¹ And the men of Ephraim said to him, What is this thing you have done to us, not to call us when you went to fight with the Midianites? And they rebuked him sharply. ² And he said to them, What have I done now in comparison to you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer? ³ God has delivered into your hands the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb. And what was I able to do in comparison to you? Then their spirits toward him went away when he had said that.

³ When I saw that you did not deliver me, I took my life in my hand and passed over against the sons of Ammon, and Jehovah delivered them into my hand, and why have you come up against me, to fight against me today? ⁴ And Jephthah called up all the men of Gilead and fought with Ephraim. And the men of Gilead struck Ephraim, because they said, You Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites and among the Manassites. ⁵ And the Gileadites took the fords of Jordan before the Ephraimites. For Jehovah will certainly make a sure house for my lord, because my lord fights the battles of Jehovah, and evil has not been found in you all your days. ²⁹ Yet a man has risen to pursue you and to seek your soul. But the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with Jehovah your God. And the souls of your enemies, He shall sling them from the hollow of a sling. ³⁰ And it shall be, when Jehovah has done to my lord according to all the good that He has spoken concerning you, and commanded you to be ruler over Israel, ³¹ this shall be no stumbling to you, nor offense of heart to my lord, either that you have shed blood for nothing, or that my lord has delivered himself. And may Jehovah deal well with my lord, and you remember your handmaid. ³² And David said to Abigail, Blessed be Jehovah, the God of Israel, who sent you today to meet me. ³³ And blessed is your advice, and blessed are you who have kept me from coming to shed blood today, and from delivering myself with my own hand.

⁴³ And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we also have more right in David than you. Why then did you despise us, so that our advice should not be sought first in bringing back our king? And the words of the men of Judah were more fierce than the words of the men of Israel.

¹² Hatred stirs up fights, but love covers all sins.

⁷ Behold, they bellow out with their mouth; swords are in their lips; for they say, Who hears?

²³ A wise man conceals knowledge, but the heart of fools cries out foolishness.

¹¹ A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. ¹² As a ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon a hearing ear.

¹² The words of a wise mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow him. ¹³ The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness; and the end of his talk is wicked madness.

⁴ The Lord Jehovah has given Me the tongue of the learned, to know to help the weary with a word. He wakens morning by morning, He wakens the ear to hear as the learned.

⁹ For the eyes of Jehovah run to and fro in all the whole earth to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is perfect toward Him. You have done foolishly in this; therefore from now on you shall have wars.

⁴ Does He not see my ways, and count all my steps?

²¹ For His eyes are on the ways of man, and He sees all his steps. ²² There is no darkness, nor shadow of death to hide there the workers of iniquity.

²¹ For the ways of man are before the eyes of Jehovah, and He watches all his paths.

¹⁷ For My eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from My face, nor is their iniquity hidden from My eyes.

²⁴ Can anyone hide himself in secret places so that I shall not see him? says Jehovah. Do I not fill the heavens and earth? says Jehovah.

¹⁹ great in wisdom and mighty in work; for Your eyes are open on all the ways of the sons of men, to give every one according to his ways and according to the fruit of his doings.

¹³ Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight, but all things are naked and opened to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.

²² And Jehovah God said, Behold, the man has become as one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put forth his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever, ²³ therefore Jehovah God sent him out from the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he had been taken. ²⁴ And He drove out the man. And He placed cherubs at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

² Your tongue devises evil, like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. ³ You love evil more than good, and lying more than to speak righteousness. Selah. ⁴ You love all devouring words, O deceitful tongue.

²² For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.

¹⁸ She is a tree of life to those who lay hold upon her; and happy is everyone who keeps her.

⁷ He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat of the Tree of Life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

²³ And he said to them, Why do you do such things? For I hear of your evil dealings by all the people. ²⁴ No, my sons, for it is no good report that I hear. You make Jehovah's people to transgress. ²⁵ If one man sins against another, the judge shall judge him. But if a man sins against Jehovah, who shall plead for him? But they did not listen to the voice of their father, because Jehovah desired to kill them.

¹ And it happened after this, Absalom prepared himself chariots and horses and fifty men to run before him. ² And Absalom rose up early and stood beside the way of the gate. And it was so, if any man had a suit to come before the king for judgment, then Absalom called to him and said, What city are you from? And he said, Your servant is of one of the tribes of Israel. ³ And Absalom said to him, See! Your matters are good and right. But no listener from the king will hear you. ⁴ And Absalom said, Oh that I might be made judge in the land, so that every man who has any suit or cause might come to me, and I would do him justice! ⁵ And it was so, when any man came near to bow down to him, he put forth his hand and took him and kissed him. ⁶ And in this way Absalom did to all Israel that came to the king for judgment. ¹¹ Now, my son, may Jehovah be with you and bless you, and build the house of Jehovah your God as He has said of you. ¹² Only may Jehovah give you wisdom and understanding, and direct you concerning Israel, so that you may keep the Law of Jehovah your God. ¹³ Then you shall prosper, if you take heed to fulfil the statutes and judgments with which Jehovah charged Moses, concerning Israel. Be strong and of good courage. Do not fear, nor be dismayed.

⁹ And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve Him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind. For Jehovah searches all hearts and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you. But if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever.

²⁰ And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it. Do not fear, nor be dismayed, for Jehovah God, my God, will be with you. He will not fail you nor leave you until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of Jehovah.

⁵ Let the righteous strike me; it shall be a kindness; and let him correct me, it is oil on my head, let not my head refuse it; for still my prayer also shall be against their wickedness.

²³ Turn at my warning; behold, I will pour out my Spirit to you; I will make my words known to you.

²³ For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life;

¹⁶ A little to the righteous is better than the riches of many wicked.

³ Wealth and riches shall be in his house, and his righteousness stands forever.

²¹ I may cause those who love me to inherit riches; and I will fill their treasuries.

²² The blessing of Jehovah itself makes rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.

