¹ ¶ Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. ² (It was that Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair whose brother Lazarus was sick.) ³ Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick. ⁴ When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby. ⁵ Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. ⁶ When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was. ⁷ Then after that he said to his disciples, Let us go into Judea again. ⁸ His disciples said unto him, Rabbi, the Jews of late sought to stone thee, and goest thou there again? ⁹ Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble because he sees the light of this world. ¹⁰ But he who walks in the night stumbles because there is no light in him. ¹¹ Having said that he said unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleeps, but I go that I may awake him out of sleep. ¹² Then his disciples said, Lord, if he sleeps, he shall be saved. ¹³ But Jesus had spoken of his death, and they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep. ¹⁴ Then Jesus said unto them plainly, Lazarus has died. ¹⁵ And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, in order that ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him. ¹⁶ Then Thomas said, who is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us go also, that we may die with him. ¹⁷ ¶ Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already. ¹⁸ Now Bethany was near unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off; ¹⁹ and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them concerning their brother. ²⁰ Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him; but Mary sat still in the house. ²¹ Then Martha said unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother would not have died. ²² But I know that even now whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it unto thee. ²³ Jesus said unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. ²⁴ Martha said unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection in the last day. ²⁵ Jesus said unto her, I AM the resurrection and the life; he that believes in me, though he is dead, yet shall he live; ²⁶ and whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Believest thou this? ²⁷ She said unto him, Yes, Lord, I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, who should come into the world. ²⁸ And having said this, she went away and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calls for thee. ²⁹ As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly and came unto him. ³⁰ (Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.) ³¹ Then the Jews who were with her in the house and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goes unto the grave to weep there. ³² Then when Mary was come where Jesus was and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother would not have died. ³³ ¶ When Jesus therefore saw her weeping and the Jews also weeping who came with her, he became enraged in the Spirit and stirred himself up ³⁴ and said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see. ³⁵ Jesus wept. ³⁶ Then the Jews said, Behold how he loved him! ³⁷ And some of them said, Could not this man, who opened the eyes of the blind, have also caused that this man should not have died? ³⁸ Jesus therefore, becoming enraged again in himself, came to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it. ³⁹ Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that had died, said unto him, Lord, by this time he stinks, for he has been dead four days. ⁴⁰ Jesus said unto her, Did I not say unto thee that if thou wouldest believe thou shalt see the glory of God? ⁴¹ Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus, lifting up his eyes, said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. ⁴² And I knew that thou hearest me always, but because of the people who stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me. ⁴³ And having said these things, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. ⁴⁴ Then he that had been dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus said unto them, Loose him, and let him go. ⁴⁵ ¶ Then many of the Jews who had come to Mary and had seen what Jesus did believed on him. ⁴⁶ But some of them went unto the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. ⁴⁷ Then the high priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, What shall we do? for this man does many signs. ⁴⁸ If we let him thus alone, everyone will believe on him, and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and the nation. ⁴⁹ And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all ⁵⁰ nor consider that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation be lost. ⁵¹ And this he spoke not of himself; but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation; ⁵² and not for that nation only, but that he should also gather together in one the sons of God that were scattered abroad. ⁵³ So that from that day forth they took counsel together to kill him. ⁵⁴ Jesus therefore no longer walked openly among the Jews, but went from there unto a country near to the wilderness into a city called Ephraim and there continued with his disciples. ⁵⁵ And the passover of the Jews was now at hand, and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover to purify themselves; ⁵⁶ and they sought for Jesus and spoke among themselves as they stood in the temple, What think ye, that he will not come to the feast? ⁵⁷ Now both the high priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that if anyone knew where he was he should show it, that they might take him.

¹ ¶ And it came to pass after these things that it was told Joseph, Behold, thy father is sick; and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.

¹ ¶ In those days Hezekiah became sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah, the son of Amoz, came to him and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thy house in order, for thou shalt die, and not live. ² Then he turned his face to the wall and prayed unto the LORD, saying, ³ I beseech thee, O LORD, remember how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept with great weeping. ⁴ And before Isaiah had gone out into the middle of the court, the word of the LORD came to him, saying, ⁵ Turn again and tell Hezekiah, prince of my people, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David, thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears; behold, I will heal thee; on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD. ⁶ And I will add unto thy days fifteen years, and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city for my own sake and for my slave David’s sake. ⁷ And Isaiah said, Take a lump of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered. ⁸ And Hezekiah had said unto Isaiah, What shall be the sign that the LORD will heal me and that I shall go up into the house of the LORD the third day? ⁹ And Isaiah said, This sign shalt thou have of the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing that he has spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees or go back ten degrees? ¹⁰ And Hezekiah answered, It is an easy thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees, but not for the shadow to return backward ten degrees. ¹¹ Then Isaiah, the prophet, cried unto the LORD, and he caused the shadow to return by the degrees by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. ¹² ¶ At that time Berodachbaladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and presents unto Hezekiah, for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick.

¹⁷ And he left them and went out of the city into Bethany, and he lodged there.

¹ ¶ And when they came near to Jerusalem unto Bethphage and Bethany at the mount of Olives, he sends forth two of his disciples

³⁸ ¶ Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. ³⁹ And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard his word. ⁴⁰ But Martha was cumbered about in much serving and came to him and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Bid her therefore that she help me. ⁴¹ And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things; ⁴² but only one thing is necessary, and Mary has chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

²⁰ and there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores ²¹ and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. ²² And it came to pass that the beggar died and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom; the rich man also died and was buried; ²³ and in Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and saw Abraham afar off and Lazarus in his bosom. ²⁴ And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. ²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime didst receive thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted here, and thou art tormented.

³ Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.

⁵ Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. ⁶ When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.

¹¹ Having said that he said unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleeps, but I go that I may awake him out of sleep.

¹ ¶ Jesus, therefore, six days before the passover, came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. ² There they made him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those that sat at the table with him.

⁹ A great multitude of the Jews therefore knew that he was there; and they came not only for Jesus’ sake, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.

¹⁷ The multitude, therefore, that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave and raised him from the dead, bore witness.

³⁷ And it came to pass in those days that she was sick and died, whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber.

⁶ ¶ Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, ⁷ a woman came unto him having an alabaster box of very precious ointment and poured it on his head as he sat at the table.

³ And he being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, sitting at the table, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and breaking the alabaster, she poured it over his head.

³⁷ And, behold, a woman who had been a sinner in the city, when she knew that Jesus sat at food in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, ³⁸ and stood at his feet behind him weeping and began to wash his feet with tears and wiped them with the hairs of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment.

³ Then Mary took a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.

² And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou dost love, and go to the land of Moriah and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

³ to the saints that are in the earth and to the excellent: all my delight is towards them.

³⁶ Then the Jews said, Behold how he loved him!

²³ And one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was seated at the table beside Jesus.

²⁶ For he longed after you all and was full of heaviness, because ye had heard that he had been sick ²⁷ For indeed he was sick near unto death, but God had mercy on him and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.

²⁰ Erastus remained at Corinth, but Trophimus I have left at Miletum sick.

⁶ for whom the Lord loves, he chastens and scourges everyone whom he receives as a son. ⁷ If ye endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father does not chasten?

¹⁴ Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}; and let them pray for him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; ¹⁵ and the prayer of faith shall cause the one who is sick to be saved, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, he shall be forgiven them.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten; be zealous therefore, and repent.

³⁹ And when he was come in, he said unto them, Why make ye this ado and weep? The damsel is not dead, but sleeps. ⁴⁰ And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he took the father and the mother of the damsel and those that were with him and entered in where the damsel was lying. ⁴¹ And taking the damsel by the hand, he said unto her, Talitha cumi, which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. ⁴² And straightway the damsel arose and walked, for she was twelve years old. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.

¹¹ This beginning of the signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee and manifested forth his glory, and his disciples believed on him.

²³ that everyone should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that does not honour the Son does not honour the Father who has sent him.

⁵⁴ Jesus answered, If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing; it is my Father that glorifies me, of whom ye say that he is your God;

³ Jesus answered, Neither has this man sinned nor his parents, but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

²⁴ Then they called again the man that had been blind and said unto him, Give glory to God; we know that this man is a sinner.

⁴⁰ Jesus said unto her, Did I not say unto thee that if thou wouldest believe thou shalt see the glory of God?

²⁸ Father, clarify thy name. Then there came a voice from the heaven, saying, I have clarified it and will clarify it again.

³¹ ¶ Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man clarified, and God is clarified in him. ³² If God is clarified in him, God shall also clarify him in himself and shall straightway clarify him.

¹ ¶ Jesus spoke these words and lifted up his eyes to heaven and said, Father, the hour is come; clarify thy Son, that thy Son may also clarify thee,

⁵ And now, O Father, clarify thou me with thine own self with that clarity which I had with thee before the world was.

¹⁰ And all my things are thine, and thine are mine; and I have been clarified in them.

¹¹ I say then, Have they stumbled in such a manner that they should fall completely? No, in no wise; but rather through their fall, saving health is come unto the Gentiles to provoke them unto jealousy.

¹¹ being filled with fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

²⁰ according to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life or by death. ²¹ who by him do believe God, who raised him up from the dead and has given him glory: that your faith and hope might be in God.

¹¹ If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God; if anyone ministers, let them do it according to the virtue which God gives, that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus, the Christ, unto whom is glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

¹⁴ If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are ye; for the glory and the Spirit of God rests upon you; certainly on their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.

⁸ His disciples said unto him, Rabbi, the Jews of late sought to stone thee, and goest thou there again?

⁹ ¶ As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. ¹⁰ If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love, even as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. ¹¹ These things I have spoken unto you that my joy may abide in you and that your joy might be fulfilled. ¹² This is my commandment, That ye love one another as I have loved you. ¹³ Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his soul for his friends.

²⁷ for the Father himself loves you because ye have loved me and have believed that I came out from God.

²⁶ And I have manifested unto them thy name and will manifest it still, that the love with which thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

¹⁴ And Abraham called the name of that place The LORD Shall See (YHWH-jireh). Therefore it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.

²⁴ And he turned himself about from them and wept and returned to them again and spoke with them and took Simeon from them and bound him before their eyes.

