¹ I am the master who has seen humiliation under the club of His rage;

²¹ Be gracious to me! be gracious to me, you, my associates! For the hand of Eloah has touched me.

²⁰ You Who have made me see distresses, many and evil, You shall again revive me; You shall again bring me up from the abyss of the earth."

⁷ Your fury bears down upon me, And You humble me with all Your breakers. {Interlude{ "

¹⁵ From my youth have I been humbled and wearied unto death; I have borne the dread of You; I am distracted. ¹⁶ Your hot anger has passed upon me; Your frightenings have effaced me.

³ Despised is He, and shunned by men, a man of pains and knowing illness. And, as One concealing His face from us, despised is He, and we judge Him of no account."

¹⁷ I have not sat in an assembly of deriders, Nor do I exult, because of your hand, --Alone I have sat, For [with] indignation You have filled me." ¹⁸ Why has my pain been perpetual? And my wound incurable? It has refused to be healed, You are surely to me as a failing stream, Waters not stedfast."

¹⁴ Cursed [is] the day in which I was born, The day that my mother bare me, Let it not be blessed!" ¹⁵ Cursed [is] the man who bore tidings [to] my father, saying, `Born to you has been a child--a male,' Making him very glad!" ¹⁶ Then has that man been as the cities, That Yahweh overthrew, and repented not, And he has heard a cry at morning, And a shout at time of noon." ¹⁷ Because he has not put me to death from the womb, And my mother is to me--my grave, And her womb a pregnancy eonian." ¹⁸ Why [is] this? from the womb I have come out, To see labor and sorrow, Yea, consumed in shame are my days!"

⁶ And they take Jeremiah, and cast him into the pit of Malchiah son of the king, that [is] in the court of the prison, and they send down Jeremiah with cords; and in the pit there is no water, but mire, and Jeremiah sinks in the mire."

¹² Is it nothing to you, all who pass along the way? Look about and see if there is any pain like my pain which is brought on me, With which Yahweh afflicts in the day of His hot anger." ¹³ From on high He sends fire; into my bones He makes it descend; He spreads a net for my feet; He turns me back; He makes me desolate, languishing all the day." ¹⁴ The yoke of my transgressions is bound on; In His hand they intertwine themselves; They ascend upon my neck; it has caused my vigor to falter. Yahweh has given me over into the hands of those I cannot rise against.
