¹ My son, be attentive to my wisdom, and incline your ear to my understanding: ² That you may preserve discretion, and that your lips may keep knowledge. ³ For the lips of an immoral woman drop as a honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil: ⁴ But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword. ⁵ Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on sheol. ⁶ Lest you should ponder the path of life, her ways are unstable, that you can not know them. ⁷ Hear me now therefore, O you children, and depart not from the words of my mouth. ⁸ Remove your way far from her, and come not near the door of her house: ⁹ Lest you give your honor unto others, and your years unto the merciless: ¹⁰ Lest strangers be filled with your wealth; and your labors go to the house of a foreigner; ¹¹ And you mourn at the last, when your flesh and your body are consumed, ¹² And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; ¹³ And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined my ear to them that instructed me! ¹⁴ I was almost in utter ruin in the midst of the congregation and assembly. ¹⁵ Drink waters out of your own cistern, and running waters out of your own well. ¹⁶ Should your fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets? ¹⁷ Let them be only for your own, and not for strangers with you. ¹⁸ Let your fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of your youth. ¹⁹ Let her be as the loving deer and graceful doe; let her breasts satisfy you at all times; and be ravished always with her love. ²⁰ And why will you, my son, be infatuated with an immoral woman, and embrace the bosom of a seductress? ²¹ For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he ponders all his paths. ²² His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be held with the cords of his sins. ²³ He shall die for lack of instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

¹ My son, if you will receive my words, and lay up my commandments with you;

¹ Hear, you children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

⁹ And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham as our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

¹⁹ Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger:

⁷ He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says unto the churches; To him that overcomes will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

¹¹ Your lips, O my spouse, drop like the honeycomb: honey and milk are under your tongue; and the fragrance of your garments is like the fragrance of Lebanon.

⁶ The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity. ⁷ For the priest's lips should preserve knowledge, and they should seek the law from his mouth: for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.

¹⁶ To deliver you from the immoral woman, even from the seductress who flatters with her words;

²⁴ To keep you from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a seductress.

⁴ And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah. ⁵ And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see where his great strength lies, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him: and we will all give you eleven hundred pieces of silver. ⁶ And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray you, where your great strength lies, and with what you might be bound to afflict you.

¹⁵ And she said unto him, How can you say, I love you, when your heart is not with me? you have mocked me these three times, and have not told me where your great strength lies. ¹⁶ And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed unto death; ¹⁷ That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There has not come a razor upon my head; for I have been a Nazarite unto God from my mother's womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man. ¹⁸ And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he has showed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand. ¹⁹ And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him. ²⁰ And she said, The Philistines be upon you, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he knew not that the LORD was departed from him. ²¹ But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of bronze; and he did grind in the prison house.

⁴ My soul is among lions: and I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

²⁴ To keep you from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a seductress. ²⁵ Lust not after her beauty in your heart; neither let her allure you with her eyelids. ²⁶ For by means of a harlot a man is reduced to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will prey upon his precious life. ²⁷ Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? ²⁸ Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? ²⁹ So is he that goes in to his neighbor's wife; whosoever touches her shall not be innocent. ³⁰ Men do not despise a thief, if he steals to satisfy his soul when he is hungry; ³¹ But if he is found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give up all the goods of his house. ³² But whosoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding: he that does it destroys his own soul. ³³ A wound and dishonor shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away. ³⁴ For jealousy causes the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance. ³⁵ He will not regard any ransom; neither will he be appeased, though you give many gifts.

²² He goes after her immediately, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks; ²³ Till an arrow strikes through his liver; as a bird hastens to the snare, and knows not that it is for his life.

¹⁸ But he knows not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of the grave.

²⁷ For a harlot is a deep ditch; and a seductress is a narrow well. ²⁸ She also lies in wait as for a prey, and increases the unfaithful among men.

²⁶ And I find more bitter than death the woman whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands are fetters: whosoever pleases God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her.

¹² For the word of God is living, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

¹⁵ Looking diligently lest any man fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; ¹⁶ Lest there be any immoral, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright.

¹⁸ For her house leads unto death, and her paths unto the dead. ¹⁹ None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.

²⁷ Her house is the way to sheol, going down to the chambers of death.

¹¹ You will show me the path of life: in your presence is fullness of joy; at your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.

⁵⁹ I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto your testimonies.

²⁶ Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established.

²¹ For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he ponders all his paths.

