¹ The burden of Egypt. Behold, Jehovah rides upon a swift cloud and comes to Egypt. And the idols of Egypt will tremble at his presence and the heart of Egypt will melt in the midst of it.

¹² For I will go through the land of Egypt in that night and will kill* all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments. I am Jehovah.

¹⁴ The peoples have heard, they tremble. Pangs have taken hold on the inhabitants of Philistia. ¹⁵ Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed, the mighty men of Moab. Trembling takes hold upon them. All the inhabitants of Canaan are melted away. ¹⁶ Terror and dread falls upon them. By the greatness of your arm they are as still as a stone, till your people pass over, O Jehovah, till the people pass over whom you have purchased.

²⁶ There is none like God, O Jeshurun, who rides upon the heavens for your help and in his excellency on the skies.

⁹ And she said to the men, I know that Jehovah has given you* the land and that the fear of you* has fallen upon us. And that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you*.

¹¹ And as soon as we had heard it, our hearts melted, neither did there remain any more spirit in any man because of you*, for Jehovah your* God, he is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.

²⁴ And they said to Joshua, Truly Jehovah has delivered into our hands all the land and moreover all the inhabitants of the land melt away before us.

² And the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it into the house of Dagon and set it by Dagon. ³ And when those of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of Jehovah. And they took Dagon and set him in his place again.
⁴ And when they arose early on the morning of the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of Jehovah and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands lay cut off upon the threshold. Only the stump of Dagon was left to him.

¹⁰ And he rode upon a cherub and flew. Yes, he soared upon the wings of the wind.
¹¹ He made darkness his hiding-place, his pavilion all around him, darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies.
¹² At the brightness before him his thick clouds passed, hailstones and coals of fire.

⁴ Sing to God, sing praises to his name. Lift up praise for him who rides through the deserts. His name is Jehovah and be rejoiced before him.

³³ to him who rides upon the heaven of heavens, which are of long-ago. Behold, he utters his voice, a mighty voice.
³⁴ Bestow strength to God. His excellency is over Israel and his strength is in the skies.

³ who lays the beams of his chambers in the waters, who makes the clouds his chariot, who walks upon the wings of the wind,

³⁴ Let your meditation be sweet to him. I will rejoice in Jehovah.

¹ The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw.

⁷ Therefore all hands will be feeble and every heart of man will melt.

¹⁶ In that day the Egyptians will be like women and they will tremble and fear because of the shaking of the hand of Jehovah of hosts, which he shakes over them.

⁹ and behold, here comes a troop of men, horsemen in pairs. And he answered and said, Fallen, fallen is Babylon. And all the graven images of her gods are broken to the ground.

¹ Bel bows down, Nebo stoops, their idols are upon the beasts and upon the cattle. The things that you* carried about are made a load, a burden to the weary beast. ² They stoop, they bow down together. They could not deliver the burden, but themselves are gone into captivity.

¹⁹ Pharaoh King of Egypt and his servants and his rulers and all his people,

⁸ Then the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying, ⁹ Take great stones in your hand and hide them in mortar in the brickwork, which is at the entry of Pharaoh's house in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the men of Judah, ¹⁰ and say to them, Jehovah of hosts says thus, the God of Israel: Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant and will set his throne upon these stones that I have hid and he will spread his royal pavilion over them.
¹¹ And he will come and will kill* the land of Egypt, such as are for death, to death and such as are for captivity, to captivity and such as are for the sword, to the sword.
¹² And I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt and he will burn them and carry them away captive. And he will array himself with the land of Egypt as a shepherd puts on his garment and he will go forth from there in peace. ¹³ He will also break the pillars of Beth-shemesh that is in the land of Egypt. And the houses of the gods of Egypt he will burn with fire.

²⁹ And this will be the sign to you*, says Jehovah, that I will punish you* in this place, that you* may know that my words will surely stand against you* for evil: ³⁰ Jehovah says thus: Behold, I will give Pharaoh Hophra King of Egypt into the hand of his enemies and into the hand of those who seek his life, as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, who was his enemy and sought his life.

