³⁴ Righteousness lifts up a nation, but sin is a shame to any people.

⁶ And you shall keep and do them, for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people. ⁷ For who is a great nation whose God is coming near to them, as Jehovah our God is, in all our calling on Him? ⁸ And who is a great nation whose statutes and judgments are so righteous as all this Law which I set before you today?

¹ And it will be, if you shall listen carefully to the voice of Jehovah your God, to observe and to do all His commandments which I command you today, Jehovah your God will set you on high above all nations of the earth. ² And all these blessings shall come on you and overtake you, if you will listen to the voice of Jehovah your God. ³ You shall be blessed in the city, and be blessed in the field. ⁴ The fruit of your body shall be blessed, and the fruit of your ground, and the fruit of your cattle, the increase of your cows, and the flocks of your sheep. ⁵ Your basket and your store shall be blessed. ⁶ You shall be blessed when you come in, and blessed when you go out. ⁷ Jehovah shall cause your enemies that rise up against you to be stricken before your face. They shall come out against you one way, and flee before you seven ways. ⁸ Jehovah shall command the blessing on you in your storehouses, and all that you set your hand to. And He shall bless you in the land which Jehovah your God gives you. ⁹ Jehovah shall establish you a holy people to Himself, as He has sworn to you, if you shall keep the commandments of Jehovah your God and walk in His ways. ¹⁰ And all the peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of Jehovah, and they shall be afraid of you. ¹¹ And Jehovah shall prosper you in goods, in the fruit of your body, and in the fruit of your cattle, and in the fruit of your ground, in the land which Jehovah swore to your fathers to give you. ¹² Jehovah shall open to you His good treasure, the heaven to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. And you shall loan to many nations, and you shall not borrow. ¹³ And Jehovah shall make you the head, and not the tail. And you shall be always above, and you shall not be beneath, if you listen to the commandments of Jehovah your God, which I command you today, to observe and to do them. ¹⁴ And you shall not go aside from any of the words which I command you today, to the right hand or the left, to go after other gods to serve them. ¹⁵ And it shall be, if you will not listen to the voice of Jehovah your God, to observe and to do all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today, all these curses shall come on you and overtake you. ¹⁶ You shall be cursed in the city, and cursed in the field. ¹⁷ Your basket and your store shall be cursed. ¹⁸ The fruit of your body shall be cursed, and the fruit of your land, the increase of your cows, and the flocks of your sheep. ¹⁹ You shall be cursed when you come in, and cursed when you go out. ²⁰ Jehovah shall send on you cursing, vexation, and rebuke, in all that you set your hand to do, until you are destroyed, and until you perish quickly, because of the wickedness of your doings by which you have forsaken Me. ²¹ Jehovah shall make the plague cling to you until He has consumed you from off the land where you go to possess it. ²² Jehovah shall strike you with lung disease and with a fever, and with an inflammation, and with an extreme burning, and with the sword, and with blasting, and with mildew. And they shall pursue you until you perish. ²³ And your heavens over your head shall be bronze, and the earth that is under you iron. ²⁴ Jehovah shall make the rain of your land powder and dust. It shall come down from the heavens on you until you are destroyed. ²⁵ Jehovah shall cause you to be stricken before your enemies. You shall go out one way against them, and flee seven ways before them. And you shall be a trembling to all the kingdoms of the earth. ²⁶ And your body shall be food to all birds of the air, and to the beasts of the earth. And no man shall frighten them away. ²⁷ Jehovah will strike you with the boils of Egypt, and with the hemorrhoids, and with the scab, and with the itch, of which you cannot be healed. ²⁸ Jehovah shall strike you with madness and blindness, and astonishment of heart. ²⁹ And you shall grope at noonday, as the blind gropes in darkness, and you shall not prosper in your ways. And you shall always be pressed down and spoiled forever, and no man shall save you. ³⁰ You shall become engaged to a wife, and another man shall lie with her. You shall build a house, and you shall not live in it. You shall plant a vineyard, and you shall not gather the grapes of it. ³¹ Your ox shall be slain before your eyes, and you shall not eat of it. Your ass shall be violently taken away from before your face, and shall not be restored to you, your sheep given to your enemies, and you shall have none to rescue them. ³² Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another people, and your eyes shall look and fail for them all the day long. And there shall be no power in your hand. ³³ The fruit of your land, and all your labors, shall be eaten up by a nation which you do not know. And you shall always be oppressed and crushed, ³⁴ and you shall be mad because of that which you shall see with the sight of your eyes. ³⁵ Jehovah shall strike you in the knees and in the legs with an evil ulcer that cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot to the top of your head. ³⁶ Jehovah shall bring you, and your king which you shall set over you, to a nation which neither you nor your fathers have known. And there you shall serve other gods, wood and stone. ³⁷ And you shall become an astonishment, a proverb, and a by-word among all nations where Jehovah shall lead you. ³⁸ You shall carry much seed out into the field, and shall gather little in, for the locust shall eat it. ³⁹ You shall plant vineyards and dress them, but shall neither drink the wine nor gather, for the worm shall eat them. ⁴⁰ You shall have olive trees throughout all your coasts, but you shall not anoint with the oil, for your olive shall drop off its fruit. ⁴¹ You shall father sons and daughters, but you shall not enjoy them, for they shall go into captivity. ⁴² All your trees and the fruit of your land the locust shall possess. ⁴³ The stranger within you shall get up above you very high, and you shall come down very low. ⁴⁴ He shall loan to you, and you shall not loan to him. He shall be the head, and you shall be the tail. ⁴⁵ And all these curses shall come on you, and shall pursue you and overtake you, until you are destroyed, because you did not listen to the voice of Jehovah your God, to keep His commandments and His statutes which He commanded you. ⁴⁶ And they shall be on you for a sign and for a wonder, and on your seed forever. ⁴⁷ Because you did not serve Jehovah your God with joyfulness and with gladness of heart for the abundance of all things; ⁴⁸ therefore you shall serve your enemies which Jehovah shall send against you, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in the lack of all things. And he shall put a yoke of iron on your neck until he has destroyed you. ⁴⁹ Jehovah shall bring a nation against you from far, from the end of the earth, as the eagle flies; a nation whose tongue you shall not understand, ⁵⁰ a nation fierce of face who shall not regard the person of the old, nor show favor to the young. ⁵¹ And he shall eat the fruit of your cattle and the fruit of your land, until you are destroyed. He shall not leave you grain, wine, or oil, the increase of your livestock, or flocks of your sheep, until he has destroyed you. ⁵² And he shall besiege you in all your gates until your high and fortified walls in which you trusted come down, throughout all the land. And he shall besiege you in all your gates throughout all your land which Jehovah your God has given you. ⁵³ And you shall eat the fruit of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters, which Jehovah your God has given you, in the siege and in the anguish with which your enemies shall distress you. ⁵⁴ The man that is tender among you, and very delicate, his eye shall be evil toward his brother and toward the wife of his bosom, and toward the rest of his sons which he has left; ⁵⁵ so that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his sons whom he shall eat, because he has nothing left to him in the siege and in the anguish with which your enemies shall distress you in all your gates. ⁵⁶ The tender and delicate woman among you, who would not have ventured to set the sole of her foot on the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom, and toward her son, and toward her daughter, ⁵⁷ and toward her young one who comes out from between her feet, and toward her sons whom she shall bear. For she shall eat them secretly for lack of all things, in the siege and anguish with which your enemies shall distress you in your gates. ⁵⁸ If you will not observe to do all the words of this Law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and fearful name, JEHOVAH YOUR GOD, ⁵⁹ then Jehovah will make your plagues remarkable, and the plagues of your seed great and persistent plagues; with evil and long-lasting sicknesses. ⁶⁰ Also, He will bring on you all the diseases of Egypt of which you were afraid. And they shall cling to you. ⁶¹ Also, every sickness and every plague which is not written in the book of this Law, Jehovah will bring them on you until you are destroyed. ⁶² And you shall be left few in number, whereas you were as the stars of the heavens for multitude, because you would not obey the voice of Jehovah your God. ⁶³ And it shall be, as Jehovah rejoiced over you to do you good and to multiply you, so Jehovah will rejoice over you to destroy you and to bring you to nothing. And you shall be plucked from off the land where you go to possess it. ⁶⁴ And Jehovah shall scatter you among all people, from the one end of the earth even to the other, and you shall serve other gods there, which neither you nor your fathers have known, wood and stone. ⁶⁵ And among these nations you shall find no ease, neither shall the sole of your foot have rest. But Jehovah shall give you there a trembling heart and failing of eyes and sorrow of mind. ⁶⁶ And your life shall hang in doubt before you, and you shall fear day and night, and shall have no assurance of your life. ⁶⁷ In the morning you shall say, Oh that it were evening! And at evening you shall say, Oh that it were morning, for the fear of your heart with which you shall fear, and for the sight of your eyes which you shall see. ⁶⁸ And Jehovah shall bring you into Egypt again with ships, by the way of which I said to you, You shall see it no more again. And there you shall be sold to your enemies for men-slaves and women-slaves, and no man shall buy you.