²² A good man leaves an inheritance to his sons' sons, and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

¹⁶ Better is a little with the fear of Jehovah than great treasure and tumult with it.

⁸ Better is a little with righteousness than great gain without right.

²⁰ A desirable treasure and oil are in the home of the wise; but a foolish man swallows it up.

⁶ Better is a hand filled with rest than two fists with travail and vexation of spirit.

¹⁰ He who loves silver shall not be satisfied with silver, and he who loves abundance not with gain. This is also vanity. ¹¹ When the good thing increases, those who eat it increase; then what profit is it to its owners, except to see it with their eyes? ¹² The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, whether he eats little or much; but the abundance of the rich will not allow him to sleep. ¹³ There is a sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for their owners to their hurt. ¹⁴ But those riches perish by evil use. And he brings forth a son, and nothing is in his hand.

²⁶ esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt, for he was looking to the reward.

¹ Come now, rich ones, weep and howl for your hardships coming on. ² Your riches have rotted, and your clothes have become moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver have corroded, and their poison will be a witness against you, and will eat your flesh as fire. You heaped treasure in the last days.

³⁰ The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, and his tongue talks of judgment.

² You are the fairest of the sons of men; grace is poured into Your lips; therefore God has blessed You forever.

¹³ Then I will teach transgressors Your ways; and sinners shall be converted to You. ¹⁴ Deliver me from the guilt of shedding blood, O God, O God of my salvation, and my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness. ¹⁵ O Jehovah, open my lips, and my mouth shall show forth Your praise.

¹⁵ My mouth shall show forth Your righteousness and Your salvation all the day; for I do not know how many they are. ¹⁶ I will go in the strength of the Lord Jehovah; I will speak of Your righteousness, of Yours alone. ¹⁷ O God, You have taught me from my youth; and before now I have declared Your wonderful works. ¹⁸ And now when I am old and gray-headed, O God, do not leave me; until I have declared Your strength to this generation, and Your power to everyone who is to come.

² I will open my mouth in a parable; I will speak dark sayings of old, ³ which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. ⁴ We will not hide them from their sons, showing to the generations to come the praises of Jehovah, and His strength, and His wonderful works that He has done. ⁵ For He set up a testimony in Jacob, and ordered a Law in Israel, which He commanded our fathers, that they should teach them to their sons; ⁶ so that the generation to come might know; sons shall be born, and they shall arise and tell their sons,

¹³ With my lips I have declared all the judgments of Your mouth.

²⁰ The tongue of the just is as choice silver; the heart of the wicked is worth little. ²¹ The lips of the righteous feed many; but fools die for lack of wisdom.

⁹ And more than that, the preacher was wise; he still taught the people knowledge. Yes, he listened, and looked, and set in order many proverbs. ¹⁰ The preacher sought to find out pleasing words; and words of truth written by the upright.

¹¹ Your lips, My spouse, drop like the honeycomb; honey and milk are under your tongue; and the smell of your garments is like the smell of Lebanon.

²⁷ What I tell you in darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear, proclaim on the housetops.

³⁴ Offspring of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

¹⁸ And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, All authority is given to Me in Heaven and in earth. ¹⁹ Therefore go and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, ²⁰ teaching them to observe all things, whatever I commanded you. And, behold, I am with you all the days until the end of the world. Amen.

¹⁵ And He said to them, Go into all the world, proclaim the gospel to all the creation.

⁹ And the Lord spoke to Paul in the night by a vision, Do not be afraid, but speak, and be not silent. ¹⁰ For I am with you, and no one shall set on you to hurt you, for I have many people in this city.

¹⁴ How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? ¹⁸ For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ did not work out by me for the obedience of the nations in word and deed, ¹⁹ in power of miracles and wonders, in power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem, and all around to Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. ²⁰ Yea, so I have been eager to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build on another man's foundation; ²¹ but as it is written, "To whom nothing was said about Him, they shall see. And they who have not heard shall understand."

²⁹ Let not any filthy word go out of your mouth, but if any is good to building up in respect of need, that it may give grace to the ones hearing.

² And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit the same to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. So the tongue is set among our members, spotting all the body and inflaming the course of nature, and being inflamed by hell.

¹⁷ I know also, my God, that You try the heart, and have pleasure in uprightness. I, in the uprightness of my heart, have willingly offered all these things. And now I have seen with joy Your people who are present here to offer willingly to You.

¹ A Prayer of David. Hear the right, O Jehovah; listen to my cry; Give ear to my prayer, for it is not in lips of deceit.

²⁹ Jehovah is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the righteous.

²⁷ The sacrifice of the wicked is hateful to God; how much more when he brings it with a wicked mind?

⁹ He who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is a hateful thing.

¹ Guard your steps when you go to the house of God, and be more ready to hear than to give the sacrifice of fools. For they do not know that they are doing evil.

¹⁴ O My dove, in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, let Me see your face, let Me hear your voice; for your voice is sweet, and your face is beautiful.

¹⁰ Hear the Word of Jehovah, rulers of Sodom; give ear to the Law of our God, people of Gomorrah. ¹¹ To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to Me? says Jehovah; I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs, or of he-goats. ¹² When you come to appear before Me, who has required this at your hand, to trample My courts? ¹³ Bring no more vain sacrifice; incense is an abomination to Me; the new moon and sabbath, the going to meeting; I cannot endure evil and the assembly! ¹⁴ Your new moons and your appointed feasts My soul hates; they are a trouble to Me; I am weary to bear them. ¹⁵ And when you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; yea, when you make many prayers, I will not hear; your hands are full of blood.

⁸ For I Jehovah love judgment, I hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.

³ He who kills an ox is is as if he killed a man; he who sacrifices a lamb is as if he broke a dog's neck; he who offers an offering is as if he offered swine's blood; he who burns incense is as if he blessed an idol. Yea, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations.

²⁰ Why does frankincense come to Me from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? Your burnt offerings are not pleasing, nor your sacrifices sweet to Me.

