you make your yoke exceedingly heavy."

¹⁴ And have dashed them one against another, And the fathers and the sons together, An affirmation of Yahweh, I do not pity, nor spare, nor have I mercy, So as not to destroy them."

⁸ And like the bad figs, that are not eaten for badness, Surely thus said Yahweh:So do I make Zedekiah king of Judah, And his heads, and the remnant of Jerusalem, Who are left in this land, And who are dwelling in the land of Egypt, ⁹ And I have given them for a trembling, For evil--to all kingdoms of the earth, For a reproach, and for a simile, For a byword, and for a reviling, In all the places whither I drive them." ¹⁰ And I have sent against them the sword, The famine and the pestilence, Till their consumption from off the ground, That I gave to them and to their fathers!"

¹⁹ heads of Judah, and heads of Jerusalem, the officers, and the priests, and all the people of the land those passing through between the pieces of the calf--" ²⁰ yea, I have given them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those seeking their soul, and their carcase has been for food to the fowl of the heavens, and to the beast of the earth." ²¹ `And Zedekiah king of Judah, and his heads, I give into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those seeking their soul, and into the hand of the forces of the king of Babylon, that are going up from off you." ²² Lo, I am commanding--an affirmation of Yahweh--and have brought them back unto this city, and they have fought against it, and captured it, and burned it with fire, and the cities of Judah I do make a desolation--without inhabitant.'"

¹⁷ and the king Zedekiah sends, and takes him, and the king asks him in his house in secret, and said, `Is there a word from Yahweh?' And Jeremiah said, `There is,' and he said, `Into the hand of the king of Babylon you are given.'"

²¹ `And if you are refusing to go forth, this [is] the thing that Yahweh has shown me:" <sup>22</sup> That, lo, all the women who have been left in the house of the king of Judah are brought forth unto the heads of the king of Babylon, and lo, they are saying:Persuaded you, and prevailed against you, Have your allies, Sunk into mire have your feet, They have been turned backward." <sup>23</sup> `And all your wives, and your sons, are brought forth unto the Chaldeans, and you do not escape from their hand, for by the hand of the king of Babylon you are caught, and this city is burnt with fire.'"

⁴ And it comes to pass, when Zedekiah king of Judah, and all the men of war, have seen them, that they flee and go forth by night from the city, the way of the king's garden, through the gate between the two walls, and he goes forth the way of the plain." ⁵ And the forces of the Chaldeans pursue after them, and overtake Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho, and they take him, and bring him up unto Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, to Riblah, in the land of Hamath, and he speaks with him--judgments." ⁶ And the king of Babylon slaughters the sons of Zedekiah, in Riblah, before his eyes, yea, all the freemen of Judah has the king of Babylon slaughtered." ⁷ And the eyes of Zedekiah he has blinded, and he binds him with brazen fetters, to bring him in to Babylon."

⁸ And the forces of the Chaldeans pursue after the king, and overtake Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho, and all his forces have been scattered from him, ⁹ and they capture the king, and bring him up unto the king of Babylon to Riblah, in the land of Hamath, and he speaks with him--judgments." ¹⁰ And the king of Babylon slaughters the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes, and also all the princes of Judah has he slaughtered in Riblah;" ¹¹ and the eyes of Zedekiah he has blinded, and he binds him in brazen fetters, and the king of Babylon brings him to Babylon, and puts him in the house of inspection unto the day of his death."

²⁴ And the chief of the executioners takes Seraiah the head priest, and Zephaniah the second priest, and the three keepers of the threshold, ²⁵ and out of the city he has taken a certain eunuch, who has been inspector over the men of war, and seven men of those seeing the king's face, who have been found in the city, and the head scribe of the host, who musters the people of the land, and sixty men of the people of the land, who are found in the midst of the city;" ²⁶ and Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, takes them, and brings them unto the king of Babylon to Riblah, ²⁷ and the king of Babylon smites them, and puts them to death in Riblah, in the land of Hamath, and he removes Judah from off its own ground."

⁹ And not pity does Mine eye, nor do I spare, According to your ways unto you I give, And your abominations are in your midst, And you have known that I [am] Yahweh the smiter."

¹⁸ And I also deal in fury, Mine eye does not pity, nor do I spare, and they have cried in Mine ears--a loud voice--and I do not hear them.'"

