¹ ¶ Jesus, therefore, six days before the passover, came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. ² There they made him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those that sat at the table with him. ³ Then Mary took a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment. ⁴ Then said one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, who should betray him, ⁵ Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarius and given to the poor? ⁶ This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief and had the bag and would take from what was put therein. ⁷ Therefore Jesus said, Let her alone; against the day of my burying she has kept this; ⁸ for the poor ye always have with you, but ye shall not always have me. ⁹ A great multitude of the Jews therefore knew that he was there; and they came not only for Jesus’ sake, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead. ¹⁰ So the princes of the priests took counsel that they might also put Lazarus to death ¹¹ because by reason of him many of the Jews went away and believed on Jesus. ¹² ¶ On the next day the multitude that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, ¹³ took branches of palm trees and went forth to meet him and cried, Hosanna; Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel. ¹⁴ And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat upon it, as it is written, ¹⁵ Fear not, daughter of Sion; behold, thy King comes, sitting on an ass’s colt. ¹⁶ His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of him and that they had done these things unto him. ¹⁷ The multitude, therefore, that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave and raised him from the dead, bore witness. ¹⁸ For this cause the multitude also met him, for they had heard that he had done this sign. ¹⁹ The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him. ²⁰ ¶ And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast; ²¹ the same came therefore to Philip, who was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, Lord, we desire to see Jesus. ²² Philip came and told Andrew, and then Andrew and Philip told Jesus. ²³ And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour comes in which the Son of man shall be clarified. ²⁴ Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except the grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it abides alone; but if it dies, it brings forth much fruit. ²⁵ He that loves his life shall lose it, and he that hates his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. ²⁶ If anyone serves me, let them follow me; and where I am, there shall my servant be also; the one that serves me, will my Father honour. ²⁷ ¶ Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour, but for this have I come in this hour. ²⁸ Father, clarify thy name. Then there came a voice from the heaven, saying, I have clarified it and will clarify it again. ²⁹ The people, therefore, that were present and heard it, said that it thundered; others said, An angel spoke to him. ³⁰ Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. ³¹ Now is the judgment of this world; now shall the prince of this world be cast out. ³² And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. ³³ This he said, signifying what death he should die. ³⁴ The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that the Christ abides for ever; and how sayest thou, It is expedient that the Son of man be lifted up? Who is this Son of man? ³⁵ Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the Light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you; for he that walks in darkness does not know where he goes. ³⁶ While ye have the Light, believe in the Light that ye may be the sons of light. Jesus spoke these things and departed and hid himself from them. ³⁷ ¶ But although he had done so many signs before them, yet they did not believe in him, ³⁸ that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke, Lord, who shall believe our report? and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? ³⁹ Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again, ⁴⁰ He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, that they should not see with their eyes nor understand with their heart and be converted, and I should heal them. ⁴¹ Isaiah said these things when he saw his glory and spoke of him. ⁴² ¶ Nevertheless, even among the princes many believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; ⁴³ for they loved the glory of men more than the glory of God. ⁴⁴ ¶ But Jesus cried and said, He that believes in me, believes not in me, but in him that sent me, ⁴⁵ and he that sees me sees him that sent me. ⁴⁶ I am come as a light into the world that whosoever believes in me should not abide in darkness. ⁴⁷ And if anyone hears my words and believes not, I judge him not, for I came not to judge the world but to save the world. ⁴⁸ He that rejects me and does not receive my words has one that judges him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. ⁴⁹ For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father who sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say and what I should speak. ⁵⁰ And I know that his commandment is eternal life; whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

¹⁷ And he left them and went out of the city into Bethany, and he lodged there.

⁶ ¶ Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, ⁷ a woman came unto him having an alabaster box of very precious ointment and poured it on his head as he sat at the table. ⁸ But when his disciples saw it, they became indignant, saying, To what purpose is this waste? ⁹ For this ointment might have been sold for much and given to the poor. ¹⁰ But Jesus, understanding this, said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she has wrought a good work upon me. ¹¹ For ye have the poor always with you, but me ye have not always.

¹¹ And the Lord entered into Jerusalem and into the temple; and when he had looked around upon all things, and it being now late, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.

³ And he being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, sitting at the table, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and breaking the alabaster, she poured it over his head. ⁴ And there were some that had indignation within themselves and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made? ⁵ For it might have been sold for more than three hundred denarius and given to the poor. And they murmured against her. ⁶ But Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? She has wrought a good work on me. ⁷ For ye have the poor with you always, and whenever ye will, ye may do them good; but me ye have not always. ⁸ She has done what she could, for she has anticipated anointing my body for the burial.

⁵⁰ ¶ And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands and blessed them.

¹ ¶ Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.

⁴⁴ Then he that had been dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus said unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

⁵⁵ And the passover of the Jews was now at hand, and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover to purify themselves;

²⁰ ¶ And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast;

¹⁶ Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden that the aroma of its spices may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his sweet fruits.

⁶ ¶ Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

³ And he being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, sitting at the table, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and breaking the alabaster, she poured it over his head.

²⁹ And Levi made a great banquet in his own house and there was a great company of publicans and of others that sat down at the table with them.

³⁸ ¶ Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. ³⁹ And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard his word. ⁴⁰ But Martha was cumbered about in much serving and came to him and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Bid her therefore that she help me. ⁴¹ And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things; ⁴² but only one thing is necessary, and Mary has chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

³⁷ Blessed are those slaves, whom the lord when he comes shall find watching; verily I say unto you that he shall gird himself and make them to sit down to food and will come forth and serve them.

¹² Then said he also to him that invited him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen nor thy rich neighbours, lest they also invite thee again, and a recompense be made thee.

²⁷ For who is greater, he that sits at the table or he that serves? Is it not he that sits at the table? But I am among you as he that serves.

⁴³ And having said these things, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. ⁴⁴ Then he that had been dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus said unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

⁹ A great multitude of the Jews therefore knew that he was there; and they came not only for Jesus’ sake, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead. ¹⁰ So the princes of the priests took counsel that they might also put Lazarus to death

²⁰ Behold, I stand at the door and call; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come into him and will sup with him, and he with me.

² How he swore unto the LORD and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob;

³ Because of the savour of thy good ointments (ointment poured forth is thy name), therefore have the virgins loved thee.

¹² ¶ While the king was on his couch, my spikenard gave forth its fragrance.

¹⁰ How fair is thy love, my sister, my spouse! how much better is thy love than wine! and the smell of thine ointments than all spices!

¹³ Thy newly budded plants are a paradise of pomegranates, with pleasant fruits; camphire, {Heb. ransom}, with spikenard, ¹⁴ spikenard and saffron; calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense; myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices:

⁶ ¶ Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, ⁷ a woman came unto him having an alabaster box of very precious ointment and poured it on his head as he sat at the table. ⁸ But when his disciples saw it, they became indignant, saying, To what purpose is this waste? ⁹ For this ointment might have been sold for much and given to the poor. ¹⁰ But Jesus, understanding this, said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she has wrought a good work upon me. ¹¹ For ye have the poor always with you, but me ye have not always. ¹² For in that she has poured this ointment on my body, she did it to prepare for my burial. ¹³ Verily I say unto you, Wherever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman has done, be told for a memorial of her.

³⁷ And, behold, a woman who had been a sinner in the city, when she knew that Jesus sat at food in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, ³⁸ and stood at his feet behind him weeping and began to wash his feet with tears and wiped them with the hairs of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment.

⁴⁶ Thou didst not anoint my head with oil; but this woman has anointed my feet with ointment.

³⁸ ¶ Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. ³⁹ And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard his word.

² (It was that Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair whose brother Lazarus was sick.)

²⁸ And having said this, she went away and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calls for thee.

³² Then when Mary was come where Jesus was and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother would not have died.

²⁸ And Eliab, his eldest brother, heard when he spoke unto the men, and Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why didst thou come down here? And with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride and the malice of thy heart, for thou art come down that thou might see the battle. ²⁹ And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?

⁴ ¶ Again, I considered all travail and every right work, that for this a man is envied of his neighbour. This is also vanity and vexation of spirit.

⁴ Simon the Canaanite and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

¹⁶ and Judas the brother of James and Judas Iscariot, who also was the traitor.

⁷⁰ Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? ⁷¹ He spoke of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon, for it was he that should betray him, being one of the twelve.

² And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him,

²⁶ Jesus answered, He it is to whom I shall give a sop when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.

² And Judas also, who betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus gathered there often with his disciples. ³ Judas then, taking a company of soldiers and ministers of the high priests and of the Pharisees, came there with lanterns and torches and weapons. ⁴ Jesus therefore, knowing all the things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye? ⁵ They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus said unto them, I AM. And Judas also, who betrayed him, stood with them.

⁸ And the tally of the bricks which they made before, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish any of it; for they are idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.

¹⁷ And he replied, Ye are idle, ye are idle, therefore ye say, Let us go and sacrifice unto the LORD.

⁵ saying, When the month is over, we will sell the wheat; and after the sabbath day we will open the storehouse of bread, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit;

¹⁰ Who is there even among you that would shut the doors or tend the fire on my altar for free? I have no pleasure in you, said the LORD of the hosts, neither will the offering from your hand be agreeable unto me. ¹¹ For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same, my name is great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense is offered unto my name, and a clean offering; for my name is great among the Gentiles, said the LORD of the hosts. ¹² And ye have profaned it when ye say, We die of hunger at the service of the LORD and when ye speak that his food is contemptible. ¹³ And ye say, Behold, what a weariness it is! and ye have rejected it, said the LORD of the hosts; and ye brought that which was stolen or lame or sick and presented an offering: should this be acceptable unto me by your hand? said the LORD.

² And when he had agreed with the labourers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

⁸ But when his disciples saw it, they became indignant, saying, To what purpose is this waste? ⁹ For this ointment might have been sold for much and given to the poor.

⁴ And there were some that had indignation within themselves and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made? ⁵ For it might have been sold for more than three hundred denarius and given to the poor. And they murmured against her.

⁴¹ And why dost thou behold the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but not perceive the beam that is in thine own eye?

³³ Sell what ye have and give alms; {lit. do acts of mercy}; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that fails not, where no thief approaches neither moth corrupts.

²² Now when Jesus heard this, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.

⁷ Philip answered him, Two hundred denarius of bread is not sufficient for them, that each one of them may take a little.

²⁰ ¶ But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master has spared Naaman, this Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought. As the LORD lives, I will run after him and take something from him. ²¹ So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw him running after him, he lighted down from the chariot to meet him and said, Is there no peace? ²² And he said, Peace. My master has sent me, saying, Behold, even now two young men of the sons of the prophets came to me from Mount Ephraim; give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver and two changes of garments. ²³ And Naaman said, If you wish take two talents. And he urged him and bound two talents of silver in two bags with two changes of garments and laid them upon two of his servants; and they bore them before him. ²⁴ And when he came to a secret place, he took them from their hand and bestowed them in the house; and he let the men go, and they departed. ²⁵ But when he went in and stood before his master, Elisha said unto him, From where comest thou, Gehazi? And he said, Thy servant went nowhere. ²⁶ Then he said unto him, Did not my heart go with thee when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money and to receive garments and oliveyards and vineyards and sheep and oxen and menslaves and maidslaves? ²⁷ The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.

