⁸ But I say to the unmarried and to the widows that it is good for them if they remain even as I. ⁹ But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry; for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.

⁸ Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger or quarreling.

³ who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

¹¹ But refuse to put younger widows on the list, for when they feel sensual desires in disregard of Christ, they want to marry,

¹ Let all who are under the yoke of slavery regard their masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be spoken against.

⁵ to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.

⁸ and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.

⁴ Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled; for God will judge the immoral and adulterous.

¹⁴ If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. ¹⁵ But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or a wrongdoer, or a troublesome meddler;