⁵ And to the others he said in mine ears, `Pass on into the city after him, and smite; your eye does not pity, nor do you spare;" ⁶ aged, young man, and virgin, and infant, and women, you do slay--to destruction; and against any man on whom [is] the mark you do not go nigh, and from My sanctuary you begin.'"

¹⁰ And I also, Mine eye does not pity, nor do I spare; their way on their own head I have put.'"

¹² As to the prince who [is] in their midst, on the shoulder he bears in the darkness, and he goes forth, through the wall they dig to bring forth by it, his face he covers, that he may not look on the very surface of the land." ¹³ And I have spread My net for him, and he has been caught in My snare, and I have brought him in to Babylon, the land of the Chaldeans, and it he does not see--and there does he die." ¹⁴ `And all who are round about him to help him, and all his bands, I do scatter to every wind, and a sword I draw out after them." ¹⁵ And they have known that I [am] Yahweh, in My scattering them among nations, and I have spread them through lands;" ¹⁶ and I have left of them, a few in number, from the sword, from the famine, and from the pestilence, so that they recount all their abominations among the nations whither they have come, and they have known that I [am] Yahweh.'"

²⁰ And I have spread out for him My snare, And he has been caught in My net, And I have brought him in to Babylon, And pleaded with him there his trespass, That he has trespassed against Me." ²¹ And all his fugitives, with all his bands, By sword do fall, and those remaining, To every wind they are spread out, And you have known that I, Yahweh, have spoken."

²⁵ And you, wounded, wicked one, Prince of Israel, whose day has come, In the time of the iniquity of the end!" ²⁶ Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Turn aside the mitre, and bear away the crown, This--not this--the low make high, And the high make low."

⁶ For, behold Me raising the Chaldeans, the bitter and hasty nation, going the widths of the earth to tenant tabernacles not his own." ⁷ Dreadful and fearful is he! His judgment and his dignity are faring forth from him. ⁸ His horses are fleeter than leopards and sharper than evening wolves, and his horsemen are diffused; and his horsemen will come from far. They will fly as a vulture that hurries to eat." ⁹ All of them will come for violence. The endeavor of their faces is toward the east; and they shall gather the captives as sand. ¹⁰ And he will scoff at kings, and chancellors will be sport to him; he will sport with every fortress and pile up soil and seize it."

²⁶ See! I am setting before you today blessing and malediction:

¹⁵ See! I put before you today life and good, death and evil.

¹⁹ Today I call the heavens and the earth to testify against you:Life and death I have put before you, the blessing and the malediction. Now choose life that you may live, you and your seed,

¹⁹ If you are willing and hearken, the good of the land shall you eat." ²⁰ Yet if you are refusing and rebel, by the sword shall you be devoured. For the mouth of Yahweh speaks."

⁷ And after this--an affirmation of Yahweh, I give Zedekiah king of Judah, And his servants, and the people, And those left in this city, From the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, Into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, And into the hand of their enemies, And into the hand of those seeking their life, And he has smitten them by the mouth of the sword, He has no pity on them, Nor does he spare, nor has he mercy."

¹³ Why do you die, you and your people, by sword, by famine, and by pestilence, as Yahweh has spoken concerning the nation that does not serve the king of Babylon?

² `Thus said Yahweh:He who is remaining in this city dies, by sword, by famine, and by pestilence, and he who is going forth unto the Chaldeans lives, and his soul has been to him for a prey, and he lives."

¹⁷ And Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, `Thus said Yahweh, Elohim of Hosts, Elohim of Israel:If you do certainly go forth unto the heads of the king of Babylon, then has your soul lived, and this city is not burned with fire, yea, you have lived, you and your house." <sup>18</sup> And if you do not go forth unto the heads of the king of Babylon, then has this city been given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they have burnt it with fire, and you do not escape from their hand.'" <sup>19</sup> And the king Zedekiah said unto Jeremiah, `I am fearing the Jews who have fallen unto the Chaldeans, lest they give me into their hand, and they have insulted me.'" ²⁰ And Jeremiah said, `They do not give you up; hearken, I pray you, to the voice of Yahweh, to that which I am speaking unto you, and it is well for you, and your soul does live."