²¹ So says Jehovah of Hosts, the God of Israel: Put your burnt offerings to your sacrifices, and eat flesh. ²² For I did not speak to your fathers, nor command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices. ²³ But I commanded them this thing, saying, Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people; and walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, so that it may be well with you.

²¹ I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not delight in your solemn assemblies. ²² Though you offer Me burnt offerings and your food offerings, I will not be pleased. Nor will I regard the peace offerings of your fat animals.

²⁴ God is a spirit, and they who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth.

⁶ For Jehovah knows the way of the righteous; but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

⁸ the Lord opens the eyes of the blind; Jehovah raises those who are bowed down; Jehovah loves the righteous; ⁹ Jehovah preserves the strangers; He relieves the orphan and widow, but the way of the wicked He turns upside down.

¹⁹ The way of the wicked is as darkness; they know not at what they stumble.

⁴ A high look, a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.

⁸ The way of a guilty man is perverted; but the pure, his work is right.

²¹ He who follows after righteousness and mercy finds life, righteousness, and honor.

⁷ The way of the just is uprightness; O Upright One, weigh the path of the just.

¹ Listen to me, pursuers of righteousness; seekers of Jehovah: Look to the rock from which you were cut, and to the hole of the pit from which you were dug.

⁷ Listen to me, you who know righteousness, the people in whose heart is My Law; do not fear the reproach of men, nor be afraid of their revilings.

⁴ But I sent to you all My servants the prophets, rising early and sending, saying, Oh, do not do this abominable thing which I hate!

³ Then we shall know, if we follow on to know Jehovah. His going out is prepared as the morning; and He shall come to us as the rain, as the latter and former rain to the earth.

¹³ You are of purer eyes than to behold evil, and can not look upon vexation. Why do You look upon those who deal deceitfully? Will you be silent when the wicked swallows one more righteous than he?

¹³ Go in through the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many there are who go in through it.

¹¹ But you, O man of God, flee these things and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and meekness.

²² But flee youthful lusts, and follow righteousness, faith, love, peace, with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

¹⁷ And it happened when Ahab saw Elijah, Ahab said to him, Are you he that troubles Israel?

²⁰ And Ahab said to Elijah, Have you found me, O my enemy? And he answered, I have found you because you have sold yourself to work evil in the sight of Jehovah.

⁸ And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, There is still one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of Jehovah. But I hate him, for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

³⁰ They would have none of my counsel; they despised all my correction,

¹² and say, How I have hated instruction, and my heart despised correction;

¹⁷ He who keeps instruction is in the way of life; but he who refuses reproof goes astray.

¹ Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge; but he who hates correction is like a brute animal.

³⁵ saying, They struck me; I was not sick; they beat me, but I did not know it. When I awaken, I will add more. I will seek it again.

⁵ Why should you be stricken any more? You will revolt more and more; the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. ⁶ From the sole of the foot even to the head there is no soundness in it; only a wound and a stripe and a fresh blow; they have not been closed, nor bound up, nor soothed with oil.

¹³ In your defilement is wickedness. Because I have purged you and you were not purged, you shall not be purged from your defilement any more, until I have caused My fury to cease on you. ¹⁴ I Jehovah have spoken. It shall come, and I will do it. I will not let go, nor will I spare, nor will I repent. According to your ways, and according to your doings, they shall judge you, says the Lord Jehovah.

²⁰ For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light, lest his deeds should be exposed.

⁷ The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it, that its works are evil.

⁷ But Jehovah said to Samuel, Do not look on his face, nor on his height, because I have refused him. For He does not see as man sees. For man looks on the outward appearance, but Jehovah looks on the heart.

³⁰ then hear from Heaven, Your dwelling-place, and forgive, and give to every man according to all his ways, whose heart You know. For You only know the hearts of the sons of men.

⁶ Hell is naked before Him, and the Pit has no covering.

⁹ O let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, but establish the just. For the righteous God tries the minds and hearts.

²¹ shall not God search this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart.

⁸ If I go up into Heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.

²⁰ Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.

¹⁰ I Jehovah search the heart, I try the reins, even to give to each man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.

²⁴ But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all ²⁵ and did not need that anyone should testify of man. For He knew what was in man.

¹⁷ He said to him the third time, Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me? Peter was grieved because He said to him a third time, Do you love Me? And he said to Him, Lord, You know all things, You know that I love You. Jesus said to him, Feed My sheep.

¹⁸ and the Living One, and I became dead, and behold, I am alive for ever and ever, Amen. And I have the keys of hell and of death.

²³ And I will kill her children with death. And all the churches will know that I am He who searches the reins and hearts, and I will give to every one of you according to your works.

⁷ And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Jehovah. But I hate him, for he never prophesied good to me, but always evil. The same is Micaiah the son of Imla. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

¹⁴ And they say to God, Depart from us; for we do not desire the knowledge of Your ways;

⁷ One rebuking a scorner gets shame to himself; and one rebuking a wicked one gets himself a blemish. ⁸ Do not reprove a scorner, lest he hate you; give to a wise man, and he will love you.

¹⁰ Correction is grievous to him who forsakes the way; he who hates reproof shall die.

¹⁰ They hate him who rebukes in the gate, and they despise him who speaks uprightly.

¹⁸ He who believes on Him is not condemned, but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only-begotten Son of God. ¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than the Light, because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light, lest his deeds should be exposed. ²¹ But he who practices truth comes to the Light so that his works may be revealed, that they exist, having been worked in God.

³ For a time will be when they will not endure sound doctrine, but they will heap up teachers to themselves according to their own lusts, tickling the ear.

² And the king said to me, Why is your face sad, since you are not sick? This is nothing but sorrow of heart. Then I was very much afraid.

²⁵ Heaviness in the heart of man makes it stoop, but a good word makes it glad.

¹⁵ All the days of the afflicted are evil, but gladness of heart is a continual feast.

