But mercy and truth shall be to those who think of good. ²³ In all labor there is gain, but the talk of the lips tends only to poverty. ²⁴ The crown of the wise is their riches of wisdom; the foolishness of fools is folly. ²⁵ A true witness delivers souls, but a deceitful witness speaks lies. ²⁶ In the fear of Jehovah is strong hope, and His sons shall have a place of refuge. ²⁷ The fear of Jehovah is a fountain of life to turn aside from the snares of death. ²⁸ In the multitude of people is the king's honor, but in the lack of people is the ruin of the prince. ²⁹ He who is slow to wrath is of great understanding, but he who is hasty of spirit exalts folly. ³⁰ A sound heart is the life of the flesh, but envy the rottenness of the bones. ³¹ He who presses the poor curses his Maker, but he who honors Him has mercy upon the poor. ³² The wicked is driven away in his wickedness, but the righteous has hope in his death. ³³ Wisdom rests in the heart of him who has understanding, but among fools it is made known. ³⁴ Righteousness lifts up a nation, but sin is a shame to any people. ³⁵ The king's favor is toward a wise servant, but his wrath is against him who causes shame.

¹¹ And all the people in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. May Jehovah make the woman who has come into your house like Rachel and like Leah, for these two built the house of Israel. And may you be blessed in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem.

³¹ And as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, he also took Jezebel, the daughter of Eth-baal king of the Sidonians, for a wife. And he went and served Baal, and worshiped him.

²⁴ He who dies of Ahab in the city, the dogs shall eat. And he who dies in the field, the birds of the air shall eat. ²⁵ But there was none like Ahab, who sold himself to work wickedness in the sight of Jehovah, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.

¹ And Athaliah was the mother of Ahaziah. And when she saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed of the kingdom.

¹³ A foolish woman is noisy; she is simple and knows nothing. ¹⁴ For she sits at the door of her house, in a seat in the high places of the city, ¹⁵ to call those who pass by, who are going straight on their ways;

¹³ A foolish son is ruin to his father, and the quarreling of a wife is a never-ending dripping.

⁹ It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop than with a quarrelsome woman and to share a house.

¹⁹ It is better to dwell in the wilderness than with a quarrelsome and angry woman.

³ Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; ⁴ and by knowledge the rooms shall be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

¹⁰ Who can find a woman of virtue? For her value is far above rubies. ¹¹ The heart of her husband trusts safely in her, so that he shall have no need of plunder. ¹² She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. ¹³ She seeks wool and flax, and works willingly with her hands. ¹⁴ She is like the merchants' ships; she brings her food from afar. ¹⁵ She also rises while it is still night, and gives food to her household, and a share to her young women. ¹⁶ She considers a field, and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard. ¹⁷ She binds her loins with strength, and makes her arms strong. ¹⁸ She sees that her merchandise is good; her lamp does not go out by night. ¹⁹ She lays her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. ²⁰ She stretches out her hand to the poor; yea, she reaches forth her hands to the needy. ²¹ She is not afraid of the snow for her household; for all her household are clothed with scarlet. ²² She makes herself coverings; her clothing is silk and purple. ²³ Her husband is known in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land. ²⁴ She makes fine linen and sells it, and delivers girdles to the merchants. ²⁵ Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. ²⁶ She opens her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. ²⁷ She looks well to the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. ²⁸ Her sons rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. ²⁹ Many daughters have done well, but you excel them all. ³⁰ Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears Jehovah, she shall be praised. ³¹ Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

⁶ And Solomon said, You have shown to Your servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before You in truth and in righteousness and in uprightness of heart with You. And You have kept this great kindness for him, that You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is today.

¹ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job. And that man was perfect and upright, and one who feared God and turned aside from evil.

⁴ I am a laughing-stock to his friends; who calls on God, and He answers him; the just, the upright one is a mockery;

²⁸ And to man He said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom! And to depart from evil is understanding!

²¹ Let purity and uprightness keep me; for I wait on You.

¹ Praise Jehovah! Blessed is the man who fears Jehovah, who delights greatly in His Commandments.

³ Have mercy on us, O Jehovah, have mercy on us; for we are exceedingly filled with scorn. ⁴ Our soul is exceedingly filled with the contempt of those who are at ease, with the scorn of the proud.

¹⁵ whose ways are crooked, and are devious in their paths.

¹² One despising his friend lacks heart, but a man of understanding remains silent.

¹⁷ The way of the upright is to turn away from evil; he who keeps his way guards his way.

¹ Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than he who is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.

⁶ Better is the poor who walks in his uprightness than he who is perverse in his ways, though he is rich.

¹³ Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter. Fear God, and keep His commandments. For this is the whole duty of man.

⁵ My covenant with him was life and peace, and I gave them to him for fear; and he feared Me, and he is awed before My name. ⁶ The Law of Truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips. He walked with Me in peace and uprightness, and turned away many from iniquity.

¹⁶ The one hearing you hears Me, and he who despises you despises Me; he who rejects you also rejects Him who sent Me.

¹⁴ And being money-lovers, all the Pharisees also heard all these things. And they derided Him.

³¹ Then, indeed, the churches had rest throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria, and having been built up. And having gone on in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were increased.

²² And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man and one who fears God, and one of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by a holy angel to send for you to come to his house and to hear words from you.

³⁵ but in every nation he who fears Him and works righteousness is accepted with Him.

⁴ Or do you despise the riches of His kindness, and the forbearance and long-suffering, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? ⁵ But according to your hardness and your impenitent heart, do you treasure up wrath for yourself in a day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,

² For men will be self-lovers, money-lovers, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, ³ without natural affection, unyielding, false accusers, without self-control, savage, despisers of good,

³ Talk no more so very proudly. Remove arrogance out of your mouth, for Jehovah is a God of knowledge, and by Him actions are weighed.

²¹ You shall be hidden from the whip of the tongue; neither shall you be afraid of robbery when it comes.

³ Jehovah shall cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that speaks proud things,

¹⁸ Let the lying lips be put to silence; the lips which speak proudly against the righteous, with pride and scorn.

¹ To the Chief Musician. A contemplation. A Psalm of David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said to him, David has come to the house of Ahimelech. Why do you boast yourself in evil, O mighty man? The mercy of God endures forever. ² Your tongue devises evil, like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

⁴ My soul is among lions; I lie among those on fire, the sons of men whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

⁶ The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood; but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

⁶ A fool's lips enter into argument, and his mouth calls for strokes.

²⁴ Proud, haughty scorner is his name, he who deals in proud wrath.

⁸ He who sows iniquity shall reap vanity; and the rod of his anger shall fail.

²⁵ He who is of a proud heart stirs up fighting; but he who puts his trust in Jehovah shall be made fat.

²⁰ and of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth speaking very great things, whose appearance was greater than his fellows.

⁹ Because if you confess the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved. ¹⁰ For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth one confesses unto salvation.

⁵ Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. Behold how little a fire kindles how large a forest! ⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. So the tongue is set among our members, spotting all the body and inflaming the course of nature, and being inflamed by hell.

¹⁸ For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they lure through the lusts of the flesh, by unbridled lust, the ones who were escaping from those who live in error;

¹⁰ Because you have kept the Word of My patience, I also will keep you from the hour of temptation which will come upon all the habitable world, to try those who dwell upon the earth.

¹¹ And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb, and because of the word of their testimony. And they did not love their soul until death.

⁵ And after these things I looked, and behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony was opened in Heaven. ⁶ And the seven angels came out of the temple, having the seven plagues, clothed in pure and white linen, and were tied at the breasts with golden bands.

²³ Much food is in the plowed ground of the poor, but when there is no justice, it is swept away.

⁶ And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and lack of bread in all your places, and you have not returned to Me, says Jehovah.

⁹ For it is written in the Law of Moses, "You shall not muzzle an ox threshing grain." Does God take care for oxen? ¹⁰ Or does He say it altogether for our sakes? It was written for us, so that he who plows should plow in hope, and so that he who threshes in hope should be partaker of his hope. ¹¹ If we have sown to you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?

¹⁶ You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

¹ You shall not raise a false report. Do not put your hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.

¹³ And there came in two men, sons of Belial, and sat before him. And the men of Belial witnessed against him, against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth blasphemed God and the king. And they carried him out of the city and stoned him with stones so that he died.

¹² And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramoth in Gilead and prosper, for Jehovah shall deliver it into the king's hands. ¹³ And the messenger that had gone to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets are good to the king with one mouth. Please let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak good. ¹⁴ And Micaiah said, As Jehovah lives, what Jehovah says to me, that I will speak.

¹⁹ a false witness who speaks lies, and he who causes fighting among brothers.

¹⁷ He who breathes truth shows forth righteousness, but a false witness deceit.

⁵ The righteous hates lying, but the wicked one is odious and acts shamefully.

²⁵ A true witness delivers souls, but a deceitful witness speaks lies.

⁵ A false witness shall not be unpunished, and a breather of lies shall not escape.

⁹ A false witness shall not be unpunished, and one speaking lies shall perish.

¹⁸ Open my eyes, so that I may behold wonderful things out of Your Law.

⁹⁸ Through Your Commandments You make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever with me. ⁹⁹ I have more understanding than all my teachers; for Your testimonies are my prayer. ¹⁰⁰ I understand more than the old men, because I keep Your Commandments.

⁹ They are all plain to him who understands, and right to those who find knowledge.

²⁴ Wisdom is before him who has understanding, but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.

² A fool has no delight in understanding, but only that his heart may lay itself bare.

¹² Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

²⁰ To the Law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this Word, it is because no light is in them.

⁹ The wise are ashamed, they are terrified, and are captured. Lo, they have turned away from the Word of Jehovah; and what wisdom is in them?

