⁶ So then do not let us sleep as the rest do, but let us watch and be sober;

¹⁵ Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep, and the idle soul shall suffer hunger.

¹⁰ His watchmen are all of them blind, they are without knowledge; they are all dumb dogs that cannot bark, dreaming, lying down, loving to slumber:

⁶ And the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, sleeper? arise, call upon thy God; perhaps God will think upon us, that we perish not.

²⁵ but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed darnel amongst the wheat, and went away.

⁴² Watch therefore, for ye know not in what hour your Lord comes.

⁵ Now the bridegroom tarrying, they all grew heavy and slept.

¹³ Watch therefore, for ye know not the day nor the hour.

³⁸ Then he says to them, My soul is very sorrowful even unto death; remain here and watch with me.

⁴⁰ And he comes to the disciples and finds them sleeping, and says to Peter, Thus ye have not been able to watch one hour with me? ⁴¹ Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed [is] ready, but the flesh weak.

³⁴ [it is] as a man gone out of the country, having left his house and given to his bondmen the authority, and to each one his work, and commanded the doorkeeper that he should watch. ³⁵ Watch therefore, for ye do not know when the master of the house comes: evening, or midnight, or cock-crow, or morning;

³⁷ But what I say to you, I say to all, Watch.

³⁷ And he comes and finds them sleeping. And he says to Peter, Simon, dost thou sleep? Hast thou not been able to watch one hour? ³⁸ Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation. The spirit indeed [is] willing, but the flesh weak.

³⁷ Blessed are those bondmen whom the lord [on] coming shall find watching; verily I say unto you, that he will gird himself and make them recline at table, and coming up will serve them.

³⁹ But this know, that if the master of the house had known in what hour the thief was coming, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be dug through.

³⁶ Watch therefore, praying at every season, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things which are about to come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

⁴⁶ And he said to them, Why sleep ye? rise up and pray that ye enter not into temptation.

³¹ Wherefore watch, remembering that for three years, night and day, I ceased not admonishing each one [of you] with tears.

¹¹ This also, knowing the time, that it is already time that *we* should be aroused out of sleep; for now [is] our salvation nearer than when we believed. ¹² The night is far spent, and the day is near; let us cast away therefore the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. ¹³ As in the day, let us walk becomingly; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and lasciviousness, not in strife and emulation. ¹⁴ But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not take forethought for the flesh to [fulfil its] lusts.

³⁴ Awake up righteously, and sin not; for some are ignorant of God: I speak to you as a matter of shame.

¹³ Be vigilant; stand fast in the faith; quit yourselves like men; be strong.

¹⁴ Wherefore he says, Wake up, [thou] that sleepest, and arise up from among the dead, and the Christ shall shine upon thee.

¹⁸ praying at all seasons, with all prayer and supplication in [the] Spirit, and watching unto this very thing with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints;

⁵ Let your gentleness be known of all men. The Lord [is] near.

² Persevere in prayer, watching in it with thanksgiving;

⁸ but *we* being of [the] day, let us be sober, putting on [the] breastplate of faith and love, and as helmet [the] hope of salvation;

⁹ In like manner also that the women in decent deportment and dress adorn themselves with modesty and discretion, not with plaited [hair] and gold, or pearls, or costly clothing,

¹⁵ But she shall be preserved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and love and holiness with discretion.

² The overseer then must be irreproachable, husband of one wife, sober, discreet, decorous, hospitable, apt to teach;

¹¹ [The] women in like manner grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.

⁵ But *thou*, be sober in all things, bear evils, do [the] work of an evangelist, fill up the full measure of thy ministry.

⁶ The younger men in like manner exhort to be discreet:

¹² teaching us that, having denied impiety and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, and justly, and piously in the present course of things,

¹³ Wherefore, having girded up the loins of your mind, [be] sober [and] hope with perfect stedfastness in the grace [which will be] brought to you at [the] revelation of Jesus Christ;

⁷ But the end of all things is drawn nigh: be sober therefore, and be watchful unto prayers;

⁸ Be vigilant, watch. Your adversary [the] devil as a roaring lion walks about seeking whom he may devour.

² Be watchful, and strengthen the things that remain, which are about to die, for I have not found thy works complete before my God.

¹⁵ (Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed [is] he that watches and keeps his garments, that he may not walk naked, and that they [may not] see his shame.)
