¹ Thus said Yahweh, `Go down [to] the house of the king of Judah, and you have spoken there this word, and have said, <sup>2</sup> Hear a word of Yahweh, O king of Judah, who are sitting on the throne of David, you, and your servants, and your people, who are coming in at these gates, <sup>3</sup> Thus said Yahweh:Do you judgment and righteousness, And deliver the plundered from the hand of the oppressor, And sojourner, orphan, and widow, you do not oppress nor wrong, And innocent blood you do not shed in this place." <sup>4</sup> For, if you certainly do this thing, Then come in by the gates of this house Have kings sitting for David on his throne, Riding on chariot, and on horses, He, and his servants, and his people." <sup>5</sup> And if you do not hear these words, By myself I have sworn--an affirmation of Yahweh, That this house is for a desolation." <sup>6</sup> For thus said Yahweh, Concerning the house of the king of Judah:Gilead [are] you to Me--head of Lebanon, If not--I make you a wilderness, Cities not inhabited." <sup>7</sup> And I have separated for you destroyers, Each with his weapons, And they have cut down the choice of your cedars, And have cast them on the fire." <sup>8</sup> And many nations have passed by this city, And they have said, each to his neighbor, For what has Yahweh done thus to this great city? <sup>9</sup> And they have said, `Because that they have forsaken The covenant of Yahweh their Elohim, And bow themselves to other elohims, and serve them.'" ¹⁰ You do not weep for the dead, nor bemoan for him, Weep you sore for the traveller, For he does not return again, Nor has he seen the land of his birth." ¹¹ For thus said Yahweh concerning Shallum son of Josiah king of Judah, who is reigning instead of Josiah his father, who has gone forth from this place:He does not turn back hither again;" ¹² For in the place whither they have removed him he dies, And this land he does not see again." ¹³ Woe to him who is building his house by unrighteousness, And his upper chambers by injustice, On his neighbor he lays service for nought, And his wage he does not give to him." ¹⁴ Who is saying, `I build for myself a large house, And airy upper chambers,' And he has cut out for himself its windows, Ceiled with cedar, and painted with vermilion." <sup>15</sup> Do you reign, because you are fretting yourself in cedar? Your father--did he not eat and drink? Yea, he did judgment and righteousness, Then [it is] well with him." <sup>16</sup> He decided the cause of the poor and needy, Then [it is] well--is it not to know Me? An affirmation of Yahweh." <sup>17</sup> But your eyes and your heart are not, Except on your dishonest gain, And on shedding of innocent blood, And on oppression, and on doing of violence." <sup>18</sup> Therefore, thus said Yahweh concerning Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah:They do not lament for him, Ah, my brother, and Ah, sister, They do not lament for him, Ah, lord, and Ah, his honor." <sup>19</sup> The burial of an ass--he is buried, Dragged and cast out thence to the gates of Jerusalem." <sup>20</sup> Go up to Lebanon, and cry, And in Bashan give forth your voice, And cry from Abarim, For destroyed have been all loving you." <sup>21</sup> I have spoken unto you in your ease, You have said, `I do not hearken,' This [is] your way from your youth, For you have not hearkened to My voice." ²² All your friends consume does wind, And your lovers into captivity do go, Surely then you are ashamed, And have blushed for all your wickedness." ²³ O dweller in Lebanon, making a nest among cedars, How gracious have you been when pangs come to you, Pain--as of a travailing woman." ²⁴ I live--an affirmation of Yahweh, Though Coniah son of Jehoiakim king of Judah Were a seal on My right hand, Surely thence I draw you away, ²⁵ And I have given you into the hand of those seeking your life, And into hands of which you are afraid, Into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, And into the hand of the Chaldeans." ²⁶ And I have cast you, And your mother who bore you, unto another country, Where you were not born, and there do you die." ²⁷ And to the land whither they are lifting up their soul to return, Thither they do not return." ²⁸ A grief--a despised broken thing--is this man Coniah? A vessel in which there is no pleasure? Wherefore have they been cast up and down, He and his seed, Yea, they were cast on to a land that they knew not? ²⁹ Earth, earth, earth, hear a word of Yahweh, ³⁰ Thus said Yahweh:Write you this man childless, A man--he does not prosper in his days, For none of his seed does prosper, Sitting on the throne of David, And ruling again in Judah!"

¹⁶ And Samuel said unto Saul, `Desist, and I declare to you that which Yahweh has spoken unto me to-night;' and he said to him, `Speak.. ¹⁷ And Samuel said, `Are not you, if you [are] little in your own eyes, head of the tribes of Israel? and Yahweh does anoint you for king over Israel, <sup>18</sup> and Yahweh sends you in the way, and said, Go, and you have devoted the sinners, the Amalekite, and fought against them till they are consumed;" <sup>19</sup> and why have you not hearkened to the voice of Yahweh--and do fly unto the spoil, and do do the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh?. <sup>20</sup> And Saul said unto Samuel, `Because--I have hearkened to the voice of Yahweh, and I go in the way which Yahweh has sent me, and bring in Agag king of Amalek, and Amalek I have devoted;" ²¹ and the people takes of the spoil of the flock and herd, the first part of the devoted thing, for sacrifice to Yahweh your Elohim in Gilgal.. ²² And Samuel said, `Has Yahweh had delight in burnt-offerings and sacrifices as [in] hearkening to the voice of Yahweh? lo, hearkening than sacrifice is better; to give attention than fat of rams;" ²³ for a sin of divination [is] rebellion, and iniquity and teraphim [is] stubbornness; because you have rejected the word of Yahweh, He also does reject you from [being] king..

¹ And Yahweh sends Nathan unto David, and he comes unto him, and said to him:`Two men have been in one city; One rich and one poor;"

¹¹ And David rises in the morning, and the word of Yahweh has been unto Gad the prophet, seer of David, saying, ¹² `Go, and you have spoken unto David, Thus said Yahweh:Three--I am lifting up for you, choose you one of them, and I do [it] to you..

¹⁸ `Rise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who [is] in Samaria, --lo, in the vineyard of Naboth, whither he has gone down to possess it, <sup>19</sup> and you have spoken unto him, saying, Thus said Yahweh, Have you murdered, and also possessed? and you have spoken unto him, saying, Thus said Yahweh, In the place where the dogs licked the blood of Naboth, do the dogs lick your blood, even your.. <sup>20</sup> And Ahab said unto Elijah, `Have you found me, O mine enemy?' and he said, `I have found--because of your selling yourself to do the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh;"

² and go out unto his presence does Jehu son of Hanani, the seer, and said unto king Jehoshaphat, `To give help to the wicked, and to those hating Yahweh, do you love? and for this against you [is] wrath from before Yahweh, ³ but good things have been found with you, for you have put away the shrines out of the land, and have prepared your heart to seek Elohim..

¹⁵ And the anger of Yahweh burns against Amaziah, and He sends unto him a prophet, and he said unto him, `Why have you sought the elohims of the people that have not delivered their people out of your hand?. <sup>16</sup> And it comes to pass, in his speaking unto him, that he said to him, `For a counsellor to the king have we appointed you? cease for you; why do they smite you?' And the prophet ceases, and said, `I have known that Elohim has counselled to destroy you, because you have done this, and have not hearkened to my counsel..

¹⁰ And Yahweh speaks unto Manasseh and unto his people, and they have not attended,

¹¹ And as to the house of the king of Judah, Hear you a word of Yahweh;"

² `Thus said Yahweh, Elohim of Israel:Go, and you have spoken unto Zedekiah king of Judah, and have said unto him, Thus said Yahweh:Lo, I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he has burned it with fire,

¹ Hear this, you priests! And attend, house of Israel! And house of the king, give ear, for, for you is the judgment; for a snare you become to the watch, and a net spread over a quarry, which seizers of prey set up."

¹³ Yet at Bethel you shall not continue to prophesy further, for the sanctuary of the king is it, and the house of the kingdom is it."

¹⁸ For John said to Herod that "It is not allowed you to have the wife of your brother."

¹⁹ Now Herod the tetrarch, being exposed by him concerning Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, and concerning all the wicked things which Herod does, ²⁰ adds this also to them all: he locks up John in jail.

¹⁹ And he said, `Therefore, hear a word of Yahweh; I have seen Yahweh sitting on His throne, and all the host of the heavens standing by Him, on His right and on His left;"

¹⁰ Hear the word of Yahweh, captains of Sodom! Give ear to the law of Elohim, you people of Gomorrah!"

⁷ To the increase of the chieftainship, and to the welfare shall be no end. On the throne of David, and over his kingdom, to prepare it, and to brace it with judgment and with justice, henceforth and in the future eon. The zeal of Yahweh of hosts will do this."

¹⁴ Wherefore, hear the word of Yahweh, mocking mortals, proverb quoters of this people who are in Jerusalem."

² Stand in the gate of the house of Yahweh, and you have proclaimed there this word, and have said, Hear a word of Yahweh, all you of Judah, who are coming in at these gates, to bow before Yahweh:"

¹⁸ Say to the king and to the mistress:Make yourselves low--sit still, For come down have your principalities, The crown of your beauty."

²⁰ and you have said unto them:Hear a word of Yahweh, you kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all inhabitants of Jerusalem, who are coming in by these gates, ²¹ Thus said Yahweh, Take you heed to yourselves, And you bear not a burden on the day of rest, Nor have you brought [it] in by the gates of Jerusalem." ²² Nor do you take out a burden from your houses on the day of rest, Yea, any work you do not do, And you have sanctified the day of rest, As I have commanded your fathers." ²³ And they have not hearkened nor inclined their ear, And they stiffen their neck not to hear, And not to receive instruction." ²⁴ And it has been, if you certainly hearken unto Me, An affirmation of Yahweh, So as not to bring in a burden By the gates of this city on the day of rest, And to sanctify the day of rest, So as not to do in it any work--" ²⁵ Then entered by the gates of this city have kings and princes, Sitting on the throne of David, Riding in a chariot, and on horses, They, and their princes, the man of Judah, And inhabitants of Jerusalem, And this city has remained to the eon." ²⁶ And they have come in from cities of Judah, And from suburbs of Jerusalem, And from the land of Benjamin, And from the low country, And from the hill-country, and from the south, Bringing in burnt-offering, and sacrifice, And present, and frankincense, And bringing praise [to] the house of Yahweh." ²⁷ And if you do not hearken unto me to sanctify the day of rest, And so as not to bear a burden, And to come in at the gates of Jerusalem on the day of rest, Then I have kindled a fire in its gates, And it has consumed the high places of Jerusalem, And it is not quenched!'"

³ and have said, Hear a word of Yahweh, you kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem, Thus said Yahweh of Hosts, Elohim of Israel:`Lo, I am bringing in evil on this place, at which the ears of every one who is hearing it do tingle,

⁴ For, if you certainly do this thing, Then come in by the gates of this house Have kings sitting for David on his throne, Riding on chariot, and on horses, He, and his servants, and his people."

²⁹ Earth, earth, earth, hear a word of Yahweh, ³⁰ Thus said Yahweh:Write you this man childless, A man--he does not prosper in his days, For none of his seed does prosper, Sitting on the throne of David, And ruling again in Judah!"

¹⁶ Surely thus said Yahweh concerning the king who is sitting on the throne of David, and concerning all the people that is dwelling in this city, your brethren who went not forth with you in the removal;" ¹⁷ Thus said Yahweh of Hosts, Lo, I am sending among them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and I have given them up as figs that [are] vile, that are not eaten for badness."

²⁰ `And you, hear you a word of Yahweh, all you of the captivity that I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon,

³⁰ `Therefore, thus said Yahweh, concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah:He has none sitting on the throne of David, and his carcase is cast out to heat by day, and to cold by night;"

⁷ Therefore, shepherds, hear a word of Yahweh:"

¹⁶ And now, hear the word of Yahweh, You are saying, You shall not prophesy against Israel, nor shall you drop a word against the house of Isaac."

³² He shall be great, and Son of the Most High shall He be called. And the Lord God shall be giving Him the throne of David,

²² Any widow or orphan you shall not humiliate.

⁶ You shall not turn aside the judgment of your needy in his contention. ⁷ From a false matter you shall be far; and the innocent and the righteous one you must not kill, for I shall not justify the wicked one. ⁸ You shall not take a bribe, for the bribe is blinding the unclosed eyes and is subverting the words of the righteous. ⁹ You shall not oppress a sojourner, for you know the soul of the sojourner, for you came to be sojourners in the land of Egypt.

¹⁵ You shall not do iniquity in judgment; you shall not lift up the face of the poor nor honor the face of the great. In righteousness shall you judge your companion.

¹⁸ the One executing judgment of orphan and widow, the One loving the sojourner, so as to give him bread and garment.

¹⁸ You shall appoint judges and superintendents for yourselves in all your gates which Yahweh your Elohim is giving to you for your tribes; and they will judge the people with just judgment. ¹⁹ You shall not turn aside the judgment; you shall neither recognize faces in partiality nor take a bribe, for the bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and subverts the words of the righteous. ²⁰ Justice and justice only shall you pursue, so that you may live and tenant the land that Yahweh your Elohim is giving to you.

