² And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this man perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ a king.

¹⁷ And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him: 'Is it thou, thou troubler of Israel?'

¹⁰ and set two men, base fellows, before him, and let them bear witness against him, saying: Thou didst curse God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he die.' ¹¹ And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who dwelt in his city, did as Jezebel had sent unto them, according as it was written in the letters which she had sent unto them. ¹² They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth at the head of the people. ¹³ And the two men, the base fellows, came in and sat before him; and the base fellows bore witness against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying: 'Naboth did curse God and the king.' ¹³ And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he laid hold on Jeremiah the prophet, saying: 'Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.' ¹⁴ Then said Jeremiah: 'It is false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans'; but he hearkened not to him; so Irijah laid hold on Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes. ¹⁵ And the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe; for they had made that the prison.

⁴ Then the princes said unto the king: 'Let this man, we pray thee, be put to death; forasmuch as he weakeneth the hands of the men of war that remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them; for this man seeketh not the welfare of this people, but the hurt.'

¹⁰ Then Amaziah the priest of Beth-el sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying: 'Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel; the land is not able to bear all his words.

⁸ And I cut off the three shepherds in one month; 'for My soul became impatient of them, and their soul also loathed Me.'

²⁷ But, lest we cause them to stumble, go thou to the sea, and cast a hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up, and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a shekel; that take, and give unto them for me and thee.

²¹ They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's.

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests, and elders, and the whole council sought false witness against Jesus, that they might put him to death, ⁶⁰ and they found it not; yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none.

¹⁷ And Jesus answering said unto them, Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's. And they marveled greatly at him.

⁵⁵ Now the chief priests and the whole council sought witness against Jesus to put him to death, and found it not. ⁵⁶ For many bare false witness against him, and their witness agreed not together.

⁶¹ But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and saith unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed? ⁶² And Jesus said, I am; and ye shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.

³ And the chief priests accused him of many things. ⁴ And Pilate again asked him, saying, Answerest thou nothing? behold how many things they accuse thee of. ⁵ But Jesus no more answered anything, insomuch that Pilate marveled.

²⁰ And they watched him, and sent forth spies, who feigned themselves to be righteous, that they might take hold of his speech, so as to deliver him up to the rule and to the authority of the governor. ²¹ And they asked him, saying, Teacher, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, and acceptest not the person of any, but of a truth teachest the way of God: ²² Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? ²³ But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why make ye trial of me? ²⁴ Show me a denarius. Whose image and superscription hath it? And they said, Caesar's. ²⁵ And he said unto them, Then render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's.

⁶⁹ But from henceforth shall the Son of man be seated at the right hand of the power of God. ⁷⁰ And they all said, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.

⁵ But they were the more urgent, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, and beginning from Galilee even unto this place.

¹⁴ and said unto them, Ye brought unto me this man, as one that perverteth the people; and behold, I having examined him before you, found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:

³⁰ They answered and said unto him, If this man were not an evildoer, we should not have delivered him up unto thee.

³³ Pilate therefore entered again into the Praetorium, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews? ³⁴ Jesus answered, Sayest thou this of thyself, or did others tell it thee concerning me? ³⁵ Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests delivered thee unto me; what hast thou done? ³⁶ Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world; if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now is my kingdom not from hence. ³⁷ Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end have I been born, and to this end am I come into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

¹² Upon this Pilate sought to release him; but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou release this man, thou art not Caesar's friend; every one that maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.

²⁰ and when they had brought them unto the magistrates, they said, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city, ²¹ and set forth customs which it is not lawful for us to receive, or to observe, being Romans.

⁶ And when they found them not, they dragged Jason and certain brethren before the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also, ⁷ whom Jason hath received; and these all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.

⁵ For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of insurrections among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:

¹³ Neither can they prove against me the things whereof they now accuse me.

¹⁶ having a good conscience, that, wherein they may speak against you as evildoers, they may be put to shame who revile your good manner of life in Christ. ¹⁷ For it is better, if the will of God should so will, that ye suffer for well-doing than for evil-doing. ¹⁸ Because Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring you to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit,