²⁹ And he lifted up his eyes and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother’s son, and said, Is this your younger brother, of whom ye spoke unto me? And he said, God be merciful unto thee, my son. ³⁰ Then Joseph made haste; for his bowels did yearn upon his brother; and he sought where to weep, and he entered into his chamber and wept there. ³¹ And he washed his face and went out and refrained himself and said, Serve bread.

¹ ¶ And he commanded the steward of his house, saying, Fill these men’s sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put every man’s money in his sack’s mouth; ² and put my cup, the silver cup, in the sack’s mouth of the youngest, with the money of his wheat. And he did according to the word that Joseph had spoken. ³ As soon as the morning was light, the men were sent away, they and their asses. ⁴ And when they were gone out of the city, and not yet far off, Joseph said unto his steward, Rise up, follow after those men; and when thou dost overtake them, say unto them, Why have ye rewarded evil for good? ⁵ Is this not the one in which my lord drinks and in which indeed he divines? Ye have done evil in so doing.

¹ ¶ Then Joseph could not refrain himself before all those that stood by him, and he cried, Cause everyone to go out from me. And no one stood with him while Joseph made himself known unto his brethren. ² And he wept aloud; and the Egyptians and the house of Pharaoh heard. ³ And Joseph said unto his brethren, I am Joseph; does my father yet live? And his brethren could not answer him, for they were terrified at his presence. ⁴ Then Joseph said unto his brethren, Now come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt. ⁵ Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves that ye sold me here, for God sent me before you for life.

¹⁸ ¶ And therefore will the LORD wait for you, that he may have mercy on you, and therefore will he be exalted having mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all those that wait for him.

⁸ For my thoughts are not as your thoughts, neither are your ways as my ways, saith the LORD. ⁹ For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts more than your thoughts.

²² And, behold, a woman of Canaan having come out of the same borders cried unto him, saying, Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me; my daughter is sick, possessed by a demon. ²³ But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away, for she cries out after us. ²⁴ But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. ²⁵ Then she came and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. ²⁶ But he answered and said, It is not good to take the children’s bread and to cast it to the little dogs. ²⁷ And she said, Yes, Lord, yet the little dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table. ²⁸ Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith; be it unto thee even as thou desire. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

⁵¹ ¶ And it came to pass when the time was come that he should be received up, he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem

⁴⁰ and went away again beyond Jordan into the place where John at first baptized, and there he abode. ⁴¹ And many came unto him and said, John certainly did no sign, but all the things that John spoke of this man were true. ⁴² And many believed in him there.

³⁶ ¶ And some days after, Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord and see how they do.

²² And now, behold, I go bound of the Spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there, ²³ except that the Holy Spirit witnesses in every city, saying that prisons and tribulations await me. ²⁴ But none of these things move me, neither do I count my life dear unto myself, only that I might finish my course with joy and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

¹ To the Overcomer,
A Psalm of David. ¶ I put my trust in the LORD put I: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain? ² For, behold, the wicked bend their bow; they make ready their arrow upon the string that they may secretly shoot at the upright in heart. ³ The foundations shall be destroyed. What has the righteous done?

²¹ ¶ From that time forth Jesus began to declare unto his disciples, how it was expedient for him to go unto Jerusalem and to suffer many things of the elders and the princes of the priests and of the scribes and to be killed and to be raised again the third day. ²² Then Peter, taking him aside, began to rebuke him, saying, Lord, be it far from thee; in no wise shall this happen unto thee. ²³ But he turned and said unto Peter, Remove thyself from before me, Satan; thou art an offence unto me, for thou dost not understand that which is of God, but that which is of men.

⁷ and greetings in the markets and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

⁵⁹ Then they took up stones to cast at him, but Jesus concealed himself and went out of the temple, and going through the midst of them, went away.

³¹ Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.

³⁹ ¶ Therefore they sought again to take him, but he escaped out of their hand

²⁴ But none of these things move me, neither do I count my life dear unto myself, only that I might finish my course with joy and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

¹² And when we heard these things, both we and those of that place besought him not to go up to Jerusalem. ¹³ Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

²³ Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.

⁹ They shall come with weeping, but with mercies I will cause them to return; I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, in which they shall not stumble; for I shall be a father to Israel, and Ephraim shall be my firstborn.

³¹ ¶ The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Go out and depart from here, for Herod will kill thee. ³² And he said unto them, Go ye and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out demons, and I do cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I shall be perfected. ³³ Nevertheless I must walk today and tomorrow and the day following, for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.

⁴ It is expedient that I do the works of him that sent me while it is day; the night comes, when no one can work.

³⁵ Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the Light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you; for he that walks in darkness does not know where he goes.

² When the wicked, even my enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

¹⁸ But the path of the just is as the light of the morning star, that shines more and more until the day is perfect. ¹⁹ The way of the wicked is as darkness; they do not know in what they stumble.

¹⁴ The wise man has his eyes in his head, but the fool walks in darkness: And I myself also understood that one event happens to the one and to the other.

¹⁶ Give glory to the LORD your God before he causes darkness and before your feet stumble in mountains of darkness, and while ye look for light, he turns it into the shadow of death and makes it gross darkness.

¹¹ But the LORD is with me as a powerful giant; therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper; they shall have everlasting confusion which shall never be forgotten.

¹⁰ He that loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no occasion of stumbling in him. ¹¹ But he that hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness and does not know where he goes, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

¹¹ And the LORD would speak unto Moses face to face, as anyone would speak unto their friend. And he would turn again into the camp, but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart out of the tabernacle.

¹⁶ And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, and this people shall rise up and fornicate after the gods of the strangers of the land where they go when they shall be among them and will forsake me and break my covenant which I have made with them.

⁷ Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel and didst give it to the seed of Abraham, thy friend, for ever?

⁸ But thou, Israel, my slave, Jacob whom I have chosen, art the seed of Abraham my friend.

² And many of those that sleep in the dust of the earth shall be awakened, some for eternal life, and some for shame and everlasting confusion.

²⁴ he said unto them, Give place, for the maid is not dead, but sleeps. And they laughed him to scorn.

⁵² and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who slept arose

³⁹ And when he was come in, he said unto them, Why make ye this ado and weep? The damsel is not dead, but sleeps.

²⁹ He that has the bride is the bridegroom, but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice; this my joy therefore is fulfilled.

²⁵ Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour shall come, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they that hear shall live. ²⁶ For as the Father has life in himself, so has he given to the Son to have life in himself ²⁷ and has also given him power and authority to execute judgment because he is the Son of man. ²⁸ Marvel not at this, for an hour shall come when all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, ²⁹ and those that have done good shall come forth unto the resurrection of life; but those that have done evil, unto the resurrection of judgment.

¹³ But Jesus had spoken of his death, and they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.

⁴³ And having said these things, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. ⁴⁴ Then he that had been dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus said unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

¹³ Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his soul for his friends. ¹⁴ Ye are my friends if ye do whatsoever I command you. ¹⁵ From now on I do not call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his lord does; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

⁶⁰ And he kneeled down and cried with a loud voice, Lord, impute not this sin to their charge. And having said this, he fell asleep in the Lord.

¹⁸ Then those also who are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.

³⁴ Watch diligently, and sin not; for some do not know God: I speak this to your shame.

⁵¹ ¶ Behold, I show you a mystery: We shall all indeed be raised, but we shall not all be changed;

¹⁴ Therefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest and arise from the dead, and the Christ shall shine upon thee.

¹⁴ For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so those who sleep in Jesus will God also bring with him. ¹⁵ For this, we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not precede those who are asleep.

¹⁰ who died for us, that whether we watch or sleep, we should live together with him.

²³ And that the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness, and he was called the Friend of God.

²⁴ Then the Jews came round about him and said unto him, Until when wilt thou hold our soul in suspense? If thou art the Christ, tell us plainly.

²⁵ I have spoken these things unto you in proverbs, but the hour comes when I shall no longer speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall show you plainly of the Father.

²⁹ His disciples said unto him, Behold, now thou speakest plainly and speakest no proverb.

²⁴ And the LORD appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father; fear not, for I am with thee and will bless thee and multiply thy seed for my slave Abraham’s sake.

⁵ And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house and in the field.

¹⁴ he suffered no man to do them wrong; yea, he chastened kings for their sakes:

¹⁵ If anyone should conspire against thee, it shall be without me, whosoever would conspire against thee shall fall before thee.

⁸ ¶ Thus has the LORD said, As when one has found new wine in a cluster and says, Do not destroy it; for a blessing is in it; so will I do for my slaves’ sakes, that I may not destroy them all.

⁴ When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

³⁵ Jesus wept. ³⁶ Then the Jews said, Behold how he loved him!

³⁰ Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.

¹⁰ Believest thou not that I am in the Father and the Father in me? The words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself; but the Father that dwells in me, he does the works. ¹¹ Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me, or else believe me for the very works’ sake.

¹⁹ And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified in the truth.

¹⁵ For we suffer all these things for your sakes that the grace abounding through many may in the thanksgiving redound to the glory of God.

¹⁰ Therefore, I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they may also obtain the saving health which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

¹³ These things I have written unto you that believe in the name of the Son of God, that ye may know that ye have eternal life and that ye may believe in the name of the Son of God.

³ Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;

³⁵ Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.

³³ And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison and to death.

³⁷ Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my soul for thy sake.

⁵ Thomas said unto him, Lord, we know not where thou goest; how, therefore, can we know the way?

²⁴ But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. ²⁵ The other disciples, therefore, said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Unless I shall see in his hands the print of the nails and put my finger into the print of the nails and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. ²⁶ ¶ And again eight days later, his disciples were within and Thomas with them; then Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst and said, Peace be unto you. ²⁷ Then he said to Thomas, Reach here thy finger and behold my hands and reach here thy hand and thrust it into my side and be not unbelieving, but faithful. ²⁸ And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. ²⁹ Jesus said unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed; blessed are those that have not seen and yet have believed.

² Simon Peter and Thomas, called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee and the sons of Zebedee and two other of his disciples were together.

¹³ And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where Peter and James and John and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James were.

² After two days he shall give us life: in the third day he will resurrect us, and we shall live in his sight.

¹⁹ Jesus answered and said unto them, Dissolve this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

³⁹ Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that had died, said unto him, Lord, by this time he stinks, for he has been dead four days.