¹⁸ for I do certainly deliver you, and by sword you fall not, and your life has been to you for a spoil, for you have trusted in Me--an affirmation of Yahweh.'"

⁵ And you--you seek for you great things--do not seek, for lo, I am bringing in evil on all flesh--an affirmation of Yahweh--and I have given to you your life for a spoil, in all places whither you go.'"

¹⁰ As for any man from the house of Israel and from the sojourners sojourning in your midst who should eat any blood, I will set My face against the soul eating blood, and I will cut him off from among his people,

³ I Myself shall set My face against that man and will cut him off from among his people (for he has given of his seed to Moloch) on account of the defilement of My sanctuary and the profanation of My holy name. ⁴ And if the people of the land should obscure, yea obscure their eyes from that man when he gives of his seed to Moloch, so as to avoid putting him to death, ⁵ then I Myself will set My face against that man and against his family and will cut off from among their people him and all those prostituting after him, to prostitute after Moloch.

¹⁷ I will set My face against you, and you will be struck down before your enemies; those hating you will hold sway over you, and you will flee even when there is no one pursuing you.

¹⁹ And they burn the house of Elohim, and break down the wall of Jerusalem, and all its palaces they have burnt with fire, and all its desirable vessels--to destruction.

¹⁶ The face of Yahweh is against those doing evil, To cut off their remembrance from the earth."

²⁷ And if you do not hearken unto me to sanctify the day of rest, And so as not to bear a burden, And to come in at the gates of Jerusalem on the day of rest, Then I have kindled a fire in its gates, And it has consumed the high places of Jerusalem, And it is not quenched!'"

⁶ Then I have given up this house as Shiloh, and this city I give up for a reviling to all nations of the earth.'"

²⁸ `Therefore, thus said Yahweh, Lo, I am giving this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he has captured it;" <sup>29</sup> And come in have the Chaldeans who are fighting against this city, and they have set this city on fire, and have burned it, and the houses on whose roofs they made perfume to Baal, and poured out libations to other elohims, so as to provoke Me to anger." <sup>30</sup> For the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah have been only doing evil in Mine eyes, from their youth; for the sons of Israel are only provoking Me with the work of their hands--an affirmation of Yahweh." <sup>31</sup> `For a cause of Mine anger, and a cause of My fury, has this city been to Me, even from the day that they built it, and unto this day--to turn it aside from before My face,

² `Thus said Yahweh, Elohim of Israel:Go, and you have spoken unto Zedekiah king of Judah, and have said unto him, Thus said Yahweh:Lo, I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he has burned it with fire,

²² Lo, I am commanding--an affirmation of Yahweh--and have brought them back unto this city, and they have fought against it, and captured it, and burned it with fire, and the cities of Judah I do make a desolation--without inhabitant.'"

³ Thus said Yahweh:This city is certainly given into the hand of the force of the king of Babylon, and he has captured it.'"

¹⁸ And if you do not go forth unto the heads of the king of Babylon, then has this city been given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they have burnt it with fire, and you do not escape from their hand.'"

²³ `And all your wives, and your sons, are brought forth unto the Chaldeans, and you do not escape from their hand, for by the hand of the king of Babylon you are caught, and this city is burnt with fire.'"

⁸ And the house of the king, and the house of the people, have the Chaldeans burnt with fire, and the walls of Jerusalem they have broken down."

¹¹ `Therefore, thus said Yahweh of Hosts, Elohim of Israel:Lo, I am setting my face against you for evil, even to cut off all Judah,

²⁷ Lo, I am watching over them for evil, and not for good, and consumed have been all the men of Judah who [are] in the land of Egypt, by sword and by famine, till their consumption."

¹³ and he burns the house of Yahweh, and the house of the king, and all the houses of Jerusalem, even every great house he has burned with fire,

⁷ And I have set My face against them, From the fire they have gone forth, And the fire does consume them, And you have known that I [am] Yahweh, In My setting My face against them."

⁴ And if they are going into captivity before their enemies, thence will I instruct the sword, and it will kill them. And I place my eye on them for evil, and not for good."

⁶ Yea, My words and My statutes, which you have received, which I instruct, by My spirit, My servants the prophets, did they not overtake your forefathers? And they are turning away and are saying:Just as Yahweh of hosts plans to do to us, as fits our ways and our actions, so He does with us."