¹⁴ because they gave it to the workmen and repaired the house of the LORD with it. ¹⁵ Moreover they did not require accounts from the men into whose hands they delivered the money to be bestowed on workmen, for they dealt faithfully.

²⁴ ¶ Then I separated twelve of the principals of the priests, Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brethren with them, ²⁵ and weighed unto them the silver and the gold and the vessels, the offering for the house of our God, which the king and his counsellors and his princes and all those that were of Israel had offered. ²⁶ I weighed, therefore, unto their hand six hundred and fifty talents of silver and silver vessels of one hundred talents and of gold one hundred talents; ²⁷ also twenty basins of gold, of a thousand drams, and two vessels of clean brass, precious as gold. ²⁸ And I said unto them, Ye are holiness unto the LORD; the vessels are holiness also; and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering unto the LORD God of your fathers. ²⁹ Watch and keep them until you weigh them before the princes of the priests and the Levites and of the princes of the fathers of Israel in Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of the LORD. ³⁰ The priests and the Levites received the weight of the silver and of the gold and of the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem unto the house of our God. ³¹ ¶ And we departed from the river of Ahava on the twelfth of the first month to go to Jerusalem; and the hand of our God was upon us, and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy and of such as lay in wait by the way. ³² And we came to Jerusalem and abode there three days. ³³ Now on the fourth day the silver and the gold and the vessels were weighed in the house of our God by the hand of Meremoth, the son of Uriah, the priest; and with him was Eleazar, the son of Phinehas; and with them was Jozabad, the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah, the son of Binnui, Levites; ³⁴ by number and by weight of each one; and all the weight was written at that time.

¹ To the Overcomer,
A Psalm of David. ¶ The fool has said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is no one that does good.

¹⁶ ¶ But unto the wicked God saith, What part hast thou to declare my statutes or that thou should take my covenant in thy mouth? ¹⁷ Seeing thou dost hate chastening and dost cast my words behind thee. ¹⁸ When thou didst see a thief, then thou didst consent with him and hast been partaker with adulterers. ¹⁹ Thou didst give thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frames deceit. ²⁰ Thou didst sit and speak against thy brother; thou didst slander thine own mother’s son.

⁷ ¶ The righteous considers the cause of the poor, but the wicked does not understand wisdom.

³¹ And they shall come unto thee as the people come, and they shall be before thee, my people, and they shall hear thy words, but they shall not do them; for with their mouth they flatter, but their heart goes after their covetousness.

¹³ and said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.

⁸ All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. ⁹ I AM the door; whosoever enters in by me shall be saved and shall go in and out and find pasture. ¹⁰ The thief comes not but for to steal and to kill and to destroy the sheep; I am come that they might have life and that they might have it in abundance.

¹³ The hireling flees because he is a hireling, and the sheep do not belong to him.

²⁹ For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we need for the feast, or that he should give something to the poor.

¹⁰ nor thieves nor covetous nor drunkards nor revilers nor extortioners shall inherit the kingdom of God.

¹⁹ and not that only, but who was also ordained by the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord and declaration of your ready desire, ²⁰ avoiding that anyone should blame us regarding this abundance which is ministered by us, ²¹ providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

¹⁰ Only they asked that we should remember the poor; the same which I was also diligent to do.

²² Separate yourselves from all appearance of evil.

² For if a man with a gold ring and in precious apparel comes into your synagogue and a poor person in vile raiment also comes in,

⁶ But ye have despised the poor. Do not the rich oppress you with tyranny and draw you with violence to the courts?

³¹ For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor in spirit to save his soul from those that judge him.

² And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD reprehend thee, O Satan; even the LORD that has chosen Jerusalem reprehend thee; is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?

¹⁰ But Jesus, understanding this, said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she has wrought a good work upon me.

¹² For in that she has poured this ointment on my body, she did it to prepare for my burial.

⁵⁷ ¶ When the evening was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also had been a disciple of Jesus; ⁵⁸ he went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered. ⁵⁹ And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth ⁶⁰ and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock, and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre and departed.

⁶ But Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? She has wrought a good work on me.

⁴² ¶ And now when the evening was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath, ⁴³ Joseph of Arimathaea, a noble senator, who also waited for the kingdom of God, came and went in boldly unto Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. ⁴⁴ And Pilate marvelled that he was already dead; and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he was already dead. ⁴⁵ And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph. ⁴⁶ And he bought fine linen and took him down and wrapped him in the linen and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre. ⁴⁷ And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.

⁵⁰ ¶ And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a senator; and he was a good man and just

³⁸ ¶ After these things, Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore and took the body of Jesus. ³⁹ Then Nicodemus came also, who at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about one hundred pounds. ⁴⁰ And they took the body of Jesus and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as is the manner of the Jews to bury. ⁴¹ Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new sepulchre, in which no one had yet been laid. ⁴² Therefore they laid Jesus there because of the Jews’ preparation day, for the sepulchre was near.

¹¹ For the poor shall never cease out of the land; therefore, I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor and to thy needy, in thy land.

⁶ I opened to my beloved, but my beloved had withdrawn himself and was gone; my soul went after his speech; I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer.

¹¹ For ye have the poor always with you, but me ye have not always.

⁷ For ye have the poor with you always, and whenever ye will, ye may do them good; but me ye have not always.

²¹ ¶ Then Jesus said again unto them, I am going away, and ye shall seek me, but ye shall die in your sins; where I go, ye shall not be able to come.

³⁵ Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the Light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you; for he that walks in darkness does not know where he goes.

³³ Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me; and as I said unto the Jews, Where I go, ye cannot come, so now I say to you.

⁵ But now I go unto him that sent me, and none of you asks me, Where goest thou? ⁶ But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow has filled your heart. ⁷ ¶ Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is expedient for you that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

⁹ And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. ¹⁰ And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, ¹¹ who also said, Ye men of Galilee, what do ye stand gazing at up into heaven? This same Jesus, who is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

⁴³ And having said these things, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. ⁴⁴ Then he that had been dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus said unto them, Loose him, and let him go. ⁴⁵ ¶ Then many of the Jews who had come to Mary and had seen what Jesus did believed on him.

¹⁰ and they knew that it was he who sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him. ¹¹ And as the lame man who was healed held onto Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon’s, greatly wondering.

¹⁴ And beholding the man who was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

⁴ And Abel, he also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD looked upon Abel and his present, ⁵ but he did not look upon Cain and his present. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. ⁶ ¶ Then the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? ⁷ If thou doest good, it shall certainly be accepted; and if thou doest not good, sin lies at the door. And his desire shall be unto thee, but thou must rule over him. ⁸ ¶ And Cain talked with Abel his brother, and it came to pass when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and slew him. ⁹ ¶ And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not, Am I my brother’s keeper? ¹⁰ And he said, What hast thou done? The voice of thy brother’s blood cries unto me from the ground.

³ Then Moses and Aaron came in unto Pharaoh and said unto him, Thus hath the LORD God of the Hebrews said, How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before me? Let my people go that they may serve me.

²⁵ Because he extended his hand against God and strengthens himself against the Almighty, ²⁶ he shall run him through in the neck, upon the thick shoulder pieces of his shields;

⁸ Wilt thou disannul my judgment? Wilt thou condemn me, that thou may be justified? ⁹ Hast thou an arm like God? And canst thou thunder with a voice like him?

³ This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all; and also that the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.

²¹ and he was driven from among the sons of men; and his heart was put with the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses: they made him eat grass like an ox, and his body was bathed with the dew of heaven until he understood that the most high God takes rule of the kingdom of men and that he appoints over it whomever he will. ²² And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this; ²³ but hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou and thy princes, thy wives and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; furthermore, thou hast praised gods of silver and of gold, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor know; and the God in whose hand is thy soul and whose are all thy ways, thou hast never honoured.

³ When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled and all Jerusalem with him. ⁴ And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he asked them where the Christ should be born. ⁵ And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea, for thus it is written by the prophet, ⁶ And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda, for out of thee shall come a Leader that shall shepherd my people Israel. ⁷ Then Herod, calling the wise men unto him secretly, understood of them with diligence the time of the appearing of the star; ⁸ and sending them to Bethlehem, he said, Go there and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again that I may come and worship him also.

¹⁶ ¶ Then Herod, seeing that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth and sent forth and killed all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the borders thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had understood of the wise men.

³¹ And he said unto him, If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, even though one rose from the dead.

⁴⁷ Then the high priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, What shall we do? for this man does many signs. ⁴⁸ If we let him thus alone, everyone will believe on him, and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and the nation. ⁴⁹ And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all ⁵⁰ nor consider that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation be lost. ⁵¹ And this he spoke not of himself; but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation; ⁵² and not for that nation only, but that he should also gather together in one the sons of God that were scattered abroad. ⁵³ So that from that day forth they took counsel together to kill him.

⁵⁷ Now both the high priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that if anyone knew where he was he should show it, that they might take him.

³¹ And many of the people believed in him and said, When the Christ comes, will he do more signs than these which this man has done?

⁴⁵ ¶ Then many of the Jews who had come to Mary and had seen what Jesus did believed on him.

⁴⁸ If we let him thus alone, everyone will believe on him, and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and the nation.

¹⁸ For this cause the multitude also met him, for they had heard that he had done this sign.

¹⁸ ¶ If the world hates you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. ¹⁹ If ye were of the world, the world would love its own; but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. ²⁰ Remember the word that I said unto you, The slave is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my word, they will keep yours also. ²¹ But they will do all these things unto you for my name’s sake, because they do not know him that sent me. ²² If I had not come and spoken unto them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. ²³ He that hates me hates my Father also. ²⁴ If I had not done among them works which no other man has done, they would not have sin; but now they have seen them and hate both me and my Father. ²⁵ But this comes to pass that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy and spoke against that which Paul said, contradicting and blaspheming.

¹⁴ But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, boast not and do not be liars against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom is not that which descends from above, but is earthly, natural, diabolical. ¹⁶ For where there is envy and contention, there is confusion and every perverse work.

⁴ All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, ⁵ Say unto the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King comes unto thee, meek and sitting upon an ass and a colt the foal of a beast under yoke. ⁶ And the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them ⁷ and brought the ass and the colt and put on them their clothes, and he sat upon them. ⁸ And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them in the way. ⁹ And the people that went before and that followed, cried out, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.

⁷ They brought the colt to Jesus and cast their garments on him, and he sat upon him. ⁸ And many spread their garments in the way, and others cut down leaves off the trees and spread them in the way. ⁹ And those that went before and those that followed cried out, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord; ¹⁰ blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.

³⁵ And they brought him to Jesus, and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus upon it. ³⁶ And as he went, they spread their garments in the way. ³⁷ And when he was come near, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, ³⁸ saying, Blessed be the King that comes in the name of the Lord; peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

⁵⁵ And the passover of the Jews was now at hand, and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover to purify themselves; ⁵⁶ and they sought for Jesus and spoke among themselves as they stood in the temple, What think ye, that he will not come to the feast?

⁴⁰ And on the first day ye shall take branches with fruit of a beautiful tree, palm branches and the boughs of thick trees and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God seven days.

¹⁷ His name shall endure for ever; before the sun his name shall be disseminated, and all Gentiles shall be blessed in him; they shall call him blessed. ¹⁸ ¶ Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, the only one who does wondrous things ¹⁹ And blessed be his glorious name for ever, and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen.