²² The light of the body is the eye. Therefore if your eye is sound, your whole body shall be full of light. ²³ But if your eye is evil, your whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

²⁵ At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank You, O Father, Lord of Heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the sophisticated and cunning, and revealed them to babes. ²⁶ Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. ²⁷ All things are delivered to Me by My Father. And no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son will reveal Him.

¹¹ He answered and said to them, Because it is given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of Heaven, but it is not given to them. ¹² For whoever has, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance. But whoever does not have, from him shall be taken away even that which he has.

²¹ Because, knowing God, they did not glorify Him as God, neither were thankful. But they became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. ²² Professing to be wise, they became fools ²³ and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man, and birds, and four-footed animals, and creeping things. ²⁴ Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves. ²⁵ For they changed the truth of God into a lie, and they worshiped and served the created thing more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. ²⁶ For this cause, God gave them up to dishonorable affections. For even their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature. ²⁷ And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another; males with males working out shamefulness, and receiving in themselves the recompense which was fitting for their error. ²⁸ And even as they did not think fit to have God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do the things not right,

³¹ But Israel, who followed after a law of righteousness did not arrive at a law of righteousness. ³² Why? Because it was not of faith, but as it were by the works of the Law. For they stumbled at that Stumbling-stone;

¹⁸ Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this world, let him become a fool so that he may be wise. ¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God; for it is written, "He takes the wise in their own craftiness."

² And if any man thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know.

⁵ But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and with no reproach, and it shall be given to him.

³ First, knowing this, that there will come in the last days scoffers walking according to their own lusts ⁴ and saying, Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation. ⁵ For this is hidden from them by their willing it, that the heavens were of old, and the earth out of the water, and through water, being held together by the Word of God,

⁶ Forsake the foolish and live; and go in the way of understanding.

²⁰ He who walks with the wise shall be wise, but a companion with fools shall be destroyed.

²⁷ My son, cease to hear the discipline, only to stray from the words of knowledge.

¹¹ But now I have written to you not to associate intimately, if any man called a brother and is either a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such a one not to eat.

¹¹ And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

¹⁰ The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom; all practicing them have good understanding; His praise stands forever.

⁵ O that my ways were fixed to keep Your Precepts!

³⁴ Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your Law; yea, I shall observe it with all my heart. ³⁵ Cause me to walk in the path of Your Commandments; for I delight in them.

⁷³ JOD: Your hands have made me and formed me; give me understanding so that I may learn Your Commandments.

⁸ Cause me to hear Your loving-kindness in the morning, for I do trust in You; cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to You.

⁹ Then you shall understand righteousness and judgment and honesty, every good path.

²⁰ I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment;

¹⁸ The wicked makes a deceitful wage; but one sowing righteousness has a sure reward.

²⁰ Lift up your eyes and behold those who come from the north. Where is the flock that was given to you, your beautiful flock?

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take your ease, eat drink and be merry. ²⁰ But God said to him, Fool! This night your soul shall be required of you, then whose shall be those things which you have prepared?

²² For you ought to put off the old man (according to your way of living before) who is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,

¹⁷ Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

⁹ For this cause we also, since the day we heard, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that you might be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, ¹⁰ that you might walk worthy of the Lord to all pleasing, being fruitful in every work and increasing in the knowledge of God,

¹³ But evil men and seducers will go forward to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

¹⁵ and that from a babe you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. ¹⁶ All Scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, ¹⁷ that the man of God may be perfected, thoroughly furnished to every good work.

¹³ Who is wise and knowing among you? Let him show his works by his good conduct with meekness of wisdom.

¹⁶ How much more hateful and filthy is man, who drinks iniquity like water?

⁷ What man is like Job, who drinks up scorning like water; ⁸ who goes in company with the workers of iniquity, and walks with wicked men? ⁹ For he has said, It profits a man nothing when he is accepted with God.

²² How long will you love simplicity, simple ones? And will scorners delight in their scorning? And will fools hate knowledge?

⁴ and you shall find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

³⁵ For whoever finds me finds life, and shall obtain favor from Jehovah.

²³ To work out evil devices is as laughter to a fool; so wisdom is to a man of understanding.

² The good gets grace from Jehovah, but He will condemn a man of wicked thoughts.

¹⁵ Good understanding gives favor, but the way of traitors is ever flowing.

¹⁸ or like a madman who throws firebrands, arrows, and death. ¹⁹ so is the man who deceives his neighbor and says, Am I not joking?

²⁰ Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eats, and wipes her mouth, and says, I have done no evil.

¹⁷ for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. ¹⁸ For he who serves Christ in these things is well-pleasing to God, and approved by men.

¹⁸ because they told you that at the last time there will be mockers according to their lusts, leading ungodly lives.

²¹ And they said one to another, We are truly guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul when he begged us, and we would not hear. Therefore this distress has come upon us.

¹⁰ And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to Jehovah, and wept sorely.

²⁷ And she came to the man of God to the hill, and she caught him by the feet. And Gehazi came near to push her away. And the man of God said, Let her alone, for her soul is troubled within her. And Jehovah has hidden it from me and has not told me.

² Oh that my grief were but weighed, and my ruin laid in the balances together! ³ For now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea; therefore my words have been rash. ⁴ For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, their fury is drinking my spirit; the terrors of God are set against me.

¹¹ Therefore I will not hold my mouth; I will speak in the trouble of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

¹⁸ who will not allow me to take my breath, but fills me with bitterness.

¹ My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint on my self; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

¹⁴ The secret of Jehovah is with those who fear Him; and He will show them His covenant.

¹³ A merry heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken.

¹⁴ The spirit of a man will nourish his sickness, but a wounded spirit who can bear?

¹⁴ So the Spirit lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit; but the hand of Jehovah was strong on me.

³³ And He took with Him Peter and James and John. And He began to be greatly amazed, and to be very heavy. ³⁴ And He said to them, My soul is exceedingly sorrowful to death. Stay here and watch.

²⁷ And My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? Father, save Me from this hour? But for this cause I came to this hour.

¹⁸ I will not leave you orphans. I will come to you.

²³ Jesus answered and said to him, If a man loves Me, he will keep My Word. And My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.

⁷ And the peace of God which passes all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

⁸ whom having not seen, you love; in whom not yet seeing, but believing in Him you exult with unspeakable joy, and having been glorified,

¹⁷ He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give to him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knows except he who receives it .

⁶ if you were pure and upright, surely now He would awake for you, and make the dwelling-place of your righteousness blessed.

¹⁵ He shall lean on his house, but it shall not stand; he shall hold fast to it, but it shall not endure.

³⁴ For the company of the ungodly shall be barren, and fire shall devour the tents of bribery.

¹⁴ His hope shall be rooted out of his tent, and you marched to the king of terrors. ¹⁵ What is not his shall dwell in his tent; brimstone shall be scattered on his home.

²¹ Surely these are the dwellings of the perverse, and this the place that has not known God.

²⁶ All darkness shall be hidden in his secret places; a fire not blown shall consume him; those left in his tent shall be broken. ²⁷ The heavens shall reveal his iniquity, and the earth rise up against him. ²⁸ The increase of his house shall depart, and shall flow away in the day of his wrath.

²⁸ For you say, Where is the house of the noble, and where the dwelling-places of the wicked?

¹³ This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the inheritance of cruel men which they shall receive from the Almighty. ¹⁴ If his sons are multiplied, the sword is for them; and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread. ¹⁵ Those who remain of him shall be buried in death; and his widows shall not weep. ¹⁶ Though he heaps up silver like the dust, and prepares clothing like the clay, ¹⁷ he may prepare, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver. ¹⁸ He builds his house like a moth, and like a booth that a watchman makes. ¹⁹ The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered. He opens his eyes, and he is not. ²⁰ Terrors overtake him like waters; a tempest steals him away in the night. ²¹ The east wind lifts him up, and he is gone; for it whirls him out of his place. ²² For it will hurl at him, and will not spare; he will surely flee out of its hand. ²³ He shall clap His hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.

² His seed shall be mighty on earth; the generation of the upright shall be blessed. ³ Wealth and riches shall be in his house, and his righteousness stands forever.

³ Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine by the sides of your house; your sons shall be like olive plants around your table.

³³ The curse of Jehovah is in the house of the wicked; but He blesses the home of the just.

²⁸ He who trusts in his riches shall fall; but the righteous shall blossom like a branch.

⁷ The wicked are overthrown, and are gone; but the house of the righteous shall stand.

¹² The righteous wisely considers the house of the wicked; but God overthrows the wicked for their wickedness.

²⁰ A desirable treasure and oil are in the home of the wise; but a foolish man swallows it up.

¹¹ And Jehovah shall always guide you and satisfy your soul in dry places, and make your bones fat; and you shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water whose waters fail not. ¹² And those who come of you shall build the old ruins; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; and you shall be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.

⁴ I will bring it forth, says Jehovah of Hosts; and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him who swears falsely by My name. And it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall devour it, and its timber and its stones.

²⁶ And everyone who hears these sayings of Mine and does not do them shall be compared to a foolish man who built his house on the sand. ²⁷ And the rain came down, and the floods came, and the wind blew and beat on that house. And it fell, and great was its fall.

¹⁵ The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who listens to advice is wise.

²⁵ There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end of it is the ways of death.

¹² There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their own filth.

¹³ Go in through the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many there are who go in through it. ¹⁴ Because narrow is the gate and constricted is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

²⁴ Strive to enter in at the narrow gate. For I say to you, many will seek to enter in and shall not be able.

²¹ What fruit did you have then in those things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

³ For if anyone thinks himself to be something, being nothing, he deceives himself.

⁶ Let no man deceive you with vain words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the children of disobedience.

