³¹ And, lo, it was all grown over with thistles, the face thereof was covered with nettles, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.

¹⁷ And unto Adam He said: 'Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying: Thou shalt not eat of it; cursed is the ground for thy sake; in toil shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life. ¹⁸ Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field. ¹⁹ In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken; for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.'

⁴⁰ Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and noisome weeds instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.

²³ The fear of the LORD tendeth to life; and he that hath it shall abide satisfied, he shall not be visited with evil.

⁴ The sluggard will not plow when winter setteth in; therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.

¹³ The sluggard saith: 'There is a lion without; I shall be slain in the streets.'

²¹ For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty; and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

¹⁸ By slothfulness the rafters sink in; and through idleness of the hands the house leaketh.

⁵ And now come, I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; I will break down the fence thereof, and it shall be trodden down;

³ For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem: Break up for you a fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.

⁷ And others fell upon the thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them;

²² And he that was sown among the thorns, this is he that heareth the word, and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.

⁸ but if it beareth thorns and thistles, it is rejected and nigh unto a curse, whose end is to be burned.