²⁵ Save now, I beseech thee, O LORD; O LORD, I beseech thee, cause us now to prosper. ²⁶ Blessed be he that comes in the name of the LORD; from the house of the LORD we bless you.

⁶ Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel and his redeemer, the LORD of the hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

⁵ afterward the sons of Israel shall return, and they shall seek the LORD their God and David their king; and they shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the end of the days.

¹⁵ The LORD has taken away thy judgments; he has cast out thine enemy; the LORD is king of Israel in the midst of thee; thou shalt not see evil any more.

⁹ And the people that went before and that followed, cried out, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest. ¹⁰ And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? ¹¹ And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.

³⁹ For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me from now on until ye shall say, Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord.

⁴⁹ Nathanael answered and said unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.

¹⁵ Fear not, daughter of Sion; behold, thy King comes, sitting on an ass’s colt.

¹⁵ But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate said unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The high priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.

¹⁹ ¶ And Pilate also wrote a title and put it above the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. ²⁰ And many of the Jews read this title, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near to the city; and it was written in Hebrew and Greek and Latin. ²¹ Then the high priests of the Jews said to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews, but that he said, I AM King of the Jews. ²² Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.

⁹ After this I saw, and, behold, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations and kindreds and peoples and tongues stood before the throne and before the Lamb clothed with long white robes and palms in their hands

³ And they sing the song of Moses, the slave of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.

¹⁶ And he has on his garment and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

⁹ ¶ Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout with joy, O daughter of Jerusalem; behold, thy King shall come unto thee: just, and a saviour; humble, and riding upon an ass, even upon a colt the foal of an ass.

¹ ¶ And when they drew near unto Jerusalem and were come to Bethphage unto the mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, ² saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied and a colt with her; loose them and bring them unto me. ³ And if anyone says anything unto you, ye shall say, The Lord has need of them; and straightway he will send them. ⁴ All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, ⁵ Say unto the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King comes unto thee, meek and sitting upon an ass and a colt the foal of a beast under yoke. ⁶ And the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them ⁷ and brought the ass and the colt and put on them their clothes, and he sat upon them.

¹ ¶ And when they came near to Jerusalem unto Bethphage and Bethany at the mount of Olives, he sends forth two of his disciples ² and said unto them, Go to the place which is before you; and as soon as ye are entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied, upon which no man ever sat; loose him and bring him. ³ And if anyone says unto you, Why do ye this? say ye that the Lord has need of him, and straightway he will send him here. ⁴ And they went and found the colt tied by the door outside between two ways, and they loosed him. ⁵ And some of those that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt? ⁶ Then they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded, and they let them go. ⁷ They brought the colt to Jesus and cast their garments on him, and he sat upon him.

²⁹ And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, ³⁰ saying, Go ye into the village over against you, in which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, upon whom no one has ever sat; loose him, and bring him here. ³¹ And if anyone asks you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord has need of him. ³² And those that were sent went and found even as he had said unto them. ³³ And as they were loosing the colt, its owners said unto them, Why loose ye the colt? ³⁴ And they said, The Lord has need of him. ³⁵ And they brought him to Jesus, and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus upon it.

¹⁶ Only he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses; for the LORD has said unto you, Ye shall not procure to return any more to that way.

¹⁰ Speak, ye that ride on white asses, ye that preside in judgment, and walk by the way.

¹⁴ And he had forty sons and thirty grandsons that rode on seventy he asses, and he judged Israel eight years.

¹ ¶ And it came to pass after this that Absalom prepared himself chariots and horses and fifty men to run before him.

² And the king said unto Ziba, What meanest thou by these? And Ziba said, The asses are for the king’s household to ride on, and the bread and summer fruit for the servants to eat, and the wine that those that become weary in the wilderness may drink.

³³ And the king said unto them, Take with you the slaves of your lord and cause Solomon my son to ride upon my own mule and bring him down to Gihon.

⁴ Say to those that are of a fearful heart, Be comforted, fear not; behold, your God comes with vengeance, with recompense; God himself will come and save you. ⁵ ¶ Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.

⁹ ¶ O Zion, that brings good tidings, go up into the high mountain; lift up thy voice with strength O bearer of good tidings of Jerusalem; lift it up, do not be afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God! ¹⁰ Behold, the Lord GOD will come with a strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.

¹⁴ Fear not, thou worm Jacob, ye dead of Israel; I will help thee, saith the LORD and thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.

¹¹ Behold, the LORD has caused it to be heard unto the end of the earth; Say unto the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy Saviour comes; behold that his reward is with him, and his work before him.

⁸ ¶ And thou, O tower of the flock, the stronghold of the daughter of Zion shall come unto thee; and the dominion shall come first, the kingdom, to the daughter of Jerusalem.

¹⁶ In that time it shall be said to Jerusalem, Do not fear; and to Zion, Do not let thine hands be slack. ¹⁷ The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save; he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love; he will joy over thee with singing.

⁹ For, behold, I raise my hand regarding them, and they shall be a spoil to their servants; and ye shall know that the LORD of the hosts has sent me. ¹⁰ ¶ Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion, for, behold, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, said the LORD. ¹¹ And many Gentiles shall join themselves unto the LORD in that day and shall be my people, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and then thou shalt know that the LORD of the hosts has sent me unto thee.

² saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? ¹⁹ ¶ So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven and sat at the right hand of God.

⁴⁵ But they did not understand this word, and it was hid from them that they should not understand, and they feared to ask him regarding this.

³⁴ And they understood none of these things, and this word was hid from them, and they did not know what was said.

⁶ He is not here, but is risen; remember how he spoke unto you when he was yet in Galilee, ⁷ saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and the third day rise again. ⁸ Then they remembered his words

²⁵ Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken;

⁴⁵ Then he opened their understanding that they might understand the scriptures

²² Therefore when he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture and the word which Jesus had said.

³⁹ (But this he spoke concerning the Spirit, which those that believe on him should receive, for the Holy Spirit was not yet given because Jesus was not yet glorified.)

²³ And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour comes in which the Son of man shall be clarified.

³¹ ¶ Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man clarified, and God is clarified in him. ³² If God is clarified in him, God shall also clarify him in himself and shall straightway clarify him.

²⁶ But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all the things that I have said unto you.

⁴ But I have told you these things that when that hour shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And I did not say these things unto you at the beginning because I was with you.

⁵ And now, O Father, clarify thou me with thine own self with that clarity which I had with thee before the world was.

³³ Therefore being raised up by the right hand of God and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this which ye now see and hear.

³⁶ Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

¹³ The God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his Son Jesus, whom ye delivered up and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he had judged to let him go.

¹ ¶ Now of the things which we have spoken, this is the sum: We have such a high priest who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,

² with our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who having been offered joy, endured the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}, despising the shame and was seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

⁶ Vau And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts, and I will declare thy greatness. ⁷ Zain They shall proclaim the memory of thy great goodness and shall sing of thy righteousness.

¹⁹ ¶ And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?

³² And John gave testimony, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.

³⁴ And I have seen and have given testimony that this is the Son of God.

³⁵ He was a burning and a shining light, and ye were willing to rejoice for one hour in his light. ³⁶ But I have greater testimony than that of John; for the works which the Father has given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me that the Father has sent me. ³⁷ And the Father himself, who has sent me, has borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time nor seen his appearance. ³⁸ And ye do not have his word abiding in you; for whom he has sent, him ye do not believe. ³⁹ Search the scriptures, for in them ye think ye have eternal life; and they are those who testify of me.

¹³ Then the Pharisees said unto him, Thou dost bear witness of thyself; thy witness is not true. ¹⁴ Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear witness of myself, my witness is true, for I know from where I came and where I go; but ye do not know where I came from and where I go.

³¹ Then the Jews who were with her in the house and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goes unto the grave to weep there.

⁴² And I knew that thou hearest me always, but because of the people who stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.

⁴⁵ ¶ Then many of the Jews who had come to Mary and had seen what Jesus did believed on him. ⁴⁶ But some of them went unto the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done.

⁹ A great multitude of the Jews therefore knew that he was there; and they came not only for Jesus’ sake, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.

²⁶ ¶ But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceeds from the Father, he shall testify of me; ²⁷ and ye also shall bear witness because ye have been with me from the beginning.

³⁵ And he that saw it gives testimony, and his testimony is true, and he knows that he says the truth, that ye also might believe.

²⁴ This is the disciple who testifies of these things and wrote these things, and we know that his testimony is true.

²² beginning from the baptism of John unto that same day that he was received on high from among us, that one must be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

³² And we are his witnesses of these things, and so is also the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those that persuade him.

⁹ If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he has testified of his Son. ¹⁰ ¶ He that believes in the Son of God has the witness of God in himself; he that does not believe God has made God a liar; because he does not believe the witness that God has testified of his Son. ¹¹ And this is the witness, that God has given eternal life to us, and this life is in his Son. ¹² He that has the Son has life; and he that does not have the Son of God does not have life.

² who bore witness of the word of God and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.

¹¹ because by reason of him many of the Jews went away and believed on Jesus.

²⁷ All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn unto the LORD; and all the families of the Gentiles shall worship before thee.

A Psalm for the sons of Korah. ¶ Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:

⁶ Days shall come when Jacob shall take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, and the face of the world shall be filled with fruit.

¹⁵ But when the princes of the priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did and the children crying out in the temple and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David, they were sore displeased

⁴⁷ And he taught daily in the temple. But the princes of the priests and the scribes and the principals of the people sought to kill him ⁴⁸ and could not find what they might do, for all the people were very attentive to hear him.

²⁶ And they came unto John and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan of whom thou gave witness, behold, the same baptizes, and all men come to him.

¹⁶ saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle has been done by them is manifest to all those that dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. ¹⁷ But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them that from now on they speak to no man in this name.

²⁷ And when they had brought them, they set them before the council, and the prince of the priests asked them, ²⁸ saying, Did we not strictly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.

⁶ And when they did not find them, they brought Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down have come here also,

² and he is the reconciliation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

⁴¹ Likewise concerning a stranger, that is not of thy people Israel, but comes out of a far country for thy name’s sake ⁴² (for they shall have heard of thy great name and of thy strong hand and of thy stretched out arm), when he shall come to pray in this house, ⁴³ thou shalt hear in the heavens, in the habitation of thy dwelling place, and do according to all that for which the stranger shall have called unto thee, that all peoples of the earth may know thy name and fear thee as do thy people Israel and that they may know that thy name is invoked upon this house, which I have built.

¹⁰ ¶ And it shall be in that day that the Root of Jesse, who shall be lifted up as a banner, as an example to the Gentiles shall be sought by the Gentiles; and his Kingdom of peace shall be glorious.