¹⁸ Say to the king and to the mistress:Make yourselves low--sit still, For come down have your principalities, The crown of your beauty."

²⁰ and you have said unto them:Hear a word of Yahweh, you kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all inhabitants of Jerusalem, who are coming in by these gates,

¹ And He is saying, Oh hear this! you heads of the house of Jacob, and captains of the house of Israel, is it not yours to know judgment?

¹³ It came to be on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people. So the people stood by Moses from the morning until evening.

²⁸ then I will go contrary to you in fury. And I Myself, indeed, will discipline you sevenfold for your sins.

²² For a fire will be kindled by My anger, and it shall glow unto the unseen beneath; it shall devour the earth and its crop, and it shall set aflame the foundations of the mountains.

¹⁵ And David reigns over all Israel, and David is doing judgment and righteousness to all his people,

¹⁷ I would break the fangs of the iniquitous And would fling the prey from his teeth.

¹ {Solomonic{ O Elohim, bestow Your right judgments on the king, And Your righteousness on the royal son." ² May he adjudicate Your people with righteousness, And Your humbled ones with redress." ³ May the mountains bear peace for the people, And the hills blossom with righteousness." ⁴ May he redress the humbled of the people; May he save the sons of the needy And crush the exploiter.

¹² For He shall rescue the needy one imploring, And the humbled one, when there is no helper for him." ¹³ He shall be a refuge for the poor and needy one, And the souls of the needy shall He save." ¹⁴ From fraud and from violence shall He redeem their soul, And their blood shall be precious in His eyes."

² How long shall you judge with iniquity And lift up the faces of the wicked? {Interlude{ ³ Redress the poor and the orphan; To the humbled and destitute grant justice. ⁴ Deliver the poor and the needy; From the hand of the wicked, give rescue."

⁸ In the mornings I shall efface all the wicked of the land, To cut off from the city of Yahweh all contrivers of lawlessness."

¹¹ Rescue those being taken to death, And you should keep back those who are slipping away to the kill." ¹² If you say, Behold, we know nothing about this, Does not He Who regulates hearts detect it, And He Who preserves your soul know it, Who will render to a man according to his deeds?

⁸ Open your mouth for the mute, For the adjudication of all the sons of insecurity;" ⁹ Open your mouth; judge righteously; And adjudicate the humble and needy one.

¹⁶ Woe to you, O country, whose king is a youth, And whose chiefs eat feasts in the morning." ¹⁷ Happy are you, O country, whose king is a son of notables, And whose chiefs eat in season For mastery and not for a drinking bout."

¹⁷ Leave off the evil! Learn to be good! Inquire for judgment! Make happy the wronged! Judge the orphan! Contend for the widow!

³¹ And your safeguard becomes tinder, and your contrivance a spark. And the lawless and sinners consume, the two of them together, and there is no quencher."

² And it is being told the house of David, saying, "Guided is Syria over Ephraim.And swaying is his heart, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wildwood sway from facing the wind."

¹³ And saying is he. "Hear, pray, house of David! A little thing is it for you to tire mortals, that you are tiring even Yahweh, my Elohim?

³ Bring counsel; make mediation. Set, as night, your shadow amidst noons; conceal those expelled. A flitter you must not expose." ⁴ Among you shall sojourn the expelled of Moab. Be a concealment for them from the face of the devastator. For He limits the squeezer; finished is the devastator. They come to an end of tramping from the land. ⁵ And prepared by kindness is a throne, and seated on it in truth, in the tent of David, is a judge. And he inquires for judgment, and swift is justice."

¹ Woe to those going down to Egypt for help! On horses are they leaning, and trusting in chariots, for they are many, and on horsemen, for they are very staunch. And they do not heed the Holy One of Israel, and of Yahweh Elohim they do not inquire." ² Yet, moreover, He is wise, and will bring evil, and His words He does not take away, and He rises against the house of the evil doers, and against the help of the contrivers of lawlessness."

⁴ Be circumcised to Yahweh, And turn aside the foreskins of your heart, O man of Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, Lest My fury go out as fire, and has burned, And there is none quenching, Because of the evil of your doings."

¹⁴ Therefore, thus said Yahweh, Elohim of Hosts, Because of your speaking this word, Lo, I am making My words in your mouth become fire, And this people wood, and it has devoured them."

²⁸ They have been fat, they have shone, Yea, they have overpassed the acts of the evil, Judgment they have not judged, The judgment of the fatherless--and they prosper, And the judgment of the needy they have not judged."

⁴ And you have let go--even through yourself, Of your inheritance that I gave to you, And I have caused you to serve your enemies, In a land that you have not known, For a fire you have kindled in Mine anger, Unto the eon it does burn."

⁵ And I--I have fought against you, With a stretched-out hand, and with a strong arm, And in anger, and in fury, and in great wrath,

² Hear a word of Yahweh, O king of Judah, who are sitting on the throne of David, you, and your servants, and your people, who are coming in at these gates, ³ Thus said Yahweh:Do you judgment and righteousness, And deliver the plundered from the hand of the oppressor, And sojourner, orphan, and widow, you do not oppress nor wrong, And innocent blood you do not shed in this place."

¹⁵ Do you reign, because you are fretting yourself in cedar? Your father--did he not eat and drink? Yea, he did judgment and righteousness, Then [it is] well with him." ¹⁶ He decided the cause of the poor and needy, Then [it is] well--is it not to know Me? An affirmation of Yahweh." ¹⁷ But your eyes and your heart are not, Except on your dishonest gain, And on shedding of innocent blood, And on oppression, and on doing of violence."

⁵ Lo, days are coming--an affirmation of Yahweh, And I have raised to David a righteous shoot, And a king has reigned and acted wisely, And done judgment and righteousness in the earth."

¹⁹ Lo, a whirlwind of Yahweh--Fury has gone out, even a piercing whirlwind, On the head of the wicked it stays."

⁷ if so be their supplication does fall before Yahweh, and they turn back each from his evil way, for great [is] the anger and the fury that Yahweh has spoken concerning this people.'"

³ He hacked down all the horn of Israel in the heat of anger; He has turned back His right hand in the presence of the enemy; And He is consuming in Jacob like a blazing fire that devours all around. ⁴ He has positioned His bow like an enemy, setting His right hand like a foe; And He is killing all that is coveted by the eye in the tent of the daughter of Zion; He has poured out His fury like fire."

¹¹ Yahweh has made His fury whole; He has poured out His hot anger; And He is ravaging with fire in Zion which is devouring its foundations.

⁴⁷ and you have said to the forest of the south:Hear a word of Yahweh:Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Lo, I am kindling in you a fire, And it has devoured in you every moist tree, and every dry tree, Not quenched is the glowing flames, And burnt by it have been all faces from south to north." ⁴⁸ And seen have all flesh, that I, Yahweh, have kindled it--it is not quenched.'"

¹⁸ The house of Israel has been to Me for dross, All of them [are] brass, and tin, and iron, and lead, In the midst of a furnace--dross has silver been, ¹⁹ Therefore, thus said the Lord Yahweh:Because of your all becoming dross, Therefore, lo, I am gathering you unto the midst of Jerusalem, ²⁰ A gathering of silver, and brass, and iron, and lead, and tin, Unto the midst of a furnace--to blow on it fire, to melt it, So do I gather in Mine anger and in My fury, And I have let rest, and have melted you." ²¹ And I have heaped you up, And blown on you in the fire of My wrath, And you have been melted in its midst." ²² As the melting of silver in the midst of a furnace, So are you melted in its midst, And you have known that I, Yahweh, I have poured out My fury upon you.'"

³¹ And I pour out on them mine indignation, By fire of My wrath I have consumed them, Their way on their own head I have put, An affirmation of the Lord Yahweh!'"

⁸ To cause fury to come up to take vengeance, I have put her blood on a clear place of a rock--not to be covered." ⁹ Therefore, thus said the Lord Yahweh:Woe [to] the city of blood, yea, I--I make great the pile." ¹⁰ Make abundant the wood, Kindle the fire, consume the flesh, And make the compound, And let the bones be burnt." ¹¹ And cause it to stand on its coals empty, So that its brass is hot and burning, Melted has been in its midst its uncleanness, Consumed is its scum." ¹² [With] sorrows she has wearied herself, And the abundance of her scum goes not out of her, In the fire [is] her scum." ¹³ In your uncleanness [is] wickedness, Because I have cleansed you, And you have not been cleansed, From your uncleanness you are not cleansed again, Till I have caused My fury to rest on you." ¹⁴ I, Yahweh, has spoken, It has come, and I have done [it], I do not free, nor do I spare, nor do I repent, According to your ways, and according to your acts, they have judged you, An affirmation of the Lord Yahweh.'"