²² But become doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

⁴ but afterward she is as bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.

² I said of laughter, It is madness; and of mirth, What does it do?

¹⁰ And whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them; I did not withhold my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labor, and this was my part of all my labor. ¹¹ Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done, and on the labor that I had labored to do; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit; and there is no profit under the sun.

⁵ It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise than for a man to hear the song of fools. ⁶ For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool; this also is vanity.

⁹ Rejoice, in your youth, young man; and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes; but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.

²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things. But now he is comforted and you are tormented.

⁹ Be afflicted, and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to heaviness.

⁷ As much as she has glorified herself and has lived in luxury, so much torment and sorrow give her. For she says in her heart, I sit as a queen, and I am not a widow; and I do not see mourning at all. ⁸ Therefore her plagues will come in one day, death and mourning and famine. And she will be consumed with fire, for the Lord God who judges her is strong.

³¹ and they shall eat the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own desires. ³² For the turning away of the simple kills them, and the ease of fools destroys them.

¹⁴ A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth, and the reward of a man's hands shall be given to him.

¹⁰ The heart knows its own bitterness, and a stranger does not share in its joy.

¹⁹ Your own evil shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you, therefore know and see that it is an evil and bitter thing that you have forsaken Jehovah your God, and that My fear is not in you, says the Lord Jehovah of Hosts.

⁵ Why has this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a never-ending backsliding? They hold fast to deceit; they refuse to return.

⁵ So says Jehovah, Cursed is the man who trusts in man, and makes flesh his arm, and whose heart departs from Jehovah.

³¹ Therefore I have poured out My fury on them. I have burned them up with the fire of My wrath. I have given their way on their heads, says the Lord Jehovah.

¹⁶ For Israel slides back like a backsliding heifer. Now Jehovah will feed them as a lamb in a large place.

⁶ and those drawing back from Jehovah, and who have not sought Jehovah, nor asked for Him.

¹⁴ but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

¹² For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity; not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God; we have had our conduct in the world, and more abundantly toward you.

⁴ But let each one prove his own work, and then he alone will have a boast in himself, and not in another.

⁸ For he sowing to his flesh will reap corruption from the flesh. But he sowing to the Spirit will reap life everlasting from the Spirit.

¹² Take heed, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

²⁰ For if they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the full knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and are again entangled, they have been overcome by these, their last things are worse than the first. ²¹ For it would have been better for them not to have fully known the way of righteousness, than fully knowing it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. ²² But the word of the true proverb has happened to them: The dog turning to his own vomit; and, The washed sow to wallowing in the mire.

²⁶ Ponder the path of your feet, and all your ways will be established.

⁷ who was with the proconsul of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man. He called for Barnabas and Saul and asked to hear the Word of God.

¹⁸ For they who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches they deceive the hearts of the simple. ¹⁹ For your obedience reached to all. Therefore I am glad on your behalf, But I would have you truly wise as to good, and simple toward evil.

¹⁴ so that we no longer may be infants, tossed to and fro and carried about by every wind of doctrine, in the dishonesty of men, in cunning craftiness, to the wiles of deceit.

¹ Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but try the spirits to see if they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

⁹ And Esau said, I have enough, my brother. Keep what you have yourself.

² And Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life like the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.

¹⁰ And Ben-hadad sent to him and said, May the gods do so to me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall be enough for handfuls for all the people who follow me. ¹¹ And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Do not let him who girds on boast himself like the one who loosens his armor.

¹⁸ And he said, If they have come out for peace, take them alive; or if they have come out for war, take them alive.

¹⁵ But the former governors that had been before me were too heavy upon the people, and had taken bread and wine from them, besides forty shekels of silver. Yes, even their servants bore rule over the people. But I did not do this, because of the fear of God.

²¹ if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless when I watched over my help in the gate; ²² then let my arm fall from the shoulder blade, and let my arm be broken from the elbow. ²³ For trouble from God is a terror to me, and I could not do anything because of His highness.

¹⁴ Depart from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.

¹²⁰ My flesh trembles in fear of You; and I am afraid of Your judgments.

⁷ Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear Jehovah and depart from evil.

²² He goes after her immediately, like an ox goes to the slaughter, or like a fool to the correction of the stocks;

⁶ By mercy and truth, iniquity is purged, and by the fear of Jehovah men turn away from evil.

¹⁴ Blessed is the man dreading God, but he who hardens his heart shall fall into mischief.

⁹ If a wise man contends with a foolish man, whether he rages or laughs, there is no rest.

¹³ The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness; and the end of his talk is wicked madness.

¹⁷ For Herod himself had sent out and laid hold on John and had bound him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife. For he had married her, ¹⁸ and John had said to Herod, It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife. ¹⁹ And Herodias held it against him, and desired to kill him, but she could not.

²⁴ And she went out and said to her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist. ²⁵ And immediately going in with haste to the king, she asked, saying, I desire that you give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.

⁴⁰ And those of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, Are we also blind?

²² Abstain from every appearance of evil.

⁶ And he scorned to lay hands only on Mordecai, for they had revealed to him the people of Mordecai. And Haman sought to destroy all the Jews throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, the people of Mordecai.

⁵ And King Ahasuerus answered and said to Esther the queen, Who is he, and where is the one who dares presume in his heart to do so? ⁶ And Esther said, The man who is our adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman. And Haman was afraid before the king and the queen.

¹⁸ a heart that plots wicked plans, feet hurrying to run to evil,

²⁹ He who is slow to wrath is of great understanding, but he who is hasty of spirit exalts folly.

³² He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit is better than he who takes a city.

²⁴ Make no friendship with an angry man; and you shall not go up with a man of fury,

⁹ Do not be hasty in your spirit to be angry; for anger rests in the bosom of fools.

⁷ Also the weapons of the fool are evil; he thinks of wicked ways to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaks right.

²⁶ For among My people are found wicked ones; they lie in wait, as one who sets snares; they set a trap, they catch men. ²⁷ Like a cage full of birds, so their houses are full of deceit; therefore they have become great and grown rich. ²⁸ They have become fat, they shine. Yes, they go past the deeds of the wicked; they do not judge the cause, the cause of the fatherless, that they may get rich; and they do not judge the right of the needy. ²⁹ Shall I not visit for these things? says Jehovah. Shall not My soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

¹⁹ Therefore, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.

³⁵ The wise shall inherit glory; but shame shall be the promotion of fools.

⁷ Wisdom is the main thing; get wisdom; and with all your getting get understanding. ⁸ Prize her, and she shall lift you up; she shall bring you to honor when you embrace her. ⁹ She shall give to your hand an ornament of grace; she shall shield you with a crown of glory.

²⁹ He who troubles his own house shall inherit the wind; and the fool shall be servant to the wise in heart. ³⁰ The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he who takes souls is wise.

¹⁹ O Jehovah, my strength and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the nations shall come to You from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and there is no profit in them.

¹⁷ But we will certainly do whatever thing goes forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our rulers, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem. For then we had plenty of food, and were well, and saw no evil.

³ And those who are wise shall shine as the brightness of the sky; and those who turn many to righteousness shall shine as the stars forever and ever.

²⁹ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you build the tombs of the prophets, and decorate the tombs of the righteous, ³⁰ and say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets. ³¹ Therefore you are witnesses to yourselves, that you are the sons of those who killed the prophets; ³² and you fill up the measure of your fathers.

⁸ Now there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that Day; and not to me only, but also to all those who love His appearing.

¹⁸ knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, silver or gold, from your vain manner of life handed down from your fathers,

⁴ And when the Chief Shepherd shall appear, you shall receive a never-fading crown of glory.

⁶ And Joseph was the potentate over the land. He was the one selling to all the people of the earth. And Joseph's brothers came and bowed down themselves before him, their faces to the earth.

²⁸ And they answered, Your servant, our father, is in good health. He is still alive. And they bowed down their heads and fell before him.

⁸ And Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, Pray to Jehovah that He may take away the frogs from me and from my people. And I will let the people go, so that they may sacrifice to Jehovah.

²⁷ And Pharaoh sent and called for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, I have sinned this time. Jehovah is righteous, and I and my people are wicked. ²⁸ Pray to Jehovah, for it is enough. Let there be no mighty thunderings and hail. And I will let you go, and you shall stay no longer.

⁸ And all these, your servants, shall come down to me and bow themselves down to me, saying, You and all the people that follow you get out. And after that I will go out. And he went out from Pharaoh in a great anger.

³⁶ And it shall be that everyone who is left in your house shall come and bow down to him for a piece of silver and a piece of bread. And they shall say, Please put me into one of the priests' offices so that I may eat a piece of bread.

¹² And Jehoshaphat said, The Word of Jehovah is with him. And the king of Israel, and Jehoshaphat, and the king of Edom went down to him.

⁷ And the king, arising from the banquet of wine in his wrath, went into the palace garden. And Haman stood up to beg for his life from Esther the queen, for he saw that evil was determined against him by the king. ⁸ And the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine. And Haman had fallen on the bed on which Esther was. And the king said, Will he also force the queen before me in the house? As the word went out of the king's mouth, they covered Haman's face.

¹⁴ Like sheep they are appointed to the grave; death shall reign for them; and the upright shall have the rule over them in the morning; and their form is for rotting; the grave is their home.

⁹ I will bear the fury of Jehovah, because I have sinned against Him, until He pleads my cause and brings out judgment for me. He will bring me out to the light, and I shall behold His righteousness. ¹⁰ Then my enemy shall see it; and shame shall cover her who said to me, Where is Jehovah your God? My eyes shall behold her; now she shall be trampled like the mud of the streets.