² For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the peoples: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. ³ And the Gentiles shall walk to thy light, and the kings to the brightness of thy birth. ⁴ Lift up thine eyes round about and see: they all gather themselves together; they come to thee; thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side. ⁵ Then thou shall see, and thou shall shine, and thine heart shall marvel, and be enlarged because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the strength of the Gentiles shall have come unto thee. ⁶ The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all those from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall show forth the praises of the LORD. ⁷ All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together unto thee, rams of Nebaioth shall be served unto thee: they shall be offered up with grace upon my altar, and I will glorify the house of my glory. ⁸ Who are these that fly as a cloud, and as the doves to their windows? ⁹ ¶ For the isles shall wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish from the first, to bring thy sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, unto the name of the LORD thy God, and to the Holy One of Israel, who has glorified thee. ¹⁰ And the sons of strangers shall build up thy walls, and their kings shall serve thee; for in my wrath I smote thee, but in my good favour I shall have mercy on thee. ¹¹ Therefore thy gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that the strength of the Gentiles may be brought unto thee, and their kings guided. ¹² For the people or the kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish and shall be utterly wasted. ¹³ The glory of Lebanon shall come unto thee, the fir tree, the pine tree, and the box together, to beautify the place of my sanctuary; and I will honour the place of my feet. ¹⁴ The sons also of those that afflicted thee shall come humbled unto thee; and at the steps of thy feet all those that despised thee shall bow themselves down; and they shall call thee, The city of the LORD, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁹ And I will set a sign among them, and I will send those that escape of them unto the Gentiles, to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, that draw the bow, to Tubal, and Javan, to the isles afar off, that have never heard my name, nor seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the Gentiles. ²⁰ And they shall bring all your brethren for an offering unto the LORD from among all the Gentiles, upon horses and in chariots and in litters and upon mules and upon camels to my holy mountain of Jerusalem, saith the LORD, so that the sons of Israel bring the offering in clean vessels to the house of the LORD. ²¹ And I will also take of them for priests and for Levites, saith the LORD.

²⁶ the woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation, and she besought him that he would cast forth the demon out of her daughter.

³⁵ Then the Jews said among themselves, Where will he go that we shall not find him? Will he go unto the dispersed among the Greeks and teach the Greeks?

²⁷ Then he arose and went, and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure and had come to Jerusalem to worship,

¹ ¶ And it came to pass in Iconium that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews and so spoke, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.

¹ ¶ Then he came to Derbe and Lystra; and, behold, a certain disciple was there named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman, who was faithful, but his father was a Gentile,

⁴ And some of them believed and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the noble women not a few.

²¹ testifying both to the Jews and also to the Gentiles, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

²⁸ crying out, Men of Israel, help; this is the man that teaches everyone everywhere against the people and the law and this place and further brought Greeks also into the temple and has polluted this holy place.

¹⁶ ¶ For I am not ashamed of the gospel of the Christ; for it is the power of God to give saving health to every one that believes: to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

¹² ¶ For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

³ But not even Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised,

²⁸ Here there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

¹¹ where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian nor Scythian, slave nor free: but Christ is all and in all.

² saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? We have seen his star in the east and are come to worship him.

⁹ For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me; and I say to this man, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my slave, Do this, and he does it. ¹⁰ When Jesus heard it, he marvelled and said to those that followed, Verily I say unto you that not even in Israel have I found such faith. ¹¹ But I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west and shall sit down at the table with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of the heavens. ¹² But the sons of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

²¹ Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.

¹⁹ He shall not strive nor cry, neither shall anyone hear his voice in the streets. ²⁰ A bruised reed he shall not break, and a smoking flax he shall not quench until he sends forth judgment unto victory. ²¹ And in his name shall the Gentiles wait.

²² And, behold, a woman of Canaan having come out of the same borders cried unto him, saying, Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me; my daughter is sick, possessed by a demon. ²³ But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away, for she cries out after us. ²⁴ But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. ²⁵ Then she came and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. ²⁶ But he answered and said, It is not good to take the children’s bread and to cast it to the little dogs. ²⁷ And she said, Yes, Lord, yet the little dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table. ²⁸ Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith; be it unto thee even as thou desire. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

² and, behold, a man named Zacchaeus, who was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich. ³ And he sought to see who Jesus was and could not for the crowd because he was small of stature. ⁴ And running ahead, he climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was to pass that way.

³⁶ and looking upon Jesus as he walked, he said, Behold the Lamb of God! ³⁷ ¶ And the two disciples heard him speak and followed Jesus. ³⁸ Then Jesus turned and saw them following and said unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi (which is to say, being interpreted, Master), where dwellest thou? ³⁹ He said unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt and abode with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.

⁴³ ¶ The day following Jesus desired to go forth into Galilee and found Philip and said unto him, Follow me. ⁴⁴ Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. ⁴⁵ Philip found Nathanael and said unto him, We have found him of whom Moses in the law and the prophets wrote: Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. ⁴⁶ And Nathanael said unto him, Can any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip said unto him, Come and see. ⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him and said of him, Behold a true Israelite, in whom is no guile!

⁵ Then Jesus lifted up his eyes and saw a great company come unto him; he said unto Philip, From where shall we buy bread that these may eat? ⁶ But he said this to prove him, for he knew what he would do. ⁷ Philip answered him, Two hundred denarius of bread is not sufficient for them, that each one of them may take a little.

⁴⁰ And this is the will of him that sent me, That every one who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I will raise him up in the last day.

⁸ Philip said unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it will suffice us. ⁹ Jesus said unto him, Have I been such a long time with you, and yet thou hast not known me, Philip? He that has seen me has seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?

⁸ Now I say that Christ Jesus, was a minister of the circumcision, by the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers; ⁹ but that the Gentiles glorify God by mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess thee among the Gentiles and sing unto thy name. ¹⁰ And again he says, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people. ¹¹ And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and magnify him, all the peoples. ¹² And again, Isaiah says, There shall be a root of Jesse and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him the Gentiles shall wait for salvation.

⁵ ¶ These twelve Jesus sent forth and commanded them, saying, Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter into any city of the Samaritans,

¹³ ¶ And they brought young children to him that he should touch them, and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. ¹⁴ And Jesus seeing it, became angry and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me and hinder them not, for of such is the kingdom of God.

⁴⁹ And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out demons in thy name; and we forbade him, because he does not follow with us. ⁵⁰ And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not, for he that is not against us is for us.

⁴⁰ One of the two who heard John speak and followed him was Andrew, brother of Simon Peter. ⁴¹ He first found his own brother Simon and said unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

⁸ One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said unto him,

⁵ And now, saith the LORD, he that formed me from the womb to be his slave, so that Jacob might be converted unto him. But if Israel will not be gathered, even so, yet I shall be esteemed in the eyes of the LORD, and my God shall be my strength. ⁶ And he said, It is a light thing that thou should be my slave to wake up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the desolations of Israel; I have also given thee for a light to the Gentiles that thou may be my saving health unto the end of the earth.

¹⁰ ¶ With all this the LORD chose to bruise him; subjecting him to grief. When he shall have offered his soul for atonement, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the will of the LORD shall be prospered in his hand. ¹¹ He shall see of the travail of his soul and shall be satisfied. And by his knowledge shall my righteous slave justify many, for he shall bear their iniquities. ¹² Therefore I will divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil unto the strong because he has poured out his soul unto death, and he was numbered with the rebellious, having born the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

⁵ Behold, thou shalt call a people that thou knowest not, and Gentiles that did not know thee shall run unto thee because of the LORD thy God and for the Holy One of Israel, for he has honoured thee.

⁹ ¶ For the isles shall wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish from the first, to bring thy sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, unto the name of the LORD thy God, and to the Holy One of Israel, who has glorified thee.

³¹ ¶ When the Son of man shall come in his glory and all the holy angels with him, then he shall sit upon the throne of his glory,

⁴¹ And he came the third time and said unto them, Sleep on now and rest; it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of the sinners.

¹⁶ His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of him and that they had done these things unto him.

¹ ¶ Jesus spoke these words and lifted up his eyes to heaven and said, Father, the hour is come; clarify thy Son, that thy Son may also clarify thee, ² as thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. ³ And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. ⁴ I have clarified thee on the earth; I have finished the work which thou didst give me to do. ⁵ And now, O Father, clarify thou me with thine own self with that clarity which I had with thee before the world was.

⁹ I pray for them; I do not pray for the world, but for those whom thou hast given me; for they are thine. ¹⁰ And all my things are thine, and thine are mine; and I have been clarified in them.

⁹ But ye are the chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, an acquired people, that ye should show forth the virtues of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. ¹⁰ Ye who in the time past were not a people, but are now the people of God, who in the time past had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

¹⁵ My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaves to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.

²² ¶ I will declare thy name unto my brethren; in the midst of the congregation I will praise thee. ²³ Ye that fear the LORD, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel. ²⁴ For he has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the poor in spirit; neither has he hid his face from him, but when he cried unto him, he heard. ²⁵ My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation; I will pay my vows before those that fear him. ²⁶ The poor shall eat and be satisfied: those that seek him shall praise the LORD; your heart shall live for ever. ²⁷ All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn unto the LORD; and all the families of the Gentiles shall worship before thee. ²⁸ For the kingdom is the LORD’s, and he shall have dominion over the Gentiles. ²⁹ All those that are fat upon earth shall eat and worship; all those that go down to the dust shall bow before him; and no one can keep his own soul alive. ³⁰ A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation. ³¹ They shall come and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he has done this.

¹⁶ There shall be planted a handful of grain in the earth upon the tops of the mountains; its fruit shall thunder like Lebanon; and out of the city they shall blossom like the grass of the earth.

³² And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. ³³ This he said, signifying what death he should die.

³⁶ Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not brought to life, unless it dies first; ³⁷ and that which thou sowest, thou sowest not the body that shall be, but bare grain: it may be of wheat or of some other grain; ³⁸ but God gives it a body as it has pleased him, and to each seed its own body.

⁹ But we see this same Jesus, crowned with glory and honour, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. ¹⁰ ¶ For it was expedient that he, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, preparing to bring forth many sons in his glory, should perfect the author of their saving health through sufferings.

⁹ After this I saw, and, behold, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations and kindreds and peoples and tongues stood before the throne and before the Lamb clothed with long white robes and palms in their hands ¹⁰ and cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation unto him who is seated upon the throne of our God and unto the Lamb. ¹¹ And all the angels stood round about the throne and about the elders and the four animals; and they fell upon their faces before the throne and worshipped God, ¹² saying, Amen: The blessing and the glory and the wisdom and the thanksgiving and the honour and the power and the might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen. ¹³ ¶ And one of the elders responded and asked me, Who are these who are arrayed in long white robes? and where did they come from? ¹⁴ And I said unto him, lord, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are those who came out of great tribulation and have washed their long robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. ¹⁵ Therefore, they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple, and he that is seated on the throne shall dwell among them. ¹⁶ They shall hunger no more neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun be thrust upon them nor any other heat. ¹⁷ For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall govern them and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters, and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

³⁰ And he went in also unto Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah and served with him yet another seven years. ³¹ ¶ And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb; but Rachel was barren. ³² And Leah conceived and gave birth to a son, and she called his name Reuben; for she said, Surely the LORD has looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me. ³³ And she conceived again and gave birth to a son; and said, Because the LORD has heard that I was hated, he has therefore given me this son also; and she called his name Simeon.

¹⁷ ¶ Therefore I hated life because every work that is wrought under the sun was grievous unto me; for all was vanity and vexation of spirit.

³⁹ He that finds his life shall lose it, and he that loses his life for my sake shall find it.

²⁵ For whosoever desires to save his life shall lose it, and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

²⁹ And every one that has forsaken houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands for my name’s sake shall receive a hundredfold and shall inherit eternal life.

³⁵ For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.