²² A merry heart does good like a medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones.

¹ Let not your heart be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in Me.

¹² For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity; not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God; we have had our conduct in the world, and more abundantly toward you.

⁷ so that, on the contrary, you should rather forgive and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overwhelming sorrow.

¹⁰ For the grief according to God works repentance to salvation, not to be regretted, but the grief of the world works out death.

⁶ And Solomon said, You have shown to Your servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before You in truth and in righteousness and in uprightness of heart with You. And You have kept this great kindness for him, that You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is today. ⁷ And now, O Jehovah my God, You have made Your servant king instead of David my father. And I am a little child; I do not know to go out or come in! ⁸ And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a numerous people who cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. ⁹ And give to Your servant an understanding heart, to judge Your people, to discern between good and bad. For who is able to judge this, Your great people? ¹⁰ And the word was good in the eyes of Jehovah, that Solomon had asked this thing. ¹¹ And God said to him, Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked for yourself long life, and have not asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to judge justly, ¹² behold, I have done according to your words. Lo, I have given you a wise and an understanding heart, so that there was none like you before you, and after you none shall arise like you.

⁹⁷ MEM: Oh how I love Your Law! It is my meditation all the day.

¹⁰⁰ I understand more than the old men, because I keep Your Commandments.

⁵ the wise hears and increases learning; and understanding ones get wisdom;

⁹ Give to a wise one, and he will be still wiser; teach a just one, and he will increase in learning.

¹⁵ The heart of the prudent gets knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

¹⁰ who say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Do not prophesy to us right things, speak to us smooth things, prophesy falsehood;

²⁰ He feeds on ashes; a deceived heart has turned him aside, so that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

¹ Ephraim feeds on wind and follows after the east wind. He daily multiplies lies and cruelty. And they make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.

¹¹ And these were more noble than those of Thessalonica, in that they received the Word with all readiness of mind and searched the Scriptures daily to see if those things were so.

¹⁸ But grow in grace and in knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

³⁵ And all his sons, and all his daughters, rose up to comfort him. But he refused to be comforted. And he said, For I will go down into the grave to my son mourning. And his father wept for him.

⁹ And Jacob said to Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty years. Few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and I have not attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.

⁷ For we are burned up by Your anger, and by Your wrath we are troubled. ⁸ You have set our iniquities before You, our secret sins in the light of Your face. ⁹ For all our days pass away in Your wrath; we finish our years like a murmur.

¹³ A merry heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken.

²² Understanding is a fountain of life to him who has it, but the instruction of fools is folly.

²⁵ And toward midnight Paul and Silas prayed and praised God in a hymn. And the prisoners listened to them.

² Through Him we also have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice on the hope of the glory of God. ³ And not only this, but we glory in afflictions also, knowing that afflictions work out patience,

¹¹ And not only so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the reconciliation.

¹² rejoicing in hope, patient in affliction, steadfastly continuing in prayer,

⁵ For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds by Christ.

¹⁰ as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing all things.

⁶ in which you greatly rejoice, yet a little while, if need be, grieving in manifold temptations; ⁷ so that the trial of your faith (being much more precious than that of gold that perishes, but being proven through fire) might be found to praise and honor and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, ⁸ whom having not seen, you love; in whom not yet seeing, but believing in Him you exult with unspeakable joy, and having been glorified,

¹³ but rejoice according as you are partakers of Christ's suffering, so that when His glory shall be revealed, you may be glad also with exceeding joy.

⁶ Better is the poor who walks in his uprightness than he who is perverse in his ways, though he is rich.

¹⁰ And whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them; I did not withhold my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labor, and this was my part of all my labor. ¹¹ Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done, and on the labor that I had labored to do; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit; and there is no profit under the sun.

¹⁸ Yes, I hated all my labor which I had done under the sun; that I must leave it to the man who shall be after me. ¹⁹ And who knows whether he shall be wise or a fool? Yet he shall have rule over all my labor in which I have labored, and acted wisely under the sun. This is also vanity. ²⁰ And I turned to cause my heart to despair over all the labor which I did under the sun. ²¹ When there is a man whose labor is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and with success; yet to a man who has not labored in it, he shall leave it for his share. This also is vanity and a great evil. ²² For what has man from all his labor, and from the troubling of his heart, in which he has labored under the sun? ²³ For all his days are sorrows, and his labor sadness; yea, his heart does not take rest in the night. This is also vanity.

¹⁰ He who loves silver shall not be satisfied with silver, and he who loves abundance not with gain. This is also vanity. ¹¹ When the good thing increases, those who eat it increase; then what profit is it to its owners, except to see it with their eyes? ¹² The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, whether he eats little or much; but the abundance of the rich will not allow him to sleep.

⁶ But godliness with contentment is great gain.

¹ A Song of degrees; of David. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity! ² It is like the precious ointment on the head that ran down on the beard, Aaron's beard, that went down to the mouth of his garments; ³ like the dew of Hermon that came down on the mountains of Zion; for there Jehovah commanded the blessing, life forevermore.

¹ Better is a dry piece of bread, and quietness with it, than a house full of sacrifices with fighting.

¹⁹ It is better to dwell in the wilderness than with a quarrelsome and angry woman.

⁴ Again he sent out other servants, saying, Tell those who are invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatlings are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the marriage.

²³ And bring the fattened calf here and kill it. And let us eat and be merry,

¹ If there is therefore any encouragement in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any tendernesses and mercies,

¹⁶ And we have known and believed the love that God has in us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

⁸ And Abram said to Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray you, between me and you, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are men, brothers. ⁹ Is not the whole land before you? I pray you, separate yourself from me. If you go to the left, then I will go to the right. Or if you go to the right, then I will go to the left.