¹⁸ lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turns away today from Jehovah our God, to go serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that bears gall and wormwood, ¹⁹ and it happens when he hears the words of this curse, that he shall bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart, to snatch away the drunken with the thirsty. ²⁰ Jehovah will not be willing to forgive him, but then the anger of Jehovah and His jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie on him, and Jehovah shall blot out his name from under heavens. ²¹ And Jehovah shall set him apart to evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in this book of the Law; ²² so that the generation to come of your sons that shall rise up after you, and the stranger that shall come from a far land, shall say (when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which Jehovah has laid on it) ²³ the whole land shall be burned with brimstone, and salt; it shall not be sown; nor shall it sprout; nor shall there be any grass in it. It shall be like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which Jehovah overthrew in His anger, and in His wrath, ²⁴ even all nations shall say, Why has Jehovah done this to this land? For what is the heat of this great anger? ²⁵ Then men shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of Jehovah, the God of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them forth out of the land of Egypt. ²⁶ For they went and served other gods, and worshiped them, gods whom they did not know, and who had not given to them any portion. ²⁷ And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against this land, to bring on it all the curses that are written in this book. ²⁸ And Jehovah rooted them out of their land in anger and wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is today.

⁶ And when Joshua had let the people go, the sons of Israel left, each man to his inheritance, to possess the land. ⁷ And the people served Jehovah all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of Jehovah that He did for Israel. ⁸ And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Jehovah, died, being a hundred and ten years old. ⁹ And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-heres, in mount Ephraim, on the north side of the hill Gaash. ¹⁰ And also all that generation were gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them who did not know Jehovah, nor even the works which He had done for Israel. ¹¹ And the sons of Israel did evil in the sight of Jehovah, and served Baals. ¹² And they forsook Jehovah, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt. And they followed other gods of the gods of the people who were around them, and bowed themselves to them, and provoked Jehovah to anger. ¹³ And they forsook Jehovah and served Baal and Ashtaroth. ¹⁴ And the anger of Jehovah was hot against Israel, and He delivered them into the hand of spoilers who spoiled them. And He sold them into the hand of their enemies all around, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.

³⁴ a fruitful land to a salty desert, because of the wickedness of those who dwell in it.

² Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, So says Jehovah, I remember you, the kindness of your youth, the love of your betrothals, when you went after Me in the wilderness, in a land not sown. ³ Israel was holiness to Jehovah, and the firstfruits of His increase. All that devour him shall offend; evil shall come on them, says Jehovah. ⁴ Hear the Word of Jehovah, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel. ⁵ So says Jehovah, What injustice have your fathers found in Me, that they have gone far from Me and have walked after vanity, and have become vain? ⁶ Nor did they say, Where is Jehovah who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, who led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of dry places, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man lived? ⁷ And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat its fruit and its goodness; but when you entered, you defiled My land and made My inheritance an abomination. ⁸ The priests did not say, Where is Jehovah? And they who handle the Law did not know Me; the shepherds also rebelled against Me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things not profitable. ⁹ Therefore I will contend with you, says Jehovah, and with your son's sons I will enter into judgment. ¹⁰ For pass over the coasts of Kittim, and see; and send to Kedar, and carefully consider, and see if there is such a thing. ¹¹ Has a nation changed their gods who are yet no gods? But My people have changed their Glory for that which does not profit. ¹² Be amazed, O heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid; be completely desolated, says Jehovah. ¹³ For My people have committed two evils; they have forsaken Me, the Fountain of living waters, to hew out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water. ¹⁴ Is Israel a servant? Or is he a servant of the house? Why has he become a prey? ¹⁵ The young lions roared against him; they gave their voice. And they made his land a waste; his cities are burned without inhabitant. ¹⁶ Also the sons of Noph and Tahapanes have fed on the crown of your head. ¹⁷ Have you not brought this on yourself, in that you have forsaken Jehovah your God, when He led you by the way? ¹⁸ And now what is for you toward the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? Or what for you toward Assyria, to drink the waters of the River? ¹⁹ Your own evil shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you, therefore know and see that it is an evil and bitter thing that you have forsaken Jehovah your God, and that My fear is not in you, says the Lord Jehovah of Hosts. ²⁰ For long ago you broke your yoke and tore up your bonds; and you said, I will not transgress, when on every high hill and under every green tree you lay down like a harlot. ²¹ Yet I planted you a noble vine, wholly a true seed. How then have you turned into the degenerate shoots of an alien vine to Me? ²² For though you wash yourself with potash, and multiply soap for yourself, yet your iniquity is marked before Me, says the Lord Jehovah. ²³ How can you say, I am not defiled; I have not gone after the Baals? See your way in the valley, know what you have done! You are a swift camel crossing its ways; ²⁴ a wild ass used to the wilderness; in the desire of her passion she snuffs at the wind; in her time who can turn her away? All those who seek her will not tire themselves; in her month they will find her. ²⁵ Withhold your foot from being bare, and your throat from thirst. But you said, There is no hope; no; for I have loved strangers, and after them I will go.

¹ Again the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ² Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations. ³ And say, So says the Lord Jehovah to Jerusalem, Your origin and your birth is of the land of Canaan. Your father was an Amorite, and your mother a Hittite. ⁴ And as for your birth, in the day you were born your navel was not cut, nor were you washed with water to cleanse you. And you were not salted, nor swaddled at all. ⁵ No eye pitied you, to do any of these to you, to have compassion on you. But you were thrown out into the open field, because your life was despised in the day that you were born. ⁶ And when I passed by you and saw you squirming in your blood, I said to you in your blood, Live! Yes, I said to you in your blood, Live! ⁷ I have caused you to multiply like the bud of the field, and you are grown, and you are great; and you come in the finest ornaments. Your breasts are formed, and hair is grown, yet you were naked and bare. ⁸ And I passed by you and looked on you, and, behold, your time was the time of love. And I spread my skirt over you and covered your nakedness. And I swore to you and entered into a covenant with you, says the Lord Jehovah. And you became Mine. ⁹ And I washed you with water; I washed away your blood from you, and I anointed you with oil. ¹⁰ I also clothed you with embroidered work, and I shod you with dugong sandals. And I wrapped you in fine linen, and I covered you with silk. ¹¹ And I adorned you with ornaments, and I put bracelets on your hands and a chain on your neck. ¹² And I put a ring on your nose, and earrings in your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head. ¹³ And you were adorned with gold and silver; and your clothing was of fine linen and silk and embroidered work. You ate fine