¹² A worthless person, a wicked man, walks with a perverse mouth. ¹³ He winks with his eyes, he signals with his feet, he motions with his fingers;

¹⁰ And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of a harlot, and subtle of heart. ¹¹ (She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house: ¹² Now is she outside, now in the streets, and lies in wait at every corner.) ¹³ So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him, ¹⁴ I have peace offerings with me; this day have I paid my vows. ¹⁵ Therefore came I forth to meet you, diligently to seek your face, and I have found you. ¹⁶ I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with colored spreads, with fine linen of Egypt. ¹⁷ I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. ¹⁸ Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us delight ourselves with love. ¹⁹ For my husband is not at home, he has gone on a long journey: ²⁰ He has taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed. ²¹ With her enticing speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she seduced him.

¹⁹ As righteousness leads to life: so he that pursues evil pursues it to his own death.

²⁰ This is the way of an adulterous woman; she eats, and wipes her mouth, and says, I have done no wickedness.

⁹ Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, ¹⁰ And with all deception of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

²¹ My son, let not them depart from your eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:

²¹ Let them not depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart.

²⁴ Hearken unto me now therefore, O you children, and attend to the words of my mouth.

³² Now therefore hearken unto me, O you children: for blessed are they that keep my ways. ³³ Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. ³⁴ Blessed is the man that hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. ³⁵ For whosoever finds me finds life, and shall obtain favor of the LORD. ³⁶ But he that sins against me wrongs his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

¹⁷ Bow down your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart unto my knowledge. ¹⁸ For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you; they shall all be fitted on your lips. ¹⁹ That your trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to you this day, even to you. ²⁰ Have not I written to you excellent things in counsels and knowledge, ²¹ That I might make you know the certainty of the words of truth; that you might answer the words of truth to them that send unto you?

²⁵ See that you refuse not him that speaks. For if they escaped not who refused him that spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape, if we turn away from him that speaks from heaven:

¹⁵ Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.

²⁷ Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? ²⁸ Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?

²⁵ Let not your heart turn aside to her ways, go not astray in her paths.

¹³ And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

¹¹ And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

²³ And Judah said, Let her keep it to her, lest we be shamed: behold, I sent this kid, and you have not found her. ²⁴ And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar your daughter-in-law has played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by harlotry. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt. ²⁵ When she was brought forth, she sent to her father-in-law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said, Discern, I pray you, whose are these, the signet, and bracelets, and staff. ²⁶ And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She has been more righteous than I; because I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.

²⁶ Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did foreign women cause to sin.

¹³ They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and elms, because its shadow is good: therefore your daughters shall commit harlotry, and your spouses shall commit adultery. ¹⁴ I will not punish your daughters when they commit harlotry, nor your spouses when they commit adultery: for the men themselves are gone apart with harlots, and they sacrifice with prostitutes: therefore the people that do not understand shall fall.

³⁵ He will not regard any ransom; neither will he be appeased, though you give many gifts.

³ Give not your strength unto women, nor your ways to that which destroys kings.

⁹ Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knows it not: yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, yet he knows not.

³⁰ But as soon as this your son came, who has devoured your living with harlots, you have killed for him the fatted calf.

²⁷ And when he has made her drink the water, then it shall come to pass, that, if she was defiled, and has done a trespass against her husband, that the water that causes the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall rot: and the woman shall be a curse among her people.

²⁹ O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!

²³ Till an arrow strikes through his liver; as a bird hastens to the snare, and knows not that it is for his life.

³¹ The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their own power; and my people love to have it so: and what will you do in the end?

²¹ What fruit had you then in those things of which you are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.

⁴ In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, ⁵ To deliver such a one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

⁴ Let marriage be held in honor by all, and the bed undefiled: but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.

⁸ But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

¹⁵ For outside are dogs, and sorcerers, and fornicators, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loves and makes a lie.

⁹ And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with you, than with them. And they pressed hard upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.

¹⁶ And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said unto him, Are you made the king’s counselor? stop; why should you be killed? Then the prophet stopped, and said, I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this, and have not hearkened unto my counsel.

¹⁰ And the LORD spoke to Manasseh, and to his people: but they would not hearken. ¹¹ Therefore the LORD brought upon them the captains of the army of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh with hooks, and bound him with bronze fetters, and carried him to Babylon.

¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and scoffed at his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

¹⁷ Seeing you hate instruction, and cast my words behind you.

²² So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before you.

⁷ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

²² How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? and the scoffers delight in their scoffing, and fools hate knowledge?

²⁵ But you have ignored all my counsel, and would have none of my reproof:

²⁹ Because they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: ³⁰ They would have none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

²³ For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

¹ Whosoever loves instruction loves knowledge: but he that hates reproof is senseless.