²⁴ And she fell at his feet and said, On me, my lord, on me let this iniquity be. And please let your handmaid speak in your ears, and hear the words of your handmaid. ²⁵ Please do not let my lord regard this man of worthlessness, Nabal. For as his name is, so he is. Nabal is his name, and foolishness is with him. And I, your handmaid, did not see the young men of my lord, whom you sent. ²⁶ And now, my lord, as Jehovah lives and as your soul lives, since Jehovah has withheld you from coming to shed blood, and from avenging yourself with your own hand, now let your enemies, and those that seek to do evil to my lord, be as Nabal. ²⁷ And now this blessing which your handmaid has brought to my lord, let it even be given to the young men who follow my lord. ²⁸ Please forgive the trespass of your handmaid. For Jehovah will certainly make a sure house for my lord, because my lord fights the battles of Jehovah, and evil has not been found in you all your days. ²⁹ Yet a man has risen to pursue you and to seek your soul. But the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with Jehovah your God. And the souls of your enemies, He shall sling them from the hollow of a sling. ³⁰ And it shall be, when Jehovah has done to my lord according to all the good that He has spoken concerning you, and commanded you to be ruler over Israel, ³¹ this shall be no stumbling to you, nor offense of heart to my lord, either that you have shed blood for nothing, or that my lord has delivered himself. And may Jehovah deal well with my lord, and you remember your handmaid. ³² And David said to Abigail, Blessed be Jehovah, the God of Israel, who sent you today to meet me. ³³ And blessed is your advice, and blessed are you who have kept me from coming to shed blood today, and from delivering myself with my own hand. ³⁴ And truly, as Jehovah, the God of Israel lives, who has kept me back from doing evil to you, for unless you had hurried and come to meet me, surely there would not have been left to Nabal by the morning light one who urinates against the wall. ³⁵ And David received from her hand that which she had brought him, and said to her, Go up in peace to your house. See, I have listened to your voice and have accepted your person. ³⁶ And Abigail came to Nabal. And behold, he held a feast in his house like the feast of a king. And Nabal's heart was merry within him, for he was very drunk. And she did not tell him anything, more or less, until the morning light. ³⁷ And it happened in the morning, when the wine had gone out of Nabal and his wife had told him these things, his heart died within him and he became like a stone. ³⁸ And it happened about ten days afterward Jehovah struck Nabal so that he died. ³⁹ And David heard that Nabal had died, and he said, Blessed is Jehovah who has pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and has kept His servant from evil. For Jehovah has returned the wickedness of Nabal on his own head. And David sent and spoke with Abigail, to take her to him for a wife. ⁴⁰ And David's servants came to Abigail at Carmel, and spoke to her, saying, David sent us to you to take you to him for a wife. ⁴¹ And she arose and bowed herself on her face to the earth, and said, Behold, let your handmaid be a servant to wash the feet of the servants of my lord. ⁴² And Abigail hurried and arose, and rode on an ass, with five of her maidens who went after her. And she followed the messengers of David and became his wife. ⁴³ David also took Ahinoam of Jezreel. And they became, both of them, his wives. ⁴⁴ And Saul gave his daughter Michal, David's wife, to Phalti the son of Laish, who was of Gallim.

⁴³ And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we also have more right in David than you. Why then did you despise us, so that our advice should not be sought first in bringing back our king? And the words of the men of Judah were more fierce than the words of the men of Israel.

²⁹ He who is slow to wrath is of great understanding, but he who is hasty of spirit exalts folly.

¹ A soft answer turns away wrath, but grievous words stir up anger.

²⁸ A perverse man causes fighting, and a whisperer separates chief friends.

²¹ As coals to burning coals, and wood to fire, so is a quarrelsome man to kindle fighting.

⁴ If the spirit of the ruler rises up against you, do not leave your place; for yielding quiets great sinners.

⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers! For they shall be called the sons of God.

¹ And in those days, the disciples having multiplied, a murmuring of the Hellenists against the Hebrews occurred, because their widows were overlooked in the daily serving. ² And the Twelve called near the multitude of the disciples and said, It is not pleasing to us, leaving the Word of God, to serve tables. ³ Therefore, brothers, look out among you seven men being witnessed to, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this duty. ⁴ But we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the Word. ⁵ And the saying pleased all the multitude. And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicholas, a proselyte of Antioch.

¹⁹ Therefore, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath. ²⁰ For the wrath of man does not work out the righteousness of God.

¹⁴ But if you have bitter jealousy and strife in your hearts, do not glory and lie against the truth. ¹⁵ This is not the wisdom coming down from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. ¹⁶ For where envying and strife are, there is confusion and every foul deed.

¹ And all the congregation lifted up their voice and cried. And the people wept that night. ² And all the sons of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron. And the whole congregation said to them, Oh that we had died in the land of Egypt! Or, Oh that we had died in the wilderness! ³ And why has Jehovah brought us into this land to fall by the sword, so that our wives and our sons should be a prey? Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?

⁷ And they spoke to all the company of the sons of Israel saying, The land which we passed through to search is an exceedingly good land. ⁸ If Jehovah delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land which flows with milk and honey. ⁹ Only do not rebel against Jehovah, neither fear the people of the land. For they are bread for us. Their protection has moved from them, and Jehovah is with us. Do not fear them.

⁸ Lead me, O Jehovah, in Your righteousness, because of my enemies; make Your way straight before my face.

⁸ Good and upright is Jehovah; therefore He will teach sinners in the way. ⁹ The meek He will guide in judgment; and the meek He will teach His way.

¹² What man is he who fears Jehovah? He shall teach him in the way that he shall choose.

¹¹ Teach me Your way, O Jehovah, and lead me in a plain path, because of my enemies.

⁶ In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

⁹ They are all plain to him who understands, and right to those who find knowledge.

⁵ Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse; he who keeps his soul shall be far from them.

¹³ The lazy one says, There is a lion outside; I shall be killed in the streets.

¹³ The lazy one says, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.

²¹ And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, This is the way, walk in it, when you turn to the right hand and when you turn to the left.

