⁵⁴ Waters flowed over my head; I said: 'I am cut off.'

¹¹ My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart. ¹² They change the night into day; the light is short because of darkness. ¹³ If I look for the nether-world as my house; if I have spread my couch in the darkness; ¹⁴ If I have said to corruption: 'Thou art my father', to the worm: 'Thou art my mother, and my sister'; ¹⁵ Where then is my hope? And as for my hope, who shall see it? ¹⁶ They shall go down to the bars of the nether-world, when we are at rest together in the dust.

⁴ (18:5) The cords of Death compassed me, and the floods of Belial assailed me.

¹⁸ And I said: 'My strength is perished, and mine expectation from the LORD.'

¹¹ Then He said unto me: 'Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel; behold, they say: Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are clean cut off.

³ (2:4) For Thou didst cast me into the depth, in the heart of the seas, and the flood was round about me; all Thy waves and Thy billows passed over me. ⁴ (2:5) And I said: 'I am cast out from before Thine eyes'; yet I will look again toward Thy holy temple. ⁵ (2:6) The waters compassed me about, even to the soul; the deep was round about me; the weeds were wrapped about my head.
