²⁷ My son, cease to hear the discipline, only to stray from the words of knowledge.

¹ If a prophet rises among you, or a dreamer of dreams, and gives you a sign or a wonder, ² and the sign or the wonder which he foretold to you occurs, saying, Let us go after other gods which you have not known, and let us serve them, ³ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For Jehovah your God is testing you to know whether you love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul. ⁴ You shall walk after Jehovah your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments, and obey His voice, and you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him.

²² And Jehovah said to him, With what? And he said, I will go forth and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And He said, You shall entice him and succeed also. Go forth and do so. ²³ And now, behold, Jehovah has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and Jehovah has spoken evil concerning you. ²⁴ But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way did the Spirit of Jehovah go from me to speak to you? ²⁵ And Micaiah said, Behold, you shall see in that day when you shall go into an inner room to hide yourself. ²⁶ And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king's son, ²⁷ and say, So says the king, Put this one in the prison and feed him with bread of affliction and the water of affliction, until I come in peace. ²⁸ And Micaiah said, If you return at all in peace, Jehovah has not spoken by me. And he said, Listen, O people, all of them!

¹⁵ Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

And many other such things you do. ⁹ And He said to them, Do you do well to set aside the commandment of God, so that you may keep your own tradition? ¹⁰ For Moses said, "Honor your father and your mother." And, "Whoever curses father or mother, let him die the death." ¹¹ But you say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, Corban! (that is, A gift to God, whatever you may profit by me) ¹² and you no longer allow him to do anything toward his father or mother, ¹³ making the Word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have delivered. And you do many such things. ¹⁴ And calling near all the crowd, He said to them, Listen to Me, every one of you, and understand.

⁵ And they will not follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.

¹³ For such ones are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ Did not even Satan marvelously transform himself into an angel of light? ¹⁵ Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves as ministers of righteousness, whose end shall be according to their works.

¹⁴ so that we no longer may be infants, tossed to and fro and carried about by every wind of doctrine, in the dishonesty of men, in cunning craftiness, to the wiles of deceit.

⁷ But refuse profane and old-womanish tales, and exercise yourself to godliness.

³ If anyone teaches otherwise, and does not consent to wholesome words (those of our Lord Jesus Christ), and to the doctrine according to godliness, ⁴ he is proud, knowing nothing. He is sick concerning doubts and arguments, from which comes envy, strife, evil speakings, evil suspicions, ⁵ meddling, of men whose minds have been corrupted and deprived of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness. Withdraw from such.

¹ But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who secretly will bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing on themselves swift destruction. ² And many will follow their pernicious ways, and because of them the way of truth will be evil spoken of.

¹ Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but try the spirits to see if they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

¹⁰ If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house, nor speak a greeting to him.

² I know your works and your labor and your patience, and how you cannot bear those who are evil. And you tried those pretending to be apostles, and are not, and have found them liars.