²³ And he said to them all, If anyone will come after me, let them deny themself and take up their cross {Gr. stauros – stake} daily and follow me. ²⁴ For whosoever desires to save his soul shall lose it, but whosoever will lose his soul for my sake, the same shall save it.

²⁶ If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brethren and sisters, and even his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

³³ Whosoever shall seek to save his soul shall lose it, and whosoever shall lose it shall cause it to live.

²⁴ But none of these things move me, neither do I count my life dear unto myself, only that I might finish my course with joy and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

¹³ Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

³⁵ women received their dead raised to life again, and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance that they might obtain a better resurrection;

¹¹ And they have overcome him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

²⁴ But my slave Caleb, because there was another spirit in him, and he proved to follow after me, I will bring him into the land that he entered into, and his seed shall receive it by inheritance,

¹¹ Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they were not perfect in following me,

³⁰ Therefore, the LORD God of Israel said, I had said indeed that thy house and the house of thy father should walk before me for ever, but now the LORD said, It shall never be; for those that honor me I will honor, and those that lightly esteem me shall be vile.

¹⁵ As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake with thy likeness.

¹⁵ He shall call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and glorify him.

¹⁸ ¶ Whosoever keeps the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof, so he that waits on his master shall be honoured.

²⁴ ¶ Then Jesus said unto his disciples, If anyone will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross {Gr. stauros – stake} and follow me.

²¹ His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful slave; thou hast been faithful over a few things; I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

³⁴ And calling the multitude unto him with his disciples, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross {Gr. stauros – stake} and follow me.

⁴⁶ And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

²³ And he said to them all, If anyone will come after me, let them deny themself and take up their cross {Gr. stauros – stake} daily and follow me.

²⁷ My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me;

¹⁶ Verily, verily, I say unto you, The slave is not greater than his lord; neither is the apostle greater than he that sent him.

³ And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

¹⁵ ¶ If ye love me, keep my commandments;

²¹ He that has my commandments and keeps them, he it is that loves me; and he that loves me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him and will manifest myself to him. ²² Judas, not Iscariot, said unto him, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us and not unto the world?strong> ²³ Jesus answered and said unto him, He who loves me will keep my words, and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him and dwell with him.

²⁰ Remember the word that I said unto you, The slave is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my word, they will keep yours also.

²⁴ ¶ Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am, that they may behold my clarity, which thou hast given me, for thou hast loved me from before the foundation of the world.

²² Jesus said unto him, If I will that he tarry until I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

¹ ¶ Paul, slave of Jesus, the Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God

¹⁸ For he that in these things serves the Christ is well pleasing unto God and approved of men.

⁵ For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your slaves for Jesus’ sake.

⁸ We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

¹⁰ ¶ For do I now persuade men or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the slave of Christ.

¹ ¶ Be ye therefore imitators of God, as dear children ² and walk in charity even as the Christ also has loved us and has given himself for us as an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.

²³ For I am in a strait between the two, having a desire to depart and to be with Christ, which is far better:

²⁴ knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance, for ye serve the Lord Christ.

¹² Epaphras, who is one of you, a slave of Christ, salutes you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand firm, perfect and fulfilled in all the will of God.

¹⁷ then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord. ¹⁸ Therefore comfort one another with these words.

¹ ¶ Simon Peter, slave and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those that have obtained like precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ:

³ For this is the charity of God, that we keep his commandments, and his commandments are not grievous.

¹ ¶ Jude, slave of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to those that are called, sanctified in God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ:

⁴ These are those who are not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are those who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These are redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.

³ for my soul is full of troubles, and my life draws near unto Sheol.

¹⁵ What shall I say? He has both spoken unto me, and he himself has done it; I shall walk softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul.

³ He is despised and rejected among men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with weakness; and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

²⁵ ¶ At that time Jesus answered and said, I praise thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and understanding and hast revealed them unto children.

³⁸ Then he said unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death; tarry ye here and watch with me. ³⁹ And he went a little further and fell on his face, praying and saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

⁴² He went away again the second time and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me except I drink it, thy will be done.

⁵³ Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? ⁵⁴ But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled that thus it must be?

³³ And he takes with him Peter and James and John and began to be alarmed and to be anguished ³⁴ and said unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death; tarry ye here, and watch. ³⁵ And he went forward a little and fell on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. ³⁶ And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me; nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.

⁴⁹ I am come to cast fire into the earth; and what do I desire, except that it be kindled? ⁵⁰ But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how I am anguished until it is accomplished!

⁴⁴ And being in agony, he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

⁵³ When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me; but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.

³³ ¶ When Jesus therefore saw her weeping and the Jews also weeping who came with her, he became enraged in the Spirit and stirred himself up ³⁴ and said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see. ³⁵ Jesus wept.

⁴¹ Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus, lifting up his eyes, said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.

²¹ When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit and testified and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

³⁷ Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I AM king. To this end I was born, and for this cause I came into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth hears my voice.

¹⁵ This is a faithful saying and worthy of acceptation by all, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am first.

¹⁴ ¶ Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same, that through death he might destroy him that had the empire of death, that is, the devil,

⁷ Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, was heard because of his reverent fear;

⁵ Therefore when he came into the world, he said, Sacrifice and offering thou dost not desire, but a body hast thou prepared me; ⁶ in burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. ⁷ ¶ Then said I, Behold, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me) to do thy will, O God. ⁸ Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou dost not desire, neither hadst pleasure therein, which are offered by the law; ⁹ then he said, Behold, I come to do thy will, O God. He took away the first, that he may establish the second.

³ And he said unto me, Thou art my slave, O Israel; in thee I will glory. ⁴ But I said, I have laboured in vain; I have spent my strength for nothing, and in vain; yet surely my judgment is before the LORD and my recompense with my God. ⁵ And now, saith the LORD, he that formed me from the womb to be his slave, so that Jacob might be converted unto him. But if Israel will not be gathered, even so, yet I shall be esteemed in the eyes of the LORD, and my God shall be my strength. ⁶ And he said, It is a light thing that thou should be my slave to wake up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the desolations of Israel; I have also given thee for a light to the Gentiles that thou may be my saving health unto the end of the earth. ⁷ ¶ Thus has the LORD said, the Redeemer of Israel, his Holy One, to him whom man despises, to him whom the Gentiles abhor, to the slave of the tyrants, Kings shall see and be raised up as princes and shall worship because of the LORD, for faithful is the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen thee.

¹⁷ and, behold, a voice from the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

⁵ While he yet spoke, behold, a cloud of light overshadowed them, and, behold, a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

¹¹ and there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my dear Son, in whom I delight.

⁷ And a cloud came that overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son; hear ye him.

³⁶ And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me; nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.

²² and the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee is my delight.

³⁵ And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son; hear him.

³ Jesus answered, Neither has this man sinned nor his parents, but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

⁴ When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

⁴⁰ Jesus said unto her, Did I not say unto thee that if thou wouldest believe thou shalt see the glory of God? ⁴¹ Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus, lifting up his eyes, said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. ⁴² And I knew that thou hearest me always, but because of the people who stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.

¹¹ Then Jesus said unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath; the cup which my Father has given me, shall I not drink it?

⁷ That in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

¹⁰ To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} the manifold wisdom of God,

²¹ unto him be glory in the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} by Christ Jesus throughout all generations of the ages of the ages. Amen.

⁶ being confident of this very thing, that he who has begun a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ. ⁷ ¶ Even as it is right for me to think this of you all because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are joint partakers of my grace. ⁸ For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ. ⁹ ¶ And this I pray that your charity may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all perception, ¹⁰ that ye may approve the best, that ye may be sincere and without offense until the day of Christ, ¹¹ being filled with fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

¹⁷ For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

⁹ And they sang a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book and to open its seals, for thou wast slain and hast redeemed us unto God by thy blood, out of every kindred and tongue and people and nation ¹⁰ and hast made us unto our God kings and priests, and we shall reign on the earth. ¹¹ And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and of the animals and of the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; ¹² saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to take power and riches and wisdom and strength and honour and glory and blessing. ¹³ And I heard every creature which is in heaven and upon the earth and under the earth and such as are upon the sea and all that are in it, saying, Blessing and honour and glory and power, be unto him that is seated upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. ¹⁴ And the four animals said, Amen. And the twenty-four elders fell on their faces and worshipped him that lives for ever and ever.

¹⁶ ¶ And it came to pass on the third day when the morning came, that there were thunders and lightnings and a thick cloud upon the mount and the voice of the shofar {ram’s horn} exceeding loud, so that all the people that were in the camp trembled.

¹⁸ ¶ And all the people saw the thunderings and the lightnings and the noise of the trumpet and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood afar off.

² Hear attentively his terrible voice and the word that goes out of his mouth. ³ He shall place it straight under the whole of the heavens, and his light shall extend unto the ends of the earth. ⁴ After it shall the sound roar; his valiant voice shall thunder; and he will not stay them even when his voice is heard. ⁵ God shall thunder marvelously with his voice; he does great things, which we cannot comprehend.

⁹ Hast thou an arm like God? And canst thou thunder with a voice like him?

⁵ And the thunder of the cherubim’s wings was heard even to the outer court as the voice of the Almighty God when he speaks.

⁸ For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit; but the Pharisees confess both. ⁹ And there arose a great cry; and the scribes that were of the Pharisees’ part arose and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man, but if a spirit or an angel has spoken to him, let us not fight against God.

¹ ¶ And I saw when the Lamb had opened the first seal, and I heard the first of the four animals, saying as with a voice of thunder, Come and see.

⁵ And the angel took the censer and filled it with fire of the altar and cast it into the earth; and there were voices and thunderings and lightnings and an earthquake.

¹⁹ And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and the ark of his testament was seen in his temple: and there were lightnings and voices and thunderings and earthquakes and great hail.

² And I heard a voice from heaven as the voice of many waters and as the voice of a great thunder; and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps;

¹ ¶ And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power, and the earth was illuminated with his glory. ² And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of demons, and the hold of every unclean spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.

³⁴ But I receive not testimony from man, but I say these things that ye might be saved.

¹⁵ And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, in order that ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.

⁹ For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor that ye through his poverty might be enriched.

¹⁵ and I will put enmity between thee and the woman and between thy seed and her seed; that seed shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

²⁴ ¶ Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered?

²⁸ But if I cast out the demons by the Spirit of God, then certainly the kingdom of God is come unto you.

¹⁷ ¶ And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject unto us in thy name. ¹⁸ And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. ¹⁹ Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

²² For the Father judges no man but has committed all judgment unto the Son ²³ that everyone should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that does not honour the Son does not honour the Father who has sent him. ²⁴ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that hears my word and believes him that sent me has eternal life and shall not come into judgment but has passed from death unto life. ²⁵ Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour shall come, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they that hear shall live. ²⁶ For as the Father has life in himself, so has he given to the Son to have life in himself ²⁷ and has also given him power and authority to execute judgment because he is the Son of man.

³⁰ Hereafter I will not talk much with you, for the prince of this world comes and has nothing in me.

⁸ And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin and of righteousness and of judgment: ⁹ of sin, because they do not believe in me; ¹⁰ of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; ¹¹ of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

¹⁸ to open their eyes and to turn them from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive remission of sins and inheritance among those who are sanctified by the faith that is in me.