¹⁶ The nations shall see and be ashamed at all their might; they shall lay their hand on their mouth; their ears shall be deaf. ¹⁷ They shall lick the dust like a snake; they shall move out of their holes like worms of the earth. They shall dread Jehovah our God, and shall fear because of You.

³ And you shall trample the wicked, for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day which I am preparing, says Jehovah of Hosts.

³⁹ And coming they begged them. And bringing them out, they asked them to depart out of the city.

⁹ Behold, I give out of those of the synagogue of Satan, those saying themselves to be Jews and are not, but lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you.

² And all the king's servants in the king's gate bowed and worshiped Haman, for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai did not bow nor worship.

¹⁰ But Haman held himself in. And when he came home, he sent and called for his friends and Zeresh his wife. ¹¹ And Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and his many sons, and all to which the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king.

²¹ Surely now you are like them; you see my casting down, and are afraid. ²² Did I say, Give to me? or, Offer a bribe for me from your wealth; ²³ or, Deliver me from the enemy's hand; or, Redeem me from the hand of the mighty?

¹³ He has put my brothers far from me, and my friends have truly turned away from me. ¹⁴ My people have fallen away, and my familiar friends have forgotten me.

¹⁰ They despise me, and they flee far from me; they do not spare spit from my face.

¹⁵ The rich man's wealth is his strong city; the ruin of the poor is their poverty.

⁴ Wealth makes many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbor.

⁶ Many will beg the favor of a ruler, and all are friends to a man who gives gifts. ⁷ All the brothers of the poor man hate him; how much more do his friends go far from him? He pursues them with words, yet they are lacking.

¹³ If I despised the cause of my man servant or of my slave-girl, when they argued with me; ¹⁴ what then shall I do when God rises up? And when He calls me to account, what shall I answer Him? ¹⁵ Did not He who made me in the womb make him? And did not One shape us in the womb?

⁵ Look to the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds; they are higher than you. ⁶ If you sin, what do you do against Him? Or if your transgressions are multiplied, what do you do to Him?

²⁴ For He has not despised nor hated the affliction of the afflicted; and He has not hidden His face from him, but when he cried to Him, He heard.

¹ To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. Blessed is he who acts wisely toward the poor; Jehovah will deliver him in time of trouble. ² Jehovah will watch over him and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed on the earth; and You will not deliver him to the soul of his enemies.

⁵ A good man shows favor, and lends; he will guide his business with fairness.

⁹ He has scattered abroad; he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever; his horn shall be lifted up with honor.

²⁴ There is one who scatters and yet increases; but one who withholds just due comes only to poverty. ²⁵ The soul who gives freely shall be made fat; and he who waters shall also be watered himself.

³¹ He who presses the poor curses his Maker, but he who honors Him has mercy upon the poor.

⁵ Whoever scorns the poor reviles his Maker; he who is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.

³ When the wicked comes, scorn also comes, and with shame comes reproach.

¹⁷ He who has pity upon the poor lends to Jehovah, and He will reward his dealing to him.

²⁷ He who gives to the poor shall not lack, but he who hides his eyes shall have many a curse.

¹ Cast your bread on the waters; for you shall find it after many days. ² Give a share to seven, and also to eight; for you know not what evil shall be on the earth.

⁷ Is it not to break your bread to the hungry, and that you should bring home the wandering poor? When will you see the naked and cover him; and you will not hide yourself from your own flesh? ⁸ Then shall your light break out as the dawn, and your health shall spring out quickly; and your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of Jehovah shall gather you. ⁹ Then you shall call, and Jehovah shall answer; you shall cry, and He shall say, Here I am. If you take the yoke away from among you, the pointing of the finger, and speaking vanity; ¹⁰ and if you draw out your soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall your light rise in darkness, and your darkness shall be as the noonday.

²⁷ Therefore, O king, let my advice be pleasing to you, and break off your sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor, whether there will be duration to your prosperity.

³⁴ Then the King shall say to those on His right hand, Come, blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. ³⁵ For I was hungry, and you gave me food; I was thirsty, and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger, and you took Me in; ³⁶ I was naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me. ³⁷ Then the righteous shall answer Him, saying, Lord, when did we see You hungry, and fed You? Or thirsty, and gave You drink? ³⁸ When did we see You a stranger, and took You in? Or naked, and clothed You? ³⁹ Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and came to You? ⁴⁰ And the King shall answer and say to them, Truly I say to you, Inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brothers, you have done it to Me. ⁴¹ Then He also shall say to those on the left hand, Depart from Me, you cursed, into everlasting fire prepared for the Devil and his angels. ⁴² For I was hungry, and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty, and you gave Me no drink; ⁴³ I was a stranger and you did not take Me in; I was naked, and you did not clothe Me; I was sick, and in prison, and you did not visit me. ⁴⁴ Then they will also answer Him, saying, Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to You? ⁴⁵ Then He shall answer them, saying, Truly I say to you, Inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me. ⁴⁶ And these shall go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into everlasting life.

³⁰ Give to everyone who asks of you, and from him who takes away your goods, do not ask them again. ³¹ And as you desire that men should do to you, you do also to them likewise. ³² For if you love those who love you, what thanks do you have? For sinners also love those who love them. ³³ And if you do good to those who do good to you, what thanks do you have? For sinners also do the same. ³⁴ And if you lend to those of whom you hope to receive, what thanks do you have? For sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again. ³⁵ But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return. And your reward shall be great, and you shall be the sons of the Highest. For He is kind to the unthankful and to the evil. ³⁶ Therefore be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.

⁹ And He spoke this parable to certain ones who trusted in themselves, that they were righteous, and despised others:

³⁵ I have shown you all things, that working in this way we ought to help the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

¹² that you be not slothful, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

⁵ Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He has promised to those who love Him? ⁶ But you dishonored the poor one. Do not rich men oppress you and draw you before the judgment seats?

¹⁴ My brothers, what profit is it if a man says he has faith and does not have works? Can faith save him? ¹⁵ If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, ¹⁶ and if one of you says to them, Go in peace, be warmed and filled, but you do not give them those things which are needful to the body, what good is it?

¹⁷ But whoever has this world's goods and sees his brother having need, and shuts up his bowels from him, how does the love of God dwell in him? ¹⁸ My children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. ¹⁹ And in this we shall know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him, ²⁰ that if our heart accuses us, God is greater than our heart and knows all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our heart does not accuse us, we have confidence toward God. ²² And whatever we ask, we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.

²⁷ And he said, Blessed be Jehovah, the God of my master Abraham, who has not left my master destitute of His mercy and His truth. Jehovah led me, I being in the way to the house of my master's brothers.

⁸ But Jehovah said to David my father, Because it was in your heart to build a house for My name, you did well in that it was in your heart.

¹⁰ All the paths of Jehovah are mercy and truth to those who keep His covenant and His testimonies.

⁷ He shall abide before God forever; prepare mercy and truth to preserve him.

²⁹ Do not plan evil against your neighbor, since he dwells trustingly by you.

¹⁷ He who is soon angry acts foolishly, and a man of wicked plots is hated.

²² The charm of a man is his kindness, and a poor man is better than a liar.

⁷ Blessed are the merciful! For they shall obtain mercy.

¹⁷ For the Law came through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

¹⁰ He who winks the eye causes sorrow; but a babbling fool shall fall.

²⁴ The hand of the hard worker shall bear rule, but the lazy shall be under service.

¹⁹ He who tills his land shall have plenty of bread, but he pursuing vanities shall have poverty enough.

³ For a dream comes through the multitude of business; and a fool's voice by the multitude of words.

²⁷ Do not labor for the food that perishes, but for that food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you. For God the Father sealed Him.

¹⁰ For even when we were with you, we commanded you this, that if anyone would not work, neither should he eat. ¹¹ For we hear that there are some who walk disorderly among you, not working at all, but being busybodies. ¹² Now we command and exhort those who are such, by our Lord Jesus Christ, that they work with quietness and eat their own bread.

¹³ And with it all they also learn to be idle, going around the houses; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things they ought not.

¹⁰ For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister. ¹¹ And we desire that each one of you show the same eagerness to the full assurance of hope to the end,

¹⁰ For he sees wise men die; likewise the fool and the animal-like ones perish, and leave their wealth to others. ¹¹ Their inward thought is that their houses shall go on forever, and their dwelling-places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names. ¹² But man, though high in honor, does not remain; he is like the animals that perish. ¹³ This way of theirs is their foolishness; yet their followers delight in their sayings. Selah.

²² Though you should pound a fool in a bowl with a bar in the midst of wheat, his foolishness will not depart from him.

¹¹ Wisdom is good with an inheritance; but it is gain to those who see the sun. ¹² For wisdom is a defense, and money is a defense; but the excellency of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it.

⁶ And He will be the security of your times, and strength of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge; the fear of Jehovah is his treasure.

⁹ And I say to you, Make friends by the mammon of unrighteousness for yourselves, so that when you fail, they may receive you into everlasting dwellings.

¹⁹ There was a certain rich man who was customarily clothed in purple and fine linen and making merry in luxury every day. ²⁰ And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores ²¹ and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. But even the dogs came and licked his sores. ²² And it happened that the beggar died and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom. The rich one also died and was buried. ²³ And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. ²⁴ And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am tormented in this flame. ²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things. But now he is comforted and you are tormented.

⁵ A faithful witness will not lie, but a false witness will speak lies.

²¹ testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

²⁶ Therefore I testify to you on this day that I am pure from the blood of all. ²⁷ For I did not keep back from declaring to you all the counsel of God.

