²⁷ And he said, Blessed be the LORD, God of my master Abraham, who has not lifted his mercy and his truth from my master, the LORD leading me in the way to the house of my master’s brethren.

¹⁷ And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying, ¹⁸ The LORD is longsuffering and of great mercy, letting go of iniquity and transgression and absolving, but by no means absolving the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons unto the third and fourth generations. ¹⁹ Pardon now the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of thy mercy and as thou hast forgiven this people from Egypt even until now.

⁸ O remember not against us former iniquities; let thy tender mercies speedily meet us on the way, for we are very poor. ⁹ Help us, O God, our saving health, for the honor of thy name and deliver us and purge away our sins, for thy name’s sake.

¹⁴ O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have sought after my soul and have not set thee before them.

¹⁶ O look into me and have mercy upon me; give thy strength unto thy slave and keep the son of thine handmaid.

to the Overcomer: to sing upon Mahalath, Maschil of Heman the Ezrahite. ¶ O LORD God of my saving health, I cry day and night before Thee;

¹⁵ I am afflicted and destitute; from my youth up I have feared thee and been in awe of thee. ¹⁶ Thy fierce wrath goes over me; thy terrors have cut me off. ¹⁷ They came round about me daily like water; they compassed me about together. ¹⁸ Thou hast put lover and friend far from me, and placed my acquaintances into darkness.

¹⁴ Thy throne is composed of righteousness and judgment; mercy and truth go before thy face.

¹⁴ Because he has set his will upon me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high because he has known my name.

¹⁵ to show that the LORD is upright; he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

³ LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?

³ He has remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the saving health of our God.

⁴ who redeems thy life from destruction; who crowns thee with mercy and compassion;

¹⁷ But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon those that fear him, and his righteousness unto the children’s children,

⁶ Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses. ⁷ And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.

³ They compassed me about with words of hatred and fought against me without a cause.

¹⁴ Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD, and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.

¹⁶ Because he did not remember to show mercy but persecuted the man who is poor in spirit and destitute and broken in heart, that he might slay him.

²¹ ¶ And thou, O GOD the Lord, do unto me for thy name’s sake; because thy mercy is good, deliver me.

²⁶ ¶ I have declared my ways, and thou didst hear me; teach me thy statutes. ²⁷ Make me to understand the way of thy precepts; so I shall meditate of thy wondrous works.

³³ ¶ HE. Teach me, O LORD, the way of thy statutes, and I shall keep it unto the end.

³⁵ ¶ Make me to go in the path of thy commandments, for therein do I delight.

⁶⁶ which teaches me discernment and knowledge, for I have believed thy commandments.

⁶⁸ ¶ Thou art good and doest good; teach me thy statutes.

⁷⁵ ¶ I know, O LORD, that thy judgments are right and that thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me. ⁷⁶ ¶ Let, I pray thee, thy mercy be for my comfort, according to thy spoken word unto thy slave. ⁷⁷ Let thy mercy come unto me, that I may live, for thy law is my delight. ⁷⁸ ¶ Let the proud be ashamed, for they dealt perversely with me without a cause, but I will meditate in thy precepts.

⁹⁷ ¶ MEM. O how I love thy law! it is my meditation all the day.

¹²⁴ ¶ Deal with thy slave according to thy mercy, and teach me thy statutes.

¹³² ¶ Look thou upon me and be merciful unto me, as thou didst use to do unto those that love thy name.

¹⁵³ ¶ RESH. Consider my affliction and deliver me; for I have not forgotten thy law.

¹ A Song of degrees. ¶ I will lift up mine eyes unto the mountains, from whence cometh my help. ² My help comes from the LORD, who made the heavens and earth.

⁷ The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil; he shall preserve thy soul.

⁶ ¶ Pray for the peace of Jerusalem; those that love thee shall be brought into rest.

² Behold, as the eyes of slaves look unto the hand of their masters and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress, so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until he shall have mercy upon us.

⁷ Our soul has escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers; the snare has broken, and we are escaped. ⁸ Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made the heaven and the earth.

⁸ And he shall ransom Israel from all his sins.

¹⁸ His enemies I will clothe with shame, but upon himself shall his crown blossom.

⁷ Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me; thou shalt stretch forth thy hand against the wrath of my enemies, and thy right hand shall save me.

¹ To the Overcomer, A Psalm of David. ¶ Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man; preserve me from the man of violence.

⁴ Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the man of violence, who have purposed to overthrow my steps.

¹¹ The man with an evil tongue shall not be established in the earth; evil shall hunt the man of violence to overthrow him.

