¹ After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. ² Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches. ³ In these lay a multitude of disabled people, blind, lame, paralyzed. ⁴ (...)⁵ One man who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. ⁶ When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had been in this condition for a long time, he said to him, "Do you want to be made well?" ⁷ The sick man answered him, "Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me." ⁸ Jesus said to him, "Rise, take up your bed, and walk." ⁹ And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked. Now that day was the Sabbath. ¹⁰ So the Jews said to the man who was cured, "It is the Sabbath; it is not lawful for you to carry your bed." ¹¹ But he answered them, "The man who made me well said to me, 'Take up your bed, and walk.'" ¹² They asked him, "Who is the man who said to you, 'Take up your bed, and walk'?" ¹³ Now the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, as there was a crowd in that place. ¹⁴ Afterward, Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, "See, you are well. Sin no more, so that nothing worse may happen to you." ¹⁵ The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well. ¹⁶ For this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he was doing these things on the Sabbath. ¹⁷ But Jesus answered them, "My Father is working still, and I am working." ¹⁸ Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill him, because he not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was his Father, making himself equal with God. ¹⁹ Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of himself, but only what he sees the Father doing; for whatever he does, the Son also does. ²⁰ For the Father loves the Son, and shows him all things that he himself does; and he will show him greater works than these, that you may marvel. ²¹ For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom he will. ²² For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, ²³ that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. ²⁴ Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears my word and believes him who sent me, has eternal life; and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. ²⁵ Truly, truly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live. ²⁶ For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself, ²⁷ and has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man. ²⁸ Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming when all who are in the graves will hear his voice ²⁹ and come forth those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment. ³⁰ "I can do nothing of myself; as I hear, I judge; and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me. ³¹ "If I bear witness of myself, my testimony is not true. ³² There is another who bears witness of me, and I know that the testimony which he bears of me is true. ³³ You have sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth. ³⁴ Not that the testimony which I receive is from man; but I say this that you may be saved. ³⁵ He was a burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a time in his light. ³⁶ But the testimony which I have is greater than that of John; for the works which the Father has given me to finish, these very works which I am doing, bear witness of me, that the Father has sent me. ³⁷ And the Father who sent me has himself testified of me. You have never heard his voice, nor seen his form. ³⁸ And you do not have his word abiding in you, for you do not believe him whom he has sent. ³⁹ You search the Scriptures, because in them you think that you have eternal life; and these are they that testify of me. ⁴⁰ Yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life. ⁴¹ "I do not receive glory from men. ⁴² But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you. ⁴³ I have come in my Father's name, and you do not receive me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive. ⁴⁴ How can you believe, who receive glory from one another, and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? ⁴⁵ Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; it is Moses who accuses you, on whom you set your hope. ⁴⁶ If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. ⁴⁷ But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?"

¹⁵ But Jesus answered him, "Let it be so now; for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he consented.

¹³ The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

⁴ But when the time had fully come, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

¹³ When Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judgment seat at a place that is called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha.

¹⁷ And he, bearing his cross, went out to a place called the Place of the Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha.

²⁰ Many of the Jews read this title, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin.

¹⁶ Jesus said to her, "Mary!" She turned and said to him in Hebrew, "Rabboni!" (which means, Teacher).

⁴⁰ When he had given him permission, Paul, standing on the steps, motioned to the people with his hand; and when there was a great hush, he spoke to them in the Hebrew language, saying,

³⁰ Then great crowds came to him, bringing with them the lame, the maimed, the blind, the mute, and many others; and they laid them down at his feet, and he healed them.

¹ He entered the synagogue again, and a man was there who had a withered hand. ² And they watched him closely, to see whether he would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse him. ³ And he said to the man who had the withered hand, "Come here." ⁴ Then he said to them, "Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?" But they kept silent.

²² He answered them, "Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have the good news preached to them.

²⁵ But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

⁷ Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receives the early and late rains.

³³ But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be given to you as well.

¹² From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and men of violence take it by force.

²⁴ "Strive to enter through the narrow door, for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able. ²⁵ When once the owner of the house has risen up and shut the door, you will begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, 'Lord, open for us.' He will answer you, 'I do not know where you come from.' ²⁶ Then you will begin to say, 'We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.' ²⁷ But he will say, 'I tell you, I do not know where you come from. Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity!' ²⁸ There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.

¹⁶ The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it.

¹¹ And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

⁷ But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

²¹ And Jesus asked his father, "How long has he been like this?" And he said, "From childhood.

⁴³ And a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years and could not be healed by anyone,

¹⁶ Then ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound for eighteen years, be loosed on the Sabbath day from this bond?"

¹⁴ Afterward, Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, "See, you are well. Sin no more, so that nothing worse may happen to you."

¹ As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth.

²¹ but how he now sees we do not know, nor do we know who opened his eyes. Ask him. He is of age; he will speak for himself."

² And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they set down every day at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful to beg alms of those who entered the temple.

²² For the man on whom this sign of healing was performed was more than forty years old.

³³ There he found a man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden for eight years and was paralyzed.

⁸ At Lystra there was a man sitting who had no strength in his feet, lame from birth, who had never walked.

⁴¹ "What do you want me to do for you?" He said, "Lord, I want to receive my sight."

¹⁷ He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, "Do you love me?" And he said to him, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep.

¹³ And there is no creature hidden from his sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

¹⁵ For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.

⁶ When we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.

²⁴ Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.

