⁵³ They have cut off my life in the dungeon, and have cast stones upon me.

¹⁶ When Jeremiah was come into the dungeon-house, and into the cells, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;

²⁰ And now hear, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be presented before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.'

⁶ Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the pit of Malchiah the king's son, that was in the court of the guard; and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the pit there was no water, but mire; and Jeremiah sank in the mire.

⁹ 'My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the pit; and he is like to die in the place where he is because of the famine; for there is no more bread in the city.'

¹⁷ (6:18) And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel.

⁶⁰ and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock; and he rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb, and departed.

⁶⁶ So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, the guard being with them.
