⁷² To perform the mercy promised to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant,

⁷⁸ through the tender mercy of our God, with which the sunrise from on high will visit us;

³ and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others who provided for them out of their means.

¹ While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the upper country and came to Ephesus. There he found some disciples.

²³ for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, ²⁴ and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

¹⁵ For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion." ¹⁶ So it depends not upon man's will or exertion, but upon God's mercy. ¹⁷ For the scripture says to Pharaoh, "I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I may show my power in you, and that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth." ¹⁸ Therefore he has mercy on whom he wills, and he hardens the heart of whom he wills. ¹⁹ You will say to me then, "Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?" ²⁰ But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is formed say to him who formed it, "Why have you made me like this?" ²¹ Does not the potter have right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honor and another for dishonor? ²² What if God, choosing to show his wrath and to make his power known, endured with much patience the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, ²³ in order to make known the riches of his glory for the vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory,

⁸ But I will stay in Ephesus until Pentecost,

¹ Now it is superfluous for me to write to you about the offering for the saints,

⁴ But God, who is rich in mercy, because of his great love with which he loved us,

¹⁹ For who is our hope or joy or crown of exultation? Is it not even you, in the presence of our Lord Jesus at his coming?

³ As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, remain on at Ephesus so that you may instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines,

¹² For this reason I also suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.

¹⁶ May the Lord grant mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains;

¹² But Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus.

¹⁰ For God is not so unjust as to forget your work and the love which you have shown for his sake in serving the saints, as you still do.

¹⁰ As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you inquired and searched carefully,

¹ "To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: 'These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand, who walks among the seven golden lampstands:
