¹ ¶ Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them unto the end. ² And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him, ³ Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands and that he had come from God and was going to God, ⁴ arose from the supper and laid aside his garments and took a towel and girded himself. ⁵ After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel with which he was girded. ⁶ Then he came to Simon Peter, and Peter said unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? ⁷ Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou dost not understand now, but thou shalt understand afterwards. ⁸ Peter said unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou shalt have no part with me. ⁹ Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. ¹⁰ Jesus said to him, He that is washed needs only to wash his feet because he is completely clean, and ye are clean, but not all. ¹¹ For he knew who should betray him; therefore, said he, Ye are not all clean. ¹² So after he had washed their feet and had taken his garments and had sat down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? ¹³ Ye call me Master and Lord; and ye say well, for so I am. ¹⁴ If I then, the Lord and the Master, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. ¹⁵ For I have given you an example that ye should do as I have done to you. ¹⁶ Verily, verily, I say unto you, The slave is not greater than his lord; neither is the apostle greater than he that sent him. ¹⁷ If ye know these things, ye shall be blessed if ye do them. ¹⁸ ¶ I speak not of you all; I know whom I have chosen; but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eats bread with me has lifted up his heel against me, ¹⁹ now I tell you before it is done, so that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I AM. ²⁰ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receives whomsoever I send receives me, and he that receives me receives him that sent me. ²¹ When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit and testified and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. ²² Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spoke. ²³ And one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was seated at the table beside Jesus. ²⁴ Simon Peter therefore beckoned to this one that he should ask him who it was of whom he spoke. ²⁵ He then, reclining on Jesus’ breast, said unto him, Lord, who is it? ²⁶ Jesus answered, He it is to whom I shall give a sop when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. ²⁷ And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then Jesus said unto him, That which thou shalt do, do it more quickly. ²⁸ Now no one at the table understood for what purpose he spoke this unto him. ²⁹ For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we need for the feast, or that he should give something to the poor. ³⁰ He then having received the sop went immediately out, and it was now night. ³¹ ¶ Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man clarified, and God is clarified in him. ³² If God is clarified in him, God shall also clarify him in himself and shall straightway clarify him. ³³ Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me; and as I said unto the Jews, Where I go, ye cannot come, so now I say to you. ³⁴ A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. ³⁵ By this shall everyone know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. ³⁶ ¶ Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, where goest thou? Jesus answered him, Where I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards. ³⁷ Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my soul for thy sake. ³⁸ Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy soul for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow until thou hast denied me three times.

³ The LORD has appeared of old unto me, saying, I have loved thee with an eternal love: therefore, I have put up with thee with mercy.

² Ye know that after two days is the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified. ³ Then the princes of the priests and the scribes and the elders of the people assembled together in the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, ⁴ and took counsel that they might take Jesus by guile and kill him. ⁵ But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.

⁴⁵ Then he came unto his disciples and said unto them, Sleep on now and take your rest; behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

²⁰ teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and, behold, I am with you always even unto the end of the age. Amen.

¹ ¶ Two days after was the passover and the days of unleavened bread; and the princes of the priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, that they might kill him. ² But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people.

⁵¹ ¶ And it came to pass when the time was come that he should be received up, he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem

³² And he said unto them, Go ye and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out demons, and I do cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I shall be perfected. ³³ Nevertheless I must walk today and tomorrow and the day following, for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.

¹ ¶ Now the feast of unleavened bread drew near, which is called the Passover. ² And the princes of the priests and scribes sought how they might kill him, but they feared the people.

⁵³ When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me; but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.

⁴ And the passover, the feast of the Jews, was near.

⁶ Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come, but your time is always ready.

³⁰ Then they sought to take him, but no one laid hands on him because his hour was not yet come.

²⁰ Jesus spoke these words in the treasury as he taught in the temple, and no one laid hands on him, for his hour was not yet come.

⁹ Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble because he sees the light of this world. ¹⁰ But he who walks in the night stumbles because there is no light in him.

⁵⁵ And the passover of the Jews was now at hand, and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover to purify themselves;

²³ And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour comes in which the Son of man shall be clarified.

³ Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands and that he had come from God and was going to God,

³⁴ A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

²⁸ ¶ Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice because I said, I go unto the Father; for my Father is greater than I.

⁹ ¶ As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. ¹⁰ If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love, even as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.

¹³ Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his soul for his friends. ¹⁴ Ye are my friends if ye do whatsoever I command you.

⁵ But now I go unto him that sent me, and none of you asks me, Where goest thou? ⁶ But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow has filled your heart. ⁷ ¶ Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is expedient for you that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

²⁸ ¶ I came forth from the Father and am come into the world; again, I leave the world and go to the Father.

¹ ¶ Jesus spoke these words and lifted up his eyes to heaven and said, Father, the hour is come; clarify thy Son, that thy Son may also clarify thee,

⁵ And now, O Father, clarify thou me with thine own self with that clarity which I had with thee before the world was.

⁹ I pray for them; I do not pray for the world, but for those whom thou hast given me; for they are thine. ¹⁰ And all my things are thine, and thine are mine; and I have been clarified in them. ¹¹ ¶ And now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, those whom thou hast given me, keep them in thy name, that they may be one, as we are.

¹³ And now I come to thee; and these things I speak in the world that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. ¹⁴ I have given them thy word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

¹⁶ They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

²⁶ And I have manifested unto them thy name and will manifest it still, that the love with which thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

⁴ Jesus therefore, knowing all the things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?

³⁷ Nevertheless, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

⁸ who shall also confirm that ye shall remain unimpeachable unto the end, in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

²⁵ Husbands, love your wives even as the Christ also loved the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} and gave himself for her, ²⁶ that he might sanctify and cleanse her in the washing of water by the word,

⁶ but Christ as a son over his own house, which house we are, if we hold fast the confidence and the glorious hope firmly until the end.

¹⁴ For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end;

¹¹ But we desire that each one of you show the same diligence until the end for the fulfillment of your hope,

¹³ ¶ Therefore, having the loins of your understanding girded with temperance, wait perfectly in the grace that is presented unto you when Jesus, the Christ, is manifested unto you,

¹⁹ We love him, because he first loved us.

⁵ and from Jesus, the Christ, who is the faithful witness and the first begotten of the dead and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us and washed us from our sins with his own blood

²⁷ ¶ Blessed be the LORD God of our fathers, who has put such a thing as this in the king’s heart, to honour the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem,

¹² And I arose in the night, I and some few men with me; neither did I tell any man what my God had put in my heart to do at Jerusalem; neither was there any beast with me, except the beast that I rode upon.

³ Then Satan entered into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.

³¹ And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has desired to have you that he may sift you as wheat;

⁷⁰ Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? ⁷¹ He spoke of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon, for it was he that should betray him, being one of the twelve.

⁴ arose from the supper and laid aside his garments and took a towel and girded himself.

²⁶ Jesus answered, He it is to whom I shall give a sop when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. ²⁷ And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then Jesus said unto him, That which thou shalt do, do it more quickly.

³ But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled thy heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to defraud of the price of the land?

¹⁶ ¶ But thanks be to God, who put the same diligence into the heart of Titus for you.

³ among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind and were by nature the children of wrath, even as all the others.

¹³ ¶ Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither does he tempt anyone: ¹⁴ But each one is tempted, when they are drawn away of their own lust and enticed. ¹⁵ Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin; and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death. ¹⁶ Do not err, my beloved brethren. ¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness neither shadow of turning.

¹⁷ For God has put in their hearts to fulfil his will and to agree and give their kingdom unto the beast until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

²⁷ All things are delivered unto me of my Father, and no one has known the Son but the Father, neither has anyone known the Father except the Son and he unto whom the Son will reveal him.

¹⁸ And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

²² All things are delivered to me of my Father, and no one knows who the Son is, but the Father, and who the Father is, but the Son and he to whom the Son will reveal him.

¹⁸ No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him.

¹³ And no one has ascended up to the heaven but he that came down from the heaven, even the Son of man, who is in the heaven.

³⁵ The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand.

²² For the Father judges no man but has committed all judgment unto the Son ²³ that everyone should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that does not honour the Son does not honour the Father who has sent him. ²⁴ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that hears my word and believes him that sent me has eternal life and shall not come into judgment but has passed from death unto life. ²⁵ Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour shall come, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they that hear shall live. ²⁶ For as the Father has life in himself, so has he given to the Son to have life in himself ²⁷ and has also given him power and authority to execute judgment because he is the Son of man.

²⁹ But I know him, for I am from him, and he has sent me.

³³ Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while I shall be with you, and then I shall go unto him that sent me.

⁴² Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would surely love me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither did I come of myself, but he sent me.

² as thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

⁵ And now, O Father, clarify thou me with thine own self with that clarity which I had with thee before the world was. ⁶ ¶ I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou didst give me out of the world; thine they were, and thou didst give them me; and they have kept thy word. ⁷ Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. ⁸ For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

¹¹ ¶ And now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, those whom thou hast given me, keep them in thy name, that they may be one, as we are. ¹² While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name; those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition, that the scripture might be fulfilled. ¹³ And now I come to thee; and these things I speak in the world that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.

³⁶ Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

²⁷ For he has put all things under his feet. But when he says all things are put under him, it is clear that he is excepted, who did put all things under him.

²¹ far above all principality and power and might and dominion and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in that which is to come, ²² And has put all things under his feet and gave him to be the head over all things to the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones},

⁹ Therefore, God also has highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name, ¹⁰ that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things in earth and things under the earth, ¹¹ and that every tongue should confess that the Lord Jesus Christ is Lord in the glory of God the Father.

² has in these last times spoken unto us by his Son, whom he has appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the ages;

⁸ Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not see yet that all things are put under him. ⁹ But we see this same Jesus, crowned with glory and honour, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

³⁷ Blessed are those slaves, whom the lord when he comes shall find watching; verily I say unto you that he shall gird himself and make them to sit down to food and will come forth and serve them.

⁷ But which of you, having a slave plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by when he is come from the field, Go and sit down at the table?

²⁷ For who is greater, he that sits at the table or he that serves? Is it not he that sits at the table? But I am among you as he that serves.

⁹ For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor that ye through his poverty might be enriched.

⁶ who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God, ⁷ but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, made in the likeness of men, ⁸ and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}.

⁴ Let a little water, I pray you, be brought and wash your feet and rest yourselves under a tree;

² and he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your slave’s house and tarry all night and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early and go on your ways. And they said, No, but we will abide in the street all night.

⁴ And Aaron and his sons thou shalt bring unto the door of the tabernacle of the testimony and shalt wash them with water.

⁸ And he that is to be purified shall wash his clothes and shave off all his hair and wash himself with water, and he shall be clean; and after that he shall come into the camp and shall dwell outside of his tent seven days.

⁴¹ And she arose and bowed herself on her face to the earth and said, Behold, let thy handmaid be a slave to wash the feet of the slaves of my lord.

¹¹ But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not a prophet of the LORD here, that we may enquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel’s slaves answered and said, Here is Elisha, the son of Shaphat, who poured water on the hands of Elijah.

¹⁰ And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall be restored, and thou shalt be clean. ¹¹ But Naaman went away angry and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the LORD, his God, and strike his hand over the place and remove the leprosy. ¹² Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? May I not wash in them and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage. ¹³ Then his slaves came near and spoke unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, would thou not have done it? How much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash and be clean?

² Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.

¹⁶ ¶ Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes; cease to do evil;

²⁵ ¶ And I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be cleansed from all your filthiness, and from all your idols I will cleanse you.

¹ ¶ In that time there shall be an open fountain for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem against sin and against uncleanness.

³⁸ and stood at his feet behind him weeping and began to wash his feet with tears and wiped them with the hairs of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment.

⁴⁴ And he turned to the woman and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thy house, thou didst give me no water for my feet; but she has washed my feet with tears and wiped them with the hairs of her head.

⁸ Peter said unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou shalt have no part with me.

³⁴ but one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith blood and water came out.

¹⁶ And now why tarriest thou? Arise and be baptized and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

¹¹ And such were some of you, but now ye are washed, but now ye are sanctified, but now ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and in the Spirit of our God.

²⁶ that he might sanctify and cleanse her in the washing of water by the word,

¹⁰ having a good testimony of good works, if she has brought up well her children, if she has exercised hospitality, if she has washed the feet of the saints, if she has relieved the afflicted, if she has diligently followed every good work.

³ For we ourselves also were foolish in another time, rebellious, deceived, serving diverse lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. ⁴ But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, ⁵ not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

²² let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts purified from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water;

⁷ But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have communion with him in the midst of us, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son cleanses us from all sin.

⁶ ¶ This is Jesus, the Christ, who came by water and blood; not by water only, but by water and blood. And the Spirit is he that bears witness, because the Spirit is the truth.

¹⁴ And I said unto him, lord, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are those who came out of great tribulation and have washed their long robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

¹¹ I indeed baptize you in water unto repentance, but he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear; he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit and fire, ¹² whose fan is in his hand; and he will thoroughly purge his threshing floor and gather his wheat into the storehouse, but he will burn up the chaff with fire that shall never be quenched. ¹³ ¶ Then Jesus came from Galilee to Jordan unto John to be baptized of him. ¹⁴ But John resisted him much, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

⁸ When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down on his knees before Jesus, saying, Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.

²⁷ he it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

²⁴ Behold the siege engines are come unto the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans that fight against it because of the sword and of the famine and of the pestilence, and what thou hast spoken is come to pass; and, behold, thou dost see it. ²⁵ And thou hast said unto me, O Lord GOD, Buy the field for money and take witnesses; and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

⁴³ And they shall possess inheritance in this land, of which ye say, It is desolate without man or beast; it is given into the hands of the Chaldeans.

⁸ And I heard, but I did not understand; then I said, O my Lord, what is the fulfillment of these things?

¹² Blessed is he that waits and comes unto one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days.

¹ ¶ I will stand upon my watch and affirm my foot upon the fortress and will watch to see what he will say in me and what I shall answer to my question. ² And the LORD answered me and said, Write the vision and make it plain upon tables that he may run that reads it. ³ For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak and not lie; though it tarry, wait for it because it will surely come; wait for it.

¹⁶ His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of him and that they had done these things unto him.

²⁶ But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all the things that I have said unto you.

⁷ Be patient, therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently until it receives the early and latter rain. ⁸ Be ye also patient and confirm your hearts, for the coming of the Lord draws near. ⁹ Complain not one against another, brethren, that ye not be condemned: behold, the judge stands before the door. ¹⁰ Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience. ¹¹ Behold, we count blessed those who endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job and have seen the end of the Lord, that the Lord is very merciful, and full of compassion.

³⁸ And he said, My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he alone is left; if some disaster should befall him by the way in which ye go, then shall ye bring my gray hairs with sorrow down to Sheol.

⁴ When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment and by the spirit of burning.

⁴ And as for thy nativity, in the day thou wast born thy navel was not cut, neither wast thou washed in water to supple thee; thou wast not salted at all, nor swaddled at all. ⁵ No eye pitied thee, to do any of these unto thee, to have mercy upon thee; but thou wast cast out in the open field with little value given to thy life, in the day that thou wast born. ⁶ ¶ I passed by thee and saw thee polluted in thine own blood, and I said unto thee, In thy blood thou shalt live; yea, I said unto thee, In thy blood thou shalt live. ⁷ In ten thousands, as the grass of the field, have I placed thee, and thou wast increased and made great, and thou art come to be adorned with excellent ornaments; thy breasts were fashioned, and thy hair is grown; but thou wast naked and bare. ⁸ And I passed by thee and looked upon thee; behold, thy time was the time of love; and I spread my mantle over thee and covered thy shame; and I gave thee an oath and entered into a covenant with thee, said the Lord GOD, and thou becamest mine; ⁹ and I washed thee with water and washed away thy blood from upon thee, and I anointed thee with oil.

²² Then Peter, taking him aside, began to rebuke him, saying, Lord, be it far from thee; in no wise shall this happen unto thee.

²⁹ He answered and said, I will not, but afterward he repented and went.

³³ Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended in thee, yet I will never be offended.

³⁵ Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.

⁵ Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Unless a man is born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

⁶ Then he came to Simon Peter, and Peter said unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?

¹⁸ Let no one govern you according to their own will under pretext of humility and religion of angels, intruding into those things which they have not seen, vainly puffed up by their fleshly mind,

²³ which things have indeed a show of wisdom in will worship and humility and neglecting of the body, but they have absolutely no value against the appetites of the flesh.

⁵ not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

²² And almost all things are by the law purged with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission. ²³ ¶ So that it was necessary that the figures of the heavenly things should be purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

⁴ For the blood of bulls and of goats cannot take away sins. ⁵ Therefore when he came into the world, he said, Sacrifice and offering thou dost not desire, but a body hast thou prepared me; ⁶ in burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. ⁷ ¶ Then said I, Behold, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me) to do thy will, O God. ⁸ Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou dost not desire, neither hadst pleasure therein, which are offered by the law; ⁹ then he said, Behold, I come to do thy will, O God. He took away the first, that he may establish the second. ¹⁰ In this will, we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus, the Christ, once for all.

⁶ ¶ I will wash my hands in innocency, so I will walk near unto thine altar, O LORD:

⁷ ¶ Remove the sin in me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

¹⁴ O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness that thou may be saved. How long shalt thou entertain the thoughts of thy iniquity within thee?

²⁴ When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person; see ye to it.

²¹ ¶ Unto the figure of which the baptism that does now correspond saves us (not taking away the uncleanness of the flesh, but giving testimony of a good conscience before God) by the resurrection of Jesus, the Christ,

²⁶ And he that took the he goat to Azazel shall wash his clothes and bathe his flesh with water and afterward come into the camp.

²⁸ And he that burns them shall wash his clothes and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp.

¹⁵ And any person that eats that which died of itself or that which was torn by beasts whether it is a natural of your own country or a stranger, he shall both wash his clothes and bathe himself in water and be unclean until the evening; then he shall be clean. ¹⁶ But if he washes them not, nor bathes his flesh; then he shall bear his iniquity.

⁷ Then the priest shall wash his clothes, and he shall bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp, and the priest shall be unclean until the evening. ⁸ Likewise he that burns her shall wash his clothes in water and bathe his flesh in water and shall be unclean until the evening.

¹² They shall remove the sin from themselves with that water on the third day, and on the seventh day they shall be clean; but if they do not remove the sin from themselves the third day, then the seventh day they shall not be clean. ¹³ Whoever touches the dead body of anyone that is dead and does not remove the sin has defiled the tabernacle of the LORD; and that person shall be cut off from Israel; because the water of separation was not sprinkled upon him, he shall be unclean, and his uncleanness shall be upon him.

¹⁹ And the clean person shall sprinkle upon the unclean on the third day and on the seventh day; and when he has removed the sin from them the seventh day, he shall then wash his clothes and bathe himself in water and shall be clean in the evening. ²⁰ But the man that shall be unclean and shall not cause the sin to be removed from himself, that person shall be cut off from among the congregation because he has defiled the tabernacle of the LORD; the water of separation has not been sprinkled upon him; he is unclean. ²¹ And it shall be a perpetual statute unto them, also he that sprinkles the water of separation shall wash his clothes; and he that touches the water of separation shall be unclean until evening.

²⁰ For surely there is not a just man upon earth that in doing good does not sin.

⁷ Thou art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee.

²⁰ In those days, and in that time, said the LORD, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon those whom I shall have left.

¹² And set us free from our debts, as we set free our debtors.

³ Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

²⁰ And if I do that which I do not desire, I am not working, but sin that dwells in me. ²¹ So that, desiring to do good, I find this law: evil is natural unto me. ²² For I delight with the law of God with the inward man, ²³ but I see another law in my members which rebels against the law of my mind, bringing captive unto the law of sin which is in my members.

¹⁷ Therefore if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation: old things are passed away; behold, all things are made new.

²¹ For he has made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

¹ ¶ Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

²² that ye put off everything concerning the old way of life, that is, the old man who corrupts himself according to deceitful desires, ²³ and be renewed in the spirit of your understanding ²⁴ and that ye put on the new man, which is created in conformity to God in righteousness and in the holiness of the truth.

²⁶ that he might sanctify and cleanse her in the washing of water by the word, ²⁷ that he might present her glorious for himself, a congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.

²³ ¶ And the very God of peace sanctify you completely, that your spirit, soul, and body be preserved whole without reprehension for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁰ but in foods and drinks and different washings and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of correction.

² For we all offend in many things. If any man offends not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to govern the whole body with restraint.

⁷ But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have communion with him in the midst of us, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son cleanses us from all sin. ⁸ ¶ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and there is no truth in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

²⁴ The Son of man goes as it is written of him, but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It had been good for that man if he had not been born. ²⁵ Then Judas, who was betraying him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.

²⁵ and needed not that any man should give testimony, for he knew what was in man.

⁶⁴ But there are some of you that do not believe. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that did not believe and who should betray him. ⁶⁵ And he said, Therefore I said unto you that no one can come unto me unless it is given unto them of my Father. ⁶⁶ After this, many of his disciples went back and walked no more with him. ⁶⁷ Then Jesus said unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? ⁶⁸ Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. ⁶⁹ And we believe and know that thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

² And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him,

¹⁸ ¶ I speak not of you all; I know whom I have chosen; but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eats bread with me has lifted up his heel against me,

²¹ When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit and testified and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

²⁶ Jesus answered, He it is to whom I shall give a sop when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.

¹² While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name; those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition, that the scripture might be fulfilled.

¹⁹ And the people said unto me, Wilt thou not tell us what these things are to us, that thou doest so?

²⁴ Thus Ezekiel shall be unto you for a sign: according to all that he has done ye shall do: and when this comes, ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.

⁵¹ Jesus said unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They answered unto him, Yes, Lord.

¹³ And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? How then will ye understand all the parables?

⁷ Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou dost not understand now, but thou shalt understand afterwards.

¹² Then the LORD said unto me, Thou hast seen well, for I will hasten my word to perform it.

²¹ ¶ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in the heavens. ²² Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

⁸ But, as for you, desire not to be called Rabbi, for one is your Master, the Christ; and you are all brothers. ⁹ And call no one your father upon the earth, for one is your Father, who is in the heavens. ¹⁰ Neither be ye called masters, for one is your Master, the Christ.

⁴⁶ And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

⁴³ Simon answered and said, I suppose that he to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.

²⁸ And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right; do this, and thou shalt live.

²⁸ And having said this, she went away and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calls for thee.

⁸ For if we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord; whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s. ⁹ For to this end Christ both died and rose and revived: to thus exercise lordship over the dead as well as over the living.

⁶ but to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

³ Therefore I give you to understand, that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus anathema and that no one can call Jesus Lord but by the Holy Spirit.

¹¹ and that every tongue should confess that the Lord Jesus Christ is Lord in the glory of God the Father.

⁸ And doubtless I even count all things as loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ

¹⁹ Thou believest that God is one; thou doest well; the demons also believe and tremble.

¹⁴ knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ has declared unto me. ¹⁵ I will also make sure with diligence that after my decease ye might remember these things. ¹⁶ ¶ For we have not made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, following cunningly devised fables, but as eyewitnesses of his majesty.

²⁶ But it shall not be so among you, but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; ²⁷ and whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your slave, ²⁸ even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many.

⁴³ But it shall not be like this among you, for whosoever desires to make himself great among you shall be your servant; ⁴⁴ and whosoever of you that desires to be first shall be slave of all. ⁴⁵ For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to serve and to give his life in ransom for many.

²⁶ But ye shall not be so, but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is prince, as he that doth serve. ²⁷ For who is greater, he that sits at the table or he that serves? Is it not he that sits at the table? But I am among you as he that serves.

³⁵ I have showed you in all things how that so labouring, ye ought to support the weak and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

¹⁰ loving one another with brotherly love, with honour preferring one another;

¹⁶ Be unanimous among yourselves, not high minded, but accommodating the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.

¹ ¶ We then that are stronger ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not please ourselves. ² Let each one of us please his neighbour in that which is good, unto edification. ³ For the Christ did not please himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of those that reproached thee fell on me.

¹³ Therefore, if food makes my brother to fall, I will never eat flesh nor do anything which may cause my brother to fall.

¹⁹ ¶ Therefore, though I am free regarding everyone, yet I have made myself slave unto all, that I might gain the more. ²⁰ And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to those that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain those that are under the law; ²¹ to those that are without law, as without law (being not without law of God, but under the law of Christ), that I might gain those that are without law. ²² To the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak; I am made all things to everyone, that I might by all means save some.

¹ ¶ Now I, Paul, myself beseech you by the meekness and clemency of the Christ (who in presence am low among you, but being absent am bold toward you)

¹³ ¶ For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only do not use liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by charity serve one another.

¹ ¶ Brethren, if anyone is overtaken in a fault, ye who are spiritual restore such a one in the spirit of meekness, considering thyself lest thou also be tempted. ² Bear ye one another’s burdens and so fulfil the law of the Christ.

² fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same charity, unanimous, minding the one thing. ³ Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory, but in humility let each esteem others better than themselves, ⁴ with each one not looking to their own things, but also to the things of others. ⁵ Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus,

⁸ although he was the Son of God, yet he learned obedience by the things which he suffered; ⁹ and being made perfect, he became the author of eternal saving health unto all those that hearken unto him,

² with our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who having been offered joy, endured the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}, despising the shame and was seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

¹ ¶ Since the Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, be ye also armed with the same thought; for he that has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,

⁵ ¶ Likewise, young people, be subject to the elders in such a manner that you are all subject to one another. Be clothed with humility of will, for God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.

²⁹ Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and humble of heart, and ye shall find rest for your souls.

⁵ ¶ Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be unanimous among yourselves according to Christ Jesus,

² and walk in charity even as the Christ also has loved us and has given himself for us as an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.

²¹ Because for this were ye called: for the Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps

¹⁷ For it is better (if the will of God so desires) that ye suffer for doing good than for doing evil. ¹⁸ ¶ For the Christ also has once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in spirit,

⁶ He that says he abides in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

²⁴ The disciple is not above his master, nor the slave above his lord. ²⁵ It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the slave as his lord. If they have called the husband of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call those of his household?

⁴⁰ The disciple is not above his master, but any one that is as the master shall be perfect.

³ Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a person be born again from above, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

²⁰ Remember the word that I said unto you, The slave is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my word, they will keep yours also.

²² ¶ Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.

¹⁶ ¶ Thus did Moses; according to all that the LORD commanded him, so did he.

¹¹ Moreover by them is thy slave warned, and in keeping them there is great reward.

¹ ¶ ALEPH. Blessed are those who walk in the perfect way, who walk in the law of the LORD. ² Blessed are those that keep his testimonies and that seek him with their whole heart. ³ For those who do no iniquity walk in his ways. ⁴ ¶ Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently. ⁵ O that my ways were ordered to keep thy statutes!

²⁷ And I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in my commandments, and ye shall keep my rights, and do them.

²⁴ Therefore, whosoever hears these words of mine and does them, I will liken him unto a prudent man, who built his house upon the rock; ²⁵ and the rain descended, and the rivers came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, and it did not fall, for it was founded upon a rock.

⁵⁰ For whosoever shall do the will of my Father who is in the heavens, the same is my brother and sister and mother.

³⁸ This is the first and great commandment. ³⁹ And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. ⁴⁰ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. ⁴¹ ¶ While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,

²⁸ But he said, Rather, blessed are those that hear the word of God and keep it.

⁴⁷ And that slave who knew his lord’s will and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. ⁴⁸ But he that knew not and did commit things worthy of stripes shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required; and to whom much was committed, more will be asked of him.

¹⁴ Ye are my friends if ye do whatsoever I command you.

¹⁴ For the charity of the Christ constrains us because we judge thus: that if one died for all, then all are dead: ¹⁵ And that he died for all that those who live should not live from now on unto themselves, but unto him who died and rose again for them.

