³⁰ I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

⁸ According as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow mischief, reap the same.

²⁷ Lo this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thy good.

¹⁷ I will tell thee, hear thou me; and that which I have seen I will declare -

²⁵ I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

⁴² The upright see it, and are glad; and all iniquity stoppeth her mouth.

⁶ Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise; ⁷ Which having no chief, overseer, or ruler, ⁸ Provideth her bread in the summer, and gatherest her food in the harvest. ⁹ How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? ¹⁰ 'Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep' - ¹¹ So shall thy poverty come as a runner, and thy want as an armed man. ¹² A base person, a man of iniquity, is he that walketh with a froward mouth; ¹³ That winketh with his eyes, that scrapeth with his feet, that pointeth with his fingers; ¹⁴ Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth evil continually; he soweth discord. ¹⁵ Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; on a sudden shall he be broken, and that without remedy. ¹⁶ There are six things which the LORD hateth, yea, seven which are an abomination unto Him: ¹⁷ Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood; ¹⁸ A heart that deviseth wicked thoughts, feet that are swift in running to evil; ¹⁹ A false witness that breatheth out lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

³² He that committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding; he doeth it that would destroy his own soul.

¹³ In the lips of him that hath discernment wisdom is found; but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.

¹¹ He that tilleth his ground shall have plenty of bread; but he that followeth after vain things is void of understanding.

¹ But I returned and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun; and behold the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power, but they had no comforter. ² Wherefore I praised the dead that are already dead more than the living that are yet alive; ³ but better than they both is he that hath not yet been, who hath not seen the evil work that is done under the sun. ⁴ Again, I considered all labour and all excelling in work, that it is a man's rivalry with his neighbour. This also is vanity and a striving after wind. ⁵ The fool foldeth his hands together, and eateth his own flesh. ⁶ Better is a handful of quietness, than both the hands full of labour and striving after wind. ⁷ Then I returned and saw vanity under the sun. ⁸ There is one that is alone, and he hath not a second; yea, he hath neither son nor brother; yet is there no end of all his labour, neither is his eye satisfied with riches: 'for whom then do I labour, and bereave my soul of pleasure?' This also is vanity, yea, it is a grievous business.

¹⁵ All things have I seen in the days of my vanity; there is a righteous man that perisheth in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man that prolongeth his life in his evil-doing.

⁹ All this have I seen, even applied my heart thereto, whatever the work that is done under the sun; what time one man had power over another to his hurt. ¹⁰ And so I saw the wicked buried, and they entered into their rest; but they that had done right went away from the holy place, and were forgotten in the city; this also is vanity. ¹¹ Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil;