⁸ For we do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, of our affliction which came to us in Asia: that we were burdened beyond measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life. ⁹ Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. ¹⁰ He delivered us from so deadly a peril, and he will deliver us; on him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again.

⁶ But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins"he then said to the paralytic"Rise, take up your bed and go home."

¹¹ "I say to you, rise, take up your pallet and go home."

²⁴ But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins"he said to the man who was paralyzed "I say to you, rise, take up your bed and go home."

³⁴ Peter said to him, "Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; get up and make your bed." Immediately he got up.

¹⁰ And behold, there was a man with a withered hand. And they asked him, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?" so that they might accuse him. ¹¹ He said to them, "What man of you, if he has one sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out? ¹² Of how much more value is a man than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath." ¹³ Then he said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." And he stretched it out, and it was restored as whole as the other.

³¹ So he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. And she served them.

⁴² And immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean.

²⁹ And immediately the bleeding stopped; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease.

⁴¹ He took her by the hand and said to her, "Talitha cumi!" which means, "Little girl, I say to you, arise." ⁴² Immediately the girl stood up and walked (she was twelve years of age). And they were overcome with great amazement.

⁵² Then Jesus said to him, "Go your way; your faith has made you well." And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road.

¹⁰ Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. ¹¹ And there was a woman who had had a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years; she was bent over and could not straighten up at all. ¹² When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, "Woman, you are freed from your infirmity." ¹³ And he laid his hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and praised God. ¹⁴ But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the people, "There are six days on which work ought to be done; come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day." ¹⁵ Then the Lord answered him, "You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it? ¹⁶ Then ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound for eighteen years, be loosed on the Sabbath day from this bond?"

¹⁰ So the Jews said to the man who was cured, "It is the Sabbath; it is not lawful for you to carry your bed." ¹¹ But he answered them, "The man who made me well said to me, 'Take up your bed, and walk.'" ¹² They asked him, "Who is the man who said to you, 'Take up your bed, and walk'?"

²³ If on the Sabbath a man receives circumcision, so that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me because on the Sabbath I made a man's whole body well?

¹⁴ Now it was a Sabbath day when Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes.

⁷ And taking him by the right hand, he raised him up; and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. ⁸ With a leap he stood upright and began to walk; and he entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God.

² But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, "Look, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath." ³ He said to them, "Have you not read what David did, when he was hungry, and those who were with him: ⁴ how he entered the house of God and ate the consecrated bread which was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests? ⁵ Or have you not read in the Law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are innocent? ⁶ I tell you that one greater than the temple is here. ⁷ And if you had known what this means, 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the guiltless. ⁸ For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."

²⁴ And the Pharisees said to him, "Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?"

⁴ Then he said to them, "Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?" But they kept silent.

² But some of the Pharisees said, "Why are you doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath?"

¹⁴ But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the people, "There are six days on which work ought to be done; come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day."

⁵⁶ And on the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

¹⁶ For this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he was doing these things on the Sabbath.

¹⁶ Some of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath." But others said, "How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?" And there was a division among them.

⁹ Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Rise, take up your pallet and walk'? ¹⁰ But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins"he said to the paralytic, ¹¹ "I say to you, rise, take up your pallet and go home."

²³ And when he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him as he was teaching, and said, "By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?"

² For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but it is not according to knowledge.

³⁰ But passing through the midst of them, he went his way.

³¹ Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him; and he vanished from their sight.

⁵⁹ So they took up stones to throw at him; but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple.

⁹ Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you do not know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father; how can you say, 'Show us the Father'?

⁴⁵ Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation."

⁵ When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven."

⁵ One man who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years.

¹¹ She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you; go, and sin no more."

³ For you have spent enough time in the past doing what the Gentiles like to do, living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing, and lawless idolatry.

²¹ I gave her time to repent, but she refuses to repent of her immorality. ²² So I will cast her on a sickbed, and I will throw those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of her ways. ²³ And I will strike her children dead. And all the churches shall know that I am he who searches minds and hearts, and I will give to each of you according to your works.

⁴⁵ But he went out and began to talk freely about it, and to spread the news, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter a town, but was outside in the deserted places; and people came to him from every quarter.

¹⁹ Now this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?"

²⁹ "Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?"

¹² They asked him, "Who is the man who said to you, 'Take up your bed, and walk'?"

¹¹ He answered and said, "A man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me, 'Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.' So I went and washed, and I received sight." ¹² They said to him, "Where is he?" He said, "I do not know."

¹⁵ Then the Pharisees also asked him again how he had received his sight. He said to them, "He put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and I see."

²⁵ He answered, "Whether he is a sinner or not, I do not know. One thing I know, that though I was blind, now I see."

³⁰ The man answered, "Why, this is a marvel! You do not know where he comes from, and yet he opened my eyes.

³⁴ They answered him, "You were born in utter sin, and are you teaching us?" And they cast him out.

¹³ Then he said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." And he stretched it out, and it was restored as whole as the other.

⁶ Then the Pharisees went out and immediately plotted with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.

¹¹ But they were filled with fury and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.

¹³ Now the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, as there was a crowd in that place.

¹⁹ Did not Moses give you the law? Yet none of you keeps the law. Why do you seek to kill me?" ²⁰ The people answered, "You have a demon. Who is seeking to kill you?"

²⁵ Then some of the people of Jerusalem said, "Is not this the man whom they seek to kill?

³⁹ Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped from their hands.

²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will keep yours also.

⁴ And he fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" ⁵ And he said, "Who are you, Lord?" And he said, "I am Jesus whom you are persecuting,

²⁹ Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father's will.