⁶ Before His menace, who will stand? And who will rise in the heat of His anger? His fury is poured forth as fire, and the rocks are broken down because of Him."

¹⁸ Moreover, their silver and their gold, will not be able to rescue them in the day of the rage of Yahweh; and by the fire of His jealousy the entire land shall be devoured; for a finish, yea, a hustled one, shall He make of all dwelling in the land."

⁵ Yahweh is righteous in her midst; He will not do iniquity; morning by morning He will give His judgment for light; He is not deranged. Yet the iniquitous one is not knowing shame.

⁹ Thus speaks Yahweh of hosts, saying:Judge with true judgment, and with kindness and compassion deal each man with his brother, ¹⁰ and you must not extort from a widow or orphan or the sojourner or the humble. And you must not devise evil, each man to his brother, in your heart." ¹¹ Yet they are refusing to attend, and they are giving a stubborn shoulder, and their ears they make heavy against hearing,

⁴³ And if your hand should ever be snaring you, strike it off. It is ideal for you to be entering into life maimed, rather than, having two hands, to come away into Gehenna, into the unextinguished fire" ⁴⁴ where their worm is not deceasing and the fire is not going out. ⁴⁵ And if your foot should be snaring you, strike it off. For it is ideal for you to be entering into life maimed or lame, rather than, having two feet, to be cast into Gehenna, into the unextinguished fire, ⁴⁶ where their worm is not deceasing and the fire is not going out. ⁴⁷ And if your eye should be snaring you, cast it out. It is ideal for you to be entering into the kingdom of God one-eyed, rather than, having two eyes, to be cast into the Gehenna of fire, ⁴⁸ where their worm is not deceasing and the fire is not going out.

⁶⁹ And rouses a horn of salvation for us In the house of David, His boy,

³ Now there was a widow in that city, and she came to him, saying, 'Avenge me from my plaintiff.'" ⁴ And for a time he would not. Yet, after this, he said in himself, 'Even if I am not fearing God nor respecting man, ⁵ surely, because of the weariness this widow is affording me, I shall be avenging her, lest she, coming, may belabor me into a consummation.'"

⁴ For it is God's servant for your good. Now if you should be doing evil, fear, for not feignedly is it wearing the sword. For it is God's servant, an avenger for indignation to him who is committing evil."

⁸ Then you will tell your son in that day, saying: It is for the sake of this which Yahweh did for me when I went forth from Egypt.

²⁰ When they journeyed from Succoth and encamped at Etham, on the fringe of the wilderness,

⁶ And the king goes, and his men, to Jerusalem, unto the Jebusite, the inhabitant of the land, and they speak to David, saying, `You do not come in hither, except you turn aside the blind and the lame;' saying, `David does not come in hither.. ⁷ And David captures the fortress of Zion, it [is] the city of David.

² As Jerusalem has mountains round about it, So Yahweh is round about His people Henceforth and unto the eon."

¹ LOAD OF THE RAVINE OF ZION What is it to you, indeed, that you all go up to the housetops?

⁴ Do not trust for yourselves Unto the words of falsehood, saying, The temple of Yahweh, the temple of Yahweh, The temple of Yahweh [are] they!"

³⁰ Therefore, lo, I [am] against the prophets, An affirmation of Yahweh, Stealing My words each from his neighbor." ³¹ Lo, I [am] against the prophets, An affirmation of Yahweh, Who are making smooth their tongue, And they affirm--an affirmation." ³² Lo, I [am] against the prophets of false dreams, An affirmation of Yahweh, And they recount them, and cause my people to err, By their falsehoods, and by their instability, And I--I have not sent them, Nor have I commanded them, And they are not at all profitable to this people, An affirmation of Yahweh."

⁴ What--do you boast yourself in valleys? Flowed has your valley, O backsliding daughter, Who is trusting in her treasures:Who does come in unto me? ⁵ Lo, I am bringing in upon you a fear, An affirmation of the Lord Yahweh of Hosts, From all round about you, And you have been driven out each before it, And there is no gatherer of the wandering."