⁶ For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision avails anything nor uncircumcision, but faith which works by charity.

⁷ By faith Noah, having received revelation of things not seen as yet, with great care prepared an ark to the saving of his house, by which he condemned the world and was made heir of the righteousness which is by faith. ⁸ By faith Abraham, being called, hearkened to go out into the place which he should afterwards receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he went.

²⁵ But whosoever has looked attentively into the perfect law of liberty and has persevered in it, not being a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, the same shall be blessed in their deed.

²⁰ But, O vain man, dost thou desire to know that faith without works is dead? ²¹ Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered his son Isaac upon the altar? ²² Dost thou not see how the faith worked together with his works, and the faith was complete by the works? ²³ And that the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness, and he was called the Friend of God. ²⁴ Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not only by faith.

¹⁷ Therefore sin is still in the one that knows to do good and does not do it.

¹⁴ Blessed are those who do his commandments that their power and authority might be in the tree of life and they may enter in through the gates into the city.

⁹ Even the man of my peace, in whom I trusted, who ate of my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

³⁶ And a man’s foes shall be those of his own household.

²³ And he answered and said, He that dips his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.

²⁰ And he, answering, said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dips with me in the dish.

⁷⁰ Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?

¹⁰ Jesus said to him, He that is washed needs only to wash his feet because he is completely clean, and ye are clean, but not all. ¹¹ For he knew who should betray him; therefore, said he, Ye are not all clean.

¹⁶ Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it unto you.

¹⁹ If ye were of the world, the world would love its own; but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

¹⁷ He said unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus said unto him, Feed my sheep.

⁵ For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your slaves for Jesus’ sake.

¹³ Neither is there any created thing that is not manifested in his presence, but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him of whom we speak.

²³ And I will kill her children with death, and all the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} shall know that I AM he that searches the kidneys and hearts, and I will give unto each one of you according to your works.

²³ Give us news of that which is to come hereafter that we may know that ye are gods; or at least do good or do evil that we may have something to tell, and together we shall marvel.

¹⁰ Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my slave whom I have chosen that ye may know and believe me and understand that I am he; before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

⁵ I have already declared it many days ago; before it came to pass I showed it to thee: lest thou should say, My idol has done it, my graven image, and my molten image, has commanded these things.

¹ ¶ Behold, I send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me; and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, and the angel of the covenant, whom ye desire: behold, he comes, said the LORD of the hosts.

³ and said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?

²⁵ Behold, I have told you before.

¹³ And it shall turn out to you for a testimony.

¹⁵ ¶ John bore witness of him and cried, saying, This is he of whom I spoke, He that comes after me is preferred before me, for he was before me.

²³ And he said unto them, Ye are from below, I am from above; ye are of this world, I am not of this world. ²⁴ Therefore I said unto you that ye shall die in your sins, for if ye do not believe that I AM, ye shall die in your sins.

⁵⁸ Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I AM.

²⁹ And now I have told you before it comes to pass, that when it is come to pass, ye might believe.

⁴ But I have told you these things that when that hour shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And I did not say these things unto you at the beginning because I was with you.

¹⁷ And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I AM the first and the last, ¹⁸ and he that lives and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen, and have the keys of Hades and of death.

⁴⁰ He that receives you receives me, and he that receives me receives him that sent me. ⁴¹ He that receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward, and he that receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward. ⁴² And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

⁴⁰ And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brothers, ye have done it unto me.

³⁷ Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receives me; and whosoever shall receive me, receives not me, but him that sent me.

⁴⁸ and said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receives me, and whosoever shall receive me receives him that sent me; for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.

¹⁶ He that hears you hears me, and he that despises you despises me, and he that despises me despises him that sent me.

⁴⁴ ¶ But Jesus cried and said, He that believes in me, believes not in me, but in him that sent me, ⁴⁵ and he that sees me sees him that sent me. ⁴⁶ I am come as a light into the world that whosoever believes in me should not abide in darkness. ⁴⁷ And if anyone hears my words and believes not, I judge him not, for I came not to judge the world but to save the world. ⁴⁸ He that rejects me and does not receive my words has one that judges him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

¹⁴ And my affliction which was in my flesh ye did not despise, nor reject but ye received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.

⁶ Therefore in the manner in which ye received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him,

⁸ He therefore that despises us, does not despise man, but God, who has also given unto us his Holy Spirit.

²¹ And as they ate, he said, Verily I say unto you that one of you shall betray me.

³⁸ Then he said unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death; tarry ye here and watch with me.

⁵ And looking round about on them with anger, being grieved for the blindness of their hearts, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out and his hand was restored whole as the other.

¹⁸ And when they sat at the table and ate, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you who eats with me shall betray me.

²¹ ¶ But with all this, behold, the hand of him that betrays me is with me on the table. ²² And truly the Son of man goes as it was determined; but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!

³³ ¶ When Jesus therefore saw her weeping and the Jews also weeping who came with her, he became enraged in the Spirit and stirred himself up

³⁵ Jesus wept.

³⁸ Jesus therefore, becoming enraged again in himself, came to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.

²⁷ ¶ Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour, but for this have I come in this hour.

¹⁶ Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit by the mouth of David spoke before concerning Judas, who was guide to those that took Jesus. ¹⁷ For he was numbered with us, and had obtained a lot or inheritance of this ministry.

¹⁶ ¶ Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him when he saw the city completely given over to idolatry.

² that I have great sorrow and continual pain in my heart. ³ For I could wish that myself were anathema from Christ for my brethren, those who are my kinsmen according to the flesh,

¹² ¶ Having come to Troas for the gospel of the Christ, even though a door was opened unto me in the Lord, ¹³ I had no rest in my spirit because I did not find Titus my brother, but taking my leave of them, I went from there into Macedonia.

¹⁹ They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us; but this happened that it might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

¹ ¶ Now when Jacob saw that there was food in Egypt, Jacob said unto his sons, Why are ye looking upon one another?

²² And they were exceeding sorrowful and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?

¹⁹ And they began to be sorrowful and to say unto him one by one, shall it be I? and another said, shall it be I?

²³ And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.

³ but the poor man had nothing except one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up, and it grew up together with him and with his children; it ate of his own food and drank of his own cup and lay in his bosom and was unto him as a daughter.

³ Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.

⁵ Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.

³⁶ Then the Jews said, Behold how he loved him!

²⁵ He then, reclining on Jesus’ breast, said unto him, Lord, who is it?

²⁶ When Jesus therefore saw his mother and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he said unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!

² Then she ran and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and said unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.

⁷ Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher’s coat unto him (for he was naked) and cast himself into the sea.

²⁰ ¶ Then Peter, turning about, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrays thee?

²⁴ This is the disciple who testifies of these things and wrote these things, and we know that his testimony is true.

¹⁶ And he had in his right hand seven stars, and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword, and his countenance was as the sun when it shines in its strength.

²² And when he came out, he could not speak unto them; and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple, for he communicated with signs and remained speechless.

⁷ And they beckoned unto their partners, who were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

¹⁷ But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to be silent, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go make these things known unto James and to the brethren. And he departed and went to another place.

