²⁰ And Noah began to till the ground, and he planted a vineyard;

¹⁸ thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the grass of the field; ¹⁹ in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread until thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken, for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

²³ therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken.

² And she again bore his brother Abel. And Abel was a pastor of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

²⁹ and he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands because of the ground which the LORD has cursed.

⁶ And who has planted a vineyard and has not yet eaten of it? Let him also go and return unto his house lest peradventure he die in the battle and another man eat of it.

³⁰ Thou shalt betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her; thou shalt build a house, and thou shalt not dwell therein; thou shalt plant a vineyard and shalt not gather the grapes thereof.

¹¹ ¶ The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life, but the mouth of the wicked covers violence.

¹¹ ¶ He that tills his land shall be satisfied with bread, but he that follows vain persons is void of understanding.

³⁰ ¶ I went by the field of the slothful and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding,

⁹ ¶ And there is higher authority in all of the things of the earth, but he who serves the field is king.

⁶ Do not look upon me because I am dark because the sun has looked upon me; my mother’s sons were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards, but I have not kept my own vineyard.

²⁴ Does the plowman plow all day to sow? does he open and break the clods of his ground? ²⁵ When he has levelled the face thereof, does he not cast abroad the fitches and scatter the cummin and cast in the principal wheat and the appointed barley and the rye in their place? ²⁶ For his God teaches him to know how to judge and instructs him.

⁷ Who serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat of its fruit? or who feeds a flock and does not eat of the milk of the flock?