⁸ Therefore mine eyes look unto thee, O GOD the Lord; in thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute.

⁶ Attend unto my cry, for I am brought very low; deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I.

³ For the enemy has persecuted my soul; he has smitten my life down to the ground; he has made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead. ⁴ Therefore my spirit has become overwhelmed within me; my heart within me has become desolate.

⁸ Cause me to hear thy mercy in the morning, for in thee do I trust; cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul unto thee.

¹⁰ Teach me to do thy will, for thou art my God. Let thy good Spirit lead me into the land of uprightness. ¹¹ By thy name, O LORD, thou shalt give me life; by thy righteousness thou shalt bring my soul out of trouble.

⁶ The LORD lifts up the humble; he casts the wicked down to the earth.

⁴ For the LORD takes pleasure in his people; he will beautify the humble with saving health.

⁷ ¶ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and chastening.

²⁰ ¶ Wisdom cries without; she utters her voice in the streets: ²¹ She cries in the chief place of concourse, in the entrance to the gates of the city she utters her words, saying, ²² How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and the fools hate knowledge? ²³ Return at my reproof; behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

³³ But whosoever hearkens unto me shall dwell safely and shall rest from the fear of evil.

¹ ¶ My son, if thou wilt receive my words and hide my commandments within thee ² so that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom and apply thine heart to intelligence, ³ yea, if thou criest for understanding and givest thy voice unto intelligence, ⁴ if thou seekest her as silver and searchest for her as for hid treasures, ⁵ then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.

⁵ then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom; out of his mouth comes knowledge and intelligence.

⁵ Trust in the LORD with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. ⁶ In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

³² For the perverse is an abomination to the LORD; but his secret is with the righteous.

⁷ Hear me now therefore, O ye sons, and do not depart from the words of my mouth. ⁸ Remove thy way far from her, and do not come near the door of her house, ⁹ lest thou give thine honour unto others and thy years unto the cruel, ¹⁰ lest strangers be filled with thy wealth, and thy labours be in the house of a stranger, ¹¹ and thou mourn at the last when thy flesh and thy body are consumed ¹² and say, How have I hated chastening and my heart despised reproof ¹³ and have not obeyed the voice of those who chastened me, nor inclined my ear to those that instructed me! ¹⁴ I have been in almost every kind of evil, in the midst of society and of the congregation.

²⁰ I shall lead in the way of righteousness in the midst of the paths of judgment,

³⁴ Blessed is the man that hears me, keeping vigil at my gates, waiting at the threshold of my doors.

⁴ whosoever is simple, let him turn in here; as for those that lack understanding, {Heb. lacking of heart}, she saith unto him, ⁵ Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled. ⁶ Forsake that which is foolish and live and go in the way of understanding.

³ ¶ The perfection of the upright shall guide them in the way, but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.

³³ ¶ The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom, and before honour is humility.

⁶ ¶ By mercy and truth iniquity is purged, and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

²³ ¶ The fear of the LORD is unto life, and he that has it shall live satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

⁷ ¶ The just man who walks in his integrity, blessed shall be his sons after him.

¹⁷ ¶ Let not thy heart envy sinners, but persevere in the fear of the LORD all day long.

²⁵ ¶ The fear of man brings a snare, but whosoever puts his trust in the LORD shall be lifted up.

¹³ ¶ The conclusion of the entire sermon is heard: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole happiness of man.

³ And many peoples shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths; for out of Zion shall go forth the law and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

⁴ But with righteousness shall he judge the poor and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the spirit of his lips he shall slay the wicked.

¹ ¶ O LORD, thou art my God; I will exalt thee; I will praise thy name for thou hast done wonders, the counsels of old, the truth unchanging.

⁹ ¶ And it shall be said in that day, Behold, this is our God, whom we have waited for, and he has saved us: this is the LORD, whom we have waited for, we will be glad and rejoice in his saving health.

³ Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusts in thee.

⁷ The way of the just is uprightness: thou, most upright, dost weigh the path of the just.

¹⁶ Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believes shall not make haste.

¹⁸ ¶ And therefore will the LORD wait for you, that he may have mercy on you, and therefore will he be exalted having mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all those that wait for him.

⁸ And a highway shall be there and a way, and it shall be called The Way of Holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; and for those in it there shall be someone to go with them, in such a manner that the foolish shall not err therein.