¹⁰ Thus within your land that Yahweh your Elohim is giving to you as an allotment, the blood of the innocent shall not be shed so that no guilt of bloodshed comes to be on you. ¹¹ But if a man is hating his associate, and he waits in ambush for him, rises against him and smites his soul so that he dies, and he flees to one of these cities, ¹² then the elders of his city will send for him, take him from there and give him into the hand of the redeemer of blood so that he may die. ¹³ Your eye shall not commiserate over him. Thus you will eradicate from Israel the shedding of innocent blood, and it will be well with you.

⁷ In case a man should be found stealing a soul from his brothers of the sons of Israel, and he makes a chattel of him or sells him, then that thief must die. Thus you will eradicate the evil from among you.

¹ In case there should come to be a contention between men, and they come close for judgment, and they judge them, then they will justify the righteous and condemn the wicked.

¹⁹ Cursed be the one turning aside the judgment of the sojourner, the orphan or the widow. Then all the people will say:Amen!"

³ He said--the Elohim of Israel--to me, He spoke--the Rock of Israel:He who is ruling over man [is] righteous, He is ruling in the fear of Elohim.

⁴ and also the innocent blood that he has shed, and he fills Jerusalem with innocent blood, and Yahweh was not willing to forgive.

⁹ Widows you have sent away empty, And the arms of orphans you have crushed.

⁹ Yet others snatch the orphan from the breast, And they take as a pledge the unweaned of the humble.

⁷ When I went forth to the gate standing over the town And prepared my seat in the square, ⁸ The youths would see me and hide themselves, While the hoary-headed would rise and stand. ⁹ The chiefs would restrain their declarations And place the palm over their mouth; ¹⁰ The voices of the noblemen were hidden back, And their tongue would cling to their palate. ¹¹ When the ear heard, it called me happy, And when the eye saw, it testified in my favor. ¹² For I made a way of escape for the humble who implored, And the orphan and him who had no helper. ¹³ The blessing of the one perishing came on me, And I caused the heart of the widow to jubilate. ¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; My right judgment was as a robe and a turban. ¹⁵ I became eyes to the blind, And feet to the lame was I. ¹⁶ I was father to the needy ones, And the contention of him I knew not, I would investigate it. ¹⁷ I would break the fangs of the iniquitous And would fling the prey from his teeth.

⁵ The Father of orphans and Adjudicator of widows, Elohim in His holy habitation."

² May he adjudicate Your people with righteousness, And Your humbled ones with redress." ³ May the mountains bear peace for the people, And the hills blossom with righteousness." ⁴ May he redress the humbled of the people; May he save the sons of the needy And crush the exploiter.

⁶ They kill the widow and the sojourner, And they murder the orphans."

²¹ They slash against the soul of the righteous, And they condemn innocent blood."

¹⁷ Exalted eyes, a false tongue, And hands shedding innocent blood;"

¹⁰ Do not move away the boundary marker of the widow, And into the fields of the orphans do not enter,

¹⁵ And when you spread your palms to Me, I will obscure My eyes from you. Moreover, in case you are increasing your prayers, there is no hearing by Me. Your hands are full of blood. Amidst your fingers extrudes lawlessness." ¹⁶ Wash yourselves! Purge yourselves! Take away the evil of your actions from in front of My eyes! ¹⁷ Leave off the evil! Learn to be good! Inquire for judgment! Make happy the wronged! Judge the orphan! Contend for the widow! ¹⁸ Go, pray and it shall be corrected,saying is Yahweh. "If your sins are coming to be as double dipped scarlet, as snow shall they be white. If they are reddened as crimson, as wool shall they become." ¹⁹ If you are willing and hearken, the good of the land shall you eat." ²⁰ Yet if you are refusing and rebel, by the sword shall you be devoured. For the mouth of Yahweh speaks."

²³ Your chiefs are stubborn, and partners of thieves. Everyone loves a bribe, and pursues payments. The orphan they are not judging. And the contention of the widow is not coming to them."

²⁸ They have been fat, they have shone, Yea, they have overpassed the acts of the evil, Judgment they have not judged, The judgment of the fatherless--and they prosper, And the judgment of the needy they have not judged."

⁵ For, if you do thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, If you do judgment thoroughly Between a man and his neighbor, ⁶ Sojourner, fatherless, and widow, you oppress not, And innocent blood do not shed in this place, And after other elohims do not walk, for evil to yourselves,

²⁴ But--in this let the boaster boast himself, In understanding and knowing Me, For I [am] Yahweh, doing kindness, Judgment, and righteousness, in the earth, For in these I have delighted, An affirmation of Yahweh."

¹² O house of David, thus said Yahweh:Decide you judgment at morning, And deliver the plundered from the hand of the oppressor, Lest My fury go forth as fire, And has burned, and none is quenching, Because of the evil of your doings."

¹⁷ But your eyes and your heart are not, Except on your dishonest gain, And on shedding of innocent blood, And on oppression, and on doing of violence."

¹⁶ And the heads and all the people say unto the priests and unto the prophets, `There is not for this man a judgment of death, for in the name of Yahweh our Elohim he has spoken unto us.'"

⁷ Father and mother made light of in you, To a sojourner they dealt oppressively in your midst, Fatherless and widow they oppressed in you."

¹⁹ Egypt shall become a desolation, and Edom shall become a wilderness desolation because of wrong done to the sons of Judah--when they shed innocent blood in their land."

¹¹ her heads are judging for a bribe, and her priests are directing for a price, and her prophets are divining for money, and on Yahweh they are leaning, saying:Is not Yahweh within us? Evil shall not come on us."

⁸ He has told you, O humanity, what is good; and what is Yahweh requiring from you save to do judgment and love kindness, and to walk meekly with Yahweh your Elohim?

⁹ Thus speaks Yahweh of hosts, saying:Judge with true judgment, and with kindness and compassion deal each man with his brother, ¹⁰ and you must not extort from a widow or orphan or the sojourner or the humble. And you must not devise evil, each man to his brother, in your heart." ¹¹ Yet they are refusing to attend, and they are giving a stubborn shoulder, and their ears they make heavy against hearing,

⁵ Then I will come near to you for judgment, and become a hastening witness against the enchanters and against the adulterers, and against those who are swearing in My name to falsehood, and against those extorting the hire of the hireling, and those tyrannizing over the widow and taunting the orphan, and turning aside the sojourner, and do not fear Me, says Yahweh of hosts."

²⁷ for ritual clean and undefiled with God the Father is this: to be visiting the bereaved and widowed in their affliction, to be keeping oneself unspotted from the world."

²⁵ Then entered by the gates of this city have kings and princes, Sitting on the throne of David, Riding in a chariot, and on horses, They, and their princes, the man of Judah, And inhabitants of Jerusalem, And this city has remained to the eon."

¹⁶ By Myself I swear, averring is Yahweh, that, because you have done this thing and have not kept back your son, your only one, from Me,

²⁸ Say to them:As I am the living One (this is the averring of Yahweh), just as you have spoken into My ears so shall I assuredly do to you. ²⁹ In this wilderness your corpses shall fall:all your mustered ones, all of your number, from twenty years old and upward, you who have murmured against Me, ³⁰ you yourselves shall assuredly not come into the land in which I lifted My hand to tabernacle you, none save Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

⁴⁰ For I lift My hand to the heavens and declare:As I am the Life for the eon, ⁴¹ when I whet My flashing sword and My hand lays hold on judgment, I shall return vengeance to My foes, and to My haters shall I make repayment. ⁴² I shall make My arrows drunk with blood, and My sword shall devour flesh, the blood of the one mortally wounded and the captive, from the head of the enemy commanders.

¹⁹ and if you turn back--you--and have forsaken My statutes, and My commands, that I have placed before you, and have gone and served other elohims, and bowed yourselves to them--then I have plucked them from off My ground that I have given to them,

²² and they have said, Because that they have forsaken Yahweh, Elohim of their fathers, who brought them out from the land of Egypt, and lay hold on other elohims, and bow themselves to them, and serve them, therefore He has brought upon them all this evil..

¹¹ As I swear in My anger, They assuredly shall not enter into My resting place!"

²⁰ Yet if you are refusing and rebel, by the sword shall you be devoured. For the mouth of Yahweh speaks."

¹³ And now, because of your doing all these works, An affirmation of Yahweh, And I speak unto you, rising early and speaking, And you have not hearkened, And I call you, and you have not answered, ¹⁴ I also to the house on which My name is called, In which you are trusting, And to the place that I gave to you, and to your fathers, Have done, as I have done to Shiloh."

²⁷ And if you do not hearken unto me to sanctify the day of rest, And so as not to bear a burden, And to come in at the gates of Jerusalem on the day of rest, Then I have kindled a fire in its gates, And it has consumed the high places of Jerusalem, And it is not quenched!'"

⁶ Then I have given up this house as Shiloh, and this city I give up for a reviling to all nations of the earth.'" ⁷ And the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, hear Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of Yahweh, ⁸ And it comes to pass, at the completion of Jeremiah's speaking all that Yahweh has commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests, and the prophets, and all the people catch him, saying, You do surely die, ⁹ Wherefore have you prophesied in the name of Yahweh, saying, `As Shiloh this house shall be, and this city is wasted, without inhabitant?' and all the people are assembled unto Jeremiah in the house of Yahweh."

⁸ And the house of the king, and the house of the people, have the Chaldeans burnt with fire, and the walls of Jerusalem they have broken down."

⁸ My Lord Yahweh swears by His soul. Averring is Yahweh, Elohim of hosts:I am abhorring all the pomp of Jacob, and his citadels I hate, and I take away the city and its fullness."

⁷ Yahweh swears by the pomp of Jacob, if I shall forget permanently any of their doings--!" ⁸ Over this, shall not the land be disturbed? And everyone dwelling in it mourn? And it will ascend as a waterway, all of it, and it will be driven out and will be drowned as the waterway of Egypt."

¹² Wherefore, due to you, Zion shall be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become rubbish heaps, and the mountain of the house fane heights of a wildwood."

¹⁸ Now to whom does He swear, not to be entering into His stopping, except to the stubborn?

¹³ For God, promising Abraham, since He had no one greater to swear by, swears by Himself,

¹⁷ in which God, intending more superabundantly to exhibit to the enjoyers of the allotment of the promise the immutability of His counsel, interposes with an oath,

²⁵ And sitting down are they to eat bread. And lifting are they their eyes and seeing, and behold! A caravan of Ishmaelites are coming from Gilead with their camels, bearing perfume and balm and labdanum, going by to go down to Egypt.

²⁵ Let me cross over, I pray so I may see the good land that is across the Jordan, this good hill-country and the Lebanon.

³⁴ A fruitful area into a salty waste, Because of the evil of those dwelling in it."

¹⁵ His legs are like columns of marble, founded on sockets of glittering gold; His appearance is like Lebanon, choice as its cedars."

¹¹ And saying am I, "Till when, Yahweh?And saying is He, "Till the cities should tumult from having no dweller, and houses, from having no human. And the ground is remaining a desolation,

¹ Behold, Yahweh making void, the land, and evacuating it! And He denudes its surface, and scatters its dwellers." ² And it comes to be, as people, so priest, as servant, so his lord, as maid, so her mistress, as buyer, so seller, as borrowee, so borrower, as lender, so him to whom is lent." ³ Voided, yea voided shall be the land, and plundered, yea plundered shall be the ground. For the mouth of Yahweh speaks this word." ⁴ Mournful, disintegrated is the earth. Enfeebled, disintegrated is the habitance. Enfeebled are the heights of the people of the land, ⁵ and the land is polluted under its dwellers. For they trespass against the laws; they vary the statute; they annul the covenant eonian. ⁶ Therefore an imprecation devours the land, and dwellers in it are guilty. Therefore the dwellers are drained out of the land, and there remain but a bit of the mortals."

¹⁰ For the defended city will be solitary; the homestead will be let go and forsaken as a wilderness. There the calf will graze, and there it will recline, and will finish its forked branches"

²⁰ Destruction on destruction is proclaimed, For spoiled has been all the land, Suddenly spoiled have been my tents, In a moment--my curtains."

³⁴ And I have caused to cease from cities of Judah, And from streets of Jerusalem, The voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, Voice of bridegroom, and voice of bride, For the land does become a desolation!"

¹¹ And I make Jerusalem become heaps, A habitation of dragons, And the cities of Judah I make a desolation, Without inhabitant."

⁷ And I have made void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place, and have caused them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of those seeking their life, and I have given their carcase for food to the fowl of the heavens, and to the beast of the earth, ⁸ and I have made this city for a desolation, and for a hissing, every passer by it is astonished, and does hiss for all its plagues."

¹⁴ And I have laid a charge against you, According to the fruit of your doings, An affirmation of Yahweh, And I have kindled a fire in its forest, And it has consumed--all its suburbs!"