¹⁸ Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuses instruction: but he that regards reproof shall be honored.

⁵ A fool despises his father's instruction: but he that regards reproof is prudent.

⁴ Yet I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, Oh, do not this abominable thing that I hate.

⁴ Be you not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets have cried, saying, Thus says the LORD of hosts; Turn you now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, says the LORD. ⁵ Your fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they live forever? ⁶ But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? and they returned and said, Like as the LORD of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our deeds, so has he dealt with us.

¹¹ But they refused to hearken, and shrugged the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear. ¹² Yea, they made their hearts as a flint stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts has sent by his Spirit through the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts. ¹³ Therefore it has come to pass, that just as he cried, and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would not hear, says the LORD of hosts: ¹⁴ But I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land became desolate after them, that no man passed through nor returned: for they made the pleasant land desolate.

¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ For everyone that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.

¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before you,

⁸ He therefore that despises, despises not man, but God, who has also given unto us his Holy Spirit.

¹² And we beseech you, brethren, to know them who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; ¹³ And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.

⁷ Remember them who have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their manner of life.

¹ And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit harlotry with the daughters of Moab. ² And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods. ³ And Israel joined itself unto Baal of Peor: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel. ⁴ And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the LORD in the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel. ⁵ And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay you every one his men that were joined unto Baal of Peor. ⁶ And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of meeting.

²⁰ He that walks with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

¹¹ Harlotry and wine and new wine take away the heart. ¹² My people ask counsel of their idols of wood, and their staff advises unto them: for the spirit of harlotry has caused them to err, and they have played the harlot against their God.

⁶ Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. ⁷ Neither be you idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. ⁸ Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

¹⁰ But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise authority. Presumptuous are they, self-willed, they are not afraid to speak evil of the glorious ones. ¹¹ Whereas angels, who are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord. ¹² But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; ¹³ And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to revel in the daytime. Spots they are and blemishes, reveling themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; ¹⁴ Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: a heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: ¹⁵ Who have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; ¹⁶ But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb donkey speaking with man's voice restrained the madness of the prophet. ¹⁷ These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved forever. ¹⁸ For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that have just escaped from them who live in error.

⁷ Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after unnatural lust, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. ⁸ Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise authority, and speak evil of the glorious ones. ⁹ Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil as he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke you. ¹⁰ But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves. ¹¹ Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the rebellion of Korah. ¹² These are spots in your love feasts, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about by winds; trees whose fruit withers, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; ¹³ Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.

² Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. ³ Let the husband render unto the wife her due: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. ⁴ The wife has not power over her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband has not power over his own body, but the wife. ⁵ Deprive not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your lack of self-control.

⁶⁰ And they blessed Rebekah, and said unto her, You are our sister, be the mother of thousands of millions, and let your descendants possess the gate of those who hate them.

²⁸ Israel then shall dwell in safety alone: the fountain of Jacob shall be upon a land of grain and wine; also his heavens shall drop down dew.

⁹ And he had thirty sons, and thirty daughters, whom he sent outside for marriage, and took in thirty daughters from outside for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.

²⁶ Bless you God in the congregations, even the Lord, from the fountain of Israel.

³ Lo, children are a heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

³ Your wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of your house: your children like olive plants round about your table.

²¹ And they thirsted not when he led them through the deserts: he caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them: he split the rock also, and the waters gushed out.

⁹ Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of the life of your vanity, which he has given you under the sun, all the days of your vanity: for that is your portion in this life, and in your labor which you perform under the sun.

¹⁵ He made a pit, and dug it, and has fallen into the ditch which he made. ¹⁶ His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own crown.

¹⁹ Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that you have forsaken the LORD your God, and that my fear is not in you, says the Lord GOD of hosts.

⁹ I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators: ¹⁰ Yet not entirely with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must you needs go out of the world.

¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, impurity, licentiousness, ²⁰ Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, strife, jealousy, wrath, selfishness, divisions, heresies, ²¹ Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like: of which I tell you beforehand, as I have also told you in time past, that they who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

⁷ Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap. ⁸ For he that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that sows to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

⁵ For this you know, that no fornicator, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. ⁶ Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things comes the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

²¹ Does not their excellence which is in them go away? they die, even without wisdom.

¹⁴ The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from above himself.

¹⁵ Who have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; ¹⁶ But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb donkey speaking with man's voice restrained the madness of the prophet. ¹⁷ These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved forever. ¹⁸ For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that have just escaped from them who live in error. ¹⁹ While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. ²⁰ For if after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. ²¹ For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. ²² But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog has turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