⁴ we must work the works of him who sent me, while it is day. Night is coming, when no one can work.

¹⁰ Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority; but the Father who dwells in me does his works.

¹⁷ yet he did not leave himself without witness, in that he did good and gave you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness."

²⁸ 'For in him we live and move and have our being,' as even some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.'

⁶ There are varieties of working, but the same God who works all of them in all men.

¹⁶ For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authoritiesall things were created through him and for him.

³ He is the radiance of his glory and the exact representation of his being, and upholds all things by the word of his power. When he had made purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

⁵ Or have you not read in the Law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are innocent?

²³ that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

¹ After this Jesus went about in Galilee; he would not go about in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him.

¹⁹ Did not Moses give you the law? Yet none of you keeps the law. Why do you seek to kill me?"

²² Moses therefore gave you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath. ²³ If on the Sabbath a man receives circumcision, so that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me because on the Sabbath I made a man's whole body well?

⁵⁴ Jesus answered, "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say that he is your God.

⁵⁸ Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am."

³⁰ I and the Father are one."

³³ The Jews answered him, "For a good work we do not stone you, but for blasphemy, and because you, being a man, make yourself God."

²³ Jesus answered him, "If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.

⁷ The Jews answered him, "We have a law, and according to that law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God."

⁶ who, though he was in the form of God, did not consider equality with God a thing to be grasped,

²² And I saw no temple in the city, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. ²³ And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.

¹ Then he showed me the river of the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb,

³ There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will serve him.

¹⁵ for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.

¹⁹ Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."

³ Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

²¹ For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom he will.

¹⁸ No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from my Father."

²⁵ Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live; ²⁶ and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?"

⁴⁹ For I have not spoken on my own authority; but the Father who sent me gave me a command, what to say and what to speak.

¹⁶ And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, to be with you forever ¹⁷ the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him; but you know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. ¹⁸ I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. ¹⁹ A little while longer, and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you will live also. ²⁰ In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. ²¹ He who has my commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him." ²² Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, "Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?" ²³ Jesus answered him, "If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.

²⁴ But God raised him up, having loosed the agony of death, because it was impossible for him to be held in its power.

⁴ We were buried therefore with him through baptism into death, so that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

¹¹ If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit who dwells in you.

¹² Now if Christ is preached that he has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?

¹⁴ knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence.

¹⁰ For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

⁹ But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me. ¹⁰ That is why, for Christ's sake, I am content in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

¹⁸ I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, ¹⁹ and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power in us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of his might

⁵ even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),

¹⁶ that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inner man,

²¹ who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.

¹³ I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

¹¹ May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy,

¹⁴ For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus.

¹⁸ For Christ also died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit;

²³ And I will strike her children dead. And all the churches shall know that I am he who searches minds and hearts, and I will give to each of you according to your works.

¹⁷ And behold, a voice from heaven, saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."

²⁷ "All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

⁵ While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. Listen to him!"

²² All things have been delivered to me by my Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and the one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him."

¹⁸ No one has ever seen God; God the only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has made him known.

³⁵ The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand.

²⁵ Truly, truly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live.

²⁹ and come forth those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment.

³² Jesus answered them, "I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?"

⁴⁵ And he who sees me sees him who sent me. ⁴⁶ I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in me should not remain in darkness. ⁴⁷ If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.

¹² Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father.

¹⁵ No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.

²⁶ I have made known to them your name, and will make it known, that the love with which you loved me may be in them, and I in them."

¹⁷ For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him by the Majestic Glory, saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."

¹⁴ Then he came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And he said, "Young man, I say to you, arise." ¹⁵ The dead man sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother.

⁵⁴ But he took her by the hand and called, saying, "Child, arise." ⁵⁵ Then her spirit returned, and she got up at once. And he directed that something should be given her to eat.

²⁵ Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live;

⁴³ When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!" ⁴⁴ The dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with grave clothes, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, "Unbind him, and let him go."

² as you have given him authority over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to all those you have given him.

⁸ Why is it thought incredible by any of you that God raises the dead?

¹⁷ (as it is written, "I have made you the father of many nations") in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls things that do not exist as though they did. ¹⁸ In hope, he believed against hope, so that he became the father of many nations; as he had been told, "So shall your descendants be." ¹⁹ And he did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead since he was about a hundred years old, or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah's womb.

²⁷ For the Son of Man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will reward each man according to what he has done.

³¹ "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. ³² All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. ³³ And he will put the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. ³⁴ Then the King will say to those on his right hand, 'Come, you blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: ³⁵ for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you took me in, ³⁶ I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.' ³⁷ Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? ³⁸ When did we see you a stranger and take you in, or naked and clothe you? ³⁹ When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' ⁴⁰ And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.' ⁴¹ "Then he will say to those on his left hand, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels: ⁴² for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, ⁴³ I was a stranger and you did not take me in, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' ⁴⁴ Then they also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?' ⁴⁵ Then he will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.' ⁴⁶ And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

¹⁸ And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

²⁷ and has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man.

³⁹ Jesus said, "For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may become blind."

⁴² And he commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that he is the one appointed by God to be judge of the living and the dead.

³¹ because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed, and of this he has given proof to all men by raising him from the dead."

¹⁶ on that day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.

¹⁰ Why do you judge your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of God. ¹¹ For it is written: "As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God." ¹² So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.