¹⁶ Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel and ye that fear God hearken.

⁴⁰ And when he had given him license, Paul stood on the stairs and beckoned with the hand unto the people. And when there was made a great silence, he spoke unto them in the Hebrew tongue, saying,

⁴ And when they were gone out of the city, and not yet far off, Joseph said unto his steward, Rise up, follow after those men; and when thou dost overtake them, say unto them, Why have ye rewarded evil for good? ⁵ Is this not the one in which my lord drinks and in which indeed he divines? Ye have done evil in so doing. ⁶ When he overtook them, he spoke unto them these same words. ⁷ And they said unto him, Why saith my lord these words? In no wise should thy slaves do according to this thing. ⁸ Behold, the money, which we found in our sacks’ mouths, we brought again unto thee out of the land of Canaan; how then should we steal out of thy lord’s house silver or gold? ⁹ With whoever of thy slaves it is found, both let him die and we also will be my lord’s bond slaves. ¹⁰ And he said, Now also let it be according unto your words; he with whom it is found shall be my slave, and ye shall be blameless. ¹¹ Then they made haste, and each one took his sack down to the ground, and each one opened his sack. ¹² And he searched and began at the eldest and finished at the youngest; and the cup was found in Benjamin’s sack.

⁵ And King Ahasuerus answered and said unto Esther, the queen, Who is he, and where is he, that has filled his heart with the arrogance to do so?

¹⁹ And they began to be sorrowful and to say unto him one by one, shall it be I? and another said, shall it be I? ²⁰ And he, answering, said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dips with me in the dish.

²¹ ¶ But with all this, behold, the hand of him that betrays me is with me on the table.

⁴ Then said one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, who should betray him, ⁵ Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarius and given to the poor? ⁶ This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief and had the bag and would take from what was put therein.

³⁰ He then having received the sop went immediately out, and it was now night.

²⁷ And it came to pass at noon that Elijah mocked them and said, Cry aloud, for he is a god; peradventure he is talking or he had to go to the latrine, or he is on a journey, or he sleeps and will awake.

⁶ ¶ Set thou the wicked man over him, and let Satan stand at his right hand.

¹⁶ For their feet shall run to evil and make haste to shed blood.

³ This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all; and also that the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.

²⁴ a wild ass used to the wilderness that breaths according to the desire of her soul; from her lust, who shall stop her? All those that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her. ²⁵ Withhold thy foot from being unshod and thy throat from thirst; but thou didst say, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them I will go.

¹⁵ He spoke and said to Arioch the king’s captain, What is the reason for which this decree has gone forth from the king with such haste? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel.

⁴⁵ Then it goes and takes with itself seven other spirits worse than itself, and they enter in and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it also be unto this wicked generation.

²⁵ And she came in with haste unto the king and asked, saying, I will that thou give me immediately in a platter the head of John the Baptist.

³² And there was there a herd of many swine feeding on the mountain, and they besought him that he would allow them to enter into them. And he allowed them. ³³ Then the demons went out of the man and entered into the swine, and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake and were choked.

¹³ ¶ Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither does he tempt anyone: ¹⁴ But each one is tempted, when they are drawn away of their own lust and enticed. ¹⁵ Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin; and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death.

³⁴ Moreover, ye yourselves know that these hands have ministered unto my necessities and to those that were with me. ³⁵ I have showed you in all things how that so labouring, ye ought to support the weak and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

¹⁰ Only they asked that we should remember the poor; the same which I was also diligent to do.

²⁸ Let him that stole steal no more, but rather let him labour, working with his hands that which is good, that he may have to give to him that is in need.

¹³ ¶ They are among those that rebel against the light; they have never known its ways nor abided in its paths. ¹⁴ The murderer rises with the light, kills the poor and the needy, and in the night is as a thief. ¹⁵ The eye of the adulterer waits for the twilight, saying, No eye shall see me; and disguises his face.

¹⁶ For they do not sleep, unless they have done evil; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause someone to fall.

⁷ Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood; their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are their paths.

¹⁵ their feet are swift to shed blood;

³ And he said unto me, Thou art my slave, O Israel; in thee I will glory. ⁴ But I said, I have laboured in vain; I have spent my strength for nothing, and in vain; yet surely my judgment is before the LORD and my recompense with my God. ⁵ And now, saith the LORD, he that formed me from the womb to be his slave, so that Jacob might be converted unto him. But if Israel will not be gathered, even so, yet I shall be esteemed in the eyes of the LORD, and my God shall be my strength. ⁶ And he said, It is a light thing that thou should be my slave to wake up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the desolations of Israel; I have also given thee for a light to the Gentiles that thou may be my saving health unto the end of the earth.

¹⁰ But the angel said unto them, Fear not; for, behold, I bring you a gospel of great joy, which shall be to all the people. ¹¹ For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. ¹² And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. ¹³ And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, ¹⁴ Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will in man.

⁵⁰ But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how I am anguished until it is accomplished!

³⁹ (But this he spoke concerning the Spirit, which those that believe on him should receive, for the Holy Spirit was not yet given because Jesus was not yet glorified.)

⁴ When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

²⁸ Father, clarify thy name. Then there came a voice from the heaven, saying, I have clarified it and will clarify it again.

¹³ And whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

¹⁴ He shall clarify me, for he shall take of that which is mine and shall cause you to know it.

¹ ¶ Jesus spoke these words and lifted up his eyes to heaven and said, Father, the hour is come; clarify thy Son, that thy Son may also clarify thee, ² as thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. ³ And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. ⁴ I have clarified thee on the earth; I have finished the work which thou didst give me to do. ⁵ And now, O Father, clarify thou me with thine own self with that clarity which I had with thee before the world was. ⁶ ¶ I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou didst give me out of the world; thine they were, and thou didst give them me; and they have kept thy word.

¹³ The God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his Son Jesus, whom ye delivered up and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he had judged to let him go.

⁶ that ye may with one accord and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁷ ¶ Therefore bear one another, as the Christ also bore us, to the glory of God. ⁸ Now I say that Christ Jesus, was a minister of the circumcision, by the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers; ⁹ but that the Gentiles glorify God by mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess thee among the Gentiles and sing unto thy name.

¹⁸ Therefore we all, beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord with uncovered face, are transformed from glory to glory into the same likeness, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

⁴ In whom the god of this age has blinded the understanding of those who do not believe, that the light of the gospel of the glory of the Christ, who is the image of God, should not shine in them. ⁵ For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your slaves for Jesus’ sake. ⁶ For the God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts to bring forth the light of the knowledge of the clarity of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

⁵ having marked out beforehand the way for us to be adopted as sons by Jesus Christ in himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, ⁶ to the praise of the glory of his grace, in which he has made us accepted in the beloved; ⁷ in whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of his grace, ⁸ which has over abounded in us in all wisdom and prudence;

¹² so that we should be to the praise of his glory, those of us who first trusted in the Christ.