²⁷ because thou wilt not leave my soul in Hades, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. ²⁸ Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. ²⁹ Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. ³⁰ Therefore being a prophet and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne; ³¹ he, seeing this before, spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that his soul was not left in Hades, neither did his flesh see corruption.

¹³ ¶ And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was about sixty furlongs from Jerusalem.

¹⁹ So when they had rowed about twenty-five or thirty furlongs, they saw Jesus walking upon the sea and drawing nigh unto the ship, and they were afraid.

²⁰ And the winepress was trodden outside the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the bits of the horses, for a thousand six hundred furlongs.

¹⁶ And the city lies foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth; and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs; and the length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.

³⁵ And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted, and he said, For I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning. Thus his father wept for him.

² Then David said, I will show mercy unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed mercy unto me. And David sent to comfort him by the hand of his slaves for his father. And David’s slaves came into the land of the sons of Ammon.

²¹ Zabad, his son, Shuthelah, his son, Ezer, and Elead, whom the men of Gath that were born in that land slew because they came down to take away their livestock. ²² And Ephraim, their father, mourned many days, and his brethren came to comfort him.

¹¹ ¶ Now three friends of Job, Eliphaz, the Temanite, Bildad, the Shuhite, and Zophar, the Naamathite, when they heard of all this evil that had come upon him, each one came from his own place; for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.

¹¹ Then all his brethren came unto him and all his sisters and all those that had been of his acquaintance before and ate bread with him in his house; and they condoled him and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him; each one also gave him an ewe, and an earring of gold.

² It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting, for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.

¹⁹ These two things are come unto thee; who shall be sorry for thee? desolation, and destruction, and the famine, and the sword. Who shall comfort thee?

⁵ For thus hath the LORD said, Do not enter into the house of mourning, neither go to lament nor comfort them: for I have taken away my peace from this people, said the LORD, even mercy and compassion. ⁶ Both the great and the small shall die in this land: they shall not be buried, neither shall men lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them: ⁷ neither shall they break the bread of mourning for them, to comfort themselves for their death; neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.

² Beth She weeps sore in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks; among all her lovers she has none to comfort her; all her friends have dealt treacherously with her; they are become her enemies.

⁹ Teth Her filthiness is in her skirts; she did not remember her latter end; therefore she came down surprisingly; she has no comforter. O LORD, behold my affliction, for the enemy has magnified himself.

¹⁶ Ain For these things I weep; my eyes, my eyes stream with water because the comforter that gives rest unto my soul has left me; my sons are desolate because the enemy prevailed.

²¹ Schin They have heard that I sigh; and there is no comforter for me; all my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that thou hast done it. Thou hast brought the day that thou hast spoken of, but they shall be like unto me.

¹³ Mem What witness shall I take to thee? Or unto whom shall I liken thee, O daughter of Jerusalem? Unto whom shall I compare thee, that I may comfort thee, O virgin daughter of Zion? for thy breach is as great as the sea: who shall heal thee?

³¹ Then the Jews who were with her in the house and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goes unto the grave to weep there.

¹⁵ Rejoice with those that rejoice and weep with those that weep.

⁴ who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

¹⁸ Therefore comfort one another with these words.

¹¹ ¶ Therefore comfort and edify one another, even as ye do.

¹ ¶ Then shall the kingdom of the heavens be likened unto ten virgins who, taking their lamps, went forth to meet the bridegroom.

⁶ And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom comes; go ye out to meet him.

³⁰ (Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.)

²⁵ And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshipped him.

¹⁵ And from there, when the brethren heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Appii Forum and The Three Taverns whom when Paul saw, he thanked God and took courage.

¹⁷ then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

¹⁸ And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? Art thou come unto me to call my iniquity to remembrance and to cause my son to die?

¹⁹ And they spoke against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?

⁴¹ And they turned back and tempted God and limited the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁸ ¶ While he spoke these things unto them, behold, a certain ruler came and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead; but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.

⁶ Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself, for I am not worthy that thou should enter under my roof; ⁷ therefore neither did I think myself worthy to come unto thee but say the word, and my slave shall be healed. ⁸ For I also am a man set under authority, having soldiers under me, and I say unto one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my slave, Do this, and he does it. ⁹ When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him and turned about and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you that not even in Israel have I found such great faith. ¹⁰ And those that had been sent, returning to the house, found the slave that had been sick whole.

¹³ And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said unto her, Weep not. ¹⁴ And he came and touched the bier, and those that bore him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. ¹⁵ And he that was dead sat up and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.

⁴⁹ While he yet spoke, there came one from the ruler of the synagogue’s house, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master. ⁵⁰ But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not; only believe, and she shall be made whole. ⁵¹ And when he came into the house, he allowed no one to go in except Peter and James and John and the father and the mother of the maiden. ⁵² And all wept and bewailed her, but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleeps. ⁵³ And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. ⁵⁴ And he put them all out and took her by the hand and called, saying, Maid, arise. ⁵⁵ Then her spirit returned, and she arose straightway, and he commanded to give her food.

⁴⁷ When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him and besought him that he would come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. ⁴⁸ Then Jesus said unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe. ⁴⁹ The nobleman said unto him, Sir, come down before my child dies.

³² Then when Mary was come where Jesus was and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother would not have died.

³⁷ And some of them said, Could not this man, who opened the eyes of the blind, have also caused that this man should not have died?

⁸ Ask of me, and I shall give thee the Gentiles for thine inheritance and unto the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

¹⁸ And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

²³ And Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe this, all things are possible to him that believes.

³⁵ The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand.

²² For the Father judges no man but has committed all judgment unto the Son ²³ that everyone should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that does not honour the Son does not honour the Father who has sent him. ²⁴ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that hears my word and believes him that sent me has eternal life and shall not come into judgment but has passed from death unto life. ²⁵ Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour shall come, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they that hear shall live. ²⁶ For as the Father has life in himself, so has he given to the Son to have life in himself ²⁷ and has also given him power and authority to execute judgment because he is the Son of man.

³¹ Now we know that God does not hear sinners, but if anyone should fear God and do his will, him he will hear.

⁴¹ Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus, lifting up his eyes, said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. ⁴² And I knew that thou hearest me always, but because of the people who stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.

² as thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

¹⁷ By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac, and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, ¹⁸ of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called, ¹⁹ accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence he also received him in a figure.

¹⁵ As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake with thy likeness.

¹⁴ Like sheep they are laid in Sheol; death shall feed on them, and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning, and their beauty shall be consumed in the grave from their dwelling. ¹⁵ ¶ Surely God will ransom my soul from the hand of Sheol when he shall take me. Selah.

⁸ He will destroy death forever; and the Lord GOD shall wipe away every tear from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people he shall take away from off all the earth: for the LORD has determined it.

¹⁹ Thy dead shall live, and together with my body they shall arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the covering of light, and the earth shall cast out the dead.

¹ ¶ And the hand of the LORD was upon me and took me out in the Spirit of the LORD and set me down in the midst of a field which was full of bones, ² and caused me to pass by them round about; and, behold, there were very many upon the face of the field; and they were very dry. ³ And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest. ⁴ Then he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones hear the word of the LORD. ⁵ Thus hath the Lord GOD said unto these bones: Behold, I will cause spirit to enter into you, and ye shall live: ⁶ And I will lay nerves upon you and will bring up flesh upon you and cover you with skin and put spirit in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the LORD. ⁷ So I prophesied as I was commanded, and as I prophesied, there was a thunder, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone. ⁸ And I beheld, and behold nerves upon them and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above: but there was no spirit in them. ⁹ Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the spirit, prophesy, son of man, and say to the spirit, Thus hath the Lord GOD said: Come from the four winds, O spirit, and breathe upon these slain, and they shall live. ¹⁰ And I prophesied as he commanded me, and the spirit entered into them, and they lived and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.

² And many of those that sleep in the dust of the earth shall be awakened, some for eternal life, and some for shame and everlasting confusion. ³ And those that understand shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and those that teach righteousness to the multitude as the stars in perpetual eternity.

¹⁴ I will ransom them from the power of Sheol; I will redeem them from death; O death, I will be thy end; O Sheol, I will be thy destruction. Repentance shall be hid from my eyes.

²³ ¶ The same day the Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection, and asked him, ²⁴ saying, Master, Moses said, If a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up seed unto his brother. ²⁵ Now there were with us seven brothers, and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no seed, left his wife unto his brother; ²⁶ likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh. ²⁷ And last of all the woman died also. ²⁸ Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her. ²⁹ Then Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures nor the power of God. ³⁰ For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. ³¹ But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which is spoken unto you by God, who saith, ³² I AM the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

¹⁴ and thou shalt be blessed, for they cannot recompense thee; for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

³¹ because he has appointed a day, in which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he has ordained; of whom he has given assurance unto all men in that he has raised him from the dead. ³² ¶ And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked; and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.

⁶ ¶ But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee, and of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question. ⁷ And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the multitude was divided. ⁸ For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit; but the Pharisees confess both. ⁹ And there arose a great cry; and the scribes that were of the Pharisees’ part arose and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man, but if a spirit or an angel has spoken to him, let us not fight against God.

¹⁵ and have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

³⁵ women received their dead raised to life again, and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance that they might obtain a better resurrection;

²⁵ For I know that my redeemer lives and that he shall rise at the latter day over the dust; ²⁶ and afterward from this, my stricken skin and from my own flesh, I must see God: ²⁷ whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another, though my kidneys be consumed within me.

⁹ For with thee is the fountain of life; in thy light shall we see light.

¹⁶ O Lord, even unto all those that shall live, in these fifteen years I shall proclaim the life of my spirit in them and how thou caused me to sleep, and afterwards hast given me life.

⁴³ And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.

⁴ In him was life, and the life was the light of men.

³⁶ He that believes in the Son has eternal life, and he that does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.

²¹ For as the Father raises up the dead and gives them life; even so the Son gives life unto whom he will.

²⁶ For as the Father has life in himself, so has he given to the Son to have life in himself

³⁵ And Jesus said unto them, I AM the bread of life; he that comes to me shall never hunger, and he that believes in me shall never thirst.

³⁹ And this is the Father’s will who has sent me, that of all whom he has given me I should lose nothing but should raise it up again in the last day. ⁴⁰ And this is the will of him that sent me, That every one who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I will raise him up in the last day.

⁴⁴ No one can come to me unless the Father who has sent me draws him, and I will raise him up in the last day.