¹⁴ Thus saith the king, Do not let Hezekiah deceive you, for he shall not be able to deliver you. ¹⁵ Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us, this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria. ¹⁶ Do not hearken unto Hezekiah, for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make peace with me and come out to me and eat each one of his vine and each one of his fig tree and drink each one the waters of his own cistern ¹⁷ until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and wine, a land of bread and vineyards. ¹⁸ Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, The LORD will deliver us. Have any of the gods of the Gentiles delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? ¹⁹ Where is the god of Hamath and Arphad? Where is the god of Sepharvaim? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand? ²⁰ What god is there among all the gods of these lands that have delivered their land out of my hand that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?

¹⁰ Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Do not let thy God, in whom thou dost trust, deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.

²⁰ Now therefore, O LORD our God, save us from his hand that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD, even thou only.

³⁵ For I will defend this city to save it for my own sake and for my slave David’s sake.

¹⁷ Behold, for peace I had great bitterness; but it has pleased thee to deliver my life from the pit of corruption, for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.

³¹ but those that wait for the LORD shall have new strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

¹⁶ Thou shalt fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them; but thou shalt rejoice in the LORD, thou shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel.

¹ ¶ Behold my slave, whom I uphold; my elect, in whom my soul delights; I have put my Spirit upon him; he shall give judgment unto the Gentiles. ² He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the streets. ³ He shall not break a bruised reed, nor shall he quench the smoking flax; he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.

¹⁶ And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will cause them to walk in paths that they have not known; I will make darkness light before them and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them and not forsake them.

² When thou dost pass through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee; when thou dost walk through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

²⁵ I, even I, am he that uproots thy rebellions for mine own sake and will not remember thy sins.

⁹ ¶ For my name’s sake I will defer my anger, and for my praise I will wait patiently for thee that I not cut thee off.

¹⁰ They shall never hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun smite them: for he that has mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water he shall feed them.

²³ And kings shall be thy nursing fathers and their princesses thy nursing mothers: they shall bow down to thee with their face toward the earth and lick up the dust of thy feet; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD: for those that wait for me shall not be ashamed.

¹⁰ ¶ Who is among you that fears the LORD? Hearken unto the voice of his slave. He who walked in darkness and had no light; let him trust in the name of the LORD and stay upon his God.

¹³ And all thy sons shall be taught of the LORD; and the peace of thy sons shall be multiplied.

⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

¹ ¶ Thus saith the LORD, Keep ye judgment, and do righteousness: for my saving health is near to come, and my righteousness to be manifested. ² Blessed is the man that does this, and the son of man that lays hold on it; that keeps from polluting the sabbath, and keeps his hand from doing any evil. ³ ¶ Neither let the son of the stranger that has joined himself to the LORD speak, saying, The LORD shall utterly separate me from his people: nor let the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree. ⁴ For thus has the LORD said unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant; ⁵ even unto them will I give in my house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall never be cut off. ⁶ Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and that love the name of the LORD, to be his slaves, every one that keeps from polluting the sabbath, and takes hold of my covenant;

¹ ¶ The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me because the LORD has anointed me; he has sent me to preach good tidings unto those who are cast down; to bind up the wounds of the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those that are bound;

¹⁵ ¶ Look down from heaven, and behold from the habitation of thy holiness and of thy glory; where is thy zeal and thy strength, the feeling of thy bowels and of thy mercies toward me? are they restrained?

⁹ Be not wroth very sore, O LORD, neither remember iniquity for ever; behold, see, we beseech thee, we are all thy people.

²³ They shall not labour in vain, nor give birth with fear; for their births are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring shall be with them.

¹⁰ Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be glad with her, all ye that love her: be filled with joy with her, all ye that mourn for her: ¹¹ That ye may suck, and be satisfied with the breasts of her consolations; that ye may milk out, and be delighted with the splendour of her glory. ¹² For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream; then shall ye suck, ye shall be borne upon her sides, and be dandled upon her knees. ¹³ As a man child whom his mother comforts, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem. ¹⁴ And ye shall see, your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like grass; and the hand of the LORD shall be known toward his slaves and his indignation toward his enemies.

²⁵ We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covers us; for we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day, and have not hearkened unto the voice of the LORD our God.

²⁶ For among my people were found wicked men: they lay in wait as he that sets snares; they set a trap of perdition to catch men.

¹⁶ Thus hath the LORD said, Stand ye in the ways and see and ask for the old paths, where the good way is and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

¹⁸ Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down in the dust because the crown of your glory has come down off your heads.

¹¹ But the LORD is with me as a powerful giant; therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper; they shall have everlasting confusion which shall never be forgotten.

⁹ They shall come with weeping, but with mercies I will cause them to return; I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, in which they shall not stumble; for I shall be a father to Israel, and Ephraim shall be my firstborn.