⁷ That in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

¹⁰ To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} the manifold wisdom of God,

¹⁴ blotting out the bill of the decrees that was against us, which was contrary to us and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross {Gr. stauro – stake}, ¹⁵ and having spoiled the principalities and the powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

⁵ So also the Christ did not glorify himself to make himself high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son; today have I begotten thee. ⁶ As he said also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. ⁷ Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, was heard because of his reverent fear;

²¹ who by him do believe God, who raised him up from the dead and has given him glory: that your faith and hope might be in God.

¹¹ If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God; if anyone ministers, let them do it according to the virtue which God gives, that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus, the Christ, unto whom is glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

⁹ And they sang a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book and to open its seals, for thou wast slain and hast redeemed us unto God by thy blood, out of every kindred and tongue and people and nation ¹⁰ and hast made us unto our God kings and priests, and we shall reign on the earth. ¹¹ And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and of the animals and of the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; ¹² saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to take power and riches and wisdom and strength and honour and glory and blessing. ¹³ And I heard every creature which is in heaven and upon the earth and under the earth and such as are upon the sea and all that are in it, saying, Blessing and honour and glory and power, be unto him that is seated upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. ¹⁴ And the four animals said, Amen. And the twenty-four elders fell on their faces and worshipped him that lives for ever and ever.

¹⁰ ¶ With all this the LORD chose to bruise him; subjecting him to grief. When he shall have offered his soul for atonement, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the will of the LORD shall be prospered in his hand. ¹¹ He shall see of the travail of his soul and shall be satisfied. And by his knowledge shall my righteous slave justify many, for he shall bear their iniquities. ¹² Therefore I will divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil unto the strong because he has poured out his soul unto death, and he was numbered with the rebellious, having born the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

²¹ that they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us, that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. ²² And the clarity which thou gavest me I have given them, that they may be one, even as we are one: ²³ I in them, and thou in me, that they may be perfect in one and that the world may know that thou hast sent me and hast loved them as thou hast loved me. ²⁴ ¶ Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am, that they may behold my clarity, which thou hast given me, for thou hast loved me from before the foundation of the world.

² has in these last times spoken unto us by his Son, whom he has appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the ages; ³ who being the brightness of his glory and the express image of his substance and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

²² who is at the right hand of God, having ascended into heaven, unto whom the angels and the authorities and powers are subject.

²¹ To him that overcomes will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame and have sat down with my Father in his throne.

²² And I saw no temple in her; for the Lord God Almighty is her temple, and the Lamb. ²³ And the city had no need of the sun neither of the moon to shine in her, for the clarity of God has illuminated it, and the Lamb is its lamp.

¹ ¶ And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

³ And there shall no longer be any cursed thing; but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in her; and his slaves shall serve him;

¹³ I AM the Alpha and the Omega, beginning and end, the first and the last.

³³ Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while I shall be with you, and then I shall go unto him that sent me. ³⁴ Ye shall seek me and shall not find me, and where I shall be, ye shall not be able to come.

²¹ ¶ Then Jesus said again unto them, I am going away, and ye shall seek me, but ye shall die in your sins; where I go, ye shall not be able to come. ²² Then the Jews said, Will he kill himself? because he says, Where I go, ye shall not be able to come.

³⁵ Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the Light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you; for he that walks in darkness does not know where he goes. ³⁶ While ye have the Light, believe in the Light that ye may be the sons of light. Jesus spoke these things and departed and hid himself from them.

⁴ ¶ So that ye know where I go, and ye know the way. ⁵ Thomas said unto him, Lord, we know not where thou goest; how, therefore, can we know the way? ⁶ Jesus said unto him, I AM the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes unto the Father, but by me.

¹⁹ Yet a little while, and the world shall see me no more, but ye shall see me; because I live, ye shall live also.

¹⁶ ¶ A little while, and ye shall not see me; and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father. ¹⁷ Then some of his disciples said among themselves, What is this that he says unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me; and again, a little while, and ye shall see me; and, Because I go to the Father? ¹⁸ They said therefore, What is this that he says, A little while? we cannot understand what he says. ¹⁹ Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of what I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me; and again, a little while, and ye shall see me? ²⁰ Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, and the world shall rejoice; but even though ye shall be sorrowful, your sorrow shall be turned into joy. ²¹ The woman, when she is in travail, has pain, because her hour is come; but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembers the anguish no more, for joy that a man is born into the world. ²² And ye now therefore have sorrow; but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and no one shall take your joy from you.

¹⁹ ¶ My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ is formed in you,

¹ ¶ My little children, I write these things unto you, that ye sin not; and if anyone has sinned, we have an Advocate before the Father, Jesus, the righteous Christ;

⁴ ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.

²¹ Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

¹⁸ Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the sons of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. I am the LORD.

³⁴ But the stranger that dwells with you shall be as the natural of yourselves, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt. I AM your God.

³ to the saints that are in the earth and to the excellent: all my delight is towards them.

⁶³ ¶ I am a companion of all those that fear thee and of those that keep thy precepts.

¹² This is my commandment, That ye love one another as I have loved you. ¹³ Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his soul for his friends.

¹⁷ This I command you, that ye love one another.

²¹ that they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us, that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

²⁶ And if one member suffers, all the members suffer together; or if one member is honoured, all the members rejoice together. ²⁷ ¶ Now ye are the body of Christ and members in particular.

⁴ ¶ Charity suffers long and is benign; charity envies not; charity does nothing without due reason, is not puffed up, ⁵ is not injurious, seeks not her own, is not easily provoked, thinks no evil, ⁶ rejoices not in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; ⁷ bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

¹³ ¶ For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only do not use liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by charity serve one another. ¹⁴ For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is this: Charity, joy, peace, tolerance, gentleness, goodness, faith,

² Bear ye one another’s burdens and so fulfil the law of the Christ.

¹⁰ Therefore as long as we have the opportunity, let us do good unto everyone, especially unto those who are of the household of faith.

¹ ¶ Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of charity, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, ² fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same charity, unanimous, minding the one thing. ³ Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory, but in humility let each esteem others better than themselves, ⁴ with each one not looking to their own things, but also to the things of others. ⁵ Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus,

⁴ since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the charity which ye have toward all the saints,

¹² ¶ Clothed, therefore, (as the elect of God, holy and beloved) with bowels of mercies, with kindness, with humility, with meekness, with tolerance, ¹³ forbearing one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a quarrel against another: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

¹² And the Lord make you to multiply and make charity to abound among you and toward all men, even as it is with us toward you,

⁹ ¶ But as touching love among the brethren, ye need not that I write unto you, for ye yourselves have learned of God that ye are to show charity to one another. ¹⁰ And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren who are in all Macedonia, but we beseech you, brethren, that ye continue to grow

³ We must thank God always for you, brethren, as is due because your faith grows exceedingly, and the charity of each and every one of you toward each other abounds,

¹ ¶ Let brotherly love continue.

⁸ ¶ If ye truly fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well;

²² Having purified your souls in the obedience of the truth, by the Spirit, in unfeigned brotherly love, love one another with a pure heart fervently,

⁸ ¶ And finally, be ye all of one consent, of one affection, loving each other fraternally, merciful, courteous, ⁹ not rendering evil for evil or curse for curse, but to the contrary, blessing, knowing that ye are called, that ye should possess a blessing by inheritance.

