¹³ He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets; but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth a matter.

¹⁶ Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people; neither shalt thou stand idly by the blood of thy neighbour: I am the LORD.

¹⁴ And the men said unto her: 'Our life for yours, if ye tell not this our business; and it shall be, when the LORD giveth us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.'

²⁰ But if thou utter this our business, then we will be guiltless of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.'

¹⁷ Moreover in those days the nobles of Judah sent many letters unto Tobiah, and the letters of Tobiah came unto them. ¹⁸ For there were many in Judah sworn unto him, because he was the son-in-law of Shecaniah the son of Arah; and his son Jehohanan had taken the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah to wife. ¹⁹ Also they spoke of his good deeds before me, and reported my words to him. And Tobiah sent letters to put me in fear.

⁹ Debate thy cause with thy neighbour, but reveal not the secret of another;

²⁰ Where no wood is, the fire goeth out; and where there is no whisperer, contention ceaseth. ²¹ As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife. ²² The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the body.

²⁷ Then came all the princes unto Jeremiah, and asked him; and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him; for the matter was not reported.

¹³ And withal they learn also to be idle, going about from house to house, and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
