²⁸ When* Lamech had lived one hundred and eighty-two years, he fathered a son. ²⁹ And he called his name Noah, saying, "This one _⌊shall relieve us_⌋* from our work, and from the hard labor of our hands, from the ground which Yahweh had cursed. ³⁰ And after Lamech had fathered Noah he lived five hundred and ninety-five years, and he fathered sons and daughters. ³¹ All the days of Lamech were seven hundred and seventy-seven years, and he died. ³² When* Noah _⌊was five hundred years old_⌋,* Noah fathered Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

⁸ But Noah found favor in the eyes of Yahweh. ⁹ These are the generations* of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, without defect in his generations. Noah walked with God. ¹⁰ And Noah fathered three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

²² And Noah did according to all that God commanded him; thus he did.

¹³ On this same day, Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and the wife of Noah and the three wives of his sons with them, went into the ark,

²³ And he* blotted out every living thing upon the surface of the ground, from humankind, to animals, to creeping things, and to the birds of heaven;* they were blotted out from the earth. Only Noah and those who were with him in the ark remained.

¹ And God remembered Noah and all the wild animals, and all the domesticated animals that were with him in the ark. And God caused a wind to blow* over the earth, and the waters subsided.

¹ And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.

¹⁸ Now* the sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.)

²⁶ Then* he said,
"Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Shem, and let Canaan be a slave to them. ²⁷ May God make space for Japheth, and let him dwell in the tents of Shem, and let Canaan be a slave for him."

²¹ And to Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, the older brother of Japheth, children were also born. ²² The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram.

¹⁰ These are the generations* of Shem. ¹⁴ And if even the three of these men were in the midst of it—Noah, Daniel, and Job—they, through their righteousness, would save only _⌊themselves_⌋!"* _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.

²⁷ they were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage, until the day Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.

⁷ By faith Noah, having been warned about things not yet seen, out of reverence constructed an ark for the deliverance of his family, by which he pronounced sentence on the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

²⁰ who were formerly disobedient, when the patience of God waited in the days of Noah, while* an ark was being constructed, in which a few—that is, eight souls—were rescued through water.

⁵ and did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a proclaimer of righteousness, _⌊and seven others_⌋* when he* brought a flood on the world of the ungodly,