²⁴ I live--an affirmation of Yahweh, Though Coniah son of Jehoiakim king of Judah Were a seal on My right hand, Surely thence I draw you away,

⁹ Lo, I am sending, and have taken all the families of the north--an affirmation of Yahweh--even unto Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, My servant, and have brought them in against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations round about, and have devoted them, and appointed them for an astonishment, and for a hissing, and for wastes eonian." ¹⁰ And I have destroyed from them the voice of rejoicing, and the voice of joy, voice of bridegroom and voice of bride, noise of millstones, and the light of lamps."

¹⁸ `Micah the Morashtite has been prophesying in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and he said unto all the people of Judah, saying:Thus said Yahweh of Hosts:Zion is a plowed field, and Jerusalem is heaps, And the mountain of the house is for high places of a forest."

²⁷ Thus do you say unto them:Thus said the Lord Yahweh:I live--do not they who [are] in the wastes by the sword fall? And they who [are] on the face of the field, To the beast I have given for food, And they who are in strongholds and in caves by pestilence die." ²⁸ And I have made the land a desolation and an astonishment, And ceased has the excellency of its strength, And desolated have been mountains of Israel, Without any one passing through."

³ Yet what will you do in the day of visitation, and in the tumult which shall come from afar? To whom will you flee for help, and whither will you leave your glory? ⁴ Barring one bows under a prisoner, or under the killed, they shall fall. And in all this His anger does not reverse, and His hand is outstretched still!" ⁵ Woe, Assyria! Club of My anger! And a rod! He, in their hand, is My menace!" ⁶ Among a nation polluted will I send him. And against a people, object of My rage, will I instruct him. To loot loot and to plunder plunder, and to place them for tramping, as the clay of the streets." ⁷ Yet he, not so is he planning, and his heart, not so is devising, for to exterminate is in his heart, and to cut off nations not a few."

³³ Behold the Lord, Yahweh of hosts, forking the foliage with terror! And the high in altitude is He hacking, and the lofty are being abased." ³⁴ And he fells the thickets of the wildwood with iron. The high are falling by the sword, and Lebanon is falling by a noble."

³ I, I instruct My hallowed. And I call them. Moreover, I call My masters, for My anger, even My joyous and My proud." ⁴ The sound of a throng in the mountains, like many people! The sound of tumult of kingdoms, of nations being gathered! Yahweh of hosts is Musterer of the battle host" ⁵ coming from a land afar, from the end of the heavens, Yahweh and the instruments of His menace, to harm the entire earth."

Women shall look forward, coming to enlighten it, for it is not a people of understanding. Therefore no compassion is its Maker showing to it, and its Former will not be gracious to it."

²⁴ By the hand of your servants, your messengers, you reproach my Lord! And saying are you, `With a multitude of my chariots I go up the height of the mountains, the flanks of Lebanon, and I will cut the altitude of its cedars, its choice firs, and I will enter the height of its end, the wildwood of its crop land."

¹⁶ Behold! I, I created the artificer who blows into the fire of coal, and brings forth an implement for his occupation. And I, I created the ruiner to harm." ¹⁷ Any implement formed against you shall not prosper, and any tongue which rises against you for judgment you shall condemn. This is the allotment of the servants of Yahweh, and their righteousness is from Me,averring is Yahweh."

⁶ Lift up an ensign Zionward, Strengthen yourselves, stand not still, For evil I am bringing in from the north, And a great destruction." ⁷ Gone up has a lion from his thicket, And a destroyer of nations has journeyed, He has come forth from his place To make your land become a desolation, Your cities are laid waste, without inhabitant."

¹⁵ Lo, I am bringing against you a nation from afar, O house of Israel, an affirmation of Yahweh, A nation--strong it [is], a nation--from of old it [is], A nation--you know not its tongue, Nor understand what it speaks."

²⁰ In those days, and at that time, An affirmation of Yahweh, Sought is the iniquity of Israel, and it is not, And the sin of Judah, and it is not found, For I am propitious to those whom I leave!" ²¹ Against the land of Merathaim:Go up against it, and unto the inhabitants of Pekod, Waste and devote their posterity, An affirmation of Yahweh, And do according to all that I have commanded you." ²² A noise of battle [is] in the land, and of great destruction." ²³ How has it been cut and broken, The hammer of the whole earth! How has Babylon been for a desolation among nations!"

¹ And He cries in mine ears--a loud voice--saying, `Drawn near have inspectors of the city, and each his destroying weapon in his hand.'" <sup>2</sup> And lo, six men are coming from the way of the upper gate, that is facing the north, and each his slaughter-weapon in his hand, and one man in their midst is clothed with linen, and a scribe's inkhorn at his loins, and they come in, and stand near the brazen altar." <sup>3</sup> And the honor of the Elohim of Israel has gone up from off the cherub, on which it has been, unto the threshold of the house." <sup>4</sup> And He calls unto the man who is clothed with linen, who has the scribe's inkhorn at his loins, and Yahweh said unto him, `Pass on into the midst of the city, into the midst of Jerusalem, and you have made a mark on the foreheads of the men who are sighing and who are groaning for all the abominations that are done in its midst.'" ⁵ And to the others he said in mine ears, `Pass on into the city after him, and smite; your eye does not pity, nor do you spare;" <sup>6</sup> aged, young man, and virgin, and infant, and women, you do slay--to destruction; and against any man on whom [is] the mark you do not go nigh, and from My sanctuary you begin.'" <sup>7</sup> And they begin among the aged men who [are] before the house, and He said unto them, `Defile the house, and fill the courts with the wounded, go forth.' And they have gone forth and have smitten in the city."

¹ Open your doors, O Lebanon, and the fire shall devour among your cedars."

⁷ Now the king is angered, and, sending his troops, destroys those murderers and sets their city in flames."

²³ its whole land a burnt waste of sulfur and salt; it shall not be sown, neither shall it sprout, nor shall any herbage ascend in it, like the overturning of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which Yahweh overturned in His anger and in His fury-. ²⁴ hence all the nations will ask:Why did Yahweh do thus to this land? Why the heat of this great anger? ²⁵ Then some will answer:Because they forsook the covenant of Yahweh Elohim of their fathers, that He had contracted with them when He brought them forth from the country of Egypt, ²⁶ for they went off and served other elohim and bowed themselves down to them, elohim whom they had neither known, nor had He apportioned for them.

⁸ as to this house, [that] is high, every one passing by it is astonished, and has hissed, and they have said, Wherefore has Yahweh done thus to this land and to this house? ⁹ and they have said, Because that they have forsaken Yahweh their Elohim, who brought out their fathers from the land of Egypt, and they lay hold on other elohims, and bow themselves to them, and serve them; therefore has Yahweh brought in upon them all this evil..

²⁰ and this house that I have sanctified for My name, I cast from before My face, and make it for a proverb, and for a byword, among all the peoples. ²¹ `And this house that has been high, to every one passing by it, is an astonishment, and he has said, Wherefore has Yahweh done thus to this land, and to this house? ²² and they have said, Because that they have forsaken Yahweh, Elohim of their fathers, who brought them out from the land of Egypt, and lay hold on other elohims, and bow themselves to them, and serve them, therefore He has brought upon them all this evil..

¹⁰ And it has come to pass when you declare to this people all these words, and they have said unto you, `For what has Yahweh spoken against us all this great evil? yea, what [is] our iniquity, and what our sin, that we have sinned against Yahweh our Elohim?'"

¹⁵ They slap their palms at you, all who pass your way; They hiss and jerk their head to and fro at the daughter of Jerusalem:Is this the city which they call the consummation of loveliness, the elation of the entire earth? ¹⁶ They open their mouth wide at you, all your enemies; They hiss and gnash their teeth; they say, We have swallowed them up! Yea, this is the day that we expected; we have come upon it and have seen it!" ¹⁷ Yahweh has done what He had planned; He has carried through His saying, What He determined from days long ago; He has demolished and has not spared; And He is making the enemy rejoice over you; He exalts the horn of your foes."

¹² The kings of the earth did not believe, nor any of the dwellers of the habitance, That foe and enemy could enter into the gateways of Jerusalem."

⁷ To Thee, my Lord, is righteousness, yet to us is shamefacedness as at this day:To each man of Judah, to the dwellers of Jerusalem, to all the people of Israel, the near and the far, in all the lands where Thou hast expelled them for their offense with which they offend Thee."

²⁵ Then some will answer:Because they forsook the covenant of Yahweh Elohim of their fathers, that He had contracted with them when He brought them forth from the country of Egypt, ²⁶ for they went off and served other elohim and bowed themselves down to them, elohim whom they had neither known, nor had He apportioned for them. ²⁷ Hence the anger of Yahweh grew hot against that land so as to bring upon it all the malediction that is written in this scroll. ²⁸ So Yahweh plucked them up off their ground in anger, in fury and in great wrath, and He flung them into another country as it is this day.

¹⁷ because that they have forsaken Me, and make perfume to other elohims, so as to provoke Me to anger with every work of their hands, and My wrath has been kindled against this place, and it is not quenched.

²⁵ because that they have forsaken Me, and make perfume to other elohims, so as to provoke Me with all the works of their hands, and poured out is My fury upon this place, and it is not quenched.

¹⁷ Do you not do this to yourself? [By] your forsaking Yahweh your Elohim, At the time He is leading you in the way? ¹⁸ And now, what--to you in the way of Egypt, To drink the waters of Sihor? And what--to you in the way of Asshur, To drink the waters of the River? ¹⁹ Instruct you does your wickedness, And your backslidings reprove you, Know and see that an evil and a bitter thing [Is] your forsaking Yahweh your Elohim, And My fear not being on you, An affirmation of the Lord Yahweh of Hosts."

² And the chief of the executioners takes Jeremiah, and said unto him, `Yahweh your Elohim has spoken this evil concerning this place, ³ and Yahweh brings [it] in, and does as He spoke, because you have sinned against Yahweh, and have not hearkened to His voice, even this thing has been to you."

⁷ All finding them have devoured them, And their adversaries have said:We are not guilty, Because that they sinned against Yahweh, The habitation of righteousness, And the hope of their fathers--Yahweh."

²⁰ therefore, lo, I am gathering you unto your fathers, and you have been gathered unto your grave in peace, and your eyes do not look on any of the evil that I am bringing in on this place;' and they bring the king back word.

³⁰ And his servants cause him to ride dying from Megiddo, and bring him in to Jerusalem, and bury him in his own grave, and the people of the land take Jehoahaz son of Josiah, and anoint him, and cause him to reign instead of his father. ³¹ A son of twenty and three years [is] Jehoahaz in his reigning, and three months he has reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother [is] Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah, ³² and he does the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh, according to all that his fathers did, ³³ and Pharaoh-Nechoh binds him in Riblah, in the land of Hamath, from reigning in Jerusalem, and he puts a fine on the land--a hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold. ³⁴ And Pharaoh-Nechoh causes Eliakim son of Josiah to reign instead of Josiah his father, and turns his name to Jehoiakim, and Jehoahaz he has taken away, and he comes in to Egypt, and dies there.

²³ and the archers shoot at king Josiah, and the king said to his servants, `Remove me, for I have become very sick.. ²⁴ And his servants remove him from the chariot, and cause him to ride on the second chariot that he has, and cause him to go to Jerusalem, and he dies, and is buried in the graves of his fathers, and all Judah and Jerusalem are mourning for Josiah, ²⁵ and Jeremiah laments for Josiah, and all the singers and the songstresses speak in their lamentations of Josiah unto this day, and set them for a statute on Israel, and lo, they are written beside the lamentations.

² So I lauded the dead, those who had already died, Over the living, those who are still alive;"

¹ And the righteous one perishes, and no man is laying it to heart, and kind mortals are being gathered, yet no one is understanding. For, in view of the evil, gathered are the righteous,

¹¹ For thus said Yahweh concerning Shallum son of Josiah king of Judah, who is reigning instead of Josiah his father, who has gone forth from this place:He does not turn back hither again;"

¹⁸ Therefore, thus said Yahweh concerning Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah:They do not lament for him, Ah, my brother, and Ah, sister, They do not lament for him, Ah, lord, and Ah, his honor."

⁹ Better off were they who were slain by the sword than those slain by famine, Those who are succumbing, stabbed from lack of produce of the field."

³ And she brings up one of her whelps, A young lion it has been, And it learns to tear prey, man it has devoured." ⁴ And hear of it do nations, In their pit it has been caught, And they bring it in with chains unto the land of Egypt."

²⁸ Now being turned toward them, Jesus said, "Daughters of Jerusalem! Do not lament over Me! However, over yourselves lament, and over your children,

³¹ A son of twenty and three years [is] Jehoahaz in his reigning, and three months he has reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother [is] Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah,

¹⁵ And sons of Josiah:the first-born Johanan, the second Jehoiakim, the third Zedekiah, the fourth Shallum.

¹² And certain of the heads of the sons of Ephraim (Azariah son of Johanan, Berechiah son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah son of Shallum, and Amasa son of Hadlai), rise up against those coming in from the host,

²² And Hilkiah goes, and they of the king, unto Huldah the prophetess, wife of Shallum son of Tikvath, son of Hasrah, keeper of the garments, and she is dwelling in Jerusalem in the Second, and they speak unto her thus.