¹² Therefore they shall come and do praises in the height of Zion and shall run unto the goodness of the LORD, unto the bread, and unto the wine, and unto the oil, and unto the gain of the flock and of the herd and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all. ¹³ Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together; for I will turn their mourning into joy and will comfort them and make them rejoice from their sorrow. ¹⁴ And I will satiate the soul of the priest with fatness, and my people shall be filled with my goodness, said the LORD.

²⁰ Peradventure is Ephraim a precious son unto me? Peradventure is he unto me a delightful child? With all this since I spoke of him, I have remembered him constantly. Therefore my bowels are troubled for him; in tenderness I will surely have mercy upon him, saith the LORD.

³¹ Behold, the days come, said the LORD, in which I will make a new covenant with the house of Jacob and with the house of Judah: ³² not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt because they invalidated my covenant although I was a husband unto them, said the LORD; ³³ But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, said the LORD, I will give my law in their souls and write it in their hearts and will be their God, and they shall be my people. ³⁴ And they shall no longer teach every man his neighbour and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD, for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, said the LORD, for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

³⁹ and I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me for ever for the good of them and of their sons after them:

¹¹ the voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voice of those that shall say, Praise the LORD of the hosts; for the LORD is good; for his mercy endures for ever: and of those that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the LORD. For I will cause the captivity of the land to turn as at the first, said the LORD.

²⁵ Teth The LORD is good unto those that wait in him, to the soul that seeks him.

⁴¹ Nun Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.

¹ ¶ Remember, O LORD, what is come upon us; look, and behold our reproach.

¹⁹ And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh and will give them a heart of flesh: ²⁰ that they may walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and fulfil them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.

⁹ With all this, I intervened for my name’s sake that it should not be polluted before the Gentiles, among whom they were, in whose sight I made myself known unto them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt.

²⁴ Son of man, those that inhabit these wastes in the land of Israel speak, saying, Abraham was one, and he possessed the land; but we are many; the land is given us for a possession. ²⁵ Therefore say unto them, Thus hath the Lord GOD said; Ye eat with the blood and lift up your eyes toward your idols and shed blood, and shall ye possess this land? ²⁶ Ye stand upon your sword, ye work abomination, and ye defile each one his neighbour’s wife, and shall ye possess the land?

²⁵ And I will establish with them a covenant of peace and will cause the evil beasts to cease out of the land: and they shall dwell safely in the wilderness and sleep in the woods. ²⁶ And I will give unto them and to the places round about my hill blessing, and I will cause the rain to come down in its season; they shall be rains of blessing. ²⁷ And the tree of the field shall yield her fruit, and the earth shall yield her fruit, and they shall be safe in their land and shall know that I am the LORD when I have broken the bands of their yoke and delivered them out of the hand of those that served themselves of them. ²⁸ And they shall no longer be a prey to the Gentiles, neither shall the beast of the land devour them; but they shall dwell safely, and no one shall make them afraid.

²² Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus hath the Lord GOD said: I do not do this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for my holy name’s sake, which ye have profaned among the Gentiles, where ye went.

²⁷ And I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in my commandments, and ye shall keep my rights, and do them.

²² My God has sent his angel, who shut the lions’ mouths, that they do me no evil because before him righteousness was found in me; and even before thee, O king, I have done no corruption.

¹⁷ Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of thy slave and his supplications and cause thy face to shine upon thy sanctuary that is made desolate, by the Lord.

⁹ Who is wise that he might understand this? and prudent that he might know this? for the ways of the LORD are right, and the just shall walk in them; but the rebellious shall fall therein.

²⁶ And ye shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God that has dealt wondrously with you; and my people shall never again be ashamed. ²⁷ And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel and that I am the LORD your God, and there is none other; and my people shall never be ashamed.

² And many Gentiles shall come and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth from Zion and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

⁷ ¶ Therefore I will wait for the LORD; I will wait for the God of my saving health; my God will hear me.

¹⁷ Because the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be on the vines; the labour of the olive shall lie, and the cultivated fields shall yield no food; the sheep shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: ¹⁸ yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will joy in the God of my saving health. ¹⁹ The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and upon my high places he will cause me to walk victorious in my instruments of music.

³ Seek ye the LORD, all ye humble of the earth, who have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek humility: it may be ye shall be kept in the day of the LORD’s anger.

³ ¶ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;

⁶ For the God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts to bring forth the light of the knowledge of the clarity of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

⁸ ¶ We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are unsure of our lives, but not in despair; ⁹ persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;

²³ meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