⁸ And a highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called, The Way of Holiness. The unclean shall not pass over it. But He shall be with them; the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err in it.

¹⁴ And He shall say, Raise up! Raise up! Clear the way! Make the stumbling-block rise out of the way of My people.

¹² Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long upon the land which Jehovah your God gives you.

³ You shall each man revere his mother and his father, and keep My sabbaths. I am Jehovah your God.

⁴⁸ And also the king said, Blessed is Jehovah, the God of Israel, who has given one to sit on my throne today, my eyes even seeing it.

⁹ And now, do not hold him guiltless. For you are a wise man, and you know what you ought to do to him. But bring his gray head down to the grave with blood.

⁷ And it happened when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, he rejoiced greatly and said, Blessed be Jehovah this day, who has given David a wise son over this great people.

¹⁵ My son, if your heart is wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine. ¹⁶ Yea, my heart shall rejoice when your lips speak right things.

²² Listen to your father who sired you, and do not despise your mother when she is old.

³ Whoever loves wisdom rejoices his father; but a companion of harlots wastes wealth.

¹⁷ The eye that mocks at his father and despises to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

²² But you know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he has served with me in the gospel.

²⁸ And to man He said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom! And to depart from evil is understanding!

¹⁰ The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom; all practicing them have good understanding; His praise stands forever.

²³ To work out evil devices is as laughter to a fool; so wisdom is to a man of understanding.

¹² One despising his friend lacks heart, but a man of understanding remains silent.

⁹ Fools laugh at sin, but among the righteous there is favor.

¹⁶ A wise one fears and departs from evil, but the fool rages and is sure.

¹⁸ or like a madman who throws firebrands, arrows, and death. ¹⁹ so is the man who deceives his neighbor and says, Am I not joking?

¹⁵ See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

¹³ Who is wise and knowing among you? Let him show his works by his good conduct with meekness of wisdom.

¹⁴ Where there is no wisdom, the people fall; but in the multitude of wise men there is safety.

¹⁸ Purposes are established by counsel; and with good advice make war.

⁶ Because to every purpose there is time and judgment, therefore the misery of man is great on him.

¹⁴ A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth, and the reward of a man's hands shall be given to him.

¹³ Righteous lips are the delight of kings, and they love him who speaks right.

²⁶ He shall kiss the lips that return right words.

¹ To every thing there is a season, and a time for every purpose under the heavens:

¹¹ You will make Me know the way of life; in Your presence is fullness of joys. At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

²⁴ and see if any wicked way is in me; and lead me in the way everlasting.

¹⁸ For her house bows down to death, and her paths to the dead.

⁵ Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell,

²⁷ Her house is the way to hell, going down to the rooms of death.

⁸ Do not reprove a scorner, lest he hate you; give to a wise man, and he will love you.

¹⁴ You shall beat him with the rod, and shall deliver his soul from hell.

⁸ And to this people you shall say, So says Jehovah, Behold, I set before you the way of life and the way of death.

¹⁴ Because narrow is the gate and constricted is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

⁶ Jesus said to him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father but by Me.

²⁰ For our citizenship is in Heaven, from which also we are looking for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,

¹ If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God. ² Be mindful of things above, not on things on the earth.

¹⁷ For Jehovah your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, the mighty, and a terrible God, who does not respect persons nor take a bribe. ¹⁸ He executes justice for the fatherless and widow, and loves the stranger in giving him food and clothing.

¹⁴ You may not remove your neighbor's landmark, which those in the past have set in your inheritance, which you shall inherit in the land which Jehovah your God gives you to possess it.

¹¹ Pour forth the rage of your wrath; and behold everyone who is proud, and abase him. ¹² Look on everyone who is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place. ¹³ Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in darkness.

¹ To the Chief Musician. A contemplation. A Psalm of David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said to him, David has come to the house of Ahimelech. Why do you boast yourself in evil, O mighty man? The mercy of God endures forever.

⁵ God will likewise destroy you forever; He shall take you away, and pluck you out of your tent, and root you out of the land of the living. Selah.

⁵ In His holy dwelling God is the father of the fatherless, and the judge of the widows. ⁶ God causes the lonely to live at home; He brings out those who are bound with chains; but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.

⁶ Though Jehovah is high, yet He has respect to the lowly; but the proud He knows afar off.

⁹ Jehovah preserves the strangers; He relieves the orphan and widow, but the way of the wicked He turns upside down.

⁷ The wicked are overthrown, and are gone; but the house of the righteous shall stand.

¹¹ The house of the wicked shall be overthrown, but the tent of the upright shall be blessed.

¹⁰ Do not remove the old landmarks, and do not enter into the fields of the fatherless;

¹² For the day of Jehovah of Hosts shall be on every proud and lofty one, and on every lifted up one; and he shall be brought low,

²⁰ But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was put down from the throne of his kingdom, and they took his glory from him.

²⁷ Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit orphans and widows in their afflictions, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

⁵ Likewise, younger ones, be subject to older ones, and all being subject to one another. Put on humility. For God resists proud ones, but He gives grace to the humble.

¹⁴ Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O Jehovah, my Rock and my Redeemer.

³⁰ The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, and his tongue talks of judgment. ³¹ The Law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.

¹⁶ These six Jehovah hates; yea, seven are hateful to his soul: ¹⁷ a proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, ¹⁸ a heart that plots wicked plans, feet hurrying to run to evil, ¹⁹ a false witness who speaks lies, and he who causes fighting among brothers.

⁹ The thought of foolishness is sin; and the scorner is hateful to men.

¹⁴ O Jerusalem, cleanse your heart from evil so that you may be saved. How long shall your vain thoughts lodge within you?

³⁴ Offspring of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. ³⁵ A good man out of the good treasure of the heart brings out good things; and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings out evil things. ³⁶ But I say to you that every idle word, whatever men may speak, they shall give account of it in the day of judgment. ³⁷ For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned.

¹⁹ For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies;

²¹ And you shall look out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating unjust gain. And place such over them to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.