¹ And the people of the land take Jehoahaz son of Josiah, and cause him to reign instead of his father in Jerusalem. ² A son of three and twenty years [is] Jehoahaz in his reigning, and three months he has reigned in Jerusalem, ³ and turn him aside does the king of Egypt in Jerusalem, and fines the land a hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold;" ⁴ and the king of Egypt causes Eliakim his brother to reign over Judah and Jerusalem, and turns his name to Jehoiakim; and Jehoahaz his brother has Necho taken, and brings him in to Egypt.

¹³ You shall not extort from your associate, nor shall you pillage. The wage of a hireling shall not lodge with you until morning.

¹⁴ You shall not extort from a humble and needy hireling, whether from your brothers or from your sojourner who is in your land, within your gates. ¹⁵ On his day you shall give him his hire, and the sun shall not set on it ( for he is humble, and to it he is lifting his soul) that he may not call against you to Yahweh, and it would become a sin on your part.

³⁵ And the silver and the gold has Jehoiakim given to Pharaoh; only he valued the land to give the silver by the command of Pharaoh; from each, according to his valuation, he exacted the silver and the gold, from the people of the land, to give to Pharaoh-Nechoh. ³⁶ A son of twenty and five years [is] Jehoiakim in his reigning, and eleven years he has reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother [is] Zebudah daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah, ³⁷ and he does the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh, according to all that his fathers did.

⁴ and the king of Egypt causes Eliakim his brother to reign over Judah and Jerusalem, and turns his name to Jehoiakim; and Jehoahaz his brother has Necho taken, and brings him in to Egypt.

¹⁰ Naked they go without clothing, And hungry they carry the sheaf. ¹¹ Without their songs they clarify oil; They tread the wine vats yet are thirsty.

¹⁰ building Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with iniquity;"

⁹ Woe to him gaining an evil gain for his house in order to place his nest in the height, to be rescued from the clutch of evil!" ¹⁰ You counsel shame for your house to cut away many peoples, and are sinning against your soul, ¹¹ for the stone from the sidewall shall cry out, and the knot from the timber shall answer it."

⁴ Lo! the wage of the workers, who mow your country places, which has been withheld by you, is crying, and the imploring of the reapers has entered into the ears of the Lord of hosts."

² that the king said unto Nathan the prophet, `See, I pray you, I am dwelling in a house of cedars, and the ark of Elohim is dwelling in the midst of the curtain..

⁵ And the large house he has covered with fir-trees, and he does cover it with good gold, and causes to ascend on it palms and chains,

¹⁹ He who loves transgression loves strife; He who makes his portal lofty seeks its breaking down.

²⁷ Prepare your work outside, and equip it for yourself in the field; Afterward you may then build up your household."

¹⁷ The rafters of our grand house are cedars, And our gutters are firs."

⁸ Woe to those touching house to house, bringing field near to field unto the limits of a place! That from an associate they may withdraw it, and it causes you to dwell all alone within the land!" ⁹ For it is heard in the ears of Yahweh of hosts:"Would not many houses great and good come to desolation from having no dweller?

⁹ And the people know, all of them, Ephraim and the dweller of Samaria, who, in pride and a greatly swollen heart, are saying,

³⁰ Responding is the king to all this by saying, "Is not this Babylon great that I have built to be the house of the kingdom within the might of my safeguarding walls, for the esteem of my honor!"

⁴ Is it the season for you yourselves to dwell in your ceiled houses while this house is deserted?

⁴ Though Edom shall say, We are destitute, yet we will return and will build the deserted places, thus says Yahweh of hosts:They will build, yet I will demolish. And they will call them Boundary of wickedness and The people whom Yahweh menaces till the eon."

²⁸ For which of you, wanting to build a tower, is not first seated to calculate the expense, to see if he has the wherewithal?-" ²⁹ lest at some time, he laying a foundation and not being strong enough to finish up, all those beholding should begin to scoff at him,

⁴⁰ Hence you will observe His statutes and His instructions which I am enjoining on you today, that it may be well with you and your sons after you, and that you may prolong your days on the ground that Yahweh your Elohim is giving to you, all the days.

¹⁵ And David reigns over all Israel, and David is doing judgment and righteousness to all his people,

²⁰ Judah and Israel [are] many, as the sand that [is] by the sea for multitude, eating and drinking and rejoicing. ²¹ And Solomon has been ruling over all the kingdoms, from the River [to] the land of the Philistines and unto the border of Egypt:they are bringing nigh a present, and serving Solomon, all days of his life. ²² And the provision of Solomon for one day is thirty cors of flour, and sixty cors of meal;" ²³ ten fat oxen, and twenty feeding oxen, and a hundred sheep, apart from hart, and roe, and fallow-deer, and fatted beasts of the stalls,

⁹ Yahweh your Elohim is blessed who delighted in you, to put you on the throne of Israel; in Yahweh's loving Israel to the eon He does set you for king, to do judgment and righteousness.

² and he does that which is right in the eyes of Yahweh, and walks in all the way of David his father, and has not turned aside--right or left.

²⁵ And like him there has not been before him a king who turned back unto Yahweh with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses, and after him there has none risen like him.

² and he does that which is right in the eyes of Yahweh, and walks in the ways of David his father, and has not turned aside--right or left.

⁷ And Josiah lifts up to the sons of the people a flock of lambs and young goats, the whole for passover-offerings, for every one who is found, to the number of thirty thousand, and oxen three thousand:these [are] from the substance of the king. ⁸ And his heads, for a willing-offering to the people, to the priests, and to the Levites, have lifted up; Hilkiah, and Zechariah, and Jehiel, leaders in the house of Elohim, to the priests have given for passover-offerings two thousand and six hundred, and oxen three hundred;"

¹² and they turn aside the burnt-offering, to put them by the divisions of the house of the fathers of the sons of the people, to bring near to Yahweh, as it is written in the book of Moses--and so to the oxen. ¹³ And they cook the passover with fire, according to the ordinance, and the sanctified things they have cooked in pots, and in kettles, and in pans--for all the sons of the people. ¹⁴ And afterward they have prepared for themselves, and for the priests:for the priests, sons of Aaron, [are] in the offering up of the burnt-offering and of the fat till night; and the Levites have prepared for themselves, and for the priests, sons of Aaron. ¹⁵ And the singers, sons of Asaph, [are] on their station, according to the command of David, and Asaph, and Heman, and Jeduthun seer of the king, and the gate keepers [are] at gate and gate; it is not for them to turn aside from off their service, for their brethren the Levites have prepared for them. ¹⁶ And all the service of Yahweh is prepared on that day, to keep the passover, and to cause to ascend burnt-offering upon the altar of Yahweh, according to the command of king Josiah. ¹⁷ And the sons of Israel who are found make the passover at that time, and the feast of unleavened things, seven days. ¹⁸ And there has not been made a passover like it in Israel from the days of Samuel the prophet, and none of the kings of Israel made such a passover as Josiah has made, and the priests, and the Levites, and all Judah and Israel who are found, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

¹ {A Song of Ascents{ Happy is everyone who is fearing Yahweh, Who is walking in His ways." ² The fruit of the labor of your palms shall you surely eat; Happy are you, and it will be well for you."

²⁸ Benignity and truth preserve the king, And by benignity his throne is braced."

³ To do justice and right judgment Is more choice to Yahweh than sacrifice.

⁵ Remove away the wicked one from before the king, And his throne shall be established in righteousness."

⁴ A king by right judgment makes a country stand firm, Yet a man greedy for heave offerings pulls it down."

⁹ Open your mouth; judge righteously; And adjudicate the humble and needy one.

²⁴ There is nothing better for a man than that he should eat and drink And cause his soul to see good from his toil; This too I see that it is from the hand of Elohim.

⁷ Go, eat your bread with rejoicing, and drink your wine with good heart, For already the One, Elohim, has approved of your works." ⁸ In every season, let your garments be white, And oil on your head, let in not be lacking." ⁹ See life with a wife whom you love all the days of your vain life, Which He gives to you under the sun--all your vain days, For this is your portion in life And in your toil that you are toiling under the sun." ¹⁰ All that your hand finds to do, do with your vigor, For there is no doing or devising or knowledge or wisdom In the unseen where you are going."

¹⁷ Happy are you, O country, whose king is a son of notables, And whose chiefs eat in season For mastery and not for a drinking bout."

¹⁰ Say to the righteous that good is his portion, for the fruit of their actions are they eating."

¹⁶ he shall tabernacle on the heights, fastnesses of crags are his impregnable retreat. His bread shall be bestowed. His water shall be assured."

³ Thus said Yahweh:Do you judgment and righteousness, And deliver the plundered from the hand of the oppressor, And sojourner, orphan, and widow, you do not oppress nor wrong, And innocent blood you do not shed in this place."

⁵ Lo, days are coming--an affirmation of Yahweh, And I have raised to David a righteous shoot, And a king has reigned and acted wisely, And done judgment and righteousness in the earth."

⁶ Whether good or evil, to the voice of Yahweh our Elohim, to whom we are sending you, we do hearken; because it is good for us when we hearken to the voice of Yahweh our Elohim.'"

⁴¹ However, what is within be giving as alms, and lo! all is clean to you."

⁴⁶ Besides persevering day by day with one accord in the sanctuary, besides breaking bread home by home, they partook of nourishment with exultation and simplicity of heart,

³¹ Then, whether you are eating or drinking, or anything you are doing, do all for the glory of God."

² There is none holy like Yahweh, For there is none save You, And there is no rock like our Elohim.

⁹ `And you, Solomon, my son, know the Elohim of your father, and serve Him with a perfect heart, and with a willing mind, for all hearts is Yahweh seeking, and every imagination of the thoughts He is understanding; if you do seek Him, He is found of you, and if you do forsake Him, He casts you off for ever.

¹⁰ So those knowing Your Name shall trust in You, For You do not forsake those seeking after You, O Yahweh.

¹ {Solomonic{ O Elohim, bestow Your right judgments on the king, And Your righteousness on the royal son."

¹² For He shall rescue the needy one imploring, And the humbled one, when there is no helper for him." ¹³ He shall be a refuge for the poor and needy one, And the souls of the needy shall He save."

³ Redress the poor and the orphan; To the humbled and destitute grant justice. ⁴ Deliver the poor and the needy; From the hand of the wicked, give rescue."

³¹ For He is standing at the right hand of the needy one, In order to save him from those judging his soul."

¹¹ Rescue those being taken to death, And you should keep back those who are slipping away to the kill." ¹² If you say, Behold, we know nothing about this, Does not He Who regulates hearts detect it, And He Who preserves your soul know it, Who will render to a man according to his deeds?

¹⁷ Leave off the evil! Learn to be good! Inquire for judgment! Make happy the wronged! Judge the orphan! Contend for the widow!

³ And they bend their tongue, their bow [is] a lie, And not for stedfastness have they been mighty in the land, For from evil unto evil they have gone forth, And Me they have not known, An affirmation of Yahweh!"

¹⁶ And I have scattered them among nations Which they knew not, they and their fathers, And have sent after them the sword, Till I have consumed them."

³³ For this [is] the covenant that I make, With the house of Israel, after those days, An affirmation of Yahweh, I have given My law in their inward part, And on their heart I do write it, And I have been to them for Elohim, And they are to me for a people." ³⁴ And they do not teach any more Each his neighbor, and each his brother, Saying, Know you Yahweh, For they all know Me, from their least unto their greatest, An affirmation of Yahweh; For I pardon their iniquity, And of their sin I make mention no more."

¹⁹ They said, then, to Him, "Where is your father?Jesus answered and said, "Neither with Me are you acquainted, nor with My Father. If you were acquainted with Me, you should be acquainted with My Father also."

⁵⁴ Jesus answered, "If I should ever be glorifying Myself, My glory is nothing. It is My Father Who is glorifying Me, of Whom you are saying that He is your God." ⁵⁵ And you know Him not, yet I am acquainted with Him, and if I should be saying that I am not acquainted with Him, I shall be like you, a liar. But I am acquainted with Him and I am keeping His word."

³ And these things will they be doing to you, for they know not the Father nor even Me."

³ Now it is eonian life that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Him Whom Thou dost commission, Jesus Christ."

⁶ I manifest Thy name to the men whom Thou givest Me out of the world. Thine they were, and to Me Thou givest them, and Thy word they have kept."

¹⁶ They are avowing an acquaintance with God, yet by their acts are denying it, being abominable and stubborn, and disqualified for every good act."

³ And in this we know that we know Him, if we should be keeping His precepts." ⁴ He who is saying that "I know Himand is not keeping His precepts, is a liar, and the truth of God is not in this one."

²¹ Now you shall perceive among all the people men of ability, fearful of Elohim, men of truth, hating gain. You will place these over them as chiefs of thousands, chiefs of hundreds, chiefs of fifties and chiefs of tens.

²¹ and I see among the spoil a goodly robe of Shinar, and two hundred shekels of silver, and one wedge of gold, whose weight [is] fifty shekels, and I desire them, and take them; and lo, they [are] hid in the earth, in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it..