⁷ and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, ⁸ inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. ⁹ They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction and exclusion from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his power, ¹⁰ when he comes to be glorified in his saints on that day, and to be marveled at among all who have believedbecause our testimony to you was believed.

¹ I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom:

⁵ but they will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

¹¹ Then I saw a great white throne and him who sat upon it; from his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. ¹² And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Also another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done.

³⁷ He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me;

²¹ and in his name will the Gentiles hope."

³⁷ Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' ³⁸ This is the great and first commandment.

¹⁹ Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

¹⁶ "He who hears you hears me, he who rejects you rejects me, and he who rejects me rejects him who sent me."

⁸ "I tell you, whoever acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God. ⁹ But he who denies me before men will be denied before the angels of God.

¹ "Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me.

²³ He who hates me hates my Father also. ²⁴ If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would not have sin; but now they have seen and hated both me and my Father.

¹⁴ He will glorify me, for he will take of what is mine and declare it to you.

¹⁰ And all mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them.

⁷ To all in Rome who are beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

²² But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the return you get is holiness and its end, eternal life.

⁹ But you are not in the flesh, you are in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ he does not belong to him.

⁷ For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. ⁸ If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's. ⁹ For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.

¹² And again, Isaiah says: "There shall be a root of Jesse; and he who shall rise to rule over the Gentiles, in him the Gentiles shall hope."

³ grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁹ Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;

³¹ So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

²² If anyone does not love the Lordlet him be accursed. Come, O Lord!

⁹ Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.

¹⁴ For the love of Christ controls us, because we are convinced that one has died for all; therefore all have died.

¹⁹ that is, God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.

¹⁴ The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

¹² in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, would be for the praise of his glory. ¹³ In him, you also have heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having also believed, you were sealed in him with the promised Holy Spirit,

²⁴ Grace be with all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.

¹¹ Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way to you; ¹² and may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, just as we do for you, ¹³ so that he may establish your hearts without blame in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.

¹⁶ Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope by grace, ¹⁷ comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.

¹² For this reason I also suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.

¹³ looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, ¹⁴ who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, zealous for good deeds.

⁴ But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, ⁵ he saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but because of his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal in the Holy Spirit, ⁶ whom he poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,

⁶ And again, when God brings the first-born into the world, he says, "Let all God's angels worship him."

¹ Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ:

¹⁸ But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

²³ No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.

⁹ Anyone who runs ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ does not have God; he who abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.

⁸ And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one holding a harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. ⁹ And they sang a new song, saying, "Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals; for you were slain, and with your blood purchased men for God from every tribe and tongue and people and nation. ¹⁰ You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God, and they will reign on the earth." ¹¹ Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne and the living creatures and the elders, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, ¹² saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!" ¹³ And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying, "To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!" ¹⁴ And the four living creatures said, "Amen!" And the elders fell down and worshipped.

¹⁶ He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

¹⁶ For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

¹⁸ He who believes in him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

³⁶ He who believes in the Son has eternal life; he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him."

⁴⁰ For this is the will of my Father, that every one who sees the Son and believes in him should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day."

⁴⁷ Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has everlasting life.

⁵¹ Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word he will never see death."

²⁷ My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. ²⁸ I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one shall snatch them out of my hand. ²⁹ My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of my Father's hand. ³⁰ I and the Father are one."

²⁶ and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?"

⁴⁴ Then Jesus cried out and said, "He who believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me.

³¹ but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name.

¹ There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

¹⁶ The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, ¹⁷ and if children, then heirsheirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with him, in order that we may also be glorified with him.

²⁸ And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who are called according to his purpose. ²⁹ For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. ³⁰ And those whom he predestined, he also called; those whom he called, he also justified; and those whom he justified, he also glorified.

³³ Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. ³⁴ Who is he who condemns? It is Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who is also interceding for us.

¹¹ The scripture says, "No one who believes in him will be put to shame." ¹² For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and bestows his riches on all who call upon him. ¹³ For, "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

⁹ For God has not destined us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

¹³ But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. ¹⁴ He called you to this through our gospel, that you may share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁵ who are protected by God's power through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

²¹ Through him you have confidence in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

¹⁴ We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death.

¹ Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the parent loves the child.

¹¹ And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. ¹² He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. ¹³ I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

⁶⁰ Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God."

²⁴ for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' And they began to be merry.

³² It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.'"

²¹ Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.

²³ But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for such the Father seeks to worship him.

²⁸ Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming when all who are in the graves will hear his voice

⁴³ Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you are not able to hear my word.

⁴⁷ He who is of God hears the words of God; the reason you do not hear them is that you are not of God."

¹ Now before the feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.

¹ When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said: "Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son also may glorify you,

¹ And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,

¹⁴ For this reason it is said, "Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."

¹³ When you were dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive together with him, having forgiven us all our sins,

¹ "And to the angel of the church in Sardis write: 'These are the words of him who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars: I know your works; you have a name of being alive, but you are dead.

⁴ In him was life, and the life was the light of men.

¹⁰ Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water."

⁵⁷ As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on me will live because of me.

³⁷ On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. ³⁸ He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water."

⁶ Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

¹⁹ A little while longer, and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you will live also.

² as you have given him authority over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to all those you have given him. ³ And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

²⁵ nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all men life and breath and everything.

⁴⁵ So it is written, "The first man Adam became a living being"; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

³ For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. ⁴ When Christ, who is our life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

¹⁷ Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

¹⁶ who alone has immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.

¹ That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have touched, concerning the Word of life, ² the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and testify to it, and proclaim to you the eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us ³ that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you may have fellowship with us; and our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.