⁶ Jesus said unto him, I AM the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes unto the Father, but by me.

¹⁹ Yet a little while, and the world shall see me no more, but ye shall see me; because I live, ye shall live also.

¹⁵ and killed the Author of life, whom God has raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses.

¹⁷ ¶ as it is written, As a father of many Gentiles have I placed thee before God, whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which are not as those that are.

¹⁷ For if by one offense, death reigned because of one man; much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of gifts and of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus the Christ. ¹⁸ Therefore, in the same manner that by the iniquity of one guilt came upon all men unto condemnation, even so by the righteousness of one, grace came upon all men unto justification of life. ¹⁹ For as by one man’s disobedience, many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

² For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ, Jesus, has made me free from the law of sin and death.

¹⁰ ¶ But if Christ is in you, the body is truly dead because of sin, but the Spirit is alive because of righteousness. ¹¹ And if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he that raised up the Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwells in you.

³⁸ Therefore I am certain that neither death nor life nor angels nor principalities nor powers nor things present nor things to come ³⁹ nor height nor depth nor any creature shall be able to separate us from the charity of God, which is in Christ, Jesus our Lord.

²⁰ ¶ But now Christ is risen from the dead and become the firstfruits of those that slept. ²¹ For since by a man came death, by a man came also the resurrection of the dead. ²² For as in Adam all die, even so in the Christ shall all be made alive. ²³ But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward, those that are Christ’s at his coming. ²⁴ Then comes the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father, when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. ²⁵ For he must reign until he has put all enemies under his feet. ²⁶ The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

²⁹ Else what shall they do who are baptized for the dead, if the dead do not rise at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?

⁴³ it is sown in dishonour, it shall be raised with glory; it is sown in weakness, it shall be raised with power; ⁴⁴ it is sown a natural body, it shall be raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. ⁴⁵ And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a life-giving Spirit. ⁴⁶ Howbeit the spiritual is not first, but the natural; and afterward, that which is spiritual. ⁴⁷ The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord of heaven. ⁴⁸ As is the earthy, such are those also that are earthy; and as is the heavenly, such also are those that are heavenly. ⁴⁹ And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. ⁵⁰ Now this I say, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither does corruption inherit incorruption. ⁵¹ ¶ Behold, I show you a mystery: We shall all indeed be raised, but we shall not all be changed; ⁵² in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet, for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised without corruption, and we shall be changed. ⁵³ For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. ⁵⁴ So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the word that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. ⁵⁵ O death, where is thy sting? O Hades, where is thy victory? ⁵⁶ The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. ⁵⁷ But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁴ knowing that he who raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise us up also by Jesus and shall present us with you.

¹ ¶ For we know that if the earthly house of this our habitation were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. ² For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven, ³ if so be that we shall be found clothed and not naked. ⁴ For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened, for we do not desire to be unclothed, but to be clothed upon with life swallowing up that which is mortal. ⁵ Now he that has made us for this same thing is God, who has likewise given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. ⁶ Therefore we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord ⁷ (for we walk by faith, not by sight). ⁸ We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

²³ For I am in a strait between the two, having a desire to depart and to be with Christ, which is far better:

¹⁰ That I may know him and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death,

²⁰ For our citizenship is in heaven, from where we also look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: ²¹ Who shall transform our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto the body of his glory, according to the working by which he is also able to subdue all things unto himself.

³ For ye are dead and your life is hid with the Christ in God. ⁴ When Christ, who is our life, shall be manifested, then shall ye also be manifested with him in glory.

¹⁴ For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so those who sleep in Jesus will God also bring with him.

¹³ These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but seeing them afar off and believing them and embracing them and confessing that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. ¹⁴ For those that say such things declare plainly that they seek their native country. ¹⁵ And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from which they came out, they might have had time to have returned. ¹⁶ But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one; therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.

¹ ¶ That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life ² (for the life is manifested, and we also saw it and bear witness and show unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father and appeared unto us);

¹¹ And this is the witness, that God has given eternal life to us, and this life is in his Son. ¹² He that has the Son has life; and he that does not have the Son of God does not have life.

⁵ But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.

¹⁰ And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and they shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. ¹¹ ¶ And I saw a great white throne and him that was seated upon it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and their place was not found. ¹² And I saw the dead, great and small, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened; which is the book of life; and the dead were judged by those things which were written in the books, according to their works. ¹³ And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and Hades delivered up the dead which were in them; and the judgment of each one was according to their works. ¹⁴ And Hades and death were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. ¹⁵ And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

⁴ And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and death shall be no more neither shall there be any more sorrow nor crying nor pain; for the former things are passed away.

¹ ¶ And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

¹⁷ And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that hears say, Come. And let him that is thirsty come; and whosoever will, let him take of the water of life freely.

²⁸ And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him; and Jesus said unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yes, Lord.

⁵³ Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

¹⁵ that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. ¹⁶ For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. ¹⁷ For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. ¹⁸ He that believes on him is not condemned, but he that does not believe is condemned already because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

¹⁴ but whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a fountain of water springing up into eternal life.

²⁴ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that hears my word and believes him that sent me has eternal life and shall not come into judgment but has passed from death unto life.

⁵⁰ This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that anyone may eat of it and not die. ⁵¹ I AM the living bread which came down from heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, they shall live for ever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

⁵⁴ Whosoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁵⁵ For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. ⁵⁶ He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. ⁵⁷ As the living Father has sent me, and I live by the Father, so he that eats me, he shall also live by me. ⁵⁸ This is the bread which came down from heaven; not as your fathers ate manna and are dead; he that eats of this bread shall live eternally.

⁵¹ ¶ Verily, verily, I say unto you, If anyone keeps my word, he shall not see death forever. ⁵² Then the Jews said unto him, Now we know that thou hast a demon. Abraham died and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keeps my word, he shall not taste death forever? ⁵³ Art thou greater than our father Abraham who died? and the prophets died; whom makest thou thyself?

³⁵ ¶ Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and finding him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe in the Son of God?

²⁸ and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall anyone pluck them out of my hand.

¹⁰ Believest thou not that I am in the Father and the Father in me? The words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself; but the Father that dwells in me, he does the works.

¹³ For if ye live according to the flesh, ye shall die; but if through the Spirit ye mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

¹⁰ ¶ He that believes in the Son of God has the witness of God in himself; he that does not believe God has made God a liar; because he does not believe the witness that God has testified of his Son.

¹ ¶ Behold, I send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me; and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, and the angel of the covenant, whom ye desire: behold, he comes, said the LORD of the hosts.

³ and said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?

¹⁶ And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

¹¹ For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.

¹⁹ ¶ And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another? ²⁰ When the men were come unto him, they said, John the Baptist has sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?

⁴⁹ Nathanael answered and said unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.

⁴² and said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy speech; for we have heard him ourselves and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

¹⁴ Then those men, as they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth the prophet that was to come into the world.

⁶⁹ And we believe and know that thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

³⁶ He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe in him? ³⁷ And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast seen him, and it is he that talks with thee. ³⁸ And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.

²⁸ And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. ²⁹ Jesus said unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed; blessed are those that have not seen and yet have believed. ³⁰ And Jesus truly did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book; ³¹ but these are written that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing ye might have life in his name.

³⁶ And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water; and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what hinders me to be baptized?

¹⁵ This is a faithful saying and worthy of acceptation by all, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am first. ¹⁶ But for this cause I was received unto mercy that in me first, Jesus Christ might show forth all clemency, for an example to those who should hereafter believe in him for eternal life.

¹ ¶ Whosoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God; and anyone that loves him that begat also loves him that is born of him.

²⁰ But we know that the Son of God is come and has given us understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

⁸ ¶ The voice of my beloved! behold, he comes leaping over the mountains, skipping over the hills. ⁹ My beloved is like a roe or a young hart; behold, he stands behind our wall; he looks through the windows, blossoming through the lattice. ¹⁰ My beloved spoke and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. ¹¹ For, behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone; ¹² the flowers appear on the earth; the time of the song is come, and the voice of the turtle dove has been heard in our land; ¹³ the fig tree has put forth her green figs, and the vines in blossom have given forth their fragrance. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away. ¹⁴ ¶ O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is beautiful.

¹⁰ In that day, saith the LORD of the hosts, each one of you shall call his neighbour under his vine and under his fig tree.

¹⁸ And he said, Go into the city to a certain man and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.

⁴⁹ Then Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Have confidence, rise; he calls thee.

¹⁴ And wherever he shall go in, say to the husband of the house, The Master says, Where is the guestchamber where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

¹¹ And ye shall say unto the husband of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber where I shall eat the passover lamb with my disciples?

⁴¹ He first found his own brother Simon and said unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

⁴⁵ Philip found Nathanael and said unto him, We have found him of whom Moses in the law and the prophets wrote: Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

³ To him the porter opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.

²⁰ Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him; but Mary sat still in the house.

¹³ Ye call me Master and Lord; and ye say well, for so I am.

¹⁶ Jesus said unto her, Mary! Turning herself around, she said unto him, Rabboni, which is to say, Master.

⁷ Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher’s coat unto him (for he was naked) and cast himself into the sea.

¹⁷ then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord. ¹⁸ Therefore comfort one another with these words.

¹² Therefore, lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees,

⁸ My heart has spoken unto me from thee, Seek my face. Thy face, O LORD, will I seek.

⁵⁹ ¶ I considered my ways and turned my feet unto thy testimonies. ⁶⁰ I made haste and did not delay to keep thy commandments.

²³ ¶ A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, and a word spoken in due season, how good it is!

¹⁷ ¶ Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

¹ ¶ By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loves; I sought him, but I did not find him. ² I will rise now and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loves; I sought him, but I did not find him. ³ The watchmen that go about the city found me, to whom I said, Have ye seen him whom my soul loves? ⁴ It was but a little that I passed from them that I found him whom my soul loves: I held him and would not let him go until I had brought him into my mother’s house and into the chamber of her that brought me into the light.

¹⁶ David, therefore, besought God for the child, and David fasted and went in and lay all night upon the earth. ¹⁷ And the elders of his house arose and went to him to raise him up from the earth, but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them. ¹⁸ And it came to pass on the seventh day that the child died. And the slaves of David feared to tell him that the child was dead, for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spoke unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice; how much more will it trouble him if we tell him that the child is dead?