¹⁹ and you have spoken unto him, saying, Thus said Yahweh, Have you murdered, and also possessed? and you have spoken unto him, saying, Thus said Yahweh, In the place where the dogs licked the blood of Naboth, do the dogs lick your blood, even your..

⁸ And the rest of the matters of Jehoiakim, and his abominations that he has done, and that which is found against him, lo, they are written on the book of the kings of Israel and Judah, and reign does Jehoiachin his son in his stead.

⁷ If my movements have turned aside from the way, And my heart has run after what my eyes see, And any blemish clings to my palms,

³ For the wicked one boasts over the lusting of his soul, And the greedy one scorns, Yea, he spurns Yahweh.

³⁶ Stretch out my heart to Your testimonies, And not at all to selfish gain." ³⁷ Avert my eyes from looking at futile things; Revive me in Your way.

²² And the king Jehoiakim sends men to Egypt--Elnathan son of Achbor, and men with him unto Egypt--" ²³ And they bring out Urijah from Egypt, and bring him in unto the king Jehoiakim, and he smites him with a sword, and casts his corpse unto the graves of the sons of the people.'" ²⁴ Only, the hand of Ahikam son of Shaphan has been with Jeremiah so as not to give him up into the hand of the people to put him to death."

⁶ And it goes up and down in the midst of lions, A young lion it has been, And it learns to tear prey, man it has devoured."

³¹ And they come in unto you as the coming in of a people, And they sit before you--My people, And have heard your words, and they do them not, For doting loves with their mouth they are making, After their dishonest gain their heart is going."

³ Her chiefs within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they pick clean, leaving nothing for the morning."

²¹ For from inside, out of the heart of men, are going out evil reasonings, prostitutions, thefts, murders, ²² adulteries, greed, wickedness, guile, wantonness, a wicked eye, calumny, pride, imprudence."

¹⁵ Now He said to them, "See and guard against all greed, for one's life is not in the superfluity of his possessions." ¹⁶ Now He told them a parable, saying, "The country place of a certain rich man bears well." ¹⁷ And he reasoned in himself, saying, 'What shall I be doing, seeing that I have no where to gather my fruits?'" ¹⁸ And he said, 'This will I be doing: I will pull down my barns, and greater ones will I build, and I will gather there all my grain and my good things." ¹⁹ And I will be declaring to my soul, "Soul, many good things have you laid up for many years. Rest, eat, drink, make merry."'" ²⁰ Yet God said to him, 'Imprudent one! In this night your soul are they demanding from you. Now, what you make ready, whose will it be?'" ²¹ Thus is he who is hoarding for himself and is not rich for God."

¹³ No domestic can be slaving for two lords, for either he will be hating one and loving the other, or he will be upholding one and despising the other. You can not slave for God and mammon." ¹⁴ Now the Pharisees also, inherently fond of money, heard all these things, and they scouted Him."

²⁹ filled with all injustice, wickedness, evil, greed, distended with envy, murder, strife, guile, depravity, whisperers,

¹⁰ nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards; no revilers, no extortioners shall be enjoying the allotment of God's kingdom."

³ Now, all prostitution and uncleanness or greed - let it not even be named among you, according as is becoming in saints -" ⁴ and vileness and stupid speaking or insinuendo, which are not proper, but rather thanksgiving." ⁵ For this you perceive, knowing that no paramour at all or unclean or greedy person, who is an idolater, has any enjoyment of the allotment in the kingdom of Christ and of God."

⁵ Deaden, then, your members that are on the earth: prostitution, uncleanness, passion, evil desire and greed, which is idolatry,

⁹ Now, those intending to be rich are falling into a trial and a trap and the many foolish and harmful desires which are swamping men in extermination and destruction." ¹⁰ For a root of all of the evils is the fondness for money, which some, craving, were led astray from the faith and try themselves on all sides with much pain."

¹⁴ Now each one is undergoing trial when he is drawn away and lured by his own desire. ¹⁵ Thereafter, the desire, conceiving, is bringing forth sin. Now sin, fully consummated, is teeming forth death."

³ and in greed, with suave words, they will traffic in you, whose judgment of old is not idling, and their destruction is not nodding."

¹⁴ having the distended eyes of an adulteress, and that do not stop from sin, luring unstable souls, having a heart exercised by greed, children of a curse." ¹⁵ Be not loving the world, neither that which is in the world. If ever anyone is loving the world, the love of the Father is not in him, ¹⁶ for everything that is in the world, the desire of the flesh, and the desire of the eyes, and the ostentation of living, is not of the Father, but is of the world."

²⁶ I am in distress for you, my brother Jonathan, Very pleasant wast you to me; Wonderful was your love to me, Above the love of women!"

³³ and the king laments for Abner, and said:--`As the death of a fool does Abner die? <sup>34</sup> Your hands not bound, And your feet to fetters not brought nigh! As one falling before sons of evil--You have fallen!' and all the people add to weep over him. <sup>35</sup> And all the people come to cause David to eat bread while yet day, and David swears, saying, `Thus does Elohim to me, and thus He does add, for--before the going in of the sun, I taste no bread or any other thing.. ³⁶ And all the people have discerned [it], and it is good in their eyes, as all that the king has done is good in the eyes of all the people;" ³⁷ and all the people know, even all Israel, in that day, that it has not been from the king--to put to death Abner son of Ner. ³⁸ And the king said unto his servants, `Do you not know that a prince and a great one has fallen this day in Israel?

³⁰ and he places his carcase in his own grave, and they mourn for him, `Oh, my brother!.

¹⁹ and it comes to pass, from days to days, and at the time of the going out of the end of two years, his bowels have gone out with his sickness, and he dies of sore diseases, and his people have not made for him a burning like the burning of his fathers. ²⁰ A son of thirty and two [years] was he in his reigning, and eight years he has reigned in Jerusalem, and he goes without desire, and they bury him in the city of David, and not in the graves of the kings.

²⁵ and Jeremiah laments for Josiah, and all the singers and the songstresses speak in their lamentations of Josiah unto this day, and set them for a statute on Israel, and lo, they are written beside the lamentations.

⁴ Of painful deaths they die, They are not lamented, nor are they buried, For dung on the face of the ground they are, And by sword and by famine are consumed, And their carcase has been for food To the fowl of the heavens, And to the beast of the earth."

⁶ And died have great and small in this land, They are not buried, and none lament for them, Nor does any cut himself, nor become bald for them."

¹⁰ You do not weep for the dead, nor bemoan for him, Weep you sore for the traveller, For he does not return again, Nor has he seen the land of his birth."

⁵ in peace you die, and with the burnings of your fathers, the former kings who have been before you, so they make a burning for you; and Ah, lord, they lament for you, for the word I have spoken--an affirmation of Yahweh.'"

¹⁰ `Therefore, lo, I am bringing in evil unto the house of Jeroboam, and have cut off to Jeroboam those sitting on the wall--shut up and left--in Israel, and have put away the posterity of the house of Jeroboam, as one puts away the dung till its consumption;"

²³ `And also of Jezebel has Yahweh spoken, saying, The dogs do eat Jezebel in the bulwark of Jezreel;" ²⁴ him who dies of Ahab in a city do the dogs eat, and him who dies in a field do fowl of the heavens eat;"

³⁵ And they go to bury her, and have not found of her except the skull, and the feet, and the palms of the hands.

⁶ against him has Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon come up, and binds him in brazen fetters to take him away to Babylon.

³ And I have appointed over them four kinds, an affirmation of Yahweh, The sword to slay, and the dogs to drag, And the fowl of the heavens, And the beast of the earth, to consume and to devour."

⁶ but you have entered--and you have read in the roll that you have written from my mouth, the words of Yahweh, in the ears of the people, in the house of Yahweh, in the day of the fast, and also in the ears of all Judah who are coming in from their cities you do read them;"

¹² Yahweh said to Moses:Go up to this mount of the Abarim range and see the land which I give to the sons of Israel.

⁴⁹ Go up to this mount of the Abarim range (Mount Nebo which is in the country of Moab that is overlooking Jericho), and see the land of Canaan that I am giving to the sons of Israel for a holding;"

⁷ And the king of Egypt has not added any more to go out from his own land, for the king of Babylon has taken, from the brook of Egypt unto the river Phrat, all that had been to the king of Egypt.

⁵ And they are dismayed and ashamed because of Ethiopia, their trust, and because of Egypt, their beauty." ⁶ And the dwellers of this coastland say in that day, `Behold! Thus is our trust, where we fled for help, to be rescued from the face of the king of Assyria, and how shall we escape?'"

¹ Woe, stubborn sons!averring is Yahweh, "To make counsel, yet not from Me, and to libate a libation, yet not of My spirit, that they may add sin on sin!" ² Going down to Egypt, yet they do not ask at My mouth, to be strong in the stronghold of Pharaoh, and to take refuge in the shadow of Egypt!" ³ Yet become, for you, shall the stronghold of Pharaoh for shame, and the refuge in the shadow of Egypt for confounding." ⁴ For his chiefs come to be in Zoan, and his messengers are attaining Hanes." ⁵ All are ashamed of a people who are not benefiting them, not for help, and not for benefit, for they are for shame, and even for reproach." ⁶ The load of the beasts of the south rim; in a land of distress and aridity and constraint, the parent lion and the long maned lion are there, yet no water. The puff adder and the burning serpent are making flight. They are bearing on the shoulders of donkeys their estate, and on the humps of camels their treasures, to a people who are not benefiting them for help, but for shame and for reproach." ⁷ And Egypt in vain and for naught is helping you. Wherefore I call as to this, "Their audacity shall cease!"

¹ Woe to those going down to Egypt for help! On horses are they leaning, and trusting in chariots, for they are many, and on horsemen, for they are very staunch. And they do not heed the Holy One of Israel, and of Yahweh Elohim they do not inquire." ² Yet, moreover, He is wise, and will bring evil, and His words He does not take away, and He rises against the house of the evil doers, and against the help of the contrivers of lawlessness." ³ Yet Egyptians are human and not the El, and their horses are flesh, and not spirit. When Yahweh is stretching out His hand, then the helper falters; and he who is helped falls. And, together, all of them will be finished."

³⁶ What? you are very vile to repeat your way, Even of Egypt you are ashamed, As you have been ashamed of Asshur,

³⁰ And you, O spoiled one, what do you? For you put on scarlet, For you adorn yourself [with] ornaments of gold. For you rend with pain your eyes, In vain you do make yourself fair, Kicked against you have doting ones, Your life they do seek."

²² All your friends consume does wind, And your lovers into captivity do go, Surely then you are ashamed, And have blushed for all your wickedness."

⁹ Lo, I am sending, and have taken all the families of the north--an affirmation of Yahweh--even unto Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, My servant, and have brought them in against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations round about, and have devoted them, and appointed them for an astonishment, and for a hissing, and for wastes eonian."

¹⁷ `And I take the cup out of the hand of Yahweh, and cause all the nations to drink unto whom Yahweh sent me:" ¹⁸ Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, And its kings, its heads, To give them to waste, to astonishment, To hissing, and to reviling, as [at] this day." ¹⁹ Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, And his heads, and all his people, ²⁰ And all the mixed people, And all the kings of the land of Uz, And all the kings of the land of the Philistines, And Ashkelon, and Gazzah, and Ekron, And the remnant of Ashdod, ²¹ Edom, and Moab, and the sons of Ammon, ²² And all the kings of Tyre, And all the kings of Zidon, And the kings of the isle that [is] beyond the sea, ²³ Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, And all cutting the corners [of the beard], ²⁴ And all the kings of Arabia, And all the kings of the mixed people, Who are dwelling in the wilderness, ²⁵ And all the kings of Zimri, And all the kings of Elam, And all the kings of Media, ²⁶ And all the kings of the north, The near and the far off, one unto another, And all the kingdoms of the earth, That [are] on the face of the ground, And king Sheshach drinks after them." ²⁷ And you have said unto them:Thus said Yahweh of Hosts Elohim of Israel, Drink you, yea drink abundantly, And vomit, and fall, and rise not, Because of the sword that I am sending among you."

¹³ There is none judging your cause to bind up, Healing medicines there are none for you." ¹⁴ all loving you have forgotten you, You they do not seek, For with the stroke of an enemy I smote you, The chastisement of a fierce one, Because of the abundance of your iniquity, Mighty have been your sins!" ¹⁵ What! --you cry concerning your breach! Incurable [is] your pain, Because of the abundance of your iniquity, Mighty have been your sins! I have done these to you."

² She is lamenting, yea lamenting in the night, her tears on her cheeks; There is no one to comfort her of all her lovers; All her associates have dealt treacherously with her; they have become her enemies."

¹⁹ I called to my lovers; they deceived me; My priests and my elders deceased in the city While they sought food for themselves that they might restore their soul.

⁹ Therefore I have given her into the hand of her lovers, Into the hand of sons of Asshur on whom she doted."

²² Therefore, O Aholibah, thus said the Lord Yahweh:Lo, I am stirring up your lovers against you, From whom your soul has been alienated, And have brought them in against you from round about."

⁷ Remember, do not forget that you provoked Yahweh your Elohim to wrath in the wilderness. From the day in which you went forth from the country of Egypt until you came to this place, you were rebellious against Yahweh.