¹⁶ But rise and stand on your feet, for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of what you saw, and in what I shall appear to you; ¹⁷ delivering you from the people and the nations, to whom I now send you ¹⁸ in order to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light, and from the authority of Satan to God, so that they may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me. ¹⁹ After this, king Agrippa, I did not disobey the heavenly vision. ²⁰ But to those first in Damascus, and Jerusalem, and to all the country of Judea, and to the nations, I made known the command to repent and to turn to God, doing works worthy of repentance

¹ But the Spirit expressly says that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and teachings of demons, ² speaking lies in hypocrisy, being seared in their own conscience, ³ forbidding to marry, saying to abstain from foods which God has created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

³ First, knowing this, that there will come in the last days scoffers walking according to their own lusts

⁴² Unless the God of my fathers, the God of Abraham, and the Fear of Isaac had been with me, surely you would have sent me away now empty. God has seen my affliction and the labor of my hands, and rebuked you last night.

⁷ The Angel of Jehovah camps round about those who fear Him, and delivers them. ⁸ Taste and see that Jehovah is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him. ⁹ O fear Jehovah, His holy ones; for there is nothing lacking to those who fear Him. ¹⁰ The young lions lack, and suffer hunger; but those who seek Jehovah shall not lack any good thing. ¹¹ Come, listen to me, my sons; I will teach you the fear of Jehovah.

⁶ Surely he shall not be moved forever; the righteous shall be remembered forever. ⁷ He shall not be afraid of bad news; his heart is fixed, trusting in Jehovah. ⁸ His heart is sure; he shall not be afraid though he sees his oppressors.

¹³ He will bless those who fear Jehovah, both small and great. ¹⁴ Jehovah shall add on to you, even on you and on your sons.

⁷ Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear Jehovah and depart from evil. ⁸ Healing shall be to your navel and marrow to your bones.

²⁵ Do not be afraid of sudden fear, nor of the destroying of the wicked, when it comes. ²⁶ For Jehovah shall be your hope, and shall keep your foot from being taken.

¹⁰ The name of Jehovah is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.

²³ The fear of Jehovah tends to life, and he rests satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

¹⁸ It is good that you should take hold of this; yea, also from this do not withdraw your hand; for he who fears God shall come forth from all of them.

²⁰ Come, my people, enter into your rooms and shut your doors around you; hide for a little moment, until the fury has passed by. ²¹ For behold, Jehovah comes out of His place to punish the people of the earth for their iniquity; the earth also shall reveal her blood, and shall no more cover her dead.

¹¹ Jehovah said, Truly I will free you for good. Truly I will cause the enemy to entreat you in the time of evil and in the time of affliction.

³⁹ And I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear Me forever, for their good and for the good of their sons after them. ⁴⁰ And I will cut an everlasting covenant with them that I will not turn away from them, to do them good. But I will put My fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from Me.

¹⁶ Then those fearing Jehovah spoke together, each man to his neighbor. And Jehovah listened and heard. And a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who feared Jehovah, and for those esteeming His name. ¹⁷ And they shall be Mine, says Jehovah of Hosts, for the day that I will make up My treasure. And I will pity them as a man has pity on his son who serves him. ¹⁸ Then you shall again see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between him who serves God, and him who does not serve Him.

² But to you who fear My name, the Sun of Righteousness shall arise, and healing will be on His wings. And you shall go out and frisk like calves of the stall.

⁵ The sorrows of hell surrounded me; the snares of death confronted me.

¹⁰ When wisdom enters into your heart, and knowledge is pleasing to your soul; ¹¹ judgment shall keep you, understanding shall keep you, ¹² to deliver you from the way of the evil man, from the man who speaks wicked things; ¹³ those who leave the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness, ¹⁴ who rejoice to do evil and delight in the perversities of the wicked; ¹⁵ whose ways are crooked, and are devious in their paths. ¹⁶ They will deliver you from the strange woman, the stranger who flatters with her words, ¹⁷ who forsakes the guide of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God. ¹⁸ For her house bows down to death, and her paths to the dead.

¹⁴ The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

⁵ Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse; he who keeps his soul shall be far from them.

²⁶ and I find more bitter than death the woman whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands like bands. Whoever pleases God shall escape from her, but the sinner shall be taken by her.

⁶ And He said to me, It is done. I am the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who thirsts I will give of the fountain of the Water of Life freely.

¹² But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the sons of Israel.

²² And Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, Every son that is born you shall cast into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive.

²⁰ Judah and Israel were many, as the sand by the sea in multitude; eating and drinking and making merry. ²¹ And Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the River to the land of the Philistines, and to the border of Egypt. They brought presents and served Solomon all the days of his life.

²⁷ And the sons of Israel were numbered, and were fed, and went to meet them. And the sons of Israel pitched before them like two little flocks of goats. And the Syrians filled the country.

³² In those days Jehovah began to cut Israel short. And Hazael struck them in all the border of Israel, ³³ from Jordan toward the rising of the sun, all the land of Gilead, the men of Gad and of Reuben and of Manasseh, from Aroer, by the river Arnon, even Gilead and Bashan.

⁷ For He had not left a people remaining to Jehoahaz, but only fifty horsemen and ten chariots and ten thousand footmen; for the king of Syria had destroyed them and had made them like the dust at threshing-time.

³ (Now the man Moses was very meek, more than all the men on the face of the earth.)

⁸ Prize her, and she shall lift you up; she shall bring you to honor when you embrace her.

¹¹ The judgment of a man puts off his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

²⁴ Make no friendship with an angry man; and you shall not go up with a man of fury, ²⁵ lest you learn his ways and get a snare to your soul.

⁸ Do not go forth quickly to fight, lest you know not what to do in the end of it, when your neighbor has put you to shame.

²⁸ He who has no rule over his own spirit is like a broken down city without a wall.

⁶ foolishness is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in low place.

¹⁹ Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with wrath, and the form of his face was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He spoke and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated. ²⁰ And he commanded mighty men in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to throw them into the burning fiery furnace. ²¹ Then these men were tied up in their slippers, their tunics, and their mantles, and their other clothes, and were thrown into the middle of the burning fiery furnace. ²² Then because the king's commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. ²³ And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. ²⁴ Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was amazed. And he rose up in haste and spoke and said to his advisers, Did we not throw three men bound into the middle of the fire? They answered and said to the king, True, O king. ²⁵ He answered and said, Behold! I see four men loose, walking in the middle of the fire, and there is no harm among them. And the form of the fourth is like a son of the gods.

¹⁶ Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked by the wise men, was greatly enraged. And he sent and killed all the boys in Bethlehem, and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had carefully inquired of the wise men.

²⁹ Take My yoke on you and learn of Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you shall find rest to your souls.

⁴ Charity has patience, is kind; charity is not envious, is not vain, is not puffed up; ⁵ does not behave indecently, does not seek her own, is not easily provoked, thinks no evil.

¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first truly pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. ¹⁸ And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

² For vexation kills the fool, and envy slays the simple one.

¹⁰ The wicked shall see and be vexed; he shall gnash with his teeth and melt away; the desire of the wicked shall perish.

⁸⁰ Let my heart be sound in Your Precepts, so that I may not be ashamed.

⁸ Healing shall be to your navel and marrow to your bones.

²³ Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

⁴ A woman of virtue is a crown to her husband, but she who causes shame is like rottenness in his bones.

²² A merry heart does good like a medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones.

⁹ And being jealous of Joseph, the patriarchs sold Joseph into Egypt. But God was with him

²⁹ being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; being full of envy, murder, quarrels, deceit, evil habits, becoming whisperers,

⁷ For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

⁵ Do you think that the Scripture says in vain, The spirit that dwells in us yearns to envy?

¹³ If I despised the cause of my man servant or of my slave-girl, when they argued with me; ¹⁴ what then shall I do when God rises up? And when He calls me to account, what shall I answer Him? ¹⁵ Did not He who made me in the womb make him? And did not One shape us in the womb? ¹⁶ If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

⁵ For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, I will now arise, says Jehovah. I will set in safety, he pants for it.

²¹ He who despises his neighbor sins, but he who has mercy on the poor, happy is he.

² The rich and poor meet together; Jehovah is the maker of them all.

¹⁶ He who crushes the poor to multiply for himself, and he who gives to the rich, only to come to poverty.

²² Do not rob the poor, because he is poor; nor press down the afflicted in the gate; ²³ for Jehovah will plead their cause, and strip the soul of those who plunder them.

⁸ If you see the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, do not marvel at the matter. For He who is higher than the highest watches; and there are some higher than they.

⁸ For you have the poor with you always; but you do not always have Me.

⁷ But even as you abound in everything, in faith, and in word, and in knowledge, and in all earnestness, and in your love to us; you should abound in this grace also. ⁸ I do not speak according to command, but through the eagerness of others, and testing the trueness of your love. ⁹ For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, for your sakes He became poor, in order that you might be made rich through His poverty.

¹⁷ But whoever has this world's goods and sees his brother having need, and shuts up his bowels from him, how does the love of God dwell in him? ¹⁸ My children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. ¹⁹ And in this we shall know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him, ²⁰ that if our heart accuses us, God is greater than our heart and knows all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our heart does not accuse us, we have confidence toward God.

²¹ And we have this commandment from Him, that he who loves God should love his brother also.

¹⁸ I have waited for Your salvation, O Jehovah.

¹⁵ Though he slay me, I will not wait, but I will maintain my own ways before Him.

¹⁸ They drive him from light to darkness, and they make him flee from the world.

²⁵ For I know that my Redeemer lives, and He shall rise on the earth at the last; ²⁶ and even after they corrupt my skin, yet this: in my flesh I shall see God, ²⁷ whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not a stranger's; though my heart be exhausted in my bosom.

²⁰ Terrors overtake him like waters; a tempest steals him away in the night. ²¹ The east wind lifts him up, and he is gone; for it whirls him out of his place. ²² For it will hurl at him, and will not spare; he will surely flee out of its hand.