⁴ In whom the god of this age has blinded the understanding of those who do not believe, that the light of the gospel of the glory of the Christ, who is the image of God, should not shine in them.

¹ ¶ And he has made you alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, ² in which in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the will of the prince of the power of this air, the spirit that now works in the sons of disobedience,

¹² For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the lords of this age, rulers of this darkness, against spiritual wickedness in the heavens.

¹⁵ and having spoiled the principalities and the powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

⁸ He that commits sin is of the devil; for the devil sins from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God appeared, that he might undo the works of the devil.

⁴ ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.

¹⁹ And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in wickedness.

⁹ And the great dragon was cast out, the serpent of old, who is called Devil and the Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. ¹⁰ And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation and virtue and the kingdom of our God and the power of his Christ; for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, who accused them before our God day and night. ¹¹ And they have overcome him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

² And he laid hold on the dragon, the serpent of old, which is the Devil and Satan and bound him a thousand years ³ and cast him into the bottomless pit and shut him up and set a seal upon it, that he should deceive the Gentiles no more, until the thousand years should be fulfilled; and after it is necessary that he be loosed a little while.

²² And when a man shall have committed a sin worthy of death, and he is to be put to death, and thou shall have hung him on a tree, ²³ his body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt without fail bury him that same day (for he that is hanged is accursed of God) that thy land not be defiled, which the LORD thy God gives thee for an inheritance.

⁹ ¶ And Absalom met the slaves of David. And Absalom rode upon a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was taken up between the heaven and the earth; and the mule that was under him went away.

¹⁶ For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. ¹⁷ I may count all my bones: they look and stare upon me. ¹⁸ They part my garments among them and cast lots upon my vesture.

⁴ Draw me after thee, we will run. The king has brought me into his chambers; we will be glad and rejoice in thee; we will remember thy love more than the wine; the upright love thee.

⁶ And he said, It is a light thing that thou should be my slave to wake up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the desolations of Israel; I have also given thee for a light to the Gentiles that thou may be my saving health unto the end of the earth.

⁴ I drew them with human cords, with bands of love, and I was to them as those that raise the yoke from upon their cheeks, and I fed them.

⁷ The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

¹⁴ And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up,

⁴⁴ No one can come to me unless the Father who has sent me draws him, and I will raise him up in the last day.

²⁸ Then Jesus said unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then ye shall know that I AM and that I do nothing of myself, but as my Father has taught me, I speak these things.

³⁴ The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that the Christ abides for ever; and how sayest thou, It is expedient that the Son of man be lifted up? Who is this Son of man?

¹⁷ And he, bearing his cross {Gr. stauros – stake}, went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew, Golgotha,

¹⁷ For if by one offense, death reigned because of one man; much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of gifts and of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus the Christ. ¹⁸ Therefore, in the same manner that by the iniquity of one guilt came upon all men unto condemnation, even so by the righteousness of one, grace came upon all men unto justification of life. ¹⁹ For as by one man’s disobedience, many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

¹³ Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us, (for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangs on a tree),

⁶ who gave himself in ransom for all, the testimony of which was confirmed at the time,

⁹ But we see this same Jesus, crowned with glory and honour, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

²⁴ he himself bore our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness; by whose wound ye were healed.

¹⁸ ¶ For the Christ also has once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in spirit,

⁹ And they sang a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book and to open its seals, for thou wast slain and hast redeemed us unto God by thy blood, out of every kindred and tongue and people and nation

³² that the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spoke, signifying what death he should die.

¹⁹ This he spoke, signifying by what death he should clarify God. And when he had spoken this, he said unto him, Follow me.

¹³ He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever.

⁷ In his days shall righteousness flourish and abundance of peace until there is no longer any moon.

³⁶ His seed shall endure for ever and his throne as the sun before me. ³⁷ It shall be established for ever as the moon and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.

⁴ The LORD has sworn and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

⁷ The multitude of his dominion and the peace shall have no end upon the throne of David and upon his Kingdom, ordering it and confirming it in judgment and in righteousness from now on even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of the hosts will perform this.

⁸ He was taken from prison and from judgment; and who shall count his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living; for the rebellion of my people he was smitten.

²⁴ And David my slave shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd; they shall also walk within my rights and keep my statutes and do them. ²⁵ And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my slave, in which your fathers have dwelt; and they shall dwell therein, even they and their sons and their son’s sons for ever; and my slave David shall be their prince for ever.

⁴⁴ And in the days of those kings the God of heaven shall raise up a kingdom which eternally shall never become corrupted, and this kingdom shall not be left to another people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

¹⁴ And he gave him dominion and glory and kingdom; and all the peoples, nations, and tongues served him: his dominion is an eternal dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom such that it shall never be corrupted.

²⁷ and that the kingdom and the dominion, and the majesty of the kingdoms under the whole heaven, be given to the holy people of the most High, His kingdom shall be an eternal kingdom, and all the dominions shall serve him and hear him.

⁷ and I will make her that is lame to be heirs, and her that was cast off a strong nation, and the LORD shall reign over them in the mount of Zion from now, and for evermore.

²⁰ And Jesus said unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the heaven have nests, but the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head.

¹³ ¶ When Jesus came into the parts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Who do men say that I the Son of man am?

¹⁰ And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this?

⁴² saying, What think ye of the Christ? Whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David. ⁴³ He said unto them, How then does David in Spirit call him Lord, saying, ⁴⁴ The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand until I make thine enemies thy footstool? ⁴⁵ If David then calls him Lord, how is he his son?

¹⁴ And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up, ¹⁵ that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. ¹⁶ For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

⁵³ Art thou greater than our father Abraham who died? and the prophets died; whom makest thou thyself? ⁵⁴ Jesus answered, If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing; it is my Father that glorifies me, of whom ye say that he is your God; ⁵⁵ yet ye have not known him, but I know him; and if I should say, I do not know him, I shall be a liar like unto you; but I know him and keep his word. ⁵⁶ Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day, and he saw it and was glad. ⁵⁷ Then the Jews said unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? ⁵⁸ Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I AM.

³⁴ Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?

³² And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

²⁵ But this comes to pass that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

¹⁹ ¶ Now we know that all that the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may submit themselves unto God.

¹⁸ Therefore, in the same manner that by the iniquity of one guilt came upon all men unto condemnation, even so by the righteousness of one, grace came upon all men unto justification of life.

²² ¶ Let their table become a snare before them, and that which should have been for their prosperity, let it become a stumbling block. ²³ Let their eyes be darkened that they see not and make their loins continually to shake. ²⁴ Pour out thine indignation upon them, and let thy wrathful anger take hold of them. ²⁵ Let their palace be desolate, and let no one dwell in their tents. ²⁶ For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten, and they boast that thou hast slain their enemies. ²⁷ Add iniquity unto their iniquity, and let them not come into thy righteousness. ²⁸ Let them be blotted out of the book of the living and not be written with the righteous.

¹⁹ The way of the wicked is as darkness; they do not know in what they stumble.

⁵ O house of Jacob, come and let us walk in the light of the LORD.

⁶ I the LORD have called thee in righteousness and will hold thee by thine hand; I will keep thee and place thee as my covenant unto the people as light unto the Gentiles ⁷ that thou might open the eyes of the blind, that thou might bring out the prisoners from the prison and those that sit in darkness out of the prison house.

¹⁶ Give glory to the LORD your God before he causes darkness and before your feet stumble in mountains of darkness, and while ye look for light, he turns it into the shadow of death and makes it gross darkness. ¹⁷ But if ye will not hear this, my soul shall weep in secret because of your pride; and weeping bitterly, my eyes shall be undone in tears because the LORD’s flock was carried away captive.

⁵ ¶ And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness apprehended it not. ⁶ There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. ⁷ The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. ⁸ He was not the Light, but was sent to bear witness of the Light. ⁹ That Word was the true Light, which lightens every man that comes into this world.

³³ Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while I shall be with you, and then I shall go unto him that sent me.

¹² ¶ Then Jesus spoke again unto them, saying, I AM the light of the world; he that follows me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life.

⁴ It is expedient that I do the works of him that sent me while it is day; the night comes, when no one can work. ⁵ As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

¹⁰ But he who walks in the night stumbles because there is no light in him.

³⁶ While ye have the Light, believe in the Light that ye may be the sons of light. Jesus spoke these things and departed and hid himself from them.

³⁹ Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again, ⁴⁰ He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, that they should not see with their eyes nor understand with their heart and be converted, and I should heal them.

⁴⁶ I am come as a light into the world that whosoever believes in me should not abide in darkness.

¹⁶ ¶ A little while, and ye shall not see me; and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.

⁷ What then? Israel has not obtained that which he seeks after; but the elect have obtained it, and the rest were blinded ⁸ (according as it is written, God has given them the spirit of anguish, eyes with which they do not see and ears with which they do not hear) unto this day. ⁹ And David says, Let their table be turned into a snare and a net and a stumblingblock and a recompense unto them; ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkened that they may not see, and bow down their back always.

¹² The night is past, and the day is come; let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us clothe ourselves with the weapons of light. ¹³ Let us walk honestly, as in the day, not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. ¹⁴ But be clothed with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not listen to the flesh, to fulfil its desires.

¹⁴ (And thus their senses became hardened, for until this day remains the same veil not uncovered in the reading of the old testament, which veil is taken away in Christ.

⁸ For in another time ye were darkness, but now ye are light in the Lord: walk as children of light;

¹⁴ Therefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest and arise from the dead, and the Christ shall shine upon thee. ¹⁵ See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

⁵ Ye are all the sons of light, and the sons of the day; we are not of the night, nor of darkness. ⁶ ¶ Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. ⁷ For those that sleep in the night, and those that are drunken are drunken in the night. ⁸ But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and charity, and for a helmet, the hope of saving health.

⁷ ¶ Therefore, as the Holy Spirit saith, Today if ye will hear his voice, ⁸ harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:

⁶ If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth; ⁷ But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have communion with him in the midst of us, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son cleanses us from all sin.

⁸ Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which is the truth in him and in you, because the darkness is past, and the true light now shines. ⁹ He that says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. ¹⁰ He that loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no occasion of stumbling in him. ¹¹ But he that hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness and does not know where he goes, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

¹ ¶ Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.

⁸ And the lord commended the unjust steward because he had done discreetly; for the sons of this age are in their generation more prudent than the sons of light.

²¹ But he that does truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

⁵⁹ Then they took up stones to cast at him, but Jesus concealed himself and went out of the temple, and going through the midst of them, went away.

³⁹ ¶ Therefore they sought again to take him, but he escaped out of their hand ⁴⁰ and went away again beyond Jordan into the place where John at first baptized, and there he abode.

⁵⁴ Jesus therefore no longer walked openly among the Jews, but went from there unto a country near to the wilderness into a city called Ephraim and there continued with his disciples.

⁴⁷ For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles that thou should be for saving health unto the ends of the earth. ⁴⁸ And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord, and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

⁵ Ye are all the sons of light, and the sons of the day; we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

⁸ But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and charity, and for a helmet, the hope of saving health.

²⁰ Then he began to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done because they repented not:

¹¹ He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

²⁴ If I had not done among them works which no other man has done, they would not have sin; but now they have seen them and hate both me and my Father.

²⁰ And for this cause Hezekiah, the king, and the prophet Isaiah, the son of Amoz, prayed and cried to heaven.