²⁴ You have been rebellious against Yahweh from the day I knew you.

²⁷ for I know your rebellion and your scruff of obstinacy. Behold in my day, while I am still with you alive, you have been rebellious against Yahweh, indeed, how much more so after my death!"

¹⁵ When Yeshurun grew stout and kicked (you will be stout, thick and burly), then he abandoned Eloah Who had made him and disgraced the Rock of his salvation. ¹⁶ They made Him jealous with alien gods, with abhorrences they provoked Him to vexation. ¹⁷ They sacrificed to demons, not Eloah, to elohim--they had not known them before--to new ones that came from nearby; your fathers were not horrified by them. ¹⁸ The Rock Who generated you, you were oblivious of Him, and you forgot the El travailing with you. ¹⁹ Yahweh saw and spurned them because of the vexation caused by His sons and His daughters. ²⁰ And he said:Let Me conceal My face from them; I shall examine what their latter days are to be. For they are a wayward generation, sons with no faithfulness in them.

¹¹ And the sons of Israel do the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh, and serve the Baalim, ¹² and forsake Yahweh, Elohim of their fathers, who brings them out from the land of Egypt, and go after other elohims (of the elohims of the peoples who [are] round about them), and bow themselves to them, and provoke Yahweh, ¹³ yea, they forsake Yahweh, and do service to Baal and to Ashtaroth. ¹⁴ And the anger of Yahweh burns against Israel, and He gives them into the hand of spoilers, and they spoil them, and He sells them into the hand of their enemies round about, and they have not been able any more to stand before their enemies;" ¹⁵ in every [place] where they have gone out, the hand of Yahweh has been against them for evil, as Yahweh has spoken, and as Yahweh has sworn to them, and they are distressed--greatly. ¹⁶ And Yahweh raises up judges, and they save them from the hand of their spoilers;" ¹⁷ and also unto their judges they have not hearkened, but have gone a-whoring after other elohims, and bow themselves to them; they have turned aside [with] haste out of the way [in] which their fathers walked to obey the commands of Yahweh--they have not done so. ¹⁸ And when Yahweh raised up to them judges--then was Yahweh with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for it repents Yahweh, because of their groaning from the presence of their oppressors, and of those thrusting them away. ¹⁹ And it has come to pass, at the death of the judge--they turn back and have done corruptly above their fathers, to go after other elohims, to serve them, and to bow themselves to them; they have not fallen from their doings, and from their stiff way.

¹⁶ and they are mocking at the messengers of Elohim, and despising His words, and acting deceitfully with His prophets, till the going up of the fury of Yahweh against His people--till there is no healing. ¹⁷ And He causes to go up against them the king of the Chaldeans, and he slays their chosen ones by the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and has had no pity on young man and virgin, old man and very aged--the whole He has given into his hand.

¹⁶ `And they and our fathers have acted proudly, and harden their neck, and have not hearkened unto Your commands, <sup>17</sup> yea, they refuse to hearken, and have not remembered Your wonders that You have done with them, and harden their neck and appoint a head, to turn back to their service, in their rebellion; and You [are] a Eloah of pardons, gracious, and merciful, long-suffering, and abundant in kindness, and have not forsaken them. <sup>18</sup> `Also, when they have made to themselves a molten calf, and say, this [is] your elohim that brought you up out of Egypt, and do great despisings, ¹⁹ and You, in Your abundant mercies, have not forsaken them in the wilderness--the pillar of the cloud has not turned aside from off them by day, to lead them in the way, and the pillar of the fire by night, to give light to them and the way in which they go. ²⁰ `And Your good Spirit You have given, to cause them to act wisely; and Your manna You have not withheld from their mouth, and water You have given to them for their thirst, <sup>21</sup> and forty years You have nourished them in a wilderness; they have not lacked; their garments have not worn out, and their feet have not swelled. <sup>22</sup> `And You give to them kingdoms, and peoples, and do apportion them to the corner, and they possess the land of Sihon, and the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan. ²³ And their sons You have multiplied as the stars of the heavens, and bring them in unto the land that You have said to their fathers to go in to possess. ²⁴ `And the sons come in, and possess the land, and You humble before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and give them into their hand, and their kings, and the peoples of the land, to do with them according to their pleasure. <sup>25</sup> And they capture fenced cities, and fat ground, and possess houses full of all good, digged-wells, vineyards, and olive-yards, and fruit-trees in abundance, and they eat, and are satisfied, and become fat, and delight themselves in Your great goodness. <sup>26</sup> `And they are disobedient, and rebel against You, and cast Your law behind their back, and Your prophets they have slain, who testified against them, to bring them back unto You, and they do great despisings, ²⁷ and You give them into the hand of their adversaries, and they distress them, and in the time of their distress they cry unto You, and You, from the heavens, do hear, and, according to Your abundant mercies, do give to them saviours, and they save them out of the hand of their adversaries. ²⁸ `And when they have rest, they turn back to do evil before You, and You do leave them in the hand of their enemies, and they rule over them; and they turn back, and call You, and You from the heavens do hear, and do deliver them, according to Your mercies, many times, <sup>29</sup> and do testify against them, to bring them back unto Your law; and they--they have acted proudly, and have not hearkened to Your commands, and against Your judgments have sinned, --which man does and has lived in them--and they give a refractory shoulder, and their neck have hardened, and have not hearkened. <sup>30</sup> `And You draw over them many years, and testify against them by Your Spirit, by the hand of Your prophets, and they have not given ear, and You do give them into the hand of peoples of the lands, ³¹ and in Your abundant mercies You have not made them a consumption, nor have forsaken them; for a El, gracious and merciful, [are] You. ³² `And now, O our Elohim--El, the great, the mighty, and the fearful, keeping the covenant and the kindness--let not all the travail that has found us be little before You, for our kings, for our heads, and for our priests, and for our prophets, and for our fathers, and for all Your people, from the days of the kings of Asshur unto this day;" <sup>33</sup> and You [are] righteous concerning all that has come upon us, for truth You have done, and we have done wickedly;" <sup>34</sup> and our kings, our heads, our priests, and our fathers, have not done Your law, nor attended unto Your commands, and to Your testimonies, that You have testified against them;" <sup>35</sup> and they, in their kingdom, and in Your abundant goodness, that You have given to them, and in the land, the large and the fat, that You have set before them, have not served You, nor turned back from their evil doings. <sup>36</sup> `Lo, we--to-day--[are] servants, and the land that You have given to our fathers, to eat its fruit and its good--lo, we [are] servants on it, ³⁷ and its increase it is multiplying to the kings whom You have set over us in our sins; and over our bodies they are ruling, and over our cattle, according to their pleasure, and we [are] in great distress.

⁶ We have sinned with our fathers; We have sown depravity; We have acted wickedly. ⁷ Our fathers in Egypt did not contemplate Your marvelous works; They did not remember Your many benignities, And they defied the Supreme by the Sea of Weeds." ⁸ Yet He saved them on account of His Name, To make known His masterful deeds." ⁹ He rebuked the Sea of Weeds, and it became drained, And He enabled them to walk through the abyss as through a wilderness." ¹⁰ So He saved them from the hand of the one hating them, And He redeemed them from the hand of their enemy." ¹¹ The waters covered their foes; Not one of them was left. ¹² Then they believed His words; They sang His praise. ¹³ But they quickly forgot His deeds; They did not tarry for His counsel. ¹⁴ They lusted with yearning in the wilderness, And they tried El in the desolation." ¹⁵ So He gave them their request, And He sent sustenance for their soul." ¹⁶ They grew jealous of Moses in the camp, And of Aaron, the holy one of Yahweh." ¹⁷ The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan, And it covered over the congregation of Abiram." ¹⁸ Fire consumed in their congregation; A blaze set the wicked aflame. ¹⁹ They made a calf at Horeb, And they bowed down to a molten image." ²⁰ They changed His glory Into the model of a bull calf that feeds on herbage. ²¹ They forgot the El Who was saving them, Who was doing great deeds in Egypt, ²² Marvelous works in the country of Ham, Fear inspiring deeds by the Sea of Weeds." ²³ He said that He would exterminate them, Except that Moses, His chosen one, Stood in the breach before Him, To turn back His fury from bringing ruin on them." ²⁴ Then they rejected the coveted land; They did not believe His word, ²⁵ And they murmured in their tents; They did not hearken to the voice of Yahweh. ²⁶ So He lifted His hand in swearing to them To cast them down in the wilderness, ²⁷ And to scatter their seed among the nations, And to toss them away throughout the countries." ²⁸ Yet they paired themselves with Baal-peor, And they ate sacrifices offered to dead idols." ²⁹ They provoked Him to vexation with their actions, So that a stroke breached forth among them." ³⁰ But Phinehas stood up and mediated, And the stroke was restrained." ³¹ This was reckoned to him for righteousness For generation after generation for the eon. ³² They prompted wrath at the waters of Meribah, And it was evil for Moses for their sake" ³³ Because they provoked his spirit, And he talked rashly with his lips." ³⁴ They did not exterminate the peoples As Yahweh had commanded them. ³⁵ They mixed with the nations, And they learned their customs." ³⁶ They served their fetishes, And these came to be a trap for them." ³⁷ They sacrificed their sons And their daughters to demons; ³⁸ So they shed innocent blood, The blood of their sons and their daughters, Whom they sacrificed to the fetishes of Canaan, And the land was polluted with bloodshed." ³⁹ Thus they defiled themselves by their deeds, And they prostituted themselves by their actions." ⁴⁰ So the anger of Yahweh grew hot against His people, And He abhorred His allotment." ⁴¹ He gave them into the hand of the nations So that those hating them ruled among them. ⁴² Their enemies oppressed them, And they were made to submit under their hand." ⁴³ Many times He rescued them, But they were rebellious in their counsel, And they were reduced lower in their depravity." ⁴⁴ Yet He saw their distress, On His hearing of their appeal, ⁴⁵ And, for them, He remembered His covenant, So that He was merciful according to His many benignities." ⁴⁶ He gave them over to compassions Before all those holding them captive. ⁴⁷ Save us, O Yahweh our Elohim, And convene us from the nations, To acclaim Your holy Name, To triumph in Your praise." ⁴⁸ Blessed be Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, From the eon and until the eon. Then all the people will say, Amen. Praise Yah."

⁹ Lest I should be surfeited So that I disavow You and say, Who is Yahweh? Or lest I be destitute and steal, So that I denigrate the name of my El."

⁸ And moreover, you did not hear! Moreover, you did not know! Moreover, hitherto, I did not open your ear. For I know that you are treacherous, and a transgressor, from the belly, are you called."

³¹ O generation, see you the word of Yahweh:A wilderness have I been to Israel? A land of thick darkness? Wherefore have My people said, `We mourned, We come not in again unto You.'"

²⁵ We have lain down in our shame, and cover us does our confusion, For against Yahweh our Elohim we have sinned, We, and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day, Nor have we hearkened to the voice of Yahweh our Elohim!"

¹⁶ Thus said Yahweh:Stand you by the ways and see, and ask for paths of old, Where [is] this--the good way? and go you in it, And find rest for yourselves. And they say, `We do not go.'"

²² For I did not speak with your fathers, Nor did I command them in the day of My bringing them out of the land of Egypt, Concerning the matters of burnt-offering and sacrifice, ²³ But this thing I commanded them, saying:Hearken to My voice, And I have been to you for Elohim, And you--you are to Me for a people, And have walked in all the way that I command you, So that it is well for you." ²⁴ And they have not hearkened, nor inclined their ear, And they walk in the counsels, In the stubbornness, of their evil heart, And are for backward, and not for forward." ²⁵ Even from the day when your fathers Went out of the land of Egypt till this day, I send to you all my servants the prophets, Daily rising early and sending, ²⁶ And they have not hearkened unto Me, Nor inclined their ear, and harden their neck, They have done evil above their fathers." ²⁷ And you have spoken unto them all these words, And they do not hearken to you, And you have called unto them, And they do not answer you." ²⁸ And you have said unto them:This [is] the nation that has not hearkened, To the voice of Yahweh its Elohim, Nor have they accepted instruction, Perished has stedfastness, Yea, it has been cut off from their mouth."

³⁰ For the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah have been only doing evil in Mine eyes, from their youth; for the sons of Israel are only provoking Me with the work of their hands--an affirmation of Yahweh."

¹⁵ And I send unto you all My servants the prophets, rising early and sending, saying:Turn back, I pray you, each from his evil way, and amend your doings, yea, you do not walk after other elohims, to serve them, and dwell you on the ground that I have given to you and to your fathers; and you have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto Me."

²¹ And the king sends Jehudi to take the roll, and he takes it out of the chamber of Elishama the scribe, and Jehudi reads it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the heads who are standing by the king;" ²² and the king is sitting in the winter-house, in the ninth month, and the stove before him is burning, ²³ and it comes to pass, when Jehudi reads three or four leaves, he cuts it out with the scribe's knife, and has cast unto the fire, that [is] on the stove, till the consumption of all the roll by the fire that [is] on the stove." ²⁴ And the king and all his servants who are hearing all these words have not been afraid, nor rent their garments." ²⁵ And also Elnathan, and Delaiah, and Gemariah have interceded with the king not to burn the roll, and he has not hearkened unto them." ²⁶ And the king commands Jerahmeel son of Hammelek, and Seraiah son of Azriel, and Shelemiah son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe, and Jeremiah the prophet, and Yahweh does hide them."