¹⁷ For the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water; and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."

⁶ Then he said to me, "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who is thirsty from the spring of the water of life without cost.

¹⁷ The Spirit and the Bride say, "Come." And let him who hears say, "Come." And let him who is thirsty come; let him who wishes take the water of life without price.

²² For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son,

²⁵ For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.

²⁰ which he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, ²¹ far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. ²² And he put all things under his feet and gave him to be the head over all things for the church, ²³ which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

⁷ but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men. ⁸ And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to deatheven death on a cross. ⁹ Therefore God also highly exalted him, and bestowed on him the name which is above every name, ¹⁰ that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, ¹¹ and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

⁷ You made him for a little while lower than the angels; you crowned him with glory and honor, ⁸ and put everything in subjection under his feet." Now in putting everything in subjection to him, he left nothing that is not subject to him. As it is, we do not yet see everything subject to him. ⁹ But we see Jesus, who for a little while was made lower than the angels, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.

²² who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels and authorities and powers subject to him.

⁷ Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'

²⁰ For the Father loves the Son, and shows him all things that he himself does; and he will show him greater works than these, that you may marvel.

³⁹ And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up at the last day. ⁴⁰ For this is the will of my Father, that every one who sees the Son and believes in him should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day."

²⁴ Martha said to him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day." ²⁵ Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live;

¹² And when Peter saw this he addressed the people, "Men of Israel, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as if by our own power or piety we had made him walk?

²² For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.

⁴² So is it with the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised imperishable; ⁴³ it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; ⁴⁴ it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. ⁴⁵ So it is written, "The first man Adam became a living being"; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit. ⁴⁶ However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural; and then the spiritual. ⁴⁷ The first man was from the earth, of dust; the second man is from heaven. ⁴⁸ As was the man of dust, so are those who are of the dust; and as is the man of heaven, so also are those who are of heaven. ⁴⁹ Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven. ⁵⁰ Now I tell you this, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. ⁵¹ Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, ⁵² in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. ⁵³ For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality. ⁵⁴ When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then will come to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory."

¹⁴ For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. ¹⁵ For this we declare to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. ¹⁶ For the Lord himself will descend from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. ¹⁷ Then we who are alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.

¹² And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Also another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done.

¹⁴ and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. You will be repaid at the resurrection of the just."

¹⁵ having a hope in God, which these men cherish themselves, that there will certainly be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked.

⁶ For he "will render to each one according to his works": ⁷ to those who by patience in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality, he will give eternal life; ⁸ but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey wickedness, there will be wrath and fury. ⁹ There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek, ¹⁰ but glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek.

⁸ For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption; but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. ⁹ Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. ¹⁰ So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

¹⁸ Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, to be generous and ready to share,

¹⁶ Do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

¹¹ He must turn away from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it.

³⁹ And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, "O my Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will."

³⁴ Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to finish his work.

¹⁹ Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of himself, but only what he sees the Father doing; for whatever he does, the Son also does.

³⁸ For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me.

¹⁵ You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one. ¹⁶ And yet if I do judge, my judgment is true, for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent me.

⁴² Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I proceeded and came forth from God; I have not come of my own accord, but he sent me.

⁵⁰ Yet I do not seek my own glory; there is One who seeks it and he will be the judge.

⁴ I have glorified you on the earth, having finished the work which you have given me to do.

¹¹ Jesus said to Peter, "Put your sword into its sheath; shall I not drink the cup which the Father has given me?"

² We know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who do such things.

⁵ But by your hardness and your impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed.

³ For even Christ did not please himself; but, as it is written, "The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me."

¹³ The Pharisees then said to him, "You are bearing witness of yourself; your testimony is not true." ¹⁴ Jesus answered, "Even if I bear witness of myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from and where I am going.

¹⁴ "And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: 'These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God's creation:

¹¹ And a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."

²² and the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased."

³³ I did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.'

³⁶ But the testimony which I have is greater than that of John; for the works which the Father has given me to finish, these very works which I am doing, bear witness of me, that the Father has sent me. ³⁷ And the Father who sent me has himself testified of me. You have never heard his voice, nor seen his form.

¹⁷ In your own law it is written that the testimony of two men is true. ¹⁸ I am One who bears witness of myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness of me."

²⁸ Father, glorify your name." Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again." ²⁹ The crowd standing by heard it and said that it had thundered. Others said, "An angel has spoken to him." ³⁰ Jesus answered, "This voice has come for your sake, not for mine.

⁵⁰ And I know that his command is eternal life. Whatever I say, therefore, I say just as the Father has told me."

⁶ This is he who came by water and bloodJesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. ⁷ And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is the truth. ⁸ There are three witnesses, the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree. ⁹ If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God which he has borne witness of his Son.

⁶ There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. ⁷ He came for a witness, to bear witness of the light, that all might believe through him. ⁸ He was not the light, but came to bear witness of the light.

¹⁵ John bore witness of him and cried out, saying, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me ranks before me, for he was before me.'" ¹⁶ And from his fullness have we all received, grace upon grace. ¹⁷ For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. ¹⁸ No one has ever seen God; God the only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has made him known. ¹⁹ Now this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?" ²⁰ He confessed, he did not deny, but confessed, "I am not the Christ." ²¹ And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the prophet?" And he answered, "No." ²² Then they said to him, "Who are you? Give us an answer for those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?" ²³ He said, "I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way of the Lord,' as the prophet Isaiah said." ²⁴ Now they had been sent from the Pharisees. ²⁵ They asked him, "Then why do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?" ²⁶ John answered them, "I baptize with water, but there stands One among you whom you do not know. ²⁷ It is he who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie."