¹⁶ Your terribleness has lifted you up, The pride of your heart, O dweller in clefts of the rock, Holding the high place of the height, For you make high as an eagle your nest, From thence I bring you down, An affirmation of Yahweh."

³¹ Lo, I [am] against you, O pride, An affirmation of the Lord Yahweh of Hosts, For your day has come, the time of your inspection."

²⁵ Lo, I [am] against you, O destroying mount, An affirmation of Yahweh, That is destroying all the earth, And I have stretched out My hand against you, And I have rolled you from the rocks, And given you for a burnt mountain."

¹² The kings of the earth did not believe, nor any of the dwellers of the habitance, That foe and enemy could enter into the gateways of Jerusalem."

⁸ Therefore, thus said the Lord Yahweh:Because you have spoken vanity, and seen a lie, Therefore, lo, I [am] against you, An affirmation of the Lord Yahweh."

³ The arrogance of your heart lures you, O tabernacler in the holes of the crag. A height is his dwelling; he is saying in his heart, Who will bring me down to earth? ⁴ If you are elevated as the vulture, and if your nest is placed between the stars, thence will I bring you down (averring is Yahweh)."

¹¹ her heads are judging for a bribe, and her priests are directing for a price, and her prophets are divining for money, and on Yahweh they are leaning, saying:Is not Yahweh within us? Evil shall not come on us."

³¹ Thus they shall eat of the fruit of their way, And they shall be surfeited with the results of their counsels."

¹⁰ Say to the righteous that good is his portion, for the fruit of their actions are they eating." ¹¹ Alack to the wicked one; evil is his portion, for the requital of his hands is returning to him."

¹² Yet it comes, when Yahweh will clip off all His doings in mount Zion and in Jerusalem, I will visit evil on the fruit of the insolent heart of the king of Assyria, and the high beauty of his eyes."

¹⁸ and quenched is the glory of his wildwood, and his crop land. From the soul and unto the flesh, will He finish. And it comes to be as a fleeing when fleeing from a consuming blaze." ¹⁹ And the remainder of the trees of his wildwood will be a number that a lad will list them.

²¹ And it comes in that day, Yahweh will check over on the host of the height, in the height, and on the kings of the ground, on the ground,

¹⁰ For the defended city will be solitary; the homestead will be let go and forsaken as a wilderness. There the calf will graze, and there it will recline, and will finish its forked branches" ¹¹ when its grass is dry. Women shall look forward, coming to enlighten it, for it is not a people of understanding. Therefore no compassion is its Maker showing to it, and its Former will not be gracious to it."

²⁴ By the hand of your servants, your messengers, you reproach my Lord! And saying are you, `With a multitude of my chariots I go up the height of the mountains, the flanks of Lebanon, and I will cut the altitude of its cedars, its choice firs, and I will enter the height of its end, the wildwood of its crop land."

²⁹ The bellows have been burnt, By fire has the lead been consumed, In vain has a refiner refined, And the wicked have not been drawn away."

²⁵ Lo, days are coming--an affirmation of Yahweh, And I have laid a charge on all circumcised in the foreskin,

²² Therefore, thus said Yahweh of Hosts:`Lo, I am seeing after them, The chosen ones die by sword, Their sons and their daughters die by famine,

¹⁰ I Yahweh do search the heart, try the reins, Even to give to each according to his way, According to the fruit of his doings."

⁷ And I have separated for you destroyers, Each with his weapons, And they have cut down the choice of your cedars, And have cast them on the fire."

¹⁹ Great in counsel, and mighty in act, in that Your eyes are open on all the ways of the sons of Adam, to give to each according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:"

⁴⁶ Son of man, set your face the way of Teman, and prophesy unto the south, and prophesy unto the forest of the field--the south;"

¹ Open your doors, O Lebanon, and the fire shall devour among your cedars."

⁷ Be not decived, God is not to be sneered at, for whatsoever a man may be sowing, this shall he be reaping also, ⁸ for he who is sowing for his own flesh, from the flesh shall be reaping corruption, yet he who is sowing for the spirit, from the spirit shall be reaping life eonian."