¹¹ You will make Me know the way of life; in Your presence is fullness of joys. At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

¹⁵ As for me, I will behold Your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with Your image.

⁴ Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

³⁷ Watch the perfect and behold the upright one; for the end of that man is peace.

⁹ Before your pots can feel the thorns, whether green or glowing, He shall sweep it away.

¹⁵ Therefore his calamity shall come suddenly; he is quickly broken, and there is no healing.

¹⁶ for a just one falls seven times, and rises up again; but the wicked shall fall into evil.

²⁶ This is the meaning of the thing: A MINA, God has numbered your kingdom and finished it. ²⁷ A SHEKEL, You are weighed in the balances and found wanting. ²⁸ HALF-MINAS, Your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians. ²⁹ Then Belshazzar commanded, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet and a golden chain around his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom. ³⁰ In that night Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans was killed.

²⁹ Lord, now You will let Your servant depart in peace, according to Your word.

²¹ Then Jesus said again to them, I go away, and you shall seek Me and shall die in your sins. Where I go, you cannot come.

²⁴ Therefore I said to you that you shall die in your sins, for if you do not believe that I AM, you shall die in your sins.

²² What if God, willing to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much long-suffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction;

⁵⁵ O death, where is your sting? O grave, where is your victory?" ⁵⁶ The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the Law. ⁵⁷ But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁵⁸ So that, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not without fruit in the Lord.

⁹ But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, so that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead;

⁸ then we are confident and we are pleased rather to go away from home out of the body, and to come home to the Lord.

²¹ For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

²³ For I am pressed together by the two: having a desire to depart and to be with Christ, which is far better.

³ For when they shall say, Peace and safety! Then sudden destruction comes on them, as travail upon a woman with child. And they shall not escape.

¹⁸ And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work and will preserve me to His heavenly kingdom, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

¹³ And I heard a voice from Heaven saying to me, Write, Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on. Yes, says the Spirit, they shall rest from their labors, and their works follow them.

²³ A wise man conceals knowledge, but the heart of fools cries out foolishness.

¹⁶ Every wise one deals with knowledge, but a fool lays open his folly.

² The tongue of the wise uses knowledge rightly, but the mouth of fools pours out foolishness.

²⁸ The heart of the righteous studies to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.

¹¹ A fool speaks all his mind; but a wise one keeps it in until afterwards.

³ Yes also, in the way a fool walks, his heart fails; and he says to all that he is a fool.

⁶ And you shall keep and do them, for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people. ⁷ For who is a great nation whose God is coming near to them, as Jehovah our God is, in all our calling on Him? ⁸ And who is a great nation whose statutes and judgments are so righteous as all this Law which I set before you today?

¹ And it will be, if you shall listen carefully to the voice of Jehovah your God, to observe and to do all His commandments which I command you today, Jehovah your God will set you on high above all nations of the earth. ² And all these blessings shall come on you and overtake you, if you will listen to the voice of Jehovah your God. ³ You shall be blessed in the city, and be blessed in the field. ⁴ The fruit of your body shall be blessed, and the fruit of your ground, and the fruit of your cattle, the increase of your cows, and the flocks of your sheep. ⁵ Your basket and your store shall be blessed. ⁶ You shall be blessed when you come in, and blessed when you go out. ⁷ Jehovah shall cause your enemies that rise up against you to be stricken before your face. They shall come out against you one way, and flee before you seven ways. ⁸ Jehovah shall command the blessing on you in your storehouses, and all that you set your hand to. And He shall bless you in the land which Jehovah your God gives you. ⁹ Jehovah shall establish you a holy people to Himself, as He has sworn to you, if you shall keep the commandments of Jehovah your God and walk in His ways. ¹⁰ And all the peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of Jehovah, and they shall be afraid of you. ¹¹ And Jehovah shall prosper you in goods, in the fruit of your body, and in the fruit of your cattle, and in the fruit of your ground, in the land which Jehovah swore to your fathers to give you. ¹² Jehovah shall open to you His good treasure, the heaven to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. And you shall loan to many nations, and you shall not borrow. ¹³ And Jehovah shall make you the head, and not the tail. And you shall be always above, and you shall not be beneath, if you listen to the commandments of Jehovah your God, which I command you today, to observe and to do them. ¹⁴ And you shall not go aside from any of the words which I command you today, to the right hand or the left, to go after other gods to serve them. ¹⁵ And it shall be, if you will not listen to the voice of Jehovah your God, to observe and to do all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today, all these curses shall come on you and overtake you. ¹⁶ You shall be cursed in the city, and cursed in the field. ¹⁷ Your basket and your store shall be cursed. ¹⁸ The fruit of your body shall be cursed, and the fruit of your land, the increase of your cows, and the flocks of your sheep. ¹⁹ You shall be cursed when you come in, and cursed when you go out. ²⁰ Jehovah shall send on you cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in all that you set your hand to do, until you are destroyed, and until you perish quickly, because of the wickedness of your doings by which you have forsaken Me. ²¹ Jehovah shall make the plague cling to you until He has consumed you from off the land where you go to possess it. ²² Jehovah shall strike you with lung disease and with a fever, and with an inflammation, and with an extreme burning, and with the sword, and with blasting, and with mildew. And they shall pursue you until you perish. ²³ And your heavens over your head shall be bronze, and the earth that is under you iron. ²⁴ Jehovah shall make the rain of your land powder and dust. It shall come down from the heavens on you until you are destroyed. ²⁵ Jehovah shall cause you to be stricken before your enemies. You shall go out one way against them, and flee seven ways before them. And you shall be a trembling to all the kingdoms of the earth. ²⁶ And your body shall be food to all birds of the air, and to the beasts of the earth. And no man shall frighten them away. ²⁷ Jehovah will strike you with the boils of Egypt, and with the hemorrhoids, and with the scab, and with the itch, of which you cannot be healed. ²⁸ Jehovah shall strike you with madness and blindness, and astonishment of heart. ²⁹ And you shall grope at noonday, as the blind gropes in darkness, and you shall not prosper in your ways. And you shall always be pressed down and spoiled forever, and no man shall save you. ³⁰ You shall become engaged to a wife, and another man shall lie with her. You shall build a house, and you shall not live in it. You shall plant a vineyard, and you shall not gather the grapes of it. ³¹ Your ox shall be slain before your eyes, and you shall not eat of it. Your ass shall be violently taken away from before your face, and shall not be restored to you, your sheep given to your enemies, and you shall have none to rescue them. ³² Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another people, and your eyes shall look and fail for them all the day long. And there shall be no power in your hand. ³³ The fruit of your land, and all your labors, shall be eaten up by a nation which you do not know. And you shall always be oppressed and crushed, ³⁴ and you shall be mad because of that which you shall see with the sight of your eyes. ³⁵ Jehovah shall strike you in the knees and in the legs with an evil ulcer that cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot to the top of your head. ³⁶ Jehovah shall bring you, and your king which you shall set over you, to a nation which neither you nor your fathers have known. And there you shall serve other gods, wood and stone. ³⁷ And you shall become an astonishment, a proverb, and a by-word among all nations where Jehovah shall lead you. ³⁸ You shall carry much seed out into the field, and shall gather little in, for the locust shall eat it. ³⁹ You shall plant vineyards and dress them, but shall neither drink the wine nor gather, for the worm shall eat them. ⁴⁰ You shall have olive trees throughout all your coasts, but you shall not anoint with the oil, for your olive shall drop off its fruit. ⁴¹ You shall father sons and daughters, but you shall not enjoy them, for they shall go into captivity. ⁴² All your trees and the fruit of your land the locust shall possess. ⁴³ The stranger within you shall get up above you very high, and you shall come down very low. ⁴⁴ He shall loan to you, and you shall not loan to him. He shall be the head, and you shall be the tail. ⁴⁵ And all these curses shall come on you, and shall pursue you and overtake you, until you are destroyed, because you did not listen to the voice of Jehovah your God, to keep His commandments and His statutes which He commanded you. ⁴⁶ And they shall be on you for a sign and for a wonder, and on your seed forever. ⁴⁷ Because you did not serve Jehovah your God with joyfulness and with gladness of heart for the abundance of all things; ⁴⁸ therefore you shall serve your enemies which Jehovah shall send against you, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in the lack of all things. And he shall put a yoke of iron on your neck until he has destroyed you. ⁴⁹ Jehovah shall bring a nation against you from far, from the end of the earth, as the eagle flies; a nation whose tongue you shall not understand, ⁵⁰ a nation fierce of face who shall not regard the person of the old, nor show favor to the young. ⁵¹ And he shall eat the fruit of your cattle and the fruit of your land, until you are destroyed. He shall not leave you grain, wine, or oil, the increase of your livestock, or flocks of your sheep, until he has destroyed you. ⁵² And he shall besiege you in all your gates until your high and fortified walls in which you trusted come down, throughout all the land. And he shall besiege you in all your gates throughout all your land which Jehovah your God has given you. ⁵³ And you shall eat the fruit of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters, which Jehovah your God has given you, in the siege and in the anguish with which your enemies shall distress you. ⁵⁴ The man that is tender among you, and very delicate, his eye shall be evil toward his brother and toward the wife of his bosom, and toward the rest of his sons which he has left; ⁵⁵ so that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his sons whom he shall eat, because he has nothing left to him in the siege and in the anguish with which your enemies shall distress you in all your gates. ⁵⁶ The tender and delicate woman among you, who would not have ventured to set the sole of her foot on the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom, and toward her son, and toward her daughter, ⁵⁷ and toward her young one who comes out from between her feet, and toward her sons whom she shall bear. For she shall eat them secretly for lack of all things, in the siege and anguish with which your enemies shall distress you in your gates. ⁵⁸ If you will not observe to do all the words of this Law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and fearful name, JEHOVAH YOUR GOD, ⁵⁹ then Jehovah will make your plagues remarkable, and the plagues of your seed great and persistent plagues; with evil and long-lasting sicknesses. ⁶⁰ Also, He will bring on you all the diseases of Egypt of which you were afraid. And they shall cling to you. ⁶¹ Also, every sickness and every plague which is not written in the book of this Law, Jehovah will bring them on you until you are destroyed. ⁶² And you shall be left few in number, whereas you were as the stars of the heavens for multitude, because you would not obey the voice of Jehovah your God. ⁶³ And it shall be, as Jehovah rejoiced over you to do you good and to multiply you, so Jehovah will rejoice over you to destroy you and to bring you to nothing. And you shall be plucked from off the land where you go to possess it. ⁶⁴ And Jehovah shall scatter you among all people, from the one end of the earth even to the other, and you shall serve other gods there, which neither you nor your fathers have known, wood and stone. ⁶⁵ And among these nations you shall find no ease, neither shall the sole of your foot have rest. But Jehovah shall give you there a trembling heart and failing of eyes and sorrow of mind. ⁶⁶ And your life shall hang in doubt before you, and you shall fear day and night, and shall have no assurance of your life. ⁶⁷ In the morning you shall say, Oh that it were evening! And at evening you shall say, Oh that it were morning, for the fear of your heart with which you shall fear, and for the sight of your eyes which you shall see. ⁶⁸ And Jehovah shall bring you into Egypt again with ships, by the way of which I said to you, You shall see it no more again. And there you shall be sold to your enemies for men-slaves and women-slaves, and no man shall buy you.