³ For they did not get the land in inheritance by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them, but thy right hand and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance because thy delight was in them.

¹⁰ Behold, the Lord GOD will come with a strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him. ¹¹ He shall feed his flock like a shepherd; he shall gather the lambs with his arm and carry them in his bosom and shall gently lead those that are with young.

⁵ My righteousness is near; my saving health is gone forth, and my arms shall judge the people; the isles shall wait upon me; and on my arm shall they place their hope.

⁹ ¶ Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days, in ages past. Art thou not he who cut off the proud one, and he who smote the dragon?

¹ ¶ Who shall believe our report? and upon whom shall the arm of the LORD be manifested?

⁷ Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,

¹⁷ And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon son of Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed it unto thee, but my Father who is in the heavens.

³⁵ And they crucified him and parted his garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my raiment did they cast lots.

¹² While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name; those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition, that the scripture might be fulfilled.

²⁴ They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be; that the scripture might be fulfilled, which says, They parted my garments among them, and for my raiment they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.

³⁶ For these things were done that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken. ³⁷ And again another scripture says, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

²⁸ was returning and sitting in his chariot reading Isaiah the prophet. ²⁹ Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near and join thyself to this chariot. ³⁰ And Philip ran there to him and heard him read the prophet Isaiah and said, Dost thou understand what thou readest?

²⁷ For those that dwell at Jerusalem and their princes, because they knew him not nor yet the voices of the prophets who are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him. ²⁸ And without finding cause of death in him, yet they asked Pilate that he should be slain. ²⁹ And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a sepulchre.

¹⁶ But not everyone hearkens unto the gospel. For Isaiah says, Lord, who has believed our report?

²⁰ But Isaiah is very bold and says, I was found by those that did not seek me; I manifested myself unto those that did not ask after me.

²⁴ but unto those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

¹⁴ (And thus their senses became hardened, for until this day remains the same veil not uncovered in the reading of the old testament, which veil is taken away in Christ. ¹⁵ But even unto this day when Moses is read, the veil is upon their heart. ¹⁶ Nevertheless when they convert to the Lord, the veil shall be taken away.) ¹⁷ For the Lord is the Spirit, and where that Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. ¹⁸ Therefore we all, beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord with uncovered face, are transformed from glory to glory into the same likeness, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

³ But if our gospel is hid, it is hid to those that are lost, ⁴ In whom the god of this age has blinded the understanding of those who do not believe, that the light of the gospel of the glory of the Christ, who is the image of God, should not shine in them. ⁵ For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your slaves for Jesus’ sake. ⁶ For the God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts to bring forth the light of the knowledge of the clarity of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

¹⁶ to reveal his Son in me that I might preach him among the Gentiles, immediately I did not confer with flesh and blood, ¹⁷ that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him; ¹⁸ illuminating the eyes of your understanding, that ye may know what is the hope of his calling and what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints ¹⁹ and what is the exceeding greatness of his power in us who believe, by the operation of the power of his strength, ²⁰ which operated in the Christ, raising him from the dead and setting him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,

⁹ ¶ Then he said, Go and tell this people, Hear indeed, but do not understand; and see indeed, but do not perceive. ¹⁰ Make the heart of this people fat and make their ears heavy and blind their eyes that they not see with their eyes, nor hear with their ears, nor understand with their heart, nor convert and there be healing for him.

¹⁸ They did not know nor understand; for he has anointed their eyes that they not see and their hearts that they not understand. ¹⁹ He does not return to his right mind; he does not have knowledge nor intelligence to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; I have also baked bread upon the coals of it; I have roasted flesh and eaten it and shall I make the residue of it an abomination? Do I have to humble myself before the trunk of a tree? ²⁰ The ashes feed him; his deceived heart inclines him, that he not deliver his soul and say, Is not the lie at my right hand?

⁴⁴ How can ye believe, who take glory one from another, and seek not the glory that comes only from God?

³⁸ But if I do, though ye do not believe me, believe the works that ye may know and believe that the Father is in me and I in him.

¹⁴ having their eyes full of adultery, and not knowing how to cease from sin, baiting unstable souls, having their heart exercised in covetous practices; cursed sons,

²¹ And the LORD said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand; but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.

³ And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt.

¹³ And Pharaoh’s heart became hard, that he hearkened not unto them as the LORD had said.

⁴ And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart that he shall follow after them; and I will be glorified in Pharaoh and in all his host; and the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD. And they did so.

⁸ And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and he pursued after the sons of Israel, but the sons of Israel had already left with great power.

¹⁷ And behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians that they shall follow them: and I will be glorified in Pharaoh and in all his host, in his chariots, and in his horsemen.

⁴ Yet the LORD has not given you a heart to perceive and eyes to see and ears to hear until today.

²⁰ For it was of the LORD to harden their hearts that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly and that they might have no mercy, but that he might destroy them, as the LORD had commanded Moses.

²⁰ And the LORD said, Who shall persuade Ahab that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one said in this manner and another said in that manner.

² Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak; O LORD, heal me, for my bones are troubled.

⁴ I said, LORD, be merciful unto me; heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee.

¹⁰ He who smote many Gentiles and slew mighty kings, ¹¹ Sihon king of the Amorites and Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan ¹² gave their land for a heritage, a heritage unto Israel his people. ¹³ Thy name, O LORD, is eternal, and thy memorial, O LORD, from generation to generation. ¹⁴ For the LORD will judge his people, and he will repent himself concerning his slaves. ¹⁵ ¶ The idols of the Gentiles are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands. ¹⁶ They have a mouth, but they do not speak; they have eyes, but they do not see; ¹⁷ they have ears, but they do not hear; neither is there any spirit in their mouths. ¹⁸ Let those that make them become like unto them and every one that trusts in them.

³ He heals the broken hearted, and he binds up their wounds.

¹⁰ Make the heart of this people fat and make their ears heavy and blind their eyes that they not see with their eyes, nor hear with their ears, nor understand with their heart, nor convert and there be healing for him.

¹¹ LORD, when thy hand is withdrawn, they will not see: but they shall see in the end and be ashamed with the zeal of the people. And fire shall consume thine enemies.

¹⁰ For the LORD has extended upon you the spirit of deep sleep and has closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, he has covered the seers with sleep.

¹⁹ Who is blind, but my slave? or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? Who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the slave of the LORD, ²⁰ who sees many things and does not warn; who opens his ears and does not hear.

⁵ But he was wounded for our rebellions; he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and by his stripes healing was provided for us.

¹⁸ I have seen his ways and will heal him: I will lead him also and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners. ¹⁹ I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off and to him that is near, said the LORD; and healed him.

²² Return, ye rebellious sons, and I will heal your rebellion. Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art the LORD our God.

²¹ Hear now this, O foolish people and without heart, who have eyes and do not see; who have ears, and do not hear:

² Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a rebellious house, which have eyes to see and do not see; they have ears to hear and do not hear; for they are a rebellious house.

⁹ And the prophet when he is deceived and speaks a word, I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him and will destroy him from among my people Israel.

¹ ¶ Come, and let us return unto the LORD; for he has torn, and he will heal us; he has smitten, and he will bind us up.

⁴ ¶ I will heal their rebellion; I will love them freely; for my anger is turned away from them.

¹³ Therefore, I speak to them in parables because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. ¹⁴ And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which says, By hearing ye shall hear and shall not understand, and seeing ye shall see and shall not perceive; ¹⁵ for this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and should understand with their heart and should be converted, and I should heal them.

¹⁴ Let them alone; they are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into a pit.

¹² that seeing they may see and not perceive, and hearing they may hear and not understand, lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

⁵² For they had not yet derived understanding in the loaves, for their hearts were blind.

¹⁷ And as Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why argue ye because ye have no bread? Do ye not consider nor understand? is your heart yet blind? ¹⁸ Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?

¹⁸ The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those that are broken,

¹⁰ And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the others in parables that seeing they might not see and hearing they might not understand.

³⁹ ¶ And Jesus said, For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see might see and that those who see might be blinded.

¹⁹ Repent ye therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out, for the times of refreshing of the presence of the Lord are come;

³ And they, being accompanied by some from the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles, and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.

²⁶ saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see and not perceive;

¹⁸ Therefore he has mercy on whom he will have mercy, and he hardens whom he will.

⁷ What then? Israel has not obtained that which he seeks after; but the elect have obtained it, and the rest were blinded ⁸ (according as it is written, God has given them the spirit of anguish, eyes with which they do not see and ears with which they do not hear) unto this day. ⁹ And David says, Let their table be turned into a snare and a net and a stumblingblock and a recompense unto them; ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkened that they may not see, and bow down their back always. ¹¹ I say then, Have they stumbled in such a manner that they should fall completely? No, in no wise; but rather through their fall, saving health is come unto the Gentiles to provoke them unto jealousy.

¹⁹ Brethren, if any of you have erred from the truth, and someone should convert him; ²⁰ let that one know, that whosoever causes the sinner to convert from the error of his way shall save a soul from death and shall cover a multitude of sins.

¹⁸ Then he said, I beseech thee, show me thy glory. ¹⁹ And he replied, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name that I AM before thee; and I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy and will show clemency on whom I will show clemency. ²⁰ He further said, Thou canst not see my face; for no man shall see me and live. ²¹ And the LORD continued saying, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon the rock; ²² and it shall come to pass while my glory passes by, that I will put thee in a cleft of the rock and will cover thee with my hand until I have passed by. ²³ Then I will take away my hand, and thou shalt see my back parts, but my face {Heb. faces} shall not be seen.

¹ ¶ In the year that king Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. ² Above it stood the seraphims; each one had six wings; with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. ³ And one cried out unto another and said, Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of the hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory. ⁴ And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried out, and the house was filled with smoke. ⁵ ¶ Then I said, Woe is me! for I am dead because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of the hosts.

²⁷ And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded this unto them in all the scriptures concerning himself.

¹⁴ And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth.

¹⁸ No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him.

³⁹ Search the scriptures, for in them ye think ye have eternal life; and they are those who testify of me.

⁹ Jesus said unto him, Have I been such a long time with you, and yet thou hast not known me, Philip? He that has seen me has seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?

⁴³ Unto him all the prophets give witness, that whosoever believes in him shall receive remission of sins through his name.

⁶ For the God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts to bring forth the light of the knowledge of the clarity of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

³ who being the brightness of his glory and the express image of his substance and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

¹¹ searching when and in what point of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, which announced beforehand the afflictions that were to come upon the Christ, and the glory that should follow them.

¹⁰ And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant and with thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus; worship God; for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

²⁵ ¶ The fear of man brings a snare, but whosoever puts his trust in the LORD shall be lifted up.

⁷ Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; do not fear the reproach of men, neither be afraid of their revilings.

¹¹ And of whom hast thou reverenced or feared? Why dost thou lie; that thou hast not remembered me, nor have I come to thy thought? Have I not held my peace even of old, and thou hast never feared me?

⁵ ¶ Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hate you, that deny you for my name’s sake, said, Let the LORD be glorified; but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed.

³² Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I also confess before my Father who is in the heavens.

⁶⁹ ¶ Now Peter sat outside in the patio; and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee. ⁷⁰ But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest. ⁷¹ And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him and said unto those that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth. ⁷² And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man. ⁷³ And after a while those that stood by came unto him and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them, for thy speech makes thee manifest. ⁷⁴ Then he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately a cock crew. ⁷⁵ And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, who said unto him, Before the cock crows, thou shalt deny me three times. And he went out and wept bitterly.