⁸ And--they rebel against Me, And have not been willing to hearken to Me, Each, the detestable things of their eyes, They have not cast away, And the idols of Egypt have not forsaken, And I say--to pour out My fury on them, To complete Mine anger against them, In the midst of the land of Egypt."

¹³ And--rebel against me do the house of Israel in the wilderness, In My statutes they have not walked, And My judgments they have despised, Which the man who does--lives by them. And My sabbaths they have greatly polluted, And I say to pour out My fury on them in the wilderness, to consume them."

²¹ And--the sons rebel against Me, In My statutes they have not walked, And My judgments they have not observed--to do them, Which the man who does--lives by them. My sabbaths they have polluted, And I say to pour out My fury upon them, To complete Mine anger against them in the wilderness."

²⁸ And I bring them in unto the land, That I did lift up My hand to give to them, And they see every high hill, and every thick tree, And they sacrifice there their sacrifices, And give there the provocation of their offering, And make there their sweet fragrance, And they pour out there their libations."

³ And they go a-whoring in Egypt, In their youth they have gone a-whoring, There they have bruised their breasts, And there they have dealt with the loves of their virginity." ⁴ And their names [are] Aholah the elder, And Aholibah her sister, And they are Mine, and bear sons and daughters. As to their names--Samaria [is] Aholah, And Jerusalem [is] Aholibah." ⁵ And go a-whoring does Aholah under Me, And she dotes on her lovers, On the neighboring Assyrians, ⁶ Clothed with blue--governors and prefects, Desirable young men all of them, Horsemen, riding on horses, ⁷ And she gives her whoredoms on them, The choice of the sons of Asshur, All of them--even all on whom she doted, By all their idols she has been defiled." ⁸ And her whoredoms out of Egypt she has not forsaken, For with her they lay in her youth, And they dealt with the loves of her virginity, And they pour out their whoredoms on her." ⁹ Therefore I have given her into the hand of her lovers, Into the hand of sons of Asshur on whom she doted." ¹⁰ They have uncovered her nakedness, Her sons and her daughters they have taken, And her by sword they have slain, And she is a name for women, And judgments they have done with her." ¹¹ And see does her sister Aholibah, And she makes her doting love more corrupt than she, And her whoredoms than the whoredoms of her sister." ¹² On sons of Asshur she has doted, Governors and prefects, Neighboring ones--clothed in perfection, Horsemen, riding on horses, Desirable young men all of them." ¹³ And I see that she has been defiled, One way [is] to them both." ¹⁴ And she does add unto her whoredoms, And she sees graved men on the wall, Pictures of Chaldeans, graved with red lead, ¹⁵ Girded with a girdle on their loins, Dyed attire spread out on their heads, The appearance of rulers--all of them, The likeness of sons of Babylon, Chaldea is the land of their birth." ¹⁶ And she dotes on them at the sight of her eyes, And sends messengers to them, to Chaldea." ¹⁷ And come in unto her do sons of Babylon, To the bed of loves, And they defile her with their whoredoms, And she is defiled with them, And her soul is alienated from them." ¹⁸ And she reveals her whoredoms, And she reveals her nakedness, And alienated is My soul from off her, As alienated was My soul from off her sister." ¹⁹ And she multiplies her whoredoms, To remember the days of her youth, When she went a-whoring in the land of Egypt." ²⁰ And she dotes on their paramours, Whose flesh [is] the flesh of asses, And the issue of horses--their issue." ²¹ You look after the wickedness of your youth, In dealing out of Egypt your loves, For the sake of the breasts of your youth." ²² Therefore, O Aholibah, thus said the Lord Yahweh:Lo, I am stirring up your lovers against you, From whom your soul has been alienated, And have brought them in against you from round about." ²³ Sons of Babylon, and of all Chaldea, Pekod, and Shoa, and Koa, All the sons of Asshur with them, Desirable young men, governors and prefects, All of them--rulers and proclaimed ones, Riding on horses, all of them." ²⁴ And they have come in against you, With arms, rider, and wheel, And with an assembly of peoples; Target, and shield, and helmet, They do set against you round about, And I have set before them judgment, They have judged you in their Judgments." ²⁵ And I have set My jealousy against you, And they have dealt with you in fury, Your nose and your ears they turn aside, And your posterity by sword falls, They, your sons and your daughters do take away, And your posterity is devoured by fire." ²⁶ And they have stripped you of your garments, And have taken your beauteous jewels." ²⁷ And I have caused your wickedness to cease from you, And your whoredoms out of the land of Egypt, And you lift not up your eyes unto them, And Egypt you do not remember again." ²⁸ For thus said the Lord Yahweh:Lo, I am giving you into a hand that you have hated, Into a hand from which you wast alienated." ²⁹ And they have dealt with you in hatred, And they have taken all your labor, And they have left you naked and bare, And revealed has been the nakedness of your whoredoms, And the wickedness of your whoredoms." ³⁰ To do these things to you, In your going a-whoring after nations, Because you have been defiled with their idols, ³¹ In the way of your sister you have walked, And I have given her cup into your hand." ³² Thus said the Lord Yahweh:The cup of your sister you do drink, The deep and the wide one, (You are for laughter and for scorn,) Abundant to contain." ³³ With drunkenness and sorrow you are filled, A cup of astonishment and desolation, The cup of your sister Samaria." ³⁴ And you have drunk it, and have drained [it], And its earthen ware you do gnaw, And your own breasts you pluck off, For I have spoken, An affirmation of the Lord Yahweh, ³⁵ Therefore, thus said the Lord Yahweh:Because you have forgotten Me, And you do cast Me behind your back, Even you also bear your wickedness and your whoredoms.'" ³⁶ And Yahweh said unto me, `Son of man, Do you judge Aholah and Aholibah? Declare then to them their abominations." ³⁷ For they have committed adultery, And blood [is] in their hands, With their idols they committed adultery, And also their sons whom they bore to Me, They caused to pass over to them for food." ³⁸ Again, this they have done to Me, They defiled My sanctuary in that day, And My sabbaths they have polluted." ³⁹ And in their slaughtering their sons to their idols They also come in unto My sanctuary in that day to pollute it, And lo, thus they have done in the midst of My house,

⁶ And we are becoming as unclean, all of us, and as an ornamented garment is all our righteousness. And we are decaying as a leaf, all of us, and our depravities, as the wind, are carrying us away."

⁸ The priests have not said, `Where [is] Yahweh?' And those handling the law have not known Me. And the shepherds transgressed against Me, And the prophets have prophesied by Baal, And after those who profit not have gone."

²⁶ As the shame of a thief when he is found, So put to shame have been the house of Israel, They, their kings, their heads, And their priests, and their prophets, ²⁷ Saying to wood, `My father [are] you!' And to a stone, `You have brought me forth,' For they turned unto me the back and not the face, And in the time of their vexation, They say, `Arise You, and save us.'"

³⁷ Also from this you go out, And your hands on your head, For Yahweh has kicked at your confidences, And you do not give prosperity to them!"

¹¹ At that time it is said of this people, And of Jerusalem:`A dry wind of high places in the wilderness,' The way of the daughter of My people, (Not for winnowing, nor for cleansing,)" ¹² A full wind from these does come for Me, Now, also, I speak judgments with them." ¹³ Lo, as clouds he comes up, And as a hurricane his chariots, Lighter than eagles have been his horses, Woe to us, for we have been spoiled."

³⁰ An astonishing and horrible thing has been in the land. ³¹ The prophets have prophesied falsely, And the priests bear rule by their means, And My people have loved [it] so, And what do they at its latter end?

²¹ For the shepherds have become brutish, And Yahweh they have not sought, Therefore they have not acted wisely, And all their flock is scattered."

¹⁰ Many shepherds did destroy My vineyard, They have trodden down My portion, They have made My desirable portion Become a wilderness--a desolation."

¹¹ And Yahweh [is] with me, as a terrible mighty one, Therefore my persecutors stumble and prevail not, They have been exceedingly ashamed, For they have not acted wisely, Confusion eonian is not forgotten."

¹ Woe to shepherds destroying, And scattering the flock of My pasture, An affirmation of Yahweh." ² Therefore, thus said Yahweh, Elohim of Israel, Against the shepherds who feed My people, You have scattered My flock, and drive them away, And have not inspected them, Lo, I am charging on you the evil of your doings, An affirmation of Yahweh."

²³ Lo, a whirlwind of Yahweh--Fury has gone forth--a cutting whirlwind, On the head of the wicked it stays." ²⁴ The fierceness of the anger of Yahweh Does not turn back till His doing, Yea, till His establishing the devices of His heart, In the latter end of the days we consider it!"

² `Son of man, prophesy concerning shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and you have said unto them:To the shepherds, thus said the Lord Yahweh:Woe [to] the shepherds of Israel, Who have been feeding themselves! The flock do not the shepherds feed? ³ The fat you do eat, and the wool you put on, The fed one you slaughter, the flock you feed not." ⁴ The weak you have not strengthened, And the sick one you have not healed, And the broken you have not bound up, And the driven away have not brought back, And the lost you have not sought, And with might you have ruled them and with rigor." ⁵ And they are scattered from want of a shepherd, And are for food to every beast of the field, Yea, they are scattered." ⁶ Go astray do My flock on all the mountains, And on every high hill, And on all the face of the land have My flock been scattered, And there is none inquiring, and none seeking." ⁷ Therefore, shepherds, hear a word of Yahweh:" ⁸ I live--an affirmation of the Lord Yahweh, If not, because of My flock being for a prey, Yea, My flock is for food to every beast of the field, Because there is no shepherd, And My shepherds have not sought My flock, And the shepherds do feed themselves, And My flock they have not fed." ⁹ Therefore, O shepherds, hear a word of Yahweh:" ¹⁰ Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Lo, I [am] against the shepherds, And have required My flock from their hand, And caused them to cease from feeding the flock, And no more do the shepherds feed themselves, And I have delivered My flock from their mouth, And they are not to them for food."

¹⁹ The wind distresses her in its wings, and they shall be ashamed of their altars."

¹⁵ Seeing that he is parting between his brothers, an east wind shall come. The wind of Yahweh shall come up from the wilderness, and it will dry up his fountain, and it will drain his spring. He shall rob the treasure of every coveted furnishing."

⁸ And I am suppressing three shepherds in one month. Yet my soul is impatient with them; and, moreover, their soul is nauseated with me."

¹⁷ Woe! forbidden idol's shepherd! forsaker of the flock! A sword is on his arm and on his right eye! His arm shall be dried dry, and his right eye shall be dimmed dim."

⁵¹ Stiff-necked and uncircumcised in your hearts and ears, you are ever clashing with the holy spirit! As your fathers, you also!" ⁵² Which of the prophets do not your fathers persecute? And they kill those who announce before concerning the coming of the Just One, of Whom now you became the traitors and murderers -"

²¹ When he saw the Kenite, he took up his discourse and said:Perennial is your dwelling, and set high in a crag is your nest.

²¹ A voice on high places is heard--weeping, Supplications of the sons of Israel, For they have made perverse their way, They have forgotten Yahweh their Elohim."

³⁰ And you, O spoiled one, what do you? For you put on scarlet, For you adorn yourself [with] ornaments of gold. For you rend with pain your eyes, In vain you do make yourself fair, Kicked against you have doting ones, Your life they do seek." ³¹ For a voice as of a sick woman I have heard, Distress, as of one bringing forth a first-born, The voice of the daughter of Zion, She bewails herself, she spreads out her hands, `Woe to me now, for weary is my soul of slayers!'"

²⁴ `We have heard its sound, feeble have been our hands, Distress has seized us, pain as of a travailing woman."

¹³ Lo, I [am] against you--an affirmation of Yahweh, O inhabitant of the valley, rock of the plain, Who are saying, Who comes down against us? And who comes into our habitations?

⁶ For thus said Yahweh, Concerning the house of the king of Judah:Gilead [are] you to Me--head of Lebanon, If not--I make you a wilderness, Cities not inhabited."

⁵ Surely thus said Yahweh:A voice of trembling we have heard, Fear--and there is no peace." ⁶ Ask, I pray you, and see, is a male bringing forth? Wherefore have I seen every man, His hands on his loins, as a travailing woman, And all faces have been turned to paleness?

²⁸ Forsake cities, and dwell in a rock, You inhabitants of Moab, And be as a dove making a nest in the passages of a pit's mouth."

¹⁶ Your terribleness has lifted you up, The pride of your heart, O dweller in clefts of the rock, Holding the high place of the height, For you make high as an eagle your nest, From thence I bring you down, An affirmation of Yahweh."