²⁹ The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! ³⁰ This is he of whom I said, 'After me comes a man who ranks before me, for he was before me.' ³¹ I myself did not know him; but for this I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel." ³² And John bore witness, "I saw the Spirit descend as a dove from heaven, and it remained on him. ³³ I did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.' ³⁴ And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God."

²⁶ And they came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, he who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified behold, he is baptizing, and all are going to him." ²⁷ John answered, "A man can receive only what is given to him from heaven. ²⁸ You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, 'I am not the Christ,' but I have been sent before him. ²⁹ He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now full. ³⁰ He must increase, but I must decrease. ³¹ "He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth belongs to the earth, and of the earth he speaks. He who comes from heaven is above all. ³² He testifies to what he has seen and heard; yet no one receives his testimony. ³³ He who has received his testimony has certified that God is true. ³⁴ For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without measure. ³⁵ The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand. ³⁶ He who believes in the Son has eternal life; he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him."

³⁴ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those who are sent to you! How often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing!

¹⁰ For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost."

⁴¹ And when he drew near and saw the city he wept over it, ⁴² saying, "If you had known, even you, this day, the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.

⁴⁷ and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

⁴¹ "I do not receive glory from men.

³ What if some did not have faith? Will their faithlessness nullify the faithfulness of God?

¹ Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved.

²¹ But of Israel he says, "All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people."

²¹ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

²² To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, so that I might by all means save some.

³ This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, ⁴ who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

¹⁶ Take heed to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in them, for if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

⁹ If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God which he has borne witness of his Son.

⁵ Then Jerusalem and all Judea and all the region about the Jordan went out to him, ⁶ and confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. ⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

⁷ As they went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds concerning John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? ⁸ But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed, those who wear soft clothing are in kings' houses. ⁹ Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

¹¹ Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

²⁰ But he who received the seed on rocky places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; ²¹ yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. And when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he falls away.

²⁶ But if we say, 'From men,' we are afraid of the multitude; for all hold that John was a prophet."

²⁰ for Herod feared John and protected him, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man. When he heard him, he was much perplexed; and yet he heard him gladly.

¹⁵ For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb. ¹⁶ And he will turn many of the sons of Israel to the Lord their God. ¹⁷ And he will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, 'to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,' and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."

⁷⁶ And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare his ways, ⁷⁷ to give knowledge of salvation to his people in the forgiveness of their sins,

²⁸ I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he."

⁶⁶ From this time many of his disciples went back and no longer walked with him.

¹⁵ What has become of the satisfaction you felt? For I bear you witness that, if possible, you would have plucked out your eyes and given them to me. ¹⁶ Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?

¹⁹ And we have the prophetic word made more sure, and you will do well to pay attention to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

⁴ And Jesus answered them, "Go and tell John what you hear and see:

²³ Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs which he did.

² This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him."

¹⁷ For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.

³² There is another who bears witness of me, and I know that the testimony which he bears of me is true.

³⁰ The man answered, "Why, this is a marvel! You do not know where he comes from, and yet he opened my eyes. ³¹ We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if any one is a worshiper of God and does his will, he listens to him. ³² Never since the world began has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind. ³³ If this man were not from God, he could do nothing."

²⁵ Jesus answered them, "I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me;

³⁷ If I do not do the works of my father, do not believe me; ³⁸ but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I am in the Father."

³⁷ But some of them said, "Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying?"

¹⁰ Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. ¹¹ Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me; or else believe me for the sake of the works themselves.

²⁴ If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would not have sin; but now they have seen and hated both me and my Father.

²² "Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know

¹¹ And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. ¹² He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

²⁷ Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you; for on him has God the Father set his seal."

¹⁸ I am One who bears witness of myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness of me."

¹ That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have touched, concerning the Word of life, ² the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and testify to it, and proclaim to you the eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us

¹² No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.

²⁰ If anyone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen.

¹¹ He came to his own, and his own did not receive him.

¹⁷ For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. ¹⁸ He who believes in him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. ¹⁹ And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ For every one who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. ²¹ But he who does the truth comes to the light, that it may be clearly seen that his deeds have been done in God."

⁴² But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you. ⁴³ I have come in my Father's name, and you do not receive me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive.

⁴⁶ If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. ⁴⁷ But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?"

³⁷ I know that you are Abraham's descendants, yet you seek to kill me, because my word has no place in you.

⁴⁶ Which of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? ⁴⁷ He who is of God hears the words of God; the reason you do not hear them is that you are not of God."

⁴⁴ Then Jesus cried out and said, "He who believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me. ⁴⁵ And he who sees me sees him who sent me. ⁴⁶ I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in me should not remain in darkness. ⁴⁷ If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. ⁴⁸ He who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will condemn him on the last day.

⁷ If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you.

¹⁶ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

²¹ Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and rank growth of wickedness, in humility receive the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. ²² But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who deceive themselves.

¹⁴ I wrote to you, little children, because you have known the Father. I wrote to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I wrote to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

¹⁶ Now behold, one came up and said to him, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to have eternal life?" ¹⁷ And he said to him, "Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments." ¹⁸ He said to him, "Which ones?" And Jesus said, "'You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness, ¹⁹ honor your father and mother, and, you shall love your neighbor as yourself.'" ²⁰ The young man said to him, "All these I have kept. What do I still lack?"