⁷ and in fear of God, brotherly love; and in brotherly love, charity.

⁷ ¶ Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning. ⁸ Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which is the truth in him and in you, because the darkness is past, and the true light now shines. ⁹ He that says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. ¹⁰ He that loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no occasion of stumbling in him.

¹¹ ¶ For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, That we should love one another.

¹⁴ ¶ We know that we are passed from death unto life, in that we love the brethren. He that does not love his brother abides in death. ¹⁵ Whosoever hates his brother is a murderer and ye know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. ¹⁶ In this we have known the charity of God because he laid down his life for us; we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. ¹⁷ But whosoever has this world’s goods and sees his brother have need and shuts up his bowels of compassion from him, how does the charity of God abide in him? ¹⁸ My little children, let us not love in word neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

²³ ¶ And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he has commanded us.

⁷ ¶ Beloved, let us love one another, for charity is of God. Anyone that loves is born of God and knows God. ⁸ He that does not love does not know God, for God is charity. ⁹ In this was the charity of God demonstrated in us, in that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. ¹⁰ In this does the charity consist, not because we had loved God, but because he loved us and has sent his Son to be the reconciliation for our sins. ¹¹ Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

²¹ And we have this commandment from him, That he who loves God loves his brother also.

⁵ ¶ And now I beseech thee, lady, (not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning) that we love one another.

⁷ And there was a strife between the pastors of Abram’s cattle and the pastors of Lot’s cattle; and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelt then in the land. ⁸ Then Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee and between my pastors and thine, for we are brethren.

³² ¶ And of the multitude of those that had believed was one heart and one soul; no one said that anything he possessed was his own, but they had all things common. ³³ And with great power the apostles gave witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. ³⁴ Neither was there any among them that lacked, for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them and brought the prices of the things that were sold ³⁵ and laid them down at the apostles’ feet; and distribution was made unto each one according to their need.

¹² ¶ And by the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were wrought in the people. (And they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch. ¹³ And of the others, no one dared join themself to them, but the people magnified them. ¹⁴ And those that believed in the Lord increased in number, multitudes both of men and women.)

⁵ But whosoever keeps his word, in him verily is the charity of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

¹⁰ He that loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no occasion of stumbling in him.

¹⁰ In this the sons of God are manifest, and the sons of the devil: whosoever does not righteousness and that loves not his brother is not of God. ¹¹ ¶ For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, That we should love one another. ¹² Not as Cain, who was of the wicked one and killed his brother. And why did he kill him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous. ¹³ Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hates you. ¹⁴ ¶ We know that we are passed from death unto life, in that we love the brethren. He that does not love his brother abides in death.

²⁰ If anyone says, I love God and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he that does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? ²¹ And we have this commandment from him, That he who loves God loves his brother also.

³³ Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me; and as I said unto the Jews, Where I go, ye cannot come, so now I say to you.

² In my Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

⁴ ¶ So that ye know where I go, and ye know the way. ⁵ Thomas said unto him, Lord, we know not where thou goest; how, therefore, can we know the way?

¹⁷ Then some of his disciples said among themselves, What is this that he says unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me; and again, a little while, and ye shall see me; and, Because I go to the Father?

¹⁸ Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou didst gird thyself and walk where thou wouldest, but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee and carry thee where thou wouldest not. ¹⁹ This he spoke, signifying by what death he should clarify God. And when he had spoken this, he said unto him, Follow me.

²¹ Peter seeing him said to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do? ²² Jesus said unto him, If I will that he tarry until I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

¹⁴ knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ has declared unto me.

³¹ ¶ Then Jesus said unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night; for it is written, I will smite the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. ³² But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee. ³³ Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended in thee, yet I will never be offended. ³⁴ Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night before the cock crows, thou shalt deny me three times. ³⁵ Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.

²⁷ Then Jesus said unto them, All ye shall be scandalized in me this night; for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered. ²⁸ But after I have risen, I will go before you into Galilee. ²⁹ Then Peter said unto him, Although all be scandalized, yet I will not. ³⁰ And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crows twice, thou shalt deny me three times. ³¹ But he spoke the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said the others.

³¹ And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has desired to have you that he may sift you as wheat; ³² but I have prayed for thee that thy faith fail not; and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren. ³³ And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison and to death. ³⁴ And he said, I tell thee, Peter, thou shalt deny three times that thou knowest me before the cock shall crow this day.

¹⁵ ¶ So when they had dined, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He said unto him, Yes, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He said unto him, Feed my lambs.

²⁴ But none of these things move me, neither do I count my life dear unto myself, only that I might finish my course with joy and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

¹³ Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

¹⁸ ¶ Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

²⁶ ¶ He that trusts in his own heart is a fool, but whosoever walks in wisdom, he shall be saved.

²³ ¶ A man’s pride shall bring him low, but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.

³⁴ Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night before the cock crows, thou shalt deny me three times.

⁶⁹ ¶ Now Peter sat outside in the patio; and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee. ⁷⁰ But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest. ⁷¹ And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him and said unto those that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth. ⁷² And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man. ⁷³ And after a while those that stood by came unto him and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them, for thy speech makes thee manifest. ⁷⁴ Then he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately a cock crew. ⁷⁵ And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, who said unto him, Before the cock crows, thou shalt deny me three times. And he went out and wept bitterly.

³⁰ And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crows twice, thou shalt deny me three times.

⁶⁶ ¶ And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there came one of the maids of the high priest; ⁶⁷ and when she saw Peter warming himself, looking upon him, said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth. ⁶⁸ But he denied, saying, I know him not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew. ⁶⁹ And the maid seeing him again began to say to those that stood by, This is one of them. ⁷⁰ But he denied it again. And a little after, those that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them, for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agrees unto it. ⁷¹ And he began to curse and to swear, saying, I do not know this man of whom ye speak. ⁷² And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the words that Jesus had said unto him, Before the cock crows twice, thou shalt deny me three times. And thinking on this, he wept.

³⁴ And he said, I tell thee, Peter, thou shalt deny three times that thou knowest me before the cock shall crow this day.

⁵⁶ But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire and earnestly looked upon him and said, This man was also with him. ⁵⁷ And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not. ⁵⁸ And after a little while another saw him and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not. ⁵⁹ And about the space of one hour after, another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him, for he is a Galilaean. ⁶⁰ And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately while he yet spoke, the cock crew. ⁶¹ Then the Lord turned and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord how he had said unto him, Before the cock crows, thou shalt deny me three times. ⁶² And Peter went out and wept bitterly.

¹⁶ But Peter stood at the door without. Then that other disciple, who was known unto the high priest, went out and spoke unto her that kept the door and brought in Peter. ¹⁷ Then the damsel that kept the door said unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man’s disciples? He said, I am not.

²⁵ And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it and said, I am not. ²⁶ One of the slaves of the high priest, kinsman of the one whose ear Peter had cut off, said, Did I not see thee in the garden with him? ²⁷ Peter then denied again, and immediately the cock crew.

¹² Therefore let him that thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.