²² Blessed are ye when men shall hate you and when they shall separate you from their company and shall reproach you and cast out your name as evil for the sake of the Son of man.

⁸ Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God;

² the same came to Jesus by night and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that thou doest unless God is with him.

¹³ But no one spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews.

⁴⁸ Have any of the princes or of the Pharisees believed on him? ⁴⁹ But this people who do not know the law are cursed. ⁵⁰ Nicodemus said unto them (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them), ⁵¹ Does our law judge any man before it hears him and knows what he does?

²² These words spoke his parents because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had agreed already that if anyone did confess that he was the Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.

³⁴ They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.

² They shall put you out of the synagogues, and the hour will even come when whosoever kills you will think that he does God service.

³⁸ ¶ After these things, Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore and took the body of Jesus.

⁴¹ And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

¹⁰ For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto saving health.

¹² ¶ Beloved, think it not strange when you are tried by fire (which is done to prove you) as though some strange thing happened unto you, ¹³ but rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of the afflictions of the Christ, so that also in the revelation of his glory, ye may rejoice in triumph. ¹⁴ If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are ye; for the glory and the Spirit of God rests upon you; certainly on their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified. ¹⁵ So let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as desirous of the things of others. ¹⁶ But if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God on this behalf.

² In this know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ, is come in flesh is of God:

¹⁵ Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.

²⁹ All those that are fat upon earth shall eat and worship; all those that go down to the dust shall bow before him; and no one can keep his own soul alive.

² Therefore, when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They already have their reward.

⁵ But they do all their works that they may be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries and enlarge the borders of their garments ⁶ and love the first place at feasts and the chief seats in the synagogues ⁷ and greetings in the markets and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

¹⁵ And he said unto them, Ye are they who justify themselves before men, but God knows your hearts, for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

¹⁷ And he said unto him, Well done, thou good slave; because thou hast been faithful in a very little, thou shalt have authority over ten cities.

⁴¹ I do not receive glory from men.

⁵⁴ Jesus answered, If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing; it is my Father that glorifies me, of whom ye say that he is your God;

²⁶ If anyone serves me, let them follow me; and where I am, there shall my servant be also; the one that serves me, will my Father honour.

⁷ to those who persevered in well doing, glory and honour and incorruption, to those who seek eternal life;

⁵ Therefore, judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts; and then shall each one have praise of God.

¹⁸ For it is not he that commends himself that is approved, but whom the Lord commends.

⁶ nor did we seek glory of men neither of you nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome unto you as the apostles of Christ.

⁷ that the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold (which perishes, nevertheless it is tried with fire), might be found unto praise and glory and honour when Jesus, the Christ, is made manifest; ⁸ whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though at present ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory;

⁴ but let the interior adorning of the heart be without corruption, and of an agreeable spirit and peaceful, which is precious in the sight of God.

²⁰ ¶ Wisdom cries without; she utters her voice in the streets:

¹ ¶ Doth not wisdom cry, and give her voice to intelligence?

¹ ¶ Ho, every one that thirsts, come ye to the waters, and he that has no money; come ye, buy, and eat; come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. ² Why do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which does not satisfy? Hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. ³ Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an eternal covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

⁴⁰ He that receives you receives me, and he that receives me receives him that sent me.

³⁷ Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receives me; and whosoever shall receive me, receives not me, but him that sent me.

²⁴ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that hears my word and believes him that sent me has eternal life and shall not come into judgment but has passed from death unto life.

²⁸ Then Jesus cried out in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye know me, and ye know from where I come, but I have not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.

⁴³ And having said these things, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.

²⁰ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receives whomsoever I send receives me, and he that receives me receives him that sent me.

²¹ who by him do believe God, who raised him up from the dead and has given him glory: that your faith and hope might be in God.

⁴¹ Isaiah said these things when he saw his glory and spoke of him.

⁹ Jesus said unto him, Have I been such a long time with you, and yet thou hast not known me, Philip? He that has seen me has seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father? ¹⁰ Believest thou not that I am in the Father and the Father in me? The words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself; but the Father that dwells in me, he does the works.

¹⁵ who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature;

²⁰ But we know that the Son of God is come and has given us understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

⁹ For with thee is the fountain of life; in thy light shall we see light.

¹ ¶ Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.

⁷ that thou might open the eyes of the blind, that thou might bring out the prisoners from the prison and those that sit in darkness out of the prison house.

¹⁵ I will make waste mountains and hills and dry up all their grass, and I will make the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools.

² But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness be born, and in his wings he shall bring saving health; and ye shall go forth and jump like calves of the herd.

¹⁶ the people who sat in darkness saw great light, and to those who sat in the region and shadow of death, light is sprung up.

⁷⁶ And thou, child, shalt be called prophet of the Most High, for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways, ⁷⁷ giving knowledge of saving health unto his people for the remission of their sins ⁷⁸ through the bowels of mercy of our God, whereby the dayspring from on high has visited us ⁷⁹ to give light to those that dwell in darkness and in the shadow of death, to direct our feet into the way of peace.

³² a light to be revealed unto the Gentiles and the glory of thy people Israel.

⁴ In him was life, and the life was the light of men. ⁵ ¶ And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness apprehended it not.

⁹ That Word was the true Light, which lightens every man that comes into this world.

¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that the light is come into the world, and men loved darkness more than the light because their deeds were evil.

⁵ As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

³⁵ Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the Light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you; for he that walks in darkness does not know where he goes. ³⁶ While ye have the Light, believe in the Light that ye may be the sons of light. Jesus spoke these things and departed and hid himself from them.

¹⁴ Therefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest and arise from the dead, and the Christ shall shine upon thee.

¹ ¶ That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life ² (for the life is manifested, and we also saw it and bear witness and show unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father and appeared unto us); ³ that which we have seen and heard we declare unto you, that ye also may have communion with us; and truly our communion is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.

⁸ Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which is the truth in him and in you, because the darkness is past, and the true light now shines. ⁹ He that says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness.

¹⁰ Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in the heavens their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in the heavens.

²⁸ even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many.

⁵⁶ For the Son of man is not come to lose men’s souls, but to save them. And they went to another village.

¹⁰ For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

¹⁷ For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.

⁴⁵ Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father; there is one that accuses you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.

¹⁵ Ye judge after the flesh, but I judge no one. ¹⁶ And yet if I judge, my judgment is true, for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.

²⁶ I have many things to say and to judge regarding you, but he that sent me is true; and those things which I have heard of him, I speak in the world.

⁴⁸ He that rejects me and does not receive my words has one that judges him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

¹⁵ This is a faithful saying and worthy of acceptation by all, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am first. ¹⁶ But for this cause I was received unto mercy that in me first, Jesus Christ might show forth all clemency, for an example to those who should hereafter believe in him for eternal life.

¹⁵ And have as saving health the patience of our Lord, even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him has written unto you

¹⁴ ¶ And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

¹⁸ I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. ¹⁹ And it shall come to pass that whoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

⁷ And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee, for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me that I should not reign over them.

¹⁹ But ye have this day rejected your God, who saves you out of all your afflictions and your troubles, and ye have said unto him, No, but set a king over us. Now, therefore, present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes and by your thousands.

⁴² Jesus said unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

³¹ And he began to teach them that it was convenient that the Son of man must suffer many things and be rejected of the elders and of the princes of the priests and of the scribes, and be killed and after three days rise again.

¹⁰ And have ye not read this scripture: The stone which the builders rejected is placed as the head of the corner;

¹⁶ He that believes and is baptized shall be saved, but he that believes not shall be condemned.

³⁰ But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.

²² saying, The Son of man must suffer many things and be rejected of the elders and of the princes of the priests and scribes and be slain and be raised the third day.

²⁶ For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed when he shall come in his own glory and in his Father’s and of the holy angels.

¹⁶ He that hears you hears me, and he that despises you despises me, and he that despises me despises him that sent me.

²⁵ But first he must suffer many things and be rejected of this generation.

¹⁷ But he beheld them and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?

¹⁷ For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. ¹⁸ He that believes on him is not condemned, but he that does not believe is condemned already because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. ¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that the light is come into the world, and men loved darkness more than the light because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ For every one that does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

²⁴ Martha said unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection in the last day.

²³ And it shall come to pass that every soul which will not hear that prophet shall be destroyed from among the people.

¹⁶ in the day when God shall judge that which men have covered up, according to my gospel by Jesus, the Christ.

¹⁵ For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in those that are saved and in those that perish; ¹⁶ to the one we are the savour of death unto death and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?

³ But if our gospel is hid, it is hid to those that are lost,

⁸ with flaming fire, to take vengeance on those that do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ,

³ how shall we escape, if we belittle such great saving health? Which, having begun to be published by the Lord, has been confirmed unto us by those that heard him,

²⁷ And as it is appointed unto men to die once, and after this the judgment; ²⁸ so also the Christ is offered once to take away the sins of many; and unto those that wait for him without sin he shall appear the second time unto saving health.

²⁹ Of how much greater punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who has trodden underfoot the Son of God and has counted the blood of the covenant, with which he was sanctified, an unholy thing and has done despite unto the Spirit of grace? ³⁰ For we know who he is that has said, Vengeance belongs to me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. ³¹ It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

²⁵ See that you do not refuse him that speaks. For if those who refused him that spoke on earth did not escape, much less shall we escape, if we turn away from him that speaks from the heavens,

¹⁸ I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.

¹¹ Verily, verily, I say unto thee that we speak what we know and testify that which we have seen, and ye do not receive our witness.

³² And what he has seen and heard, that he testifies; and no one receives his testimony.

³⁰ I can of my own self do nothing; as I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just because I seek not my own will, but the will of the Father who has sent me.

³⁸ For I came down from the heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me. ³⁹ And this is the Father’s will who has sent me, that of all whom he has given me I should lose nothing but should raise it up again in the last day. ⁴⁰ And this is the will of him that sent me, That every one who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I will raise him up in the last day.

⁴² Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would surely love me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither did I come of myself, but he sent me.

¹⁰ Believest thou not that I am in the Father and the Father in me? The words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself; but the Father that dwells in me, he does the works.

³¹ But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go from here.

¹⁵ From now on I do not call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his lord does; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

⁸ For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

¹ ¶ The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to show unto his slaves things which are convenient to do quickly, and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his slave John,

⁶³ The Spirit is he that gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken unto you, they are Spirit and they are life.

⁶⁸ Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.

³ And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

³¹ but these are written that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing ye might have life in his name.

¹⁶ But for this cause I was received unto mercy that in me first, Jesus Christ might show forth all clemency, for an example to those who should hereafter believe in him for eternal life.

²⁵ And this is the promise that he has promised us, even eternal life.

²³ ¶ And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he has commanded us. ²⁴ And he that keeps his commandments dwells in him, and he in him. And in this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit which he has given us.

¹¹ And this is the witness, that God has given eternal life to us, and this life is in his Son. ¹² He that has the Son has life; and he that does not have the Son of God does not have life. ¹³ These things I have written unto you that believe in the name of the Son of God, that ye may know that ye have eternal life and that ye may believe in the name of the Son of God.