²⁹ But Jesus answered them, "You are wrong, because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.

¹⁰ Have you not read this Scripture: 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone;

²⁵ And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" ²⁶ He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read?" ²⁷ And he answered, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind'; and 'your neighbor as yourself.'" ²⁸ And he said to him, "You have answered right; do this, and you will live." ²⁹ But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"

²⁹ Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.'

³¹ He said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced if some one should rise from the dead.'"

²⁷ And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he explained to them the things concerning himself in all the scriptures.

⁴⁴ Then he said to them, "These are my words which I spoke to you, while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and the psalms must be fulfilled."

⁴⁵ Philip found Nathanael and said to him, "We have found him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph."

³⁶ But the testimony which I have is greater than that of John; for the works which the Father has given me to finish, these very works which I am doing, bear witness of me, that the Father has sent me.

⁴⁶ If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.

⁵² They replied, "Are you from Galilee, too? Search and look, and you will find that no prophet is to rise out of Galilee."

³² Now the passage of Scripture which he was reading was this: "He was led as a sheep to slaughter; and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he does not open his mouth. ³³ In his humiliation justice was denied him. Who can describe his generation? For his life is taken up from the earth." ³⁴ And the eunuch said to Philip, "Please tell me, of whom does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else?" ³⁵ Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this scripture he told him the good news of Jesus.

²⁷ For those who live in Jerusalem and their rulers, because they did not recognize him nor the utterances of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled these by condemning him.

¹¹ Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

²² To this day I have had the help that comes from God, and so I stand here testifying both to small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses said would happen: ²³ that the Christ must suffer, and that, by being the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light both to the people and to the Gentiles."

²⁷ King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know that you do."

² which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures,

¹⁷ But if you call yourself a Jew, and rely on the law and boast of your relation to God ¹⁸ and know his will and approve of what is excellent, because you are instructed in the law,

² Much in every way! To begin with, they are entrusted with the oracles of God.

¹⁴ But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, knowing from whom you learned it, ¹⁵ and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. ¹⁶ All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness; ¹⁷ so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

¹⁶ But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.

³⁵ Women received back their dead, raised to life again. Others were tortured and refused to be released, so that they might gain a better resurrection.

¹⁰ As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you inquired and searched carefully, ¹¹ seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow.

¹⁹ And we have the prophetic word made more sure, and you will do well to pay attention to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. ²⁰ First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, ²¹ for no prophecy was ever made by the act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

¹⁰ Then I fell at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, "You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brethren who hold the testimony of Jesus. Worship God. For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."

³ and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; but they were not willing to come.

³⁷ "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those who are sent to you! How often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!

¹⁹ And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

⁴⁴ How can you believe, who receive glory from one another, and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?

³⁷ All that the Father gives me will come to me, and the one who comes to me I will by no means cast out.

⁶⁸ Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. ⁶⁹ And we believe, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God."

⁴⁵ But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. ⁴⁶ Which of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me?

³⁷ Though he had done so many signs before them, yet they did not believe in him; ³⁸ that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke: "Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?" ³⁹ Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again: ⁴⁰ "He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, lest they should see with their eyes, and understand with their hearts and turn, so that I should heal them." ⁴¹ Isaiah said this because he saw his glory and spoke of him.

²³ For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

³⁴ Not that the testimony which I receive is from man; but I say this that you may be saved.

¹⁵ Perceiving then that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, Jesus withdrew again to the mountain by himself.

¹⁸ He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but he who seeks the glory of the One who sent him is true, and in him there is no falsehood.

⁶ nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, though we might have made demands as apostles of Christ.

²¹ For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

¹⁵ He said to them, "You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God.

⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him, and said of him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!" ⁴⁸ Nathanael said to him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you." ⁴⁹ Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!"

²⁵ and he had no need for anyone to bear witness of man, for he knew what was in man.

⁵⁵ But you have not known him; I know him. If I said, I do not know him, I would be a liar like you; but I do know him and keep his word.

⁷ For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so;

¹² For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. ¹³ And there is no creature hidden from his sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

¹⁵ Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

¹⁷ But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?

⁵ For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many.

²⁴ For false christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

²⁸ So Jesus said, "When you have lifted up the Son of man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority but speak just what the Father taught me. ²⁹ And he who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what is pleasing to him."

²⁸ Father, glorify your name." Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again."

⁴ I have glorified you on the earth, having finished the work which you have given me to do. ⁵ And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory which I had with you before the world was made. ⁶ "I have manifested your name to the men whom you have given me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me, and they have kept your word.

³⁶ For some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody, and a group of about four hundred men joined him. But he was killed, and all who followed him were dispersed and came to nothing. ³⁷ After this man, Judas the Galilean rose up in the days of the census and drew away some people after him; he too perished, and all those who followed him were scattered.

³⁸ Then you are not the Egyptian who some time ago stirred up a revolt and led the four thousand men of the Assassins out into the wilderness?"

⁴ And no one takes the honor upon himself, but he is called by God, just as Aaron was. ⁵ So also Christ did not exalt himself to become a high priest, but it was he who said to him, "You are my son, today I have begotten you";

⁵ But they do all their works to be seen by men; for they make their phylacteries broad and the tassels of their garments long.

²¹ His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your master.' ²² He also who had received the two talents came and said, 'Master, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents.' ²³ His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your master.'

¹⁷ And he said to him, 'Well done, good servant! Because you have been faithful in a very little, be in authority over ten cities.'