¹⁹ and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them concerning their brother.

¹⁵ But he that is spiritual discerns all things, yet he is discerned by no one.

⁸ When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down on his knees before Jesus, saying, Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.

⁴¹ And, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a prince of the synagogue, and he fell down at Jesus’ feet and besought him that he would come into his house;

¹⁶ and fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks; and he was a Samaritan.

⁴⁹ The nobleman said unto him, Sir, come down before my child dies.

²¹ Then Martha said unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother would not have died.

⁸ And when he had taken the book, the four animals and the twenty-four elders fell on their faces before the Lamb, each one of them having harps, and golden vials full of incense, which are the prayers of saints.

¹⁴ And the four animals said, Amen. And the twenty-four elders fell on their faces and worshipped him that lives for ever and ever.

⁸ And I, John, saw these things and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things.

⁵ And looking round about on them with anger, being grieved for the blindness of their hearts, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out and his hand was restored whole as the other.

¹⁹ Answering, he said unto him, O unfaithful generation, how long shall I be with you? How long must I suffer you? Bring him unto me.

³³ And he takes with him Peter and James and John and began to be alarmed and to be anguished ³⁴ and said unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death; tarry ye here, and watch. ³⁵ And he went forward a little and fell on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.

³⁸ Jesus therefore, becoming enraged again in himself, came to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.

²⁷ ¶ Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour, but for this have I come in this hour.

²¹ When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit and testified and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

¹⁵ For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

⁷ Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, was heard because of his reverent fear; ⁸ although he was the Son of God, yet he learned obedience by the things which he suffered;

⁶ He is not here, for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

⁴⁷ And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.

⁶ But he said unto them, Do not be frightened; Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified; he is risen; he is not here; behold the place where they laid him.

³⁹ He said unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt and abode with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.

² Then she ran and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and said unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.

³⁰ Then Joseph made haste; for his bowels did yearn upon his brother; and he sought where to weep, and he entered into his chamber and wept there.

²⁵ Did I not weep for the one that was in trouble? Was not my soul grieved for the needy?

¹³ But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I humbled my soul with fasting, and my prayer rose up in my bosom. ¹⁴ I behaved myself as though he had been my friend or brother; I bowed down heavily, as one that mourns for his mother. ¹⁵ But in my adversity they rejoiced and gathered themselves together; yea, the smiters gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they tore me apart and did not cease:

¹³⁶ ¶ Rivers of waters ran down my eyes because they did not keep thy law.

³ He is despised and rejected among men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with weakness; and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

⁹ In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the Angel of his face saved them: with his love and with his clemency he redeemed them; and he bore them and carried them all the days of the age.

¹ ¶ Oh that my head were waters and my eyes a fountain of tears that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!

¹⁷ But if ye will not hear this, my soul shall weep in secret because of your pride; and weeping bitterly, my eyes shall be undone in tears because the LORD’s flock was carried away captive.

¹⁷ ¶ Therefore thou shalt say this word unto them: Let my eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease, for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous blow.

¹¹ ¶ And as they heard these things, he added and spoke a parable because he was near to Jerusalem and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately be manifested.

⁴¹ ¶ And when he was come near, he beheld the city and wept over it,

³³ ¶ When Jesus therefore saw her weeping and the Jews also weeping who came with her, he became enraged in the Spirit and stirred himself up

² that I have great sorrow and continual pain in my heart. ³ For I could wish that myself were anathema from Christ for my brethren, those who are my kinsmen according to the flesh,

¹⁶ For verily he did not take the angels, but he took the seed of Abraham. ¹⁷ Therefore in all things he should be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make atonement for the sins of the people.

²¹ He that has my commandments and keeps them, he it is that loves me; and he that loves me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him and will manifest myself to him. ²² Judas, not Iscariot, said unto him, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us and not unto the world?strong> ²³ Jesus answered and said unto him, He who loves me will keep my words, and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him and dwell with him.

¹⁵ ¶ So when they had dined, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He said unto him, Yes, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He said unto him, Feed my lambs. ¹⁶ He said to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He said unto him, Yes, Lord thou knowest that I love thee. He said unto him, Feed my sheep. ¹⁷ He said unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus said unto him, Feed my sheep.

⁸ I speak not as commanding, but by occasion of the diligence of others and to prove the sincerity of your charity. ⁹ For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor that ye through his poverty might be enriched.

² and walk in charity even as the Christ also has loved us and has given himself for us as an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.

²⁵ Husbands, love your wives even as the Christ also loved the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} and gave himself for her,

¹ ¶ Behold, what charity the Father has given us, that we should be called the sons of God; therefore the world does not know us, because it does not know him.

⁹ In this was the charity of God demonstrated in us, in that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. ¹⁰ In this does the charity consist, not because we had loved God, but because he loved us and has sent his Son to be the reconciliation for our sins.

⁵ and from Jesus, the Christ, who is the faithful witness and the first begotten of the dead and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us and washed us from our sins with his own blood

¹⁹ And they spoke against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? ²⁰ Behold, he smote the rock that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?

⁴⁰ and saying, Thou that wouldst destroy the temple and build it in three days, save thyself. If thou art the Son of God, come down from the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}. ⁴¹ Likewise also the princes of the priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, ⁴² He saved others; he cannot save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}, and we will believe him.

³² Let the Christ, King of Israel, descend now from the stake that we may see and believe. And those that were crucified {Gr. Stauroo – to hang on a stake} with him reviled him.

³⁵ And the people stood beholding. And the princes also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Christ, the chosen of God.

³⁹ And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou art the Christ, save thyself and us.

⁶ When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay ⁷ and said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which is by interpretation, Sent). Then he went and washed and came back seeing.

¹⁹ And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan.

²⁹ And he charged them and said unto them, I am to be gathered unto my people; bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron, the Hittite, ³⁰ in the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field of Ephron, the Hittite for a possession of a buryingplace. ³¹ There they buried Abraham and Sarah, his wife; there they buried Isaac and Rebekah, his wife; and there I buried Leah.

¹⁶ What hast thou here? or whom hast thou here that thou hast hewed thee out a sepulchre here as he that hews himself out a sepulchre on a high place or that graves a habitation for himself in a rock?

⁴ and the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry out because of all the abominations that are done in the midst of her.

⁶ Cry out therefore, thou son of man, with the breaking of thy loins; and with bitterness cry out before their eyes.

⁶⁰ and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock, and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre and departed.

⁶⁶ So they went and made the sepulchre secure, sealing the stone and setting a watch.

¹² And crying out in his spirit, he said, Why does this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.

⁴⁶ And he bought fine linen and took him down and wrapped him in the linen and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre.

² And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.

¹ ¶ The first of the sabbaths, Mary Magdalene came early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre and saw the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

¹⁹ in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread until thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken, for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

⁴ I am a stranger and a sojourner with you; give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.

⁷ none of them can by any means ransom his brother, nor give God an atonement for him;

⁹ that he should still live for ever and not see corruption.

¹⁴ Like sheep they are laid in Sheol; death shall feed on them, and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning, and their beauty shall be consumed in the grave from their dwelling.

³ And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?

¹⁷ ¶ Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.

²⁷ because thou wilt not leave my soul in Hades, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

³⁶ For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep and was gathered unto his fathers and saw corruption;

²¹ Who shall transform our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto the body of his glory, according to the working by which he is also able to subdue all things unto himself.

²⁰ ¶ And when they arose early in the morning and while they were going forth into the wilderness of Tekoa, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe the LORD your God, and ye shall be secure; believe his prophets, and ye shall be prospered.

² in this manner I beheld thee in holiness when I beheld thy power and thy glory.

¹⁶ Let thy work appear in thy slaves and thy glory upon their sons.

¹⁴ And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth.

²³ Jesus said unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. ²⁴ Martha said unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection in the last day. ²⁵ Jesus said unto her, I AM the resurrection and the life; he that believes in me, though he is dead, yet shall he live; ²⁶ and whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

⁴¹ Isaiah said these things when he saw his glory and spoke of him.

¹⁷ ¶ as it is written, As a father of many Gentiles have I placed thee before God, whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which are not as those that are. ¹⁸ Who believed to wait against all hope, that he might become the father of many Gentiles, according to that which had been spoken unto him, So shall thy seed be. ¹⁹ And he did not weaken in faith: he considered not his own body now dead when he was about one hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb; ²⁰ he doubted not the promise of God, with unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, ²¹ being fully persuaded that he was also powerful to do all that he had promised; ²² therefore, his faith was also attributed unto him as righteousness. ²³ ¶ Now it is not written for his sake alone that it was so reckoned to him, ²⁴ but for us also to whom it shall be so reckoned, that is, to those that believe in him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, ²⁵ who was delivered for our offenses and was raised again for our justification.

¹⁸ Therefore we all, beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord with uncovered face, are transformed from glory to glory into the same likeness, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

⁶ For the God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts to bring forth the light of the knowledge of the clarity of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

¹ A Song of degrees. ¶ Unto thee I lift up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.

²⁵ ¶ At that time Jesus answered and said, I praise thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and understanding and hast revealed them unto children.

²¹ In that same hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent and hast revealed them unto babes; even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.

¹³ And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God, reconcile me, a sinner.

²⁸ Father, clarify thy name. Then there came a voice from the heaven, saying, I have clarified it and will clarify it again. ²⁹ The people, therefore, that were present and heard it, said that it thundered; others said, An angel spoke to him. ³⁰ Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.

⁶ Be anxious for nothing, but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God.

²² ¶ Then was brought unto him one possessed with a demon, blind, and dumb, and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spoke and saw. ²³ And all the people were amazed and said, Is not this the son of David? ²⁴ But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow does not cast out demons but by Beelzebub the prince of the demons.

¹⁷ For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.

³⁸ For I came down from the heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me.

²⁸ Then Jesus cried out in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye know me, and ye know from where I come, but I have not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not. ²⁹ But I know him, for I am from him, and he has sent me.

¹⁶ And yet if I judge, my judgment is true, for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.

²⁹ And he that sent me is with me: the Father has not left me alone, for I always do those things that please him.

⁴² Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would surely love me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither did I come of myself, but he sent me.

