¹ I made a covenant with my eyes, that I would not so much as think upon a virgin.

² The sons of God seeing the daughters of men, that they were fair, took to themselves wives of all which they chose.

² In the mean time it happened that David arose from his bed after noon, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: And he saw from the roof of his house a woman washing herself, over against him: and the woman was very beautiful. ³ And the king sent, and inquired who the woman was. And it was told him, that she was Bethsabee the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Urias the Hethite. ⁴ And David sent messengers, and took her, and she came in to him, and he slept with her: and presently she was purified from her uncleanness:

³⁷ Turn away my eyes that they may not behold vanity: quicken me in thy way.

²⁵ Let thy eyes look straight on, and let thy eyelids go before thy steps.

²⁵ Let not thy heart covet her beauty, be not caught with her winks:

³¹ Look not upon the wine when it is yellow, when the colour thereof shineth in the glass: it goeth in pleasantly, ³² But in the end, it will bite like a snake, and will spread abroad poison like a basilisk. ³³ Thy eyes shall behold strange women, and thy heart shall utter perverse things.

²⁸ But I say to you, that whosoever shall look on a woman to lust after her, hath already committed adultery with her in his heart. ²⁹ And if thy right eye scandalize thee, pluck it out and cast it from thee. For it is expedient for thee that one of thy members should perish, rather than thy whole body be cast into hell.

¹⁴ But every man is tempted by his own concupiscence, being drawn away and allured. ¹⁵ Then, when concupiscence hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin. But sin, when it is completed, begetteth death.

¹⁶ For all that is in the world is the concupiscence of the flesh and the concupiscence of the eyes and the pride of life, which is not of the Father but is of the world.