²⁰ For every one who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.

⁴³ for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

³ And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

⁷ to those who by patience in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality, he will give eternal life;

¹⁰ but glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek.

²⁹ He is a Jew who is one inwardly; and real circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, and not by the written code. His praise is not from men but from God.

⁷ For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so; ⁸ and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

⁵ Therefore do not go on passing judgment before the time, but wait until the Lord comes who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of men's hearts. Then every man will receive his praise from God.

¹⁸ For it is not he who commends himself that is approved, but he whom the Lord commends.

¹⁹ Now the deeds of the flesh are obvious: immorality, impurity, lewdness, ²⁰ idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, ²¹ envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

³ Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

¹² Take care, brethren, lest there be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God.

¹ My brethren, show no favoritism as you hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ.

⁷ so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

⁷ They said to him, "Why then did Moses command one to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?" ⁸ He said to them, "Because of the hardness of your hearts Moses permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.

⁵ Now in the law Moses commanded us to stone such. What do you say?" ⁶ They said this to test him, that they might have something of which to accuse him. But Jesus bent down and wrote on the ground with his finger.

⁹ Then those who heard it went away one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last, and Jesus was left alone, with the woman standing before him.

²⁸ Then they reviled him and said, "You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. ²⁹ We know that God spoke to Moses, but as for this fellow, we do not know where he comes from."

¹² All who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law.

¹⁷ But if you call yourself a Jew, and rely on the law and boast of your relation to God ¹⁸ and know his will and approve of what is excellent, because you are instructed in the law, ¹⁹ and if you are sure that you are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, ²⁰ an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of infants, having in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth ²¹ you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal? ²² You who say that one must not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? ²³ You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? ²⁴ For, as it is written, "The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you." ²⁵ Circumcision indeed is of value if you obey the law; but if you break the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. ²⁶ So, if a man who is uncircumcised keeps the requirements of the law, will not his uncircumcision be regarded as circumcision? ²⁷ The one who is not circumcised physically and yet obeys the law will condemn you who, even though you have the written code and circumcision, are a breaker of the law. ²⁸ For he is not a real Jew who is one outwardly, nor is true circumcision something outward and in the flesh. ²⁹ He is a Jew who is one inwardly; and real circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, and not by the written code. His praise is not from men but from God.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped and the whole world may be held accountable to God. ²⁰ Therefore no flesh will be justified in his sight by works of the law, for through the law comes knowledge of sin.

⁹ I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died. ¹⁰ The very commandment which was to bring life I found to be death to me. ¹¹ For sin, finding opportunity in the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me. ¹² So the law is holy, and the commandment is holy and just and good. ¹³ Did that which is good, then, become death to me? Certainly not! But it was sin, working death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be recognized as sin, so that through the commandment sin might become sinful beyond measure. ¹⁴ We know that the law is spiritual; but I am carnal, sold under sin.

⁵ For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, "The man who does those things shall live by them." ⁶ But the righteousness based on faith says, "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?'" (that is, to bring Christ down) ⁷ or "Who will descend into the abyss?" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). ⁸ But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith which we preach); ⁹ because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. ¹⁰ For man believes with his heart and so is justified, and he confesses with his mouth and so is saved.

⁷ Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, fading though it was, ⁸ will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious? ⁹ For if the ministry of condemnation has glory, much more does the ministry of righteousness exceed it in glory. ¹⁰ For indeed what had glory, in this case has no glory because of the glory that surpasses it. ¹¹ For if what was fading away came with glory, much more is the glory of that which lasts.

¹⁰ For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who does not abide by all things written in the book of the law, to do them."

²² To this day I have had the help that comes from God, and so I stand here testifying both to small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses said would happen:

⁴ For Christ is the end of the law, that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

¹⁹ For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God.

¹³ Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for usfor it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"

²⁴ So the law was our tutor to lead us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

²¹ Tell me, you who want to be under law, do you not listen to the law? ²² For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave and one by the free woman. ²³ But the son by the slave was born according to the flesh, and the son by the free woman through the promise. ²⁴ This is allegorically speaking, for these women are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai bearing children who are to be slaves; she is Hagar. ²⁵ Now this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children. ²⁶ But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother. ²⁷ For it is written, "Rejoice, O barren woman who does not bear; break forth and shout, you who are not in labor; for the children of the desolate are more numerous than the children of her who has a husband." ²⁸ Now you, brethren, like Isaac, are children of promise. ²⁹ But as at that time he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so it is now. ³⁰ But what does the scripture say? "Cast out the slave and her son, for the son of the slave shall not inherit with the son of the free woman." ³¹ So then, brethren, we are not children of the slave, but of the free woman.

¹ For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him. ² And to him Abraham gave a tenth part of everything. He is first, by translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then he is also king of Salem, that is, king of peace. ³ Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, he remains a priest continually. ⁴ See how great he was! Even the patriarch Abraham gave him a tenth of the spoils. ⁵ And those descendants of Levi who receive the priestly office have a commandment in the law to take a tenth from the people, that is, from their brethren, though these also are descended from Abraham. ⁶ But this man whose genealogy is not derived from them received a tenth from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises. ⁷ And without dispute the lesser person is blessed by the greater. ⁸ In this case tithes are received by mortal men, but in that case by one of whom it is witnessed that he lives on. ⁹ One might even say that Levi himself, who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham, ¹⁰ for he was still in the loins of his ancestor when Melchizedek met him.