⁸ And you shall take no bribe, for the bribe blinds the wise and perverts the words of the righteous.

²⁶ And you shall not bring an abomination into your house, lest you be a cursed thing like it. You shall utterly hate it, and you shall utterly despise it. For it is a cursed thing.

¹⁹ You shall not pervert judgment; you shall not respect persons, nor take a gift. For a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and perverts the words of the righteous.

¹⁸ And you surely shall keep clear of the cursed thing, lest you make yourselves cursed when you take of the cursed things, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.

¹¹ Israel has sinned, and they have also broken My covenant which I commanded them, and have even taken of the cursed things, and have also stolen and pretended falsely. And they have even put it among their own stuff. ¹² And the sons of Israel could not stand before their enemies. They will turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become cursed. I will not be with you again, unless you destroy the one who is cursed from among you.

²⁴ And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had. And they brought them to the valley of Achor. ²⁵ And Joshua said, Why have you troubled us? Jehovah shall trouble you this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones.

³ And his sons did not walk in his ways, but turned aside after ill gain and took bribes and perverted judgment. ⁴ And all the elders of Israel gathered themselves and came to Samuel to Ramah. ⁵ And they said to him, Behold, you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.

²⁷ And the leprosy of Naaman shall cling to you and to your seed forever. And he went out from his presence as leprous as snow.

¹⁹ So are the ways of everyone who gains unjust gain; it takes away its owners' life.

¹⁹ So righteousness tends to life; but one pursuing evil, it is to his own death.

²⁹ He who troubles his own house shall inherit the wind; and the fool shall be servant to the wise in heart.

²¹ An inheritance gotten hastily in the beginning, even the end of it shall not be blessed.

¹⁶ A ruler lacking understanding even adds oppressions; he who hates unjust gain shall prolong his days.

⁴ The king establishes the land by judgment; but he taking bribes tears it down.

⁸ Woe to those who join house to house, laying field to field, until the end of space, and you are made to dwell alone in the middle of the land! ⁹ Jehovah of Hosts swore in my ears, Truly many houses shall be deserted, big and fair, without inhabitant. ¹⁰ Yea, ten acres of vineyard shall yield one bath, and the seed of a homer shall yield an ephah.

¹⁵ He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly; he who despises the gain of oppressions, who shakes his hands free from holding bribes, who stops his ear from hearing of blood, and shuts his eyes from seeing evil; ¹⁶ He shall dwell on high; his refuge shall be the strongholds of rocks; bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.

¹¹ The quail sits on eggs and does not hatch them; in the same way he who gets riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the middle of his days, and in his end he shall be a fool.

⁹ Woe to him who robs evil booty for his house, to set his nest on high, to be delivered from the hand of evil! ¹⁰ You have planned shame to your house, to make an end of many people, and are sinning in your soul. ¹¹ For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.

³ And he said to me, This is the curse that goes forth over the face of the whole earth; for from now on everyone who steals shall be cut off according to it; and everyone who swears from now on shall be cut off according to it. ⁴ I will bring it forth, says Jehovah of Hosts; and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him who swears falsely by My name. And it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall devour it, and its timber and its stones.

²³ And the king said, The one says, This is my son who lives, and your son is the dead. And the other says, No, but your son is the dead, and my son is the living. ²⁴ And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king. ²⁵ And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one and half to the other. ²⁶ And the woman whose son was the living child said to the king, for her womb yearned over her son. And she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no way kill it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor yours; divide it! ²⁷ And the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no way kill it. She is the mother of it. ²⁸ And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged. And they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to do judgment.

¹⁹ In the multitude of words, sin is not lacking; but he who holds back his lips is wise.

² The tongue of the wise uses knowledge rightly, but the mouth of fools pours out foolishness.

¹¹ A fool speaks all his mind; but a wise one keeps it in until afterwards.

²⁰ Do you see a man hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

² Do not be rash with your mouth, and do not let your heart be hasty to say a word before God. For God is in Heaven, and you are on earth; therefore let your words be few.

⁶ Do not allow your mouth to cause your flesh to sin; do not say before the angel that it was an error. Why should God be angry at your voice and destroy the work of your hands?

¹² The words of a wise mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow him. ¹³ The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness; and the end of his talk is wicked madness. ¹⁴ A fool also makes many words; a man knows not what they shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him?

¹⁰ For there are indeed many unruly men, vain talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, ¹¹ whose mouth you must stop, who subvert whole houses, teaching things not right for the sake of ill gain.

⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. So the tongue is set among our members, spotting all the body and inflaming the course of nature, and being inflamed by hell. ⁷ For every kind of animals, and of birds, and of reptiles, and of sea-animals, is tamed, and has been tamed by mankind. ⁸ But no one can tame the tongue, it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

¹⁵ but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and be ready always to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason of the hope in you, with meekness and fear;

¹⁸ For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they lure through the lusts of the flesh, by unbridled lust, the ones who were escaping from those who live in error;

¹ Why do You stand afar off, O Jehovah? Will You hide in times of trouble?

⁴¹ They cried, but there was none to save; even to Jehovah, but He did not answer them.

¹⁵ The eyes of Jehovah are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry. ¹⁶ The face of Jehovah is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth. ¹⁷ The righteous cry, and Jehovah hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.

¹⁸ If I regard iniquity in my heart, Jehovah will not hear; ¹⁹ Surely God has heard; He has attended to the voice of my prayer.

²⁷ For lo, those who are far from You shall perish; You have destroyed all who go lusting away from You.

¹⁸ Jehovah is near all those who call on Him, all those who call on Him in truth. ¹⁹ He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry, and will save them.

⁸ The sacrifice of the wicked is a hateful thing to Jehovah, but the prayer of the upright is His delight.

⁸ For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor your ways My ways, says Jehovah. ⁹ For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.

⁴⁶ And these shall go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into everlasting life.