¹⁸ lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turns away today from Jehovah our God, to go serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that bears gall and wormwood, ¹⁹ and it happens when he hears the words of this curse, that he shall bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart, to snatch away the drunken with the thirsty. ²⁰ Jehovah will not be willing to forgive him, but then the anger of Jehovah and His jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie on him, and Jehovah shall blot out his name from under heavens. ²¹ And Jehovah shall set him apart to evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in this book of the Law; ²² so that the generation to come of your sons that shall rise up after you, and the stranger that shall come from a far land, shall say (when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which Jehovah has laid on it) ²³ the whole land shall be burned with brimstone, and salt; it shall not be sown; nor shall it sprout; nor shall there be any grass in it. It shall be like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which Jehovah overthrew in His anger, and in His wrath, ²⁴ even all nations shall say, Why has Jehovah done this to this land? For what is the heat of this great anger? ²⁵ Then men shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of Jehovah, the God of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them forth out of the land of Egypt. ²⁶ For they went and served other gods, and worshiped them, gods whom they did not know, and who had not given to them any portion. ²⁷ And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against this land, to bring on it all the curses that are written in this book. ²⁸ And Jehovah rooted them out of their land in anger and wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is today.

⁶ And when Joshua had let the people go, the sons of Israel left, each man to his inheritance, to possess the land. ⁷ And the people served Jehovah all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of Jehovah that He did for Israel. ⁸ And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Jehovah, died, being a hundred and ten years old. ⁹ And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-heres, in mount Ephraim, on the north side of the hill Gaash. ¹⁰ And also all that generation were gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them who did not know Jehovah, nor even the works which He had done for Israel. ¹¹ And the sons of Israel did evil in the sight of Jehovah, and served Baals. ¹² And they forsook Jehovah, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt. And they followed other gods of the gods of the people who were around them, and bowed themselves to them, and provoked Jehovah to anger. ¹³ And they forsook Jehovah and served Baal and Ashtaroth. ¹⁴ And the anger of Jehovah was hot against Israel, and He delivered them into the hand of spoilers who spoiled them. And He sold them into the hand of their enemies all around, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.

³⁴ a fruitful land to a salty desert, because of the wickedness of those who dwell in it.

² Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, So says Jehovah, I remember you, the kindness of your youth, the love of your betrothals, when you went after Me in the wilderness, in a land not sown. ³ Israel was holiness to Jehovah, and the firstfruits of His increase. All that devour him shall offend; evil shall come on them, says Jehovah. ⁴ Hear the Word of Jehovah, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel. ⁵ So says Jehovah, What injustice have your fathers found in Me, that they have gone far from Me and have walked after vanity, and have become vain? ⁶ Nor did they say, Where is Jehovah who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, who led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of dry places, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man lived? ⁷ And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat its fruit and its goodness; but when you entered, you defiled My land and made My inheritance an abomination. ⁸ The priests did not say, Where is Jehovah? And they who handle the Law did not know Me; the shepherds also rebelled against Me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things not profitable. ⁹ Therefore I will contend with you, says Jehovah, and with your son's sons I will enter into judgment. ¹⁰ For pass over the coasts of Kittim, and see; and send to Kedar, and carefully consider, and see if there is such a thing. ¹¹ Has a nation changed their gods who are yet no gods? But My people have changed their Glory for that which does not profit. ¹² Be amazed, O heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid; be completely desolated, says Jehovah. ¹³ For My people have committed two evils; they have forsaken Me, the Fountain of living waters, to hew out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water. ¹⁴ Is Israel a servant? Or is he a servant of the house? Why has he become a prey? ¹⁵ The young lions roared against him; they gave their voice. And they made his land a waste; his cities are burned without inhabitant. ¹⁶ Also the sons of Noph and Tahapanes have fed on the crown of your head. ¹⁷ Have you not brought this on yourself, in that you have forsaken Jehovah your God, when He led you by the way? ¹⁸ And now what is for you toward the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? Or what for you toward Assyria, to drink the waters of the River? ¹⁹ Your own evil shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you, therefore know and see that it is an evil and bitter thing that you have forsaken Jehovah your God, and that My fear is not in you, says the Lord Jehovah of Hosts. ²⁰ For long ago you broke your yoke and tore up your bonds; and you said, I will not transgress, when on every high hill and under every green tree you lay down like a harlot. ²¹ Yet I planted you a noble vine, wholly a true seed. How then have you turned into the degenerate shoots of an alien vine to Me? ²² For though you wash yourself with potash, and multiply soap for yourself, yet your iniquity is marked before Me, says the Lord Jehovah. ²³ How can you say, I am not defiled; I have not gone after the Baals? See your way in the valley, know what you have done! You are a swift camel crossing its ways; ²⁴ a wild ass used to the wilderness; in the desire of her passion she snuffs at the wind; in her time who can turn her away? All those who seek her will not tire themselves; in her month they will find her. ²⁵ Withhold your foot from being bare, and your throat from thirst. But you said, There is no hope; no; for I have loved strangers, and after them I will go.