¹ The word of Jehovah which came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the nations.
² Of Egypt, concerning the army of Pharaoh Neco, King of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon killed* in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah:
³ Prepare you* the buckler and shield and draw near to battle. ⁴ Harness the horses and get up, you* horsemen and stand forth with your* helmets. Furbish the spears. Put on the coats of mail. ⁵ Why have I seen it?
They are dismayed and have turned backward. And their mighty ones are beaten down and have fled in flight and do not look back. Terror is on every side, says Jehovah. ⁶ Do not let the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape. In the north by the river Euphrates they have stumbled and fallen.
⁷ Who is this that rises up like the Nile, whose waters toss themselves like the rivers? ⁸ Egypt rises up like the Nile and his waters toss themselves like the rivers. And he says, I will rise up. I will cover the earth. I will destroy cities and the inhabitants of it.
⁹ Go up, you* horses and rage, you* chariots. And let the mighty men go forth: Cush and Put, who handle the shield and the Ludim, who handle and bend the bow. ¹⁰ For that day is a day of the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his adversaries. And the sword will devour and be satiate and will drink its fill of their blood, for the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, has a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.
¹¹ Go up into Gilead and take balm, O virgin daughter of Egypt. In vain do you use many medicines; there is no healing for you. ¹² The nations have heard of your shame and the earth is full of your cry. For the mighty man has stumbled against the mighty; they are fallen, both of them together.
¹³ The word that Jehovah spoke to Jeremiah the prophet, how that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon should come and kill* the land of Egypt.
¹⁴ Declare in Egypt and proclaim in Migdol and proclaim in Memphis and in Tahpanhes. Say you*, Stand forth and prepare you, for the sword has devoured all around you. ¹⁵ Why are your strong ones swept away? They stood not, because Jehovah drove them.
¹⁶ He made many to stumble, yes, they fell one upon another. And they said, Arise and let us go again to our own people and to the land of our nativity, from the oppressing sword. ¹⁷ They cried there, Pharaoh King of Egypt is but a noise. He has let the appointed time pass by.
¹⁸ As I live, says the King, whose name is Jehovah of hosts, surely like Tabor among the mountains and like Carmel by the sea, so will he come.
¹⁹ O you daughter who dwells in Egypt, prepare yourself to go into captivity. For Memphis will become a desolation and will be burnt up, without inhabitant. ²⁰ Egypt is a very fair heifer, but destruction out of the north has come, it has come. ²¹ Also her hired men in the midst of her are like calves of the stall, for they also are turned back. They have fled away together. They did not stand, for the day of their calamity has come upon them, the time of their visitation. ²² Its sound will go like the serpent, for they will march with an army and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood.
²³ They will cut down her forest, says Jehovah, though it cannot be searched because they are more than the locusts and are innumerable. ²⁴ The daughter of Egypt will be put to shame. She will be delivered into the hand of the people of the north.
²⁵ Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, says, Behold, I will punish Amon of No and Pharaoh and Egypt, with their gods and their kings, even Pharaoh and those who trust in him. ²⁶ And I will deliver them into the hand of those who seek their lives and into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and into the hand of his servants. And afterwards it will be inhabited, as in the days of long-ago, says Jehovah.
²⁷ But do not fear, O Jacob my servant, nor be dismayed, O Israel. For behold, I will save you from afar and your seed from the land of their captivity. And Jacob will return and will be quiet and at ease and none will make him afraid.
²⁸ Do not fear, O Jacob my servant, says Jehovah, for I am with you. For I will make a full end of all the nations where I have driven you, but I will not make a full end of you. But I will discipline you in measure and will in no way leave you unpunished.

² Declare among the nations and proclaim and set up a standard, proclaim and conceal not. Say, Babylon is taken. Bel is put to shame. Merodach is dismayed. Her images are put to shame; her idols are dismayed.

⁴⁴ And I will execute judgment upon Bel in Babylon and I will bring forth out of his mouth what he has swallowed up. And the nations will not flow any more to him. Yes, the wall of Babylon will fall.