²⁴ Then they called again the man that had been blind and said unto him, Give glory to God; we know that this man is a sinner. ²⁵ He answered and said, Whether he is a sinner or not, I do not know; one thing I know, that having been blind, now I see. ²⁶ Then said they to him again, What did he do to thee? How did he open thine eyes? ²⁷ He answered them, I have told you already, and ye have heard; what more would ye hear? Do ye also desire to be his disciples? ²⁸ Then they reviled him and said, Be thou his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. ²⁹ We know that God spoke unto Moses; as for this fellow, we do not know where he is from. ³⁰ The man answered and said unto them, Indeed this is a marvellous thing that ye do not know where he is from, and yet he has opened my eyes. ³¹ Now we know that God does not hear sinners, but if anyone should fear God and do his will, him he will hear. ³² Since the world began it has not been heard of that anyone opened the eyes of one that was born blind. ³³ If this man were not of God, he could do nothing. ³⁴ They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.

³⁶ do ye say of him whom the Father has sanctified and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest, because I said, I am the Son of God? ³⁷ If I do not do the works of my Father, do not believe me. ³⁸ But if I do, though ye do not believe me, believe the works that ye may know and believe that the Father is in me and I in him.

²² But I know that even now whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it unto thee.

⁴⁵ ¶ Then many of the Jews who had come to Mary and had seen what Jesus did believed on him. ⁴⁶ But some of them went unto the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. ⁴⁷ Then the high priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, What shall we do? for this man does many signs. ⁴⁸ If we let him thus alone, everyone will believe on him, and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and the nation. ⁴⁹ And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all ⁵⁰ nor consider that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation be lost.

²⁷ ¶ Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour, but for this have I come in this hour.

⁸ For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

²¹ that they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us, that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

²⁵ O righteous Father, the world has not known thee; but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.

³¹ but these are written that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing ye might have life in his name.

³ For that which was impossible to the law, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh

⁴ but when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

⁷ Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, was heard because of his reverent fear;

²⁵ Therefore he is able also to save to the uttermost those that come unto God by him, seeing he ever lives to make intercession for them.

¹⁴ ¶ And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

²¹ And he stretched himself upon the child three times and cried unto the LORD and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again. ²² And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah, and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.

³³ He went in therefore and shut the door upon both of them and prayed unto the LORD. ³⁴ Then he went up and lay upon the child and put his mouth upon his mouth and his eyes upon his eyes and his hands upon his hands; thus he stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm. ³⁵ Then he returned and walked through the house to and fro and went up and stretched himself upon him again; and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes. ³⁶ And he called Gehazi and said, Call this Shunammite. So he called her. And as she was coming in unto him, he said, Take up thy son.

⁴¹ And they feared exceedingly and said one to another, Who is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

⁶ Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none, but such as I have I give thee: in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

¹² ¶ And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own virtue or godliness we had made this man walk?

³⁴ And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, the Lord Jesus, the Christ, makes thee whole; arise and make thy bed. And he arose immediately.

⁴⁰ Then Peter put them all out and knelt down and prayed and turned to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes; and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

³ ¶ And God said, Let there be light, and there was light.

⁶ The LORD kills, and he gives life; he brings down to Sheol and raises up.

⁹ For he spoke, and it was done; he commanded, and it came into being.

⁴³ And he charged them straitly that no one should know it and commanded that something should be given her to eat.

¹⁵ And he that was dead sat up and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.

²⁵ Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour shall come, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they that hear shall live.

³⁰ I and my Father are one.

⁴⁰ And they took the body of Jesus and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as is the manner of the Jews to bury.

⁵ And he, stooping down and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet he did not go in.

⁷ and the napkin, that had been placed over his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.

⁹ And a certain young man named Eutychus sat in a window, being fallen into a deep sleep; and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep and fell down from the third loft and was taken up dead. ¹⁰ And Paul went down and fell on him and, embracing him, said, Trouble not yourselves, for his soul is still in him. ¹¹ When he therefore was come up again and had broken bread and eaten and talked a long while, even until day break, thus he departed. ¹² And they took the young man home alive and were greatly comforted.

¹⁸ and he that lives and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen, and have the keys of Hades and of death.

²³ ¶ Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, seeing the signs which he did.

³¹ And many of the people believed in him and said, When the Christ comes, will he do more signs than these which this man has done?

⁴¹ And many came unto him and said, John certainly did no sign, but all the things that John spoke of this man were true.

⁹ A great multitude of the Jews therefore knew that he was there; and they came not only for Jesus’ sake, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead. ¹⁰ So the princes of the priests took counsel that they might also put Lazarus to death ¹¹ because by reason of him many of the Jews went away and believed on Jesus.

¹⁷ The multitude, therefore, that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave and raised him from the dead, bore witness. ¹⁸ For this cause the multitude also met him, for they had heard that he had done this sign. ¹⁹ The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.

⁴² ¶ Nevertheless, even among the princes many believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue;

³⁰ And he said, No, father Abraham; but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. ³¹ And he said unto him, If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, even though one rose from the dead.

¹⁵ The man departed and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him whole. ¹⁶ And for this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus and sought to kill him: because he had done these things on a sabbath.

¹³ ¶ They brought to the Pharisees him that beforehand had been blind.

³⁷ ¶ But although he had done so many signs before them, yet they did not believe in him,

²⁵ Then someone came and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people.

² The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his anointed, saying, ³ let us break their bands asunder and cast away their cords from us. ⁴ He that sits in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

²² but I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother out of control shall be in danger of the judgment, and whosoever shall insult his brother shall be in danger of the council, but whosoever shall say, Thou art impious, shall be in danger of hell.

³ Then the princes of the priests and the scribes and the elders of the people assembled together in the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,

¹ ¶ When the morning was come, all the princes of the priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death, ² and when they had bound him, they led him away and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.

¹ ¶ Two days after was the passover and the days of unleavened bread; and the princes of the priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, that they might kill him.

² And the princes of the priests and scribes sought how they might kill him, but they feared the people.

⁵⁷ Now both the high priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that if anyone knew where he was he should show it, that they might take him.

¹⁹ The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.

⁵ ¶ And it came to pass on the next day that their princes and elders and scribes ⁶ and Annas, the high priest, and Caiaphas and John and Alexander and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest were gathered together at Jerusalem.

¹⁶ saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle has been done by them is manifest to all those that dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. ¹⁷ But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them that from now on they speak to no man in this name.

²⁷ For of a truth against thy holy servant Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together (in this city), ²⁸ to do that which thy hand and thy counsel had determined beforehand must be done.

²¹ And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning and taught. In the meantime, the prince of the priests came, and those that were with him, and called the council together and all the elders of the sons of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought.

²⁴ Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the princes of the priests heard these things, they were perplexed regarding what this would come to.

⁵⁰ a nation of fierce countenance, which shall not regard the person of the old nor show favour to the young; ⁵¹ and he shall eat the fruit of thy beast and the fruit of thy land until thou art destroyed, which also shall not leave thee either grain, wine, or oil, or the increase of thy cows or flocks of thy sheep until he has destroyed thee. ⁵² And he shall besiege thee in all thy gates until thy high and fenced walls come down, in which thou dost trust, throughout all thy land; and he shall besiege thee in all thy gates throughout all thy land, which the LORD thy God has given thee. ⁵³ And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters, which the LORD thy God has given thee, in the siege and in the straitness with which thine enemies shall distress thee. ⁵⁴ The man that is tender among you and very delicate, his eye shall be evil toward his brother and toward the wife of his bosom and toward the remnant of his children which he shall leave, ⁵⁵ so that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children whom he shall eat, because he shall have nothing left him in the siege and in the straitness with which thine enemies shall distress thee in all thy gates. ⁵⁶ The tender and delicate woman among you who would not venture to set the sole of her foot upon the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom and toward her son and toward her daughter ⁵⁷ and toward her young one that comes out from between her feet and toward her children which she shall bear, for she shall eat them for want of all things secretly in the siege and straitness with which thine enemy shall distress thee in thy gates, ⁵⁸ if thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book that thou may fear this glorious and fearful name; I AM thy God. ⁵⁹ Then the LORD will augment thy plagues wonderfully, and the plagues of thy seed, even great plagues and of long continuance, and evil sicknesses and of long continuance. ⁶⁰ Moreover, he will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of, and they shall cleave unto thee. ⁶¹ Also every sickness and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, the LORD will bring upon thee until thou art destroyed. ⁶² And ye shall be left few in number, whereas ye were as the stars of heaven for multitude, because thou would not hear the voice of the LORD thy God. ⁶³ And it shall come to pass that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good and to multiply you; so the LORD will rejoice over you to cause you to perish and to destroy you; and ye shall be plucked from off the land into which thou dost enter in to inherit it. ⁶⁴ And the LORD shall scatter thee among all the peoples from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone. ⁶⁵ Neither shalt thou find rest among these Gentiles, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest; but there the LORD shall give thee a trembling heart and failing of eyes and sorrow of soul; ⁶⁶ and thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear day and night and shalt have no assurance of thy life. ⁶⁷ In the morning thou shalt say, I wish it were evening, and in the evening thou shalt say, I wish it were morning! For the fear of thine heart with which thou shalt fear and for that which thine eyes shall see. ⁶⁸ And the LORD shall bring thee into Egypt again in ships by the way of which I spoke unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again; and there ye shall be sold unto your enemies for menslaves and womenslaves, and there shall be no one to buy you.

²⁶ And after the sixty-two weeks the Anointed One {Heb. Messiah} shall be killed and shall have nothing: (and the ruling people that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; whose end shall be as a flood, until at the end of the war it shall be cut off with desolation). ²⁷ In one week (they are now seventy) he shall confirm the covenant by many: and at the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and because of the many abominations, desolation shall come, even until complete destruction shall be poured out upon the abominable people.

⁷ ¶ Awake, O sword, upon the pastor and upon the man that is my fellow, said the LORD of the hosts; smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered; and I will turn my hand upon the little ones. ⁸ And it shall come to pass that in all the land, said the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off in her and shall be lost; but the third shall be left therein.

¹ ¶ Behold, the day of the LORD comes, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. ² For I will gather all the Gentiles against Jerusalem in battle, and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, but the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city.