flour and honey and oil; and you were exceedingly beautiful. And you advanced to regal estate. ¹⁴ And your name went out among the nations, because of your beauty; for it was perfect in My beauty, which I had put on you, says the Lord Jehovah. ¹⁵ But you trusted in your beauty, and played the harlot because of your name, and poured out your fornications on all who passed by; it was his. ¹⁶ And you took from your clothes and adorned your high places with different colors, and fornicated on them, such as had not come, nor shall be. ¹⁷ And you have taken beautiful things of My gold and of My silver, which I had given you, and made images of males, and fornicated with them. ¹⁸ And you took your embroidered dresses and covered them, and you have given to their face My oil and My incense. ¹⁹ Also My food which I gave you, fine flour and oil and honey with which I fed you, you have given it to their face for a soothing aroma. And it happened, says the Lord Jehovah. ²⁰ And you have taken your sons and your daughters, whom you have borne to Me, and you gave these to them for food. Are your fornications small? ²¹ You have slaughtered My sons and gave them to cause these to pass through the fire for them. ²² And in all your hateful deeds and your fornications you have not remembered the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare, and squirming in your blood. ²³ Woe, woe to you says the Lord Jehovah! For it happened after all your evil, ²⁴ that you have also built yourself a mound, and you have made yourself a high place in every street. ²⁵ You have built your high place at the head of every way, and have made your beauty to be despised, and have opened your feet to everyone who passed by, and have multiplied your fornications. ²⁶ You have also whored with the Egyptians, your neighbors great of flesh, and have multiplied your fornications to provoke Me to anger. ²⁷ And, behold, therefore I have stretched out My hand over you, and drew back your portion. And I gave you to the will of those who hate you, the daughters of the Philistines, who are ashamed of your wicked way. ²⁸ You have whored with the Assyrians, without your being satisfied; yea, you whored and yet you were not satisfied. ²⁹ And your whoredom is idolatry in the land of Canaan, to the Chaldean, and yet you were not satisfied with this. ³⁰ How weak is your heart, says the Lord Jehovah, since you do all these, the work of a woman, an overbearing harlot; ³¹ in that you build your mound at the head of every way, and make your high place in every street. Yet you have not been as a harlot, scorning wages. ³² Like the adulterous wife, instead of her husband, she takes strangers. ³³ They give a gift to all harlots, but you give your gifts to all your lovers, and bribe them to come to you from all around, for your fornication. ³⁴ And in you was the opposite from those women in your fornications, since no one whores after you, and in your giving wages, and hire is not given to you. In this you are opposite. ³⁵ Therefore, O harlot, hear the Word of Jehovah. ³⁶ So says the Lord Jehovah: Because your lewdness was poured out and your nakedness was bared in your fornications with your lovers, and with all the idols of your abominations, and by the blood of your sons whom you gave to them; ³⁷ behold, therefore I will gather all your lovers, with whom you have been pleased, even all whom you loved, with all whom you have hated; I will even gather them against you from all around, and will uncover your nakedness to them, and they will see all your nakedness. ³⁸ And I will judge you with judgments of adulteresses, and with shedders of blood. And I will give you blood and fury and jealousy. ³⁹ And I will also give you into their hand, and they will tear down your mound, and will demolish your high places. They shall also strip you of your clothes, and shall take your beautiful things, and leave you naked and bare. ⁴⁰ They shall also raise a company against you, and they shall stone you with stones, and cut you with their swords. ⁴¹ And they shall burn your houses with fire, and execute judgments on you in the sight of many women. And I will make you stop whoring; and also, you shall not give hire again. ⁴² And I will make My fury to rest against you, and My jealousy shall depart from you, and I will be quiet and will be angry no more. ⁴³ Because you have not remembered the days of your youth, but have troubled Me in all these things; so, behold, I will also repay your way on your head, says the Lord Jehovah. And you shall not commit this wickedness above all your abominations. ⁴⁴ Behold, all who use proverbs shall use this proverb against you, saying, As the mother, so is her daughter. ⁴⁵ You are your mother's daughter, who despises her husband and her sons. And you are the sister of your sisters, who despise their husbands and their sons. Your mother was a Hittite, and your father an Amorite. ⁴⁶ And your older sister is Samaria, she and her daughters who dwell at your left hand. And your younger sister, who dwells at your right hand, is Sodom and her daughters. ⁴⁷ Yet you have not walked according to their ways, nor done according to their hateful deeds; but, as if it were a very little thing, you were corrupted more than they were in all your ways. ⁴⁸ As I live, says the Lord Jehovah, Sodom your sister, she nor her daughters, has not done as you have done, you and