³¹ But we know that God does not hear sinners, but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears him.

²⁶ Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. ²⁷ And He searching the hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

¹² and that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world. ¹³ But now in Christ Jesus you who were once afar off are made near by the blood of Christ.

¹⁶ Confess faults to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous one avails much. ¹⁷ Elijah was a man of like passion as we are. And he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for the time of three years and six months. ¹⁸ And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth caused its fruit to sprout.

¹² For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears open to their prayers. But the Lord's face is against those who do evil.

⁸ And now for a little time grace has been shown from Jehovah our God, to leave us a remnant to escape and to give us a nail in His holy place, so that our God may enlighten our eyes and give us a little life in our bondage.

¹⁵ Blessed is the people that knows the joyful sound; they shall walk, O Jehovah, in the light of Your face.

⁸ Healing shall be to your navel and marrow to your bones.

⁹ The light of the righteous rejoices, but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

²⁵ Like cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

⁷ Also the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun;

¹¹ And Jehovah shall always guide you and satisfy your soul in dry places, and make your bones fat; and you shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water whose waters fail not.

¹⁰ And the angel said to them, Do not fear. For behold, I give to you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. ¹¹ For to you is born today, in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. ¹² And this is a sign to you. You will find the babe wrapped, lying in a manger. ¹³ And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying, ¹⁴ Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. ¹⁵ And it happened as the angels departed from them into Heaven, the shepherds said to one another, Indeed, let us go to Bethlehem and see this thing which has happened, which the Lord made known to us. ¹⁶ And hurrying they came and sought out both Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in the manger. ¹⁷ And seeing, they publicly told about the word spoken to them concerning this Child. ¹⁸ And all those who heard marveled about the things spoken to them by the shepherds. ¹⁹ But Mary kept all these sayings, meditating in her heart.

²³ And the city had no need of the sun, nor of the moon, that they might shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it, and its lamp is the Lamb.

⁵ And there will be no night there. And they need no lamp, or light of the sun; for the Lord God gives them light. And they will reign forever and ever.

⁸ Do not reprove a scorner, lest he hate you; give to a wise man, and he will love you. ⁹ Give to a wise one, and he will be still wiser; teach a just one, and he will increase in learning.

²⁰ He who walks with the wise shall be wise, but a companion with fools shall be destroyed.

⁵ A fool despises his father's instruction, but he who listens to correction is wise.

³ Bow down your ear, and come to Me; hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

³ Now you are clean through the Word which I have spoken to you. ⁴ Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.

¹⁹ They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they were of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out so that it might be revealed that they were not all of us.

¹⁸ If a man has a son who is stubborn and rebels, who will not obey his father's voice or his mother's voice, even when they have chastened him he will not listen to them,

²⁰ And they shall say to the elders of his city, this son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey our voice. He is a glutton and a drunkard.

¹⁷ Yea, you hate to be taught, and you toss My Words behind you.

⁷ The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of knowledge; but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

²⁴ Because I called, and you refused; I stretched out my hand, and no one paid attention; ²⁵ but you have despised all my advice, and would have none of my warning. ²⁶ I also will laugh at your trouble; I will mock when your fear comes; ²⁷ when your fear comes as a wasting away, and your ruin comes like a tempest when trouble and pain come upon you. ²⁸ Then they shall call upon me, and I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me; ²⁹ instead they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of Jehovah. ³⁰ They would have none of my counsel; they despised all my correction, ³¹ and they shall eat the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own desires. ³² For the turning away of the simple kills them, and the ease of fools destroys them. ³³ But whoever listens to me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

¹¹ and you moan when your end comes, when your flesh and muscle are eaten away, ¹² and say, How I have hated instruction, and my heart despised correction; ¹³ and I have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor bowed down my ears to those who taught me!

³³ Hear instruction, and be wise, and do not refuse it. ³⁴ Blessed is the man who hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. ³⁵ For whoever finds me finds life, and shall obtain favor from Jehovah. ³⁶ But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul; all who hate me love death.

¹⁴ The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.

²¹ Folly is joy to him who is without any wisdom, but a man of understanding walks uprightly.

¹⁶ Why is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, since he has no heart for it?

¹ A man who hardens his neck when reproved shall be suddenly broken, and there will be no healing.

⁵ Why should you be stricken any more? You will revolt more and more; the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

³ O Jehovah, are not Your eyes on the truth? You have stricken them, but they have not grieved; You have destroyed them, but they have refused to receive correction; they have made their faces harder than rock; they have refused to return.

²⁴ Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on a rock. ²⁵ And the rain came down, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house. And it did not fall, for it was founded on a rock. ²⁶ And everyone who hears these sayings of Mine and does not do them shall be compared to a foolish man who built his house on the sand. ²⁷ And the rain came down, and the floods came, and the wind blew and beat on that house. And it fell, and great was its fall.

¹⁵ looking diligently lest any fail of the grace of God, or lest any root of bitterness springing up disturb you, and by it many are defiled,

²² But become doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten; therefore be zealous and repent.

¹¹ Come, listen to me, my sons; I will teach you the fear of Jehovah.

¹³ The fear of Jehovah is to hate evil; I hate pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the wicked mouth.

¹² Before shattering, the heart of man is proud, and before honor is humility.

⁶ Do not put yourself forth in the presence of the king, and do not stand in the place of the great; ⁷ for it is better that it should be said to you, Come up here, than that you should be put lower in the presence of a noble whom your eyes have seen.

²³ A man's pride shall bring him low; but honor shall uphold the humble in spirit.

¹¹ For whoever exalts himself shall be abased, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted.

⁵ For let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, ⁶ who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God, ⁷ but made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Himself the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. ⁸ And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. ⁹ Therefore God has highly exalted Him, and has given Him a name which is above every name, ¹⁰ that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of heavenly ones, and of earthly ones, and of ones under the earth; ¹¹ and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

¹⁰ Be humbled before the Lord, and He will lift you up.