⁴⁰ Therefore, when the lord of the vineyard comes, what will he do unto those husbandmen? ⁴¹ They say unto him, He will destroy those wicked men without mercy and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen who shall render him the fruits in their seasons. ⁴² Jesus said unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

⁷ But when the king heard of this, he became angry and sent forth his armies and destroyed those murderers and burned up their city.

³⁵ that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye murdered between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation. ³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that didst kill the prophets and stone those who are sent unto thee, how often I desired to gather thy children together, even as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! ³⁸ Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

²⁵ Then all the people answered and said, His blood be on us and on our children.

¹² Those along the way are those that hear; then comes the devil and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.

⁵² Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and those that were entering in, ye hindered.

⁴¹ ¶ And when he was come near, he beheld the city and wept over it, ⁴² saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. ⁴³ For the days shall come upon thee that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee and compass thee round and constrain thee on every side ⁴⁴ and shall cast thee down to the ground and thy children within thee, and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

²⁰ ¶ And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is near. ²¹ Then let those who are in Judaea flee to the mountains, and let those who are in the midst of it depart out, and let not those that are in the country enter thereinto. ²² For these are days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. ²³ But woe unto those that are with child and to those that give suck in those days! For there shall be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people. ²⁴ And they shall fall by the edge of the sword and shall be led away captive into all nations, and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

²⁸ But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. ²⁹ For, behold, the days are coming, in which they shall say, Blessed are the barren and the wombs that never bare and the breasts which never gave suck. ³⁰ Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us. ³¹ For if they do these things in the green tree, what shall be done in the dry?

⁷ The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

²⁸ saying, Did we not strictly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.

³⁸ And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men and let them alone; for if this counsellor or this work is of men, it will come to nought, ³⁹ but if it is of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest ye be found fighting against God. ⁴⁰ And they agreed with him; and when they had called the apostles and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus and let them go.

¹⁵ who killed both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets and have persecuted us, and they do not please God and are contrary to all men, ¹⁶ forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up the measure of their sins always, for the wrath of God has come upon them to the uttermost.

¹² ¶ Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

²⁰ Woe unto those that call evil good and good evil; that put darkness for light and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! ²¹ Woe unto those that are wise in their own eyes and prudent in their own sight! ²² Woe unto those that are mighty to drink wine and men of strength to mingle strong drink; ²³ who justify the wicked for bribes and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!

² Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came upon John the son of Zachariah in the wilderness.

⁴⁸ Have any of the princes or of the Pharisees believed on him? ⁴⁹ But this people who do not know the law are cursed.

⁵¹ And this he spoke not of himself; but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation;

¹³ ¶ and led him away to Annas first, for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was the high priest of that year and he sent him bound unto Caiaphas, the high priest. ¹⁴ Now Caiaphas was he who had given the counsel to the Jews that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.

⁶ and Annas, the high priest, and Caiaphas and John and Alexander and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest were gathered together at Jerusalem.

²⁰ Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the philosopher of this world? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

⁶ ¶ For we speak perfect wisdom of God, and not the wisdom of this age nor of the princes of this age, that come to nought,

¹⁸ ¶ Let no one deceive himself. If any one among you seems to be wise in this age, let them become a fool that they may be wise. ¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He takes the wise in their own craftiness.

⁴⁶ and said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day;

⁴⁸ If we let him thus alone, everyone will believe on him, and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and the nation.

¹⁴ Now Caiaphas was he who had given the counsel to the Jews that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.

¹² And from then on Pilate sought to release him, but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar’s friend; whosoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar.

⁸ And why not say (as we are slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say), Let us do evil, that good may come? The condemnation of whom is just.

³⁰ And thou shalt put in the pectoral of judgment Urim and Thummim, that they shall be upon Aaron’s heart when he goes in before the LORD; and Aaron shall always bear the judgment of the sons of Israel upon his heart before the LORD.

²⁸ Then the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee that thou hast smitten me these three times?

² and lifting up his eyes, he saw Israel abiding in his tents according to their tribes; and the Spirit of God came upon him.

¹⁴ Therefore, behold, I go now unto my people; come and I will indicate unto thee what this people shall do to thy people in the latter days. ¹⁵ ¶ And he took up his parable and said, Balaam, the son of Beor, has said, the man whose eyes are open has said, ¹⁶ he who has heard the words of God has said, and he who knows the knowledge of the most High, he who saw the vision of the Almighty, fallen, but having his eyes open: ¹⁷ I shall see him, but not now; I shall behold him, but not near by; there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel and shall smite the corners of Moab and destroy all the sons of Seth. ¹⁸ And Edom shall be taken; Seir also shall be taken by his enemies; and Israel shall do valiantly. ¹⁹ Out of Jacob shall come he that shall have dominion and shall destroy what remains of the city. ²⁰ And when he looked on Amalek, he took up his parable, and said, Amalek, head of the Gentiles; but his latter end shall be that he perish for ever. ²¹ And he looked on the Kenite and took up his parable and said, Strong is thy dwellingplace, and thou puttest thy nest in a rock; ²² because the Kenite shall be thrown out, when Asshur shall carry thee away captive. ²³ And he took up his parable again and said, Alas, who shall live when God shall do these things! ²⁴ And ships shall come from the coast of Chittim and shall afflict Asshur and shall afflict Eber, but he also shall perish for ever. ²⁵ Then Balaam rose up and went and returned to his place; and Balak also went his way.

²⁷ And the sons of Israel enquired of the LORD (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days, ²⁸ and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days), saying, Shall I yet again go out to battle against the sons of Benjamin, my brother, or shall I cease? And the LORD said, Go up, for tomorrow I will deliver them into thy hand.

⁹ But David understood that Saul devised evil against him, and he said to Abiathar, the priest, Bring here the ephod.

⁶ And Saul enquired of the LORD, but the LORD did not answer him by dreams nor by Urim nor by prophets.

⁵ But he was wounded for our rebellions; he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and by his stripes healing was provided for us. ⁶ All we like sheep have become lost; we have turned each one to his own way; and the LORD transposed in him the iniquity of us all. ⁷ He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he did not open his mouth. ⁸ He was taken from prison and from judgment; and who shall count his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living; for the rebellion of my people he was smitten.

²⁶ And after the sixty-two weeks the Anointed One {Heb. Messiah} shall be killed and shall have nothing: (and the ruling people that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; whose end shall be as a flood, until at the end of the war it shall be cut off with desolation).

²² Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? ²³ And then I will profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

²⁸ even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many.

¹⁵ As the Father knows me, even so I know the Father, and I lay down my soul for the sheep.

²⁵ whom God purposed for reconciliation through faith in his blood for the manifestation of his righteousness, for the remission of sins that are past, by the patience of God, ²⁶ manifesting in this time his righteousness that he only be the just one and the justifier of him that is of the faith of Jesus.

² And though I have the gift of prophecy and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

²¹ For he has made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

¹³ Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us, (for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangs on a tree),

⁴ but when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, ⁵ to redeem those that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

²⁴ he himself bore our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness; by whose wound ye were healed.

¹⁸ ¶ For the Christ also has once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in spirit,

¹⁵ who forsaking the right way have erred, having followed the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness, ¹⁶ and was rebuked for his iniquity; a dumb animal accustomed to a yoke (upon which he was seated), speaking with man’s voice, hindered the madness of the prophet. ¹⁷ These are wells without water, clouds that are brought by a whirlwind, to whom gross darkness is reserved for ever.

¹⁰ The sceptre shall not be taken from Judah, nor the lawgiver from between his feet until Shiloh comes; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.

¹⁵ My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaves to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.

²⁷ All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn unto the LORD; and all the families of the Gentiles shall worship before thee.

¹⁹ And blessed be his glorious name for ever, and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen.

²² when the people are gathered together as one and the kingdoms, to serve the LORD. ²³ ¶ He weakened my strength in the way; he shortened my days.

¹⁰ ¶ And it shall be in that day that the Root of Jesse, who shall be lifted up as a banner, as an example to the Gentiles shall be sought by the Gentiles; and his Kingdom of peace shall be glorious. ¹¹ And it shall come to pass in that day that the Lord shall return to set his hand again to possess the remnant of his people which were left from Assyria and from Egypt and from Pathros and from Cush and from Elam and from Shinar and from Hamath and from the islands of the sea. ¹² And he shall raise up a banner, as an example for the Gentiles and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

⁶ And he said, It is a light thing that thou should be my slave to wake up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the desolations of Israel; I have also given thee for a light to the Gentiles that thou may be my saving health unto the end of the earth.

¹⁸ ¶ Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold: all these gather themselves together, and come to thee. As I live, saith the LORD, thou shalt surely clothe thyself with them all, as with a garment of honour and shalt be girded by them as a bride.

⁵ Behold, thou shalt call a people that thou knowest not, and Gentiles that did not know thee shall run unto thee because of the LORD thy God and for the Holy One of Israel, for he has honoured thee.

⁸ The Lord GOD who gathers the outcasts of Israel says, I will still gather upon him his gathered ones.

⁴ Lift up thine eyes round about and see: they all gather themselves together; they come to thee; thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side.

¹⁶ Therefore say, Thus hath the Lord GOD said: Although I have cast them far off among the Gentiles and although I have scattered them among the countries, yet I will be to them as a little sanctuary in the countries where they shall come. ¹⁷ Therefore say, Thus hath the Lord GOD said: I will even gather you from the peoples, and assemble you out of the countries where ye have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.

¹² As the shepherd recognizes his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered, so will I recognize my sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day.

¹⁰ With all this, the number of the sons of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God.

³¹ ¶ When the Son of man shall come in his glory and all the holy angels with him, then he shall sit upon the throne of his glory, ³² and before him shall be gathered all nations; and he shall separate them one from another as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats, ³³ and he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. ³⁴ Then shall the King say unto those on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;

³² a light to be revealed unto the Gentiles and the glory of thy people Israel.

²⁹ ¶ The next day John saw Jesus coming unto him and said, Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.

¹⁶ And I have other sheep which are not of this fold; it is expedient that I bring them also, and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd.

³² And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

¹⁰ For I am with thee, and no one shall be able to hurt thee, for I have many people in this city.

²⁹ Is he the God of the Jews only? Is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also,

²⁹ ¶ For unto those whom he knew beforehand, he also marked out beforehand the way that they might be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. ³⁰ And unto those whom he did mark out beforehand the way, to these he also called; and to whom he called, these he also justified; and to whom he justified, these he also glorified.