your daughters. ⁴⁹ Behold, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom; pride. Fullness of bread and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters. Nor did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. ⁵⁰ And they were haughty and did abominable things before Me, so I turned away as I saw fit. ⁵¹ Nor has Samaria sinned as much as half your sins; but you have multiplied your abominations more than they, and have justified your sisters in all your abominations which you have done. ⁵² You also, who have judged your sisters, bear your own shame for your sins which you have committed more abominable than they. They are more righteous than you! Yes, blush and bear your shame, since you have justified your sisters. ⁵³ When I shall return their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, then also the captivity of your captivity in their midst; ⁵⁴ that you may bear your shame, and blush in all that you have done, since you are a comfort to them. ⁵⁵ When your sisters, Sodom and her daughters, shall return to their former state, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former state, then you and your daughters shall return to your former state. ⁵⁶ For your sister Sodom was not mentioned by your mouth in the day of your pride, ⁵⁷ before your wickedness was uncovered, as at the time of your reproach of the daughters of Syria, and of all her neighbors, the daughters of the Philistines who hated you from all around. ⁵⁸ You are bearing your wickedness and your abominations, says Jehovah. ⁵⁹ For so says the Lord Jehovah: I will even deal with you as you have done, who have despised the oath in breaking the covenant. ⁶⁰ But I will remember My covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish to you an everlasting covenant. ⁶¹ And you shall remember your ways and be ashamed, when you shall receive your sisters, your older and your younger. And I will give them to you for daughters, but not by your covenant. ⁶² And I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall know that I am Jehovah; ⁶³ so that you may remember and be ashamed; and it will not be possible to open your mouth any more because of your shame; in that I am propitiated for all that you have done, says the Lord Jehovah.

¹ And the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ² And you, son of man, will you judge, will you judge the bloody city? And you shall make her know all her abominations. ³ And you shall say, So says the Lord Jehovah: The city sheds blood in her midst that her time may come, and makes idols against herself to defile herself. ⁴ You are guilty in your blood that you have shed; and you have defiled yourself in your idols you have made. And your days are brought near, and have come to your years. Therefore I have made you a reproach to the nations, and a mocking to all lands. ⁵ Those who are near and those far from you shall mock against you, O defiled of name, abounding in tumult. ⁶ Behold, the rulers of Israel, each man by his might, have been in you in order to shed blood. ⁷ In you they have despised father and mother. In your midst they have dealt with the stranger by oppression. In you they oppressed the orphan and the widow. ⁸ You have despised My holy things, and have profaned My sabbaths. ⁹ In you are men of slander to shed blood; and in you they eat on the mountains; in your midst they do unchaste acts. ¹⁰ In you they have uncovered their fathers' nakedness; in you they have humbled her defiled by impurity. ¹¹ And a man has done abomination with his neighbor's wife; and a man has defiled his daughter-in-law in unchaste acts; and a man has humbled within you his sister, his father's daughter. ¹² In you they have taken bribes to shed blood. You have taken usury and increase, and you gained by extortion of your neighbors, and you have forgotten Me, says the Lord Jehovah. ¹³ And behold, I have struck My palm against your unjust gain which you have made, and at your blood which has been in your midst. ¹⁴ Can your heart stand, or can your hands be strong, in the day that I shall deal with you? I Jehovah have spoken, and I will act. ¹⁵ And I will scatter you among the nations and disperse you in the lands, and will destroy your uncleanness out of you. ¹⁶ And you will be profaned in you before the eyes of the nations, and you shall know that I am Jehovah. ¹⁷ And the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ¹⁸ Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to Me. All of them are bronze, and tin, and iron, and lead, in the middle of the furnace; they are even the dross of silver. ¹⁹ Therefore so says the Lord Jehovah: Because you have all become dross, behold, therefore I will gather you into the middle of Jerusalem. ²⁰ As they gather silver, and bronze, and iron, and lead, and tin, into the middle of the furnace, to blow the fire on it to melt it, so I will gather you in My anger and in My fury, and I will leave you there and melt you. ²¹ And I will gather you and blow on you in the fire of My wrath, and you shall be melted in the middle of it. ²² As silver is melted in the middle of the furnace, so you shall be melted in the middle of it; and you shall know that I Jehovah have poured out My fury on you. ²³ And the Word of Jehovah came to me, saying,

¹ When Ephraim spoke trembling, he was lifted up in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died.