¹ In the tenth year, in the tenth month, in the twelfth day of the month, the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ² Son of man, set your face against Pharaoh King of Egypt and prophesy against him and against all Egypt. ³ Speak and say, The lord Jehovah says thus: Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh King of Egypt, the great monster that lies in the midst of his rivers, that has said, My river is my own and I have made it for myself.
⁴ And I will put hooks in your jaws and I will cause the fish of your rivers to stick to your scales and I will bring you up out of the midst of your rivers, with all the fish of your rivers which stick to your scales. ⁵ And I will cast you forth into the wilderness, you and all the fish of your rivers. You will fall upon the open field. You will not be brought together, nor gathered. I have given you for food to the beasts of the earth and to the birds of the heavens.
⁶ And all the inhabitants of Egypt will know that I am Jehovah, because they have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel. ⁷ When they took hold of you by your hand, you broke and tore all their shoulders. And when they leaned upon you, you broke and made all their loins to be at a stand still.
⁸ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: Behold, I will bring a sword upon you and will cut off from you man and beast. ⁹ And the land of Egypt will be a desolation and a waste.
And they will know that I am Jehovah.
Because he has said, The river is mine and I have made it, ¹⁰ therefore, behold, I am against you and against your rivers. And I will make the land of Egypt an utter waste and desolation, from the Migdol to Syene, even to the border of Ethiopia. ¹¹ No foot of man will pass through it, nor foot of beast will pass through it. Neither will it be inhabited forty years.
¹² And I will make the land of Egypt a desolation in the midst of the countries that are desolate. And her cities among the cities that are laid waste will be a desolation forty years. And I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and will disperse them through the countries.
¹³ For thus says the lord Jehovah: At the end of forty years I will gather the Egyptians from the peoples where they were scattered, ¹⁴ and I will bring back the captivity of Egypt and will cause them to return into the land of Pathros, into the land of their birth.
And they will be a base kingdom there. ¹⁵ It will be the lowest of the kingdoms, nor will it lift itself up any more above the nations. And I will diminish them, that they will no more rule over the nations. ¹⁶ And it will be no more the confidence of the house of Israel, bringing iniquity to remembrance, when they turn to look after them.
And they will know that I am the lord Jehovah.
¹⁷ And it happened in the twenty-seventh year, in the first month, in the first day of the month, the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ¹⁸ Son of man, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon caused his army to serve a great service against Tyre. Every head was made bald and every shoulder was worn, yet he had no wages, nor his army, from Tyre, for the service that he had served against it.
¹⁹ Therefore thus says the lord Jehovah: Behold, I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and he will carry off her multitude and take her spoil and take her prey. And it will be the wages for his army. ²⁰ I have given him the land of Egypt as his recompense for which he served, because they worked for me, says the lord Jehovah
²¹ In that day I will cause a horn to bud forth to the house of Israel and I will give you the opening of the mouth in the midst of them. And they will know that I am Jehovah.

¹³ The lord Jehovah says thus: I will also destroy the idols and I will cause the images to cease from Memphis. And there will no more be a ruler from the land of Egypt. And I will put a fear in the land of Egypt.

¹⁹ Egypt will be a desolation and Edom will be a desolate wilderness, for the violence done to the sons of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land.

¹¹ And he will pass through the sea of affliction and will kill* the waves in the sea and all the depths of the Nile will dry up. And the pride of Assyria will be brought down and the scepter of Egypt will depart.

¹⁸ And if the family of Egypt does not go up and does not come, that there will be the plague with which Jehovah will kill* the nations that do not go up to keep the feast of tabernacles.

⁶⁴ Jesus said to him, You have said so. However I am saying to you, From now on, you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming upon the clouds of heaven.
⁶⁵ Then the high-priest ripped his garments, saying, He has blasphemed. Why do we still have need of witnesses? Behold, now you have heard his blasphemy.

⁷ Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will be seeing him and those who stabbed him, and all the tribes of the earth will be grieving over him. Yes he comes, Amen.