²⁵ ¶ As he saith also in Hosea, I will call them my people, who were not my people, and her beloved, who was not beloved. ²⁶ And it shall come to pass that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there shall they be called sons of the living God.

⁵ having marked out beforehand the way for us to be adopted as sons by Jesus Christ in himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

⁹ having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he has purposed in himself, ¹⁰ that in the dispensation of the fulfillment of the times he might restore all things by the Christ, both those which are in heaven and those which are on earth,

¹⁴ ¶ For he is our peace, who of both has made one, breaking down the middle wall of separation, ¹⁵ abolishing in his flesh the enmity, which was the law of commandments in the order of rites, to edify in himself the two in one new man, making peace, ¹⁶ and to reconcile both with God by the cross {Gr. stauros – stake} in one body, having slain the enmity thereby; ¹⁷ and he came and preached peace unto you who were afar off and to those that were near. ¹⁸ For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. ¹⁹ Now therefore ye are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints and of the household of God, ²⁰ and are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone, ²¹ in whom all the building fitly framed together grows unto a holy temple in the Lord, ²² in whom ye also are being built together for the habitation of God in the Spirit.

¹¹ according to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord,

²⁰ and by him to reconcile all things unto himself, having made peace through the blood of his cross {Gr. stauros – stake}, whether they are the things in the earth or the things in the heavens. ²¹ And you, that were in another time alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now he has reconciled you ²² in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight ²³ if ye continue in the faith grounded and settled and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard and which is preached to every creature which is under heaven, of which I Paul am made a minister,

¹³ ¶ But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren, beloved of the Lord, because God has from the beginning chosen you to saving health through the sanctification of the Spirit and faith in the truth, ¹⁴ unto which he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹ ¶ James, {Gr. Jacob}, a slave of God and of the Lord Jesus, the Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.

¹ ¶ Peter, apostle of Jesus, the Christ, to the strangers scattered in Pontus, in Galatia, in Cappadocia, in Asia, and in Bithynia,

² and he is the reconciliation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

⁹ And they sang a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book and to open its seals, for thou wast slain and hast redeemed us unto God by thy blood, out of every kindred and tongue and people and nation

⁹ After this I saw, and, behold, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations and kindreds and peoples and tongues stood before the throne and before the Lamb clothed with long white robes and palms in their hands ¹⁰ and cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation unto him who is seated upon the throne of our God and unto the Lamb.

¹⁶ ¶ And it came to pass from that time forth that half of the young men wrought in the work, and the other half of them held spears, shields, bows, and coats of mail; and the princes were behind all the house of Judah.

²¹ Then I testified and protested against them and said unto them, Why do ye lodge about the wall? If ye do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time forth they came no more on the sabbath.

² The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his anointed, saying,

¹³ For I have heard the slander of many; fear was on every side; while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life.

¹⁰ For my enemies speak against me, and those that lay in wait for my soul take counsel together,

⁴ They have responded to my love by becoming my adversaries, but I give myself unto prayer. ⁵ And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

² Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore.

⁴ Therefore the princes said unto the king, We beseech thee, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakens the hands of the men of war that remain in this city and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them; for this man does not seek the peace of this people, but the hurt.

¹⁵ Then Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, If I declare it unto thee, wilt thou not surely put me to death? and if I give thee counsel, thou wilt not hearken unto me.

²¹ ¶ From that time forth Jesus began to declare unto his disciples, how it was expedient for him to go unto Jerusalem and to suffer many things of the elders and the princes of the priests and of the scribes and to be killed and to be raised again the third day.

⁴⁶ And no one was able to answer him a word, neither dared anyone from that day forth ask him any more questions.

⁵⁹ Now the princes of the priests and the elders and all the council sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;

⁶ And as the Pharisees went forth, they took counsel with the Herodians against him, to kill him.

⁴⁷ Then the high priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, What shall we do? for this man does many signs.

¹⁰ So the princes of the priests took counsel that they might also put Lazarus to death

³³ When they heard that, they were divided and took counsel to slay them.

²³ ¶ And as many days passed, the Jews took counsel among themselves to kill him;

²³ And it came to pass after two full years that Absalom had sheepshearers in Baalhazor, which is beside Ephraim, and Absalom invited all the king’s sons.

¹⁹ And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam and took cities from him, Bethel with its towns and Jeshanah with its towns and Ephron with its towns.

¹ ¶ When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John ² (though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples), ³ he left Judaea and departed again into Galilee.

¹ ¶ After these things Jesus walked in Galilee, for he would not walk in Judea because the Jews sought to kill him.

⁴ For no one who seeks to be clearly known does anything in secret. If thou doest these things, show thyself to the world.

¹⁰ But when his brethren were gone up, then he also went up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.

¹³ But no one spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews.

⁴⁰ and went away again beyond Jordan into the place where John at first baptized, and there he abode.

²⁰ Jesus answered him, I spoke openly to the world; I always taught in the synagogue and in the temple, where all the Jews gather; and I have said nothing in secret.

² Then Jacob said unto his household and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you and be clean and change your garments:

¹¹ And thus shall ye eat it: with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD’s passover. ¹² For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both among man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the LORD. ¹³ And this blood shall be to you for a sign upon the houses where ye are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. ¹⁴ And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it as a feast unto the LORD throughout your ages; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance forever.

¹⁰ And the LORD said unto Moses, Go unto the people and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes

¹⁴ And Moses went down from the mount unto the people and sanctified the people, and they washed their clothes. ¹⁵ And he said unto the people, Be ready against the third day; come not at your women.

⁶ And there were certain men, who were defiled by the dead body of a man, that they could not keep the passover on that day; and they came before Moses and before Aaron on that day;

⁵ And he said, Peaceably; I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD; sanctify yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons and called them to the sacrifice.

¹⁷ For there were yet many in the congregation that were not sanctified; therefore, the Levites had the charge of the killing of the passovers for each one that was not clean, to sanctify them unto the LORD. ¹⁸ For a multitude of the people, even many of Ephraim and Manasseh, Issachar, and Zebulun, had not cleansed themselves, and they ate the passover not as it was written. But Hezekiah prayed for them, saying, The good LORD pardon each one ¹⁹ that has prepared his heart to seek God, the LORD God of his fathers, even though he is not cleansed according to the purification of the sanctuary. ²⁰ And the LORD hearkened to Hezekiah and healed the people.

¹ ¶ And when the seventh month was come and the sons of Israel were in the cities, the people gathered themselves together as one man in Jerusalem. ² Then stood up Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, and his brethren, and they built the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings upon it, as it is written in the law of Moses, the man of God. ³ And they set the altar upon its bases, for fear was upon them because of the peoples of those lands, and they offered burnt offerings upon it unto the LORD, even burnt offerings morning and evening. ⁴ They kept also the feast of the tabernacles, as it is written, and offered the daily burnt offerings by number, according to the ordinance, each thing in its day, ⁵ and in addition to this, the continual burnt offering and the new moons and all the sanctified feasts of the LORD and every spontaneous freewill offering unto the LORD. ⁶ From the first day of the seventh month they began to offer burnt offerings unto the LORD. But the foundation of the temple of the LORD was not yet laid.

¹ ¶ And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the plaza that was before the water gate, and they spoke unto Ezra, the scribe, to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel. ² And Ezra, the priest, brought the law before the congregation, both of men and women and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month. ³ And he read in the book before the plaza that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law. ⁴ And Ezra, the scribe, stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Urijah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchiah, Hashum, Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam. ⁵ And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people (for he was above all the people), and when he opened it, all the people stood up: ⁶ and Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, lifting up their hands; and they humbled themselves and worshipped the LORD with their faces to the ground. ⁷ And Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, and Pelaiah, Levites, caused the people to be silent that they might understand the law; and the people were in their place. ⁸ So they read in the book in the law of God clearly and paid attention, and understood the reading. ⁹ ¶ And Nehemiah, the Tirshatha, and Ezra, the priest and scribe, and the Levites that caused the people to be attentive, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto the LORD your God; do not mourn nor weep. For all the people wept when they heard the words of the law. ¹⁰ Then he said unto them, Go, eat the fat, and drink sweet wine, and send portions unto those who have nothing prepared; for this day is holy unto our Lord, and not sad; for the joy of the LORD is your strength. ¹¹ So the Levites caused all the people to be silent, saying, Be silent, for the day is holy; neither be ye sad. ¹² And all the people went to eat and to drink and to send portions and to rejoice with great joy because they had understood the words that were taught unto them.

⁵ And it was so, when the days of their banquets were over, that Job sent and sanctified them and rose up early in the morning and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all; for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned and blasphemed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

⁶ ¶ I will wash my hands in innocency, so I will walk near unto thine altar, O LORD:

¹ ¶ And it came to pass when Jesus had finished all these words, he said unto his disciples,

⁶ And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.

¹³ And passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem

¹ ¶ After these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

⁴ And the passover, the feast of the Jews, was near.

⁸ Go ye up unto this feast; I go not up yet unto this feast, for my time is not yet fulfilled. ⁹ And having said these things unto them, he abode still in Galilee. ¹⁰ But when his brethren were gone up, then he also went up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.

¹ ¶ Jesus, therefore, six days before the passover, came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.

¹ ¶ Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them unto the end.

²⁸ ¶ Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment, and it was early; and they themselves did not go into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled, but that they might eat the passover.

¹⁸ Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult,

²⁸ But let each man prove himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

¹³ For if the blood of bulls and of goats and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctified to the purifying of the flesh, ¹⁴ how much more shall the blood of the Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from the works of death to serve the living God?

⁸ Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

¹¹ Then the Jews sought him at the feast and said, Where is he?

⁷ Then after that he said to his disciples, Let us go into Judea again. ⁸ His disciples said unto him, Rabbi, the Jews of late sought to stone thee, and goest thou there again?

⁴ They have responded to my love by becoming my adversaries, but I give myself unto prayer.

¹⁶ And for this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus and sought to kill him: because he had done these things on a sabbath. ¹⁷ ¶ But Jesus answered them, My Father works until now, and I work. ¹⁸ Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath but also called God his own Father, making himself equal with God.

²² These words spoke his parents because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had agreed already that if anyone did confess that he was the Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.
