¹ Do not envy evil men, nor desire to be with them.

¹⁰ And Lot lifted up his eyes and saw all the circuit of Jordan, that it was well-watered before Jehovah destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even like the garden of Jehovah, like the land of Egypt as you come to Zoar. ¹¹ Then Lot chose all the circuit of Jordan for himself. And Lot pulled up toward the east. And they were separated, each one from his brother. ¹² And Abram lived in the land of Canaan, and Lot lived in the cities of the circuit, and tented as far as Sodom. ¹³ And the men of Sodom were evil and sinners before Jehovah, exceedingly so.

¹ And the two angels came into Sodom at evening. And Lot was sitting at the gate of Sodom. And Lot saw, and he rose up to meet them and bowed his face to the earth. ² And he said, Behold, now, my lords, please turn into your servant's house and lodge, and wash your feet; and rise early and go to your way. And they said, No, for we will lodge in the street. ³ And he much urged them, and they turned into him and came into his house. And he made a feast for them. And he baked unleavened cakes, and they ate. ⁴ Before they had laid down, even the men of the city, the men of Sodom, circled the house; from the young to the aged, all the people from its limits. ⁵ And they called to Lot and said to him, Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us, that we may know them. ⁶ And Lot went out to them, to the door, and he closed the door behind him. ⁷ And he said, My brothers, please do not act evilly. ⁸ Behold, now, I have two daughters who have not known a man; please let me bring them out to you and do to them as you see fit; only do not do a thing to these men, because on account of this they came into the shade of my roof. ⁹ And they said, Stand back! And they said, This one came into visit, and must he always judge? Now we will do evil to you rather than to them. And they pressed on the man, upon Lot violently, and drew near to break the door. ¹⁰ But the men put out their hands and pulled Lot to them, into the house, and shut the door. ¹¹ And they struck the men at the door of the house with blindness, from the small to the great; and they struggled to find the door.

⁹ Do not take away my soul with sinners, nor my life with bloody men,

¹ A Psalm of David. Do not inflame yourself with evildoers; and do not be envious against workers of perversity;

⁷ Rest in Jehovah and wait patiently for Him; inflame not yourself with him who prospers in his way, with the man practicing evil wiles.

³ For I was jealous of the proud; I looked upon the peace of the wicked.

¹¹ If they say, Walk with us, let us lie in wait for blood, let us secretly lurk for the innocent without cause, ¹² let us swallow them up alive as Sheol; and whole, as those who go down into the Pit, ¹³ we shall find all precious goods; we shall fill our houses with plunder; ¹⁴ cast in your lot among us; one purse shall be to all of us. ¹⁵ My son, do not walk in the way with them! Hold back your foot from their path;

³¹ Do not envy the cruel man, and choose not among all his ways.

²⁰ He who walks with the wise shall be wise, but one associating with fools shall be broken.

¹⁷ Do not let your heart envy sinners, but only be in the fear of Jehovah all the day.

¹⁹ Do not burn in anger because of evildoers, and do not envy the wicked;

¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh are clearly revealed, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lustfulness, ²⁰ idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, fightings, jealousies, angers, rivalries, divisions, heresies, ²¹ envyings, murders, drunkennesses, wild parties, and things like these; of which I tell you beforehand, as I also said before, that the ones practicing such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

⁵ Or do you think that vainly the Scripture says, The spirit which has dwelt in us yearns to envy? No OT passage ⁶ But He gives greater grace. Because of this it says, "God sets Himself against proud ones, but He gives grace to humble ones." Prov. 3:34