¹ Again the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ² Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations. ³ And say, So says the Lord Jehovah to Jerusalem, Your origin and your birth is of the land of Canaan. Your father was an Amorite, and your mother a Hittite. ⁴ And as for your birth, in the day you were born your navel was not cut, nor were you washed with water to cleanse you. And you were not salted, nor swaddled at all. ⁵ No eye pitied you, to do any of these to you, to have compassion on you. But you were thrown out into the open field, because your life was despised in the day that you were born. ⁶ And when I passed by you and saw you squirming in your blood, I said to you in your blood, Live! Yes, I said to you in your blood, Live! ⁷ I have caused you to multiply like the bud of the field, and you are grown, and you are great; and you come in the finest ornaments. Your breasts are formed, and hair is grown, yet you were naked and bare. ⁸ And I passed by you and looked on you, and, behold, your time was the time of love. And I spread my skirt over you and covered your nakedness. And I swore to you and entered into a covenant with you, says the Lord Jehovah. And you became Mine. ⁹ And I washed you with water; I washed away your blood from you, and I anointed you with oil. ¹⁰ I also clothed you with embroidered work, and I shod you with dugong sandals. And I wrapped you in fine linen, and I covered you with silk. ¹¹ And I adorned you with ornaments, and I put bracelets on your hands and a chain on your neck. ¹² And I put a ring on your nose, and earrings in your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head. ¹³ And you were adorned with gold and silver; and your clothing was of fine linen and silk and embroidered work. You ate fine flour and honey and oil; and you were exceedingly beautiful. And you advanced to regal estate. ¹⁴ And your name went out among the nations, because of your beauty; for it was perfect in My beauty, which I had put on you, says the Lord Jehovah. ¹⁵ But you trusted in your beauty, and played the harlot because of your name, and poured out your fornications on all who passed by; it was his. ¹⁶ And you took from your clothes and adorned your high places with different colors, and fornicated on them, such as had not come, nor shall be. ¹⁷ And you have taken beautiful things of My gold and of My silver, which I had given you, and made images of males, and fornicated with them. ¹⁸ And you took your embroidered dresses and covered them, and you have given to their face My oil and My incense. ¹⁹ Also My food which I gave you, fine flour and oil and honey with which I fed you, you have given it to their face for a soothing aroma. And it happened, says the Lord Jehovah. ²⁰ And you have taken your sons and your daughters, whom you have borne to Me, and you gave these to them for food. Are your fornications small? ²¹ You have slaughtered My sons and gave them to cause these to pass through the fire for them. ²² And in all your hateful deeds and your fornications you have not remembered the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare, and squirming in your blood. ²³ Woe, woe to you says the Lord Jehovah! For it happened after all your evil, ²⁴ that you have also built yourself a mound, and you have made yourself a high place in every street. ²⁵ You have built your high place at the head of every way, and have made your beauty to be despised, and have opened your feet to everyone who passed by, and have multiplied your fornications. ²⁶ You have also whored with the Egyptians, your neighbors great of flesh, and have multiplied your fornications to provoke Me to anger. ²⁷ And, behold, therefore I have stretched out My hand over you, and drew back your portion. And I gave you to the will of those who hate you, the daughters of the Philistines, who are ashamed of your wicked way. ²⁸ You have whored with the Assyrians, without your being satisfied; yea, you whored and yet you were not satisfied. ²⁹ And your whoredom is idolatry in the land of Canaan, to the Chaldean, and yet you were not satisfied with this. ³⁰ How weak is your heart, says the Lord Jehovah, since you do all these, the work of a woman, an overbearing harlot; ³¹ in that you build your mound at the head of every way, and make your high place in every street. Yet you have not been as a harlot, scorning wages. ³² Like the adulterous wife, instead of her husband, she takes strangers. ³³ They give a gift to all harlots, but you give your gifts to all your lovers, and bribe them to come to you from all around, for your fornication. ³⁴ And in you was the opposite from those women in your fornications, since no one whores after you, and in your giving wages, and hire is not given to you. In this you are opposite. ³⁵ Therefore, O harlot, hear the Word of Jehovah. ³⁶ So says the Lord Jehovah: Because your lewdness was poured out and your nakedness was bared in your fornications with your lovers, and with all the idols of your abominations, and by the blood of your sons whom you gave to them; ³⁷ behold, therefore I will gather all your lovers, with whom you have been pleased, even all whom you loved, with all whom you have hated; I will even gather them against you from all around, and will uncover your nakedness to them, and they will see all your nakedness. ³⁸ And I will judge you with judgments of adulteresses, and with shedders of blood. And I will give you blood and fury and jealousy. ³⁹ And I will also give you into their hand, and they will tear down your mound, and will demolish your high places. They shall also strip you of your clothes, and shall take your beautiful things, and leave you naked and bare. ⁴⁰ They shall also raise a company against you, and they shall stone you with stones, and cut you with their swords. ⁴¹ And they shall burn your houses with fire, and execute judgments on you in the sight of many women. And I will make you stop whoring; and also, you shall not give hire again. ⁴² And I will make My fury to rest against you, and My jealousy shall depart from you, and I will be quiet and will be angry no more. ⁴³ Because you have not remembered the days of your youth, but have troubled Me in all these things; so, behold, I will also repay your way on your head, says the Lord Jehovah. And you shall not commit this wickedness above all your abominations. ⁴⁴ Behold, all who use proverbs shall use this proverb against you, saying, As the mother, so is her daughter. ⁴⁵ You are your mother's daughter, who despises her husband and her sons. And you are the sister of your sisters, who despise their husbands and their sons. Your mother was a Hittite, and your father an Amorite. ⁴⁶ And your older sister is Samaria, she and her daughters who dwell at your left hand. And your younger sister, who dwells at your right hand, is Sodom and her daughters. ⁴⁷ Yet you have not walked according to their ways, nor done according to their hateful deeds; but, as if it were a very little thing, you were corrupted more than they were in all your ways. ⁴⁸ As I live, says the Lord Jehovah, Sodom your sister, she nor her daughters, has not done as you have done, you and your daughters. ⁴⁹ Behold, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom; pride. Fullness of bread and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters. Nor did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. ⁵⁰ And they were haughty and did abominable things before Me, so I turned away as I saw fit. ⁵¹ Nor has Samaria sinned as much as half your sins; but you have multiplied your abominations more than they, and have justified your sisters in all your abominations which you have done. ⁵² You also, who have judged your sisters, bear your own shame for your sins which you have committed more abominable than they. They are more righteous than you! Yes, blush and bear your shame, since you have justified your sisters. ⁵³ When I shall return their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, then also the captivity of your captivity in their midst; ⁵⁴ that you may bear your shame, and blush in all that you have done, since you are a comfort to them. ⁵⁵ When your sisters, Sodom and her daughters, shall return to their former state, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former state, then you and your daughters shall return to your former state. ⁵⁶ For your sister Sodom was not mentioned by your mouth in the day of your pride, ⁵⁷ before your wickedness was uncovered, as at the time of your reproach of the daughters of Syria, and of all her neighbors, the daughters of the Philistines who hated you from all around. ⁵⁸ You are bearing your wickedness and your abominations, says Jehovah. ⁵⁹ For so says the Lord Jehovah: I will even deal with you as you have done, who have despised the oath in breaking the covenant. ⁶⁰ But I will remember My covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish to you an everlasting covenant. ⁶¹ And you shall remember your ways and be ashamed, when you shall receive your sisters, your older and your younger. And I will give them to you for daughters, but not by your covenant. ⁶² And I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall know that I am Jehovah; ⁶³ so that you may remember and be ashamed; and it will not be possible to open your mouth any more because of your shame; in that I am propitiated for all that you have done, says the Lord Jehovah.

¹ And the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ² And you, son of man, will you judge, will you judge the bloody city? And you shall make her know all her abominations. ³ And you shall say, So says the Lord Jehovah: The city sheds blood in her midst that her time may come, and makes idols against herself to defile herself. ⁴ You are guilty in your blood that you have shed; and you have defiled yourself in your idols you have made. And your days are brought near, and have come to your years. Therefore I have made you a reproach to the nations, and a mocking to all lands. ⁵ Those who are near and those far from you shall mock against you, O defiled of name, abounding in tumult. ⁶ Behold, the rulers of Israel, each man by his might, have been in you in order to shed blood. ⁷ In you they have despised father and mother. In your midst they have dealt with the stranger by oppression. In you they oppressed the orphan and the widow. ⁸ You have despised My holy things, and have profaned My sabbaths. ⁹ In you are men of slander to shed blood; and in you they eat on the mountains; in your midst they do unchaste acts. ¹⁰ In you they have uncovered their fathers' nakedness; in you they have humbled her defiled by impurity. ¹¹ And a man has done abomination with his neighbor's wife; and a man has defiled his daughter-in-law in unchaste acts; and a man has humbled within you his sister, his father's daughter. ¹² In you they have taken bribes to shed blood. You have taken usury and increase, and you gained by extortion of your neighbors, and you have forgotten Me, says the Lord Jehovah. ¹³ And behold, I have struck My palm against your unjust gain which you have made, and at your blood which has been in your midst. ¹⁴ Can your heart stand, or can your hands be strong, in the day that I shall deal with you? I Jehovah have spoken, and I will act. ¹⁵ And I will scatter you among the nations and disperse you in the lands, and will destroy your uncleanness out of you. ¹⁶ And you will be profaned in you before the eyes of the nations, and you shall know that I am Jehovah. ¹⁷ And the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ¹⁸ Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to Me. All of them are bronze, and tin, and iron, and lead, in the middle of the furnace; they are even the dross of silver. ¹⁹ Therefore so says the Lord Jehovah: Because you have all become dross, behold, therefore I will gather you into the middle of Jerusalem. ²⁰ As they gather silver, and bronze, and iron, and lead, and tin, into the middle of the furnace, to blow the fire on it to melt it, so I will gather you in My anger and in My fury, and I will leave you there and melt you. ²¹ And I will gather you and blow on you in the fire of My wrath, and you shall be melted in the middle of it. ²² As silver is melted in the middle of the furnace, so you shall be melted in the middle of it; and you shall know that I Jehovah have poured out My fury on you. ²³ And the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying,

¹ When Ephraim spoke trembling, he was lifted up in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died.

⁴ A perverse heart will depart from me; I will not know the wicked. ⁵ Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, I will cut him off; him who has a high look and a proud heart, I will not allow. ⁶ My eyes shall be on the faithful of the land, so that they may dwell with me; he who walks in a perfect way, he shall serve Me. ⁷ He who works falsely shall not dwell within my house; he who tells lies shall not stay in my sight. ⁸ I will early destroy all the wicked of the land, so that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of Jehovah.

⁵ He who gathers in summer is a wise son; but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who causes shame.

² A wise servant shall have rule over a son who causes shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brothers.

¹² The king's wrath is like the roaring of a lion; but his favor is like dew on the grass. ¹³ A foolish son is ruin to his father, and the quarreling of a wife is a never-ending dripping.

²⁶ He who assaults his father and chases away his mother is a son who causes shame and brings reproach.

⁸ A king who sits in the throne of judgment scatters away all evil with his eyes.

²⁶ A wise king scatters the wicked and brings the wheel over them.

¹¹ He who loves pureness of heart, grace is on his lips; the king shall be his friend.

⁵ Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be founded in righteousness.

¹² If a ruler listens to lies, all his servants are wicked.

⁴⁵ Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his Lord has made ruler over His household, to give them food in due season? ⁴⁶ Blessed is that servant whom his Lord shall find him doing so when He comes. ⁴⁷ Truly I say to you that He shall make him ruler over all His goods. ⁴⁸ But if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My Lord delays His coming, ⁴⁹ and shall begin to strike his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken, ⁵⁰ the Lord of that servant shall come in a day when he does not look for Him, and in an hour which he does not know. ⁵¹ And He shall cut him apart and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

²¹ His lord said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful over a few things; I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.

⁴² And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward whom his lord shall set over his houseservants, to give them their portion of food in season? ⁴³ Blessed is that servant when his lord comes and finds him so doing. ⁴⁴ Truly I say to you that he will set him over all his possessions. ⁴⁵ But if that servant says in his heart, My lord delays his coming, and shall begin to beat the male servants and women servants, and to eat and drink and to be drunk, ⁴⁶ the lord of that servant will come in a day when he does not expect, and at an hour when he does not know. And he will cut him apart, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. ⁴⁷ And that servant who knew his lord's will and did not prepare, nor did according to His will, shall be beaten with many stripes. ⁴⁸ But he not knowing, and doing things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For to whomever much is given, of him much shall be required. And to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