⁴ In those days, and at that time, An affirmation of Yahweh, Come in do sons of Israel, They and sons of Judah together, Going on and weeping they go, And Yahweh their Elohim they seek." ⁵ [To] Zion they ask the way, Thitherward [are] their faces:Come in, and we are joined unto Yahweh, A covenant eonian--not forgotten."

¹⁵ For I will go and return to My place till they are pleading guilty, and they seek My face. In their distress they will seek Me early, saying:"

¹⁴ And they do not cry out to Me with their heart, for they are howling on their beds; over grain and grape juice they are stirring themselves up; they are withdrawing from Me."

² If they are burrowing into the unseen, thence My hand will take them. And if they are ascending to the heavens, thence will I bring them down."

⁴ If you are elevated as the vulture, and if your nest is placed between the stars, thence will I bring you down (averring is Yahweh)."

⁹ Woe to him gaining an evil gain for his house in order to place his nest in the height, to be rescued from the clutch of evil!"

¹ Open your doors, O Lebanon, and the fire shall devour among your cedars." ² Howl, fir tree, for the cedar falls, when the noble ones are devastated. Howl, oaks of Bashan, for the defended wildwood comes down."

⁶ And Jehoiakim lies with his fathers, and Jehoiachin his son reigns in his stead. ⁷ And the king of Egypt has not added any more to go out from his own land, for the king of Babylon has taken, from the brook of Egypt unto the river Phrat, all that had been to the king of Egypt. ⁸ A son of eighteen years [is] Jehoiachin in his reigning, and three months he has reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother [is] Nehushta, daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem,

¹⁶ And sons of Jehoiakim:Jeconiah his son, Zedekiah his son.

⁶ Place me like a seal upon your heart, Like a seal upon your arm, For love is strong as death, Its jealousy hard as the unseen, Its burning coals as burning coals of fire, The blaze of Yah."

²⁸ A grief--a despised broken thing--is this man Coniah? A vessel in which there is no pleasure? Wherefore have they been cast up and down, He and his seed, Yea, they were cast on to a land that they knew not?

¹ And reign does king Zedekiah son of Josiah instead of Coniah son of Jehoiakim whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had caused to reign in the land of Judah,

²³ In that day, (averring is Yahweh of hosts), I will take you, Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, My servant, (averring is Yahweh), and will place you as a seal, for I have chosen you, (averring is Yahweh of hosts)."

¹¹ now Josiah begets Jeconiah and his brothers at the Babylonian exile. ¹² Now after the Babylonian exile Jeconiah begets Shalthiel; now Shalthiel begets Zerubbabel;

¹⁵ And he removes Jehoiachin to Babylon, and the mother of the king, and the wives of the king, and his eunuchs, and the mighty ones of the land--he has caused a removal to go from Jerusalem to Babylon, ¹⁶ and all the men of valor seven thousand, and the artificers and the smiths a thousand, the whole [are] mighty men, warriors; and the king of Babylon brings them in a captivity to Babylon.

²⁴ What the wicked one shrinks from, it shall come to him, And what the righteous yearn for shall be given."

⁷ And after this--an affirmation of Yahweh, I give Zedekiah king of Judah, And his servants, and the people, And those left in this city, From the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, Into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, And into the hand of their enemies, And into the hand of those seeking their life, And he has smitten them by the mouth of the sword, He has no pity on them, Nor does he spare, nor has he mercy."

²⁰ yea, I have given them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those seeking their soul, and their carcase has been for food to the fowl of the heavens, and to the beast of the earth." ²¹ `And Zedekiah king of Judah, and his heads, I give into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those seeking their soul, and into the hand of the forces of the king of Babylon, that are going up from off you."

¹⁶ And the king Zedekiah swears unto Jeremiah in secret, saying, `Yahweh lives, He who made for us this soul, I do not put you to death, nor give you unto the hand of these men who are seeking your soul.'"

⁸ A son of eighteen years [is] Jehoiachin in his reigning, and three months he has reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother [is] Nehushta, daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem,

¹⁵ And he removes Jehoiachin to Babylon, and the mother of the king, and the wives of the king, and his eunuchs, and the mighty ones of the land--he has caused a removal to go from Jerusalem to Babylon,

⁹ A son of eight years is Jehoiachin in his reigning, and three months and ten days he has reigned in Jerusalem, and he does the evil thing in the eyes of Yahweh;" ¹⁰ and at the turn of the year has king Nebuchadnezzar sent and brings him in to Babylon, with the desirable vessels of the house of Yahweh, and causes Zedekiah his brother to reign over Judah and Jerusalem.

¹⁷ Behold! Yahweh of hosts will hurl you with a masterly hurling, and He will take away your tunic and your glorious sash, and muffle you securely."

² And it has come to pass, when they say to you, Whither do we go out? that you have said unto them, Thus said Yahweh:Those who [are] for death--to death, And those who are for the sword, to the sword, And those who are for famine, to famine, And those who are for captivity, to captivity." ³ And I have appointed over them four kinds, an affirmation of Yahweh, The sword to slay, and the dogs to drag, And the fowl of the heavens, And the beast of the earth, to consume and to devour." ⁴ And I have given them for a trembling To all kingdoms of the earth, Because of Manasseh son of Hezekiah king of Judah, For that which he did in Jerusalem."

⁹ And they put it in prison--in chains, And they bring it unto the king of Babylon, They bring it in unto bulwarks, So that its voice is not heard any more On mountains of Israel." ¹⁰ Your mother [is] as a vine in your blood by waters planted, Fruitful and full of boughs it has been, Because of many waters." ¹¹ And it has strong rods for sceptres of rulers, And high is its stature above thick branches, And it appears in its height In the multitude of its thin shoots." ¹² And it is plucked up in fury, To the earth it has been cast, And the east wind has dried up its fruit, Broken and withered has been the rod of its strength, Fire has consumed it." ¹³ And now--it is planted in a wilderness, In a land dry and thirsty." ¹⁴ And go forth does fire from a rod of its boughs, Its fruit it has devoured, And it has no rod of strength--a sceptre to rule, Lamentation it [is] --and it is for a lamentation!'"

²⁷ And it comes to pass, in the thirty and seventh year of the removal of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, in the twenty and seventh of the month has Evil-Merodach king of Babylon lifted up, in the year of his reigning, the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah, out of the house of restraint, ²⁸ and speaks with him good things and puts his throne above the throne of the kings who [are] with him in Babylon, ²⁹ and has changed the garments of his restraint, and he has eaten bread continually before him all days of his life, ³⁰ and his allowance--a continual allowance--has been given to him from the king, the matter of a day in its day, all days of his life.

⁴ Rejoice the soul of Your servant, For to You, O Yahweh, am I lifting up my soul."

¹⁴ and there is not an escaped and remaining one of the remnant of Judah, who are entering into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, even to turn back to the land of Judah, whither they are lifting up their soul to return to dwell, for they do not turn back, except those escaping.'"

³¹ And it comes to pass, in the thirty and seventh year of the removal of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, in the twenty and fifth of the month, has Evil-Merodach king of Babylon lifted up, in the year of his reign, the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah, and brings him out from the house of restraint, ³² and speaks with him good things, and sets his throne above the throne of the kings who [are] with him in Babylon, ³³ and he has changed his prison garments, and he has eaten bread before him continually, all the days of his life." ³⁴ And his allowance--a continual allowance--has been given to him by the king of Babylon, the matter of a day in its day, till the day of his death--all days of his life."

³ And the Ashdodites rise early on the morrow, and lo, Dagon is fallen on its face to the earth, before the ark of Yahweh; and they take Dagon, and put it back to its place. ⁴ And they rise early in the morning on the morrow, and lo, Dagon is fallen on its face to the earth, before the ark of Yahweh, and the head of Dagon, and the two palms of its hands are cut off at the threshold, only the fishy part has been left to him;" ⁵ therefore the priests of Dagon, and all those coming into the house of Dagon, tread not on the threshold of Dagon, in Ashdod, till this day.

²¹ And they forsake there their idols, and David and his men lift them up.

¹⁷ And sons of Jeconiah:Assir; Salathiel his son; ¹⁸ also Malchiram and Pedaiah, and Shenazzar, Jecamiah, Hoshama, and Nedabiah. ¹⁹ And sons of Pedaiah:Zerubbabel, and Shimei. And sons of Zerubbabel:Meshullam, and Hananiah, and Shelomith their sister, ²⁰ and Hashubah, and Ohel, and Berechiah, and Hasadiah, Jushab-Hesed, five. ²¹ And sons of Hananiah:Pelatiah, and Jesaiah, sons of Rephaiah, sons of Arnan, sons of Obadiah, sons of Shechaniah. ²² And sons of Shechaniah:Shemaiah; and sons of Shemaiah:Hattush, and Igeal, and Bariah, and Neariah, and Shaphat, six. ²³ And sons of Neariah:Elioenai, and Hezekiah, and Azrikam, three. ²⁴ And sons of Elioenai:Hodaiah, and Eliashib, and Pelaiah, and Akkub, and Johanan, and Delaiah, and Anani, seven.

¹² I was forgotten, like a dead man, out of heart; I became like a lost vessel."

¹⁸ If I have gone forth to the field, Then, lo, the pierced of the sword! And if I have entered the city, Then, lo, the diseased of famine! For both prophet and priest have gone up and down Unto a land that they knew not."

¹ And Yahweh said unto me:Though Moses and Samuel should stand before Me, My soul is not toward this people, Send from before My face, and they go out."

⁴ And you have let go--even through yourself, Of your inheritance that I gave to you, And I have caused you to serve your enemies, In a land that you have not known, For a fire you have kindled in Mine anger, Unto the eon it does burn."

³⁰ Thus said Yahweh:Write you this man childless, A man--he does not prosper in his days, For none of his seed does prosper, Sitting on the throne of David, And ruling again in Judah!"

³⁸ On all roofs of Moab, and in her broad-places, All of it--[is] lamentation, For I have broken Moab as a vessel in which there is no pleasure, An affirmation of Yahweh."

⁸ Israel is swallowed down. Now shall they come to be among the nations, as an instrument in which there is no delight."

¹² Now after the Babylonian exile Jeconiah begets Shalthiel; now Shalthiel begets Zerubbabel; ¹³ now Zerubbabel begets Abihud; now Abihud begets Eliakim; now Eliakim begets Azor; ¹⁴ now Azor begets Zadok; now Zadok begets Achim; now Achim begets Eliud; ¹⁵ now Eliud begets Eleazar; now Eleazar begets Matthan; now Matthan begets Jacob; ¹⁶ now Jacob begets Joseph, the husband of Mary of whom was born Jesus, Who is termed "Christ."

²¹ Or has not the potter the right over the clay, out of the same kneading to make one vessel, indeed, for honor, yet one for dishonor? ²² Now if God, wanting to display His indignation and to make His powerful doings known, carries, with much patience, the vessels of indignation, adapted for destruction, ²³ it is that He should also be making known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He makes ready before for glory -"

²⁰ Now in a great house there are not only gold and silver utensils, but wooden and earthenware also, and some indeed for honor, yet some for dishonor." ²¹ If, then, anyone should ever be purging himself from these, he will be a utensil for honor, hallowed, and useful to the Owner, made ready for every good act."

²⁶ I testify against you today by the heavens and the earth, that you shall perish, yea perish quickly off the land where you are crossing over the Jordan to tenant it. You shall not prolong your days on it, for you shall be exterminated, yea exterminated.

¹⁹ And now, write down for yourselves this song and teach it to the sons of Israel. Put it in their mouths so that this song may come to be for Me as a testimony against the sons of Israel.

¹ Give ear, O heavens, and let me speak, and hear O earth, the sayings of my mouth.

¹ The vision which was perceived by Isaiah, son of Amoz, which he perceives concerning Judah and Jerusalem, in the days of Uzziah, and Jotham, and Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah." ² Hark, you heavens! And give ear, O earth! For Yahweh speaks! Sons I bring up and exalt, yet they, they transgress against Me."

¹ Draw near, you nations, to hear! And you folkstems, attend! Hear shall the earth and its fulness! The habitance and all its offspring!"

¹⁹ Hear, O earth, lo, I am bringing evil on this people, The fruit of their devices, For to My words they gave no attention, And My law--they kick against it."

² Hear, you peoples, all of you! Attend, O earth and its fullness! My Lord Yahweh is coming among you as a Witness--My Lord, from His holy temple."

¹ Hear, pray, the word which my Lord Yahweh is saying:Rise, contend with the mountains, and the hills shall hear your voice." ² Hear, you mountains, the contention of Yahweh, and you perennial foundations of the earth. For a contention has Yahweh with His people, and with Israel will He plead."

¹⁶ And sons of Jehoiakim:Jeconiah his son, Zedekiah his son. ¹⁷ And sons of Jeconiah:Assir; Salathiel his son;

²⁰ Could a throne of woes be made partner with You, One forming misery by its statute?

¹¹ now Josiah begets Jeconiah and his brothers at the Babylonian exile.

³² He shall be great, and Son of the Most High shall He be called. And the Lord God shall be giving Him the throne of David, ³³ His father, and He shall reign over the house of Jacob for the eons. And of His kingdom there shall be no consummation."
